Bindi update

A few weeks ago I talked with my vet about possible options to treat her pain. Right now she is on the max dose of gabapentin they prescribed her, and I just started amantadine. I’ve got meloxicam coming in the mail. Amantadine apparently takes a week to take effect and it’s been four days and I see no improvement.

There were some other options that the vet gave me but they are all progressively more expensive. They also won’t renew the meloxicam prescription without doing bloodwork first.

Bindi is bright and cheerful, has a good appetite, initiates play, and loves to train. But she is in a lot of pain. Sometimes she can barely walk. She cannot go down my stairs without falling so I carry her down multiple times a day.

If the meloxicam works I might push back on the bloodwork because... this is a twelve year old dog. She has had medical issues her entire life. I’m already spending $100 per month on allergy meds. If the meloxicam brings her relief but causes liver failure, then at least her remaining time was pain-free.

If the amantadine/meloxicam combo doesn’t work, I’m going to talk to my vet about PTS. I cannot let her continue to live in this amount of pain. I don’t want her to lose her spark.

Edit:  Thank you for the suggestions, I appreciate them. I am not really looking for advice. This is just an update on how things are going with Bindi. I am in communication with my vet.
