i can't sleep and all i'm thinking about is how percy and clarisse are best friends but best friends in the most sibling "i hate you more than anything but if anyone so much as looks at you wrong i will kill them in a heartbeat" way

like their quest together where they saw each other's biggest fear, percy overhearing clarisse's conversation with ares, clarisse pleading with percy to understand that silena was a hero????

you cannot tell me that sally jackson didn't take one look at clarisse and not completely want to engulf this broken, hardened teenage girl in the warmest hug possible.

just percy and clarisse being best friends and no one knows the specifics, no one except for annabeth and chris knows exactly what went down.

and god forbid these two have a normal friendship, they will bicker and snap and say the harshest things, but they can also have entire conversations with their eyes and know exactly when the other is being triggered into a bad memory and needs to spar or talk.

like yes they're each other's rival but they're also each other's support system. they're best friends, they're siblings, they're enemies to friends to "i hope you get eaten by a hellhound but if that happened i'd go down to the underworld to get you back because i platonically can't live without you".

Percy knew it was irrational. It’s not like Annabeth had side-lined him for Piper. Since boarding the Argo II, her and Percy had spent all hours of the day together, and yet he still felt sick to his stomach each time her and Piper exchanged a knowing look or finished each others’ sentences.

What if the di Angelos left the casino early?

What if they left, not with Alecto before The Titan’s Curse, or with Annabeth & Percy & Grover in The Lightning Thief… but with Luke, before the series even began?

Luke went on his quest two years before the events of The Lightning Thief, seeking out the golden apple. We know he had to go west—there’s no reason he couldn’t have gone through Vegas.

Annabeth was twelve in The Lightning Thief. She would’ve been about ten when Luke went on the quest. Ten. The same age as Nico, in the Titan’s Curse… meaning that that’s how old Nico is while in the casino, so that’s how old he is when he leaves it.

So in this universe, Nico, Annabeth, and Percy are the same age. Nico’s puppy crush manifests… elsewhere. Unfortunately, he and Annabeth remain in competition.

In the two years before Percy arrives at camp and their lives go to shit, Nico & Annabeth’s biggest concerns were vying for Luke’s heart.

(This is a lie. But both wished it true, and pretended it was true, to an extent. Their other concerns, after all, were so much heavier, so much more adult. Better to worry about crushing on an admired councilor than girls who become trees and godly parents who ought to remain unknown and fathers who ignore their children and oracles that drive older sisters to insanity.

They wouldn’t have the luxury of ignoring these concerns forever, after all. They’d have a mere two years of relative ignorance, before the real world came rushing in. That was all they could afford.)
