Chapter 7: this world is only gonna break your heart

If Miguel had a nickel for everytime you had been attacked by a monster-like man creature, and had to be rescued by him, he’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird it happened twice.

The police had made quick work for once and had evacuated the area, making sure to keep up when the scene moved from the aquarium back over to Coney Island. News choppers keeping a distance from where they flew in the air, capturing live footage of your capturer dodging police, using you as a human shield in an attempt to keep bullets from being fired in his direction. You would have squirmed against the blue tentacles that wrapped around your body, if it weren’t for him holding you hostage on top of the wonder wheel, one wrong move and you could slip off, or worse, he could drop you off it like you were nothing more than a piece of trash.

Your pleas fell on deaf ears as you begged to be let go, to be placed back on ground level, but he wouldn’t even glance in your direction, instead opting to look out into the crowd, watching, waiting. He seemed to be getting impatient, you could tell by the irritated huff he let out, before you felt his limb tighten slightly before your feet began to be lifted off the narrow steel beams underneath themselves. Your hands instinctively go to grip the blue ampendage, you let out a screech, your throat raw as you begged for him to not let go, your tears cascading down your face as he waits. If you were thinking clearly, it would have clicked in your mind. You were acting as bait.

The wind was knocked out of your lungs as you were suddenly webbed against the bright orange Farris wheel, a sob escapes your lips as you quickly evert your eyes from the floor that was at least 50 yards beneath you, praying to whatever gods would listen to make sure the neon red silk wouldn’t decide to snap underneath you, while you felt the octopus-man’s tentacle pull away from you.

“Spider-Man! I see my favorite insect finally decided to join us.”

“Doc ock.” Spider-Man grumbled as he began to scale the amusement park ride. “What do I owe the displeasure to this time.” Finally, he decided to move from his spot at the top of the Farris wheel, both men leaving you basically forgotten. Doc ock didn’t justify the remark with an answer, rather begins to weave himself between the teal metal beams, as Spider-Man went after him, attempting to trap him in webs as he followed. Like a game of cat and mouse. “Let’s get this over with doc, we both know how this is gonna end.”

You had no idea what was happening behind you, but you did know that every time they gripped onto the metal of the wheel as they used it like a jungle gym the whole thing would shake, it was utterly terrifying. You were never partially scared of heights before, but now you definitely were. The adrenaline rush was making your blood pump and your heart beat to ring in your ears, trying to take deep breaths as you bit your lip to keep your whimpers and sobs low. Why couldn’t one of those damn news hoppers grab you?

You have no idea how long you’ve been stuck against the Farris wheel, but it feels like an eternity.

Finally, you let out a gasp as you heard one of the webs begin to rip from beneath you, feeling the thin silk brush lightly against your ankle as it slowly begins to unwind. Instinctively you grabbed onto one of the webs that was a bit higher on your body, one that seemed thicker, more sturdy, just in time for the unwinding of the web on your lower half to pick up speed. You let out another yelp as you finally felt the webbing snap and fall down, letting out a sob as it flowed away in the wind, as you tried to hoist yourself up higher on the neon red webs.

“Help! Spider-Man help!” Your pleas reached Miguel’s ears faster than anyone else’s would have, he quickly glanced up and saw you were quite literally hanging from a thread. If he wasn’t quick enough, you’d surely plummet and be severely injured, or worse… “I’m gonna fall! Please!” You interrupted yourself with another scream as you watched in horror as the sting of web you were depending on to keep yourself up, starts to slowly rip away due to gravity. Miguel let out a frustrated huff, as he stopped for a second to catch his breath, he could throw that nasty octopus in the slammer another time, he couldn’t let you get injured again. He wouldn’t.

“I’m coming!” Doc ock was quickly dropped from Miguel’s mind as fast as the octopus fled the scene. Miguel begins to quickly climb back up to your level, unfortunately, his strength and speed shook the metal structure as he climbed back up, leaving small claw marks as he re-ascended the Farris wheel. The shaking only sped up the deteriorating of the web you were holding onto, until-

Snap.

You were screaming but you couldn’t hear anything but a ringing in your ears that was getting more intense every inch you got closer to the floor. The watching crowd could only let out a collective gasp as they watched your descent, mothers covering their children’s ears and eyes, teenagers recording on their phones, your teachers that were supervising watching in horror knowing that this was going to be a PR nightmare for the boarding school despite if you somehow managed to get out unscathed.

You were so petrified and out of it that you didn’t even realized that Spider-Man had jumped off after you until you felt his arm cling around your waist, pulling back out of your deer-in-headlights-like state, causing your arms to instinctively around his neck before using his free hand to shoot a web onto the wonder wheel, stop you both only 20 feet or so before you would have hit the floor. Your hearing slowly started to come back to, hearing the sounds of the crowd of onlookers clapping and cheering on the masked vigilante.

“Hey.” Your head snapped over to him once he finally spoke, both of your chest heaving rapidly.

“Hey.” You smiled.

“We need to stop meeting like this.” He joked, and you didn’t have to see his face under his mask to know his smile widened when you let out a shaky laugh at the quip.

“Can you put me down now Mr.Spider-Man?” You asked with a small giggle, readjusting your arms around his neck, now he was the one who let out a shaky chuckle.

“Right , right…” he mumbled before he started to lower you both down, gently helping you to your feet, expecting him to do the same, but instead he just flipped himself upside down as he hung from the red web in front of you.

And you weren’t sure if it was the post-almost dying adrenaline rushing through your bloodstream, or if it was your mind being clouded by the utter most gratefulness at the fact that he had saved you from death’s clutches more then once, but you did something you’d never do if you were thinking 100% correctly, knowing you’ll probably be embarrassed by the actions when your replaying the memories late at night in bed, but right now, that wasn’t gonna stop you. The crowd or the news choppers watching you wasn’t gonna stop you either.

So, taking in a deep breath for courage, you go to bring your hand up to his face and dip your finger under his mask and lifting it just above his nose. You had paused for a second once your hands traveled to rest on either side of his still covered temples, just to give him the ability to recover the lower half of his face and pushed you away if he wanted, and you were really expecting him too. But instead, you watched as his plump lips pulled up (down?) into a small smirk, taking this as your greenlight, you leaned forward, letting your lips meet.

You finally understood what authors meant when they would write about feeling fireworks. You finally understood why rom-com movies would play grand music during the main characters sharing a kiss. Your heart swells as your eyes closed, you felt like you could kiss Spider-Man forever. You really want to.

“Get it spidey!”

“That’s (Y/N), isn’t it?”

“Oh my god it is!”

The comments from the still watching crowd brought you down from high, cheeks redding as you heard a random stand-byer let out a whistle. Suddenly reminding you of your shameless act as you pulled away from the upside down spider, who only let out an amused chuckle as he pulled down his mask again, it coming out a bit breathless due to him still recovering from the kiss/fight.

You go to whip your mouth as you finally turn away from him, and you immediately spot Mj and Pete at the front of the metal fence that the police had placed to keep the crowd away from the whole ordeal. Your embarrassed smile only widens when you say his hand resting on her waist.

Miguel’s smile had never been wider when he walked back into his shared room, his brother already sprawled on his own bed as he fumbled and fidgeted with a rubix cube. Glancing at his brother when he heard the door click close.

“Wonder what’s got you all smiles? Would it happen to be a certain kiss from a certain girl?” Gabriel teased, his smirk causing Miguel to roll his eyes.

“I don’t know what you're talking about.” Miguel quipped, pulling his windbreaker off and tossing it in the hamper.

“Don’t play dumb Mig, it’s all over the news and the internet.” Gabriel scoffed as he placed the incomplete cube on his chest, before propping himself up on his elbows. “What happened to hating her?”

Now it’s the elder of the two to scoff. “I still do.”

“Then why didn’t you stop her?”

“Well- I didn’t want to embarrass her! There was a crowd and news crews-“

Gabriel fully sits up on his bed. “Just admit it Miguel! You don’t hate her! Hell, you're probably in love with her!”

“I’m not taking this crap. I’m going out for a walk.” Miguel grumbled before getting up from his seat on his own bed, his brother only rolling his eyes at his dramatics. It wasn’t until he closed the door after stepping out of his dorm that it hit him like a freight train.

Gabriel was right. He didn’t hate you as much as he liked to lead on…

tldr they end up adopting a grub as old ladies and their daughter grows up to be a normie prep against all odds (chronic "raised by grandma" syndrome)

spider dragon is The Baby of the extended family network of my postgame au, because . . . most of the people who were going to have kids did so in their late 20s/early 30s and not in their mid-50s(? who fucking knows how troll lifespans work point is vriska and terezi are gleeful old hags & loving it) which means she has a lot of older cousins and second cousins(? children of cousins) close enough in age for her to consider them cousins. unfortunately being surrounded by old people means she's a nerd from birth. and because she's a troll being raised by Literal Gods/Actual Alternian Trolls instead of a lusus like normal ppl, she's already somewhat isolated from other kids her age.

it turns out the reason no lusus would take her as a grub is that spider is a teal-cerulean cusper; a natural variation in troll genetics that only becomes a problem in cases where they're so smack in the middle of blood colors that no lusus of either caste will bond to them (or, worse, when a lusus of each caste bonds to a cusper---the two lusii will attempt a fight to the death on sight, which is obviously very upsetting for all parties involved). she doesn't have cerulean mind powers, nor does she have whatever psychic gift teals can develop (smellovision?). on alternia, she would have probably died or been culled for being a mutant, but on earth C she pretty much lives a normal life because 1) kanaya didn't know cuspers were a thing until spider dragon came along (& doesn't cull healthy grubs on principle) and 2) earth C does not have much stratification along the hemospectrum, if any.

spider only became aware of her cusper status as an adult. vriska and terezi were both like "huh, that explains a lot," and never brought it up again. spider also only became aware of how unusual vriska and terezi's relationship is as a teenager and young adult---it's almost like the serket-pyrope relationship is beyond quadrants compared to normal troll dating. very odd to find out that not only are your parents gay by human standards, but also by troll standards. as if uncle karkat hasn't been trying to explain that literally every time they get together. someone has to give this young troll a proper education of romance, discretely arranged in four non-overlapping emotional spheres. she probably still has some of the helpful charts he made for her tucked away somewhere.

anyway she is a private school kid because of course vriska's daughter is getting the 8est education money can buy, and of course terezi's daughter is going to an ivy league school with an excellent law program. never mind that she majors in history. it's fine. terezi's not disappointed at all that earth C's best mind just went into alternian studies instead of criminal law. it's. fine.

one part headcanons one part this is just how they are in my AU probably—uh... watching a parade? idk actually. i just. drew them.

because... i felt like it.... there are still missing characters because spider-man has five million supporting characters which is truly both a blessing and a curse (also like, i didn't include any foes or villains lmao but rest assured at least two of peter's rogues are queer...)

i decided this is like 2019 or something for?? no real reason other than i guess a lot of the adults finally being out or whatever... idk... that would make peter and his friends around 30-32 on average (well no felicia would be like 34) so still youngish but also definitely Adults™...

the kids are meant to be late teens early 20s but drawing that very specific age group is like, way difficult... also all the youths are short compared to peter's friend group of exclusively 5'9" to 6' people XD (well gwen and harry are shorter so i guess it's fine XD)

some of these are more firm than others. like. should randy be straight? i dunno. is aunt may straight or are all the alive parkers bisexual lmao? idk. what about literally all of the teenagers except andi? i have no clue and a lot of the stuff with them is waaaay later and I am not anywhere close to, so i just put them all in rainbows cause why not! but i do think janine is a token heterosexual in this instance lmao—see, not ALL of my AU versions of characters are queer, just most of them

obviously felicia and peter are bisexual and flash is... probably also bi? but i'm really still not sure... but she is trans :) and they're probably poly together but even after writing man-spider i'm genuinely... not actually sure if felicia is peter and flash's girlfriend or not 😂 they've got SOMETHING going on with the three of them but what it is, idk... i think peter is definitely polyamorous regardless, it's just a question of whether their relationship is or not.

i made his tie teal satin because of the teal ribbon for sexual assault awareness. but just a hint, cause i don't think he would be comfortable being public about that. he's out and proud as a bi jewish dude with a trans wife but he's really not out about being a survivor to anyone except a few very close and trusted friends/family. similar for kaine. so a teal necktie is just something for him. he's been through a lot in his life but he's happy 🙂

Liz will def be out as a lesbian by the late 20-teens though cause I think she starts exploring her sexuality w/in 3-4 years after she and harry get divorced... also cause i thought it would be funny if liz and lily (who i did not draw) hooked up LOL

i didn't draw the babies because i ran out of steam for that but they would be... what... i think normie might actually be in like 5th grade or something at this point now that i think about it... stanley would be like... 5 though

Hobie is bisexual almost entirely because when I read the newspaper strip and the prowler showed up, he and Peter were giving me Flirtation Vibes so he is bi, and also punk because I enjoy the aesthetic Spider-Punk has going on, so even though that's not going to be a thing in this universe, I still like to make some little nods to it. also it just feels like a fun combo. he's a kind of alt guy, he's not very straight, he's not very normal, he's had issues in his life trying to figure out who he wants to be... it feels like it just fits well... i like it

he gets MORE punk AFTER college and shaves half his head etc. (instead of having his twist-out), which is funny to me but you know, it takes time to figure shit out sometimes... i didn't draw his girlfriend Mindy (wife? idk if/when they get married in this AU...) cause like i said, omg, so many people to draw... also idk if she's like, straight or what. probably? there's gotta be SOME straight people XD how does she feel about hobie's fro-hawk...? hmm

Ben is bisexual... like Peter. They both prefer women to some extent, but they have slightly different tastes (...well maybe not SO different) and Ben is more uh, subby? LOL—at least with Janine. Switchy. Unlike Peter, Ben has/had? a crush on Robbie LMAO but that's more of a like, mentor/mentee admiration kind of thing... not like a "i wanna make out with you" situation. Robbie is far too old for him. and also happily married.

In my notes I have that Ben was ofc also abused by Warren but a lot of his was medical and psychological (some physical as well), but... i would think there is an undercurrent of medical sexual abuse there nonetheless esp as much of this w/ warren hinges on sexual power dynamics and control, but i won't get into that here as it's partly still being developed and I don't want to get TOO heavy on this post lol

Kaine is, like I mentioned, a little complex and i'm not 100% sure about (also aracely painted his nails) I think that he's ~bi/pan in general? but maybe not? could be only into men? or not into anyone at all. but the thing about Kaine in this universe is that he's got a difficult relationship with sex and sexuality because of what he was put through by Warren, so while I don't necessarily think he's asexual I do think in this universe he's a little bit sex-averse or sex-repulsed and has a difficult time dealing with that stuff. He also just really desperately wants to be loved and he doesn't care who as long as it's someone, which is toxic in a lot of ways i think... being around Aracely would imo help him a lot in coming to terms with having like, normal, platonic, non-sexual, non-romantic, healthy (or at least healthier) interpersonal relationships, and understanding things like that... idk where he's at by 2019 though, mental health-wise... but yeah i wasn't really sure what colors or patterns to put on his clothes so i went with the dark purple and gray tones since they are the kind of common recurring colors on a lot of ace-spec flags including repulsion and related stuff.

as a sidenote as someone who has a kind of aro and ??? relationship w/ my own bisexuality etc. (idk if i consider myself ace necessarily but it's not totally irrelevant) i also don't want to like, Just Make Him Ace because trauma (but obv betty is aro at least) cause it's not that simple etc etc etc but also there absolutely are people who consider themselves asexual from trauma or for whom it's informed by trauma (though trauma would inform any aspect of interpersonal relationships, of course, and for kaine it does)... idk idk kaine is always like, much to think about for me. He's def not like... "normal" in the eyes of cishet patriarchal culturally christian society. I mean he's disabled for one thing,

ofc peter has many similar traumas esp after meeting kaine and HE'S def not asexual (though peter is also disabled)

idk idk i am always thinking about it and never quite sure. kaine has a very complex and largely negative relationship with his body.

i was also considering genetic mosaicism (46,XY/47,XXY) but i did not include any intersex colors etc. because a lot of this wasn't fully hammered out yet when i drew this. I think Kaine is probably intersex though. It's not necessarily obvious to anyone who looks at him, but it's also not something that comes as a huge surprise to him.

obvs the tiny hint of a teal ribbon is the same as for Peter, sexual assault/abuse awareness, and it's small and easily hidden. probably was given to him by someone trying to be supportive (ben and janine maybe? idk)—i mean ALL of it is from other people really. the sticker on the noise cancelling headphones? def from Aracely or someone else. his presence in the first place? dragged out of the house by a 19 year old girl. he didn't even have time to do his hair and he would rather be drinking coffee in a dark room alone :/

Anyway, Janine. Less complicated.

I decided at some point Janine is straight (but not narrow, as they say) so she gets an ally shirt lol. Like Peter and Kaine, I put her in some teal including a little ribbon bow on some satin ballet flats—obviously her history as a sexual abuse survivor etc. is very, very public in contrast to peter and kaine (and arguably ben, though i don't think he necessarily conceptualizes his abuse by warren in the same way, in part because it was very medicalized) but... it's not like she would want to draw a lot of attention to that. but i also do just like teal so i think it looks nice.

like those are just genuinely cute shoes 😂 but also it's to tie it all together.

i really don't... feel like i know enough about them to figure out sexualities or if any genders are involved, and I'm a million years away from including them in any fics so a lot of that stuff simply has not been built out right now cause finer details aren't relevant to me yet (like. i'm in 2007 rn? miles is like... 8. lmao), so I just put them in some fun rainbow-y stuff. teens like going to pride and wearing rainbows right??? i mean i did.

i'm SURE miles and ganke have got something going on i just don't know What Exactly. nerdy friends...? nerdy boyfriends?? something else??? miles is wearing a tracksuit to hide his spider-man costume lol.

aracely is an enigma, i don't think anyone knows what's going on with her tbh. she is there to have candy thrown at her. she seems to like boys at least a little though.

i actually do know what's up with Andi cause she's actually supposed to first appear in 200...8? when she's like. 10. she is trans, and she is also why Flash was able to accept herself more and also why Flash transitioned. Flash wanted to be a good role model to help Andi feel good about herself and to not make her feel like there was something wrong with her, and then later re: transitioning, Flash saw how happy Andi was and wanted to also... be happy like that even though she was scared. and Andi herself really was (will be, idk i never know what tense to use for this stuff) helped a lot by Flash trying to self-improve, by having a supportive babysitter, and a dad who loves her, and so on and so forth... makes a big difference!

Andi and Flash are kind of intentional contrasts here in that, where Flash took until her late 20s to really fully be able to accept herself, Andi is the kid who goes on puberty blockers in high school and knew right away she wasn't what everyone said she was. (Flash had like, hints of that, but really didn't even realize until around ~19 years old and wasn't able to act on it for like... 9 years whereas Andi just really got motoring lol)

As far as Betty! I wasn't sure about her at first but I was chatting with Kita and I was like, thinking about her relationships and stuff and thinking, you know, she seems kinda aro... and then i was like... I can just do that. If I want. So I did. so now Betty is aromantic (at least, in my little alternate universe) and ALSO bisexual 😂 Peter's social circle is just a bunch of quirky bisexuals. bi4bi4bi

also dolled the fuck up. Betty said "overdressed? i don't know her. a pearl necklace goes with everything." (...😜)

I also am not sure about Randy (he also just has not come up yet i guess...) but I was thinking, you know, IDK, maybe he's straight as well. two whole straight people. i know he's dated a couple of girls in 616 (...i mean... so have most of the male characters lol) including like, Norah... but I'm not 100% sure what I would do there. I did end up making him a little bit of a hipster 😂 he's probably like... heteroflexible or smth... 🤔

Maybe Randy is ALSO bisexual??? or queer of some flavor.............. at least seems to KNOW about community stuff

Long ago, a drop of moonlight on a misty night fell from the sky and produced a magic flower called the blue spider lily that was said to have healing properties.

A notorious man named Kokushibo hid the flower and used it to retain his youth and beauty. Centuries later, the flower was taken by soldiers from the nearby kingdom of Corona and used to save their pregnant and ailing Queen, who gave birth to a son with teal hair, named Muichiro. Kokushibo snuck into the castle and discovered that Muichiro's hair had inherited the flower's magic, but turns brown and powerless when cut.

To keep the flower's magic, Kokushibo kidnapped Muichiro and now raises him in a hidden tower in the woods. Each year on their daughter's birthday, the king and queen release sky lanterns hoping they will guide her home.

Meanwhile, thief Genya Shinizugawa, steals Muichiro's intended crown from the palace; to prove to his older brother who abadoned him that he was useful. He is then relentlessly pursued by a infamous guard-horse brothers named the Hantengu. Genya discovers and takes refuge in the tower, where Muichiro, of course knocks him out with a frying pan and hides him in a closet. When Muichiro attempts to show him to Kokushibo as proof she can defend herself, he forgets (because its of couse) and Muichiro instead asks for a sword as a gift, sending Kokushibo on a three-day journey.

Genya then reveals himself again, causing Muichiro to nearly knock him out once more. However Muichiro hides the crown, and strikes a deal with Genya, promising to return it in exchange for him taking her to see the lanterns, since Muichiro has always been obsessed with them. A companionship is formed.

or in a more cracky sense, lets look at some incorrect quotes I made that sum up this story.

Genya climbing up the tower: Who are you? Muichiro weilding a pan: a fair maiden of course

and

Genya: You dont remember me? Muichiro: No? Genya: You knocked me out with a pan and hid me in a closet. Muichiro: Oh yeah *raises his pan again* Genya: no no No NO!

and

Kokushibo: Muichiro is my son, but also my descendent. Kokushibo: But he sometimes forgets the last part Genya: I would want to forget that too.

On a more sweeter note, just imagine Genya brushing out Muichiro's long hair! And then braiding flowers and spider lilies into the teal of his strands.

Oh and since I've started the rough drafts of them, here's some info on the 12 disciples in my au. No I did not mean to make 12 it just sorta happened. I also want you to note that all but two had the same thought of "holy shit that's a child" when they met Eden and that's the main reason they decided to become followers in the first place to make sure he would be ok.

This is just some rough info to act as some backround

WARNING THIS IS LONG AS SHIT, MY APOLOGIES!

Starting off with canon(?) sort of characters we have:

-Webber, he/they/we: spider character from the game don't starve who was added during a collab to cotl. the youngest and a disciple in training. We first meet him at age 8 and is the last to come along. Life has been extended

-Haru, he/him: the yellow cat from the one animated short. Was a priest of leshys until he fought the lamb on a crusade and lost. Was brought back after realizing how much was censored about the slaughter of the sheep and asked if he could redeem himself. Age 24 and was the third last to become a disciple. Immortal

Now we have the not Canon characters who I have in my actual save file. I will also share their silly ridiculous names I have for them in game since I am atrocious at being serious.

-Mamer, he/him, has always been Mamer: a teal rabbit and the first follower and disciple of Edens. He was taken in by the compound that eden was born in and swore himself to protecting whoever was to become the prophesied lamb. Was captured by cultists a week before Edens execution and was about to be sacrificed when ratau and eden found him on the way to the compound. Taught eden how to fight and the traditional boxing style of the sheepfolk. Current grounds keeper. In game this man goes on hella missions and is responsible for at least 20 followers. Age 32, immortal.

-Clement, he/they, Friend Traitor in game: a big, surly orange tabby cat. He and his sister Cerise came as a pair and were found in the ruins of a village in darkwood, rummaging through their belongings to see if anything was salvageable. They had been taken temporarily on orders from kallamars clergy to aid in the construction of one of the wings of his temple. While they were away, their village started refusing to give anymore of their materials to the bishops so an attack was ordered on it. When they came back everything was gone. Both Clement and Cerise became disciples at the same time and became disciples second. Clement taught Eden how to build. Clements the head of the builders hut. In game they're just a silly feller with a silly name and I love them. Age 30, immortal

-Cerise, she/her, Amigo Treachery in game: a red and that's more magenta coloured. I said quite a bit of her backstory with Clement but the difference is that she runs the stonemines and lumberyard and taught Eden how to find and gather quality materials while on Crusading. She works in lumberyard mostly in game too but she also spends a fair amount of time at the shrine. Age 29, immortal

-Ellis, they/them, Taxes in game: a rosy maple moth and the third disciple. They were captured by helob while in darkwood and was a day away from being eaten when eden found them and bought their freedom. They had offered to walk Ellis back home but they had decided after working in Shamuras treasury for most of their life they didn't really have anything worthwhile to get back to and so decided to go back to the compound with the lamb and now work as the treasurer and tax collector. In game they're tax enforcer but otherwise kind of unremarkable. Age 34, immortal.

-Finley, she/her, Pæňïş in game (truly terrible name I'm so sorry girl): a raspberry colored raccoon and the fourth disciple along side Merrick, as they came in a pair. Both Finley and Merrick were apart on the Fox' cult and were cannibals for most of their lives. They only left after their fellow cultists turned against them while on a hunting trip. Eden found them an inch away from death and surrounded, and after killing the remaining heretics they took the two back to the compound to heal. After learning the two's story, Eden offered them a chance to redeem themselves and turn their lives around with the caveat that the cannibalism stops. They agreed and joined as followers, and earned their discipleship. Finley's the head cook and is the overseer of all the dietary restrictions, while her fellow workers take care of the compound at large. Despite the cannibalism she's actually quite lovely and very personable. Her and Merrick are just good friends and bonded after their mutual betrayal. In game I send her on missions quite a bit since her stats are good. Age 27, immortal.

-Merrick, he/him, originally Marth (my best friends a fire emblem fan and requested it. Personality doesn't match): a blue fox and the fourth disciple along side Finley. Backround info is above. He's sparky and snappish with a bit of a temper but is very good humored and lovely to be around. His job is the head butcher with a very lucrative side gig of disposing of dissenters. The lamb DOES allow the pair to partake in the occasional heretic or dissenter but by and large they both just eat regular meat now. His in game role is kept empty but he's usually the first to get to the drinkhouse when I need stuff made so there's that. Age 27, immortal.

-Azalea, she/they, was lovingly named *DJ sounds*, pronounced however the hell you want: a black koi fish and the fifth disciple. Originally from Anura and was apart of the lighthouse keeper cult. Was found calling for help just outside the cult after getting injured on the way home. Eden took them to the med bay to get patched up since the scope of the injuries was a little outside of their skill set and escorted them home once they were all fixed. They ended up going back with Eden anyway after they relit the lighthouse (they had been getting wood and Eden had firestarter on them). Her job is loyalty enforcer and assists the grounds keeper in keeping the place safe. Due to the decreased amount of heretics+high faith levels, they more just act as a welcome crew for new members and trains people in self defense. She's hard headed and blunt, and can be rude at times, but she has good intentions and has a soft spot for those close to her. Very sweet and patient with kids, less kind to adults. In the game she's also a loyalty enforcer and I desperately wish you could hide that fuckass hat. Age 28, immortal.

-Nimah, he/him, is Sonic because I had to: an albino hedgehog since I don't wanna make it SO obvious that it's just sonic. He is the sixth disciple and used to be a postman between all of the merchants and settlements outside of bishop control. He always wanted to be a doctor and kept an eye out for medical texts on his travels. He didn't have much luck in that regard until he came to deliver something to the compound and was kept there by a storm. Him and Eden got to chatting and after telling them about this little quest, Eden told him that while there's none at the compound that they could think of, they pick up books all the time while on crusades and could keep an eye out for any. One handshake and a new friend later, Nimah slowly studied and practiced to become a doctor until they got the title of head doctor. Taught some cultborn folks to do the mail route and now spends his days in the med bay. In game his only purpose is to be sonic and nothing else. His existence makes me happy :]. Age 53, immortal.

-Rowan, she/her, JAzz (I fucked up): a crow and the seventh disciple. Was a shrine maiden for Heket, and was trusted enough to be given the uncensored prophecy. After hearing it and making the very uncomfortable realization that they've all been praying for the downfall of a) an innocent race and b) a child, she dissented and fled to the cult to offer her services. Was a thief for a while, but was taken in by some followers of Heket and changed her ways. Was the second follower but had a hard time accepting the gift of discipleship for a while there. Very sweet and soft spoken, very good at quiet rage. In game she's on worship duty and is a very pretty lady and I love her. Age 30, immortal

-Florian, zey/zem/zer, named Alright in game: a silk moth and the eighth disciple. Was a primary weaver in Shamura's coterie for a good century. Zey were delivering tapestries to the main temple of Leshy when zer convoy was attacked by bandits and zey were left hiding and bleeding out. Eden found zem and took them back to their own temple since the med bay didn't exist at that point. When zey awoke, zey found zemselves bandaged in an unfamiliar place with someone they didn't recognize standing near them. Zey were suspicious until zey realized that that is a child zey were thinking of attacking, and that child is holding a med kit in their hands. Zey end up calming down and once zer'e healed, Florian offers to make a proper outfit befitting a vessel of death since zey don't like feeling like zer in debt. Eden agrees to this and they end up becoming friends, with Florian offering zer continued service in exchange for stable living. Zer personality is flamboyant but not loud. I personally imagine zer personality to be akin to one of those mob wives with the smoke pipe and the long satin feather robes. In game this fella was so unremarkable zey died of old age at level 1. Also zey get neos because I think they have so much gender that they/them simply doesn't cut it, although I understand if you use they/them for zem, it's a bit tricky to get used to. Age 33, immortal.

Spider-Man AU Stuff

So, I joked a while back about having a Spider-Man AU... I wasn’t joking. My poor mutuals have been stuck listening to rants about this the entire time. So here’s some stuff from it!

Johnny as Spider-Man and Jimmy as the main villain.

The Theatre Troupe met years earlier but still with a singing competition.

Johnny is the one who ends up arresting his dad and uncles.

Nooshy acts as “person in the chair” and is Johnny’s adopted older sibling.

Rosita finds out Johnny’s identity on accident after he starts staying with her.

The Theatre Troupe all being huge Spider-Man conspiracy people.

The Redshore Trip still happens but the singing competition in Sing 1 is replaced by a regular show.

Johnny did not know about the gang before catching them.

The Spider Suit is teal, black, and silver + the leather jacket and skateboard.

Ryan is still a dancer but also and English student trying to do a paper on modern heroism.

Clay figures out Spider-Man’s identity after like 12 seconds.

Potential alternate names instead of just Spider-Man are Skate Spider and Song Spider.

This would span the events of an altered Sing 1 and Sing 2.

Okay, so I have some wips in the works but this AU ambushed me suddenly and wouldn't leave me alone so I'm getting it out of the way so I can get back to my other stuff. I've seen some Sun Varian stuff around but they all had him with short hair so I decided to make my own version where Varian has long hair that he ties up into a "web" in the rafters and likes dropping down to spook Gothel while hanging from his hair upside-down like a spider. I also gave him red hair like his mom because Rapunzel, when her hair was cut, greatly resembled her mom so I did the same for him. He's a little prankster with cabin-fever and ADHD that is way too curious and too smart for his own good. Also, I swapped his and Rapunzel's ages. Next up, Rapunzel from this AU! She's gonna have black hair and a teal stripe.

I finally said fuck it and started working on a Spiderman RvB au

Tucker gets his spider powers the summer before college. Tucker then starts college and meets his roommate Caboose, and their room is next to Tucker’s childhood best friend (although no one believes they’re best friends because they’re always fighting) Church. Church’s dad owns and runs a well known company that does a lot of scientific research where a lot of upperclassmen from their college (the freelancers) tend to intern at. Tucker, Caboose, and Church have a bit of a prank war going with some of their neighbors, Grif, Simmons, Donut, and Doc.

Doc eventually gets the symbiote O’Malley

I think Wash might also be roommates or something with the blues even though he’s an upperclassmen so both teams have 4 people in the dorms. I was considering Tex at first since she joins the team sooner than Wash, but no way would Church’s dad allow that (Church’s dad is the director and I’m thinking he’s like this universe’s Norman Osborn)

This turned out longer than three sentences; I don’t know how...

...

As Spider-Man, Peter Parker has seen magic before, and probably knows what to say to the group of people standing before him.

"Hi, I’m Peter. So, you’re, like, superheroes too? Friendly neighborhood... magical family?" His voice trails off a bit as he watches the doors behind the family flap, seemingly of their own volition. “Whoa, cool house.”

The stocky man and the boy who might be about Peter’s age exchange skeptical glances, while the elderly woman steps forward, clearing her throat and staring Peter down. In her eyes, he must appear like a total weirdo, a teenage boy wearing a strange skin-tight outfit with some kind of... spider motif. At least his face is visible.

“Somos los Madrigal. ¿Quién es?”

“Oh, boy,” Peter breathes. He’d made an assumption. “Right. Spanish. Time to make Señora Torres proud.”

He proceeds to search his memory for the word for neighborhood. As he does, the girl with dark curly hair and big green glasses steps forward. She takes the elderly woman’s arm and whispers to her. It’s much too fast for him to follow, but he thinks he hears “Casita.”

The old woman looks vulnerable and austere at the same time as she sighs and inclines her head toward the girl, who waves at Peter to get his attention.

“Este... ¿Habla español?”

“Um,” Peter replies. “Sí? Pero. No hablo español, er, muy bien.” He pauses. Introductions are still in order. “Also, hola, me llamo Peter.”

The girl smiles despite his bumbling. Some of the other members of her family have begun to smile too: the woman in a teal dress who bears a strong resemblance to her, the youngest child with a toucan perched on his shoulder. A couple of them, like the small, tired-looking man in a green poncho, who’s hovering near the boy with the toucan, are regarding him with quite anxious, yet steady, expressions.

“Soy Mirabel,” the girl is saying. A quick pucker of her lips indicates the constellation of people around her. “Mi familia, los Madrigal. Y... el Encanto.” She spreads her arms wide.

“Peter,” Mirabel continues, a bit shyly, with a glance at the elderly woman and the subtly nodding woman in the teal dress. “¿Tiene... hambre?” Above her, the house’s shingles bounce (Ohh, ‘Casita,’ Peter realizes).

“Sure— Uh, bien. I mean, sí. Gracias.” If he ever gets home, at least he’ll be able to assure Aunt May that he was a polite guest.

“Venga, Peter,” the woman in teal says.

With that, he starts to follow this magical family, the Madrigals, into their magical house.

I also could’ve written it like, Bruno had a vision of Spider-Man’s arrival 🤔 Ah well. Also: Modern AU? Spider-Man time-travel? Who knows!

Rating: 3/5

Thoughts: Comic collections can be hit or miss as far as feeling like they tell a complete story, and this one is especially disjointed. It sets up the major conflict for Gwen, dumps her in an alternate dimension with a new problem to solve, and then resolves the initial conflict off-page. If you haven't read Spider-Geddon (which I haven't, but I got the gist), it's like talking around a thing without ever actually naming it. All we see is build-up and fallout, with no actual turning point. The alternate universe problem gets more attention and development, and I enjoyed the quick-paced mystery there.

However, I think you can and probably should read it for the characters, Gwen in particular. I enjoy her sassy dialogue and her commitment to her friends, as well as to facing trauma and offering what closure she can when they lose teammates. I really love the Gwen/Peter/MJ/Harry friend group of the AU (and a female Green Goblin--such a McGuire move), and I wish we got more of that with our Gwen. She's such a sad character here. The artwork is probably my favorite thing about the collection. It's absolutely beautiful, and I love the purple/pink/teal color palette. I'm hoping the next volume feels a little more complete.

Abilities

Pincer Claws and Pincer Grip

As a scorpion man, Brock has a pair of arms with pincers instead of hands, these pincers have a very strong grip, strong enough to break wood and glass even.

Venomous Sting

As with all scorpions, his stinger is full of venom that injects into the victim when stung. Fortunately, it's not fatal but it does cause temporary paralysis of the victim, the time the side effects last for depend on how much venom was injected into the victim. This is often involuntarily done as part of Brock's "startle reflex".

Prehensile Tail

Unless he is startled, Brock can control his tail to act as an extra appendage.

Wall Scaling

Brock can freely walk, or most specifically, crawl, through surfaces, walls and the ceiling without falling.

Bioluminescence

Just like other scorpions, Brock's body will glow a neon blue when under ultraviolet light.

Brock can assign his arms different tasks and divide his attention between them, however he finds it difficult to do this mostly because of his short attention span, as well as being extremely tiring.

Brock is a talented writer, especially when writing stories, his favorite being mystery stories.

Personality

Brock is laid-back, gentlemanly, and charismatic, he is kind and helpful to others as well. It actually rather difficult to make him angry, it takes a lot to piss him off. He loves his girlfriend, Wydowna Spider with all of his heart and while not all that into fighting, is willing to protect her should the need arise. In fact, insulting Wydowna is one of if not the only way to anger him.

Brock does have a short-attention span, mainly for things that don't fully hold his attention. He can also get wrapped up in his hobbies that he forgets his own needs sometimes. He can also be quite the people-pleaser, though he is not above putting boundries for certain things (such as when Dawn suggested he write a gruesome bad ending to one of his stories, which he refused to do.), There also times where he can be indecisive as well.

Trivia/Additional Information

As he had spent his early years in the dessert, Brock did not know what rain and snow was for years. It wasn't until his family moved to New Salem when he was in 3rd grade that he first witnessed rain and snow. He thought the sky was crying when he first saw rain for the first time.

He and Deuce met each other on a rainy day in 3rd grade, it was Deuce who told him what rain was.

The buckle on Brock's belt is the symbol of the Akkadian Empire, where Scorpion Men were first introduced in myths.

The choice to make Brock's favorite color Teal came from the color scorpions glow under ultraviolet light.

His last name "Chelicerata" comes from the subdivision of the phylum "Arthopodia", which includes animals such as arachnids like scorpions and spiders.

His headcanon voice is Xander Mobus, specifically his voice for Sparkling Cookie from Cookie Run Kingdom.

Brock's hair is dyed, before he dyed it, it was blackish-brown.
