my main Tav is a bard, half-elf, she's a washed up old actress who wants no part in any of this, but she's really good at talking her way out of (and into) problems. her name is Primrose, she looks a bit like late 90s Michelle Pfeiffer, and she was born in a cardboard box all alone with nobody to love her ie. copes with loneliness by putting on a persona of being very over the top and personable and charming, bard of bards type of deal, she's an eccentric and a bit of a drunk before getting snatched, attempts to pickle her tadpole early on but it Doesn't Help and she stops drinking after that. she means well, she really does, and she tries to do the right thing even if she doesn't always know what the right thing is. she likes silly hats and bright colours. she sees a lot of herself in Gale (derogatory). romancing Shadowheart because the sad, tragic past types are her weakness. she's old and tired and just wants things to go back to normal even if she becomes increasingly aware that if they did go back to normal telling stories would never feel as good as living them.

second playthrough isn't nearly as fleshed out, she's a warlock, drow, noble, turned her back on Lolth for her Archfey patron but clings to her house and status as pillars of normalcy once she's on her own post-nautiloid. she's a lot more into lying and manipulating and intimidating her way through problems and where that fails making good on her threats and cutting her way through with brute force. superiority complex (somewhat earned) and ties to the feywilds and her patron dominate her character and decisions. no picture of Oriane as she can't access camp atm

You know what? He's going to be the second character ever that I claim eats peanut butter with a spoon directly from the jar. That headcanon is so specific and pointless that it's funny. The other one with that honor is one I used to RP from another show back when that was airing (and if you ask certain family members is literally me - someone I know might be reading knows who, but I'll leave the rest of you to guess). In Stan's case, I like to think that Shelley is very vocal about how much it pisses her off and wonders why he can't just make a sandwich lmao.

My other bitter headcanon is the feeling that Matt and Trey are going to keep his family on Tegridy for as long as possible because it's funny to them (both in terms of writing and fan reaction), but honestly kinda breaks my heart that he lives so far from the other three little guys right now.

I was about to say I'd probably have an easier time listing ways I could relate him to other people in my life - there's a couple of people I could think a lot more than myself for - but then realized there are multiple non-bad-but-just-embarrassing things I would decline to state here lmao. The joys of having a character be one of the "normal" ones, I suppose.

That being said, we're both depressed af and 10 years old was a time and a half for me mentally; so I guess that. Finishing YGO/Assburgers both made me like him as a character more and had me staring into silence for like five minutes contemplating my life on an existential level for many reasons lmao

Also growing up, I was known for liking animals and didn't want any to suffer without cause. In my case, I got super obsessed with the RSPCA and I would get called brave by girls at school at the tender age of 8 for touching worms to rescue them from drowning in pavement puddles. idk why this was considered brave, as I was in no way scared to touch worms. Lately it's been making me think that I'd like to get a pet snail again, or at least go outside a bit more again since I've always regretted feeling like I couldn't after I lost a lot of hope in my life.

The Feathertons are renowned for their voluptuous derrières. So much so that poor Cassius had the "ass" in his name emphasized all throughout his time as a student (and occasionally when women are admiring his physique). Ebony doesn't have as much of an ass compared to the other women in her family (she's more top-heavy), but it's still there.

The Abberquacks, on the other hand, aren't as fortunate. They're occasionally called the "Assless-quacks" because they tend to be basically non-existent. Johnny/Nate has a tiny one, but his is probably the most prominent in the bloodline aside from Walter's (who takes more after the Feathertons in that regard). Alroy has no ass, like, at all.

I don't believe it's possible for it to be any flatter. I'm so sorry, Zanna asdfghjkl.

The Crossfeathers have a varying level of ass, by nature of having a lot of children. I can't go into all of them because there's too many of them, but I'll say that Rylund and Lundyn have cute lil rumps.

Still trying to figure out the rest of the Gen 0 body types. The only other one I'm certain about is Penelope, she has an hourglass figure that she flaunts...a lot.

I'm not entirely sure about Franklin—I don't see him having a Featherton booty, but he's definitely not an Assless-Alroy either. He's just...average ass I guess? Bre's in a similar situation, though hers would be more prominent than her father's because of her body type.

If you've seen any of my recent drawings of Kathleen (after I got her body type figured out), you probably know about hers already. Patrick has a lil booty himself, though I'm not always consistent with how I draw him. Vivian is very petite and though she's not as flat as Alroy (no one is as flat as Alroy), she doesn't really take after either of her parents. Her dresses sometimes give her the appearance of having an ass though, which comes with the territory of wearing Victorian-esque clothing.

Damn it, almost forgot Corbin! His physique resembles his mother a lot when he's in Dysphoria Mode and it made him self conscious about his butt. Even though it's not as prominent with the body he feels the most comfortable in, it's still pretty plump and girls make comments about it (which he hates). People might not mean to cause him Dysphoria, but Corbin would prefer if no one talked about it at all.

disclaimer! write characters however. this is me just observing stuff. no worries.

in my experience on tumblr and in the general fanfiction writing community - there is a very, very big difference in how specific types of people, specifically queer / openly queer people, interact with characters and characterization on this app. i dont think most people even really notice or know that it happens but it's something i've observed over time.

one of my biggest gripes with fandom and particularly the self-insert community, is how people tend to characterize male characters by divying them up into these two boxes of submissive and dominant.

being brutally honest - i think a lot of the characterizations of many male characters have largely to do with how many of the people in the self-insert community are femme presenting cis women.

and that presentation and gender identity + in addition to sexuality have a lot to do with how men are written in this app. in a way, it's almost a given because if you don't fall into being a cis, femme presenting women, your relationship to things like gender and what role you play in relationships is very very different.

i find this mostly to be in how things how certain characters are written as inherently more submissive vs how certain characters are written as inherently more dominant. i'll use baku but there are several characters i find this to be true.

tanjiro, yuuji, hinata vs inosuke, megumi, and kageyama.

bakugou is a character i get a lot of.. commentary on when i write him to be a submissive person in the relationship and this rlly only happens when i write him in the context of reader-insert. people will openly disagree with the characterization of bakugou that is clingy, submissive, and needy especially when i write it with fem!self-insert

but he's not the only character. any male character that aren't extremely emotional or upbeat get a degree of this treatment. kageyama, sasuke, megumi - i could go on and on.

and i think there in lies the inherent link between how queerness effects your role in a relationship and how that impacts how you see male characters and in what way you see them. how much vulnerability you're willing to write in for them etc.

when you're a queer person - you are very comfortable with the idea that a man can be a vulnerable and submissive kind of person in a relationship because you, yourself, do not have a lot of orthodoxy in your relationships. and your "level" of queerness is especially important because well, if you're a femme presenting bisexual woman who has only ever dated cis men, you've probably got a rather set role in how you perceive men and male characters.

you're probably more likely than a cishet femme woman to be okay with vulnerable and submissive male characters, but it's unlikely that you stray too far from dominant men.

where on the other hand, if you're a masculine cis woman, or a trans man, or a femme presenting lesbian or a masc nonbinary person or really anyone that is openly and outwardly queer - your views of how men can be and how men are a lot more broad almost inherently.

because you yourself do not fit an orthodoxy in relationships. you yourself cannot afford being part of any heteronormativity so your perception of a character is completely.

there's a lot to it - like how people are also comfortable writing someone like deku as submissive but someone like bakugou as dominant.

is it bc maybe you perceive anger and stoicism as dominant masculine traits and you perceive emotion and vulnerability to submissive feminine traits?

just some food for thought about how fandom sometimes accidentally perpetuates heteronormativity.

Galas or fancy parties have never been your thing, especially when they're littered with too many celebrities. Some of them are nice of course, sweet and kind, but some are a bit much, stuck in their own little bubble of fame. It was just the constant thing of one upping each other, who has the most expensive dress, which island did they visit just recently, whose yacht were they invited to, and so on.

It was not your crowd, at all. Yet here you were in a floor-length, black sleeveless dress, a V-neckline to match the low back and a high slit to show off your leg and your silver heels. The fabric was hugging you in all the right places while a strong arm was wrapped around your waist, warm fingers sometimes grazing the skin on the small of your back as you smile at this well-known producer who your boyfriend just introduced you to.

Your boyfriend who happens to be world renowned actor, Tom Holland.

"I need to use the bathroom," you whispered into Tom's ear, the lad cutting his conversation off briefly to meet your gaze, a charming smile on his lips and a loving glow in his eyes.

"Okay. I'll be right here," he hummed, giving your cheek a sweet kiss and your waist a gentle squeeze before he lets you go.

After asking around the staff for a minute you've finally reached the bathroom. You pushed the door open to find it completely empty which was a relief. You just didn't want to deal with any more gossiping or encounter any more "high class" people. You went inside one of the stalls and locked the door shut. Although, you didn't get a chance to even do your business when you heard three pairs of heels click against the tiled floor. You wouldn't have entertained it until they started to exchange words about a certain man.

"Have you seen how good Tom Holland looked?" one of them said, a sense of pride coursing through you because your man does look so good tonight, that until the same girl spoke again. "Do you think I could snatch him up for tonight?"

"Well he's got his girlfriend attached to his hip so your chances are close to none," a second voice spoke.

"That was his girlfriend?" the first one gasped exaggeratedly.

"No way, I thought it was his PA," a third girl said with a laugh.

"What a shame, he deserves someone who can actually match him," the first girl sighed.

"Someone who at least could afford a proper designer dress," the third one said.

All three of them laughed at that.

"I bet I could still get his number despite the girlfriend. I could just get him alone," the first one hummed, giggling to herself as if it was the best things she's said in her life.

Finally having enough, you fixed up your dress, took a deep breath to calm yourself before opening the stall door and walking out with your chin up. All three sets of eyes followed you as they immediately quieted down. Only brave behind the back, always cowards face to face.

You shot them each a wide smile through the mirror as you turned the faucet on to wash your hands. The three of them tried to return it but their lips only twitched as they stared at you in shock.

"With all the classy make-up and elegant dresses you'd think it would at least taint your personalities no? Be ladies with a bit of class and elegance but huh," you paused, rinsing off the soap and then turning the water off before grabbing some paper towels to dry of your hands. "What a shame," you tutted with a shake of your head, shooting them a sympathetic smile through the mirror. None of them spoke a single word as you threw away the paper towel and started towards the door with your head held high.

Before you grabbed the door handle, you turned back to them with a tight lip smile. "Oh, and this dress is worth more than all of you combined with how cheap your personalities are." You pulled the door open, though stopped midway through the doorway to look at them over your shoulder. "Words of advice, try and go for the single men, ladies, and maybe you'll get lucky. Although not guaranteed if you're a bit...desperate. Have a great night. I know I will, especially later with my man," you said with a smirk, throwing them a wink at the end of your sentence to properly get the point across.

But the moment you stepped out of the bathroom you felt your knees weaken, breathing turning heavy, tears burning in your orbs as you tried your best to keep them at bay until you were out from prying eyes. The words they've said have always been sitting in the back of your head, how Tom could leave you so quickly for someone who was up to his level. Someone more gorgeous, someone with a high status, someone who could actually match him in terms of looks and just overall fame. And hearing those words be said out loud, to hear them from actual strangers, it only makes them more real, the insecurities that's always been nagging in your brain. It only makes them more painful.

You rushed back out into the ballroom, holding your composure as best as you could. Tom was still in his place as promised, talking to the same person he did just minutes ago before you went and excused yourself.

"Tom," you croaked out when you got to him, not meaning your voice to sound weak the way it did. But it was already too late for you to try again when your boyfriend's eyes immediately snapped to look at you. Tom knows you like the back of his hand, one change in the tone of your voice and he immediately will notice that something was up.

"Hey, what's wrong?" he asked as he turned to face you fully, his hand coming up to cup your cheek so you had no choice but to look at him in the eyes. Tom's worry only grew some more when he saw your orbs glossed up with tears, features coated by nothing but utter panic.

"I'm going to go ahead and get back to the hotel room," you whispered. "You can stay—"

"No, if you want to go, then we're going now," he said firmly.

"But—"

Tom didn't give you any time to finish your sentence when he turned back to the producer he was talking to. "I'm so sorry but we need to get going. It was nice meeting you sir. I'll have my agent send you the details. Thank you so much," Tom said, offering his hand out to which the man shook with a smile, not at all minding that their conversation got cut short.

And with that, Tom took your hand in his and swiftly but gently guided you out of the ballroom.

"You didn't have to leave with me," you muttered as you both made your way back to the elevators, thankful that your hotel room was in the same building.

"No, but I wanted to. The night was getting long anyway," Tom reassured with a squeeze of your hand.

You stayed silent on the way up and even after you're inside the room. Tom's frown could only deepen when you sat at the edge of the bed with a shaky breath.

"Sweetheart, what happened?" he asked as he locked the door. You ignored him completely, hands gripping tightly at the fabric of your dress, keeping your head down as you tried to keep your breathing steady and your raging thoughts at bay, but much to no use.

"Talk to me," Tom said softly, frown deep on his lips as he slowly moved over to your shaking form. He crouched down in front of you, hands landing on your knees as he searched for your eyes but all you did was hide your face behind your palms. "Darling," he tried again, but still, you didn't even bother looking up.

Tom took it upon himself to pry your hands gently away from your face and letting his fingers intertwine with yours. His heart broke when you looked at him with nothing but utmost sadness and hurt, tears running freely down your cheeks as you whispered,

"You deserve so much better."

"Okay, who the fuck told you that," Tom growled, but you only frowned deeply at his reaction because you knew, with one look in his eyes that his anger wasn't directed at you. It was at whoever planted that thought inside your head.

"No one—"

"Y/N," Tom warned.

"Nobody told me it directly. I just heard some girls in the bathroom saying how much you're way out of my league and how I looked like some assistant when I'm beside you and they are right Tom. I can't wear any designer clothes or any expensive dresses to look at least presentable when I'm with you. I can't match how handsome you are because I look nothing like those models or those actresses—"

"Darling, have you even seen yourself tonight?" Tom cut you off, shaking his head in disbelief as he furrowed his brows. "Have you seen how many guys I've been trying to wave off of you? Have you ever wondered why I've never let you go even in the slightest? Why I kept an arm around you or a hand on your back at all times?"

You shook your head no with a frown, not really getting where he was going with this.

"Babe, you stole the whole room! They were so drawn to you all the damn time like fucking moths to a flame and I was getting so fucking annoyed at them for always staring at you like that," Tom said through gritted teeth, closing his eyes for a moment to take a deep breath and calm himself before his gaze landed back on you. He flashed you a bright, genuine smile as he gave your hand a squeeze. "But I also felt so proud because fuck yeah, look at how fucking gorgeous my girlfriend is. Look at how lucky I am to have her with me and guess what? Get wrecked 'cause all you lot can do is stare at her while I get to hold her in my arms and call her mine."

You didn't have a chance to response when Tom suddenly stood up to his full height, pulling you with him and away from the bed as he walked backwards. You followed him with brows furrowed in confusion, but he only flashed you a charming grin.

"To be honest you're the one who's way out of my league, I mean look at you," Tom paused just as he stopped moving, stepping to the side until you were face to face with yourself in the floor length mirror. "Look how fucking beautiful you are! Those girls are just jealous because my god love, you make my fucking heart explode!" he exclaimed, gesturing towards your reflection in the mirror. You tilted your head at him with a pout, fresh sets of tears coating your eyes but for a different reason this time. Tom sighed as he moved back to stand in front of you, one hand landing on your hips as the other went on your cheek.

"I don't deserve someone better you know why?" he hummed, brown eyes boring into your own. "Because you are already the best girl I could ever have in my life." Tom pressed his forehead against yours, giving your hip a loving squeeze before he lifted his hand up so he could cup your face lovingly with both hands. "You are my best, most gorgeous and amazing girl with a heart of gold to match. I couldn't possibly find someone better than you my love and fuck whoever thinks otherwise," he finished, nothing but utmost sincerity coating his voice and swimming in his eyes, words doing nothing but make you heart grow ten times its size.

Your bottom lip trembled as you stared at him all teary eyed, leaning even closer until you were able to capture his lips in yours, to let him feel through the kiss just how grateful you are of him. Tom hummed at the feeling, his hands sliding down your bare arms until he rested them on the small of your back, welcoming your kisses as he pulled you even closer to him.

"I love you," you whispered against his lips, fingers getting lost in his styled hair, tugging at them playfully making him let out a soft groan.

"And I love you so much, darling," he muttered, giving your bottom lip a soft nibble before he suddenly pulled away. One you met his eyes again, that's when you saw how they were already a shade darker than before.

Tom shot you a wide smirk before he pulled away completely, walking around you until he stood right behind, one hand taking home on your waist as the other went to hold your chin gently, turning your head to look back in front so you were once again face to face with yourself, right in the mirror.

He met your eyes through the floor-length mirror, his grin wide and mischievous as he ran his fingers down your spine, goosebumps erupting on your skin. You suck in a breath as he took hold of the zip on your dress right as he sucked on that sweet spot on your neck he's already memorized. He pulled the zip down gently, the fabric going lose around your body as you kept eye contact with him through the mirror. Tom hooked his fingers on the straps of your dress, slowly pulling them off your shoulders and down your arms until it pooled at your feet, exposing you to the cold air of the room. With his voice deep and husky, Tom growled lowly against your ear,

"Now, enough talk and let me show you just how beautiful you are."

(1) while we’re on the topic of trust, I literally also can’t stop thinking about how buck makes all the decisions about christopher while eddie is unable to, like it is his decision to keep chris at home instead of let him go with carla, it is his decision to stay with him, he doesn’t even think about whether or not he is the best person to tell chris, he just makes all those decisions and from what we’ve heard nobody even questions him on it,they all accept his authority on it and that already

(2) says a lot, but I just think it also says so much about buck’s growth as well, because he trusts himself to make these decisions, he trust that he is the best person to make the right decisions for chris, because even without telling him about the legal guardianship, eddie has been continuously showing him how much he trusts buck with chris and buck TRUSTS in that and also trusts that when eddie said over a year ago ‘there is nobody I trust with my son more than you’ he meant it! and at the (3) hospital when he tells eddie about the decisions he made about chris and about how he kinda lost it when telling eddie, there is no real hesitation there, he completely trusts eddie to be fine with him making the decision and even with him ‘failing’ chris (because that’s what he thinks him breaking down was, even though we know eddie disagrees with that) and like there is a lot of emphasis on how much eddie trusts buck here (I am still losing my mind a little over how he trusts buck with the (4) most important person in his life and he does it like it's no big deal, OF COURSE it's buck he trusts like that, which to us is obvious but it isn’t to buck and just asdfghjkl) but I just can’t really articulate it, but something about how all of it is also a big show of how much buck trusts eddie back makes me want to just keep yelling xD skdhfl sorry about the long rant, but your meta-post about trust between buck/taylor vs buddie just made me have A LOT of feelings about trust apparentlyxD

hey, nonnie! first of all, thank you for sharing your thoughts, this was such a lovely thing to wake up to! and i completely agree with everything you said here. season four has had a lot of milestones for the buckley-diaz family dynamic, we saw it in future tense, breaking point and now in survivors. it's just been a lot, more than any of us probably expected tbh.

trust is an important thing in any relationship, and i think in eddie and buck's relationship in particular, it's a very very big thing. it's like you said, 'something about how all of it is also a big show of how much buck trusts eddie back'. funnily enough, the narrative very explicitly, on several occasions, emphasizes eddie's trust in buck—but doesn't really do it the other way around. buck's trust in eddie is more implicit, we see it from the way he carries himself around eddie, the way he, as you said, 'trusts himself to make these decisions', because he trusts eddie to allow him to do so and to not take issue with it.

putting the rest under a cut to save everyone's dashes:

the interesting thing about trust in eddie and buck's relationship is that the narrative manages to be casual and intense about it at the same time. you have it being entirely casual in these instances, as you said: 'it is (buck's) decision to keep chris at home instead of let him go with carla, it is his decision to stay with him, he doesn’t even think about whether or not he is the best person to tell chris, he just makes all those decisions and from what we’ve heard nobody even questions him on it, they all accept his authority on it' all of these are pretty big things, but the storyline frames in such a casual, natural manner as if to tell us, "duh, of course buck is trusted by eddie in all this. it's not a big deal, because that's just the way things are between them." and in the more intense scenes, like in 3x03 and 4x14, the narrative leaves us with absolutely no question about the magnitude of trust and the bond between them—this is where they cross the boundaries of friendship and any other 'normal' relationship between co-workers...because buck and eddie have never been normal. you can compare them to hen and chim or bobby and michael all you want, but the truth is, none of those relationships are given the level of intensity that the buddie relationship has been given. all of those friendships, in fact, have been explicitly defined by the narrative, whereas we only have buck calling eddie his best friend in 3x03 (and not to eddie's face), and eddie never says it back—despite us knowing what buck means to him.

from the moment they started getting along midway 2x01, the story has taken care to tell us that the trust between them goes both ways—it's evident in the 'you can have my back any day.' 'or you could have mine.' we have buck and eddie, right from the beginning, putting their trust in one another wholeheartedly, and putting that affirmation of trust into words, something that was lacking in their previous relationships. shannon never felt like eddie had her back. buck had abby's back, but she never had his. it took so long for eddie to trust shannon again, but with buck, he was able to do it in a heartbeat.

'because even without telling him about the legal guardianship, eddie has been continuously showing him how much he trusts buck with chris and buck TRUSTS in that and also trusts that when eddie said over a year ago' i love what you said here because it highlights the most important aspect of buck's trust in eddie—buck's trust in eddie to be sincere in his words and to be all in with trusting and loving him. i don't think buck probably even realizes that as a factor, it's just something that's ingrained in him after all the times he's been hurt by the people who were supposed to love him. eddie's trust for buck is straightforward enough—it's with chris, the most important person in eddie's life, his entire heart and soul, anyone watching can tell that. but with buck? it's a little harder to understand than that. (also, i just love these little details—even though out of the both of them, buck is the more passionate, emotional, vocal one, a lot of his feelings with respect to his relationship with eddie remain a mystery. with eddie, the reserved, restrained, one, however? that boy is pining and it's obvious to anyone with eyes. love that for him and us).

tbh anon there are probably so many more things i could analyze and talk about on this topic but i think you said it all best 😅. and that is why the b/ucktaylor and eddie/ana relationships ultimately cannot end up working out—that level of intimate, explicit trust simply isn't there.

·Getting loved between two sizable, famous mechs means you'll never be bored. Rodimus is always ready to go galavanting about on adventures, Thunderclash is always busy either backing up Roddy or pursuing his own ends, so prepare for adventure. The ideal for them both is to travel together, so you'll be coming along with them both. Prepare for an entirely different flavor of mission depending on who's in charge.

·Thunderclash has absolutely no problem with soft, affectionate PDA and actually enjoys initiating it with the both of you. Rodimus calls him sappy and blushes, but never refuses. He's more the type who enjoys receiving in public, but unlike Thunders he has NO sense of decency. Making out in full view of everyone is actually ideal for him.

·Roddy likes to snuggle. A lot. He's been known to turn beds into nests just to make them warmer. With the two of you dating the massive Thunderclash, you'll never have to fear being cold at night, because these two will cuddle up with you somewhere safe atop them.  J would never attempt in any way, shape or form to dampen or otherwise alter the way in which you express yourself, especially verbally.

He may generally believe that words mean nothing and that actions are what speak the loudest, but when it comes to you, words are just as important as actions.

Not one for words himself, a man of action is he, J tries to convey this as often as he can in subtle ways - they’re so easily missed if one doesn’t know how to read him.

Luckily, you do, though it took some time to learn J’s love language to reach the current point of fluency.

One of the ways in which J shows you how important you are to him is that he listens to you. Always.

It doesn’t matter what you’re saying - it could be that you’re pointing out the shape of a cloud, or the fact that there seem to be more yellow cars outside today, or maybe even that you’re hungry.

He will hear the words you speak but he will listen to what you don’t, and it’s the words left unspoken which he pays the most attention to. 

“I listened to my favourite song five times today... that part when the bass kicks in always gets me.”

From this, did J derive that you could appreciate the finer points in life; you could listen to a song and pick out every individual instrument within the music. You were passionate about the things you loved, and when you enjoyed something, you allowed yourself to indulge in it.

“Yeah, I’m all right, J. I mean, I’m not crying so that means I’m good!” With a decisive nod did you let it go, but J didn’t. J knew that you weren’t okay - if you weren’t, you wouldn’t have mentioned crying and you wouldn’t have elaborated beyond “I’m all right.”

“It’s raining outside today. It’s nice when it rains - makes the air smell good. Do you think it’ll thunder later on? We haven’t had a good storm for ages and I miss having that time with you. You never go out when it rains.” You said in all of this in almost one breath while you stared out of the window and J knew that this meant that you missed him, though you weren’t about to say it. 

“All right, I hear ya, toots.” Was all J said in response to your small ramble, and he did stay in that day. It was purely coincidental that he spent the day in the living room sharpening his knives and watching old films and it was definitely a coincidence that he kept a blanket nearby in case you got sleepy...

One thing J loves about you is that you talk. More to the point, you ramble and in this way do you afford J a glimpse into your thought process; you speak as you think and it amuses him greatly.

You have been told in the past to hurry up, to condense all that you have to say in just a few short words to appease people’s impatience and general intolerance.

“Would you just get on with it, already? Jesus, you talk way too much!” and other variants are commonplace. Sometimes why you even bother to talk to anyone.

While you comply, it hurts your feelings and a habit is it of yours to suddenly cut yourself off, your face heating up in shame and embarrassment because you’re all too aware that you’re rambling but you can’t (or won’t) stop.

When you’re away with J, there’s nothing he can do to prevent people from making you feel like you have to fit yourself into their “time limit” for speaking, but when you’re with J...

He wants to hear it all.

On one such day when you’ve been told to shit up one too many times, you’re hurt deeply by others’ comments and you only end up cutting yourself off.

“ - you know what? It doesn’t matter, J.” 

You’re not sure you could take it if J was one of the people to say that to you, even though he never has before (and therefore never will).

“A-ta-ta, ah - no. Ya’ don’t get ta’ cut ya’self off like that. Talk to me, doll. What’cha thinkin’, huh?”

“Wha - you - want to hear?”

“... Ye-ah.” 

J spoke the word with two syllables; clearly you had asked him a silly question. Wasn’t it obvious?

J made it a point to sit down beside you and to cross his legs at the ankle, his booted feet on your crowded coffee table.

“So c’mon, Y/N - I’m lis-ten-in’!”

And he was.

J listened to you, and after a while he even slung an arm around your shoulder and pulled you into his body, letting you (both) get comfortable. 

Occasionally would he make a noise, either an “uh-huh” or a “yeah” or a question to keep you rambling. 

J wanted to hear you talk; he enjoyed this insight into your mind.

From that day on, every time you tried to cut yourself off when you noticed that you were rambling or if you were afraid of doing the same, J would shake his head at you disapprovingly and ask you to carry on talking.

It was your choice - he wouldn’t ever push you if you legitimately didn’t want to talk, but if you did, he would coax you into doing so.

J was always your greatest supporter in anything and he showed his love for you in small ways.

Or.. he thought they were small ways.

But for you, they meant and they were the world.

Ten of my favourite fictional women for women’s history month  

I was tagged by the ever lovely @valentinaonthemoon! Thanks so much lovely! :)

The following is in absolutely no particular order. 

1. Leslie Knope (Parks and Rec) 

A very passionate, very kind and amazing and hardworking but who is also flawed and can let her passion blind her to the truth sometimes, and her habit of digging her heels in can sometimes get her in sticky situations. I love her lots and lots and the level to which I relate to her is probably not good. I often say I am like the English Lit Leslie Knope with bonus anxiety. I love her lots. 

2. Skye/Daisy Johnson (Agents of Shield)

A badass queen who I love SO MUCH. Honestly her arc in AoS is just one of my favourites of all time. She is funny and passionate, but also headstrong and determined (sometimes to a fault). I love that she is not perfect, that she is flawed, and has been through so much and still chooses to be good. I love her lots.

3. Jemma Simmons (Agents of Shield) 

A wonderful science queen. She is just SO fundamentally good. Her curiosity and wonder for the world (and universe) is just so inspiring to me, but again her love and passion (esp for Fitz) can sometimes blind her to the reality of a situation but I still love that about her (it’s a very human trait to have). It has been an absolute privilage to watch her go from this very bright eyed, naive and curious young woman, to a passionate, badass, yet still so fundamentally kind and caring woman. Again, one of my favourite character arcs ever. I love her sososo much. 

4. Peggy Carter (Agent Carter and wider MCU) 

She is nothing like me and yet everything I aspire to be. What an absolute badass. She’s so intelligent and just such a role model to me. She stands for no shit and never sacrifices an OUNCE of her femininity to do it. Before coming across her I had never seen a character who was like that, who could retain this utter solidly badass personality and still keep this femininity, who liked having her hair done, who wore lipstick and skirts. I struggled so hard in my teenage years with reconciling, particularly femininity and intelligence, I wanted to be taken seriously but I never thought I would be if I was in a dress, and Peggy was the one who really changed that for me and I started embracing more traditionally feminine things. I just love everything about her, she has a temper, she lets her anger get the better of her sometimes, SHE IS NOT PERFECT (are you noticing a theme) and I just love her so much. 

4. Rose Tyler (Doctor Who) 

Again, a very formative character for me. She was working class, she was amazing and smart and sassy and most importantly for young me, SHE WAS BLONDE. I had grown up with the dumb blonde stereotype being put on me (despite never really being unintelligent) and hadn’t ever really seen a blonde character who didn’t slot, at least partially into that stereotype. She is fierce and firey and can give anyone exactly what’s coming to them. She is brave and wonderful, and so incredibly human. I love her lots and lots. 

5. Beatrice (Much Ado About Nothing) 

My snarky love. You all know how much I love Much Ado right?  Her “Oh god that I were a man” speech is just one of my favourite pieces of writing at all time. I could write multiple dissertations just about her, she is so endlessly fascinating to me in all of her iterations. A woman scorned and holy shit she’s gonna let you hear about it. One half of the best (SUSPECTED) lovers to enemies to lovers. She’s so INCREDIBLY witty and sharp and she’s just so BITTER about whatever the hell it is that Benedick did to her and ugh I just love her so much. 

6. The Thirteenth Doctor (Doctor Who)

I cried at every single episode in her first season because I was so happy and so overwhelmed that The Doctor was FINALLY a woman. She is intelligent and quirky and just wonderful, whilst still retaining that really deep seated anger and kind of fury that The Doctor holds within them self. asdfghjkl I love her so much. 

7. Anne Eliot (Persuasion)

My soft, quiet, pining queen. Wants snuggles but only gets struggles. Pines for nearly a decade for the same guy (a full mood) and MARRIED HIM IN THE END BC HE ALSO PINED FOR HER FOR A DECADE!!! Underappreciated by her family who are arseholes and deserves so much better than them and Jane Austen gave it to her and we cannot help but stan for that. I love her so very much. 

8. Darrell Rivers (Mallory Towers) 

Doesn’t have a gif :(

Mallory Towers by Enid Blyton was my favourite book series growing up. I have read it more times than I can actually count. My copies are the most loved books in my collection. Darrell was the first character I ever remember relating to. There’s a passage in the first book where she sits down with her teacher bc her marks aren’t very good and they talk about how some people, like her friend Alicia, can muck about in class and be silly and still get good marks, but other people, like Darrell, need to focus and concentrate in order to do well, and that HIT HOME with 7 year old me. She has an awful temper and says things in spite and anger that are really quite awful, but always feels bad afterwards and really is just a good egg. I love her lots. 

9. Sibyl Crawley/Branson (Downton Abbey)

An all time fav. An absolute SWEETHEART but will absolutely tear you a new one if need be. It’s been almost ten years and I am still absolutely DEVASTATED by her death, we were absolutely robbed of seeing her as a mother, she would have been absolutely incredible. Part of one of my favourite romantic plotlines of all time, they shoudl have had their own show, Julien Fellowes fight me. I have so many feelings about Sibyl I could not possibly do them justice in just one small paragraph. I love her SO MUCH. 

10. Elizabeth Bennet (Pride and Prejudice)

A sassy queen who is stubborn and benefits immensely from admitting that she was wrong. One of my favourite characters of all time, Jane Austen knew how to write characters SO INCREDIBLY WELL!! I think we have all met someone like Elizabeth Bennet in our lives. Declares she will never marry for anything but love (we love to see it) even if it means she will either be a spinster or destitute (probably both). I love her so much.

How do you headcanon the start of the triumvirate? Was it that Combeferre and Courfeyrac were best friends and then they met Enjolras? Or was it Ferre and Enj and then Courf? Or E and Courf and then Ferre? Or they just met in a specific place and hit it off?

Hi anon!

Well it really depends on canon vs modern AU! This post kind of got away from me and got way long, lmao, so I’ll put it under the cut:

In terms of canon-era, I imagine that they would have met as adults (or well, as adult-y as they can get at the age they would have left their homes in the South for Paris—I still do think they were children even at the time of their deaths, which is what makes their deaths and so many of those in Les Miserables so tragic, right—the fact that they were all so young, "children of the barricade" and... I'm getting off topic.) In my head, I think Enjolras and Courfeyrac would have met first. It's generally accepted that both of them, regardless of canon era or Modern AU, would go to law school (though that doesn't mean other headcanons are invalid!) so I think they would have met each other there, and once they met—the passion! It would be like, like a firework of passion for change, for a new, better world, two new friends—new best friends who understand each other like no one else has understood each before—brought together by whatever chance of fate. They would absolutely hit it off, and then I believe together, Enjolras and Courfeyrac would have first created Les Amis de l'abaisse, the society in its embryonic stage. Enter Combeferre. Another young man with ideals similar to those of the radically passionate Enjolras and Courfeyrac—but with a cooler mindset that lends him the thinking of the philosophy of the revolution, the counterpart to the previously lonely logic of the revolution (though do not underestimate Combeferre's own capacity to turn passionately raging—to do so would be foolish) who hears the whispers of secret Republican societies, and on his way home from the medical school hears of a smaller society—The Friends of the ABC, a society that though only has a few members (I imagine that Bahorel and Bossuet, seeing that they're also law students, would have met Enjolras and Courfeyrac earlier and joined before) doesn't seem to lack in spirit, and soon enough, one meeting later and he's already a dedicatedly passionate member of the society, and finds that he now has something he was missing when he first came to Paris, something special in his new friends Courfeyrac and especially Enjolras, who seems to be his corrective—the action to his thoughts, the logic to his philosophy. And from there, well, the three are inseparable. In terms of logic and philosophy, one cannot survive without the other, and neither can withstand if they do not have their centremost point. From then on, whenever plans were to be made, as the ABC society continued to grow, it became known that those three—the Chief, his Guide, and their Centre — were the heads to consult, neither a power without the other, the triumvirate, the power of three united as one.

In terms of modern AU, I have two headcanons and each comes out depending on time to time. The first is that I imagine that all three of them met in kindergarten—that’s right, modern AU triumvirate would meet each other when they were all tiny little revolutionary tots. Enjolras would be drawn to Courfeyrac because of his bubbly personality, Courfeyrac would be drawn to Enjolras because he’s this quiet little kid but even if he is quiet he did not hesitate in kicking ass telling off a kid for not sharing crayons with Courfeyrac during colouring time, and they both find themselves drawn to Combeferre because Combeferre’s already two reading levels ahead and is reading about fossils and dinosaurs and dinosaurs are cool as hell, they absolutely have to be friends with the cool nerd in the glasses, kids with glasses are cool. It’s literally only the first day, and already by the end of it, they’re making sleepover plans with each other—and from there it just grows, and they’re absolutely inseparable, all the way into university and beyond in life and you can fight me if you don’t think Combeferre and Courfeyrac are Enjolras’ true parents and give Grantaire shovel talk. A second headcanon I have, though this one I think of rarer, is that Enjolras and Courfeyrac are the same age (though I know in the brick the latter is one year younger than the former) but Combeferre is older—by quite a bit. Like, I would say five years or so, old enough to have been a sort of older brother/tutor to Enjolras and a babysitter when Enjolras was much younger, because that image is absolutely adorable in my head. Can you imagine Combeferre putting a baby Enjolras in time out only to take him out of it two seconds later because his heart just melts and he can’t take the pouting look on Enjolras’ face? Adorable. The main difference between the two is that in the first version, I can see Combeferre and Courfeyrac getting together romantically with each other. The second one, I don’t. I’m not saying that having an age gap in a relationship is bad (though, I do have opinions on... how large the gap is and at what age each is entering) it’s just that I can’t see Courfeyrac dating a guy who was once the babysitter to his best friend, but that’s just me. 

But yeah, that’s how I headcanon the triumvirate meeting. I’m sorry, anon, you were probably expecting a quick, short response and then I had to go and do this... I’m sorry I just have a lot of feelings about the triumvirate asdfghjkl they’re one of my favourite fictional friendships ever.

I ABSOLUTELY CAN !!! i have so many feelings about this AU asdfghjkl.  I don’t know if there’s anything specific you want to know/talk about.  So I will just tell you about a bit about how the other siblings are doing.

things are.  Really different for vanya in this verse? Five seems to be her favorite sibling in the show.  And aside from generally seeming like he’s the chillest, I’ve always really liked the notion that Ben is the one sibling who got along with everyone well, explaining the one-off line in season one where Vanya claims that they had nothing holding them together after Ben died.  (And though the comics are very different from the show, I’ve always had feelings about the quote from her books that the comics included where she calls Ben her sweetest sibling). 

And in this AU...Ben dies earlier than in canon.  But they also have Five longer. And that changes things.

 Five and Ben die.  They are 15 going on 16.  Still so, so young.

 And Five's disappearance can't be pegged on his disobedience this time.  Losing two 15-year olds  in a smear of violence and gore is a lot harder to pass off as an unfortunate accident. It feels a lot more like incompetent leadership.  It makes their dad look bad.  It makes him look like a villain.

(Diego and Klaus...they get mad at Luther.  Luther is also mad at Luther.  This is an issue.)

But Vanya?  Vanya's desperation for her father's approval turns into boiling hatred.

So she runs away. Sort of. Really, she just waits till the others (including Dad) aren't looking, and then she just. Packs up and leaves. And Reginald doesn't care to try and get her back. So she finds some shady asshole willing to rent to her. Maybe that's not so many steps off from what she did in canon...but she does it younger. She does it angrier.

And grief and time bring people together; she's still neglected and emotionally vulnerable, but Five had more time to force his siblings to spend time with Vanya through him, and the others have a haunting sense that Five wouldn't have wanted them to let Vanya slip through the cracks, so they aren't...best friends, or even that close really, but they keep in contact. They are still family.

Diego leaves two years later.  Maybe it’s after their dad takes his fucking eye out.  Maybe he’s just over it.  But when the time comes, he crashes on her couch for two months until he can find somewhere else to stay.

One time, long after he’s moved out and months after he picks up the vigilante gig, she opens her apartment door to find him bleeding on her couch.  

Your place was closer than mine, he says with a pained groan.  She stitches him up with no complaint.  They still argue all the time, but he doesn’t stop coming to her when he’s hurt, and she doesn’t tell him to.

Allison never needs that, not with her rumors, but when she's in LA she calls Vanya sometimes.  She likes being famous but she hates Hollywood, and sometimes it’s nice to talk with someone who doesn't make her want to cut her own ears off.  

Things with Luther are more awkward, but the Team Leader instinct never dies down, and it’s worse now, because in this AU Luther feels like he failed Ben and Five.  He can’t bring himself to blame the others for leaving.  So he and Vanya talk sometimes.

It's painfully stilted, but he checks in with her.  Makes sure she's doing okay, offers to wire her money.  Dad gave him access to an account for Mission Stuff and Luther tries to justify it in his head as an Umbrella Academy-related expense, even though deep down he knows their father would never approve.  

After a couple years she randomly gets a clipping in the mail from him.  It's just an excerpt from a poem that Luther likes.  No note, no letter, no explanation.  So she responds in kind, sends him CDs with recordings of violin songs she thinks he'd like.  Every once in a while, if she can't find a version she likes on the internet, she'll stop and record her own.  It’s more tenuous and halting than her playing for the orchestra is because on some level she's still afraid that her family will reject her.  

But those are Luther's favorites.  And it becomes their thing, at least until Luther goes to the moon.  But one of the things Luther brings with him is a CD, with all Vanya's recordings burned onto it.  He plays them when he can’t sleep.  There’s something beautiful and haunting about it; Luther closes his eyes, nothing but the stars above and the sound of Vanya’s violin pouring out into empty space, and somehow doesn’t feel so alone. 

I can’t decide whether or not Klaus is doing better or worse in this AU.  I could see him staying sober because he can’t figure out why he’s not reaching Five or Ben.  And as long as he’s sober and still can’t contact them...it means there’s a chance they might be alive.  And that’s the only thing that keeps him going sometimes.  He and Vanya talk about Five and Ben every once in a while.  It’s helpful.  

Vanya is still lonely and traumatized and emotionally vulnerable, but somehow she ended up the most competent out of all of them.  And most strangely,  though none of them ever could have anticipated it, she is the one they all still talk to.  The one that tethers them all together.  

So--with Reginald Hargreeves still alive--when Five and Ben come running back and finally finish frantically gathering up their siblings, it isn’t the manor they all crash in.  It’s Vanya’s apartment.  It’s cramped and a little bit miserable and Allison is gonna have to do something with all that movie money because they simply cannot live like this.  But in its own way, its the most genuinely happy any of them have been in a long time.

Oh my goodness. I don’t even know what to say, anon. This is a whole damn thesis and it’s about my fics :’> You know, it’s easy to brush off fanfiction as a ‘whatever’ thing and indeed, it isn’t that big of a deal compared to some things in the world. But I really do take all my stories seriously and put forth a lot of effort - so to see it recognized and appreciated it makes me beyond happy. It’s good to know that my efforts haven’t gone to waste at all and that there are people out there who will support me no matter the endeavours I take. Thank you so much. I’ve cried so much when I read Beyond reach, Boo-lieve in me, A piece of the moonlight, His name, Tell me lies etc. etc, and also laughed and felt the emotions of not just the OC, but also the other characters. Kitchen Romance was also so fluffy and sweet and personally, I don’t think that anything needs to be added to it. Anyway, your fics do not lack emotion—you’re probably the first author I send a message to because your stories impacted me a lot and left a strong impression on me. I even imagine your characters as real people who have real lives that continue on even after the story is done.

Trust me, writing comes with practice!! I should honestly just tattoo that on me. God knows my first fanfic was absolutely GARBAGE. I didn’t know pacing, didn’t know that I should separate chunks of paragraphs, how to write dialogue or describe scenes properly. I went in blind. Even my second, third and fourth fanfic was garbage. You could definitely get to “my level” or even far surpass it with enough dedication and practice. I mean I’ve been writing for four years, so thank GOD there’s been improvement. I wouldn’t be natural if there wasn’t. But clearly the more you practice, the better you improve! That applies to anything.

The me in ten years will certainly be better now.

3 is a tough one since there are so many great writers on here, but since I can only have three I’d probably have to pick @seedlingsinner (the way she sets the tone and mood of the story, along with her characterisation, is so blooming good! And the ideas in general she comes up with? OOF!) @yanderedad (I’m a sucker for yanderes and my daddy is a freaking top tier writer of them; OOF! The utter insanity of it all and how well they write it/them is just mad! Plus, have you read their smut? Asdfg- oof 👀) and @doodwrites (please tell me you’ve seen their CYOA version of FC5; that is bloody mental- mad respect for that level of commitment alone! Plus it’s super frigging good in general and I’m always checking in to see if there’s an update. Plus, the way they manage to set up the world and characters is just... damn man so blooming good, OOF!).

For 6, I don’t really remember what I was like before it, so I’d say it changed me massively. I loved creative writing when I first discovered it back in year seven, and it became this instant love and way for me to get all these crazy ideas and stories out into the real world. But, more than anything, I ended up finding a true escape and purpose in it, a way to cope with things even; specifically during year nine. That’ll be a story for another day, but writing has definitely had a massive impact on me, I’ll say that.

For 9, hell no haha. I definitely try not to; I’ll only stress myself out and run the risk of losing interest in the piece if I were to do that. I take ages to finish my fics as it is, they may never see the light of day if I were to add deadlines on to them. The most I might do is say I want it done within the year, but that’s about it. Plus, it’s not like school or something where the deadline has to be met, so there’s no real punishment if I were to miss it or not; makes it pretty pointless actually. So nope, no deadlines for me haha.

And for 12, it’d probably be on the bus. I do most of my writing there, though I do also do a bit of it in bed (I also used to do it at work, but motivation levels are low at the moment so I haven’t; plus customers end up interrupting me and the flow so it’s a bit of a slower and more languid writing time).
