Grusha

He’s there to just sit and relax, which he can’t really do with your sniffling and crying over who knows how much alcohol you’ve consumed. Eventually he just rolls his eyes and tells the bartender to cut you off. It makes you annoyed, but you’ll thank him later. If you even remember this.

You’re ready to leave to go to another pub and Grusha groans in annoyance as he follows after you. He doesn’t quite know why he cares so much, but does know that he doesn’t need to hear about something happening to a drunk person in the news tomorrow.

Grusha eventually annoys you enough that you let out, "My flight was canceled and I went home to find my ex cheating on me, so now I'm at this pub". That causes him to feel a tad bad for interrupting, but the guilt leaves easier as you’d just feel worse the next day.

Would instead convince you to go with him someplace to eat instead. He doesn’t know what might be open at this time, but you need food in you more than alcohol. Again, you’ll thank him later. Especially since he weasels your phone number out of you so he can make sure you get to whatever hotel safely after eating something.

Melony

Melony only went to the bar to be one of the designated sober person for her friends. But she ended up getting distracted by how sad you looked while everyone else was celebrating. She does have a soft heart so she quickly made an excuse, trusting Kabu to watch over the group instead.

She made your way over to you and asked for some food and water for you. You need something in your stomach that’s not alcohol. It’ll only make you feel awful tomorrow.

Honestly, she’s such an easy person to talk to that you just find yourself telling her "My flight was canceled and I went home to find my ex cheating on me, so now I'm at this pub". Melony can’t help but make a face at that. What awful luck and what a trash person.

She’s quick to tell you that it’s good that you left them. It might not have been under great circumstances, but if this is the type of person they are then they’re not worth it. Sure, she doesn’t really know what type of person you are, but she’s still going to be happy to help if she can!

Rika

Rika was there to try and relax from all the stress of the holidays and season when she noticed you seeming to be the only one not in the holiday mood.

She knows she should’ve minded her own business, but she still sat by you, ordering you a drink with plenty of ice so you can get some water in your system too.

"My flight was canceled and I went home to find my ex cheating on me, so now I'm at this pub" She made a face when you were explaining your poor mood. Yeah, that’s a real crappy situation.

Rika doesn’t quite know what to do to help, but maybe you’d like to go outside and get some fresh air? Just so you’re not cooped up and can let the cold air calm you down a bit. She’ll be with you so you don’t have to be alone. Honestly, this isn’t the weirdest way she’s started a friendship with someone.

melony/reader reader has always loved melony, for years. melony pretended not to notice but it's gone on for too long. melony/reader one sided angst <33

'I know I shouldn't stare but everything about her captures me, the way her eyes shine like ice in the sun, or the way she smiles. it tugs at my heartstrings, yet the gleam from her wedding ring reminds me. it reminds me of what i can never have'

i shoulnt feel this way, she's my best friend my world. every passing hour i can't help but imagine a world a place where we were together, where i had the courage to tell her how i felt all those years ago.'

"reader? Are you listening?" snapping out of their thoughts they realised they were not listening. "yeah, uh i was,, heh" they could feel the awkwardness coming from their words. what they didn't know was that Melony knew, she knew what every look meant, the way the reader blushed at every physical contact they shared but she refused to leave her friend.

“I should be going, reader. see you soon?” leaving it as a question, melony silently hoped she wouldn't have to meet up again. She loved reader but only as a friend, it hurt her to know the feelings they had. “Yeah… see you” Melony could hear the heartache in her friend's voice, as she turned away reader couldn't help but stare longingly. The heart panged with misery. They finally were left with the realisation that melony truly would never give them a chance.

They knew this would happen, falling for your friend isn't something that you can easily come back from, especially if you were this deep.

Melony had a grip on your heart so strong it suffocated you, it felt like it drove you to insanity.

Melony knew how you felt and knew it was time to do something about it, it would break both your hearts but she knew it had to be done. A simple text was all she needed to send.

Her hands started sweating, her heart racing, legs weak but her brain pushed forward. Her finger clicked send on the message saying goodbye……forever.

Here’s the next page of this thing. :0 This page is a special article on Raihan called “Raihan’s 15 Secrets.” Tbh most of this stuff is directly from the game, but feel free to read if you’re interested!

Apologies for any confusing phrasing here... some of these sentences were quite long and I don't have a ton of practice with long sentences;; I tried to break them up when it was more natural to do so in English, but idk it’s not perfect... Also, I referenced in-game phrasing which I found on serebii and bulbapedia for a couple sentences. I’m not 100% sure if some of the things in the magazine were intended as direct quotes from the game, though.

DISCLAIMER: I’m not a professional translator and my Japanese is honestly not that good (I’m like N3-ish I guess, never took the JLPT tbh). I only lived in Japan for around 2 years before moving back to the US. I’m definitely going to be missing a lot of nuance in my translations & there’s a good chance I may translate some things incorrectly. I’ll do my best tho. ^^;

Raihan’s 15 secrets

To celebrate the winner of this month’s Nintendo Dream Pokemon Sword & Shield Major Character Popularity Poll, we’re releasing a special feature article on Raihan. From fundamental facts that fans would know and regard as common knowledge to a few lesser known facts here and there, here are the 15 secrets!

(Includes some speculative content done by the Nintendo Dream editorial department. Some areas may differ from the character's formally-established profile.)

1. Raihan comes out as by far the tallest of not just the gym leaders but of all the major characters in Pokemon SWSH. His Pokemon Scale World Figure (Bandai Co.) is about 1/20th to true size; it’s around 9.75 cm, so he’s maybe around 195 cm?

2. Raihan’s rotom phone is the red color type. (The protagonist’s is orange and Hop’s is blue.)

3. His greatest partner is his Duraludon, which can gigantamax. It knows the moves Dragon Claw, Iron Head, Stone Edge, and Body Press. Duraludon’s sp. attack is higher than its attack, so it’s unusual that it only knows physical attacks. It may be that Raihan was taking into consideration his rival Leon’s Charizard, as well as what to do after gigantamaxing—which is why he made sure that Duraludon can attack with a powerful rock-type move.

4. He’s a dragon type user, but he’s also proactive about having non-dragon types in his party like Gigalith, Sandaconda, and Torkoal. His gym trainers do the same.

5. He likes to strategize around changing the weather. He puts together his teams such that they can utilize weather conditions: in the Gym Challenge he centers his team around sandstorm, while in the Champion Cup and the Galar Star Tournament his team utilizes strong sunlight.

6. The Hammerlocke Stadium gym mission is not at the stadium, but is instead conducted inside the Hammerlocke Vault. It seems the reason he has trainers participate in double battles is so that he can see how they perform under all kinds of circumstances.

7. It seems he is teaching the following principles to the Hammerlocke Gym gym trainers: the strength of dragon types, as well as how to make the battlefield work to your advantage in order to utilize that strength.

8. When battling Raihan, if the player or Raihan himself change the weather, he will say a special line of dialogue.

9. It seems that he has not once won against the ice type gym leader Melony. Even when up against her in the Champion Cup Tournament, he generally loses. Raihan has a lot of Pokemon on-hand who have a type-advantage over ice types, so he and Melony should be rather evenly matched in essence, but… maybe it’s that he finds her hard to deal with in some way?

10. When you meet up with Kabu on the Isle of Armor, he tells you that he himself was the one who suggested that Raihan add Torkoal to his team.

11. Other than the Pokemon League symbol and the dragon type gym symbol, the Macro Cosmos Bank logo is also depicted on Raihan’s uniform—this is the same logo which appears in advertisements at Hammerlocke Gym. Macro Cosmos Bank recruits strong-looking dragon type Pokemon for Poke Jobs to protect their investments, so having them as a sponsor is perfect for Raihan.

12. There’s an advertisement in Hammerlocke Stadium that seems to depict a Machoke and some sort of supplements. Perhaps it’s Protein or some sort of dietary supplement?

13. You can meet Raihan on the Isle of Armor while he’s in the middle of some “top-secret training.” He talks to you about various things depending on the weather. He has also taken a liking to Challenge Road as a great "selfie spot".

14. He often uses “ore-sama” when referring to himself, but he also uses “Raihan-sama,” “ore,” and “Raihan.”*

Raihan & Melony, Raihan & Piers, or Raihan & Leon as your opponents

15. In the Galar Star Tournament, you can see special dialogue in the following circumstances:

Raihan as your partner with Milo, Kabu, Melony, Piers, or Leon as your opponent (or vise-versa)

Leon as your partner with Piers & Raihan as your opponents

Hop as your partner with Leon and Raihan as your opponents (first round)

*(TN: If you don’t know these Japanese honorifics or pronouns here’s my explanation... I’m not an expert so this is just my understanding. “ore” is a first person pronoun used by boys and men (generally considered more masculine and/or informal than watashi or boku), and “-sama” is an honorific kind of like “sir” or “madam”. “ore-sama” is kind of a fictional first person pronoun that establishes a male character as someone who thinks highly of himself. Tbh it doesn’t really happen in the real world unless someone is joking or trying to sound like an anime character… it’s just something characters use in anime/manga/games/etc.

For “Raihan” and “Raihan-sama”: referring to yourself by name is usually considered kind of childish and cutesy, and then adding -sama to the end of your name (Raihan-sama) has the same effect as “ore-sama” of being kind of proud or cocky. Again referring to yourself by name is pretty uncommon for adults to do outside of anime/manga/games/etc. I think I only had one adult acquaintance who did this and she was kind of a strange lady tbh lmao… a couple of the middle school girls that I taught referred to themselves by first name, tho.

Anyway since Raihan’s a fictional character, these are all relatively common (?) first person pronouns that kind of establish him as proud/cocky and maybe playful/cute at times.)

20. Washing their back/hair in the shower.

Melony's showers are ice cold, to the point where she never even bothers to touch the hot water valve in her shower. And it's something she's mentioned before, when she's waltzed in to the bathroom after you, remarking about how she didn't understand how you were able to bare having the shower so hot.

It didn't matter if you actually did have a hot shower, or a lukewarm one, if the bathroom temperature raised the slightest of a degree after you had used the shower, in her mind it was too hot. But with this information in mind, when she invited you into the shower with her to help her wash, you knew what you were getting into.

You're just trying to make how cold you were so blatantly obvious as you draw soapy circles on her back with the wash cloth, trying not to shiver as ice cold water hits your skin. "Dear, are you cold?" She asks worry knitting into her brow when she peers back to you.

"No," you lie and she doesn't believe you for a second.

"If you're cold you can warm up the water." You go to object, but she's reaching her hand over to the hot water nozzle before you get a word out. "In fact I'll do it, let me know when it's just right." She keeps turning it until you nod, which you do the moment the feeling of the water doesn't cause you to shiver. "Just tell me next time, I didn't invite you in here to freeze you solid! Now be a dear and turn around so I can wash your back."

You're quick to do as she asks, happily enjoying both the feeling of warm water against your skin and her rubbing the wash cloth onto your back.

hc for the gym leader (and Leon?) with corny pick up lines? Like how do they feel about receiving them or giving them?

I think that’s all of them! I left out Bea, Bede, Marnie, and Allister as they’re just small babies who don’t need to know about the world of raunchy pick-up lines. This was kind of hilarious to write because I looked up tons of pick up lines for this. The only one that’s original is Leon’s and sort of Raihan’s? I saw one and was like, “Imma just change it a bit.” I hope you enjoy it and if you guys have better pick up lines for them let me know.

Milo:

◆ This boy isn’t good at giving or receiving pick up lines.

• He gets flustered when someone uses one on him.

• He usually laughs it off while trying to think of the proper response.

• His pickup line of choice is, “Your hand looks heavy. Here, let me hold it for you.”

Nessa:

◆ She’s pretty competitive, so if you shoot out a pick up line, she’s going to have to one-up you.

• She finds most of them entertaining, especially the more raunchy ones.

• Of course, none of these should be taken too seriously, though, as she’ll go to the extremes to win.

• Her pickup line of choice is, “I could put some motion in your ocean.”

Kabu:

◆ He doesn’t see much of a point in pick up lines, but if you insist, he’ll go along with it.

• He typically only receives them either from his partner or from random fans who are more ballsy.

• The most anyone has ever seen him affected by one is when he had a small smirk at a particularly stupid line.

• His pick up line of choice is “The fire might be out, but you’re still smoking hot.”

Opal:

◆ This woman knows almost every old school pick up line as they’ve all been used on her.

• Lately she doesn’t have to worry about it, but she’ll thrown one out if she’s close to someone and they’re pretending to flirt.

• She pretends like she doesn’t understand the dirty ones, but she gets it and just doesn’t want to amuse the other person.

• Her pick-up line of choice is, “I guess you’re a fairy-type, because I can’t help the charm you’ve put on me.”

Gordie:

◆ He’s usually the one giving out the uber corny pick-up lines and making those around him cringe a bit.

• He always delivers the line with such confidence, though, that it’s hard to hate it.

• When he receives one, it’s either he gets flustered, or he can’t stop laughing.

• His pick up line of choice is “Trust me, babe, I really DIG you.”

Melony:

◆ She’s no stranger to hearing pick up lines, and after years of it, she’s learned a few good ones.

• She usually won’t throw them out there, though, but if she’s feeling like it, she can.

• She typically doesn’t realize the dirty ones are naughty until much later.

• Her pick up line of choice is “Can you hold my gloves? I normally warm them up by the fire, but you’re way hotter.”

Piers:

◆ He usually doesn’t give out pick up lines, nor does he receive them.

• Despite him being pretty cool, for some reason, a lot of people don’t see him as super approachable.

• Those who do know him will happily use any lines of him they can think of, as most of the time, he finds it hilarious.

• His pick up line of choice is “Do you like heavy metal? Cause I can teach you how to scream.”

Raihan:

◆ He’s the encyclopedia of horrible pick up lines.

• He’s always using them on both friends and well as receiving them from fans and the like (especially online).

• He has a folder on his phone dedicated to the funniest ones, though he finds the raunchy ones to be hilarious if they’re extra corny.

• His pick up line of choice is “If you pet my dragon, I bet I can make it spit some fire.”

Leon:

◆ Leon is used to receiving pick up lines all the time due to his status as the champion.

• Everyone wants a piece of him apparently, and a lot of them are pretty damn funny about it.

• He’ll occasionally throw them out himself if he knows the person well enough, though, and he almost always keeps it clean.

• His pick up line of choice is, “If you challenge me to a date, I promise you’ll have a champion time.”

Could i ask for headcanons for sword/sheild leon, raihan, koga and melony with an s/o raising a baby kangaskhan who is initially shy of the trainers but warms up (asks to be picked up, hugs their leg, etc.)? The s/o carries it around in a large pouch of her hoodie, like the ones for cats.

Note(s): Hey Game Freak, I'd love to know what happens when the momma Kangaskhan and the pouch baby are separated please. I am now invested in this.

I’m also only writing for Sword/Shield so I won’t be writing for Koga.

Leon

Has so many questions for you. Where did you find the baby? How long have you had them? Do you need any help from him?

Leon knows a lot of people so rather you need to find a nurse for the baby or if you need him to reach out and try to find the momma then he’ll help.

A bit upset that the baby is so shy because he really wants to get closer but also doesn’t want to scare it.

Okay but seeing how well you’re taking care of the pokemon warms him up so much. Will state that you’d be a good parent someday, or even really good if you ever wanted to work at a pokemon daycare.

Melony

Melony’s momma instints kick in so fast. She finds the baby to be precious but also really concerning. Where is this child’s momma? She must be worried sick about her baby!

Not upset at you for raising the pokemon, but she wants to do whatever she can to try and locate the momma Kangaskhan and keep the little one safe.

She is happy when the baby does warm up to her eventually and she’ll be glad to hold them and bottle feed them and she is realizing that she wants another baby.

You better believe that she’s going to take this baby to multiple checkups and nurses to make sure it’s super healthy. Kangaskhan are only ever in pouches of their parent pokemon so Melony needs to make sure this baby is okay being away from its mom.

Raihan

I mean he wants to take all the photos to post online but refrains due to how shy the pokemon is to just him. The last thing he’d want is for people to pester him for constant updates when the poor thing needs rest.

Definitely wants to know where you found the baby. They’re always with the parent Kangaskhan so trying to find the other one is a high priority.

Will be happy when the little guy does eventually open up to him. Raihan would slowly start to introduce his own pokemon to the baby in hopes of it making more friends.

Would jokingly ask if bringing home a baby pokemon was your way of telling him something. Would make lots of jokes about being a dad now since the Kangaskhan is practically his baby too.

you bet your ass raihan will go to insane lengths to try to impress his future s/o once he's caught feelings. mans already feral, so it pretty much increases tenfold when hanging around his crush.

"how quick d'you think i could climb this tree?" "raihan i don't think that's-wHAT ARE YOU DOING STOP-!"

anything he finds that reminds him of you is sure to become one of many gifts he "nonchalantly" gives you when you next hang out, but raihan secretly looks forward to your reaction every time.

leon

oh god, if you thought he was showy before, you ain't prepared for what he has in store for you. you both knew about your attraction to one another, so he had no issue riding to your house on charizard's back and knocking on your door, chest puffed with pride.

or at least, he thought he had no issue until you actually answered the door. leon nearly broke into a sweat. shit, he forgot how much cuter you were in person-

he did his best to keep his composure as he took your hand in his own, rushing out the question before he could lose his nerve.

melony

it didn't start out as a snow day, really. you two were just headed back from a grocery run when you'd managed to slip on ice hidden by the thin layer of snow. you landed in a nearby snowdrift with a startled yelp.

melony had rushed over in worry, offering her hand to help you up. despite her strength, it seems you pulled a little too hard by mistake and she landed right on top of you.

she let out a breathless laugh, "oh dear, so is that how it's gonna be?"

she got up and patted some loose snow into a ball, leading up to a full blown snowball fight, playing and laughing until you both were too tired to continue. you both headed home, your clothes at various levels of dampness and laughing like idiots.

allister

you're not quite sure if you can call it a date, but you and allister mostly spent the day inside and watching your favorite movies together.

as time went on, allister scooted progressively closer to you on the couch, moving his hand so that your pinkies were touching ever-so-slightly.

by the end of the last movie, both his gengar and mimikyu had joined. mimikyu was very shy at first, but had meekly moved closer until it was sat in your lap, emitting an almost purr-like noise as you gently pet the head of its costume.

Melony x reader

Your man wasn't home, again. He was working hard to have time for you and the baby later, but you missed him like hell, and your fears started to be out of control. Instead of complaining, you came at Melony's gym stadium to see a match. She was like a second mom to you, always so kind and sympathetic. Watching her puting all she got into battle made your fears bearable. Here you were, like a total groupie, applausing your precious gym leader. When the match was over, you tried to reach the exit before getting shaken but the crowd what too big. Someone hit your belly without noticing and the pain made you collapse.

It took a few long minutes to recover, but you were on a bed when you woke up. Melony stared at you, truely worried. “You scared the hell outta me, young girl !” she claimed with tenderness. She sat on the bed, already knowing something was off. She knew you for years now, you couldn't hide anything from her. “Come on, you can talk to me. If anyone hurt you, I'll make a mash of his ass !” Of course you laughed. Melony tried to pull you up and frankly, it was working.

“I'm scared Melony ! The father of my child is aways so busy, so here I am, scared and alone... what if something happens, like today, and the baby is hurt ? What if something was wrong ??” Melony sighed loudly before holding you in his arms, like a true mother would do. She calmed you down by rolling her hand all over your back, softly, gently. “Your man is going to return... his absence won't last. Aaaaah men ! Always here to hug you and the minute after, they're off !” she joked, without stopping her hug.

“First of all, you can rely on me darling. I'll always be here for you, and if not, I'll send mt boy Gordie. Trust me, nobody misses with him, his not my boy for nothing ! Second of all, your baby needs you to stay still, calm. You're a mother to be after all ! As for your man... the next time I see him, we'll have a little chat, trust me !” Her speech and a blink was all it took to make you feel better. You thank a with a kiss on her cheek, whispering : “you're a true mother to me, Melony... the best of the best.”

𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐖𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 (Pokemon)

Just a small bad weather × Reader with a certain Gym Leader you'll see below, and I am happy to say I am still active! Just a bit dazzled by all my new time off recently!

- 𝙼𝚎𝚕𝚘𝚗𝚢 𝚡 𝚂/𝙾 ❄ - 𝙵𝚕𝚞𝚏𝚏

Ｍｅｌｏｎｙ

🔸She's here for you; and the snowstorm wreaking havoc on the coast of Galar will not deter her from caring even more for you.

🔸You remember hearing about the snowstorm on the news and from all the Spikemuth trainers and citizens who come to your city of Circhester for supplies and gear for the upcoming snowfall; as Circhester had this gear nearly all year long for the people who wanted to travel and weren't familiar with the area.

🔸And being the significant other of the icy Gym Leader Melony, and in-law to famous underling trainer Gordi, did help get some info from Yell Grunts and Spikemuth blabber mouths.

🔸You were convinced it was nothing you all haven't had before. The Hero's bath never seemed to freeze no matter how bad it got, so Fire Pokemon will most likely be out to help the citizens clear the streets with heat so daily life can go on. Afterall, the Fire types that trained and lived in this cold environment burned hotter then those in warmer areas (something the town was proud of).

🔸So, you went to the area outside of town to make sure all the Wild Pokemon had food before the storm and weren't hurt. Some other folks helped you, as it was a peaceful and loving town.

🔸But them, the blankets fell.

🔸It had started small with flurries coming in and dancing past your winter hats brim to shower your vision in small specks. A neighbor helps a Synow into a tree and leaves after that, boots crunching loudly. All others except you had left now, and you felt a bit too giddy to do much treking back to Circhester.

🔸An hour or so into helping a Delibird who messed with the wrong Jellicent, you thought it'd be fine here with this snow. Perhaps it'll get worse if the snow falls peacefully for an extended amount of time, but you weren't worried...

▪ Until you were hit with what felt like water droplets.

🔸In weather like this and in a climate like this, rain was nearly hard to get in summer so you knew only one thing was falling on you; sleet.

🔸And sleet always layed ways for hail.

🔸As quickly as you could, you packed up all your supplies you had out and trecked back to town; snow goggles over your eyes as you fought the elements by yourself back home.

🔸Instead of going home, you made your way up nearly invisible and blanketed stairs covered in snow to get to the Pokemon Gym of Circhester. Your dear Melony had requested you take one of her Pokemon at the Gym while assisting the Pokemon out of town and even gave you her prized Frostmoth to protect yourself in tall grass. (She cooed she'd feel much safer if you had her Ice baby with you over other Pokemon before pecking your cheek.) You had no idea why she always requested this, but it was probably just in best interest as hail and snowy conditions did not faze Fristmoth at all. The perfect snowy weather saviour.

🔸But Frostmoth was not needed, and you opened the doors to the main Gym lobby to see trainers huddled on the furniture and staff bundled in jackets and passing around warm blankets and soups. You waved at a few younger trainers who git stuck in this weather as you stripped your face gear to breathe properly.

🔸That, and your hat was wet fron the melting snow. And was dampering enough to cause your skin to cool uncomfortably.

🔸"And you still are as reckless as ever..." Comes a sweet, but irrated voice you knew well.

🔸You sputter a bit as Melony herself comes from the direction of the challenge rooms entrance, shoes with heavy heels clicking on the thin but course red carpet as she comes over to you.

🔸"Who knew you can sweat--even nervously--while frozen solid on your feet." She said neutrally, but she took your cold and wet gloved hand lovingly in yours as you continued to not give her a proper answer. "Come on to the locker room, it has a warm shower and I have a spare set of winter clothes here just incase of emergencies."

🔸You tried to hide your face as young challengers giggled and pointed at you being talked to so lovingly and dragged away. Older challengers looked a bit jealous, or just confused if they were too far away.

🔸In the locker room, you were given privacy as Melony went into her office to get essentials for your warmth. You had no change of clothes, so hopefully you didn't have to wait too long.

🔸As the hot water heated your skin nicely and your nose cleared a bit from all the hot steam, you heard the door creak as Melony's flat-heeled shoes pad your way. And she laughs as she taps on the wall politely.

🔸"Take as much hot water as you like, sweetpea, I'll leave these extra clothes on the stall hooks outside. I'll be waiting in the bench room for you after your all warmed up." Her voice is silky as she is heard doing a bit of moving about, and then leaves.

🔸As you get out of the shower a little later, you look at all the tags on the random clothes in wonder. You call into the main area, "Why do you have spare clothes in my size in your Gym?"

🔸"Sweetpea, I have kids and I know how bad winters like this can be. I also have a bit of history as a rescue trainer for the weather of Circhester. I think I know best to keep spares on hand!" She says fondly and doesn't appear just out of nowhere like she tends to do. Thankfully.

🔸As you put on the clothes and step out, you hear her clap and wade over to you. She embraces you and all you can feel is her warmth and soft features in the embrace; a small lick of ice on her sleeve from probably being mid-battle when the snow hit.

🔸She kisses your neck as you whine in frustration, "Your lip gloss was cold! Agh, stop!"

🔸She kisses you more, and kisses you harder as you whine and struggle a bit more. Both of you laughing happily afterwards as the heater for the whole Gym pumped even harder.

You’ve never put much thought on social media. Pokegram, Pidgetter—you use them sparingly, and mainly to keep up with your friends and family. Sure, you know some of the memes, and most news you know because of the internet, but you don’t post much about yourself.

Mostly, it’s because you’re a private person. As an introvert, sometimes it overwhelms you, how many people can see something you’ve posted, how many people can be aware of your existence by only searching up your profile. You know about the options of privacy—in fact, you’ve got them on—but it still gets to your head, some days.

Which is why it comes as a surprise when you start liking Gordie. He comes by your shop every other day, and he’s—well. He’s attentive, and his compliments always sound genuine. His smiles, that you’ve seen multiple times on TV, somehow feel warm, and maybe that’s just you liking him, but Arceus. It’s no wonder he’s one of the most popular gym leaders out there.

When, a few weeks later, he asks you out on a date, you can’t help but saying yes.

The date is a private thing, a dinner by a restaurant where not many people go to, but that he and his family love, he explains.

And it goes well. It goes beyond that, even, because even if your personalities are different, you and him just seem to click.

On the second date, the talk about him being a public figure comes. You can’t lie—you’re intimidated by it, both because you don’t know much about the ins and outs of being famous, and because as mentioned before, you are a very private person, and would prefer to keep out of the public eye before knowing if you and him would work out. As you explain it to him, you find him to be very understanding of your position, and you find out that although he does like to flaunt his partners—he loves to show the world who he loves, after all—the time he has with them he prefers it to be in private or secluded settings so that he can focus on them and no one else. He agrees to keep it on the down low, and the rest of the date passes by swimmingly.

It’s charming. It’s nice, and he kisses softly, unsure at first, letting you lead. He leaves pecks on your cheeks, and it makes them red—how could it not?—and you kind of like it.

(You kind of love him.)

Five weeks in; four dates, seven afternoons of you watching him train and eating and chatting with him, some hanging out to watch some movies in between, and more than a couple of make-out sessions in, and it’s on a lazy afternoon when you realize you’re starting to fall for him.

Honestly, an I-could-really-love-you kind of thing.

It’s terrifying, and exhilarating, and Arceus, if he smiles at you one more time—

Hello love, reads the text he’s sent you. Want to swing by the gym this afternoon?

The trainers and secretary of the Circhester Gym know you as his new “friend”, though they watch you both with scepticism and like to throw some teasing glances around while whispering conspiratorially.

I’ll be there, you answer him. My shift ends at 4PM. That okay?

He texts back fast, as always, with: See you then! Later, love, xx.

You chuckle, and the clock has never been slower than it is at the moment. Three hours to go.

The end of your shift finds you heading to the Circhester Gym, a smile at the edge of your lips, threatening to show up.

You greet the staff with a smile and they let you pass, content with how happy you seem to make their boss.

“Good afternoon,” you say when Gordie comes to your sight. Leaving a peck on his lips, you see his cheeks rising up a faint red. “And thanks for your hard work today, gym leader,” you tease him.

He’s very proud of his position and of his pokemon, but whenever complimented about it, he turns bashful, even if still proud. He’s adorable. You swear it.

“Good afternoon, love. Have you had a good day?” He asks, a hand going around your waist, kissing lightly your crown and cheek.

(Inside, you’re melting. He’s so sweet, you could die.)

You make small talk, heading to the training camp where his pokemon are. Having already been introduced, you smile when his Tyranitar approaches you, wanting the pets he knows he’s going to have.

As he’s taking a break from training, so are his pokemon, and soon they’re all eating the treats you’ve brought them.

“If you spoil them so much they’re going to expect you to keep doing it, you know,” he warns you, voice stern contrasting the softened features of his face.

You laugh. “That’s the plan.”

Barking out a laugh, Gordie picks you halfway up and kisses you, evidently charmed.

And then a crash makes you both look towards the entrance. Where—to your embarrassment—Melony, his mother, is watching with her mouth open.

Wha—

“Mom!?” He exclaims from your side. “What—What are you doing here?”

Melony, still shocked, looks between the both of you for a few seconds before looking at her son sternly.

“Don’t tell me you’ve been hiding your special person from us!”

Gordie blushes, flustered like you’ve never seen him before. “No! I—They’re—How do you even know about that!?”

(As he’ll explain to you later, “special person” is how he’d referred to romantic partners when he was little and didn’t understand the concept of it. As far as he knows, though, only his sisters know about it.)

(Melony, at that time, thought it was adorable. You will, too.)

“—and now I found you here, with someone, kissing them! Oh, what is their name? It’s about time you found someone!”

“Mom—” he tries to interrupt her.

“Oh, dearie, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to ignore you,” she says, now looking at you. “I’m Melony, Gordie’s mother.” After that, she focuses her attention on Gordie again. “Oh, they’re adorable! How long have you been dating them?” Back at you. “I hope my son hasn’t given you much trouble.”

“Mom! Mom, stop!”

Gordie puts himself between you two, and after a few tense moments, you start to laugh. Melony looks at you, curious, probing, and the edge she’d been on since catching you kissing her son disappears. You’re so genuine—she’s a good judge of character, and she believes her instincts—and as she sees you grabbing Gordie’s hand to calm him, she knows she’s got nothing to worry about.

Only about when will it be okay for her to invite you home and show you the multiple albums she’s got of Gordie when he was younger.

(Gordie shivers. No, he’s not letting his mother near you any time soon. Too many baby pictures, he thinks.)

(He’s right.)
