Yo
Romance recs?👀👀👀
For real, i've been looking for good romantic books but idk what to check out other than the bestsellers on goodresds and I'm tired of those rec lists. Do you have anything that comes to mind?
Bookwise:
Scifi:
-Ice Planet Barbarians, but everyone already knows that. No one talks about her Corsairs series that's equally as good-- think space pirates who find hot babes while just hanging around. I've also read Choosing Theo by Victoria Aveline, which isn't great, but you know what it is? Entertaining. Essentially some girl has been kidnapped and brought to another planet to be sold as a wife to someone, but before that can happen she runs off to the government and eventually joins their program where she gets to pick her husband from a line up of five or so men who have been training their whole lives to become beloved himbos. She chooses the ugliest and meanest one and he eventually learns how to be a tolerable being, there is a TW: for sexual assault but not from him, and I'll try not to completely spoil it for you in case you decide to read this book-- but the man goes through A MAGICAL GIRL TRANSFORMATION TO BECOME TWICE AS UGLY AND STRONG AT ONE POINT USING HIS MAGICAL GIRL GEMS. ICONIC.
Fantasy:
I loved Bridge Kingdom, it's falling off of recommendation lists lately but essentially the plot is this: she's there to marry him and then kill him. He's surprisingly not stupid.
Astonishing.
There's a lot of betrayal and violence in the books, but my god do I love them.
I also recently read Only a Monster, it's slower paced but my god is it interesting. It's got time travel and life stealing, enemies to lovers at every corner, and a somewhat likeable main character, which is the highest praise sometimes. Her main love interest kills her family in the first ten pages, and she decides she's not cool with that or dying herself and has to do something.
I'm in love with the Kanin triology by Amanda Hocking, which is like if troll dolls met vampire academy met one idiot heroine who was mistakenly given a knife. It's unhinged.
A Far Wilder Magic is boring as hell for the first half but really compelling characterwise and has the pretiest cover you'll ever see. It's got strong agatha christie vibes and I refuse to elaborate on it.
I HAVE BEEN READING THE VENYS NEEDS MEN SERIES AND MY GOD. Summary: Weredragons. The first human they touch is their lady and while they hate that for themselves, there they are, grumpy pieces of shit saddled with cutie pie girlies. My only complaint is that these men are constantly horny and my god I just want them to go like five chapters without touching themselves smh. But yeah there's a lot of in fighting with the women but it's more about them genuinely wanting to have a husband so that they can keep their tribes from dying out. Also in one book two girls freaking marathon sprint to touch a dragon first and it's hilarious.
Contemporary:
I can't in good conscious recommend the Deal by Elle Kennedy nor her Off Campus series because it's not the height of morals or anything and there's so many triggers in that series but I can say I read them all in three days nd then tried to convince myself I like hockey romance. They were fun but it turns out I do not and can't tell you shit about hockey.
The Roommate is about a woman who lives with a porn star even though she doesn't want to and while you might think it would be full of smut with that description, it's not and he helps her get over her hang ups about sex and reputation. Also he's really funny and gives off James Potter going through a bender vibes.

About Me
Hi there! This blog is dedicated to my main guy, Leo along with his family/friends and homeland.
Ooh boy, where do I start? Well first off I created Leo in November 11 years ago in 6th grade. He was my first OC, I used to have him be part of the Ninjago series when it first started but I've moved on from that and found my new love: Transformers Prime.
I now use Leo in that show by writing stories and making drawings.

My 2021 LGBT Reads So Far
I'm 12 books into 2021 and I'm here to talk about the best and the worst, the good the bad and the ugly. Under the Read More I'll be talking about Everyone on the Moon is Essential Personnel, The Prey of Gods, Silk and Steel, Maurice, and the Land Fit for Heroes Trilogy.
Content warnings for each book are included at the bottom of the page.
Everyone on the Moon is Essential Personnel by Julain K. Jarboe - Short Story collection with trans characters + trans author ★★★★☆
A collection of body-horror fairy tales and mid-apocalyptic Catholic cyberpunk stories about bodily autonomy and transformation, the importance of negative emotions, unhealthy relationships, and bad situations amidst the staggering and urgent question of how to build and nurture meaning, love, and safety in a larger world/society that might not be "fixable."
This collection was more than I expected. Admittedly I'm not usually drawn to short story collections, I find them difficult to enjoy due to their abruptness and disjointed narratives. But there's not a single story here that I didn't like for some reason or other. Despite how much they vary in topic and tone, I found something to like about all of them, and I'm having a hard time picking a favorite out of the bunch. Self Care, Estranged Children of Storybook Houses, and I Am A Beautiful Bug! stood out to me the most, but each story was its own whirlwind of emotion and ideas, to the point where I feel like I can't correctly put into words why I enjoyed this collection so much. It's weird and difficult and beautiful. It's an experience - at once painful, cathartic, freeing, and discomfiting. But a joy nonetheless. The coolest thing was seeing all these different trans experiences form different angles and perspectives. I'm very interested in keeping an eye on this author's future works.
The Prey of Gods by Nicky Drayden - Adult Scifi with M/M and a Transwoman MC ★★☆☆☆
In South Africa, a new hallucinogenic drug is sweeping the streets. At the same time, the makings of AI uprising start to gain traction, and an ancient demigodess hellbent on regaining her former glory makes plans to shake things up.
I liked this book at first. It was weird, in a way that I like things to be weird. I liked the variety of characters and their intertwining paths. I liked the story and the setting. But in the second half, weirdness turned to absurdity and I found myself slowly losing interest and immersion in whatever the hell was going on. I don't want to say this was a bad book, because I still enjoyed it overall, I just think it didn't align with my tastes very well at the end. The characters were still a joy, and I have to say I'm happy to see gay and trans characters existing in these kinds of strange and interesting stories. I'm excited to see our stories expanding in this direction.
Silk & Steel by Ariana Nash - Adult M/M Fantasy ☆☆☆☆☆
I didn't deign this book with a review when I finished it because I wanted to forget it as soon as possible. This book made me lose braincells. It made me question why I keep doing this. There's not a single thing about this book that I enjoyed, except for the concept. Desperate Elvin Assassin meets Miserable Dragon Prince? Sign me up! Or so I thought. Instead I got constant sexual assault out the wazoo, a weak plot, and characters I struggled to care about. To put it simply, not my cup of tea.
Maurice by E.M. Forester - Historical M/M Romance ★★★★★
A classic. But somehow I made it this far without having read it before. I went in without expectations and very little knowledge for what the story was about. Almost immediately I was hooked, and by the time I reached the second half I couldn't put it down. While it was a challenging read at times, I adored the story. The characters. The romance. The conflicts. The tone. The ending. This book left me feeling very good and I'm so thankful it exists.
A Land Fit For Heroes trilogy by Richard K. Morgan - Adult Fantasy with a Gay Male MC. rating: its complicated
Ringil Eskiath, enlisted by his estranged mother to find his missing cousin, embarks on a grumbling journey to track her down with only the sword on his back. At the same time, the gears of a bloody prophecy jolt into motion.
I liked the first book. I really did. I loved Ringil as a broody angry sword-weilding character fueled by revenge. I loved Archidi and all her knives. Egil was kind of gross from the start but I was willing to see where his progression would go. I should have known that when the sex scenes failed to be the least bit sexy, it was probably my subconscious trying to warn me the rest of the series would be just as much of a cocktease and eventual letdown. That I would be sitting there with an aching brain, a flaccid heart, and questions that would never be answered. This is one of the most disappointing series I've read in a long time, made all the more painful due to how much I loved the first book. I genuinely don't know what Morgan was thinking. But by the end of it I couldn't stand the pretentious, vague, boring dribble that everyone was reduced to. It's just bad writing, babe.

Tumblr media
Yowza, been awhile, tumblr! I’m using this opportunity to make a small announcement about where my projects are headed this year, specifically two of them, Greenbrier and MOONDANCE. I’m going to put it under a readmore in case anyone just wants to enjoy the Muse-Goddess of Healthy Productivity on her own.
People have probably noticed a drop off in how much art I produce in the last few months. Fact is I’ve been struggling a lot with how I feel about my own art. Not the technical aspects like the quality of inks/composition/etc, but the content. For pretty much my entire artistic life, I’ve cycled through the concept phases of projects without actually bringing in of them to term, and at this point I’ve grown very restless and tired of working in the realm of theory. I need to actually complete a story. This is made all the more difficult by the injury to my arm - docs say tendonitis, I guess I should believe them for now. Regardless of what it is, my dominant arm has been in daily pain and discomfort for over a year, which has made it very physically difficult to make art, compounded by my feelings of being unsatisfied with what I do manage to put out.
I thought the solution to this was to turn my focus to something completely new, go back to my “roots” and make a sci-fi story, but have found that the more I tinker with it, the more I realize I have to do and the more easily I become overwhelmed. It’s a hazard of the genre. I quickly realized that I had to thoughtfully construct everything from props and clothing to vehicles and weapons, for two distinct civilizations. All of which requires drafting time that I don’t think I can manage at the moment - not to mention figuring out the logistics of characters with transformative aspects of their designs. This is not an announcement that I’m canning the project. I’ve just accepted that it’s not something I can physically accomplish right now, and that I need to take a different approach to exploring the setting in a way that makes me feel fulfilled. My arm needs more time to heal, and the setting needs more time for me to get to know it. Right now it feels like a stew I keep adding “seasonings” to - by which I mean genres, scifi, fantasy, western, romance etc- but am still unhappy with the general “flavor”. While I’m pushing it to the backburner as a comic, I want to see how all of the characters interact with each other and their world in practice, not in theory. I want to know these characters better, and figure out what they need from me. This is kind of the blanket direction I want to move in for everything - I want to stop designing as much, and start making smaller, panel-sized illustrations of characters interacting with each other and their environments. Maybe short, sequential illustrations. Last years’ Artfight made me realize that this is achievable.
But, I still want to start a webcomic this year. It’s really important to me that I start something I can feasibly finish. So after a lot of introspection, I’ve decided to tackle something that’s physically easier for me to draw, already has a strong worldbuilding foundation that I’ve been working on for a couple of years, and that can be a shorter story with a much smaller cast of characters (you haven’t gotten to see most of them, but the MOONDANCE cast is enormous). It’ll probably excite some of you l to learn that I’ve decided to set this story in the world of Greenbrier, aka, that thing about rabbits, and that I’ll be incorporating several pre-existing characters into it (like Rumenthlay).
During this time I’ll also be exploring this setting with one-off illustrations while I’m working on the script for the first story. Really, the next few months are going to be an experimental period, and if you’re willing and able, I’d love to get a little more feedback on the art I make for GREENBRIER and MOONDANCE. What do you like about it, what do you want to see more of, what parts of the setting do you want to see explored, etc. Just keep it classy. Thank you for everyone’s patience, and I hope I make some fun stuff this year that we all, myself included, enjoy.

tumblr you need to stop deleting the question when i edit an ask:
What characters can you think of, that you like, fall under unhealthy obsessive romance?
Sit down we're gonna be here a while.
God is anyone gonna be surprised if I cite the yandere trope? Is anyone gonna cringe away if I say Gasai Yuno from Future Diary? No? We're all good? Okay.
Yandere characters are really hit or miss with me. Too often, I've seen yandere characters portrayed like their bloodlust, their willing to kidnap their beloved or kill potential romantic rivals, is working in tandem with their apparent sweet, affectionate, self-effacing devotion—rather than in contrast. Like a yandere character who's willing to draw blood is an exaggerated romantic ideal. I'm not about that. To me, a proper compelling yandere is a horror character disguised as a cute love interest.
Yuno pulls that off. Even as Yukki gets used to her and even begins to grow attracted to her, he still remains very reasonably terrified of what she might do—and his terror is validated by her actions. What really sells her for me, though, is the series's awareness of the arbitrary nature of her obsessive love. She flat-out tells Yukki, the target of her obsession, with shocking coldness and self-insight, that she doesn't love him because he's really that unique or special, but because he was there and she needed someone. When it feels like so many generic dull lead boys "win" the attentions of the cool interesting yandere for no obvious reason as a sort of wishfulfillment, Yuno's open acknowledgment of Yukki's plainness and the arbitrariness of her own affections would be a great deconstruction of common yandere tropes, if it wasn't for the fact that Yuno was basically the codifier of the modern yandere archetype.
Another character who hits all the right yandere notes is Tarantulas from the IDW Transformers comics. Mad scientist who makes wicked inventions for a high-ranked military officer who's rattled by the brutality they inflict together and terminates their professional relationship by attempting to terminate the scientist; scientist comes back from the apparent dead to kidnap the officer with the help of a gang of terrorists, blackmails him by threatening to reveal confidential information about the officer's army that could tear it apart from the inside and that the officer has gone to great lengths to keep hidden, reveals that he's invented a way to make enemy soldiers effectively invisible and untraceable, and shows off his secret lab powered by a devastatingly powerful superfuel that he's invented... and then reveal he doesn't want revenge, but for the officer to be his partner in crime again, and all these wonders will be used FOR him instead of AGAINST him. He calls the officer his "muse," and feels like he can't reach his peak scientific potential without the officer there, requesting new weapons and acting as his inspiration.
He's willing to burn down the universe if his muse wants it or burn down the universe if his muse scorns him, he kidnaps him just to beg him to be his partner, and he does all this despite the fact that the officer destroyed his life work and tried to kill him. It's fantastically messed up.
Moving away from the yandere archetype: Venom—comics Venom, from their intro through the 90s and then again once Mike Costa got hold of them—is a fantastic obsessive love story, about two people who reject everything that both of their societies defines as normal and acceptable in order to be with each other, and are incredibly tender and affectionate and mutually supportive; but like, they also validate each other's worst beliefs and tendencies in a way that lets them egg each other on into oblivious villainy, and even if "live with and for one and only one person, literally in 24/7 physical contact," is normal and psychologically healthy for the symbiote's species, it's not for a human being. Impressively, they're SO obsessively codependently in love with each other, that they each independently decide that they want to be the best possible versions of themselves for each other, and violently wrest their relationship from the jaws of toxicity in order to become an emotionally mature couple with a support system, outside friends, and the ability to communicate about their fears and insecurities, and it's a beautiful thing. It's too bad nobody's written anything with Venom since Mike Costa's run ended, but I'm sure someone will bring them back around eventually.
The knight-in-love-with-their-liege trope is one that appeals to me in theory, but in practice I basically never see it written as zealously as I'd like, so I usually have to headcanon it up myself. Pearl in Steven Universe is the only solid canon example I can think of that hits all the right notes for me.
Not strictly canon but: Drift from Transformers, who goes from grim street rat survivalist to bloodthirsty mass murderer to repentant ninja vigilante to faux-spiritual warrior with weird flashes of extreme violence while under the wing of four different mentor/leader figures, I like to interpret as a serial zealot whose repeatedly shifting morals and loyalties have nothing to do with his newest leader actually convincing him of the righteousness of their perspective, and everything to do with Drift's becoming smitten with their charisma and being willing to reinvent himself completely to conform with his new beloved leader's worldview. Drift's last writer even ship teased him pretty heavily with leader #4 (for any of y'all that don't read Transformers: not like "ship teased" in a queerbaity way, Drift eventually hooked up with a different dude), and he's shown to go out of his way to perform roles that he thinks will impress leader #4; so like, there's some canon basis to read him like that—even if my main reason is "because I want to."
I also like to slip in shades of knight-loves-leader in how I write Zim being shipped with a Tallest; the unhealthy, destructive obsession with them is definitely canon, even if the romance isn't.
"Characters that are otherwise emotionless for scifi/fantasy reasons except for ONE emotion and that emotion is love and therefore they get really obsessed with their love because it's the only thing in their void of a life, but it's not portrayed in a cutesy 'robot learns to feel' or 'demon is saved by love' way but rather in a 'this is almost as unbalanced and unhealthy as not feeling anything at all was' way" is like... a trope that I keep writing but don't think I've ever actually seen done EXACTLY like that in canon. The Nobodies in Kingdom Hearts are good for this—I've written them as having meaningless sex to try to counter the fact that they can't feel emotions, on the justification that sexual arousal is a physiological sensation rather than an actual emotion but is still close enough that they can almost feel a feeling, and end up getting extremely attached to their cooperative let's-pretend-we-can-feel sex partners. (i realize that physiology and emotions can't actually be disentangled like that but like, it's fantasy.) Axel, you can argue, latched onto Roxas in what can be (and often is) read in a romantic way, also arguably sheerly on the merit of the fact that Roxas makes him feel anything at all.
Shockwave in IDW I've also used to played around with this idea, although I haven't published the main work I've done that with. Yet.
And from what I’ve seen, it looks like the main character in Yandere Simulator is gonna have a backstory kind of like that? I’m looking forward to that game, haven’t played any of the demo versions yet but what I’ve seen from the dev’s videos looks fun.
Also: very frequently, unrequited love. Especially secret unrequited love. "Unrequited-to-requited love" doesn't fit the bill at all. It's gotta be perpetual pining. There's NO satisfaction. The longing just builds and builds eternally, until the internal pressure causes something to shatter. I can think of ships I like to imagine this way (Drift w/ any of his mentors, Starscream/Wheeljack, Hashirama/Madara, Ψiioniic/Sufferer), but off the top of my head no canon ones that reach those dizzying heights of eternally unfulfilled yearning. Sure, plenty of stories have unrequited love—but rarely the all-consumingly obsessive kind, and even more rarely is that portrayed as—oh! I got a couple canon ones, albeit more villainous/predatory ones: the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera and that dude with his mouth stitched shut in the Abarat books, I haven't read those in years. And some spins of Dracula and Mina, although it's no fun if she loves him back. You can also do this with Hades and Persephone, although for this to work it's imperative that Hades still feel like he doesn't actually "have" Persephone even if she's contractually obligated to live with him so long as she doesn't love him, and just sort of wistfully watches her from afar whenever she's in the underworld. (But to be honest I generally prefer "Persephone and Hades: Hypercompetent Goth Power Couple" to spins that lean on Persephone being an unwilling unhappy victim.)
The further I go down this list the more obscure and/or headcanony these examples are gonna get, so I think I'm gonna stop here. But feel free to send any follow-up questions if u wanna hear me ramble more about my extremely specific tastes in romance.
Shoutout to "The Maiden and the Minstrel Knight" by Blind Guardian for being a song that captures peak romanticized out-of-control love.

What do you consider well-written Spider-Man? Your view seems to clash a lot with how he is actually written, the unique writing styles of the comics you mock, and the themes a lot of his stories explore in regards to power and responsibility. Do you just not enjoy the more sci-fi stories of Spider-Man despite his Silver Age origin and aesthetic or do you want things to be more surface-level violent?
Hey, anon, I’m getting the distinct impression you don’t like my opinions, which is fine – I haven’t called myself Train “unpopular Spider-Man opinions” Cat in the past for nothing. But you’re making me out like I’m all over the board, flinging mockery at random comics for some mysterious anti-Spider-Man agenda of my own making, and I don’t appreciate that. Furthermore, how you’ve phrased this question is confusing. If anything, I’ve never shown anything but appreciation and affection for his Silver Age stories and for the message presented within his origin, and one of the things I’ve routinely pointed out is that, when you closely examine the comics, Spider-Man is a violent character, and that’s not a bad thing. The superhero genre is built on vigilante justice and it’s built on vigilante justice because if we could trust the systems we have in place, we wouldn’t need a superhero genre. We as an audience want to see bad people get punched and punished, because far too often in real life they’re not. It’s a very specific kind of fantasy: the masked protector, watching out for you on your walk home in the dark. No, Spider-Man’s not the Punisher in terms of violence, but he represents a very independent, very New York, and yes for me most importantly a very Jewish attitude towards violence, and it’s one that I personally recognize in comics both going as far back as the 60s and as recent as a few years ago and it’s one that I do have objections about when I see it erased. In essence, I think Spider-Man comics walk an interesting line: You have a character who is highly Jewish coded, created by a Jewish man, planted in his youth in a famously Jewish neighborhood, who uses Yiddish vocabulary, who experiences some of the clearest cases of Jewish guilt I’ve ever seen, who is recognized by Jewish fans and creators around the world – but who isn’t “canonically” Jewish in comics, technically. It’s on the page, but it isn’t. (It is on the screen now! Thank you, Into the Spider-Verse!) So there’s kind of a twist I see currently: Spider-Man is currently playing into the stereotype of the Jewish man in media without them actually identifying him as Jewish. He can lift a truck, but he’s nonthreatening. He doesn’t engage in violence. You’d never cross the street to avoid him. He’s being written currently as, essentially, toothless. His sharp humor’s been replaced by rambling and Star Wars references. He apologizes to muggers for hurting them now. We have a very real problem with consequence currently in Spider-Man media, and consequence is what Spider-Man is built on. Sometimes, consequence means that if you violently snatch an old lady’s purse, a guy in a mask is going to punch you and leave you dangling upside down for the cops. And we’re not seeing that currently, and it’s an interesting question: can you write a character as an offensive Jewish stereotype if he isn’t actually canonically and only subtextually Jewish? Which is, yeah, of course, because that’s been part of the Jewish coding in our media for decades. We identify Jewish men by the trope of being toothless, and we’re rendering Spider-Man toothless. “He’s such a good boy, he’d never hurt anyone.” If I have a problem with what I view as a quietly offensive, currently pervasive, and – in my opinion – all around poor take on a sheer characterization level of a character who has existed for decades, and if I express that on my blog, that’s my prerogative, but I think it’s hard if you actually bother to look at my takes to pretend they’re not consistent. You’re throwing out “Silver Age” and “do you want him to be more violent on a surface level” to discredit me, but you’re not actually providing examples of what you disagree with. So let me break it down a little more, in case the message got lost.
I obviously don’t take umbrage with scifi in Spider-Man, because that would be ridiculous. This is a story about a guy who got bit by an irradiated spider, was granted ridiculous superpowers, and invented a personal transportation system based around what is essentially super specialized glue. One time he grew four extra arms and also his college professor cloned him in the school basement. If I objected to scifi in Spider-Man, I wouldn’t be reading Spider-Man, because it’s kind of hard to avoid. What I object to is the fact that Spider-Man is traditionally a street level hero whose story deals heavily with his interpersonal relationships and how those are complicated by his responsibility to his community as a hero and to the ordinary citizens – ordinary like his uncle – who he has decided it is his duty to protect. We have so many different superhero franchises because they cover different things: the Fantastic Four are explorers. They routinely deal with things like alternative universes, time travel, and cosmic threats. Spider-Man is a street level vigilante who is sanctioned, ultimately, only by himself. He has a rogues gallery that is defined by men who have, by similar accidents to the one that granted him his power, been transformed by science, but who wield the power of those transformations irresponsibly, but beyond that, his sworn duty is to protect the ordinary people of New York from threats, and not just superpowered threats.
Tumblr media
(Spectacular Spider-Man #115)
Tumblr media
(Spider-Man: Peter Parker #28)
Tumblr media
(ASM #801 – and yeah I’m throwing this in so I can’t be accused of thinking every current Spider-Man comic is bad. The A story of #801 got it perfectly – Spider-Man doesn’t have to save the world in every series he’s in – he has to save a world, no matter how small or personal that world is.)
Spider-Man is New York’s superhero, above any other. Spider-Verse nailed it when they ran the headline proclaiming RIPeter as “New York’s superhero.” Spider-Man’s not global, and he’s not cosmic, and by making him that you lose sight of what makes Spider-Man special. He’s a New Yorker, and he’s immersed in the spirit of New York (one could say he is New York), and separating him from that even through the little things – putting ketchup on a hot dog, or writers who don’t know that Peter Parker definitely doesn’t live in a building that has individual washing machines and dryers within the apartment unit – does lessen him, even if individual readers lack the tools to recognize that. And just like if there was a Fantastic Four series that advertised cosmic level threats but really just had the Fantastic Four going around stopping muggings and investigating local scientists turned into giant lizards, it’s in my personal opinion not great storytelling there are Spider-Man series coming out (Spectacular, Friendly Neighborhood) that advertise a return to classic Spider-Man storytelling – and then they turn around and make him The Only One who can stop an alien invasion featuring, yes, time travel! Alternate universes! How quintessentially Spider-Man – not. Or how the new Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man promised to be the most “neighborhood” Spider-Man ever – which just apparently meant his neighbor has access to a magic elevator that transports people to a duplicate copy of New York that lies underneath it. So yes, I do find these kinds of stories deeply unsatisfying when they’re in Spider-Man comics, because they’re not what I want to be reading Spider-Man for. Scifi in and of itself has nothing to do with it, because obviously Spider-Man is a scifi story. Scale, focus, and the fact that Spider-Man is traditionally a love letter to New York, on the other hand, has everything to do with it.

M/M and M/F!
Hey! It’s Viv here. Late twenties, female rper and hoarder of books. It’s been quite a while since my last post but the writing bug has bitten me last autumn and after quite some solo-writing practice the last few months I would absolutely love a roleplaying buddy (or two) to be my partner in crime. Please be 21+ when you contact me and let me know what you’re interested in! I’m super excited to get back into roleplaying and love to know what gets others excited/ inspired. The easiest way to contact me is through Discord:hungryfangs#9072 (Feel free to add me, I’ll assume you’re a fellow rper :) ) or email:[email protected] (You can also @ at me on hangouts) With that being said my main squeeze is MxM but I’d absolutely be up for MxF as well. My main muses tend to be male but I’m open to write any gender. Especially when we work with doubling/secondary pairings/ background characters ect. My posts vary but 2- 7 lengthy paragraphs tend to be my norm and I strongly favour 3rd person past tense. (Feel free to ask for a sample) I’m aware I have a great deal of original genres/themes that get me excited. We can always mix (some of) them together and create something amazing. I also have some fandoms (not all are taggable) I hope some might be interested in. Settings/themes/ideas/ect. Secret societies | Fantasy (modern/historical/any) | Morally grey characters | Shapeshifters | sci-fi | cold appearances, hiding soft hearts | pirates and space pirates | Dystopian | Clashing personalities | Neo-noir | Vampires | Dragons and dragon riding society | Age gaps where everyone is an adult | slow-burn | Mutual Pining | Arranged marriages and relationships | Different cultures | rivalries | Fangs | The enemies to lovers trope | Historical fiction | Royalty | old money vs newly found wealth | made-up societies | Soldiers | Fae courts | Steampunk | Monsters | ABO dynamics | Soulmates | Starcrossed lovers | Affairs | Mutual banter | Superpowers | Magic and magic users/wielders | Vikings | Mechanically enhanced humans | Rebellions | Curses | werewolves | Big cities | old flames | Gladiators | Made up fantasy and scifi races | secret lovers | Clashing egos | losing it all and having to rebuild | Wild west | Hidden worlds | If any of these and of course my ad speak to you feel free to contact me and we’ll pick it up from there! - I’m also always on the hunt to play with made-up fantasy races, their societies and to play around with that. I have some loose ideas for a dragon shapeshifting and shapeshifting races in general but open to anything! I get super giddy just playing around with concepts and getting to play/write with them. If that’s something you’re interested in defiantly contact me! - What I love about roleplaying is the plotting and getting excited together. Give me your ideas and let me share mine! I love hearing people’’s input and in the end writing on plots we both love. - I love slowburn but I also love lust-filled relationships that slowly grow into something romantic and anything in between. - I’m not too strict on bedroom positions. If you want to write a more submissive character feel free! As long as their preference does not define their personality I don’t mind at all. I do love myself some surprising dynamics with powerbottoms, gentle tops and always up for power struggles! Fandoms: For all fandoms I’m open to playing around in canon or having fun with an AU granted we’re not going for a coffee shop or College AU. I’m bitter like unflavoured coffee about those ;) Bold means I have a preference for that muse but nothing is set in stone and you can ask me to write the other. Attack on titan: Erwin/Levi, Reiner/ Bertolt, Reiner/ Porko A court of thorns and roses: rhysand/ Feyre, Lucian/ Elaine, Azriel/ Elaine or Oc Transformers: I seriously just miss writing in this fandom! I’m most fammiliar with the resently ended IDW comics, prime and Animated.Open to pretty much any pairing. My main muses are: everyone. Also, write Oc’s with me in this fandom and I’ll love you forever! (Not looking for human x mech romances though. sorry :c) OverWatch: Hanzo/ Jesse, Jesse/Genji, Gabriel/Jack Smut: Yes! just yes. In all seriousness, I like smut in my plots. Kinda like the topping of something that is already amazing (like a slice of cheesecake) but I’m totally okay with us fading to black is that’s more comfortable for you Limits and deal breakers: Everyone has things they rather not write and I’m no different. First, and I might sound pretty bitter here. I’m not looking for male writing partners right now. Especially not in M/F plots. Sorry dudes :c I just had one too many bad experiences. Second, I’m not looking to write smut with underage characters. Actually, I’d prefer if every character in any smut scene is 20+ or an equivalent of that if we’re speaking of fantasy races that might age differently. Other than that my limits are very basic: kinks like vore, necrophilia ect aren’t my cup of tea. Okay, I’ll stop here and hope I caught the attention of some of you! Have a lovely day either way and I hope to get some exciting plots going :)

Eliza and Bob have hyped up the finale to say it's going to be super emotional and heartbreaking, but if you could write it in your own ideas what would you have the episode look like? Not just in bellarke terms but in general?
It’s hard, because my style of writing is just not that heartbreaking. I WILL kill off characters because the story demands it, even if I love them and don’t want them to go. The novel I wrote before watching The 100 has at least two major deaths of important characters who I loved. And multiple deaths of more minor characters. And it also has transformations to the dark, and explorations of our own darker natures and flaws, and tragedy and trauma. But maybe because I write scifi and fantasy novels instead of episodic tv, I don’t feel the need to “top myself” in the trauma. And since watching The 100, and dealing with this new garbage fire of a world which has proven that all my fanciful paranoid conspiracy theories are not actually paranoid, but ACTUAL REAL CONSPIRACIES PERPETRATED BY ACTUAL REAL VILLAINS IN ACTUAL REAL LIFE, I’ve felt the need to pull back from the dark and morally gray, constant suffering fictional worldview and HAVE SOME FREAKING HAPPY ENDINGS AND VICTORIES. Unqualified.
Okay. That said. I’m not predicting what I think will happen, but I am imagining what I would do, given what I’ve seen so far. I will probably skip the story lines that do not resonate with me, and also maybe some that I don’t understand where they’re going yet (like Abby, I’m just not sure because I think it’s been building. maybe after tonight it will make more sense.) I’m also not going to talk about what the episode will look like, because I am not sure what the action will be that takes us to the wrap up of the themes and storylines I see.
A storyline I do NOT see wrapping up is finding peace. I don’t think they’ll get it. I don’t think they’ll get the chance to start living, yet. To build a new society outside of war. Not yet. I think that is a season 6 or 7 storyline. Or longer. That might be the new main conflict. No longer war, or survival, but LIVING. It’s been important from the beginning, but more as a long term goal, not one they could actually work towards. Kane tried, but because of the multiple wars, all his efforts were dismantled. Without peace, there could be no building. So we see them trying now, with Kane and Monty and Eden itself…. but no. Everyone is sick, not just Eligius with their lung ailment. Wonkru is too, with their trauma. Both of them can’t stop fighting, can’t stop wanting to own everything they see. Even when they want to.
Okay. So.
Eden: I don’t know how it’s going to work out, but I don’t think Eden will be an option anymore for our heroes by the end of the season. Either it will be destroyed, or it will become a warzone. The worms are still out there, as is the weapon of mass destruction Eliglius brought back from space.
Survival: In order to survive, our heroes will have to turn their back on the war, and also on trying to save Eden. It’s been stated as the ONLY living spot on earth, and since Eligius spent time in orbit LOOKING for living earth, I think that might be true. BUT while everyone is thinking THEY have to be in control of the only living valley, Monty has been like, hey, yo, we don’t need a valley. I kept everyone alive in a tin can in the airless void of space with squicky algae, and you managed with this hydro garden. I can fix the garden. I can make the land fertile again. We can live here. It ISN’T our only option. There’s ALSO the easter egg of Eligius 3, and the planet with 2 suns which is why they needed the nighblood in the first place.  And there’s Shannon Kook, coming during the finale, who I believe will offer our heroes an option out of the valley. Space? Another community of survivors on earth? IDK. haven’t seen any easter eggs about another community, so space looks more likely.
Our heroes will lose the war for Eden and lose Eden, but find the new option behind door number three.
Wonkru: They’re going to break. No longer wonkru, because they are no longer locked in a bunker. If they don’t want to follow Octavia, they don’t have to. Some were already trying to break free, and then she took away their options by burning the garden. Not cool octavia, not cool. Her people are not happy with her. And there’s a real Heda out there. They DO have options. And it’s NOT to follow her. This is going to cause more problems. More war. More death.
Octavia/Blodreina: Okay. I think this is the main emotional story. Like what Bellarke would sacrifice in order to save their people in seasons past?  I still think she’s getting a redemption. That does NOT mean that whatever she did will be okay now. It was WRONG. And she is responsible for the monster she let out. She has never actually been held responsible for what she has done wrong. I believe this is part of her storyline and character arc. Bellamy always let her win. When a person never understands what it means to lose, they develop a sense of entitlement. Even though she was the girl under the floor, Bellamy gave her that sense of entitlement that made the world black and white. The Ark was evil. She was good. Jaha was wrong. She was right. Grounders were good. Skypeople were bad. When she switched over to Jaha’s reasoning and type of leadership, she accepted that she would be going to the dark side, I think. But she was also still stuck with the Good/Evil thinking. And now, with all her power, she maintained her righteous sense of entitlement. Only choice, right? Therefore righteous. She did it for her people, therefore she was good. Bellamy and Clarke made these choices, but they also recognized that it was not righteous, even when they did it for their people. But then, both of them have much more nuanced understanding of the world.
Okay, so because of this, I do see her redemption, as when we have a reunion of not just Bellarke, but Clarke, Bellamy AND Octavia, we’ll have, for the first time, the active Heart, Head, AND the Soul. And part of the sacrifice this time, is not just going to be about what needs to be sacrificed to save their SOULS….
Wait. Wait.
Season 3. Clarke and Bellamy had to save everyone from where their MINDS were trapped in the COL. The head.
Season 4. Clarke and Bellamy (and Octavia)  had to save everyone from their BODIES (where their hearts are, and specifically heart because they separated all the families. We SAW them sacrificing parents for children, Clarke and Abby, Bellamy and Octavia. And they went to save their FRIEND Raven, and the romantic promise of Bellarke, AND recovering, we saw Clarke with her new family/heart, Madi.) The Heart.
Season 5. Clarke and Bellamy (and Octavia?) will save everyone from the damage to their SOULS. Clarke and Bellamy got to recover. Octavia just became more damaged and so did Abby, and the addiction story might be more about her damaged soul that a physical thing. She did reject Kane’s offers to help her through withdrawal.
So. 3: victory of the head. 4: victory of the heart. 5: victory of the soul.
I do not feel that Octavia is likely to make it out alive. They have avoided talking about Lincoln, because I think his death was when she received the damage that broke her. She struggled with that all season 4, and the bunker was when she gave up the fight and just let her soul die in order to keep people alive. BUT I think she’s coming back to Lincoln (that apple blossom parallels the lily he left for her to follow to him,) and I think when we see what happened in the bunker, we’ll get Octavia facing herself, and her heart, and her soul again. We’ve seen her emotions leak out over Bellamy, although she hides it. I think in the end, in order to save her people, Octavia will have to sacrifice herself, and it will be done out of love, it will be done because she recognizes that she let the monster out and what she did is her responsibility to fix. Like Maya, or more importantly, LINCOLN. She has been AGAINST Lincoln’s teachings. And I think when she faces that, she’s going to face her responsibility, like Finn did. I see redemption, sacrifice, and death for Octavia. Could they save her? Yes. If it were a different story and not the 100 and we still didn’t have two major deaths coming. But because it’s this story, I also think we WILL see her redemption, not just death. Because THATS the story. And with the LACK of Lincoln mentions, it’s more likely we’ll see her have a “come to jesus” moment. Like the 2199 days not being mentioned, and the traitor who you love not being mentioned. The more they DON’T bring up Lincoln, the more important it will be.
i think i got sidetracked. What do I have left? Oh. Bellarke.
Bellarke: They will reunite. They will figure out their shit. They will be canon by the end, because every season is ABOUT the head and the heart coming together, and both concepts have been reiterated. They are not gone, they are still in effect. And we’ll have to see a reveal of the 2199 calls that were the cliffhanger of last season, and we’ll have to see that resolved. HOW? I don’t know. Canon, though.
What will the finale be? Bellarke together, perhaps brought together by Octavia’s tragic and heartrending sacrifice, with all those years, a life time really, of pain, and I feel she’s going to be reunited with Lincoln, in death. I HATE that kind of story, but I think JR has said that he loves the tragic Romeo and Juliet story and Linctavia IS the tragic Romeo and Juliet story. It just is. And their story ended with both of them dead. But Octavia had to carry on. SO, heartwarming in that they are together, tragic in that their lives have ended. ALSO, according to Romeo and Juliet, their deaths forged a new peace between the Capulets and Montagues, so if we see that parallel, then whoever is left of wonkru, eligius and our heroes, will get to forge a new life. The war over Eden is almost irrelevant at this point. It will be exciting and someone else besides Octavia will die. yikes. We also have Shannon Kook to show up, so let’s expect the unexpected. I expect he comes from space to offer them a new world, and a new way out. Perhaps his people need resources and that’s why he came back to earth from the planet with 2 suns, and there ARE no resources on Earth… but we have Monty and his magic algae. And so they leave the war for Eden behind and head off into the wastes of space to find a new home, a new hope, where they can finally start LIVING instead of just surviving.
That means, Octavia’s story, romantic tragedy, Eden, war tragedy. Bellarke together like Penelope and Odysseus, finally, so a “comedy.” The Dante’s Inferno cycle ended. Breaking the cycle of violence and abuse.
I didn’t mean to do this. I went off for far too long. I don’t have specifics, just looking at a few themes i’ve noticed. Few details.

I was thinking and reflecting how dumb am I because of how many WIPs/ideas I have for Written Things. Besides the books being written in my mother language (pt br), I was sucked into the Interactive Fiction universe in the last... Five years I think. As expected my brain went nuts with possibilities and I was like "oooh this idea works well with this medium" and as of now I have 11 ideas/wips for IFs that By God I hope to be able to share with all of you one day (14 if I take into consideration that one of them will be a series of 4) (all will be written primarily in en)
Miss America: more in the lines of otome, you control the urban legend Miss America, known to seduce and kill men, running from her country of origin to Brazil from an unknown person that apparently has been chasing her. Very comedy horror and comedy gore at some points, I would say, besides the kinda dark and manipulative romance . Please don't judge, I had the idea years ago when I went into my creepypasta phase (not at all abandoned, I must say). It was supposed to be Visual Novel at first, but uh I don't have enough patience for the sprite side of drawing and coding, so it will only be written as an IF in Twine 🤡(working on this one)
Broken Pieces: Started on CS, even posted first chapter on the forum years ago. Being ported to Twine at a slow pace because the code 🤡. Scifi cyberpunk-y space opera with romance, this thing will be so huge, the story spanning four years and with so many possible endings that I'm asking myself what was I thinking 🤡 (also working on this one)
I-We: Same universe of Broken Pieces, you play as someone that is part of a hivemind species and that has to deal with some things consequences of BP. Not a direct sequel, you will control a different MC and with a different cast of characters in general.
Mission Control (provisory name): Still same universe of Broken Pieces, deals with some consequences from I-We and BP, not a direct sequel still and different characters. Leans more into spacehorror than just SciFi.
Child From Kansas: ... I won't tell details because there is a lot being planned and that depends on some other things I'm writing but it is scifi space opera oldwest-y kinda, definitely in the far future of the universe of BP
UpDown of Glass: High fantasy universe with some mystery and action and angsty. You play as an orphan that is sent to be trained into an order of monster hunters that accidentally gets turned into a werewolf during training phase. Also, the transformation is permanent and there is no way of turning back into a human... As far as everybody knows.
GodHunter series: Inside, Downside, Upside, Outside (I may have mixed up Downside and Upside). It is a mostly superhero-supervillain story, that happens in a high-fantasy world with strong divine forces at play, gods talking with people daily kind of thing. Superheros and villains as presented, with powers non-dependent from magic and divine energy, are actually a very recent development. You play as a superhero incriminated as a supervillain during their journey to both discover how it was done and to reach vengeance.
Echo: more romance focused, urban fantasy and supernatural, soulmate-y things but not exactly in a romantic way???? Hard to explain when there is still so much to plan and it depends a lot on how I'll be able to finish writing some other things.
De-Evolution: 200 years after a zombie apocalypse, focusing on how communities tried to rebuild and adapted. Happens in Brazil. You play as someone that was part of a maintenance team sent to make sure a nearby communication tower would remain in good condition; the team was attacked during the return trip by zombies... Way more organized than they ever saw. The story just evolves and gets more strange after this. (Resisting the temptation to start working more on this one 🤡)
Walking On My Grave: high fantasy world full of mysteries. You play as either a Necromancer or an Undead from the independent city of Bravo; you and another (if you play Undead, a Necromancer, and so on) are sent by the governing powers to consult with the famous Blood Prophets on the other side of the continent when problems beyond their knowledge and capabilities starts to make their Undead forces go mad and to destroy their technologies. (Working on this one the more, very hyped to be able to reach a point were I can share with you. Between getting the hang of twine and planning the major points of the story and having to fight the goblins in my mind wanting to write other things, the writing has been slow but I hope to share the first chapter soon)
Not even a provisory name yet 🤡: literally my most recent idea, same universe of Walking On My Grave, in another independent city. This one basically is the only place able to grow a certain fruit with strong healing properties that can be turned into, basically, health potions. The place is at the brink of civil war 🤡. You play as a bodyguard for a foreigner Mage contracted by the monarchy to try and improve the refining process of the fruit. This Mage is actually your Mother, reference in the Known-World in anything magic-machine, and you are Tired of Always Traveling (this one may seen to have A Lot, but actually has Very Little. I kid you not when I say I dreamed with the monarchy reunions and prison visits that gave me the general plot and three ROs 🤡)
All of this is being made/will be made in Twine. All of these happens in universes were I already have written/will write other things, mainly in ptbr for now, just so I won't go too much crazy trying to keep everything in their own boxrs. I'm trying to plan and write everything in a way that can be enjoyed in an independent way from anything else. 🙃 Will I be successful? Heck if I know, I have very few things finished in this life 😅😅😅
Also all of the scifi ones have/will have aliens and androids as ROs. Most will have non-human ROs in general 🙃
(Tumblr tags crazy, or is it my phone???? I fought to write some and then I let a crazy one as an example, I was trying to write "so many wips" ????? Anyway let's pray and try to write at least some and start sharing with all of you.)

Don’t Hug Me I’m Confused
Disclaimer: The following post contains some personal critique of certain fandom patterns and habits that I personally find strange, don’t relate to, or don’t enjoy. However, this post really isn’t that deep in those areas, and so while I’m not talking about kink at all, just kind of consider this a sort of KINKTOMATO disclaimer. What you enjoy and how you enjoy it is not my business, and your art and cosplays are things that a) seem to be of high quality and b) I could not actually accomplish so kudos to you for doing it even if it’s not my thing in its expression. You do you, and I’ll do me, and I’m not trying to hurt anyone’s feelings. This is just a personal blog post / semi-review that I’m tagging in case anyone else who has watched dhmis wants to read it. This post may likely come across as pretty “anti-shipping,” but rest assured that I probably ship some weird stuff in other fandoms so I’m not judging you, or whatever.
Nursing a headache better and responding to a text, I was reminded of the existence of a weird web series on YouTube that, apparently, was released over the course of several years. The first installment of Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared was shown to me by a former friend sometime after its release many years ago now. Naturally, I was pretty unsettled by it at the time in a sort of nervous-laughter, later-haunted-nightmares sort of way. However, at the time and with its sole initial video being around, the way I processed the video and its purpose was quite different from the way I process it now. I had seen that there were a couple more videos over the years, but I had never actually managed to watch the little series to its sixth installment because at some point I got disturbed ever time and quit. However, in a state of resolve and slightly greater desensitization, I finally finished it up. And I’m strangely satisfied and intrigued, particularly after watching a couple of commentary videos about it.
Rather than rehashing someone else’s explanation, I’ll simply refer to The Film Theorists two videos on the subject. I think that this YouTube channel sometimes gets a lot of raised eyebrows and bad press for reaching really hard to get shock-value, click-bait-y ~dark theories~ out of benign or extremely popular media. I haven’t really consumed their other material, so I can’t speak to that, but I can say that the two videos on DHMIS are not reaching for even more darkness and edge. Rather, they seem to be well-researched, well-reasoned explanations for what is otherwise a strangely difficult work of art to process. I say “work of art” not terribly lightly nor terribly dogmatically because I really don’t know what else to make of something that intrigues, bothers, pleases, disturbs, and fascinates me that is intended to communicate something even if that something is the particular sense of unease I am describing.
As is my custom when I don’t really know what to do with feelings about a particular work of fiction, I opened a tab to AO3 to see if fanfiction exists for that “fandom” to see if a quantifiable fandom is actually there. To my surprise, DHMIS actually had over 100 fics. So, I scrolled through the first couple of pages to see what they tended to be about or whatever. I had no particular craving or desire to read fic about this at the moment; I just wanted to know what the environment was like. And what I found was really, really deeply not what I expected.
A major part of the fandom seems to be something called “p/adlock” shipping which I’m censoring so that I’m not picking on someone’s OTP. Again, disclaimer, not judging, simply commenting. It seems to be shipping the Sketch Pad from the first installment with the Clock from the second. I really don’t know where people came up with this or why it seems to be so passionate, but I am not here to judge. It just seems like it is strangely misaimed and sort of misses the central themes of whatever the hell is going on in DHMIS. Even if I’m not sure what is going on, I’m pretty sure that it is not a romantic love story, subtextually or otherwise. Of course, there’s shipping in everything. Before you get mad at me, let me also say that it reminds me of another fandom I’m involved in in which I am one of the weird maybe-missing-the-point shippers, so I’ll get back to that.
Perhaps one of the reasons that this is such an interesting experience for me is that I feel like I’m experiencing my discovery of this fandom much the way those who discover the Portal fandom and poke around not knowing what to expect must do. I came looking for commentary or elaboration on the universe that seems to have been established in these little shorts. Instead, I find shipping that I cannot really find the thread for at all. Now, of course, I would argue that I do find subtext and reasoning and so on in Portal fandom and “chelley” (Chell/Wheatley) shipping. I also find reasons to believe that Wheatley being in a humanoid or android form makes sense in some cases. I don’t see why there are humanoid forms of already anthropomorphic set pieces and characters in DHMIS. See the above videos for a theory I’ve pretty much bought into, I think, that these characters represent props or animations or such anyway while only Red Guy, Yellow Guy, and Duck are real characters/people/performers. (I realize they have names, maybe.)
Anyway, digressing a bit from the strange experience of seeing how a subset of fandom that is really transforming the original work (again - kudos even if not my thing, I think) being the majority when you don’t really get it from the other side of it, I also want to comment on how worth-it I found finally finishing DHMIS. It went from what felt like a strange, occasionally darkly humorous, occasionally dark-dark-dark exercise in internet meme-y nihilism to something that became so much more. Initially, watching the first couple of episodes, it felt like something that existed that sort of titillate and affirm that particular vein of teenage, edgy, oppositional defiance-y, XD-random, I wear black as it is the color of my soul, I have fantasy colored hair despite it not being goth because I like color secretly and because it bothers some conservative people, I’m angry at societal structures that have failed me and am determined to throw all the babies out with all the bathwater because I’m so angry frustration. Now, I still relate to a handful of those things. If my life allowed for it I would be a pink-hair-but-wearing-all-black kind of person some of the time. However, I find that the depth of that particular soft-laughter rage that comes with being a teenager with the experiences to develop it sort of off-putting as someone who has both been-there and has become a teacher in my adult life. I see myself in it, but I also see things that I hate both on their own merits and that I hate in the form of hating it for a person who has to go through it or go through the steps to have gotten there. In the end, though, I found that DHMIS was less late night Cartoon Network programming is the pinnacle of artistic expression and more some kind of play on nostalgia, capitalism, anxiety, power structures, creativity and its opponents, institutionalized violence, and even, maybe, the meat-packing and commercial food industries. In a way, watching it all the way through sort of felt like going through a fast-motion montage of going from being a sort of disturbed teenager to being an adult on the other side of it with a whole other set of frustrations and anxieties that can still be found in the same sort of imagery. It felt like growing up in a weird way.
Still in episodes I had seen before, I remarked to mentioned texting friend that Red Guy was my favorite when she indicated that she was watching a bit of it. I wasn’t even sure why, but in particular his reactions to the clock in the second episode really sold me. All of the characters had strange reactions to a lot of things, but his deadpan, monotone confusion, and the way in which he complies to this-might-as-well-happen sorts of circumstances until he cracks in the end and has some kind of epiphany really resonated with me. Then, I realized, it was because he was, in fact, that avatar of the adult in this situation, and that is its own kind of mind-blow because initially one does not really conceive of these characters as anything but ageless muppets. Which is its own layer of unsettling. In any case, I am really impressed with this little series. Whether or not the “film theory” is right, I feel more satisfied in the end. However, I would really recommend those videos because it totally flipped my perspective on the ending of DHMIS from “there’s no hope and not escape from this hell” or, possibly, “you might escape hell but you’re dooming someone else to replace you,” to something entirely and much more hopeful bout the drudgery of a creatively inclined adult trying to slog through the obstacles and soul-drains that our present societal pressures place on us. I really hope I figure it out in the end like Red Guy.
One final, mostly off-topic note: upon a glance, I think that maybe that film theories youtube channel is, perhaps, more genuine in its efforts to dissect internet memes than in the clickbait it produces for blockbuster movies. But then again, in a a world dictated by ad revenue, whatcha gonna do?
Given that our focuses on what we like about the series seem to be wildly different, I doubt that I’ll be hard-joining the DHMIS fandom for the most part. I enjoyed some of the content in the tag, and if you’re reading from outside it, you might check it out.
If you like or hard-relate to Red Guy and enjoy scifi (Doctor Who, The Expanse), other web series (Carmilla), or other common fandom stuff (superhero shows, DC/Marvel, select anime), you might consider messaging or following me. I’d love to talk about Red Guy with someone who kinda gets it, but again I’m not really interested in shipping in this fandom.
If you read this far, thanks and have a lovely day!

10 Questions Tag :)
I was tagged by the lovely @doctor-q, thanks hon! <3
1: What’s your preferred written genre?  Probably fantasy?  I really enjoy the process of world-building, and since I grew up reading mostly fantasy it’s all the genre that I’m most familiar with.  But considering the WIPs I’ve had over the years (1 adventure, 1 scifi, 2 contemporary thrillers, 2 fantasy) the only actual consistency in genre I have is that they all have romantic subplots at some point.  I don’t consider myself a romance writer, but the facts say I’m just in denial 😂
2: What’s your preferred reading genre?  Okay, this one is a definite vote for fantasy.  My parents are both bookworms and, as a general rule, fantasy is their preferred genre too--which explains why I read and reread Tolkien (LotR) and Feist (Riftwar Saga) a lot while growing up.  I love everything about fantasy, there’s nothing that’s off the table.  A lot of old fantasy has escapist elements which appeals to me, but I also love the cultural elements--basing systems off certain cultures or mythologies, or reading about completely new/fictitious cultures.
3: What’s a trope that absolutely speaks to your heart?  Pyrrhic victories!  Not a trope that I consume a lot of, but one I absolutely love creating.  Considering I play a lot with black and gray morality in my writing, it’s unfortunately the case that the costs usually end up being higher than the reward.  I also love character deaths, which contribute to pyrrhic victories too.
4: Is Science Fiction also Fantasy? Discuss.  So, for me, this is like... squares and rectangles.  All SciFi is Fantasy, but not all Fantasy is SciFi.  In my opinion, fantasy really just means “a story set in a fictitious world.  SciFi, no matter how probable it can be at times, is set in a fictitious world.  Even near-future or contemporary SciFi still involves changing an element from reality that makes the setting fictitious.  But not all Fantasy is SciFi, because SciFi to me means “a story set in a fictitious world that focuses on or highlights elements of which science is a core component”.  Sure, all fantasy stories will have scientific components--I’ve yet to find a story that doesn’t play by some rule of physics/chemistry/etc--but most of the time, if you’re reading a fantasy novel about dragons, the novel doesn’t go on about the anatomical structure or biological functions of the dragons, right?  The scientific component is technically there, but completely ignored.  A SciFi story is a fantasy novel that would/does go into those components.  That’s just my two cents idk
5: What’s the synopsis of your WIP? Ahh, I’m just going to include super short mini-synopses of my two big WIPs...
For Alight in Ashes...
In a society constantly uprooted by revolution, humans have been designated as the inferior species and are beset by disease, slavery, and genocidal Hunts.  Cassandra, a petty thief, is determined to prove that humans are capable of fighting back, regardless of the cost.
For Eosophobia...
Rumors of a cure for the engineered supervirus Dawn have begun to circle the forested region of Cascadia, dragging out the remnants of human civilization from hiding–and also their mutated cousins, Biotics.  With competing groups desperate to get their hands on any possible cure the Columbia Gorge transforms into a battleground waiting to explode.
6: If you could speed date any literary character who would it be?  Mara.  Oh my god.  I would marry her.  I haven’t read The Empire Trilogy in years, which is my loss, because it’s fantastic and I have such a crush on the protagonist/MC, Mara.  She’s such a powerful character, and I love how ambitious and resourceful and reckless she is, in a way.
7: If you were a literary character who would you be?  Haha, okay, I’m totally Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy.  Not the “super rich” part, which is unfortunate, but the arrogant, prideful, honest part?  The best-known-for-my-poorly-worded-and-soul-crushing-love-confessions part?  That’s me.
8: What’s a big theme you notice in your writing? Moral subjectivity!  I love bringing it up in my writing and reflecting it in my characters.  I just have fun with making readers root for someone who goes against standard morality--rooting for villains, or dark anti-heroes, etc. It’s my goal to write characters that are so likeable or powerful that my readers will root for them, no matter how the odds look or what actions “need” to be taken.
9: What is a theme you hate seeing in writing?  I hate “love conquers all”, which is somewhat ironic considering I’m a self-described romantic.  But I’m a strong believer that love only works if you’re willing to put in the necessary work that a relationship requires.  I’m tired of love being portrayed as “if it’s meant to be, it will be”.  It’s not inherently a bad theme, but one that’s vastly overused.
10: What was your opinion of your last high school Literature teacher?  I... honestly don’t even remember his name.  He was a nice and reasonable guy as a person, and was pretty laid back for the most part.  But he felt out of touch with his students--I don’t remember ever being invested in his class (to be fair, high school was all easy As for me (that’s not bragging, I went to a really shitty high school where they were just trying to pass as many of us as they could because graduation rates were atrocious. haha and then i dropped out but whatever)).
My Questions for Ya’ll
1. Do you have any writing habits or rituals?
2. If you had to be one of your characters for a day, who would you choose to be?
3. Character death, yay or nay?
4. Which tropes, if you’re aware of any, are in your WIP?
5. Favorite hero from any book/movie/etc.?
6. Favorite villain from any book/movie/etc.?
7. What’s your favorite part of the writing process?
8. If you were locked in a room with your OCs, how would you fare?
9. What scene in your WIP are you most excited about?  Why?
10. If you had to use a different title for your WIP than the one you’re currently using, what would it be?  If it doesn’t have a title, choose an alternative name for your MC.
Tagging (feel free to ignore): @oheoo @madmooninc @ashtrieswriting @toboldlywrite @relevy @theguildedtypewriter @dragonscanbeplantstoo and of course, anyone else who would to join in!

I cosplay cus it's fun. I cosplay cus everyday can be Halloween. I cosplay Cus I love to build and make things. I cosplay cus I'm a big kid who loves playing dress up with friends and run around the convention floors! Cosplaying with my HP sisters has always been a delight! @castlecorsetry created those costumes as many of my corsets and body suits. Underneath it all I'm just a makeup artist wig and hair stylist who fabricates costumes myself and loves transforming my friends into their favorite characters. I don't take myself too seriously when I dress up as my heroes. It's all fantasy and I love to play! JQM LITERARY SPOTLIGHT PRESENTS Aggressive Behavior (Freelance Familiars 4) by Daniel Potter
FIRST, LET’S GET TO KNOW YOU A BIT. TELL US SOMETHING UNIQUE ABOUT YOURSELF:
I am washed out mad scientist. Sadly I was far too deep in before I realized the funding situation for mutant animals was too dire to build a career. I had to tunnel out of academia with nothing but a bic pen.
WHAT IS THE GENRE AND AUDIENCE FOR THIS BOOK:
Urban fantasy with a good splashing of humor.
WHAT WAS THE INSPIRED YOU TO WRITE THIS BOOK:
The Freelance Familiars series as a whole came about as a total lark. I had gotten myself stuck on the rock goddess scifi I had been working on and nanowrimo was coming up. I tell myself lets try something completely self indulgent. We’ll start with the urban fantasy awakening to the magical world trope but everything is awful. We’ll have our hero not get magical powers of his own but instead be a familiar. Didn’t want to go with a standard black cat so I picked my fav larger kitty, the mountain lion. I started writing, had a ton of fun ruining Thomas’s day and won nanowrimo for the first time. Aggressive Behavior was a reintroduction to the series for me. I had spent a few years working on other projects. It was great to find that all these characters are still a ton of fun to write and puzzle out what makes them tick. Its not what inspired me to write the book but how these characters inspire me to explore them and their world further.
      TELL US ABOUT YOUR BOOK:
Freelance Familiars follow one Thomas Khatt after he’s been transformed into a mountain lion and awakened to the hidden magical world. Sure if he were bonded to a witch or wizard he’s a powerful weapon but their employment terms are life long and the pay is literally kibble. Instead with a combination of wit, stubborness and the occasional fang, Thomas rips open a place for himself in this crazy world. He’s aided in his quest for independence by Rudy, a pyromanical squirrel and O’Meara, a nuclear powered fire magus. Together they’re facing down an entire magical society, witches, wizards, werewolves and most foul, the talking animal union.
WHERE CAN WE PURCHASE YOUR BOOK:
Amazon has the books in ebook, print and audio formats. Series page: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074C682XX?ref_=series_rw_dp_labf

Breast Cancer and Battlestar Galactica
In October of last year, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and rushed into surgery three days later. Thus began a journey that would change my perceptions of what’s important, and the strange realization that life is a fragile miracle not to be taken for granted. It made me more determined to hang on to life, something I saw on a science fiction show called Battlestar Galactica.
President Laura Roslin is a character on the show, who’s steely resolve to deal with a larger catastrophe comes partially from her private battle with breast cancer. When faced with the eventuality of her demise, many things she used to be afraid of seem suddenly trivial. It was what allowed this reserved, 43rd in line for the presidency, schoolteacher to step into the role of President of the Colonies with hardly a shiver after they are attacked by merciless machine creatures and their homeworlds are destroyed.
The story revolves around taking control of your life, on both a personal and larger level and it came along during a period when I felt completely out of control. This science fiction epic has seen me through to the cancer survivor I am today. It’s so very much about taking control, but also taking time for yourself, taking care of yourself and the consequences of ignoring your body and spirit in pursuit of success, money and power. Roslin, prior to be diagnosed, was a workaholic. Her transformation is startling, as is anyone’s who realizes they are mortal and their time on this plain is finite.
How The Idea of Breast Cancer, Science Fiction & Battlestar Galactica combined into a website, writing, blogging and a really fun hobby… Breast cancer and Battlestar Galactica caught me totally off-guard and sealed my allegiance to this complex science fiction television show. The fact that the President of the Colonies had cancer on a SciFi show was an odd combination to propose, but Ron Moore put it out there and thus into our reality. President Laura Roslin is diagnosed early on in the series with the deadly disease, and told that her options are few and her chances slim to none. In the midst of this personal tragedy, she is thrust into an immediate fight for her life and has to assume the mantel of presidency while keeping secret her other silent enemy. Publicly, she works with Commander Adama for the betterment of humanity as they flee Caprica; privately, she battles the betrayal of her body as the cancer spreads. She has to be devastated, but like many of us, she rises to the immediate challenge – getting the remains of civilization to safety – fighting privately with her fears and demons.
Three operations and too many frakkin cancer treatments later, I have emerged a breast cancer survivor and a woman acutely aware of how little time God gives us. The oncologist shook my hand a couple weeks ago, bid me good luck and told me to make an appointment for 30 days out, three months out and so forth. She handed me a prescription for hormonal therapy pills, a number to call if I got upset and a business card if I had any questions. I was burned, in pain, peeling, wearing a wig, and recovering. Life was supposed to continue on as usual, right? I felt like I’d been beat up by a bunch of Cylons. I wasn’t the same person who went to the doctor in October, so that was impossible? I think this is the same with anybody who’s survived a life-threatening illness.
What you do with that change is what makes the difference in your world. Roslin has taken on leading the people to Earth as her personal quest while stealing a few moments of private time and holding the political structure together. We see bits and pieces of that with the President, in between fighting with Adama and fending off Tom Zarek – she reads, practices some form of candle therapy and seeks counsel from a spiritual person. She is also being ravaged by the medications and pain killers; and, we are left to wonder if she’s chosen the right path. She didn’t want to die like her mother; will she die anyway?
As a survivor, it’s a question I ask myself often. I’ve taken all of the advice, made a choice, survived a course of treatment. Was it enough? Will it come back and kill me in six months, a year, two years? Unlike Roslin, I caught mine earlier on. Like Roslin, I have no choice but to live my life to the fullest with whatever time I have left. Thank God, I’m not Roslin, because she has to spend the bulk of her time running from the Cylons. I just need to please my boss for eight hours and drive home. Somehow, amidst all that chaos, she manages to snatch a couple minutes for herself. And, that’s what’ it’s all about. She borrowed one of Cmdr. Adama’s books, so we can presume she spent a bit of time reading it. That’s time for herself, and that’s so extraordinarily important.
Breast Cancer and Science Fiction – Whole Again! If you’ve been where I’ve been, and maybe you’re still there, take heart and take flight. Let them do what they must to save your life, but don’t let them steal your joy. As they work on your body, take your mind to the next level, an alternative universe, a parallel dimension, to a battlestar or starship and beyond. That’s what science fiction and fantasy will do, take a person out of the doldrums and allow them to soar on the wings of imagination.
When things get rough, focus instead on your love of science fiction or whatever is your passion. Like sitting in a hot tub, it will relax you enough so that when your attention returns to the problem, it’s more manageable. While I was sick, it became breast cancer versus science fiction. I have always loved Star Trek: TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager & Enterprise, and I rapidly got hooked on the new SciFi channel offering, Stargate Atlantis, and because they addressed something I was in the midst of fighting – breast cancer – was fascinated by Battlestar Galactica.
I lived for Friday night; they weren’t going to treat me again for two days, and Stargate and Stargate Atlantis were coming on. Then, in January 2005, the much-hyped Battlestar Galactica series joined my mix. What would happen to the President? She was dealing with it and functioning. She was still alive and so was I. When I was too sick to move, I’d watch these shows and remember what I used to adore. – writing fan fiction, reading and watching science fiction and fantasy on television and in the movies and dreaming about distant galaxies. It’s been that way since I was five. And, I realized that I had put that on the “back burner” for years as I worked and lived, that is, until I was invited into hell through cancer.
I pondered what could I do that really meant something to me. There was nothing I could do about what the treatments except think about something else. — something fun, different – something I had a passion for that would replace the misery. Without passion for a subject, any subject, life quickly becomes an endless march towards death. And, I definitely didn’t want that. I had become a work-a-holic. I suspect that Laura Roslin was one as well. I have no idea how that happened, but with that knowledge, I had the power to change it. If you see yourself in this boat, you have the power to get out before it sinks with you in it.
My new philosophy is, “Do what you need to do to sustain your existence, then live to do what you enjoy to live your life.”
Take the clarity I’d gained with breast cancer, combine it with my love of science fiction, and – presto, magic – step into a lifestyle that includes time for oneself, loads of laughter and a boatload of merriment. Unfortunately, our stalwart Battlestar president doesn’t have this luxury. She can only snatch a few minutes here and there, but she does that. If, in the middle of a run for her existence, the President in Galactica can take a few moments for herself, what’s our problem?
Science fiction fans with cancer – take heart!
I know there are many science fiction fans out there who are cancer survivors. They say you are a survivor from the moment of diagnosis. There are 10 million cancer survivors today, so you’re not alone. Even if only one other fan reads this and enjoys my website, blog or piece of fan fiction, I will have accomplished my goal. To make you laugh; make you think; encourage you to do something that’s not about making money and business, something you would work at even if you’re never got paid a cent for doing it, something to take you mind off whatever ails ya!
My passion is science fiction and fantasy and my wish is to share that with others who may be suffering and need a break.
