Okay, so:

,Magician's Nephew x LOTR crossover

It's so easy to make this work.

Jill and Diggory have magic rings that transport them to the wood between worlds. In theory, the wood contains portals to every world that has ever existed, or ever will exist, right?

So the events of the magician's nephew happen. They wake Jadis, get chased by her all the way back to the wood, and then they run for the nearest pool. And rather than it being home they run for the one that happens to be Middle Earth.

Jadis still grabs onto Digg's ankle.

(Debating on whether or not to include uncle andrew. It does involve them having to go back to England in between their trip to the dying world, and then for some reason back to the wood. Maybe the whole lampost situation happens still idk. I do just love the idea of Jadis and Uncle Andrew traipsing through Middle Earth).

I have not fully decided which age to put them in but there IS something immensely funny about Diggory and Jill wandering around Middle Earth with some magic rings.

And also for some reason Diggory and Jill end up with one ring color, and Jadis (and also potentially Uncle Andrew) wind up with the other ring color, and/or there just aren't enough rings and somebody ends up with all the green ones).

They wind up separated and traipsing around looking for each other and/or trying to separate Uncle Andrew and Jadis. I think it's best if maybe Uncle Andrew and Jadis have the green rings, but aren't willing to leave without also having the yellow ones.

Jill and Diggs wind up in Rivendell (obviously I MUST include Elrond) and give everyone a heart attack because they have a funny little yellow ring that absolutely rubs Vilya the wrong way and doesn't match any Music in middle earth. Meanwhile apparently according to them there are Some Very Dangerous People wandering around with another set of weird magic rings.

I want Jadis to decide that she absolutely wants to be queen of Middle Earth and to try very hard to launch a campaign for it.

Also want Jadis to find out that there are other magical objects and to try and collect them all like Pokemon, and to be a royal pain in EVERYONE'S (including Sauron's) ass.

Anyway that's it that's the idea.

MGME But It's Just My OCs From My Hisfic Novel

okay to make this make sense you gotta understand that within the actual history post the book I wrote, two of the main characters get killed.

(the book is set during the very last year of the nine years' war in Ireland, where Hugh O'Neill, High King of Ireland and Chieftain of Ulster fought against the colonizing English army. He had convinced Spain to help him (Catholics vs Protestants), but the Spanish pulled out and Baron Mountjoy (British occupation) essential starved the Irish out by burning all their crops, and eventually Hugh signed a treaty after one final stand in Ulster. Baron Mountjoy smashed the stone of kings, where all the High Kings of Ireland had been crowned for thousands of years, and formally began the occupation, moving British colonizers in to take over the farmland in Ulster and press the Irish into serfdom.

ANYWAY. So that's the background. Later Hugh and his ally Rory O'Donnell go to Spain to try and muster up some more help, but they wind up actually getting sick and dying during the trip.

So my OCs are Hugh's wife and daughter. (Hugh was, historically, a terrible husband and I am an absolute slut for messy toxic dynamics). The OC winds up with Rory in the end bc he was historically a Really Cool Guy.

So naturally, instead of them dying later I'm like 'haha what if they just got transported to Middle Earth'.

I have not thought this through very hard but I would obviously like the Classic 'they wind up in Rivendell' because again, Elrond, obviously obviously.

Mostly SOL but I could also see Rory and Hugh going "oh, there's another colonizer who wants to destroy the free people of THIS land??? Fuck him. We're absolutely joining that fight."

I could see this being set in the second age actually during the first founding of Rivendell (and so Rory and Hugh and up in TLA) but I could also see them at Pelennor in the TA, but unfortunately that means that my OC mom doesn't get to meet Cel :( And I want them to be friends. They would get along so well.

Elrond, of course, parents both OCs (even though one of them is a grown ass mom) because I want him to. Also he hisses at Hugh. Because he's trash.

Alternatively they could wind up sometime in the early third age and join the war against Angmar and then we still get Cel. I'm not picky.

This one is more vague and I mostly daydream about SOL situations of my OCs in Rivendell but there's definitely A Plot in there somewhere.

I *need* to know more about Apocalypse Fishbowl Rescue. 👀👀👀👀

Thank you for the ask! This is another one that's still in the brainstorming stage, so it's kind of just a vague idea right now.

It would involve John Dee doing his thing with the ruby and more or less taking over the world before Dream gets out of the fishbowl. So it's anarchy and chaos--everything we saw in "24/7" but on a global scale. This goes on for a few years before the story starts, so at the beginning of the fic the world has been in this post-apocalyptic state for a while.

In the midst of all this, Hob is more worried than ever about what might happen if people find out he's immortal. So he gets out of the city and looks for a place to hole up until this all (hopefully) blows over.

He finds the perfect place to hide out: an old manor in the country called Fawney Rig. It's clearly been abandoned for years, and there are rumors about it being haunted or otherwise dangerous, so nobody will bother him there. The place has been ransacked, there are some corpses here and there, and the door to the basement has been sealed and barricaded.

Hob stays there for months before he manages to get into the basement. And I'm sure you can guess what he finds there...

#10. What's an au you have for them?

Since them meeting at all is technically an AU i have 3 different ways that they do meet up. There's the one where Juniper ends up with the agency/adjacent to and ends up working with Reggie (have written a fic with this). The next one is Juniper surviving but basically going stealth and living as normal of a life as he can and ending up meeting Reggie through chance (most recent fic I've written). And then there's my personal favourite where Reginald "You're lucky my tracking skills are still up to snuff" Crane keeping himself busy after Phoenix was MIA and finding Juniper still alive (fic I want to write but haven't started mainly because it may end up multi chapter).

In terms of more AU canon bending taking them and putting them in a completely unrelated situation...I have a guilty pleasure Warrior Cats AU for IEYTD in general. Both JJ and Reggie have perfect warrior cats suffixes in their names already (Juniper and Crane) so they're called Junipersong (charcoal bengal) and Craneflight (tabby Norwegian forest cat). It's very silly but the amount of scenes I have in my mind for it...good lord...

Augh my friend Imp wrote an absolutely excellent fic about it (tragically in the realm of unfinished Google docs) and I'm shaking their hand about it so hard. Basically Juniper kissing Reggie but he like wasn't ready/fully expecting it and Juniper absolutely panicking because he thinks he's misread every interaction between them both since they got closer. The second one is much sweeter though,,

if only i'd ever written a single word of that Frankenstein AU idea...alas! i spent so long mulling this over, i don't really write horror and even like, suspense is rare for me and i think i've shared all the best examples of it.

so here is a more recent wip that i hope is written suspensefully!! to set the scene: a ghost ship has just been detected on the edge of Preservation space. It's drifting under no engine power and not responding to comm contacts. Murderbot goes with the station responder to check it out, and when they get close they pick up a short range "assistance needed" signal. Here's two snips, since they're short:

“So they were desperate.” “Yes.” “Why couldn’t we pick up the signal until we got this close? It’s not very good as a distress beacon.” I had also wondered about that, and I had an answer from my analysis of the signal. “It isn’t coming from a bot pilot. It matches the signal strength of a planetary rescue marker. We had similar ones on surveys. It’s meant for a hopper flying over an area to be able to locate a single lost human, not a ship in the middle of space.” “So the bot pilot is probably down, or it would be broadcasting a stronger signal.” “Probably. Or it’s playing dead.” “What’s your assessment?” “We can’t rule out that it’s a corporate decoy.” Indah made an I know, you’ve said that already face, but I wasn’t done. “We shouldn’t stop treating it as a potential threat, but I don’t think that’s the most likely scenario. I think a system failed, some panicked human managed to set off an emergency beacon, and then the ship lost power completely.” “So you think when we board it—“ “We’re going to find a lot of dead humans.”

The size and layout of the room was familiar. Just big enough for Indah and I to both squeeze in without her getting too close to me, but not much bigger. A cabinet in the corner that was tall enough to hold a set of armor. A locked crate to hold weapons and other security equipment. And in the corner— Indah took a step towards the chest-height white cube, looking puzzled. I said, “That’s a cubicle.” She froze. “For?” “For SecUnits.” Indah cursed under her breath. “Is there one inside?” “It’s shielded to scans.” I moved towards the cubicle, and she got out of my way. I had an unpleasant guess about what was still drawing power even before I put my hand on the casing. There was a faint buzz. It was running. I grabbed the handle and pulled the door open. There was a SecUnit inside. My threat assessment spiked, even though I had anticipated a high probability that the cubicle was occupied. The SecUnit had its eyes closed, and it didn’t move when I opened the door. I watched it for a few seconds, and then said, “It’s in stasis.” Indah had one hand on her baton, like that was going to do anything against a SecUnit. “What does that mean?” “It’s like sleeping. Or…cryo pods, like on the generation ships…?” I wondered if those actually worked the way they did in the dramatization of Preservation’s founding that I’d watched with my humans once. “It’s partly offline. It will only wake up if a system tells it to.” It still hadn’t reacted to me opening the door. The cubicle didn’t seem to be kicking it into a restart. “It probably disabled the automatic restart and sealed itself in here. It was trying to escape the contamination.” “Clever,” Indah muttered.

so. they are in love in the sense that nintendo is queerbaiting me. queerbaiting me with a "straight" couple (they are lesbians). they are not canon they kissed only in the second ever zelda game when there was only the barest story and they were nothing more than pixel sprites and they have not been canon since. and because every game is technically a different link and a different zelda, each individual game varies on how shippable they actually are? like, I'm not very far through twilight princess yet but I've heard they're pretty much just coworkers in that one. the three latest mainline games though, they're like. they're pretty much canon in all but name like you could say it's platonic but like at that point you are running on loads of denial. the three latest mainline games are skyward sword, which is the first link and zelda, the start of the cycle. the plot ENTIRELY revolves around how much link loves zelda. cause they're best friends, hyrule as a kingdom doesn't even exist yet (they live on an island in the sky) she falls to earth and is running around having to discover that she's a reincarnated goddess (that's a whole angst factor btw bc the goddess (hylia) had to fight demise and she won but knew it was temporary and knew demise would have to be defeated again, and that he would need to be defeated with the power of the triforce, which can only be wielded by humans, so she decided basically that she'd need a loyal human knight, and so she reincarnated into a human girl because a girl is loved in the way a goddess isn't and she knew someone would love a human girl enough to save her WHICH HAPPENS so basically zelda gets to have an identity crisis was she just dragging link towards this destiny the whole time? did she truly love him? did he truly love her? are they puppets in this grand plan? "I'm still your zelda" she says to him, but is she??? drives me nuts) and he, ever loyal, keeps running after her to save her again and again and again (link is so dog coded there's a great botw fic about this), and then they defeat demise and he curses them and link is just some guy who went through ALL THIS SHIT cause he LOVED zelda. what if you were in love with your best friend and it cursed you and your descendants for the rest of time this is so francesca by hozier I'd tell them put me back in it I'd go through it again if i could hold you for a minute. and then the next two mainline games are breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom and breath of the wild involves an amnesia plot so you basically watch link fall in love with zelda a second time and then in tears of the kingdom they are. common law married. they share a house. there's only one bed. do NOT get me FUCKING STARTED on the hateno house. and nintendo still plays FUCKING COY zelda's english va has to be like "they... have a really close bond...." this is how I know they're queer you wouldn't do this with straight people. and then people also ship ocarina of time (most popular and well known game of the series most praised for its story) zelink a lot but that's an older game I haven't played yet so I can't speak on them. zelda is so transmasc in that one though this I know. I’m now wildly theorizing on Occupational Hazard, and I don’t think you can go wrong with that. Can I get a rundown?

Absolutely! Occupation Hazards is a working title but so far it’s what I’m sticking with…

Basically it’s a No Voldemort AU, where Remus never goes to Hogwarts because he’s a werewolf and Sirius is sorted into Slytherin so he never befriends James. He’s grown out of his prejudice but is still controlled by his family.

The whole premise is that after graduating Hogwarts, Walburga and Orion want to force Sirius into some volunteering to stamp out any rebellion he has in him. The volunteering happens to be a dragon sanctuary in Scotland and guess who works there :)))

The whole thing is kinda inspired by How to train your dragon because Sirius ends up training a dragon that no one else can train in secret (meanwhile everyone thinks he’s a liability - this makes the wolfstar kinda enemies to lovers, just because Remus doesn’t trust Sirius at first)

So yeah… I haven’t really written much for it, I’ve just outlined the whole thing and it’ll probably be a while before I start to write it. But it’s definitely a fic I intend to get round to eventually!

So before we answer this - we haven't introduced Diplomat yet, we don't think! Diplomat is an Undertaker - a member of a unique strain of slime mold/cordyceps native to Celia's colony, a caste of their own right tasked with caring for the dead and those near to death.

Semi-domesticated, the strain are kept both due to their place in the colony and due to their ability to devour other strains of cordyceps, protecting the kingdom from a true undead plague - their strain can only infect ants, and though caution needs to be taken between them and the ant colony proper, this means that they have the capacity to handle a great deal of otherwise-incurable

As the Diplomat, it is Diplomat's duty to keep in contact with the living members of the colony, and keep things running smoothly between the cordyceps colony and everything else - as the ants of Celia's kingdom cannot interact directly with the cordyceps on a regular basis for fear of infection, having a single representative with garb to reduce risk of infection as much as possible keeps things running smoothly, both within the kingdom itself and in the case that another kingdom may require their caste's experience.

So, despite the name, Diplomat actually rarely leaves their home colony. They are still infectious, after all, and the garb that they bring to diplomatic meetings reduces risk of transmission rather than eliminating it entirely. Still, with their unique biology and abilities, they're occasionally called out to handle things such as outbreaks in other kingdoms - generally with a group of other undertakers.

The longest journey they've ever taken would have been on one of such missions - to a semi-isolated kingdom*, lead by a diaspora of beetles. They were called upon to help ridding the land of a plague, an infection of fungus threatening to boil over and kill all too many people. The travel was frantic, a time limit they couldn't see ticking down with every step - a good thing, perhaps, that they and their kin do not require sleep, but even without taking rest, they arrived too late.

Whether or not it was successful... would depend on who you asked. Though the kingdom would survive, and they would make a difference in turning the tides and preventing the outbreak from infecting too many, the impact of the initial outbreak meant that many they could otherwise help were all too paranoid to accept assistance from another form of that which had destroyed them, much less something wearing an ant's shell with fungus dripping out its eyes. They saved lives, but the old order of the kingdom was destroyed, and things would be in disarray for years afterwards. They would eventually be pulled back, but the travel and experiences associated would stick out in their mind long afterwards - travelling miles to get somewhere tends to stick to you, even if you accomplish less than you might otherwise have wished.

*The term "kingdom" is used loosely here - though it lacked a ruler, as with social bugs, habitable and non-deadlands patches of land are commonly referred to as "kingdoms" in shorthand when travelling. For example, if you were travelling from somewhere to Bugaria, you'd be going to "the kingdom of Bugaria", regardless of how many actual kingdoms are present in that area.

this is my placeholder title for the ghost au people have probably heard me talk about at this point. essentially the plot is sam buys a house for wildly cheap in the DC area and he finds out the reason why is bc it’s haunted by a ghost. said ghost is bucky barnes, and they have a very antagonistic relationship at first, as bucky does NOT like that someone has moved into his home. enemies to lovers, i’m still figuring out all of this plot, but i’ve generally got the ending figured out which is usually what i struggle with (and i’ve written a few scenes here and there!)

excerpt:

The real estate lady puts on the world’s fakest smile, a key asset to her profession, and shakes her head. “They’re all just rumors, Sam. Nothing to listen to.”

He crosses his arms. “What rumors?”

“Real estate superstition is all,” she says, fiddling with the ends of her hair. “People kept saying they couldn’t sell the house because there was a ghost.”

Sam bursts out laughing. It’s not that he doesn’t believe in ghosts; stories floated around constantly at home, and he’d be lying if he thought he hadn’t met one once. 

It’s more that no goddamn ghost is keeping him from the deal of a lifetime. 

“I’ll make sure I thank him for the cheap house then.”

If there is a ghost living in one of my bedrooms, he thinks, he better start paying fucking rent.

8. If you had to write an entire story without either action or dialogue, which would you choose and how would it go?

Honestly? I would like to do both. Without action I feel like it could easily be solved by writing it drama-style, which is... pretty close to how I write most of the dialogue scenes - I like to write out the dialogue first and then fill in the dialogues tags, since it's easier for me and I feel like it makes the dialogue flow better/more naturally (is it possible to write naturally sounding dialogue in a second language? Idk, but I can try, at least). Writing something drama/script style would be fun for me, even though I think less so for the readers.

I do have some fics written entirely without the dialogue, though those tends to be a lot more introspective. For longer forms, I feel like experimenting with reported speech and internal monologues of point of view characters recalling what has been said would be fun. Although, as with the above case, I don't think it's something I would necessarily do with fanfic, since I suspect it could be jarring for the readers. But, I mean - The Gates of Paradise does leave in my head rent free. I like weird forms.

I don't think I have any particularly weird habits. Except for the above-mentioned habit of writing out dialogue first, which I don't think is particularly weird, I don't think I do anything that would be jarring? Or maybe just no one told me yet 😂

In terms of writing rituals, I do tend to be very particular about the music in the background. I write best with instrumental music, and songs in languages I can understand distract me a lot (and yes, that includes Chinese now, even though I can get maybe like 10-30% just be listening). I do make a lot of playlist for fics I am writing. For example, the majority of Memories of Dixing was written with this playlist. I feel like at this point I wired my brain with associating those melodies with writing, it works GREAT.
