SCU (smosh cinematic universe) headcanons:
This is basically me geeking out over fucking smosh sketches of all things (😭) and wanting to try and view it as a coherent story n shit 💀
This is more so me rambling while being lowkey out of it and definetly shouldn’t have let the drafts but hey I’m hoping someone appreciates this idk
Uhh also these aren’t tumblr style headcanons it’s like weird lore shit idk
Most of these aren’t Ianthony sketch ones btw!!
Augustus was fired from Smosh after the events of We Interviewed our Biggest Hater (oct. 2021), where he then got a job working for GameStop which we see in POV: You’ve entered a GameStop (nov. 2021). This head canon is more so just for like putting together a cohesive timeline but anyways
The documentarian from the grimace sketch is the same guy from the totally true documentary series
all the chosen lore shit isn’t bs and actually true because i think it’s way more fun (sorry, know that’s not the popular approach) also the chosen HAS powers in No Nut 2022, which isn’t a sketch I’d want to be canon but oh well 💀
Some of this is rooted in canon but instead of Anthony’s whole leaving smosh saga and all the vids surrounding it, Anthony straight up completely disappears from the public eye and becomes Anthobrie (idk how to spell her name) for 7 years after food battle 2016. Every video where Anthony plays his sketch universe self post fb2016 before he quit in the timeline takes place beforehand, with new Ianthony sketches taking place after fb2023 and after whatever video they make where they reanimate him (honestly I’m predicting fb2024). Anyways to the main headcanon, Anthony straight up left the face of the earth and everyone was like “yeah he quit smosh ig…” until during the first chosen multiverse Courtney’s chosen came and was like “bro he’s fighting laser dolphins in Guam???” Because the Anthony from their universe is doing that and everyone just kinda went with it until fb2023
Pharaoh High, I’mBarly, Lianna Indiana, The Curse Of The Shorts, Dancer @ Singer School, Varsity High and Smosh the Movie (as well as other tv shows and movies acted out in sketches I didn’t say) are canon tv shows and movies within the SCU, with Smosh the movie being acted out by sketch universe Ian and Anthony
fuck it the two paramedics played by Spencer and Tommy in the pregnancy smoffice sketch are married to each other 🥰🥰
The Every Blank Ever vids are canonically sketches played by the sketch universe versions of the cast
Shayne is actually 5’6 😘
Yo feel free to reply n shit disagreeing or whatever I’m real open to other’s views n shit, like for one I don’t even know whether to put Ianthony sketches in the same universe as like smoffice n shit lmao idk too sleep deprived to process anything I said in this post 😍😍

"I begin this book in the third year of my exile on the shores of the Eastern Sea, whence ships put out for the land of Punt, near the desert, near those hills from which stone was quarried to build the statues of former kings. I write it because wine is bitter to my tongue, because I have lost my pleasure in women, and because neither gardens nor fish pools delight me any more. I have driven away the singers, and the sound of pipes and strings is torment to my ear. Therefore, I write this, I, Sinuhe, who make no use of my wealth, my golden cups, my ebony, ivory, and myrrh.
They have not been taken from me. Slaves still fear my rod; guards bow their heads and stretch out their hands at knee level before me. But bounds have been set to my walking, and no ships can put in through the surf of these shores; never again shall I smell the smell of black earth on a night in spring.
My name was once inscribed in Pharaoh’s golden book, and I dwelt at his right hand. My words outweighed those of the mighty in the land of Kem; nobles sent me gifts, and chains of gold were hung about, my neck. I possessed all that a man can desire, but like a man I desired more — there–fore, I am what I am. I was driven from Thebes in the sixth year of the reign of Pharaoh Horemheb, to be beaten to death like a cur if I returned — to be crushed like a frog between the stones if I took one step beyond the area prescribed for my dwelling place. This is by command of the King, of Pharaoh who was once my friend.
But before I begin my book I will let my heart cry out in lamentation, for so an exile’s heart must cry when it is black with sorrow.
He who has once drunk of Nile water will forever yearn to be by the Kile again; his thirst cannot be quenched by the waters of any other land.
I would exchange my cup for an earthenware mug if my feet might once more tread the soft dust in the land of Kem. I would give my linen clothes for the skins of a slave if once more I might hear the reeds of the river rustling in the spring wind."
— Mika Waltari, The Egyptian, 1945

The Prince of Egypt
Roundtable Discussion
Tumblr media
In what ways does the film’s score situate the story with its narrative context?
youtube
timestamp: (1:19)
The film’s score acts as a major storytelling device. Each song provides key information about the narrative, explores developments in characters, and can show the passage of time within the story. In “Deliver Us”, we learn about the context of the enslaved Israelites in Egypt, the order from Pharaoh to kill every newborn Hebrew boy, and Moses’ mother Jochebed’s attempt to save him from the infanticide. “The Plagues” serves a similar plot-based purpose and definitely situates the narrative within the book of Exodus while maintaining the rivalry between brothers. The film’s score uses an overture and several reprises to fully embed the songs into plot and characterize this narrative as epic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
How do songs use character performance to push cultural authenticity in the film’s diegesis?
Songs include Hebrew language in their lyrics to push cultural authenticity. For example, Ofra Haza’s vocal performance in “Deliver Us” is one of the few vocal performances from a non-white person in the film. Like Armstrong notes, “Moana is not the first production for which Disney hired cultural ‘natives’ to grant cultural authority to offset criticism of imperialism”.
Haza's inclusion as the mother of Moses is a powerful and meaningful role, but she only appears at the beginning of the film. This character performance is used to push cultural authenticity as Ofra Haza is a famous Israeli singer who sings Hebrew in the song. The fact that she “stands out” is indicative of the limited casting—she is casted alongside famous, mostly white American actors.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In what ways does the film use musical “framing” to structure the score within familiarized styles?
Like in Moana, musical framing is also present in The Prince of Egypt’s score, composed by Hans Zimmerman. Traditional and culturally significant instruments like the shofar (which sounds like a horn), the flute, and percussion like the Darbuk and Toft, seem to be included in the score. These "unfamiliar" instruments however are sandwiched by and interspersed with “a familiar set of ‘normal’ musical sounds” like Armstrong mentions. The score is “framed” with choir vocals, french horn, strings, and other Western instruments.

Who Am I, Without Exile? by Mahmoud Darwish translated Fady Joudah
A stranger on the riverbank, like the river … water binds me to your name. Nothing brings me back from my faraway to my palm tree: not peace and not war. Nothing makes me enter the gospels. Not a thing … nothing sparkles from the shore of ebb and flow between the Euphrates and the Nile. Nothing makes me descend from the pharaoh’s boats. Nothing carries me or makes me carry an idea: not longing and not promise. What will I do? What will I do without exile, and a long night that stares at the water?
Water binds me to your name … Nothing takes me from the butterflies of my dreams to my reality: not dust and not fire. What will I do without roses from Samarkand? What will I do in a theater that burnishes the singers with its lunar stones? Our weight has become light like our houses in the faraway winds. We have become two friends of the strange creatures in the clouds … and we are now loosened from the gravity of identity’s land. What will we do … what will we do without exile, and a long night that stares at the water?
Water binds me to your name … There’s nothing left of me but you, and nothing left of you but me, the stranger massaging his stranger’s thigh: O stranger! what will we do with what is left to us of calm … and of a snooze between two myths? And nothing carries us: not the road and not the house. Was this road always like this, from the start, or did our dreams find a mare on the hill among the Mongol horses and exchange us for it? And what will we do? What will we do without exile?

Hergé (Belgian, May 22, 1907 - March 3, 1983)
Belgian author and artist, 1907-1983. Translated into over thirty languages, Hergé’s adventure stories about the brave and resourceful young reporter Tintin are popular with both children and adults throughout the world In twenty-four book-length comic strips, Tintin and his faithful fox terrier, Snowy, embark on a series of thrilling global adventures set in remarkably detailed, meticulously researched landscapes.
Hergé. whose real name is Georges Remi (he devised his pen name by inverting his initials to R.G.), published the first Tintin adventure in Le Petit Vingtième, the children’s supplement to Le Vingtieme Siecle, in 1929. Published in book form in 1930 as Tintin in the Land of the Soviets, this primitive work is the only one of the series that was not later translated into color, with the exception of Tintin and the Alpha-Art, a work unfinished when Herge died and left in sketch form at his request.
The second adventure, Tintin in the Congo (1931), reflects a contemporary European view of Africa based on ignorance and portrays the African people as gullible and naive. Neither Congo nor the fanatically anti-Communist Soviets has yet been published in the United States.
In Tintin in America (1932), Tintin takes on Chicago mobster Al Capone, and Hergé’s sociopolitical satire becomes more sophisticated as he depicts the National Guard driving the Blackfoot Indians away from their ancestral lands. But it is probably The Blue Lotus (1936) that marks Hergé’s refinement of detail and concern for accuracy.
After befriending a young Chinese student who urged him to avoid common stereotypes, Hergé began to delve further into research of the physical and cultural landscape. The story is a clear protest of Japanese expansionism on the Chinese mainland and of the treatment of the Chinese people by many Westerners. Hergé’s friend appears as young Chang in The Blue Lotus and later in Tintin in Tibet (i960), a story of true friendship Hergé claims as his favorite.
Ostensibly a journalist, Tintin is seen reporting to his editor only once in the series and follows his sense of adventure and justice rather than any particular assignment. In the course of his adventures he encounters a colorful cast of characters who become his cohorts: The bumbling, ineffectual detectives Thompson and Thomson, the rough old sea dog Captain Haddock with his legendary penchant for drinking whiskey and hurling passionate but innocent insults, and the absent-minded but ingenious Professor Cuthbert Calculus provide both help and hindrance throughout Tintin’s travels.
All of these characters find their way aboard the first manned rocket bound, for the moon in Destination Moon (1953) and Explorers on the Moon (1954), in which Tintin, Snowy Captain Haddock, and Thompson and Thomson set foot on the moon fifteen years before Neil Armstrong landed in Apollo 11.
Hergé constructed a detailed scale model of a German U2 rocket to create the drawings, and his extensive scientific research gives the books remarkable accuracy and foresight. While most of the Tintin stories are noticeably devoid of women, opera singer Bianca Castafiore takes center stage as a strong female character in The Castafiore Emerald (1963).
Charles de Gaulle once remarked, “My only international rival is Tintin.”

lol anon back (same anon that listed why Rami is amazing)! I got more 🙃
He’s our clumsy king and owns it
He fell at the Oscars, fell/pushed off a side railing, did parkour only to fall when he started running on the ground (it was a Mr. Robot blooper), fell backwards in a fucking chair, and tripped during the Red Carpet at the Met Gala. This man literally trips over air and himself but we still love him ❤️
Spending time with Emma who is non-binary
Literally does make a difference because it helps non-binary people feel like they’re noticed!
Puts so much thought and consideration i to his characters and roles!
Just think about all he had to do for “The Pacific”, “Mr. Robot”, and “Bohemian Rhapsody”! Definitely lots of dedication and hard work and passion for his roles, like wow.
Rami’s hair
Never gets old and I love his curly hair era! Also wavy hair too! Wonderful hair lol
He has great expectations for his roles
In an interview, Rami was asked if he was happy about “Night at the Museum” casting a pharaoh correctly. Rami’s reaction literally said, “that shouldn’t be something to be super overly happy about, it should just be casted correctly”. Good expectations honestly.
Rami was the side character for so damn long and steals every scene he’s in
Rami is literally amazing in all scenes he does and even if he’s not the main character, all eyes are on him (at least mine are 😌)
He’s one of the best versatile actors I think I’ll ever witness!
This man has literally played: a gay teenager who was crushing on his best friend
traumatized war veteran who has a thick Cajun accent
an iconic and memorable lead band singer
Alcatraz prisoner who plays the violin
ancient mummy pharaoh that comes to life at night
hacker with d.i.d and ptsd
a doctor named Adam Terry
random dude in Battle Ship
a vampire with a cool scarf
a mountain man and in real life Rami gets the chance to squabble in a tiny boat with his identical twin lmao (best sibling fight we’ll ever witness, @the-real-ramimalekpeen have you used this scene for Twin Tuesday yet?)
a 6’0 tall guy in a video game who was said to most likely have schizophrenia
a dude with a beard
a weirdo guy in the literal fucking show “BoJack Horseman”
and like so many other characters I’m choosing not to describe
Already said he was a “bad boy” and pranks people but he’s literally really funny
Have you seen him in different interviews? Such a charmer and pretty funny as well.
Like the interview with Charlie Hunnam where there was a question about Rami’s eye color and he and Charlie were teasing each other and trying to find out Rami’s eye color. Then some pictures are also pretty funny.
Also the “DoLittle” game with Robert Downey Jr (Rami’s whole outfit and appearance during the Ellen Show with Robert Downey Jr 😩👌 literally here for his outfit, freaking immaculate lmao)
“wE sHot LiVe aiD oN dAy onE”
That’ll be in my head forever, thanks Rami
“A playful smooch”
I don’t think I’ll recover from the shocked looks on everybody’s faces when Rami exposed how he had a kiss with Daniel Craig.
His fans are wonderful
This man has the best real fans. Which includes the fan artists, fanfic writers, and people who just appreciate him and/or his films! also people who stand up for him which is YOU Flipper and RamiPeen 👏
Photo shoots
How can you look at his photo shoots and NOT smile??? Precious but also sexy man.
Again he has a literal soft spot for children
That one time where I’m pretty sure he read a book to a few children
Best hugs
He seriously gives the sweetest and warmest hugs. Like can I get a hug?? 🫂
Oppenheimer moments
I don’t care what anyone says about his role in Oppenheimer. He had literally eight minutes of screen time yet still went for the fucking jugular and was successful.
The bulge
He has no shame and no, I won’t expand on this except… @the-real-ramimalekpeen 😉
Doesn’t give a fuck about haters
Lmao y’all hated Rami in Amsterdam and thought his character was stupid? Well he probably doesn’t give a shit (or is obliviously living his best life) lmao.
Ages like fine wine
God he looks like he’s in his fucking thirties in so many pictures. Raise your hand if you ever looked at a picture of him and thought, “oh a picture when he was in his twenties!” and it turns out the picture was taken in his fucking 40s… a few days ago… Unproblematic people age perfectly.
His smile makes me smile
Could he be any cuter??? His smile literally is so wonderful.
Most caring thing you’ll see all day and is husband material
When he was giving Emma his jacket, comforting the woman (friend) who was crying and thanking the waitress, and so many other events 🥺
Okay anyways got even more than this lol… sorry for rambling on about our Rami. I’m just so happy I finally get the chance to share my Rami findings and thoughts I’ve collected over the years.
I love your love for him!

Since everyone keeps bringing up the 90s cartoon Happily Ever After: Fairytales for Every Child, I wrote out some ideas for a hypothetical reboot. My main focus are stories that haven't been done in the original.
The Swan Princess: In this African American twist set in a disco roller rink called The Pond, Odette, granddaughter of legendary MC The Swan King, receives his prized helmet but must keep it away from an evil witch (or so he calls ol' Miss Brewster). To make matters worse the town councilman R.J. Rothbart wants to make Odette his bride and hatches a scheme with his sister Odile to close the rink for good.
The Goose Girl: in this Ancient Egyptian take on the classic German fairytale, the daughter of the pharaoh is tricked by her advisor who swaps places with her. The Princess gathers all her wit and a few unlikely allies to end the deception.
The Red Shoes: in this story with a Southern Gospel flavor, the daughter of a preacher wants to go out with her friends instead of helping with an important event. When she spends donation money on a pair of shoes, she ends up on a journey that teaches her the meaning of charity and responsibility.
Gilgamesh and Enkidu: In this Mesopotamia legend, the arrogant warrior Gilgamesh meets his match in the humble Enkidu. A Story of good sportsmanship, friendship, and the importance of valuing life.
Eros and Psyche: in this Afro-Mediterranean fusion of the beloved myth, Psyche, a princess, cares for an mysterious & injured man. But after Psyche makes terrible mistakes she must earn back his trust by going through seemingly impossible tasks.
Romeo and Juliet: In this 80s rock n' roll take on the Shakespearean tale, the Montagues and Capulets are two warring music dynasties called the Monty and the Goos, & the Capital Letters respectively. The new generation of singers develop a crush on each other but will their new love overcome old hate?
The Wild Cranes: In this take on the Wild Swans set amidst the backdrop of the Gullah islands, a young girl must find a way to turn her 12 brothers back into human after they were turned into cranes.
John Henry: in the classic American Folktale set during the Great Migration, John Henry, a railroad worker, uses his kindness, wits and super strength to help families move up North.
Snow White and Rose Red: In this Romani take on the German story, Snow White and Rose Red are two beekeepers who befriend a talking bear. However when a huntsman pursues the bear, Snow and Rose escapes with their friend into the woods. They seek help from a friendly troll, but is there more to the story?
The Boy Who Cried Coyote! In This take on the classic Aesop, set on the mountains of Peru, a young alpaca herder decides to play tricks by claiming there is a coyote. But he gets a well deserved lesson in honesty when his pranks go too far...
Hades and Persephone: In this retelling of the Greek myth with a dash of 90s/2000s pop music, a lonely pop idol seeks comfort in a cafe barista, unaware that she is the daughter of a health food giant.
I also have ideas for episodes featuring the Mami Wata, Anansi the spider, Paul Bunyan, the Chupacabra, & Princess Savitri.

The theme for the evening at The Mind’s Eye was gold. If you weren’t adorned with intricate gold leaves like a Grecian goddess, covered in the jewels of an ancient Pharaoh or wrapped in sparkling golden fabrics like a royal princess, you weren’t getting in—regardless of whether you had solved the obnoxious riddle at the secret passageway, or not. It wasn’t that Louie didn’t enjoy the theatrics, but the event was mostly to distract from the fact that a certain, very rare magical artefact was being traded that very evening. It’s recipient a wanted felon, at that. It wasn’t an uncommon occurrence for something illegal to be happening at the illusive jazz bar that might land him in Zamok, but Louie wanted to make enough of a spectacle that no one would much care about a dusty old box being traded in the corner of the room.
The dancer’s lifted their arms, swishing the lengths of gold chiffon that coated their arms as the singer swelled in chorus. The saxophone player accompanied him, and Louie slipped through the busy bar to take a seat. All seemed to be going smoothly, as expected. The Mind’s Eye wouldn’t have been such a success if Louie didn’t seem to get away with everything. “What’s not to like?” Louie asked the stranger, who he thought he had heard muttering something about their golden attire, and passed them a drink of something as equally gold in colour.

Miitopia : The Golden Warriors Master Post
(Originally posted on my old art blog. You will see the watermarks of the old blog in the comic.)
Fandom : Miitopia, Gyllene Tider, Roxette Status :  Ongoing
Miitopia - The Golden Warriors is a fan comic of Miitopia crossovers with 2 Swedish bands with the same one front man, Roxette and Gyllene Tider ( pronounced “yil-le-ne-tee-der”). Based on their appearances in 2013 - 2015. Inspired from my Miitopia gameplay on Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch. (Including a Swedish musician, Niklas Strömstedt as the Great Sage in the gameplay and this comic.)
Even though there are new contents added in Nintendo Switch version. The comic still based on Nintendo 3DS version. It may be some additional content especially for my own headcanon. But there will be no horse...^^; The comic started on November 2017 as a quick traditional sketchy comic. Then it became a serious comic series in later chapters. The comic format changed to be digital in Karkaton arc. I usually work on this comic when I have a free time. It will be delayed sometime because of my full-time jobs or having breaks from physical/mental health. And tragically, two of the musicians, in real life and had been added to Miitopia main team, had passed away when Realm of The Fey arc was in progress. They are dear Marie Fredriksson, the lead singer of Roxette, who had fought her illness for 17 years and passed away in late 2019. And the Roxette drummer, Pelle Alsing in late 2020. Their musical legend will be remembered and this fan comic will be dedicated to them.
The joyride in Miitopia continued... *This fan comic is totally has got game’s spoilers. For those who is playing this game, please make sure that you had already beat the game.
Please DO NOT save, repost and copy my comic!!

So, long ass plane rides means getting bored and watching questionable movies, right?
The other day, @73kittens and I were bored and decided to watch a movie called Mummies. And within 30 seconds we were absolutely tearing it apart. Yes it’s a kids movie. Yes I’m gonna judge the hell outta it.
So, without further ado, enjoy this summary/review of the movie where we kept needing to pause bc we were so confused or laughing too hard.
Plot tldr before we begin: mummies living in a secret mummy city, arranged marriage, enemies to lovers, an important ring is stolen and shenanigans ensue to get it back.
So the movie opens with a chariot race cause our main dude, Thut, is a charioteer. Immediately I paused and turned to @carlscookies and went “that’s not accurate is it?” The answer is no! It was a Greek styled chariot race! Taking place in Ancient Egypt! So we’re off to a great start in the historical accuracy category lol (Side note, the first time I saw his name spelled (no subtitles), I thought his name was thot lol)
After that is some tomb raider stuff. Oh and magic bullshit, where we get introduced to the concept of a mummy city. “It’s a wannabe Atlantis, set in modern day, with a vaguely mummy aesthetic” - kitten #42
So we catch up with Thut, who is famous for his chariot shenanigans, has what I think is PTSD from the accident shown in the first scene, and is getting flirted with by all the lovely ladies, leading to the lovely exchange: “Why haven’t you settled down yet?” “Cause marriage is forever, and mummies live forever.”
Remember that last bit, it’ll become relevant many times over.
So next historical inaccuracy is the produce. Aka they had lettuce and tomatoes and onions. At which point we paused and made our fourth (Brendan get a tumblr so I can tag you) who had wifi look up the main produce of ancient egypt
Spoiler alert: not lettuce and tomatoes and onions.
And this is all before we meet our lovely female lead, a princess whose name I cannot remember. She’s snuck out of her palace, and despite it feeling like she’s done this before, she still has trouble sneaking back in. “It seemed like the kind of thing she does all the time and yet this is her first time sneaking out despite the fact that she’s been a mummy for two thousand years” -kitten #37
After she gets back in, she fights with her dad the pharaoh. He wants her to get engaged, she just wants to be a singer. Singing is not for princesses apparently, and she has to get engaged/married before her dad steps down as pharaoh. Side note, why does her dad have to step down as pharaoh? It’s been established they live forever, can’t he just be pharaoh forever?? I’m so confused???
Fun quotes from this bit: “The 2000s are basically the new 1000s” “I need at least a hundred more years before I can think about engagement”
Phoenixes appear to choose a fiancé for the princess. And I immediately thought “fire and mummies do not mix”
Anyhoot, phoenix gets shot down by Thut’s little brother (henceforth known as demon child) and “chooses” Thut to be the fiancé. And his immediate response is “I’m allergic to marriage!” “I love how the lady’s immediate response to you hearing that if he backs out, his eyes and tongue get cut out that it’s only an eternity” -kitten #32
So you have two willfully single people who absolutely hate the idea of marriage but refuse to back down, so they end up yelling stuff like “Yeah, well I can’t wait to love you forever and hold you and cherish you!” In very angry voices lol
When Thut leaves the palace, the demon child goes “I was afraid they were gonna execute you!” Which. What is death in this universe??? They live forever but the pharaoh has decided to step down as pharaoh and mummies can be executed?????? Do mummies age or do children stay children forever??????? I need answers movie
(Spoiler alert: we get none :/ )
(We also got on a tangent while writing this about “what do mummies do to “start a family”???” “When their parents get to the mummy afterlife, do you transfer that child to their biological parents or is it just first come, first served?” - kitten #4 “They could just have the little brother as their surrogate child. Wait a second, where are his parents????” - kitten #14)
So when the engagement happened Thut got a very important ring that he can not lose. You probably know where we’re going with this. He goes and puts it in a very safe place where nothing can happen to it.
And then tomb raiders break in and steal the ring. Surprise surprise. What is a surprise is that, when Thut discovers the theft, he immediately goes “This could only be the work of livings!” Which, I’m sorry, does this happen often???? “Maybe it does, maybe that’s why they know English!” -kitten #66 (the devil’s advocate kitten)
This is also when we learn that the secret mummy city was created to protect mummies from the living. Leading to the only obvious conclusion: the mummy city was created to stop the British from eating them (true facts, look it up)
But also: were they sentient before the city was made? Did they just hang out in their tombs, lonely forever except for those who got buried with all of their slaves? Is this why mummies sleep, cause otherwise they’d get bored? I just keep getting more questions and so very little answers. “How do they know that it’s there? How would they get the word out that there’s a mummy city? Are they telepathic? No cause then they’d know why he doesn’t wanna get married. How do they know where the other mummies are buried?” -kitten #50
At this point I basically stopped taking notes (though we did keep pausing to ask many of the same questions), so time to skim through the rest of the movie real fast
Thut and demon child go to the land of the living to get the ring back, princess follows, shenanigans happen, they end up in modern day London, hijack a production of Aida (that hurt my frickin soul because I’ve done that show), princess becomes a pop star (yay for her, but omg the song and its name were so boring), gets kidnapped by tomb raider, Thut also gets kidnapped when trying to save her, demon child saves them both and gets the ring back, and they go back to Egypt and the mummy city yaaaay
Except there’s still a solid half hour in the movie. It ain’t over yet lol
But imma spin off on a tangent for a moment about princess and her pop star life. Because the movie has us on the fence for a while about whether or not she’s gonna go back to the mummy city. Which in any other movie, is a fair dilemma. Except she’s dead. And I feel there’s some sort of ethical implications for a mummy trying to live the life of a typical teenage pop star. Also. Ma’am get better tunes lmao
Alrighty, tangent done, time to skim the last bit
Thut and princess have finally realized they like each other, which means we’re in the miscommunication part of the enemies-to-lovers trope. So they go their separate ways, both miserable but thinking the other doesn’t love them, until the tomb raiders break into the mummy city. They work together to save the city and the pharaoh, Thut has a dramatic “I love you” moment before sacrificing himself to take out the tomb raiders (and once again raising the question can mummies die????) except this is a kid's movie so of course he survives and they get married and princess gets to sing so wahoo happy endings all around.
And an insane amount of bafflement in row 32 of that plane lol
Now, is this a bad movie? In the context of it being a kid's movie, it's not terrible. It's a fun little adventure if you can turn your brain off and just accept the story for what it is.
But for those of us with more brain power than your average male orange cat, the worldbuilding holes lurking just under the veneer of plot are large enough to fuckin cave dive in, such as:
the aforementioned "What is death in this universe?????"
Why do mummies need to sleep/eat?
Where tf do they get the food from, since they're underground and (presumably) can't grow it themselves
How did they build the mummy city? (Slave mummies? probably slave mummies) How are other mummies supposed to find it/get there once they're buried?
Why does the pharaoh have to step down if he lives forever? What about the other pharaohs? Are there multiple mummy cities for each or do they each just rule a portion of the one city?
Do children age? (Probably not) How does custody of children mummies work? Where are the demon child's parents???
Is magic a thing in this universe? Cause that would answer several questions, but honestly I saw about 0 evidence for magic other than, ya know, living mummies. Which just says necromancy, not other types of magic.
Movie you are way too shallow to be playing with the idea of "Immortal (dead) girl trying to live a normal teenage life"
But hey, at least it was some sort of entertaining for the like 2 hours we spent watching it and the multiple times we kept remembering it and getting into debates afterwards lol
Tldr: Don't watch kid's movies as an adult unless you're ready to just be constantly questioning everything. And/or you're a parent and therefore have to watch along with your kiddo lol

Azir’s historical reenactment
A few months have passed since Azir has been captured by Xerath and forced to build him a temple. He’s still defiant and proud, relishing in his armor of bloodline. “He’s but a raging Baccai, but I’m Emperor Omah Azir. I’m of imperial blood, and this makes me strong. There’s nothing he can do to tarnish my pride.”
Xerath, of course, knows Azir finds solace in him being an emperor. And the best way to put in his thick skull that 1. Emperors aren’t as great as he thinks and 2. He’s not an emperor anymore, but a lowly wretch who deserves nothing but pain and pity is through a field he’s very well versed in: history.
One day, as Azir’s eyes readjust to the sunny desert after another night in that godforsaken falconry hood, he notices a bunch of scrolls next to the throne room of his tormentor. Since he cannot speak he doesn’t ask what those are, but something tells him that it will not bring him solace – and sure enough.
That’s when Xerath imposes on Azir the request to kiss his hand whenever he’s fed. Azir first pecks it in defiance, but Xerath is ready – he has his prisoner strung up with chains on a huge wooden cross, underneath the scorching sun, yelping of pain for the burns and with his eyes directly aimed at the searing lights.
For three days.
“Remember this, Azir? You had a fondness for crosses, back then. Apparently this is how you dispose of those who don’t agree with your commands. I learned from the best… of the worst.”
He also forces Azir to keep his head bowed at all times, locking him into a custom-made pillory until he stops keeping it high in defiance. Whenever Azir raises his head, blasts of magic sear through his body. Somehow he prefers to watch him do it on his own once he’s learned the posture.
The cage where Azir is to sleep is inside a cavern in the sandstone cave, to increase his isolation, but when it rains – it’s rare but it can happen – he has Azir out in the sand, getting every drop. And if you know how cold leather can get in the rain – my legs can attest – you can imagine by yourself what cold wet leather on your HEAD feels like.
“You wonder why, Azir? Because I can. Because you’re nothing and I command you, and your kin showed me what command tastes like on the wrong foot. Now you savor it, Azir. I have ancestors too, you see… and they are cheering for this moment.”
One time he pours honey on his feathers, so the bugs may teem on him and make his workday miserable. Azir is pretty sure he swallowed a couple; in the following days he finds maggots in his wounds and almost pukes from disgust, dissociating until Xerath slaps him back into the world.
(apparently that’s a thing a real-life Pharaoh, Pepi the 2nd, would do to avoid the flies swarming on him)
Azir gets the final sting one dreadful night, where Xerath forces his infested, molting, exhausted, pained prisoner to sing a celebratory song to imperial power. A song he’d hear in his old life, sung to his father and then to himself, back when people cheered for him and worshipped the very ground he walked upon.
Azir was once a talented singer, but his throat is so sore and his mind so vacant, the melody is hardly recognizable as itself. That’s not him anymore: there’s no golden glory in his body, no crowd to applaud him, no comfort in the familiar words.
When the song is done, tears stain Azir’s feathery cheeks and Xerath seems amused.
“So, what have we learned?”
“That emperors are folly, my lord.”
“Yes they are. All of them. But… are you an emperor, Azir?”
He hiccups, tears forming brown circles on the sand next to his talons. Xerath has never made him cry for anything that wasn’t physical pain before.
“No, my lord. Not anymore.”
“So don’t ever expect me or anyone else to treat you like one, because that would be stupid even for you. Now back into your cage: I don’t want to see you for the rest of the day.”
[this is totally getting a part II because real life history is a treasure trove of “absolute rulers doing crazy stuff”]

On July 17th 2009 the singer/songwriter Gordon Waller and one half of the duo Peter & Gordon passed away.
Waller, the son of a surgeon, was born in Braemar, and went to Westminster school, in London, where he met Peter Asher in 1959. Asher was already something of a jazz and blues fan, but Waller persuaded him to broaden his horizons to include pop and rock'n'roll. Both were keen guitarists and soon they were entertaining their fellow students. By 1963, they were playing (initially as Gordon and Peter) in pubs and small clubs at lunchtimes and evenings for small fees or for a meal, often singing their own compositions in the close harmony style of the Everly Brothers. Early in 1964, they were booked for a two-week engagement at the Pickwick nightclub. One of the diners was Norman Newell, an EMI record producer. Newell was charmed enough by Peter and Gordon’s rendition of their song If I Were You to offer them a recording contract.
At this time, McCartney was dating Jane, and Peter and Gordon badgered McCartney to provide them with a song. He obliged with A World Without Love, which he had written six years earlier in Liverpool. McCartney told his biographer Barry Miles: “Gordon was a lot of fun – he was slightly less academic than Peter. It was he who persuaded Peter to jump school to do lunchtime sessions.”
By the end of March 1964, A World Without Love had displaced the Beatles’ own Can’t Buy Me Love at the top of the charts. In May, just before Waller’s 19th birthday and Asher’s 20th, it was the biggest selling record in the US. The instant stardom created by A World Without Love was the beginning of two years of frantic activity for Peter and Gordon.
For the American media, they combined the cachet of a Beatles connection (McCartney wrote several more of their hits and fans discerned in Waller a slight resemblance to John Lennon) There were numerous television appearances, occasional tours of Japan and Australia as well as North America and dozens of recordings. In the next 12 months, Nobody I Know and I Don’t Want to See You Again (both by McCartney) were transatlantic hits, as were I Go To Pieces, written by Del Shannon, and True Love Ways, a Buddy Holly song the duo had performed in their early days in London.
By now, Peter and Gordon were competing in North America with numerous other British imports, including another middle-class duo, Chad and Jeremy. Their star began to wane in 1966, when their only hits were Woman, another McCartney composition credited pseudonymously to “Bernard Webb”, and Lady Godiva, a novelty number that was denounced as obscene by the mayor of Coventry, which helped it reach the Top 20 in Britain and the American Top 10. By 1967, Peter and Gordon’s British career was over and in America they were reduced to peddling olde English material such as the minor hit The Knight in Rusty Armour and the album Sunday for Tea. They split up the next year, with Asher joining the Beatles’ Apple project as an A&R man and Waller launching a career as a solo singer.
Despite the fact that he had been the stronger vocalist of the pair, this career was stillborn. A handful of singles were issued, plus a 1970 album of his own compositions called Gordon. He left showbusiness to run a landscape gardening business in Northamptonshire until, in 1971, he took the part of Pharaoh in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, the musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.
In the 1980s and 90s Waller ran a music publishing business in America. In the last few years of his life, he reunited with Asher to play a few shows in Los Angeles, the Philippines and New York.
