Backgrounds

I have recently changed my tune about backgrounds. If you would like a background, let me know and i will tell you if i think im up to it. Complex backgrounds are a fee of +%50 as they take a lot of time. If you have multiple characters, the background price is calculated AFTER the price of the additional characters. It is up to me to decide what a complex background is.

Simple/abstract backgrounds remain free of charge. If i think a work would benefit from it, i will put a solid or swirly colored shape behind it and send you a version with and without the background so you can decide which you like better. You may request a basic background on your own.

TOS:

I retain the right to post your completed piece to any of my social medias to use as an example of my work and a testament to my reliability. I will credit you when I do.

All payments are non-refundable unless for some reason i am unable to finish your piece, or we get part way through the process and i feel that i am unable to do your character(s) justice.

You MAY:

Post your completed piece wherever you please WITH appropriate credit by either linking my page or simply stating my name and platform.

edit my art in regards to cropping for profile pictures, adding an overlay to fit a theme, and resizing to fit a platform better

You may NOT:

feed my hard work to ai

use it for anything NFT related

claim it as your own

remove my watermarks

use it commercially

What is the process?

It's pretty simple! Send me a dm with a photo of your character(s) and tell me what you'd like. Let me know if you need a few days to get the money, or if there's a time constraint (like if the piece is a birthday or holiday gift). If you don't have an idea for a pose, please include a brief description of their personality. If there's characters interacting, let me know their relationship to one another and their dynamic.

I will respond with a price and if you're ok with proceeding I will mock up a vague sketch so you can get an idea of what it would look like. This will be watermarked and it will not even be very recognizable as your character. That's because I have been scammed and ghosted in the past, even with a very rough and watermarked sketch.

After that you will send 100% of the payment in order for me to proceed. Please note that PayPal takes a cut of the money in taxes when you send it as a buisness purchase. Be kind and send a little extra so that i actually receive full payment for the commission.

I work on a first come first serve basis, but i may work on a piece while waiting for approval on another. I will let you know if there is someone ahead of you. Once payment is received i will message you frequently with updates and for approval. Once lineart is finalized, i will update less often in order to creater a better final reveal. Your final piece will already be glazed to fight against ai stealing my style.

Depending on my life circumstances, this whole process could take from 1-3 days up to a month. The later is very unlikely, and i will message you with updates if i feel i am taking too long.

I like eating about once a day (twice is a bonus). I also really enjoy paying my health insurance and rent.  Therefore I decided to open commissions. I’m HOPING some of you might be interested. Here are some notes: I WILL DRAW: *Fanart *Original characters *NSFW (ask me, there are things I won’t do) *Violence and gore *Designs of your characters (DnD or otherwise. I can work without any references based on your description and close communication) *Portraits  *Concept art (A selected described scene) with backgrounds *Art Nouveau I WILL NOT DRAW: *Complicated machinery *Backgrounds (except concept art pieces) more complicated than props or what is absolutely necessary *Politically sensitive content PAYMENT: Strictly through Paypal or Ko-Fi. Never send me any payment PRIOR agreement. Payment is bounding for both sides and would be delivered in full after you receive a fitting sketch for your commission (complexity varies based on content) - I cannot cancel after this point, you cannot receive a refund.

PROCESS: I require at least minimal communication through the process. After we initially establish the deal, I will make a rough sketch (complexity will vary based on the subject. an art nouveau sketch will be more detailed than sketch of a sketch) which we will adjust to your satisfaction. Once satisfied, you would send the payment. After receiving it, I will move over to the next step. I’m willing to adjust/fix/change practically anything at any point. I prefer close communication through Discord or email.  Your work can be done anonymously or privately (meaning I will never post it anywhere), a fee applies to the latter (this fee is adequate to the type of work you chose).

You have the right to use and repost your commission anywhere as long as you don’t claim any authorship, in better case include credit to me. You will receive the work in printable quality and size.

I’m flexible as per topics. If you aren’t sure if I would or wouldn’t draw your concept, please ask. It is likely we can either come to a compromise or that I will cave in. 

My commissions are priced based on the minimal hourly wage in my area.

- Depends on the order, in general I reserve a week for most orders and in a lot of cases I finish well within that week time limit. "I want something that's not listed, can I still ask you for it?"

- Of course! Though please keep in mind that if I don't list it, it might be because I don't feel confident drawing such things like highly complex backgrounds of cityscapes or interior design. But if you're just asking for a monster character I've never drawn before or if you want just a headshot/bust instead of a waist up then yeah! I'm open to discuss it.

I went to the Leeds Queer Market!

Some purchases I made and some new creators to follow. 

I went along to the Leeds Playhouse this afternoon before we went to see Barbie later on, and I was super pleased to go along — they were up on one of the floors in the Playhouse where the kitchen is, with various tables set up selling arts and crafts, jewellery, prints, cacti, and so on.

The market is run by Quercus Craft, I think every month or so? And I just wanted to show off some of the things I picked up and link to the creators’ stores and social media!

Firstly, I picked up this gorgeous print from Matt David (they/them), who is a queer Scottish artist based out of London — a lot of their work grapples with queerness and sexuality, including safe sex and HIV awareness, but also layers of symbolism, how symbols are created and communicated, and there’s this big thematic trend of exploring the symbology around queer bodies, the ways in which they’re objectified through fellow queer gazes, to incredible effect. 

I love this piece so much — Matt David has several pieces like this one where they create these layered cyanotype portraits whilst also scanning the condoms through, and because of the material of the condoms and the lubricant on them, they have this incredible shine effect on them. I adore this piece, Hey Daddy, because of the halo-like shimmer of the condom’s ring over the figure’s head, and I’m so, so excited to put this in a gold frame and hang it up in my new place once I’m moved in. 

As well as these figures using condoms, they also have some beautiful colour portraiture featuring different queer heroes — I especially love this piece of Marsha P. Johnson — and do other forms of portraiture and sketches!

I picked up a few pieces of jewellery from Abigaia (she/her), a (n English) northerner and queer witch who plays a lot with themes of nature and spirituality in her work — she’s got a big focus on using sustainable materials in her craftwork as well as in its packaging, which is so awesome to see, the values of the work itself extended to its packaging materials. 

I was super excited about the variety of charms and pendants she had on show — I picked up a snake, a rainbow mushroom, and a serotonin symbol, but she had so many to choose from. On her website, you can buy a mystery charm for £4, or ask for a specific charm in the notes — she’s got a huge variety of nature-based and spiritual symbols, including different animals, traditional websites, flora and mushrooms, a few chemical structures, and different pagan religious symbols.

If you love tarot, she’s also got some gorgeous earring sets featuring different tarot cards!

From Nad (she/they), I only picked up a pair of pronoun stickers for my partners, but you should absolutely check out the broad array of their work!

Nadya Griendroheru is an Indonesian artist and illustrator who just creates some absolutely gorgeous examples of character design — they have a really awesome flow and use of colour in their work with exaggerated angles and features, bright yellows, oranges, reds, greens, with a real sense of movement and personality conveyed in each print and piece. 

She had a bunch of different Breaking Bad characters with pronouns printed on them (except for the one of Hank, which says ACAB), just like this one, and I just thought they were hilarious.

PRALER is the Planet Repairs Action Learning Educational Revolution, which is a big initiative building and promoting resistance and organisational networks, especially to further empower communities and organisations in the Global South and to address and take apart miseducation elsewhere, especially in regards to dismantling white supremacist and imperialist systems and propaganda.

Melany was selling incense they make themselves, and also bags from Mochilas para sanar, a platform for selling mochilas by indigenous Colombian creators, Mama Zenchina and Haba Ulaca, with 80% of proceeds going to the creators and 20% going to Somos Semillas, an organisation dedicated to educating about and collating resources for the Abya Yala diaspora. 

The bags are handwoven from cactus fibres and you can see them on the Mochilas para sanar Instagram!

They’re also going to be at the Queer Carboot on Sheaf Street tomorrow (30 July 2023), so if you’re based in Leeds and you’re upset you missed the Queer Market, absolutely go along and seek them out!

I don’t think that they have any of their earrings available for sale on their online store at the moment, but if you do see them selling in person anywhere, they do a variety of earrings like this one, as well as geckos and lizards, frogs, candies and sweets, and they’re very cute! They also had on the stall a range of badges and stickers, little ornaments, and so on. 

Build Your Jungle UK produce a lot of resources and guides to cultivating and looking after tropical plants at home, as well as creating some utterly gorgeous prints and stickers showing different varieties of plants and foliage, and also frogs!

The creators, Sofi (they/them) and Han (they/he) both have backgrounds in graphic design, so they collaborate on making these gorgeous illustrative posters and stickers of different plants you might cultivate in the home, and the pieces are just so vibrant and alive in their use of popping colour and really clean linework that makes every piece seem to pop right off the page.

One Piece chapter 1100 review

We know that aside from 100 and 1000, Oda's never really written around milestones, but you still generally find something that feels like a big step on each hundred chapters. While we have a pretty damn good chapter of One Piece this week, I don't think there's anything that really qualifies it as a giant leap forward for the story. Maybe all the classic Warlord cameos are meant to feel like the reward for the big eleven-hundred. Maybe, given that the celebratory colour spread is slated for next issue, the big moment missed by one. Or maybe that's just because of how Jump's scheduling panned out and I'm overthinking the whole thing.

There's an irony in Borsalino, in the opening pages, contrasting the climates of Egghead and Punk Hazard. He thinks Egghead's so much colder, but give it a few years and Punk Hazard will be half frozen over and Egghead will be fully climate controlled.

There's a lot of characterisation on show in this first scene. Vegapunk is painfully naive in failing to check for bugs in his lab, and this still won't teach him not to trust the Government. Borsalino has a laid-back and personable demeanour at a glance, but he'll do his job if he has to. And Kuma. Poor, well-meaning Kuma, loses all sense of perspective where his daughter is concerned. I don't think he heard a single word that wasn't about Bonney, even as Saturn offers him basically the worst terms ever. There's a comparison to be made in Kuma's reaction throughout the scene to Hancock asking Luffy to choose between freeing his friends and getting a boat. That same misdirect on what the initial reaction means and the laser focus on the people who need saving at the expense of all else. Except Luffy's version played out in his favour whereas Kuma… well, we're in a One Piece flashback, so you do the math.

Saturn's character is also front and center here. It's that he's a bastard, all pragmatic and cruel.

I really enjoyed the montage of treatments, slice of life scenes and construction work to show the passage of time here. There's some nice fanservice in seeing the (probable) moment the Vegaclones were conceived, and Vegapunk leveraging more underworld connections that would have to go back to his MADS days, this time with Storage King Umit. It's cool that all the underworld figures from Big Mom's party keep sticking their heads up to connect corners of the world.

There's some wonderfully nostalgic fanservice seeing all the classic Warlords and a few others reacting Kuma being commissioned into their number. Curious that Doflamingo, proclaimed "champion of evil" sees another miscreant in Kuma, buying into the hype completely. Having been involved in World Government info tampering personally, and setting records straight with his crew on the fall of Flevance, you'd think he'd at least acknowledge the possibility of spin on Kuma's story. I wonder if the apparent interest in another outright bad guy in the crew ever lead Doflamingo to reach out to Kuma. It might explain them turning up to the meeting together back when they were both first introduced.

An Ace appearance is always welcome. We knew he was offered a Warlord spot, but I think it's new info that he toppled one before that. This is a little bit of a lesson in taking spin-off material as fully canon, because like, you'd think that event would warrant at least a mention in Ace's novel or its manga adaptation. You know if they'd waited a few years and done those today the authors would be asking Oda for an original design for the beaten Warlord and making the encounter into at least a small scene if not the whole story, and its absence makes those volumes feel all the more secondary in retrospect.

Jinbe noting the growing political power of the Warlords is also a touch I like. We've known about powerful figures abusing the Warlord system for their own schemes almost as long as we've had One Piece, but I get the sense that the first generation legitimately acted as privateers and over time more and more people with things to hide have forced their way in. The group becomes both more dangerous and harder to control.

It is adorable that Kuma uses Bonney's drawing as his jolly roger. No notes, just a great touch. You can really see how thin his commitment to being a marauder is. Also, is that a bear ear on the side of his ship? Maybe we all figured as far back as Sabaody there would be more layers to Kuma, but I doubt anyone expected him to do something that cute, especially with his imposing first impression.

There is a strange current of speculation online that Kuma has been sent to Windmill Village to deal with Luffy or something similar in the last page. Are we not paying enough attention to see that Kuma is already there when the orders come in. Whatever the Government wants (if the orders matter to the story and aren't an excuse for him to namedrop his location) it doesn't seem to have anything to do with our protagonist. But maybe I shouldn't get too high and mighty - getting orders relating to something on the island he just happens to be stopping at for a resupply or whatever is definitely not too much of a coincidence for Oda, so we'll see next week what the deal with all of this is.

Next week, no matter what, we're somewhere in vol 109, and I think we have to start building up to the climax of this flashback. Right now, it feels like there's something missing for the ending, a factor we don't know about yet. Kuma losing his will wasn't a shocking betrayal, it was a deal he walked into willingly. In fact, it feels like we prettymuch know it all - he spends some time as a Warlord, is made fully into a weapon at the time the Pacifistas are first deployed. Maybe he's able to leverage that final request to defend the Sunny because Bonney had already escaped and the Government was wary of him running off with all that tech and became more pliable to his requests (or Vegapunk liked him enough to go behind his bosses' backs). Mission complete, he's made a slave until the Revolutionaries grab him and run, and we're basically up to the present. It would be anticlimactic to just play all that out in fast forward, so I think Oda's going to work some kind of a stinger in there. Probably something to tie into how and why he's awakened to himself and begun rampaging while the Egghead Arc happens.

Looking forward to colour pages after quite a few chapters without, and for a final surprise gut punch to put the cherry on top of one of the series' darkest and most effective flashbacks.

Currently there are 5 slots open. I may open more but I don't want to overwhelm myself right out the gate.

Up to 3 flags can fit on one character (Body, Tail, & Eyes), but If you think we can fit more I'm willing to try! (Flags on above example are Transgender (body), Aroace (tail), and Genderqueer (eyes).)

I'm most experienced with Feline Anthros, but if you're willing to take a chance I'm willing to try other species as well. I also am more experience with Plantigrade legs, but, as seen above, I can do Digitigrade.

I Only Do SFW art - please no kinks or explicit/super violent/nude requests. If you’re looking for That, I’m not the artist you’re looking for. I may also choose to/can be asked to not share the art on site. If it’s a gift for someone, or you don’t want your Cool Art seen by all, I’m fine with that. You CAN share your art off-site as long as you give me credit, and direct others to my blog! And please send me a link - I’d like to see what other people think!

You can Ask for Hypokits, Dungeons and Dragons original character designs (may take longer), MLP (same ship rules as the cats), Crystal Gems/Gem characters, or Try Your Luck - ask me that and get a Random Art! You can also direct me to Art challenges or Generators you think I might like/want me to do, but no promises there~

1: No Inappropriate Ships - No directly related characters, no weird age gaps; having a character born at a different time or reincarnation/Starclan Nonsense are the ONLY ways I’ll break the second part but the requester must Specify this or I will delete the ask. Example of an approved ask - Squirrel/Loner!Ashfur is okay, BUT Lionheart/Goldenflower or other sibling ships Are Not Okay - you know who you are, please Stop asking! As a note, non-ship art is always welcome as well!

2: One Request A Month Please - a first-time requester May have two requests answered at the same time, otherwise I will hang onto asks UNLESS I get more than 3 from one person in a month - I will delete either the oldest or my least favorite. I MAY make an exception if it’s a Really Good Idea but that’s not Normal Operating Procedure.

3: Things You Can (and Should) Request! I’ll do Specific Breeds, Disabilities (please be specific on details if it’s not a common one), Gender Pronouns/Identities (please, if you give me those, Give Me Pronouns too, because I want to be respectful), Good/Evil Swap, Angst/Fluff Backstories, Opposite Day Cats (please give me at least a starting point of what you think the opposite is on one detail to start), Sparklecats, and Emoji challenges (NEW!)…you can also Try Your Luck and give me Creative Freedom for funzies! If I think of any more they’ll end up here! I’ll also do Naming (send me a cat photo and I’ll give them a series of possible names) and Discuss AUs with you!

4: Random Full Page Art - sometimes I get Good Vibes from a Ship/Art Request and will do a full page of cats. This is completely random - some of you have good ideas and I vibe, sometimes I don’t get the Ship/Idea but still draw it.

5: Anon Requests - I may change small details on basic Anon requests - maybe swap a gender or do a breed. Ex - Tiger/Leopard to Looks like mom!Good!Tiger/Longhaired!Leopard. If a request has Details I will not change things. If you want it to stay basic/exactly like canon designs please say so or I may go a little crazy on it ;)

6: Three Strikes - if a user breaks my rules/makes inappropriate requests, they have three chances - I will require an apology and a week space for the first strike, a month for a second strike, and third strike gets you blocked. I am aware that you can just go through Anon Asks but I will just delete them on sight.

a note to me and whoever

I need to be honest. With you, with those around me, and with myself.

I have a heavy habit of avoiding the things that scare me. The problem is, everything scares me, except a thing or two at a time, and those things change very regularly. Some days, art doesn’t scare me. Sometimes personal art does and commissions don’t, and sometimes it’s the other way around. Sometimes games don’t scare me. Sometimes food doesn’t scare me. Sometimes friends don’t scare me. Most of the time, TV shows and movies don’t scare me.

I am especially afraid of all of the things that are actually, genuinely good for me. I’m afraid to work out, to eat right, to look at the things I need to do, to confront myself, to work, to make money, to text my mom or my landlord, to clean the bathroom, to shower, to cook my own food.

Every time that I’ve pushed through it, I’ve been happy that I did.

But that is so, so rare. I have about a 5% success rate on pushing through the fear and doing the thing.

This week, it was hanging out with friends on Saturday and then getting a haircut on Monday. I also leave for my family for holidays on Thursday, and that is going to take a lot of pushing. I’m already coming up with all the reasons not to go, even though I know that I absolutely want to.

When I’m up against something that scares me is good for me - I should start making this distinction, but that’s scary too - My head starts to work overtime. Suddenly, I’m telling myself (and instantly believing myself with such conviction) that I don’t want to do it, that I can’t do it, that it’s going to hurt, that it’s going to kill me. It’s not in those actual words, and I guess I don’t feel an actual physical threat to my livelihood… But instead, an ethereal one? I feel everything close around me, I think of all of the things that I’ll have to confront, I’ll think of how much it’s going to hurt - emotionally. Just thinking about it, I get battered down to the point that I’m exhausted and just want to go to sleep. A lot of the time, I do.

Right now, it’s been three weeks or so since I even opened a commission file, although I go to do it every day. I owe a lot of pieces right now. As I write this, my brain is trying to remind me of all of the reasons why, and how hard I’ve failed at weathering the storm and keeping everything on track. I know I have emails waiting for me, including some with some rude words. And honestly, that should be okay. I get into my avoidant hidey hole because I’m scared, and I don’t come out until I feel that everything has burned down around me. Maybe I feel more comfortable that way. Maybe I’d rather be seen sweeping up and making the best of a terrible situation, rather than being in the middle of a misstep.

Right now, in terms of art and commissions, I’m terrified. When I sit down to work, it’s like a giant swarm of shadows and more are swirling around the folder I need to open, the file I need to double click, the website I need to go to. More often than not, I have no idea how to handle them and I run. I get as far away from them as I can, so I can forget about them. At the end of the day, though, the things I need to do are still inside. I carry their weight with me throughout every second of every single day, except for that brief moment after I run away.

My intention is always, always, always to come back. It has been for years. This is not a new problem for me, and it’s definitely not only something that happens with art commissions.

Something I love to do when I’m having a hard time with something, is come up with some kind of scenario where I can handle it. It’s usually something fantasy. When I was in college and in a sound design class that I hated, I came up with this cool idea of a character who can collect sounds in jars, to be stored until you opened them and the sound would play. I was hoping that jazzing up the idea of me walking around Columbus would make me want to record audio bits more, but it never did.

In this moment, I’m wishing I had a weapon of some sort to fight these swarms of shadows that are chaining up and blocking the door. Maybe a baseball bat anointed in an oil, that I can swing around and diminish the shadows. A baseball uniform stitched up with special thread that has shadow dispelling properties, a cap that eases the effect on your brain you get from being around the shadows. Damn, that’d be cool.

I love coming up with these metaphors, and often get wrapped into trying to make big stories about them. In that, I wind up doing exactly what I always do: avoiding the thing that scares me.

Just do it. Brute force it. Fake it till you make it. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.

I want to be able to use those mindsets, I really do. I’m terrified and feel so fragile, and I just want to prove to myself over and over and over and over again that I’m not. I want to believe that I can do these things. I know I have the skills to do most of the things I want to do, and that I’m an incredible student when I want to be.

I have absolutely zero confidence that I can do anything that frightens me, or isn’t comfortable. I absolutely do not want to end this on that note. I’m trying to come up with a lovely way to turn it around, wrapping this up with a positive mindset. I don’t have one right now, and maybe that’s okay. I don’t feel negative. I’m glad that I’ve written all of this, and that I’m even thinking about posting it (don’t know if I will). I think I should let that be enough. Confronting myself on this, owning up to it, is enough for tonight.

So… In short:

I have been really scared and avoiding a lot of discomfort. I have not been doing the things that will help me in the long term, and by doing so, I have been very unkind to myself. I’m really wrapped up in the shadows of it all, and I don’t want to be here anymore. Tonight, I’m acknowledging all of these things.

edit: little update i kept writing after this, 'cause i still had time to fill. i'm trying to do 30 minute journal sessions a few times a week. i decided to think about what i would do if i had the energy for it, and then i did some of it. i feel lighter. i wrote some notes to myself and i'm setting a reminder to read through what i posted here and the rest of it, including my notes to myself... i can do this
