I cannot believe how far my girl Madalena has been getting in thar Girl Failure bracket. Like, the other brackets have unhinged queens like Shiv Roy, Fleabag, Eleanor Shellstropp, CERSEI LANNISTER!! And among them is just, her. My precious baby. My absolutely unhinged, narcissistic, vain, delusional, MYTHIC BITCH of a character Queen Madalena. She left her boyfriend to marry a rich king who kidnapped her. She made that king her bitch. She made his henchmen her bitch. She murdered her way to the throne. She was excited to kill a baby for dark powers. She has lost her mind and is living for it. Her sense of dress is impeccable. She DESERVES to be among these rankings. But also Galavant as a show was much too short-lived and not enough people are aware of her as a character so I’m just so happy to see her get her dues.

If I had a nickel for every time my favourite character was a poor girl in love who got the attention of a king, betrayed her boyfriend for the better life the king offers just to then become really power hungry, an evil queen and ruler in her own right overthrowing said king and she learned how to use magic and she also has a super sweet love story I would have two nickels.

I know 'evil aromantic' isn't great representation, but I'm STILL disappointed that Madalena fell in love with Gareth.

This was such relatable dialog, it made her getting mean after he keeps pressuring her cathartic:

King Richard: There was a moment tonight. It was a fleeting moment, but I saw it. You realized you could grow to love me.

Madalena: Oh, would you please stop putting me in this position? Don't make me always have to be the bad guy.

And 'I Love You (As Much As Someone Like Me Could Love Anyone)' just SPEAKS to me.

Watched Galavant recently and enjoyed it a lot. Have some thoughts about it, like how the characters we're introduced to in the first song begin the series vs how they end it.

Galavant: Starts out being rejected in favor of social advancement and abandoning questing out of heartbreak, ends marrying someone above his station and retiring from adventuring to live a quiet life together.

Richard: First and last episode both have him marry a commoner (well implied and off-screen in the last), except with Madalena it was by force and she only agreed for status, while Bobby was willing and stuck by him even when he lost his royal status.

Madalena: Both begins and ends the story choosing power over love, but now the choice is one that hurts her.
