The Piece That Doesn't Fit

Derek Hale x Sarah McCall

Timeline: After the last episode of Teen Wolf: Season 2

Derek's POV-

Sarah sleeps in my arms peacefully. Idly stroking her arm, I look at the ceiling and then back at her head, which is lying on my chest. I wonder what she thinks when she looks at me. I wonder why she trusts me. I kiss her head, whatever the reason is, I'm grateful that she does.

Gerard is dying, quite fast compared to cancer, according to what Chris said. He deserves it. I'm not big on forgiveness, and I haven't forgiven Allison either, but that's a story for another day. Everything else in the world can wait, I just want to be here with Sarah.

I have no one in my pack now, I realise. It's only Isaac, but he's more loyal to Scott. And I don't want to fight with Scott again, not after I've seen what it does to Sarah. Being torn between her brother and her boyfriend isn't the best place to be, and she used to be so frustrated and angry at everything.

Words flash into my mind for the hundredth time after the fight, words belonging to Gerard Argent. I'd rather never think of the bastard, but what he said feels like it's true.

"Scott, don't. You know that he's gonna kill me right after. He'll be an Alpha." I plead. Scott doesn't listen. He walks towards me determinedly, and Sarah yells, "Scott stop!" She tries to run towards us but the kanima throws Allison to the ground and grabs Sarah's throat instead.

My own death doesn't scare me more than that monster's hand around Sarah's throat. She isn't giving up, though. My brave, strong woman. My heavenly fire, she isn't giving up even in the face of imminent death.

"That's true... But I think he already knows that, don't you, Scott?" Gerard says, smirking. "He knows that the ultimate prize is Allison. Do this small task for me, and they can be together."

Sarah looks at her brother with disbelief, her eyes slowly flood with tears. "Scott...don't." She chokes. But her brother doesn't stop. He walks towards me, and I've never imagined a day where I'm afraid of Scott. But today is that day.

"Scott if anything happens to Derek, I'll never forgive you!" Sarah shouts, tears streaming down her beautiful face.

I try to reach for her, but can't. Listening to my name from her mouth feels like a declaration of love, and the fact that she's willing to go against her own brother for me makes me feel more loved than I have ever been. But it also makes me feel shameful. She's going against her brother for me.

Scott gives her a pleading look before sinking his claws in my neck. I groan in pain as he hauls me up.

"How very touching," Gerard says, looking at Sarah with malice. "You are the only piece that doesn't fit, Derek. And, in case you haven't learned yet, there is just no competing with young love." He spits at me.

Scott forces me to bite Gerard's arm and drops me to the cold ground. But I never hit it because two soft yet strong arms wrap around me, cushioning my fall. I collapse in Sarah's arms, resting my head on her shoulder. Sarah holds me tightly and whispers, "Don't worry. I'm here for you."

She is. I wrap both arms around her, inhaling her scent. She is here for me. She shouldn't be. What have I ever done to deserve her?

That's the same thought in my head as I reel out of the memory and look at her again. She stirs as if woken by the gravity of thoughts. Holding me tighter, she doesn't have to even look at me before saying, "Can't sleep?"

I pretend to be asleep, but she says, "Don't pretend. I may not be a werewolf but I can detect when you're not asleep."

"Fine," I grumble, turning to my side so that I'm spooning her now. "I can't sleep. Happy?" I kiss her shoulder and inhale her scent of vanilla and jasmine.

"Of course, I'm not 'happy'." She says, turning around to look at me. "Tell me why you're awake. You're supposed to be asleep."

"I know." I sigh, "I was watching you sleep."

"Right. And that's not creepy at all."

I laugh. "You look beautiful when you sleep. Your mouth's slightly open, and you hold me close to yourself. Of course, I'd love to see that."

Sarah blushes. Even after we've been together for months, she still blushes every time I say something romantic to her. She pulls a straight face again, and says, "Hey! You can't distract me by being romantic. Tell me, what's keeping you awake?"

"Nothing," I say, shrugging. She doesn't believe me. "I'm not stupid, Der."

"It's nothing, Sarah." I say, "Go back to sleep."

"I will once you do." She says adamantly.

Even when I don't want to, I turn my back on her, facing the other side. She hugs me from behind and says, "Tell me. What's bothering my Sourwolf?"

Stiles Fucking Stilinski. He gave me that nickname long ago and Sarah loved how mad I got because of it. So much so that even she calls me that.

I don't get mad at her when she calls me that, but still, it's obnoxious.

"Is it what Gerard said?" She asks, and my silence gives her the answer.

"Der, look at me." She says. I turn around and she kisses me. I kiss her back, pulling her on top of me. She breaks the kiss and lays her head on my chest again. I sigh contentedly.

"He was wrong when he said that," She murmurs, and I shake my head, "Was he? I think he was right. I don't fit among you guys, Sarah. I don't fit in Scott's perfect pack, not the traumatised, rude wolf, no."

Sarah doesn't say anything for a long time, and I almost think she has fallen asleep. But then she says, "Not yet."

I scoff. "You think's Scott gonna wanna want me as his ally? After we've been hating each other for months?"

"If there's anything my brother excels at, it's forgiveness." Sarah says slowly, "You may not be a part of Scott's pack, but that doesn't make you insignificant, Der."

I'm sure that she does not want to see me wallow in self-pity, but I can't help but say, "Gerard said otherwise."

"Since when do you take the old hog hag's words seriously?" She chides and I almost laugh. She's right, I shouldn't take Gerard seriously. But I cannot help it. I can't help but doubt if his words are true. Sarah would never let me believe it, but I do feel insignificant.

I turn around, and hug her. What would I do without her? When I came back to Beacon Hills, my sole purpose and focus was finding out who killed Laura, and leaving immediately after.

But then I saw two boys trudging around my house, one of them too noisy and the other wheezing from asthma. When the latter lost his inhaler, I had hoped that he wouldn't come back. I don't want anyone near my house.

But they did. And not just them this time, with them was a woman. Great, I had said to myself, I did not script in more guests. But then I saw her face, only from afar, but my breath was stolen out of my lungs. After a long time, I found myself smiling.

Sarah tries not to fall asleep, and I kiss her. She kisses me back and gives me a goofy smile. But then her face turns serious again.

"Gerard did whatever damage he could." She says grimly, "He said what he wanted to. And Derek, there are going to be people in your life who'll say some pretty mean shit to you."

"And I should rip their throat out." I say nonchalantly and she rolls her eyes, "No. How many people would you kill?" She asks me, and doesn't wait for an answer, "You know what, I actually don't wanna know."

I chuckle and she smiles at me softly.

"My point is," She says, "People talk. One day about one person, and the next day about the other. You cannot silence everyone. You cannot control what you hear, but you can control what you listen to."

I blink. That was a very heavy statement.

"Don't listen to people who don't care about you." She shrugs, "Listen to those who actually care about you."

"Like who?" I tease, stroking her thigh.

"Oh, fuck you." She yawns, "I'm sleepy. Not tonight."

I laugh. As much as I would like to tear our clothes apart and bury myself inside her, she's right. Even I'm getting sleepy.

"And just because someone said something doesn't make it necessarily true." She says and kisses my cheek. "I know it's easy to talk about all of this and much more difficult to actually implement it, you have to try."

Her hair fan her face, and I stroke them away as I plant a kiss on her head. There she is. My paramour. Capable of understanding me.

I keep her hand on my heart, wishing that she'd be able to feel what I cannot say. Feel what runs through my veins, feel that every single beat of my heart calls her name.

She's right. As much as I still feel like an oddball, I feel different with Sarah. With her in my arms, I feel like I'm home. I feel that I fit in, in her company. In her arms. In her life.

Outer Banks x Teen Wolf PT.1

"Mom I'm not moving to the Outer Banks."

"Yes, you are. You and Scott will both be killed if you stay in Beacon Hills."

A week later, you stood before your cousin Kies's house as your uncle carried your bags to your room. You moved to Outer Banks and Scott moved out of Beacon Hills but is still in California. You and Kiara didn't see each other much, only on holidays, but you two kept in touch, texting almost every day considering you were the only girls in the family close to age.

"So why'd your mom ship you off to Outer Banks?" Kie asked sitting on your bed as you started to unpack your clothes. "Financial problems." You shrugged, this was the lie your mom decided to come up with knowing she couldn't tell the truth about why you were moving. "Well I'm super happy you're here! I'll help you unpack so I can give you a tour of the island." Kie hung up your clothes as you organized everything on your dresser and hung up photos.

"Where'd Scott move to?" She asked looking at the photographs of you, your mom, and Scott. "He moved more towards the North of California, he's working as a vet with his old boss." You threw on your shoes since a majority of unpacking was done. "Alright, I'm taking you out to a party put something sexy on." She winked closing the door before you could object so you picked out a cute sexy outfit opening the door to show Kiara which she approved of. You did your makeup quickly then lightly curled your hair making them look like beach waves. "You look hot let's go." She grabbed your arm you slipping your shoes on quickly then following her outside where a van with a bunch of people was waiting.

"Ready to meet the Pogues?" She smiled at you as you left the house and started walking. "The Pogues?" "You'll see." She chuckles opening the van door the smell of marijuana immediately filling your nose. "That would be because of JJ," Kiara mentioned gesturing to a blonde boy with black sunglasses upside of his face with a joint in his mouth. "I'm only okay with it if he passes me one." "I like you." JJ pointed handing you to the joint to which you took a medium size hit. You passed it back to JJ not wanting to keep it for long and you blew the smoke into the corner of the van trying to be respectful.

"John B is the one driving, Sarah in the passenger seat, Pope, Cleo, and JJ."

"Where'd you move here from?" Pope asked smacking JJ in the head for blowing the smoke in his face and you giggled. "I'm from California." You answered playing with the rings on your fingers, one of them a little silver wolf ring(the one you played with the most.) "What brought you all the way out over here?" "Family things." You shrugged to which they didn't ask any more questions. "Watch out for the Kooks. They're wild." JJ jokingly warned as you guys stepped out of the van.

"How do I know who is who?"

"You'll know a kook when you see one." He smiled leading the way into the party Kiara taking you to the kitchen mixing you both a fruity drink. You noticed a blonde that kept stealing glances at you and you started to blush when you noticed how hot he was. "So tell me about you and JJ. You two were close in the van." You wiggled your eyebrows at her knowing about her crush on him. "We've kissed a few times, and maybe fooled around." She giggled swirling her drink around and you nudged her arm with your elbow.

"How about you huh? Any guy in your life?" You glanced to your side at the blonde to catch him staring at you and you shook your head no. "Used to be but uh not anymore." The thought of your ex-boyfriend Isaac dying in your arms flooded your mind but you decided to drink the memory away. "I will be back soon, I'm gonna go to the bathroom," Kie yelled over the music and you nodded making yourself another drink. You walked over to the Pogues sitting on the log next to Sarah.

You still felt the boy's gaze on you but you decided to ignore it and get to know the group better. They were telling you stories of their adventures and how they are trying to find gold from the Royal Merchant. "What about you? Any adventures in Beacon Hills?" John B asked making you bite the inside of your cheek. "No not really. Beacon Hills is kinda quiet." You lied looking around the party and mentally cheering when seeing Kiara walking over. Your lifesaver.

After a few more hours at the party, Sarah thankfully suggested it was time to go and everyone agreed. You all headed to John Bs house getting a look at the cut. "Welcome to the Cut and the Chateau." John B smiled getting out of the van and standing in front of his house with his arms open. JJ lit a fire, and you all sat around, playing 20 questions. Sooner or later you passed out on the hammock you were swinging on, Kiara throwing a blanket over you and heading to sleep herself.

The next morning you woke up to see the gang hanging on the porch of the Chateau and you decided to join them taking a seat next to Cleo. "Hey John B do you mind if I borrow a bike to ride back to Kies house?" You asked looking at the two old-looking bikes and not wanting to bother him for a ride home. "Yeah, you're good go for it, do you want a ride back?" He asked kindly. "Oh no it's okay, I need the exercise anyway." You laughed.

"I'm gonna stay here," Kie informed you and you nodded and smiled not expecting her to ditch her normal routine just because you were here. "You're more than welcomed back later." John B invited. "Thank you, I will definitely take you up on that. It was nice meeting you all!" You waved as everyone said bye and you got on the bike to start your ride home. You were enjoying the warm breeze on your skin looking down at your phone to pick out a song. You arrived home dressing in a pink workout set. You put on your sneakers putting your hair up grabbing your headphones and going for a run.

After about thirty minutes you stopped by The Wreck to grab a smoothie smiling at your aunt and uncle as you walked in. "Hey sweetie, what can I get ya?" Your aunt asked as you went up to the bar. "Just a strawberry banana smoothie please." You tried to pay for the smoothie but she refused and you thanked her heading to a table outside to enjoy the warmth. "This seat taken?" You heard a deep voice ask and you looked up to see the guy who was staring at you from the party. He was hot as hell and it intimidated you a bit but you didn't let it show. "Nope, all yours." You smiled. "I haven't seen you around here, did you just move?" The stranger asked taking a sip of his beer.

"Yeah moved here yesterday." You took in his appearance and you could tell he was definitely a kook. "My names Rafe. Rafe Cameron." "Y/N. Y/N McCall." You giggled and Rafe smiled thinking it was the cutest thing in the world. You guys talked until he said he had to go to meet his friends for golf. You guys exchanged numbers making a plan to hang out that night. "Rafe Cameron huh?" Your aunt raised her eyebrows at you sitting in the seat he previously occupied. "You know him?" "Everyone knows him. He's the kook king." "Well, I got myself a date with the kook king."

What can I say? Tangle & Whisper's mini-series had me by the balls. Can't wait to dive into the Metal Virus. In any case, here's a voice cast I've had in mind when reading the comic original characters:

"Christine Marie Cabanos as Tangle The Lemur" - Many fan casters tend to focus on Tangle as a sporty tomboy and think of a raspy voice not unlike Rainbow Dash or Amethyst. This isn't bad but I found myself thinking outside the box when I was revisiting Kill La Kill and its bombass dub at the time. Christine's Mako Makanshoku had just the kind of energy and cocksure that Tangle would have as a rookie to the Resistance.

Mind you, she would even out the pitch to sound closer to a young adult/older teen that the characters tend to (mostly) come across as but no less hyperactive like Mako when the moment calls for it. Additionally, Christine could dip more into her Madoka Kaname performance to capture her more emotional side, particularly when Whisper lets her in on what happened to the Diamond Cutters. It would make for a great range that toes the line just like Tangle has in terms of being somewhat obnoxious but not in a "Scrappy Doo" kind of way.

"Erica Mendez as Whisper The Wolf" - Erica would play her not too unlike her soft-spoken Retsuko (barring Heavy Metal scenes played by an actual Heavy Metal singer) but in a consistently hushed tone. However, moments where she's emotionally devastated like fearing losing Tangle or... losing Tangle would be where her performances as Atsuko Kagari from Little Witch Academia and Gon from Hunter X Hunter come in.

"Todd Haberkorn as Dr. Starline The Platypus" - Todd's performance as Death The Kid shows a very balanced performance between his more goofy side and serious, grounded side, one that would apply well to the campy Dr. Starline. It would work well with his raising of Surge and Kit with his callous use of his Hypno Glove.

"Sarah Anne Williams as Surge The Tenrec" - Anybody who's heard her performance as Nonon Jakuzure and Tifa from FFVII Machinamabridged will know that Sarah can do punk. She just needs to ramp up the gruffness if only to see Surge as a homegrown teenage with major issues.

"Johnny Yong Bosch as Kitsunami The Fennec" - Johnny may be known for his Super Saiyans, bounty hunters on the run and Anime pretty boys but his performance as Doraemon's Nobita as well as Yokai Watch's Nate shows that he can do timid young boy. Kit being the Tails to Surge's Sonic makes it a perfect fit.

"Cherami Leigh Kuehn as Jewel The Beetle" - A similar beleagured tone of voice to Lucy Heartfilia but with an light English accent, a total contrast to Tangle's character. A way to mask it for future performances given Sonic's big cast.

Dear streaming services and broadcast channels; sapphic representation is important too…

When I think back to my baby gay days, there are a lot of difficult memories, heartbreak, rejection, and lonely moments. However, some of my happier moments, those glimmers of feeling safe and normal in a world that so often made me feel the opposite, came from media representation. Back in 2010 there wasn’t anywhere near the level of sapphic media representation that there is now, but there was enough.

I was more blessed than those born just a few years before me. I have a friend who is just five years older than me, and for her there was one sapphic media representation she could relate to- just one.

Coronation Street’s Sophie and Sian and Skins’ Naomi and Emily were my saving Grace. It might seem extreme, but I would sometimes count the hours down to be home from school to watch either of these. I’d spent six hours wanting to crawl inside a hole and feeling that I was carrying a secret that everyone secretly knew and hated me for. Yet I could go home and immerse myself into someone’s else’s relationship that made mine feel so much more normal. I don’t doubt that media representation saved my life in more ways than one, and for that I have so much to thank broadcasters for. However there is a hidden dark side to sapphic representation on TV.

While no one can deny that sapphic and wlw media representation has become much more common over time. The bizzare trends that seem to curse sapphic characters are ongoing.

Let’s start with the original trend, referred to as #buryyourgays and essentially outlining the frequency at which lesbian and bisexual characters were killed off in popular tv shows. As of February 2023, a grand total of 225 (and counting) wlw TV show characters had been killed off. I’m not going to list them all, because no one has time to read that, but I will outline the ones that hit hard (for me).

Tara - Buffy The Vampire Slayer (2002)

Tosh - Torchwood (2008)

Sarah Barnes - Hollyoaks (2009)

Cat - Lip Service (2012)

Maya - Pretty Little Liars (2012)

Naomi - Skins (2013)

Emily - Teen Wolf (2013)

Catriona - Doctors (2014)

Maddie Heath - Coronation Street (2015)

Lexa - The 100 (2016)

Nora and Mary Louise - The Vampire Diaries (2016)

Poussey - Orange is the New Black (2016)

Rana Habeeb- Coronation Street (2019)

Tina Carter - Eastenders (2020)

I mean, the list goes on…

And the impact is huge. When you are a lost and lonely youth, these characters do become your saving grace and sense of normality. As I previously mentioned, Skins had the biggest impact on my life and were actually praised by the sapphic community for appearing to break the #buryyourgays trend. So what did they do? Brought Naomi back in a one off spin off series. To kill her off. Tragically. Come on now!

British soaps. I’m a big fan. It’s a guilty pleasure! The soaps have a huge platform to spread awareness and inclusivity, and let’s be fair, they often do. However the trend remains prominent. Eastenders killed off it’s longest running lesbian character in the last couple of years. Coronation Street killed off one half of two of the three lesbian couples to be featured and Hollyoaks killed off Sarah Barnes way back in the day and are currently stabbing us all in the heart with Juliet’s upcoming death.

The British soaps are getting somewhere with their representation of male gay characters, which is good. I mean, it would be nice for it to be all communities but perhaps this means it’s coming. In fact, over its 38 years worth of episodes, Eastenders has cast an impressive 20 male gay and bisexual main characters. Compared to just 10 female lesbian and bisexual characters.

Thankfully, we have seen the #buryyourgays trend slowly come to a steady halt in the last couple of years. But there has to be a replacement hashtag right? Correct! Introducing #cancelyourgays….

In some ways this new trend is worse! I mean, it certainly boils my blood more. It has a whole new feeling of injustice about it and there is an even clearer line between the treatment of male gay shows compared to sapphic shows. Obviously straight shows are still miles ahead, I don’t expect to catch them up, but a little bit of mileage would be nice!

So now that we are in the times of streaming media, the sector saw a whole new opportunity to start cancelling shows and breaking hearts. I was a loyal Netflix fan but to say I am cross with them now, is an understatement.

Let’s start with Netflix, as I do feel they are the worst. I’m not going to list every sapphic show they have ever cancelled, it would simply take me too long. But let’s talk about the main tradegies

First kill - oh my heart. What was not to love about this show? It’s probably the hardest hit for me. Vampires, gouls, monster killers, themes of Romeo and Juliet throughout, Sarah Catherine Hook, and a lesbian couple as the leads where ‘coming out’ is not the storyline and their sexuality just happily exists in the background. It had everything in place for a huge following right? Yes! But Netflix has treated us to cancelling the show just two months after series one premiered! Netflix said it was due to a low completion rate. I haven’t seen the figures so I can’t say this isn’t accurate, but considering First Kill stormed into the top 10 within hours of it’s premiere and reached number 3 worldwide, only falling behind the huge peaky blinders and stranger things, you’d think that the figures couldn’t have been the problem. Considering the teenage hit Heart-stopper was renewed for a further two seasons despite having half the views of First Kill! Good job Heart-stopper chose to have Charlie and Nick as it’s lead and not Tara and Darcy, or it could have been a different story. Let’s not forget that First Kill’s show runner has also spoken about the lack of advertising Netflix gave to First Kill, almost like they didn’t want it to blow up.

Warrior nun - another hugely popular show. This one managed to get renewed for a season two but was cancelled shortly after the second season premiered. Netflix said it was due to viewing figures and production costs, but then again it always is…

The society - was cancelled after the first season, this time due to Covid. I mean, there is legitimacy to this as the second season was due to start filming in late 2020 but if you look deeper, Netflix absolutely did not cancel all of their series due in 2020. In fact, what was the other show to take the hit at the same time as The Society? It was I’m Not Okay With This, which is next on the list.

I’m not okay with this - what a great premise for a show! A mix of coming to terms with sexuality and the development of super powers! This show was a HUGE hit and fans thought the renewal for a season two was as secure as it could possibly be. But no. Due to ‘Covid’ Netflix cancelled it after season one. Definitely couldn’t blame views for this one’s cancellation. I Am Not Okay With This ranks at the 89.6th percentile in the Drama genre. This means I Am Not Okay With This has higher demand than 89.6% of all Drama titles in the United States. It almost doesn’t make sense? Hmm.

A Typical - I personally thought this one was absolutely safe. The sapphic storyline was by no means the main plot of the show. It focused on the life of an autistic teenager dealing with school, friends and girlfriends. But his sister had her own sapphic storyline going on in the background and the wlw community were utterly invested! In fairness to Netflix, this one got four seasons which is unheard of and is believed to have been cancelled after season four due to it coming to a natural end.

Teenage bounty hunters - cancelled after season one. Frustrating so many fans, mainly due to the fact that it ended on a huge cliffhanger! Covid was blamed here too but fans bit back with evidence that advertising was lacking it and the show got lost in the weight of all the other Netflix shows. I mean, the executive producer was Jenji Kohan who brought us Orange Is The New Black, so you’d have thought that Netflix would have been pumping it to everyone’s home screens!

Glow - 15 Emmy nominations and three wins weren’t enough to save season four of GlOW from cancellation. In fact, it was renewed for a fourth season and Netflix reversed the decision due to, you guessed it, Covid! Producers claimed that it was too tricky to film the close proximity scenes. Yet somehow they did manage to do this in every other covid time show that continued…

Gypsy - one of the quickest Netflix cancellations ever. The show had only just premiered when the plug was pulled for a season two. Most of the blame went to viewing figures. Fun fact- the dedicated fans were still battling and protesting for a season two well over a year after it’s cancellation.

Dare me - season one flew into the top 10 in 30 countries. Enough to secure a second season? Of course not. There were rumours that other streaming services were interested in picking it up for a season two, but this never happened.

Netflix are serial offenders, there is no doubting this. But it’s not just them. I can’t go as in depth with these, as I don’t want to write a whole essay, so i’m going to pick the one stand out example of each. Let’s move on to Amazon Prime and another of my heartbreaks…

The Wilds - I loved everything about this show. The diversity, the powerful female leads, the complete mix of Lost and Pretty Little Liars, there was so much to love! Gender was actually the main theme of the show but the wlw storyline between Toni and Shelby was a huge fan favourite. The Wilds returned for a season two and ended on another big cliffhanger, this and the fact that the fan base was HUGE caused fans to feel secure about a season three. But shortly after season two ended, Amazon cancelled the show. They blamed a lack of views in season two however, The Wilds ranks at the 92.7th percentile in the Drama genre. This means The Wilds has higher demand than 92.7% of all Drama titles in the United States. The reaction on the internet was crazy. After all this time, the fans continue to petition and argue for a season three.

HBO next..

Gentleman Jack - this one was a huge shocker. The period drama got two seasons and was beloved to it’s fans, gaining a hugely impressive 92% critics score and 93% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. I believe that neither HBO or BBC confirmed the reason for the cancellation but it is rumoured that it had to do with the length of time between the two seasons due to the pandemic, which could have led to a loss of viewers. Somehow, I doubt this.

Are the streaming services even aware of this pattern? Who knows. But the theme is there, in black and white. And as a sapphic female who has thankfully come out the other side of the years of self hatred, blame, isolation, and rejection, I am pleading with the streaming services to take note of this message

Dear streaming services and broadcast channels; sapphic representation is important too. Not just important but refreshing, a saving grace, a brief moment of normality, a resource, a source of education, and most important could literally save someone’s life.
