Palimar
Hard feet against cold earthen floors. The smell of jaggery-sweetened vorn being stirred slowly in a dimly lit kitchen. Crows swoop down to claim the leftovers of last night’s kori-rotti. A cool breeze from the west sets a gentle tempo for the dancing wildgrass. I march forward.
Opa begins his seemingly endless chant, “Left, left, left-right-left. Left, left, left-right-left.”  Our straightened legs lead the way, arms swinging in unison. Summers at Palimar usually followed the same rhythm.
Located in the Udupi district of Karnataka, visits to my ancestral home have become my favourite summer tradition. As the years went on and the family grew larger, so did the sound of crackling firewood heating our baths for the evening, the pat-pat-pat of marching feet against rough concrete, and the roaring laughter of my cousins running through the hallways.
Our visits begin early in the morning, bellies filled with a helping of dosa and chai, we make our way onboard an express bus. If we get lucky, all three of us cousins would sit in the same row. Alas, the Sunday crowd warrants a narrow seat by the bus driver, one that my cousin sister–  Anushka and I squeeze ourselves into.
Each stop is marked by the bus conductor's shouted reminders, followed by an organized chaos of travellers moving in and out of the metal box on wheels. After all these years, Anushka, Aarav and I have learned to sleep through the blaring bus horns, which explains our shock and excitement upon reaching the Padubidri bus stand so soon.
It doesn't take too long for Oma to hail an auto rickshaw, directing the driver with such practiced ease, she rivals a modern day GPS. To an ordinary traveller, the entirety of Palimar might seem to be composed of the same visual elements; local shrubbery, roads that twist and turn into infinity, and the occasional clay house. However, to those of us who pay attention to her little details, the ancestral house leads us onward by the sweet smell of young coconut growing on trees, and the sound of the crashing waves of her backwaters.
The auto rickshaw stops a few paces away from a one story house, cracked maroon and blue paint coats the clay walls, unruly weeds run wild throughout her front yard, and the concrete pavement has turned algal. By the time my grandparents moved away, we were left with no farm animals to herd. However, this does not stop Anushka from her annual attempts to domesticate the stray dogs of Palimar.
We continue towards the house, our bodies coated in a thin layer of sweat from the summer heat, and set down our plastic bags filled with water bottles and steel tumblers.
“Mom, did you carry a bottle of Thums Up?” Aarav drones, dragging out each syllable in a childish lilt. Before his mother has a chance to answer, Oma returns to the verandah holding young coconuts, ushering us to pick some more from the base of the surrounding coconut trees. And so begins a competition of speed, strength, and differentiation among me and my cousins.
Covered in sticks, mud, and the occasional beetle, the three of us scurry back to the concrete pavement, careful not to drop our hard-earned treasures.
Now, here comes my favourite part of the summer tradition, hacking open of the coconuts. Opa walks out to the verandah bearing a koiti, and reaches for the pile of coconuts laid on the ground. We all hold our breaths as Opa makes the first strike, exhaling as a thick piece of husk is chopped off. I've always been in awe of his precision, lean hands grip the coconut with the same firmness as his voice. The steel tumblers that were packed in plastic bags are now being passed around, and my father pours out the translucent fluid into each vessel.
As a kid, I found the lactonic notes from young coconut water quite repulsive. I cannot tell you when it was exactly, but as our visits to Palimar grew less frequent, my longing for the cold and nourishing elixir grew fonder. A stroll along Padubidri beach takes me back to my summers of the 2010s, though, my memories have started to blur together— dark smoke flowing out of the chimney before our evening baths, the chicken coop and the incessant clucking of its residents, my plastic swing attached to the bedroom door frame, and Aunty Kalyani along with her cow– which she milked every evening during her visits.
Twilight draws in, a symphony of riverside cicadas makes itself known to us, and the husks of tender coconut have piled up to my height. A heaviness sets into our limbs as we move to pack away the used tumblers, and the air carries the aroma of coconut oil used to prepare the neighbour’s supper. Reluctantly, Opa makes his way down from the verandah, leading us back to the bus stand. All is quiet, for everyone is musing the very same idea– another afternoon at the Palimar house.
I wait another year.

Here are some German specific quirks I think König would have <3
─── ⋅ ∙ ∘ ☽ ༓ ☾ ∘ ⋅ ⋅ ────── ⋅ ∙ ∘ ☽ ༓ ☾ ∘ ⋅ ⋅ ───
(yes, I know he's Austrian, but the difference is really only that they talk funny and have better desserts)
♡ he HATES fans and air conditioning. Like I'm talking disdain from the deepest pits of hell kinda hate.
Ceiling fans and AC are not a thing here, and literally every German looks at it with a very disapproving look if there happens to be one somewhere.
König absolutely refuses to sleep with the fan or AC on, just open a window, Liebling!
He's so upset that he can't put the window "auf kipp" :( (pls Google it, it's so hard to explain lol) like he's crushed that he can't keep the windows "auf kipp" all day.
You have a ceiling fan? Nope, not anymore. That thing is getting taken down the minute you move in together. But if you insist on keeping it, he'll secretly cut the cable to the switch.
Everyone knows all they do is whirl around dust and make you sick! He's not having it.
König acts like artificial ventilation is his worst enemy (I agree with him) and he'd rather suffocate than turn on the goddamn AC.
♡ Sundays are strictly lazy/rest days. Nothing's open on Sundays here, so we're forced to relax and not run around like headless chickens trying to get things done.
He's absolutely baffled if you have plans to go somewhere on a Sunday. What do you mean you need to run errands? What do you mean you're going out? And if you want him to come along?? Yeah, no.
His brain stops working. After the many years he's been alive, not once has he gone somewhere on a Sunday that wasn't his Oma's house for Kaffee und Kuchen.
You're not going anywhere. Plans are canceled, and you better spend the day on the couch with him.
♡ König probably misses all the beautiful old architecture Vienna has to offer. You don't quite appreciate it as much when it's just there all the time, but now he wishes he could quietly people watch in the city center :(
In my mind he's a bit of a history nerd, so he probably frequented museums and castles, admiring the delicately sculpted ceilings and wondering how people lived back then.
He'd be most fascinated by the masonry work done on the outside of most buildings. I mean, that's stone, but it's so smooth and carefully crafted.
♡ there are some very weird sayings in German that you just can't translate because they don't make sense. König is sick of having to awkwardly try to explain what they mean after he's been caught muttering one under his breath, only to realize halfway through that he looks like a maniac.
German is a very literal language, and I think he misses speaking it. We have very specific words for some things and he probably struggles to talk in English sometimes purely because the words he wants to use just don't exist.
(I'm very upset they didn't give him an Austrian accent bc it's one of my favorites, but I can also confidently say that I think he wouldn't be taken seriously at all if he had one lmao)
♡ König goes on random ass walks sometimes. Where's he going? On a walk. No, like where is he going? HE'S GOING ON A WALK.
There's no destination, you just walk. No matter the weather. Ya walk until you feel like you've walked enough. (A very German experience and I hate it)
♡ dreams of his Oma's Kaiserschmarn (me too, König, me too.)
It's basically a giant pancake that you tear into little pieces (traditionally, it has raisins too, I think) and you eat with either cinnamon sugar or applesauce (or both) and you will drift up to heaven.
It's warm, it's fluffy, it's sweet;
It's perfect for a gloomy Friday afternoon spent with his Oma and Opa 🥺
(Can you tell that I'm projecting)
─── ⋅ ∙ ∘ ☽ ༓ ☾ ∘ ⋅ ⋅ ────── ⋅ ∙ ∘ ☽ ༓ ☾ ∘ ⋅ ⋅ ───
"Auf kipp" is a very specific window position where only the bottom two hinges stay attached so you can tilt the window towards you and a little crack is open so you can always have fresh air!
"Oma und Opa" grandma and grandpa, which he loves so much, undoubtedly.
"Kaffe und Kuchen" basically tea time. You get together and eat cake and have coffee! Mostly on the weekends :)
"Kaiserschmarn" what dreams are made of.

dadventures with the schuminis: rock it, minnie! || ms47 scenario (1)
Tumblr media
dad!mick schumacher (x ofc) centric
EXTENSION TO THE LITTLE SCHUMINIS
Summary: A series in which Mick Schumacher tackles the challenges and moments of being a father to his little carbon copies with his father Michael Schumacher (alongside his in-law Sebastian Vettel, who continues to deny that he was a grandfather while accepting his role as the Schumacher kids’ Opa).
Scenario summary: With Minna’s first birthday coming up, Mick struggles to find the perfect gift that she’ll learn to cherish forever. Thankfully, Michael still knows how to make Gina’s old rocking horse and Sebastian knew how to operate the electric sander. AND Michael and Sebastian are insufferable as in-laws.
Content warning: dad!Mick Schumacher, grandpa!Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel being competitive as grandparents, Seb denying he’s a grandpa, terms of endearment, fluff, mentions of pregnancy, Mick making a dirty joke, brief German translations, mentions of grandma!OFC (Bel Vettel) spoiling Minna

Mick Schumacher knew that his off days were numbered. He hated that he had to count his days and immediately head back to the road and race.
But he did what he had to do for the sake of giving his daughter a better future— whether it had something to do with their financial situation (they were rich as hell) or her desire to follow Mick’s footsteps to become a racer (Mick was praying to god she didn’t want to be a racer), he persisted on staying and racing for the season for the sake of his family.
Regardless of his limited days off, he did what he could do and participated in the event planning for his firstborn's first birthday celebration. His wife, Barbie, insisted that she and Gina were handling it well, but he wanted to do something special alongside them.
And so Barbie and Gina assigned him to find his daughter a special gift for the celebration. “Something that would mean to her in the long run,” his sister said.
His face paled a little when she said that. It was so cryptic and vague. It was just vague.
He thought about the theme of the party at first. Minna Elisa’s first birthday party was running with the farm theme.
When it was first suggested by Gina, Mick almost snorted to ridicule the thought. “We already grew up around them,” he said, “I don’t think Minna would appreciate that. Why can’t it be just horses?”
Then Barbie and Mick’s mother Corinna agreed to Gina’s idea. After all, Minnie was already showing a great interest in animals! Specifically horses.
Horses.
RIGHT! Mick almost yelled and stood up, looking for his old photo albums. He skimmed through the pages and wondered what his and Gina’s rooms looked like before in Texas. The Schumacher siblings loved their home in Texas— especially their rooms. Mick’s room was converted to be Kimi and Stefan Vettel’s guest rooms but they remained with the same theme of western style and horses.
Then, just as he browsed through his pictures with Gina in her bedroom, his eyes immediately zeroed in on the pink and blue wooden rocking horse that his baby self sat on while Gina stood next to the boy.
He knew what he wanted to get his little girl now.
And so the first thing he did was phone his parents. He called Corinna’s phone, but it was Michael who had answered the call.
“Mick?”
“Oh, hey Dad, is mom there?” Mick nearly facepalmed. This was literally Corinna’s phone he had called.
“Am I that boring to you, Mickie?” Michael scoffed, making Mick roll his eyes. “I can hear your eyes rolling from here. Seriously, is there anything I can help with? Your mom is out at the back right now.”
“Yes, actually,” Mick cleared his throat and stared at the picture of him and Gina as he continued, “I saw this photo of me and Gina in the ranch— her room actually. Gina had this wooden rocking horse and I’m wondering if we still have it there. I’m hoping to ask Gina if I can get it and restore it as a gift for Minnie’s birthday?”
“Oh. That pink and blue one?”
“Yup, that one.”
“Gina broke it when she was five and we had it thrown out,” Michael almost sighed at the memory.
Mick winced when he learned the news. “Why- ugh Gina.”
“We told her that she can’t ride it anymore but she was persistent,” Michael chuckled. “Why would you restore it when you can just buy one?”
“Because it would mean a lot more if Minna got the same one her Aunt Gina has,” Mick murmured. “She’ll see it in the pictures and be like ‘Wow this was my Auntie G’s!”
“Huh,” Michael let out a hum. “That’s… that’s very thoughtful, Mick. But sadly we don’t have it in Texas, anymore.”
Mick let out a sigh of defeat. He could just always get Minna a new one, but it would mean a lot if his daughter got something from their childhood that she would enjoy as well.
Michael had a different thought, however.
The 7-time world champion had spoken up again after hearing absolutely nothing from his son, “It was something that I made from scratch, Mick.”
Mick’s eyes quirked at the sound of this as he asked, “You made it?”
“Ralf and I did,” Michael replied, referring to Mick’s uncle as Michael continued, “I still remember what it looks like and if you’d like, we can make it. Though I doubt that you’d have time to—“
“NO, NO, NO!” Mick panicked, wincing at the volume of his voice as he looked back at the entryway of the living room. Barbie would kill him if his tone woke the baby up. Then he began speaking as quietly as possible, “I’m not busy on my next off— surely it won’t take us long to make it right?”
“You have to rest for the—“
“—Dad, I’m begging you right now please help me,” Mick pleaded desperately. “I have a doubleheader after my next off and I wouldn’t have time in the future like Dad please.”
Michael immediately interrupted Mick, “Mick for the love of god, stop freaking out—“
“—Sorry,” Mick muttered. “Didn’t mean to freak out. ‘S just… I haven’t done anything for Minnie’s birthday and this is her first birthday. My first kid’s first birthday. I’m already missing out on most of her life and I can’t even do anything for her first birthday? What kind of a father would I be?”
Michael understood. He understood fully what Mick felt and he wouldn’t deny that. He was a father as well, and he rarely saw Gina and Mick during the season— he had often labelled himself as a shitty father for it. It was only fair that Michael understood how Mick felt now that he, too, was a father.
But instead of expressing his empathy outright, Michael only sighed and spoke, “Lassen Sie uns morgen mit klaren Köpfen beginnen.” Let’s start with clear minds tomorrow.
“Was meinst du, Dad?” What do you mean, Dad? Mick asked.
“We’ll plan out what to do in two weeks then start,” Michael told his son through the phone and instructed, “It’ll take us a while to figure it out so I need you to clear your brain and sleep it off. Don’t get too stressed, Mickie. ‘s not good for you— Minnie’s a baby but she can feel stress when it’s nearby.”
“Okay,” Mick cleared his throat, now determined to stay sane for a little while. “I’ll do that.”
“Don’t get too antsy about not being able to do anything,” Michael reassured him. “Everyone around you already knows you’re doing more than you think.”
“Alright,” Mick murmured softly, “th- thanks dad. Say hi to mom for me, yeah?”
Tumblr media
“You guys~” Barbie had walked into the deck of their home, her face offering her husband Mick and father-in-law Michael a puzzled look.
“You two have been here for hours,” Barbie told them as if she was worried. She had been hearing some strange noise at the deck earlier today alongside the murmuring. Knowing Mick and Michael, she assumed that they were just relaxing at the back.
Yet here she was, looking at them with a baffled look as she watched Mick’s hand pull away from the half-cut lumber and electric saw.
“No we’re not,” Michael quipped, “we’ve been here for two.”
“Hours,” Barbie emphasized. “Minna just—“
“Da! Da!” Corinna had followed suit and walked out with eleven-month-old Minna in her arms, grinning as the baby continued to babble happily.
“Yeah, what Minna said,” Barbie murmured, stepping back as she said, “she just woke up from her nap.”
“Aw, is that right, meine kleine Minnie?” My little Minnie. Michael cooed, arms extending to reach for his granddaughter as he carried Minna in his arms. He grinned heavily as he began to move around with the little girl. “Did you have a good nap, liebe?”
“Pip!” Minna shrieked, only knowing that word alongside ‘Ma’ and ‘Da.’ “Pip!”
“Is that a yes or a no?” Michael hummed before pressing a kiss on the little one’s chubby cheek. “I assume it’s a yes.”
“Oh definitely a yes,” Barbie chuckled, “I know what Mick looks like waking up from a nap— she's definitely a Schumacher who had a good nap.”
Mick groaned playfully, earning a giggle from Barbie.
“By the way,” Barbie brought up, “Seb is coming over with Kimi and Stefan.”
“Oh great, look, Dad, Seb’s helping us,” Mick looked at Michael.
“What’re you two doing anyways?” Corinna asked, her eyes looking at the scattered tools and piled-up lumber. Barbie found herself looking as well, curious eyes now trained at the cans of paint as she looked back at the father-son duo.
“Stuff,” Mick shrugged nonchalantly.
“Wow aren’t you specific,” Corinna muttered.
“It’s for Minnie’s birthday,” Michael waved off the two women, “don’t worry about it. It’ll be done by the end of the day.”
“Minnie’s birthday is in four weeks,” Mick continued, “I wanted to make something for her so… yeah.”
“You don’t even know how to make something wood-related, Mick,” Barbie replied with a raised brow.
Mick then murmured, “I’ll show you something wood-related— ow, Mom!” Corinna smacked Mick on the back of his head and glared at him, gesturing back to Minna.
Michael snorted aloud, making Minna laugh at the sound.
“That’s your child in front of you, Mick,” Barbie warned with a cheeky grin. “Careful with your words now, yeah?”
Mick only rolled his eyes. It wasn’t as if Minna could understand that easily.
“Besides,” Barbie continued, “shouldn’t you be talking to Seb about… lumber stuff? He’s made an impressive apiary before.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Michael scoffed and waved off the offer, “I’ve made this before. It’s nothing I can’t do. Sebastian’s never done this— he wouldn’t be that good without any instruction.”
Corinna and Barbie traded looks. If there was something that the Schumachers and Vettels knew, it was that Sebastian was good at a lot of things— so the fact that Michael was underestimating his woodworking skills? That definitely wouldn’t sit right with Seb especially if he’s heard of it.
Tumblr media
Sebastian Vettel wasn’t usually like this, but when Corinna brought up Michael’s comments about his skills the 4-time world champion couldn’t help but lean against the deck railing with a smirk. In his hand was a bottle of beer, watching the Schumacher men struggle with sanding the wood surfaces that they’ve cut. Or rather, they didn’t know how to operate the electric sander.
Mick groaned, “Seb— some help please?” He turned to look at the driver, who kept leaning against the railing with a cheeky smile.
“I would but Michael said I can’t be good without ins—“
“Oh come on, have a laugh, Seb,” Michael looked at Sebastian in annoyance, making the man finally cave in and laugh. “Just come help— this is your granddaughter’s gift too—“
“No, don’t call Minnie that,” Sebastian interrupted Michael and shook his head. “Don’t call her my granddaughter.”
“Is she not?” Mick raised a brow. He was merely teasing. After all, Sebastian proudly called himself Barbie’s (foster) father — therefore he was a proud Opa to the little Minna Schumacher.
Seb just refused to be called a grandfather. He wasn’t that old yet. Fernando Alonso was literally older than him! He sometimes denied that he was a grandfather— but he wouldn’t ever deny Minnie the right to call him Opa.
“Step away,” Sebastian said, now handling the sander as he started it. “You should’ve called me earlier today— I would’ve gone and done all of this.”
“Dad said he could do it, that's why I thought we didn’t need some help,” Mick reasoned.
Sebastian gave his mentor Michael a look and said, “Minna’s not just your granddaughter, Michael. Learn to share responsibilities. I have to spoil her too.”
Michael rolled his eyes, “Just sand the whole thing so we can paint it.”
Tumblr media
Minna Schumacher’s first birthday party was anything but simple. The little one had charmed people with her signature Schumacher grin and had giggled at almost anything.
But it wasn’t just her adorable and charming being that turned the environment of the party up a notch. Her little heart-studded cowboy boots gathered the attention of most guests as she slowly walked and stomped around the venue, smiling up at whoever she came across as her mother Barbie assisted her.
“Oh my, is that my Minnie baby?” Barbie grinned at her mother Bel Vettel as the little one excitedly stomped her feet down. Minna immediately sped up her steps and leaned forward to be reached by Bel.
The older woman, despite not looking the part, took Minna in her arms and hoisted the baby up with a light grunt. Bel grinned and squealed at Minna, “You are such a big girl now, Minnie! Whatever will Oma do about it?!”
“Oma,” Minna babbled repeatedly before putting her little hands over Bel’s cheeks. The baby continued to babble as Bel nodded along.
Bel then looked over at her daughter and smiled, “And you? I’ve heard you’re feeling sick lately.”
Barbie rolled her eyes playfully, “It’s hard to keep things a secret in this family, huh?”
Bel chuckled, “You know that we’re only worried. Are you okay though, Barbie? Corinna said—“
“Nina!” Bel and Barbie chuckled at Minna’s excited expression.
Bel then continued, “She said that you’re feeling ill— or at least Mick’s been telling her.”
“Mm, yeah,” Barbie hummed, reaching to fix Minna’s pigtails as she continued, “I’ve been throwing up and all that… I think I know—“
“—I knew it,” Bel squealed, bouncing Minna in joy as she cooed at the baby, “Minna’s gonna be a big sis huh? Are you?”
Barbie chuckled happily, “I have a hunch. Let’s just not tell Mick or the others yet, if that’s okay. I don’t want them to get their hopes up.”
“Yeah, of course,” Bel grinned, pressing kisses on Minna’s face. “I’ve got more babies to spoil— and I thought Stefan and Kimi’s gonna be the only kids I’ll be able to spoil!”
“I still can’t believe you got her a bag,” Barbie rolled her eyes, making Bel giggle as Barbie continued, “She won’t be able to use that for a while, Bel. She's only a year old.”
“Yeah, but she’s my Minnie baby,” Bel pouted dramatically. “You know I wouldn’t pass up the chance to spoil my little Minnie, no, Bebe?” Bel grinned at the toddler as Minna replied with a laugh.
“Bel,” Barbie sighed, “you got her a Hermes.”
“Only the best from Oma Bel,” the older woman grinned, making Barbie sigh again.
Barbie then said, “Only the best for Minna— I feel like I’ve heard everyone say that.”
“Of course,” Bel quipped, “everyone wants to be Minna’s favourite. But it seems like her Da and Pippa will win that title sometime soon.”
They both looked over where the wooden rocking horse was. It was majestic— the handiwork that Mick and Michael made for the little girl.
It was similar to the one that Mick showed Barbie. But instead of the pastel blue and pink, the rocking horse was painted with the colours of Michael Schumacher’s racing suit back when he won his first world championship— the Benetton blue and yellow accentuated in the wooden horse while his driver number was painted on the sides of the horse.
Barbie chuckled softly, “Don’t say that out loud— Seb might hear. You know that he wants to be Minna’s favourite grandpa no matter how much he refuses to get called one.”
On the other side of the room, the birthday girl’s dad Mick, and her grandfathers Michael and Sebastian (who still called himself ‘Opa’ rather than ‘Grandpa’) stood as they looked over where the wooden horse was.
“I’m surprised that it turned out well,” Mick mumbled. Sebastian and Michael hummed in agreement. “Minnie wouldn’t stop going to it since she found it.”
“Well that’s good,” Michael joked, “otherwise I wasted hours of my time for nothing.”
“This was an eye-opener for me, you know?” Mick told the two, making the older men shoot him a puzzled look as he continued with a grin, “Who would’ve thought that it’ll take being Minnie’s grandpa for you to fight over the little things?”
Sebastian scoffed and Michael rolled his eyes.
Sebastian then grinned, “Had I known that Michael was going to be this insufferable as an in-law, I simply wouldn’t have let you date Barbie—“
Michael’s eyes widened and he looked at Sebastian with a baffled look, making Sebastian and Mick laugh aloud.
“Oh you two,” Michael muttered. “It’s no wonder why I’m Minna’s favourite.”
“Yeah, yeah, keep lying to yourself, Michael.”
“Yeah, whatever, Dad.”

Take this ask as your opportunity to yell about your babies because I love them and I want to know more so badly
YAY
Gender terms quick list
Sibling: sisser for collie, sibber for mimi
(Place of boy/girl): berchte and green man/boy
(Place of daughter/son): hys (pronounced like ice with an h at the start) for collie, aughter for mimi
(add grand, also grandchild or grandbaby)
Nibling and/or niece for both
Misser for both and missie for collie
Collie is a berchte, (burk-tuh, and the k is a bit glottal) a type of germanic snow nymph. she's a nymph of snow and mistletoe. fae talks and stands before Mimi does, but he properly walks first. she is talkative (tho for now this mostly means about 20 actual words and lots of babbling) and often talks for both herself and faer sibber.
she's chaotically mischievous in the way of most winter children, tho this young she is extremely bad at fae word gymnastics and usually just comes straight toward faer parents all excited like "kitchen on fire lala :D"
Family terms collie uses:
Io - Lala
Remus - Papa
Logan - Granddad
Roman - Papaw
Patton - Grandpa/Grandpat
Virgil - Opa
Linda - Lannie (baby-slur of Linda + Auntie)
Mimi is a green man of evergreen trees and shrubs, and has a fondness for yew in particular. he is completely mute - he does not and will never learn to verbally speak. lu does make noise very rarely, but usually only when very upset. his "laugh" is a sort of hard exhale, more of a huff, with no vocalization.
Lu speaks in a combination of ASL and fae hand-speech, the two nonverbal languages ly parents know. he will also learn morse code eventually, but that's more of a private language he uses to talk just to collie, and eventually their other siblings (think tapping directly on them out of sight so other fae dont have a chance to see and learn it)
Family terms Mimi uses
Io - Handspeech: song-parent
Remus - Handspeech: green-parent
Logan - handspeech: spring-grandfather, ASL: green-grandpa
Roman - ASL, red-grandpa
Patton - ASL, yellow-grandpa
Virgil - handspeech, winter-grandfather
Linda - Handspeech: autumn-parent-sibling, ASL: L-N-Aunt
As you can maybe tell, Mimi tends to use handspeech for fae and fae-related things, and ASL for humans and human-related things. lots of codeswitching going on here
fae hand speech is a full language just like ASL, but its constructed in a way thats harder for humans to learn. it has comparatively few signs to ASL, all of them for nouns or abstract concepts, and most words and sentences are constructed via compounding them in ways that are not standardized, and so rely on faes ability to intuit language better than a human can.
"i saw a bird" might be constructed as "eye-bird" or as "myself-bird-meeting" and both are equally correct and intelligible to fae. those are pretty obvious examples, but you can see how a sufficiently esoteric or complex sentence would trip a human up

Broken, Yet Yearning
Name: Rosmarie Cäcilia Krüger
Age: 23
Ethinicity:Germam
Nationality: Australian
Physical Characteristics:
Skin tone: Pale(honestly probably paler than Simon tbh lol)
Hair: Long raven black wavy hair that reaches past her rear.
Dark grey eyes, almost storm cloud grey but not quite.
Height: 5’9, felt it might be cuter if she were on the slightly taller side but still a bit shorter than Simon
Rosmarie’s Family Background:
Family information:
Mother: Albina Kruger
Father: Hans Kruger
Sibling(s): Alena Kruger
Grandparents: Oma( German for Grandma) Opa (German for Grandpa)
Background information:
Rosmarie had finally moved away from her family and home country of Australia after being accepted into the college of her dreams in London, England.
The move to England was a big step into starting a new life after having left her toxic family behind but also leaving behind the only family she had and that being her loving and compassionate Grandparents whom pretty much took her in and raised her.
Rosmarie’s parents are definitely something. When she was young, her parents found out they were having another daughter, but the second pregnancy had been a rough one, bad to the point her mother and sister nearly didn't make it past birth.
And that said reason is the reason they pretty much ignored Rosmarie after her little sister Alena was born.
Grandparents on her father’s side had noticed and immediately took action to make sure Rosmarie was cared for the best they could especially since they weren’t granted custody, nonetheless, Rosmarie spent most of her time with her grandparents, even learning their native tongue to help communicate with them easier. And pretty much spent most of her time with her grandparents and friends up till she made her move to London for schooling and permanent stay, but achingly so as she parts with her only family and few friends with promises to call and video chat as much as possible along with visiting them the most she can.
I’m honestly probably changing her background story a little bit, but this is just a summarized version of her backstory.
The plot vibes I'm going for are a bit of a mix of Beauty and the Beast in a college setting, with the pairing of student-professor type situation, but am happy to take in ideas and suggestions, but please know this is my first Fic, and I'm sorry if my grammar is bad, I write in a way that things make sense to me but ill definitely be proofreading before posting chapters. I am also slowly building the story in each chapter as well because pre-planning things has never been my thing lol. I will also be aiming to make the chapters a decent length.
Nonetheless, I'm happy to answer questions, and take ideas or suggestions (credit will be given no worries!)
As for where these will be posted, you will be able to find them on both Ao3 and Tumblr as well 🙂
Hope you guys will stay tuned in my journey of this fic!

Cream Soda!!
She's a fan-egg for the QSMP I made with my friend
Some fun facts and alt versions under the cut
Creamy's accessory is her sunhat, we almost did a cloak but decided a sun hat worked best
We found her in an empty cream soda crate, hence her name
[The irl story behind her name was my friend holding her bottle of cream soda saying it was her child, and I compared it to qsmp. We then spiraled into creating an egg named cream soda. It's funny how a little comment turned into one of my favorite characters-]
She has a wolf named sasparilla she found when adventuring with Angel
She calls Angel opa and Ivylo mae [grandpa and mom in German and portuguese respectively]
Me and ivylo are each learning a different language [im learning pt and ivylo is learning german], so she refers to us in each other's language
We also have pet names for her in our languages. Angel calls her Leitinha [little cream in pt]
She's a pretty shy little girl, but is a menace to her family. She's got separation anxiety though
She's pen pals with other eggs, and loves to write
She also loves flowers, alomg with dandelions, tulips, and wither roses

A late Krampusnacht story
For Christmas Eve, instead of a Lord of the Rings thing, here is some of my original writing. I actually posted this last year after I impulsively wrote it, but snce then, I've edited a lot, showed it to a few people, and even read it to a third grade class. The kids who didn't chicken out at the scary parts loved it.
I'm also posting it because I would totally self-publish and sell this if I had an illustrator not that I have any money we could work something out with a kickstarter or a royalties arrangement where the illustrator gets the majority? Look, I can dream.
---
I’m Not Afraid of Krampus
AKA, The Night My Brother Punched Krampus
I hate my little brother, Jack.  He doesn’t like any of the things I like, he never wants to share, and he’s really annoying.  And right now, I have to share his room for a whole month.  His stupid room full of stupid planes and stupid trains.  All because Opa, our grandfather, is here for the holidays, and he has to use my room.
“I want to use the tablet,” I say.  “You’ve had it for an hour.”
“I have not,” says Jack.  “Anyway, you can watch your stupid animal videos on TV.  I’m playing a game.”
I put my hands on my hips.  “They are not stupid.  And Opa is watching TV.  And it’s your turn for the bed and my turn for the sleeping bag, so you owe me.”
“I don’t care,” he answers.  “It’s my bed, anyway.”
I try to grab the tablet.  He pushes me away.
“Mom!” I yell.  “Jack’s hogging the tablet!”
“Hannah’s stealing!” Jack yells after me.
But Opa comes instead of Mom.  Opa is from Germany.  He moved here years ago, so he speaks good English, but he likes German better.  That’s why we call him “Opa” instead of “Grandpa”.
“Are you fighting again?” Opa asked.  “Don’t you know it’s Krampusnacht tonight?  If you don’t behave, Krampus is going to put you in his bag and take you away to eat you!”
“What’s Krampus?” asks Jack.
“It’s some stupid German thing,” I say.  I remember Opa talking about it before.
“Krampus is the Christmas demon,” says Grandpa.  “He visits children’s houses the night before Saint Nicholas’ Day.  Saint Nicholas is Santa Claus’ real name, you know.”
“There’s a Christmas demon?” Jack says.  His voice squeaks.
“But it won’t be Christmas for weeks,” I say.  “So how can it be Krampusnacht tonight?”
“Saint Nicholas’ Day is on December six,” says Opa.  “Americans don’t celebrate it, so Santa comes on Christmas for you instead.  In Germany, all of the children leave their shoes out the night before Saint Nicholas’ Day.  He leaves toys in the good children’s shoes.  But Krampus looks for the bad children, and he leaves coal in their shoes.”
“That’s what Santa does!” says Jack.
I roll my eyes.  I don’t believe in Santa.  I’m too old for stupid things like that.
“Yes, I know,” Opa answers.  “But when children are really bad, Krampus puts them in a bag so he can take them home to eat.”
“You just made that up,” I say.
“It’s true!  Every child in Germany knows about Krampus.  And I saw him once.”  Opa bends down and makes a scary face.  “He has big goat horns and sharp teeth.  He’s all black, his eyes glow bright red, and his tongue is pointed.  He was the worst thing I’ve ever seen!”
Jack is shaking.  His eyes are huge.  But I cross my arms.
“I’m not scared of any old Krampus,” I say.  “If he really stole children, then we’d hear about it in the news.  And there would be too many kids to put in one bag.  And his name is stupid.”
But Jack believes him.  “If we don’t stop fighting, we’re going to get taken by Krampus and we’re going to get coal in our stockings from Santa!”
“Santa isn’t real, either,” I say.  “How could he go to all those houses in one night?  And how would he fit down a chimney?  And have you ever met anyone who got coal in their stocking?  Anyway, if Krampus eats you, you won’t have to worry about any stupid coal.”
"But you saw him once!  You said!"
I roll my eyes again.  "Yeah, but I was dreaming.  It was the middle of the night.  And I didn’t pinch myself to check if I was awake.  And you didn't see him."
“I know he’s real,” says Jack.  “I hope he gives you coal, and Krampus does, too.”
Mom finally comes to see what’s wrong.  “Nobody gives kids coal anymore,” she says.  “Not Santa or Krampus.  It’s bad for the environment.  Santa only brings presents to good children, as you know, but Krampus doesn’t come to America.”
“That’s not true.  You just never saw Krampus because you never fought with your brother,” says Opa.
Mom frowns at Opa.  I don’t think she believes in Krampus, either.
I notice that Jack left the tablet on the floor.  I pick it up.
“Hey!” says Jack.  “It’s my turn!”
“You’ve had it forever!”
He tries to get it back, but I hold it up high where he can’t reach.  Then, he punches me in the nose.  He can’t hit very hard, but it hurts.
“Mom!” I yell.
“That’s it,” says Mom.  “No more tablet for either of you.  No TV, either.”
I’m so mad.  Jack punched me, but we both got in trouble.
“Now Krampus is going to take us away for sure!” wails Jack.  He’s starting to cry.  “It’s all your fault!”
“I hope Krampus is real, and he does take you away and eat you!  I hope I never see you again!”
Jack stomps his foot.  “You’re the worst sister ever!”
“And you’re the worst brother!”
Too bad I still have to sleep in Jack’s room.  I still have to sleep in the stupid sleeping bag.  And I even have to hear him crying about stupid Krampus.
I fall asleep.  But in the middle of the night, I wake up.  Someone opens the door to our room.  “Mom?” I ask.  “Opa?”
But it’s not Mom or Opa.  The shadow in the doorway is way too tall.  Then, it steps through my door, and I can see it in the light from the street.  It’s all black, and it looks like it has horns coming out of its head.  It opens its mouth and shows me its sharp teeth and pointed tongue. It has long claws on its hands, and there’s a black bag over its shoulder.  And its eyes glow bright red.  It’s the worst thing I’ve ever seen.
I think I’m dreaming, so I pinch myself.  But the pinch hurts, like it does in real life.
“Gruss vom Krampus,”* he says.  I know that’s German.  He licks its lips with his long tongue.  “Happy Krampusnacht.  You both look very tasty.”
“Jack!” I scream.  “Help!”
Jack sits up.  He looks at me, and his mouth opens wide.
Krampus leans over me and opens his long claws.  “I think I’ll put Hannah in first,” he says.  “Jack will fit on top.  But hurry up!  I have to go all the way back to Germany before the sun rises there.”
I scream.  “Jack, it’s Krampus!  Krampus is going to eat us!”
I don’t know what to do.  But to my surprise, Jack jumps up.  “I’m not scared of any old Krampus!” he says.  “If you steal so many children, why don’t we hear about it on the news?  And how can you fit me and Hannah and some stupid German kids in your bag?  Anyway, if you eat us, we won’t have to worry about coal in our stockings.  And your name is stupid.”
Then, he punches Krampus in the nose.
Jack can’t hit very hard.  But I guess it hurt, because Krampus sits down on the floor.  And then, he starts to cry.  He doesn’t look so scary like this.  I laugh.
“You hit me!” he whines.  “And you’re laughing at me!  You’re the worst children ever!  I’m going to tell Saint Nicholas what you did!”  Then, he picks up his bag and runs away.
Too bad for him, Opa is in the hall.  He yells in German and runs after Krampus with his walking stick.  “It’s okay, Opa!” I shout at him.  “We’re here!”
He comes back to our room.  “Krampus didn’t take you?” he asks.
“No!” I say.  “Jack punched him!  He ran away!”
“Yeah,” says Jack.  “But Santa for sure won’t give me any presents now.”
“I think it’s okay to punch someone who wants to eat you,” I say.  “Anyway, Mom and Opa will still give us presents even if Santa doesn’t.  Right, Opa?”
Opa laughs.  “You punched Krampus?  Of course you get presents!”
“Only because Hannah told me how stupid Krampus is,” Jack says.  He looks at me.  “I’m glad you’re my sister.  I guess I should be nicer to you.  But I hope Krampus never comes back.”
“I won’t be scared of him with you around,” I say.  “I’m glad you’re my brother.”
Last page: picture of Santa’s hands crossing out “Naughty” next to Hannah and Jack’s names and writing “Nice” instead
“But I might have to think some more about that time I saw Santa Claus…”

Here to annoy you again, since I'm about close my bakery. Bestie I feel like my life's lore would make you go crazy. It's up there somewhere with Brocedes lore. Just to give you a gist of it (my version of talking to a therapist)–
I just turned 22, my brother is 20 years older than me. When I tell you I was an accident that my biological parents didn't want, I am not joking. They literally traveled to another continent just to leave me at my brother's doorstep. They hoped my brother would just put me up for adoption or get rid of me but unluckily for them my brother and his Australian husband love me a lot. I am their little sister, daughter, the force wrecks havoc on their life all at once. Life's been great since I got adopted by a German man and his Australian husband. Funniest bit is when my oldest calls them der opa/grandpa and they start having a meltdown because "They're not that old"
bestie what 😀😭😭😭 you're literally a baby with smaller babies
and you have a 7 year old??? what a whirlwind life omg...... youre living the your parents sell you to one direction wattpad protagonist life except instead of 1D you're adopted by your German brother/his Australian husband who now fund your trips to watch f1 races??? what a life omg... I'm glad you have a little family if slightly unconventional and are surrounded by love and fat babies <3
ooo a bakery :o I've actually been trying to write a bakery au but I feel like I need to know how to bake things beyond muffins to do it justice....... wove a good jelly dessert

I know it's probably some brand or something but 'Opa' literally means Grandpa in German.🤣🤣🤣
isn’t it also what people say when toasting in Greece, like “cheers”?

psych 2x12 the old & the restless
anupam nigam & tim meltreger according
Alternate titles: If you lived here you'd be dead by now TM: It was too long. My first one was called If You're So Smart Then Why Are You Dead? AKA Little Man Hate! Other alternates for this one were Age Against The Machine & Old Case
Brian Doyle Murray TM: Anu is a human IMDB
"We had to make him an anti-henry & we see some of where adult Shawn's philosophy comes from in life. You've got to live by the seat of your pants
(their voices sound too similar for me) I was trying to be professional on set but I was like "I'm sorry can I please get a photo"
smash cut right into the case
AN: Do you write the entire pepisode in a room with a single 40 watt lightbulb hanging from the ceiling?
TM: The writer's room is the heart of our job here on psych, it's the nerve centre where we sit around on couches & beat out stories until they make sense
Shawn being a doula again
Psychfact: they have a routine where they hide Gus in a sack & it never fails
TM is the internet guy. Mr Tim, if you are reading this *kisses you*
TM: I wanted to talk about Gus & Shawn's shirt, both wearing purple, very complimentary (they wear matching clothes. Honestly I wouldn't doubt it in canon.) AN: Henry's just dressing a little loud tonight. "Hey there's that pink safari shirt"
*gus sleeping on henry's shoulder* *henry not stopping him*
set design: Glorious Pines Centre for Assisted Living AN: It's a pretty big plot point that it can't be for assisted living
TM: I have another question. Is it cool to do the rest of this commentary pants-off? AN: Do what makes you feel comfortable TM: *microphone sounds* AN: No I can't help you
Describes the guitar is shimmering TM: What's the name of the guitarist? AN: That would be me! TM: Him! Did you have your pants on for that recording? (I think I got the ppl wrong. Their voices sound very similar. & I'm deaf) AN: Absolutely not!
Never calls him grandpa after that. Throw in a good algonquian moshum
"our" grampy. Maybe he's only his grandfather in the eyes of the law, not as in adoption but as in marriage
"When your episode gets shot, the psych people will fly YOU up to watch the episode
*five minute walk to the studio if you're in LA* *airplane if it's in BC*
I call my paternal grandfather grandpapa. he was quebecois. Opa! That's what I SHOULD be calling my maternal grampa but he was the youngest of like 13 & his older siblings went to school during or a bit after wwii so they got beat for speaking german.
gus does a GREAT agitated
Shawn & Henry matching colours
*Gus knowing random facts*
This is like when they sent Shawn to the mental hospital
REAL retirement community. ily kelly kulchak "I get that it's an old folks home, but do they have to look old?"
Henry "I'm going to teach you a lesson, even tho normally I'd storm out of here & leave you in the lurch" I mean they did trick him into coming here
Love a good old naming scheme
Love all the gus medical terms they had to do research/lh for
"I'm pretty sure when Chris Henze emailed me I walked out of my office into the writer's office & yelled I've got booger!"
Henry: Life lesson 20. People lie & they leave without warning. *looking at Shawn* Shawn: *rolls his eyes & shoulders in the biggest natural sigh ever*
idk anything abt marathon running
AN & TM used to run marathon in high school
BG: You can't get Indian Blood by working in a casino Me: That's what fist fights are for Fun fact, JRr is actually half mexican, & a ton of mexican population is mestizo (sort of like the Metis of canada, which I am) so by extension you could say he does have "indian blood" if you really wanted
Yeah, as an fnmi person it does strike me as weird that they'd say indian not native american but like this was 2007 & anupam is India Indian too lol
Some ppl say "asian indian" & "indian" not "Indian" & "american indian" really???? At that point just say native american bro. I guess "native american" implies USA when indian is used to mean anyone from the americas. Fine. (But then a lot of the time ppl also forget greenland still. Greenland is mostly inhabited by the inuit, but is owned by iceland, a european nordic/scandinavian country)
AN: & what's the name of your band, Tim? TM: *Gasp* the friendly indians! It's systemic! AN: & when you say Indians you mean people like me bc we're all very friendly TM: Absolutely. & You are very friendly. .. Although our story does have a very long "why we're called friendly indians" story that has something to do with political correctness. In some ways it's ironic but it doesn't bear talking about here.
yk what I'm happy this is finally mentioned. It's been smth around my head for a while, I just haven't cared to say it.
AN: I thought this was a neat clue!
Jason Enzler? idk. Great shot tho.
I forgot my man wasn't wearing any pants
AN had to stand in for that actress when she got held up in makeup (you need someone of comparable skin tone & height) "If there's something I don't like it's having to read my work aloud in front of other people, so I was standing there shaking, having to read my script"
OFFICE MOUSTACHE COMPETITION? "That's it, I'm putting my pants back on!"
I love henry's bathing suit
