Ik everyone talks about this in different fonts, but your ask about mike and nancy and how he feels comfortable opening up to will really struck me because wow, broski literally NEVER opens up to his girlfriend. Like we knew this already, but it really does go beyond him not having dramatic heart to hearts with El on top of vans. He really doesn’t talk to El about ANYTHING other than things related to the fight against the UD. And I think that directly connects to him putting her on a pedestal. Beyond his sexuality, beyond the debate of whether he loves will or el, why are my chemical romances completely chill with a bf/gf who don’t open up about anything. That should concern them, but it never does . Like literally, when you contrast with Lumax, who are vulnerable with each other ATT, it’s startling. How do melvin shippers not see that? Because that goes beyond the Byler debate into the core emptiness of their relationship which is a fact.

Yeah, let's talk about Mike and El for a second, because I think there's more to unpack here.

We really see so many empathy misses between the two of them, and I kind of think a lot more of those in later seasons come/start from El shutting down Mike's feelings than the other way around. I mean, Mike sets the precedent here with blaming El a lot in season 1, and we definitely still see his issues with deflection and blame shifting, but we do see Mike TRY to understand what's going on with El, and I'm not so sure we see El doing the same for Mike, though to give El the benefit of the doubt here, I also don't think it's ever been demonstrated to her that she should be making space for Mike in this way.

Let's take a look:

First we have this scene here where Mike is trying to relate to El and show her around. He's excitedly showing off all of his toys to her, and El just really could not be bothered. She gets up to scope out the rest of the room and kind of leaves Mike alone with his toys. Now obviously, this is a small thing, but I think it's an interesting way to set up their dynamic: Mike is trying to be attentive with El and make sure she's experiencing everything (making her breakfast, showing her the Lazy Boy, showing her his toy collection), and El is sort of dismissive with him. Clearly, she's also not been brought up traditionally, so I can give her a pass on these behaviors, but as for establishing a relationship between Mike and El, it's kind of already pointing toward the fact that they're not on the same page and don't really share the same interests.

We see basically the same thing happen here in the s3 opening makeout scene where Mike breaks their kiss to rock out to Never Surrender and El covers Mike's mouth and tells him to stop singing. He says, "What, you don't like it?" And it's played off as this kind of comedic moment, but we get the sense here again that El kind of stifles a bit of Mike's goofiness and playfulness, so much of what makes him him, to just go back to making out. It doesn't read to me here like she's all that interested in spending QUALITY time with Mike, she's moreso interested in engaging in teenage behavior with him, gossiping and making out.

But let's take a step back for a second and look at their initial kiss scene here because I think this also highlights how much they are not on the same page at any point in their relationship. In this first scene we get between them that really establishes them as a romantic relationship, Mike is telling El that she can come live with him and his family, that his parents will be like her parents, and his sister will be like her sister, and El asks if that means that Mike will be like her brother, and he says, No, that's different. Here, Mike is being pushed into creating this romantic bond between he and El because Lucas and Dustin frame his attentiveness to her in this way, and likewise, El is pushed into framing this as a romantic bond and not a familial bond by Mike. While Mike is confusing platonic feelings for romantic feelings, El is confusing familial feelings for romantic feelings.

And we see this displayed so apparently in El's entire arc during season 2. She leaves Hawkins to try to establish for herself what her relation to the world is, and she goes out in search of family, first to her Mom, and then to Kali, her sister. Both her aunt and Kali offer her places to stay and offer her a place in their family, but El returns to Hawkins, and says she's going "Home" because that's where her family is, not just Hopper, but Mike and the rest of the party too. El views these relationships as being like family and like home to her.

And this sets up so well why Mike and El's relationship in season 3 feels so off to the both of them. They believe that their bond has to be romantic because of how much expectation and waiting was built between them, but we again see them not being on the same page.

Now we already talked about the beginning makeout, so I won't go over that again, but I do want to key into a few of the points in their dynamic. While we've talked about how El and Will are constantly confused and interchanged in the story with Mike, Mike and Hopper are consistently also confused and interchanged in the story for El. Mike kind of plays, in a weird way, a 3rd father figure role to El in places.

Now we know that Hopper has always been overprotective of El and has firm rules set in place for her, but we also see this behavior show up with Mike in season 3. He's concerned about having lost El, and he kind of steps in by trying to have control over how she uses her powers. He thinks the others are trying to exploit her, so while his intentions are well-meaning here, El doesn't need this kind of overprotection from Mike because she already has it from Hopper, and her whole arc in season 3 is about her discovering herself outside of being defined by her relationships with others.

So when we get to season 4, and we see that Mike has created more distance in their relationship while El is sort of clinging onto it and fully investing into Mike, I think similarly to how Mike threw himself into El in s3 after being afraid he lost her in s2, El does the same thing with Mike because she thinks she lost Hopper, and so Mike becomes really her main support system. While of course she loves the Byers and Will, Jonathan, and Joyce step in to become family for her, they are not as familiar to her as Mike is, and Mike is the only person besides Hopper who has really been there for El since the beginning. She leans so heavily onto Mike and displaces a lot of her insecurities about losing her powers, losing her home, and losing her Dad into Mike's inability to say "I love you" because what El really wants and needs in season 4 is a sense of stability that she doesn't have.

So when Mike finally tries to address the problem after he finds out El has been lying to him and that she's been being bullied, he's trying to understand why she hasn't been talking to him, and instead of really talking through it, they both put the blame back on each other. El blames Mike for viewing her as a monster and for not saying I love you, and Mike deflects by saying "you know how I feel about you," making the insecurity her problem instead of something that they work through together as a couple. El can't understand why Mike can't tell her he loves her, but Mike also can't understand why El needs so badly to hear it. And so the only reassurances he gives her are about her powers because that's all she's really defined herself by for so long. He views El's hyperindependence and her need to do everything on her own as a strength in her and not as the result of insecurity and instability that it is.

El and Mike care about each other a lot, but they don't relate to one another. They don't understand one another, and they're constantly never on the same page about their relationship or what one needs from the other. That's what makes it so clear that the monologue didn't solve anything. Because neither one of them was actually hearing the other throughout the entirety of their relationship.

My take on Takemichi and Mikey's relationship

+ why I feel like what we've seen from chapter 275 is the perfect ending to their story.

[SPOILER FOR TR 275 LEAKS]

I know that many people have felt distraught/maybe disappointed with the new leaks, but I feel like Takemichi (possibly) dying by Mikey's hands, especially while trying to save him, perfectly summarizes their relationship as a whole: two people that very clearly love and care for one another (whether you view their bond as platonic or romantic it does not matter right now) and that at the same time can't be together because they destroy each other (both metaphorically and literally lol).

Right from the start, Mikey is introduced as some sort of rival for Takemichi, someone who is, at the very least, partially responsible for Hina's death; and although their relationship develops, Toman's 1st gen president still remains an obstacle to Hina's wellbeing and happiness, even if Takemichi has gotten much more hesitant on actually condemning his friend.

Mikey, instead, first approaches our protagonist because of the similarities between him and Shinichiro; then, of course, that develops into actual care for Takemichi, to the point where Manjiro trusts his friend enough to tell him about one of his biggest secrets, the dark impulses.

Throughout the course of the manga, this dynamic becomes more and more complicated: in the past timeline, we see the two teenagers only become closer and closer, and yet every time Takemichi travels to the future, the consequences of Mikey's curse become more and more evident.

What in the past is a simple friendship between two boys, in the future it shifts into a bond that makes both of them act irrationally and that causes pain for everyone involved in it: the main examples are Manila!Mikey, who kills every single one of their friends to gain Takemichi's attention, and the Bonten timeline, a future that the protagonist casts aside with “little” hesitance, despite it being the best outcome yet.

Their feelings for one another become very contradicting.

Takemichi is well aware of the fact that, logically, Mikey is the problem, and yet he cannot bring himself to abandon him, no matter the cost: during the Bonten timeline, he should be happy and satisfied with the outcome, and yet, the fact that Mikey is not able to live a normal life with his friends stops the time-leaper from truly enjoying his “success”.

On the other hand, during that same future Mikey is doing the complete opposite: he goes to great lenghts to isolate himself from the others, deeming himself as almost a burden because of his dark impulses. And yet, it becomes clear that a part of him has never moved on from toman, and from all the people he cares for: he desperately wants to be alongside his friends, his family, and most of all, he wants to be saved from the curse that has been part of him for most of his life.

Mikey and Takemichi’s bond is a constant tug-of-war between selfishness and selflessness.

Takemichi wants to save everyone, but most of all, he wants to save Mikey, which leads to decisions that might be considered selfish; Mikey instead, destroys all of his friendships because he does not want to hurt his loved ones furthermore, and yet he yearns for a savior, a hero.

And Takemichi is able to fulfill the role of the hero: his desire to save Mikey is so deep that it becomes detrimental towards not only those around him, but himself as well, resulting in his (again, possible, but not 100% certain) death.

Takemichi dying by Mikey’s hand is at the same time the best and worst outcome if we take all I’ve talked about into consideration: Mikey is saved from his impulses (which is something they both wanted), but it is at the price of Takemichi’s death.

In my humble opinion, this ending is genuinely the essence of their dynamic as a whole.

this might be too niche but!! Love Is Blind Steddie (+ ronance and platonic stancy) AU where Steve and Nancy meet in the pods. They bond over growing up in small towns, not meeting family expectations and being bisexual, among many other things.

They get engaged, they meet but after that the romantic part of their relationship kind of dims. They still have a great bond and it's sort of confusing for the audience. In the confession rooms they notoriously say the other is their 'best friend' but nothing about being the love of their love so no one really knows what to think.

It all comes to heed when they don't show up for a joined party and it cuts to Steve talking to one of the crew members, some metalhead, by the pool, and then Nancy hugging that one red-head make-up artist in Steve and Nancy's bathroom back at the hotel. It looks like the paradise is over, like they had a fight but the cameras couldn't catch it - this theory is later backed up when they call it quits the next day, no explanation, nothing. It goes viral really quick.

It's no wonder, then, that this situation becomes the talk of the first reunion episode. Nancy and Steve remain pretty vague about it all, though they do sit close and disclose that they are pretty present in each other's life.

"As friends," Nancy insists for what feels like the hundreth time.

In the showrunners' minds the next logical question to ask is whether they are dating someone then. Steve gets a dopey look on his face when he nods. He waves his hand the crew's way.

"Actually," he starts and then there's the metalhead camera operator walking up to the stage, settling in Steve's lap because, you know, the drama. "This is Eddie. He's the love of my life."

Nancy admits to dating Robin, a fellow crew member, but they decide not to make a big reveal out of this because 'they don't live off the drama like those two' - they do flood their respective Instagram pages with cute couple photos in the next few days though.

(realistically i know nancy would never go on a show like this but in this au she made a severa and continous lapse of her judgement shh)

Can you imagine a romantic evening between MC and Jack in the department? Maybe Jack will have a nice meal and the MC will wear a flashy dress to surprise Jack. One night where they both profess love, where they forget the bad and focus on it, maybe, Jack could take advantage and propose marriage to MC?

I must admit that I LOVE Alice (MC) and Jack with all my heart. They are a beautiful couple and they deserve a happy ending ❤️

That’s quite the romantic idea you have there. MC and Jack have a dinner date that leads to him proposing is super sweet. Naturally, this is going to depend on the type of MC, whether they’re interested in marriage, and how their relationship goes, especially after the events of the game.

Naturally, I’ve already got some ideas for how it might go with my MC, Alice. Since you wanted to hear some images, and we could all use some nice fluffy goodness after the past few headcanons, I’m going to just go nuts and have fun with the topic of marriage and proposing with my OTP.

Just as a heads up, these thoughts will get spicy. This is an Adults Only game after all, and Jack is a very needy yandere who wants to fill his sunshine with his love.

The subject of marriage was something that came up while they were still in the friendship stage of their relationship. The first time Alice ever told Jack she wanted to get married eventually was one night when she was tearfully venting to her supernatural friend about her shattered dreams of a future with Ian. She dreamed of her future wedding, of having a big family with her best friend who loved and understood her the most... and he betrayed her.

Jack comforted Alice that night, cuddling her close and reassuring her that she can still have that dream someday, but with someone who truly loves her. She appreciated the reassurance, but didn’t believe it. If the bond she had with Ian was so flimsy, how could anyone truly love her?

It was painful for Jack to hear Alice think that way about herself, to not realize or even be ready to accept just how much he loved her and how much better she deserved. Still, it helped him understand her better too, her dreams for the future that he promised himself to one day give her. She was still hurt by the lies of false love, but eventually he would show her what real love felt like... because even if her love for him was platonic right now, he knew she cared about him.

The next time the subject of marriage comes up between them is a while later, though they’re not in a relationship. Alice is invited to a wedding and asks Jack to be her plus one. Technically her invitation didn’t allow for a plus one, but it’s not like they would see him, right?

Naturally, Jack was elated by the invitation, and he showed up dressed in a very colorful but snappy suit. Come to think of it, it probably would look a lot like the suit he wears in the Aphrodesia crossover.

Minus the bloodstains of course. (And the wise guy dog man underling accessory.)

Alice is used to Jack’s mysterious supernatural changes of clothes by this point, such as his super cozy robe and pajamas. (She has admittedly swiped his robe a couple times for herself despite how big it is on her, since it’s just so comfy.) Even still, the sight of Jack in a suit is striking. She can’t help but think it looks really good on him, and her heartbeat picks up at the sight of him.

Jack, naturally, overhears Alice thinking about how handsome he is, but he still asks her what she thinks, just being a little cheeky about it and wanting to hear her say what she’s thinking out loud. He might give praise easily to his sunshine, but he will soak up every drop of it she’ll give him like a plant dying of thirst.

Flustered at being asked after what she was just thinking (which she shouldn’t be having about her friend), Alice has to take a moment to recover, and she deflects, trying to overcompensate in being friendly with her praise, because she is not going going to make this weird. Jack just rolls with her being gently teasing even as she compliments him, bantering back with her lightly, and the nervousness melts from her quickly so they have a fun exchange.

Jack, naturally, praised Alice for her gorgeous dress. The way it hugged her curves was just... Mmm... It was tempting, to say the least. He had to look away and calm himself down, or she was going to catch just how much he ached to show her just how much he appreciated the view. His words came out soft, sincere, and a little shy, as he worried about coming on too strong. Alice is skittish about romance, and if he approaches her too fast, he might ruin things.

The flattery works very well on Alice, though inwardly she struggles to believe it. When Jack continues to praise her, talking in detail about what works about her outfit and her appearance, she gets so flustered she has to tell him to stop. Her face is cherry red, and her heart is pounding so hard she’s sure he can hear it. It feels way, way too good, and she redirects the conversation towards getting to the wedding on time.

Jack adores her reaction, and he wants to keep making Alice flustered, but he allows her to change the topic. It’s addicting to overwhelm her with praise and making her feel good, but he knows when to stop. Someday she’ll be ready for him to tease and please her as much as he wants. Someday.

The wedding is a beautiful ceremony, and Jack imagines that it’s him and Alice standing there before the officiant, saying such sweet vows of love. He can even imagine some of the things he would say to her. The couple only has eyes for each other, and he can’t help but want that, his gaze constantly straying to his sunshine. To his delight, she sneaks glimpses at him as well, only to look away quickly with pinked cheeks when he catches her looking.

Yet there’s a faint hint of somberness to Alice throughout the wedding, a wistfulness that doesn’t escape Jack’s notice. He waits until she’s away from others during the reception to ask her if she’s doing alright. She says she’s fine, and he gently broaches the subject of how she feels about getting married someday.

Alice is pensive as she swirls the drink in her hand, non-alcoholic despite the open bar. Her thoughts are all over the place, wanting what the married couple have, but thinking that’s something out of her reach now, along with other complicated thoughts about Ian.

After Alice admits she isn’t sure, Jack tells her it’s okay to still want this, to want to get married. His perceptiveness startles her yet again, and he continues before she can linger on it for too long, telling her that just because Ian’s love is fake doesn’t mean that all love is. Someday, she’ll realize there’s someone who truly loves her and will only look at her like the beautiful, irreplaceable treasure that she is, forever.

Alice is blushing all the way to her ears after that and barely manages to thank Jack, overwhelmed. Her heart pounds, and a small part of her can’t help but think that he certainly makes her feel that way... and how it feels almost too good to be around him at times.

Jack is quick to remind Alice that he’ll always be there for her, as long as she wants him to be. Again she can barely do anything more than thank him, but she appreciates him entering her life. She wished for a friend, and he’s everything she could ask for and more.

Soon enough someone comes by asking for her and their conversation comes to an end, much to Jack’s regret. However, before going back, Alice sneaks a squeeze to Jack’s hand, which he tenderly returns.

As Alice returns to the reception, she thinks that maybe Jack is right. Maybe someday she can be as happy as the married couple, only with the right person by her side.

After Alice and Jack get together as a couple, the subject of marriage is brought up again. Though it’s a heart pounding topic for both of them, there is the logistics of it they need to consider. It’s a more serious discussion that hangs heavy over the happy light and fluffy feelings.

A big wedding ceremony isn’t going to happen, sadly. Even a marriage certificate won’t work out, as ghosts(?) aren’t something the law is much concerned about. They could never get married in front of a bunch of friends and family who wish them well on their new life together.

Jack promises that he’ll be with Alice forever as long as she wants him to be, even without a ceremony, softly kissing her lips to emphasize his love. She asks timidly if he really wants forever with her.

“More than anything,” Jack breathes before kissing Alice again, this time more deeply.

The conversation starts to fragment from there. Words of love and promises of forever are exchanged. Jack needs to hear her say that’s what Alice wants too, and oh when his sweet sunshine says the words he longs to hear... he just has to show how much he loves her.

It’s not an outright proposal in so many words, but the sentiment is there, a small thought at the back of both their minds. It’s a promise that sparks desire and the two of them make love several times that night.

Dates between the pair range from innocent outings having fun, like visiting the park, the museum, the movies, etc... to more intimate private dates at home.

Though, admittedly, the “innocent” outings didn’t exactly stay G-rated like they did before they were dating. Jack just can’t help himself, and there’s a thrill to whisk his sunshine off into a secluded area where they’re not supposed to be so that he can show her his love even in a place where they might get caught. Alice is so cute when she struggles to remain quiet, especially when he can be as noisy as he wants, constantly showering her with sweet words and encouragement as she takes him so deep. It’s so much fun to see her flustered face, flush with excitement, and to tease her gently about them making love in such a risky place even as he praises her for it.

On those sorts of dates, Alice dresses a little nicer, but not too much, not wanting to attract unwanted attention from other people. It’s on the date nights at home that she tries to make special sometimes by dressing up in clothes definitely too... inappropriate to wear to a wedding.

(Oh hey, it’s my art for a change! Remember this from Alice’s initial concept sheet?)

Thigh-high stockings, a short skirt, midriff showing, fishnet sleeves, delicate jewelry, high heels, hair styled, and makeup carefully done... Alice might struggle to see herself as attractive, but she still gives it her all when dressing up for a date that isn’t just a casual outing. She wants to feel attractive on these nights... and Jack certainly does his absolute best to make sure she does.

Jack dresses up as well in that nice fancy suit. He can’t look shabby when Alice tried so hard to dress up for him, can he? The sight of her after she comes out of the bedroom once she’s finished is just... wow. He’s stunned every time, but his heart skips a beat as he realizes she bought a new outfit just for his eyes only. It’s such a rare treat to see her wearing clothes made to flatter her body instead of hiding it away.

At the same time, a more primal part of Jack wants to mess up all that hard work Alice put into her appearance. He wants to pin her down to the bed, smear the lipstick with his kisses, displace her top to give him access to her breasts and leave marks as rosy as her lips. He wants to pull her panties aside and gain access to the hidden treasure underneath, to drive himself deep inside her as she wraps her stocking-covered legs around him and calls his name as he reduces her to a beautiful loving mess.

Jack has to take a moment to compose himself. Later, he promises himself. Oh, there will be time to make plenty of messes with his sunshine later, but first comes the date. Alice worked so hard for his sake, and he would never want her to feel like her plans went to waste... and he certainly doesn’t want to throw away his own.

While Alice spent all that time getting ready, Jack cooked them a delicious meal. He went all out, preparing all of her favorite dishes. He even lit a couple (very colorful) candles to set a romantic atmosphere. She gave him access to her phone a while back, so he uses it to turn on the playlist he selected. He made sure to pick only nice romantic songs that would add to the atmosphere and not distract from it.

Alice has no idea what Jack has in store. She’s just happy to be on a date with him, treasuring these private moments together. They talk, they laugh, and they enjoy the meal he worked so hard to make. Jack doesn’t eat often since he doesn’t have to, and he’s mindful of her financial situation, but Alice enjoys eating together with him, especially on special occasions. He basks in her praise for his cooking, as well as the happy noises she makes as she takes those first surprised and pleasured bites. It makes all the work he put into cooking worth it, and when he mentions how he made it with love, her cheeks turn pink, and she tries to banter back that she can feel it.

“So can I,” Jack says, his dark eyes soft and adoring as he reaches across the table to place his hand on hers. Alice turns her hand over to lace their fingers together and admires his eyes in the romantic candlelight. “Sunshine... Alice... I love you so much.”

“I love you too, Jack,” Alice replies just as fondly, and she can say it easily now, her light blue eyes soft and shining in the light. “So very much.”

Even though the sun went down a couple hours before, Jack feels as though he’s basking in warm sunshine when Alice looks at him like that, and her words make him melt into a puddle of goo.

It’s time. Jack stands to move around the table to Alice’s side, their hands still laced together. She smiles at him and reaches out for him with her other hand as he bends down, expecting a kiss or even more... only for him to go lower. It catches her off-guard until she sees him get down on one knee and pull a ring box out of his pocket.

Alice is too stunned so speak, so Jack fills in the silence. He had an entire speech prepared. He talks about how much he loves her, how much she meant to him, how much she’s always meant to him since the day they met. She’s his angel who saved him from hell. She always looked at him like a person and cared about him even when she was afraid he wasn’t real or that his intentions might not be truthful at first. She was so kind and courageous, giving him a chance to prove how much he cared about her despite her misgivings or how hurt she was in the past.

Jack knows he can’t give her a grand wedding in front of all her friends and family... he can’t even promise a legal marriage. What he can promise is forever. Even if the world could never understand what they have, it doesn’t need to, because their love is more important than anything else in the world.

“Alice... will you marry me?”

The speech moved Alice to tears, smearing her makeup, but she was beyond caring. It was all she could do to choke back a whimper or sob so she wouldn’t miss a single word of his proposal. However, even after Jack finishes, her voice won’t work, too choked up with emotions, and she manages to nod. In her heart, she screams the word “Yes!” over and over, but her voice won’t cooperate with her. When she still can’t speak, she throws herself into his arms and clings close, nodding over and over as she buries her face into Jack’s neck and cries, overwhelmed and full of joy.

“It’s okay,” Jack coos softly as he nuzzles into her hair. “Take your time. I’ll be right here when you can say it out loud.” He kisses her softly then. “God... I love you so much.”

“Y... yes,” Alice eventually forces out, her voice cracking. “Yes,” she says again a little stronger. She repeats the word again and again, as it comes more easily each time. Finally she pulls back, her carefully done makeup ruined, but to Jack she’s never looked more beautiful. “Yes, I’ll marry you. Jack... Jack, I love you so much.”

Jack can’t hold back, he kisses Alice, pouring all his love into that single gesture. She returns the kiss with just as much enthusiasm, pawing at his back, a part of her desperately trying to get closer to him than is humanly possible. He draws her closer in return, only parting when she needs to breathe. As she catches her breath, her face adorably flushed, he slips the ring on her finger.

For a moment, Alice can only stare at the ring in wonder. It’s a beautiful thing, a gold band with a sunburst design around a blue stone with red and yellow accents. After a moment though, she has to ask how he got it, wondering if it’s something as supernatural (and unseen by others) as his changes of clothes.

Jack admits he ordered it online from a jeweler. He had to do it secretly so she wouldn’t find out, but he earned the money himself.

Stunned, Alice can only ask how, and though Jack is loathe to bring up Shaun during a moment like this that should be only about the two of them, he has to mention his friend and rival because he does owe Shaun for helping him. Practical effects for a horror movie are a lot more effective and unsettling with a ghost(?)’s help after all.

Alice can’t help but be moved by how far Jack went for her sake, and the tears flow anew. She kisses him, and he eagerly returns it. The time for talk has passed, and now it’s time for them to show how much they love each other with their bodies.

The mess they make together is even more amazing than Jack imagined. Alice is so beautiful wearing his engagement ring, moaning his name and telling him how much she loves him, forever. He makes sure to reward her for saying those beautiful words he longed to hear for so long by praising her, worshipping her body, and making sure she feels nothing less than the most beautiful and lovely person in the world.

Whatever else Alice might have expected to happen on their date night between dinner and their bedroom is forgotten as they lose themselves in each other. Even after Jack finishes inside her, he doesn’t pull out, and she won’t let him either with the way her legs remain securely locked around his hips. Kisses, soft and lazy follow in the afterglow, peppered with soft murmurs of love.

It would be a perfect end to the night, but Jack isn’t done, not by a long shot. Soon the fire is stoked again, and Alice welcomes to heat. She loses track of how many times they make each other cum, and soon all she can say is his name as he thoroughly loves her well into the night.

The next day, a text is sent in to her boss from her phone, stating that Alice is too sick to go to work. Jack lets her sleep in late for once and admires the way the morning sun makes his sunshine, his fiancée, shine.

They really will be together forever. Alice, this beautiful, wonderful ray of sunshine who pulled him out of hell truly loves him and wants to be with him forever. Jack can truly believe it now, and he’s never felt happier.

I love this question! I love talking ships I really do.

Romantically, Valewis isn’t for me. Not because I don’t think it would work, but when it comes to Lewis I’m a die hard monoshipper. George or bust! (prior relationships are their own discussion, but always endgame Britcedes over here)

But… BUT! Platonically/Bromantically? I could talk about Valewis for HOURS! ASK KIMY, I LITERALLY HAVE.

I am so down bad for the brotherly bond between Lewis and Val, the bond forged first in proximity then in familiarity. This especially goes for a/b/o au’s, Lewis is a born leader, someone people naturally turn to. Val is that perfect second in command. The quiet bastion that presses against Lewis’ back to prop him up when the pressure gets unbearable. The solem observer Lewis can trust to be level headed when he is facing questions without an easy answer.

I have a kink for positive masculinity, and my favourite way of expressing this in ideas and writing is always with Val and Lewis. Whether it be easy, casual touches that reassure each other (the grasp of a shoulder, the squeeze of an arm) or strong, tight hugs that let them ground each other. I Love talking about the angst of Lewis strung between Val and George when the seat change came, how he didn’t want to favour either but felt helpless when toto asked him what he wanted. He wants George, who has worked so, so hard to get here. Who has fought tooth and nail to climb, climb, climb. He also wants Val, who has stood by his side for years in the wake of Nico’s betrayal. Who had to deal with the pressure of being his teammate without much complaint. Who sacrificed himself for Lewis more than once. Oh bromantic Valewis you have ANGST you have BONDS you have FAMILIAL LOVE. You are PERFECT.

AND THEN YOU BRING UP DANTTERI? Anon I fucking LOVE DANTTERI. That IS my one and true Dan and Val ship now. I usually only have one set mono ship per fandom, I often chop and change everyone else pretty happily. But @blafard introduced me to Dantteri and I have been OBSESSED ever since. I now find it hard to explore other val and dan ships bc I’m always thinking about them (dantteri)

IT HAS SO MANY LAYERS. I know they have a shared history, which I’m still learning (I’m v much in need of a PowerPoint on this topic), but EVEN WITHOUT THAT there’s so much to them that’s just *chefs kiss*. The thing about Dan and Valtteri is they are opposites who have more in common than they would ever admit. They are loud and quiet, broad and long, light and dark. Dan with his blinding grin and black curls who invades Val’s stoic space to run a hand through bright blond hair and preen for the Finn’s rare, soft grin. The spice of Val turning it around on Dan to tease him over shared beers to see him blush.

They are both men who had incredibly promising careers that started to fade with the curse of the second driver. Guys who chased championships like every driver who then had to contend with the brutal realisation that they are no longer the best at what they do.

There is a bond between them in this shared angst, because who else would they talk to? With all respect, Val can’t talk to Lewis about what its like to be second best to him. Lewis is a legend made man in his talent, its just not something he would be able to get the way Dan does. For Dan, he lives under the mantle of being funny for everyone, and ends up feeling unable to break that act. Almost suffocated by the walls he built between himself and the grid, that Val sees right through. Val who looks at Dans tight cracked grin, grabs him by the neck, and hauls him in for the hug he desperately needs. Because Val gets it. He gets what its like to have everyone discussing your plateau as they build the path to your fall.

There’s so much angst to go with that comfort too. Angst in Dan making everything a joke so he can shield himself from being rejected by Valtteri. Every line tipped with a blade so he can whip back and defend his wounded ego rather than let himself be hurt again. Val who’s sometimes so solemn and unreacting it comes off as cold and dismissive, who locks up when faced with discomfort and distrust that Dan views him as Lewis’ shadow. Withdrawing into himself rather than bare himself for once. And can you just fucking imagine what its like for Dan, to see Val as a mirror of himself if he’d stayed at RB. If he would have been slowly pushed out?

Is that worse to imagine than the reality of what happened. Thrown to the side by McLaren in a tarnished heap. Mercedes may have forced Val to accept a role as second, but at least they had the decency to ensure he was placed safely before announcing George.

What happens to Val at Mercedes is Dan’s situation if he was in a team that actually loved him. You can say many things about Mercedes and how they treated Val, but at least they meant it when they called him family.

Dantteri is fucking amazing because at its core its about teasing opposites who bond under shared trauma. It’s about Dan finding a safe space in Val, and Val being allowed to complain without judgement. You can imagine them sharing glasses of gin under the stars as jokes give way to honesty. How they wont look away from the sky in case they must confront their vulnerability, but their fingers wind together and squeeze.

They prefer to keep a playful image in front of others but provide comforting support behind closed doors

The blurred lines sit strongly between Jaemin and Phoenix, as the two have never thought about hiding any kind of emotion from the other. Phoenix never felt the need to coddle and baby Jisung which in turn made the two closer in other ways, mainly the fact that she allowed him to grow in ways he felt suffocated - sharing his dreams, insecurities and how he endured what they were facing. The two are muchly in sync and often communicate without words but their bond is one that is constantly nurtured and left to grow which has resulted in what Somin feels as the most beautiful love she has in NCT. Jisung is someone that she always see’s in her future and one that she knows will be protecting her from all sides at every moment

definitely have a lot of influence from famous fantasy writers (t/olkien, c/s l/ewis, etc) simply bc they were such a big thing from my childhood & are big inspirations for my own writing. my friends' writing has an impact on my own too, technically - whether that's just an appreciation of a different style (which sometimes prompts me to try something different) or learning new words bc my vocabulary will never be complete & i'm all about improving myself as a writer

7. describe your favorite relationship dynamic. (can be any kind, platonic, romantic, familial, antagonistic, etc.)

i am a real sucker for found family dynamics (the a/katsuki are 100% a highly dysfunctional found family and i won't be told otherwise) & i thrive on antagonistic bonds that develop into mutual respect/friendship (& potentially romantic feelings, depending on the characters). love/hate is definitely one of my favourite ship dynamics (that's such a shock, i know). i also love a good slow-burn romance between damaged characters who have to learn to let people in again bc the potential for pain is just... *chef's kiss*

9. when you look at a new blog, what is it that makes you press the follow button? is it the muse, the aesthetics, the writing–?

definitely if it's a muse i'm interested in interacting with (or muses, for multis). if it's an oc, i like to see detailed information or some means of getting a feel for the character (bios for canon characters give extra points, particularly if there's some divergence involved). outside of the actual muse/s, the blog has to be easy to navigate & read, bc i'm not straining my eyes or searching blindly for pages. i like to have at least a basic set of rules so i can get a feel for the person behind the blog & there absolutely has to be a mun age listed somewhere. and obviously the writing is important, bc our styles have to gel together - and i have to know if the other person formats their posts to the point where it's unreadable bc... no. sorry, but no.

i am rather picky about who i follow when it comes to accessibility /shrug

11. describe your ideal outcome/endgame for the muse you are currently writing. if you are a multimuse blog: do this for your current favorite muse, or the muse of the last reply you posted.

gonna use my current top three muses for this bc i can never pick just one. in no particular order-

k.akuzu - obviously, not dying when he did, but ideally he escapes from his imprisonment in k.onoha and just... goes back to how he lived before the a.katsuki. roaming the world as a bounty hunter, gathering money & living forever. like, he's obviously a criminal who deserves to be locked up but at the same time... i just want him to do his own thing again

k.iba - he needs to be a dad. preferably to an entire pack of feral kids (90% daughters would be first choice) who run riot around the i.nuzuka compound. i don't even care who his partner is in this scenario, just make him a dad.

y.amato - the man needs to retire to a little cabin in the woods where he can live peacefully for the first fckn time in his entire life. have beautiful gardens he grew himself & a little vegetable patch & a home full of houseplants. but... given that he absolutely wouldn't do that bc it's y.amato, give him some baby ninja to train as a teacher.

4. Has your character ever witnessed something that fundamentally changed them? If so, does anyone else know?

Vestran civil war. An expected answer, I know, but he has an additional element of meeting with his family after so many years of no contact, and it brought not only old, childhood wounds that he can now identify for what they are, but also new ones, as he can properly understand what's happening now. I don't know the details exactly, but I know for sure he found a love for country that hasn't really been there before, as well as things he can't talk about except in fragments.

Also noteworthy - those three years between the Spire's fall and Karth. Having to grieve absolutely alone something as big as a whole life, numerous friends and loved ones, it really twisted something up in him greatly. That whole period in his life kinda sucks, ngl

17. What was your character’s favorite toy as a child?

A small wooden horse that he kept beneath his pillow and hid away whenever he knew Theo was angry at him, fearing she'd break it. She never did (I'm not even she knew it existed tbh) but the fear was there and real. He named it Hypos (quite literally "horse") and had several brightly coloured cloth saddles for it.

19. What is your character’s biggest relationship flaw? Has this flaw destroyed relationships for them before?

Oof, so Cass' biggest relationship flaw is his clinginess? When he enters a relationship, he has a tendency to commit himself fully and entirely, and that includes a need of frequent reassurances, a tendency to do just about anything to keep that person around (in his own words, if his own mother didn't want him at birth, what chance does he truly have with anyone else) and, once more, clinginess. And he knows he bonds quickly and strongly, so he's very, very careful who he enters a relationship with because of this very reason. He doesn't wanna end up being too much for people so they confirm his underlying worldview that everyone will at some point abandon him. Unprocessed abandonment issues do bite him in the ass... And he hasn't given them a chance to ruin any relationship yet. This goes for both platonic and romantic relationships.

41. Does your character feel that they deserve to have what they want, whether it be material or abstract, or do they feel they must earn it first?

It's... a mixture of both? Right now all he really wants is basic respect and decency as a person, which he doesn't really think you need to necessarily deserve? Respect as a person, that's earned. But not being treated like just a Wayfarer, but having his personhood considered and taken into account? Abso-fuckin-lutely not. As for material things, he'd ideally not like to steal if he doesn't have to, so yeah, he's willing to actually put in the work for them.

is it really trying if it’s me wanting to pick them back up again somehow? a muse that comes to mind when I think of that, anyhow, is majima goro from the yakuza / rgg series. he used to be a really big muse of mine off-tumblr and on discord, and I’ve been meaning to replay the yakuza series to get back acquainted with his characterization and all that but I just have memories associated with playing the video-game that make it hard to play alone. But I reeeeeeeally miss my mad dog because he was so fun to play and explore.

7. describe your favorite relationship dynamic. (can be any kind, platonic, romantic, familial, antagonistic, etc.)

would it be cheap to say all of them? it really depends on the character and how much their relationship is encompassed by a certain bond. for Kogami specifically, I enjoy all of them equally because he’s just the kind of guy to feel something with all his heart, therefore, a lot goes into how he feels and regards people. That’s a very inconclusive answer, but seriously, I’m a sucker for all of them so it’s hard to say.

10. what genre do you most enjoy, whether in roleplay, or fiction as a whole? (fantasy, period, superhero, etc.)

PSYCHOLOGICAL HORROR / THRILLER. and I don’t do it enough in my writing, but I love consuming it in general. I ALSO ENJOY CAMPY ACTION … I want to do more cyberpunk genre threads.

I want him to retire and stop fighting for once. He’ll probably only do so when he’s dead but I hope for an outcome where that isn’t the case for him. 💖 if you know, you know.

About Levi's bond to reader, what if she also was bonded to him but she wasn't an Ackerman (another family with the bond thing). So they are each others host. She's always very kind, gentle and motherly towards him but doesn't understand her feelings/actions towards him or why she is the way she is towards him. (not me trying to live my dreams through your headcanons hahhahaha xD)

Blood Bond Host Levi and his Ackerman Bond Host S/O Headcanons:

Trigger Warning: Mild bloody injury mention. Please keep this in mind while you read.

Explain this to the poor man. He is the host of someone with a bond similar to his own? And it's of the same person who happens to be his host? The confusion is never ending for Levi. You're a soft gently person, someone who wouldn't hurt a fly. But definitely a Titan, and maybe a Military Police Officer.

You became Levi's host first and he became yours not to long afterwards. The fact that he was in a position that awakened that power within you, guilts him. Going off the assumption that your blood bond is similar with his, he's added a new problem onto your shoulders. When he comes and confronts you about it, he's stunned how you just brush it off and instead, you reassure him. Something he didn't know he needed but was grateful for nonetheless.

Levi isn't shocked to see you staying close to him. He's glad you are because it makes it easier for him to keep an eye on you. But at the same time, it's a little difficult to adjust to. Even Hange isn't around him this much and he's unsure of how to act. He knows that you're instincts are responsible for this and it isn't on you by choices. So he tries to be more patient.

You surprise him more and more with each day. This time, you two were separated on a mission and Levi may have been a little careless. He managed to end up with a nice gash along the outside of his calf. He quickly wrapped it to slow the bleeding and continue on in the mission but he had to treat it when he got back. At the same time, something alerted you that something happened and the first moment everyone was together, you went to find him.

He didn't put a fight when you pulled him into his office and located his med kit. When it came to tending to the injury, he tried to convince you to let him handle himself but you told him no. Firmly but gently, very similar to a motherly nature that he used to know. But there was also another part to it that he picked up on while you worked. You were feeling guilty. Whether that be from his role as 'host' or simply that he's been around you enough to tell from your body language, how you feel.

Once the injury was cleaned and re-wrapped, you apologized. Levi stopped you before you said anything less from "I'm". He explained to you that it was ok to be struggling with this new feeling/instinct of needing to protect him. While he couldn't explain to you why it happened, he assured you he was ok with it. After all, he goes through the same thing as you. Levi's ears heat up and his cheeks become slightly rosy as he admits he enjoys you being around him and fussing over him.

The two of you eventually grow closer, whether it be romantically or just platonic. You're both learning more about each other and how to make life with being each other host's work. There's ups and downs but Levi wouldn't trade it for the world.

You've become an important person in his life and he cant imagine a day without you. Same goes for you. Levi's been the strength to your weakness. Since you're always such a caring and worrier of others, it makes it easy for people to walk over you. But ever since you've become his host, you find life is better and easier to enjoy. Maybe this is a good thing...

Here goes:

Lindir

Lindir is the first person to greet you when you come to Imladris. As Lord Elrond’s assistant and steward of his house, he feels responsible for you and wants to do his best to make you feel at home, making sure that your room is well-furnished and comfortable when you arrive and immediately asking what you need to personalize it, and finding everything to the best of his ability.

If there is something you want that isn’t immediately available, he’ll ask one of the many skilled artisans in Imladris to make it for you, or if they aren’t able to or don’t know how, he’ll try and order it in on one of the shipments to the Valley.

He’s really shy and fretful himself, and so it's super awkward between the two of you at first. Like-- painfully awkward-- because he recognizes and empathizes with how you feel and wants to help, but is way too anxious to do much other than interact with you in a professional capacity.

But you can sense that there’s something very warm and friendly behind his own overly-proper pleasantries that he clings to when he’s nervous.

He worries when you don’t seem to make any friends and keep to yourself at mealtimes, but he understands and doesn’t try to push you into anything.

One afternoon everything just becomes too much for you. You’ve stumbled over all of your social interactions and can’t stop beating yourself up about it, and you miss home so much it physically hurts somewhere inside your chest. You can’t even make it to your room before you’re in tears, so you end up hiding in a back corner of one of the secluded gardens, hoping no one will hear you cry. That’s when Lindir finds you.

He’s still very awkward about it, but he can’t stand to see you so upset and so he comes over and sits next to you and asks you what’s wrong, and he doesn’t much mind whether or not you’re able to tell him. He just sits there, present with you (maybe a little anxiously), and offers you one of his neatly-pressed white handkerchiefs.

And then he’ll finally blurt out: “I understand just how you feel” in one, tumbling mess. He adds that he doesn’t fit in very well either and he often feels insecure and worries what others think of him. But he’s quick to reassure you that no matter what lies you tell yourself, you haven’t given anyone any reason to dislike you and he’ll list all the reasons he admires you.

He’ll offer to fix your hair for you and he lets you take your time before going back to your day. If you want a snack or something nice to drink, he’ll make sure you get it.

And after that, he’s sure to check on you regularly and say hello to you when the two of you pass each other. And soon the two of you become fast friends, sharing in that incredibly strong bond that forms between two anxious people who know that the other person accepts them just the way they are. You become each other’s solace when social interaction becomes too stressful and overwhelming.

You end up using each other as an excuse to get away from anxiety-inducing situations, developing a knack for knowing when one of you is overwhelmed so the two of you can go somewhere quiet to calm down.

Just...ugh...absolute besties. 🥺

Glorfindel

Glorfindel introduces himself to you on your very first morning in Imladris. He knows everybody in Imladris, and everybody knows him, so he’s absolutely delighted to see a new face. He assumes you’re just passing through, but when he asks you quietly tell him that no, you’re here to stay. He’s thrilled and immediately wants to know everything about you, but backs off as soon as he realizes how terribly anxious you’re getting.

Since he knows you’re new, he makes a point to say hello to you and ask how you’re doing every time he sees you. He always has a bright smile and a compliment for you. He isn’t deterred when you can’t work up the courage to say anything to him. He knows he’s a little intimidating and he’s aware that you’re anxious, so he doesn’t ever try and drag you into conversations or take up too much of your time.

Whenever he notices that the other elves and non-elvish visitors in Imladris are making you uncomfortable (they all mean well, but you have such a difficult time making friends and group-interactions are fraught with all sorts of pitfalls for you-- especially when it comes to how badly you stutter when you get anxious), he devises some reason to lure them away from you so that you can have some space. And he’s very good at doing this without making it seem like he’s doing it.

Eventually he works up the courage to drop by your room with a plate of pastries (he has a sweet tooth and can’t think of a better gift) and knocks on your door. When you open it, he holds out the plate and immediately says: “I want to apologize for making you so uncomfortable on your first day here!” And of course he has to gush about the cinnamon rolls he’s brought you.

He asks if there is any way he can make you more comfortable, and offers to introduce you to some of Imladris’ quieter residents so that you can make some like-minded friends.

He continues to keep an eye out for you and comes to check on you whenever he hasn’t seen you in a while, just to make sure you’re doing okay (and he always brings sweets).

As you become more comfortable around him, he gifts you a gentle horse that he helped train, and offers to teach you how to ride. He promises to show you all of the best hiking and riding trails around the Valley and offers to take you stargazing anytime you like, as it’s a favorite pastime of his.

He’s always ready to listen if you need to talk-- especially about missing home. He understands completely! He misses Gondolin and is often struck with sea-longing for Valinor, but he’s bound to Middle Earth until his quest here is complete. The two of you swap stories about your homes and the people you miss, and he’s very good at knowing just what to say whenever you’re feeling especially lonely or sad.

Also he is an absolute snugglebug. You just have to say the word and he’ll shower you with affection: hugs, forehead kisses, cuddles, the whole works. He’ll even offer to spend the night with you if you don’t want to sleep alone.

Which of course turns into something a little more than friendship... but he’s respectful and keeps his distance, waiting until you’re completely comfortable with him before he even asks if you’re interested in him.

He’s thrilled when he learns that you return his feelings, and he’s so attentive and protective when the two of you are in a relationship. And he dotes -- making sure you have everything that you could ever want and then some, and makes sure to look after you whenever you’re having a bad day.

Erestor

Erestor takes the longest of the three to warm to you. He’s swamped with responsibilities as Elrond’s chief advisor and isn’t exactly the friendliest of elves-- and you find his grouchy, prickly demeanor daunting, so you try to stay out of his way as much as possible.

It’s Glorfindel that introduces the two of you to each other. He and Erestor are the best of friends and Glorfindel thinks the two of you would get along, if you could just get past Erestor’s grumpiness and Erestor could take five minutes out of his day to talk to you.

Eventually Glorfindel convinces Erestor to let you help him out with his office duties. It’s quiet work where you don’t have to talk to anyone. Mostly filing things, organizing, cleaning, and running small errands for him. Erestor really appreciates that you aren’t super chatty and eventually the awkward silences between the two of you morph into something much more pleasant. Both of you are grateful that there are no expectations of being sociable.

As time goes on, the two of you start to swap little facts and stories about yourselves. Not too much, just little things here and there when both of you feel like talking.

He always asks if you’ve eaten anything, if you’re sleeping enough, and whether or not you need to take a break. He’s also super perceptive and will insist that you take the day off to do something that makes you happy whenever he notices that you’re feeling extra tired, anxious, or sad.

Like Glorfindel, he keeps an eye out for you and notices whenever social interactions start to become overwhelming. He’ll rush over and bark some commands at whoever is bothering you, sending them off on some errand or reminding them of appointments or responsibilities that they’re neglecting. And, like Glorfindel, he’s very good at making sure that it never looks like he’s doing it for you, so no one ever gets mad at you for it. Everyone just always complains: “Ai, Erestor’s in a foul mood today!” which is nothing unusual so he doesn’t mind taking a hit for you.

He never gets upset with you when your anxiety gets the better of you and you start to stutter or shake. He just listens patiently. He doesn’t rush you. And he always asks if there is anything he can do to help.

He’s really awkward when it comes to reassurances and compliments, but he tries. A+ for effort.

He also sneakily asks Elrond if he has any herbal cures for anxiety, saying it’s for him and passing them along to you.

Like Glorfindel, he understands homesickness. He’s an excellent listener and is really good at sitting quietly and being present with you when you just need a friend to chill with.

So I discovered the trailer for Belle (2021), and it’s making me think about what I love about Beauty and the Beast riffs, and what makes a story scratch that particular itch for me or not.

And I think a huge part of it for me is the examination of monstrosity as a social role. To just use Disney’s animated classic as my base for comparison here, Adam, The Beast, is not literally cursed with fur and fangs, claws and horns- he has those things, and may have mixed feelings about them, others certainly have bad reactions to them-

-his curse is ostracization. His curse is to not be seen as human. What actual, physical features he has are irrelevant to that. They’re just quirks he can learn to live with, or a further excuse to tell himself he deserves this isolation, this frustration, this misery.

So the breaking of the curse, to me, is not the scene where Belle sobs confirmation of what we knew well before then into his stilling chest and brings him back, minus those quirks- if anything, that his happiness comes with the loss of those things has seemed to me (and I’m not alone) as almost something of a betrayal depending on how it’s framed.

By contrast, to me, the breaking of the curse is the ballroom scene, and the moments leading up to it. Adam returns to Adam, rather than The Beast, at the point that he decides that he deserves to be treated like a human being- not as a labor of love from Belle, but from himself. Yes, it’s love with Belle that they dance together, that they have this ball scene when there’s no high society to impress, but before that point, he had to make a decision; that he can clean up and dress nice and have an evening. That he deserves to.

When we first see The Beast, he has all of the means and resources to act like a prince, to present like one. He could make himself comfortable and be surrounded by splendor, but the truest thing he suffers under is he’s ceased to see himself as worth the effort. It’s not as if he could cut the fur down and prune back his claws, file down the horns, and look the way he feels he ought to- the way he thinks he should. He’s broken every mirror in his house except for the one he hides from, and this is a gesture of absolute defeat. He knows what he looks like. He can’t pretend he doesn’t. The only way he can tolerate this is not looking at himself.

As a neurodivergent queer person, the monster in the mirror is something I have a very complicated relationship with. I have an “advantage” in some ways. My appearance is not shocking to most people. I do not benefit from an obvious mobility aid or assistive device; I speak within a range people think of is normal. I have an “unusual haircut” for a “girl” and I don’t aggressively correct people on my pronouns or presentation.

But I’ve always had this feeling, that perhaps, my fangs and fur were simply easy things to trim off, and it’s so easy to wonder, would I still be okay if they weren’t? Because really, it’s none of the granular details that make a monster. For every imagined horror creature, there’s almost certainly a real animal it resembles, and real animals are not monsters. A monster is a monster; anything else, we believe, has a place, has a home. Deserves to exist.

To be a monster is to be a thing that doesn’t fit, or, more directly, to be a monster is to be a thing that is unaccepted. Rejected for not fitting. Unworthy of love, from within, or without.

At the end of the day, I know, factually, I am not a monster. I know that I’m a real person. I know that I deserve dignity and respect and love, even if only from myself. I’m not owed another person to love me just to prove that I can be, but, also, no man is an island; as humans we seek each other one way or another, romantically or platonically. That’s a fact of anyone, not just people who struggle to see a real person when they look at their reflection.

And yet, at this same time, I can’t help but feel betrayed, left behind, when the narrative goes that if the monster does everything right its reward is to be shaped into the likeness of a Real Human Being. Because you can’t just pull a feathered skin off me and make me like I “should be”, like my various diagnoses and self-identifications all present me as an aberration from. If you showed me a me without any of those qualities, that’s honestly the thing I’m the most afraid of, a me without me. A Miss Perfect who’s a good, normative daughter, and in my insecurity I wonder if people would like her so much better than me that they wouldn’t miss if I was gone.

Which, that’s nonsense. I know a lot of people who care about me the way I am. But nobody ever said fears had to be rational.

At the end of the day, as much as I hate the idea of being a monster to others, I also relish the notion of qualities that are categorized as monsters. I love dragons. I love putting big, horrible teeth and leering eyes and wings and claws on heroic characters. Because brought into the light, qualities are just qualities. And if you bring those qualities into the favoring, soft light of stories about human connection, romances, queerplatonic bonds, friendships and found family alike, those qualities can even be charming, alluring, inspiring; a character can look like anything and we still feel a rush of reassurance that this specific character is there.

And that’s the other side of Beauty and the Beast: Adam is running away from being a monster, and Belle is trying to run away from who she is, too. Because Belle is the other side of that trap.

Let’s be honest; it isn’t just that Belle’s an outspoken woman with opinions. It’s that she’s pretty. She’s the prettiest girl in town. She’s someone people want, people have expectations for- and those expectations have little room for what she actually wants. Hell, that’s one of the major dangerous driving forces of the climax- Adam nearly gets murdered by a mob because Belle made a choice that her community really didn’t like, especially Gaston, and it’s easy to point to Adam as the wrong choice because he’s pointy.

“Beauty”, as much as “The Beast”, are dehumanizing categories that people are sorted into. The doll and the monster. One is considered beneath monstrosity; beguiling, an object of appeal and desire but not someone with opinions, oh no, and not someone able to make a choice that you disagree with. People driven to the fringes by opposing forces but regardless find each other in the place they’re trying to find room to breathe in.

And that, I think, is one way some of these riffs can, for me personally, miss the point- and that’s not a mark against them, it’s just that there’s a specific thing I see in this story, and it’s very specifically not, “to be beautiful and desirable to mass public consumption is the way to be happy; we will have a story about how to rehabilitate someone so they can be beautiful too” but rather, “what does it mean when people stop seeing you as yourself, whether the alternative is perfection or a monster? what would you do to be seen clearly?”

Found out when Luke asked him what a ship was and why people were shipping him with Barbatos.

Doesn’t get it at first, until he sees Luke cooking with him.

It was like a lightbulb just went off in his head.

Ooooh… it’s because they both act like guardians to Luke, isn’t it?

Doesn’t have a problem with the man himself.

However, whenever he sees the fan art of the ships he gets all blushy.

Saved a photo or two.

He really doesn’t know what to do about it, or if he even should.

Refuses to talk about it.

Lowkey likes it..?

Wait no he’s an angel-

But Diavolo wants to strengthen relations between the Devildom and the Celestial Realm-

Conflicted.

Finds himself thinking about it more often then he would care to admit.

He doesn’t let it change anything between them though.

He’s convinced he only even considers it because so many other people like it.

Barbatos:

Oh? What’s this?

A ship between him and Simeon?

Well.. at least now he knows why Simeon was blushing at his phone.

Was introduced to the ship by a fangirling Diavolo.

Wouldn’t mind the ship becoming reality.

Doesn’t know whether he likes the ship because he gets to corrupt an angel or because they both share parental bonds to Luke.

Decides it doesn’t really matter and finds himself getting more and more curious about the angel.

Gets lowkey annoyed by Diavolo’s nagging and makes him do more paperwork in retaliation.

Constantly asking Simeon to bring Luke over to practice cooking.

Luke:

Asks Simeon about it when he stumbles across some fan art of it.

His initial response was ✨NO✨

Barbatos is a demon he doesn’t want him to corrupt Simeon.

Tries to keep them separated for a while.

Then he realizes he’d get two parents.

He’s all over the idea now.

“So, when are you two going to get together?”

It’s all over when he finds out about Simeon x MC x Barbatos.

He’s begging for it to happen.

But he also refuses to admit he ships it.

Highkey wants Beel to join the family too.

But like, as an older brother.

Diavolo:

Fangirled so hard he had to show it to Barbatos.

Actively tries to get them together.

Ends up getting more paperwork as a punishment.

That’s not stopping him though.

Enlists Solomon’s help to spread the idea and generate more fan art.

One of the biggest shippers out there, second only to Luke.

Solomon:

Has gotten kicked out of Purgatory Hall due to his nagging.

Ends up staying in the castle with Diavolo so they can team up and nag Barbatos about it.

Got kicked out of there too after Barbatos sent the the Future King to do more paperwork.

Corners MC and forces asks them to join in.

MC:

All over the idea the moment Solomon corners them about it.

Immediately gets their contacts to start producing fan art.

And by contacts we mean Levi.

Lowkey ships themself with Simeon and Barbatos if not in a romantic way at least a platonic way.

Luke is their child too ya know?!

Lucifer:

His first reaction was to hunt down MC and Mammon and hang them from the chandelier.

Left them there until dinner.

As far as the actual ship is concerned, he’s annoyed by all the trouble it’s been causing.

Hates that some of it includes MC but will die before he admits it.

Mammon:

He didn’t even do anything this time why is he being punished?!?!

Okay, so maybe he had tried to sell some fan art of the Barbatos x Simeon ship but it didn’t work.

Really, Lucifer is just being over dramatic.

At least he got to spend more time with MC.

Refuses to accept any ships that include MC (beside his own) and gets extra pouty when it’s brought up.

Leviathan:

THE fan art artist and MC’s go to contact.

Doesn’t care what the ship is so long as it’s not MC x anyone but him it makes MC happy.

As far as the actual ship goes he couldn’t care less.

Satan:

Doesn’t care about the actual ship but loves the fact that all the chaos it brought is annoying Lucifer.

Uses his connections to create more fan art.

Seethes when he sees MC thrown into the mix.

He’s over pretending it doesn’t bother him and will openly pout at MC for attention.

Asmodeus:

Yes yes YES!

The KING of shipping.

If it breathes, he ships it.

Loves the art, loves the ship, loves the people.

Gets as many of his followers to ship it too.

Doesn’t supply the fan art himself but he gets people to do it for him.

Makes jokes about it to the two of them every chance he gets.

Gets slightly jealous when MC is thrown into the mix.

When MC is thrown into the mix, he tends to add himself too.

My mcu favs w/ crush and relationship hcs (pt 2) (not proof read)

- gonna be honest she’s not familiar with romantic feelings, takes her awhile to even realize what she feels for you

- you make her heart all melty and soft, you make her face heat up, you make her question everything she does

- you make her feel even giddy and overly happy and it kinda annoys her tbh

- she thinks you’re out to get her or something and have casted some spell but when she asks thor he has no idea what she’s talking about until she describes what she’s feeling and he just laughs and thinks she’s joking

- she’s like no. I’m serious ?

- to which thor would tell her what it is, he has a bit of an idea because of Jane

- tbh loving somebody romantically, caring about somebody to this extent scares her

- she’s lost so many people and because of it became a raging alcoholic

- if she lost you she doesn’t know what could happen

- she tries to push you away but quickly realizes she doesn’t like doing that to herself or you

- asks you to go out drinking with her often if you’re up for that

- she’d find it funny how easily you get drunk but has no problem taking care of you, in fact she would probably drink with you more often so she can take care of you because it’s the closest to intimacy she feels she can have with you (no she is not taking advantage of you or anything, it’s more just the thought of taking care of you feels intimate to her)

- also you’re cute while you’re drunk

- trans with you so you can be tougher if you’re not that tough already

- tbh asks thor to do the same with you, whether it be cuz she’s not around or because you need the extra training

- in a relationship he is very sweet

- while he has no problem protecting you, he doesn’t feel the need to be overly protective unless needed

- he’s logical, reasonable, he only gets protective if he has to, even with how he feels towards you

- he’s okay with living comfortably and normally for once with you, unless it’s something you don’t want or are not ready for

- once you’re conditioned to a certain lifestyle, even if it isn’t a good one it can be uncomfortable to get out of and he understands that

- going on separate dates isn’t really an option since you guys fight left and right and are always with the guardians, but he decided every once a couple months you guys go on a date together and have some fun

- Loki doesn’t get crushes, so this is a new thing for him

- and tbh he doesn’t know how to take it either, especially when he realizes how strong those feelings actually are

- he hates the idea of being vulnerable in general, especially when it comes to you

- over time it just... happens

- but if there’s any indication he likes spending time with you he will try to lie his way through it, he’s a good liar of course so it probably works

- however he shows he at the very least cares about you, he shows a sign of protectiveness when it comes to potential enemies.. enemies that happen to be dangerous for you

- plus he’s around you like constantly and claims he has nobody else to harass

- he claims he doesn’t care about you at all, but even thor can tell through this lie

- the way he looks at you makes it obvious

- the way he doesn’t try to get you involved in his more dangerous schemes

- and if you do, and you get hurt he feels guilty and tries to help you feel better

- he claims he just owes you one for getting you hurt though

- eventually thor bothers him enough to get him to confess feelings, which takes a lot for Loki to even go through with

- he acts confident, even moreso after you say yes, but deep down was extremely nervous

- the male is good at making you feel important, after trying so hard to hide his feelings he is tired of it and just wants to be more honest about how he feels about you

- no issue being vulnerable, he trusts you but sometimes it can be hard

- he goes to you for a lot of his problems, even if you cannot help, just venting and you listening helps

- he was already with you a lot but now there’s no excuses and it’s even moreso

- “what? I just wanted to visit my beautiful s/o” “we literally just saw eachother 5 minutes ago can I please go to bed”

- likes pressing your foreheads together, he finds it sweet

- jealous of thor? Absolutely. Pls comfort him and tell him you’d never leave him for thor

- he’s so used to just not being as good as him, he wants to be good enough for you

- deep down there’s just so many insecurities he has

- so it causes him to worry like all the time

- having a reassuring and patient s/o is so good for him ^^

- flirting becomes a thing in your relationship

- it makes him feel more confident pls give him this

- protective, he feels like he has to be tbh because he never gets anything good in his life and if he does he loses it, he’s scared to lose you too

- if for some reason he can’t see you he makes an illusion of you to talk to

- when he fake dies you’re the first he goes to see so you don’t think he’s dead, he loves you he wouldn’t want to do that to you =(

- gonna be honest bucky with a crush is cute

- first of all he smiles at you a lot, Steve is the first to notice how much he smiles around you, it’s the most he smiles like ever

- just has a lot of nice conversations with you about anything and everything

- also whenever you’re around even if other people are around you he’s just like “hey y/n :)”

- heart eyes for you, just can’t help but stare all the time

- he has a staring problem but with you? Yeah 10x over

- Sam always has something to say abt it also

- his idea of flirting with you is really just saying hi to you, just being overly friendly which is noticeable for a guy like Bucky

- eventually would ask you out, he tries to ease into it but he gets a bit impatient

- he was also nervous asking you out but yk

- when dating him he becomes very protective

- one of the most protective bitches on the list tbh

- he gets nightmares about you dying like all the time it breaks him everytime though

- lots of cuddles, whether it be from a rough day, he’s just tired, or had a nightmare

- he likes his hair being brushed by you and played with, even when he cuts it

- he’s scared of killing you and turning into the winter soldier again

- has dreams about when he’s hurt and fought you as the winter soldier, he keeps thinking about if Steve wasn’t there to help, he really could’ve killed you and that terrifies him

- even when you tell him it wasn’t him, he appreciates it but still feels horrible about it

- touch that metal arm, but like gently Yknow . Nobody’s ever touched that arm with such kindness and it makes him soft and feel lucky

- speaking of soft Bucky is very soft, there’s many soft moments with Bucky and vulnerability

- it’s easy to be vulnerable with you but not others

- lots of handholding

- he loves hugging you for long periods of time

- still has a staring problem but now Sam openly makes fun of him

- just big dumb smile on his face as he looks at you

- especially when you’re dealing with kids, seeing you be around them makes his heart warm

- maybe he does wanna be normal, settle down and have kids

- though the thought scares him it is something he desires
