Fans will keep the air moving. This will prevent your soil or plants from getting moldy or rotting. If you intend to set up a big indoor garden in your basement, think of getting commercial or industrial-sized fans and heaters. They’ll keep your plants warm and healthy. 

Planters and Organic Potting Mix

You’ll need planters for your plants. Get lightweight pots with good drainage. You’ll need a mix of small and big containers. Also, consider using organic fertilizers instead of synthetics. You can use bone meal, cottonseed meal, fish emulsions, or manure.

Beginner-friendly plants are good if you’re new to gardening. Also, it’s the best way to test whether your plants can survive in the basement. Start with easy-to-grow vegetables and herbs. Also, give a thought to starting with dwarf varieties. They adapt quickly to any environment. They can also endure harsh temperatures or lighting conditions.

Just so negative A technique I have been working on for some time is called Paper Negative Photography. I have posted a few here and there but probably never really explained what it is about. So in a small nutshell here it is. The camera is a large format 1950's Speedgraphic. Everything is stock on the camera, the standard lens is the Ektar 127mm. This camera shoots a 4"x5" negative. The thing is instead of using a 4"x5" sheet of film I use photographic paper in the film carrier, not to be confused with Photo paper for an inkjet, this paper is coated with a light sensitive emulsion. To create this "selfie" I had to: +Set the camera on a tripod. +Pre-focus using a string +Set-up powerful photographic lights +take a light reading and dial in the settings f/stop +attach a long cable release to the lens +put the film carrier in the camera +cock the shutter +pull the dark slide +take my seat and measure using the string to my eye +be still while pressing the cable release +fire the lights with a remote (I use my light meter) +release the cable release +replace the dark slide

  Sound like a lot? Not done yet...

  +Pull the film carrier from the camera +take it into the darkroom (already setup and waiting) +pull the exposed paper negative from the carrier +place it into the developer and start a timer +for around 2 or 3 minutes carefully move the negative +pull it out and place it in Stop Bath for 30 Seconds +then place it into the Fixer for 5 minutes +then into water bath for a minimum of 10 minutes +pull and hang to dry Is it worth it? I think it is. It is original it is one of a kind. The paper has texture, you get an experience. I am showing the original scanned negative and the inverted positive.... kind of unique..

Synopsis: Getting a lee mood in the middle of conducting research is definitely not convenient, but you plan a way to make it work. It does, just not how you were expecting.

A/n: In other words I’m a massive science nerd, so here! Have this highly self indulgent fic inspired by hcs @squirmycuddles and I have made at like 2am lmao

You’re not sure why you’ve decided to sneak up behind Bruce - well, that’s not true, actually. You’re fully aware that you’re in a massive ‘lee mood right now, and are weighing up the odds of Banner t-wording you if you pester him. Tony seems to accomplish it easily enough, anyway; on a regular basis, too… You pause in your musings, fingers drumming against the lab bench. It occurs to you that you may not be the only touch-starved scientist in the labs.

   The centrifuge beeps almost angrily, loud enough to interrupt your train of thought. You remove the samples, and add drops of indicator to a couple, before placing the next rack of samples inside a water bath and setting a timer for half an hour. It only takes a few more minutes to jot down your observations, and you find yourself left to wait for the next round of samples.

   You glance to your left; Banner’s hunched over his lab stool, adjusting the coarse focus on his microscope. The pair of you talked for the first few hours, then settled into comfortable silence a while ago. Now or never, you suppose. Your glass of water’s empty, anyway - a good excuse to be getting up. You realize you’re overthinking this way too much.  Getting up and striding alongside the bench, you reach out and poke Bruce’s side as you pass. He flinches.

“I’m getting water. You alright? Need anything?”

“I’m fine, thanks.” Banner doesn’t look up. Darn. He does start readjusting the fine focus, though, and you feel a little guilty for jogging him. 

“Okay.” A temptation to toe the line encroaches, and you succumb to it - trying not to let your heart jump into your mouth, you pinch his side gently as you turn away, and keep walking. It’s difficult not to look behind you to see if he reacted, but as you push open the glass door on your way out, you catch him looking at you with confusion in the reflection. 

You proceed to take twenty minutes 'getting water' - which mostly consists of you filling a cup, pouring it out, crumbling against the kitchen counter in an attempt to compose yourself, and refilling the cup, before repeating the process. It’s only once you remember you have 10 minutes left on the water bath samples that you feel ready to head back down, all the while lamenting the fact that Tony makes irritating people look so easy. 

Fortunately, Banner says nothing as you enter the lab again, now finished looking at samples and instead drawing up diagrams. 

“Hey, how’s it coming along?” You put down a glass of water for him and put your hand on his shoulder, brushing his neck in the process but pretending you’re none the wiser. Your lab partner twitches and puts his pencil down.

“Good. I- the number of cells in anaphase is higher than the other samples, we might have to disregard this one in calculations.”

“Huh. Odd.” You say, pretending to listen whilst trying not to walk out for another twenty minute water break. 

“Yeah. How are the other batches doing?”

“Two are finished, one’s still in the water bath for-” You pause to look at your watch. “-9 minutes.”

“Okay. I might take a break, then.”

“Me too.” You pull your stool over, and sit opposite Bruce as he moves to a clear space on the desk, pausing to check his phone. 

“Are you feeling alright today?” He asks.

“Yep, yeah. Why?”

“I dunno, you seem kinda antsy.”

“I’m fine.”

“Okay.” He definitely doesn’t believe you, but lets the subject drop. 

“Uh- what about you? Are you doing okay?”

“Yeah! The tests are really interesting, I’m looking forward to finishing them.”

“Same. I should check to make sure they’re not boiling over…” You nod towards the water bath, managing to throw in a quick prod to Bruce’s ribs on your way over. The samples are doing fine; they’ve changed colour slightly compared to before, but if anything look like they could do with a bit longer in the water. 

“Did Tony tell you to tickle me in his absence or something?”

You almost drop the test tube rack you’re getting out.

“Sorry- what?”

“You keep tickling me. Why?” This shouldn’t be a surprise to you at all - this acknowledgment of the situation is what you’ve been waiting for, but suddenly you’re praying for the floor to open up. You stay facing the bench, refusing to look at Bruce.

“Just bored, I guess.”

“You sound like Tony right now.”

“I do?” Your equipment’s set up, so you can’t really do much else except for return to your stool opposite.

“Yeah. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you were asking for attention.” Banner smiles slightly as he says it, and you instantly wish you’d stayed at the bench.

“Pfft,” You start, but find yourself scrambling for words. “I can assure you, I’m not Tony.”

“Good to know.” He grins, shifting his stool to get back to work. You let out a breath you didn’t realize you’d been holding. 

“…But if you do it again, I’m gonna have to assume that you are.”

“Meaning…?”

A DIY UV exposure unit

UV exposure unit is a vital component in printing and mass-manufacturing industries. I decided to build a UV exposure unit to assist my screen-printing and PCB prototyping needs. After examining the market, I decided to construct this unit using black fluorescent tubes. Those black fluorescent tubes are usually available to purchase in many electrical shops here in Sri Lanka. 

To drive the exposure unit, I build an electronic controller using ATtiny2313A MCU. This controller is capable to handle the exposure unit for up to 999 seconds (approximately 16 minutes). This electronic controller got two high-power relay driver stages, an audible notification unit, a safety lock, and a programmable timer.

The fluorescent tubes are drive using four separate chokes and starter units. For this unit, I use four NEC 20W - 60cm (T10) black fluorescent tubes.  12V, 5A SMPS is used to drive the relays and electronic controller unit.

Enclosure construction is the most time-consuming part of this project. It took nearly two and half months to finish the enclosure with all the fittings. Primarily, I build the enclosure using aluminum bars and aluminum composite panels. The dimensions of the enclosure unit are 74cm × 40cm × 19cm (with lid) / 15cm (without lid).

I exposed several paints and adhesives using this unit with higher success, including screen-printing photo emulsion paints and inks, several PCB protective coatings, etc. Usually, I use this unit to produce screen-printing screens and to fabricate PCBs for my prototyping projects. The controller schematic, PCB design, firmware source code, and compiled firmware binaries of this exposure unit are available at my GitHub repository.

I love face masks. They are my ultimate relaxation tool. Having a bad skin day? Face mask. Going through a breakup? Face mask. Prepping for a first date? Face mask. Girls night in? Face mask. You get the point. Face masks are great. Not only are they so relaxing and comforting to use, they also help make your skin look it’s best. However, not all face masks are equal. Some do absolutely nothing for my skin while others have the magic and power to transform my skin into a glowing, clear masterpiece. So here are some of my favorite face masks that do the latter, not the former.

Fresh Black Tea Instant Perfecting Mask

This is my holy grail mask that I always reserve for special occasions. If I have a big event coming up that I need my skin to look extra good for, this is the mask I reach for. Honestly, I don’t know what is in this mask that allows it to do it’s job so well but after I leave this mask on for twenty minutes, my skin is so glowy, bright and hydrated. All the unevenness in my both my skin tone and skin texture has disappeared and my skin feels so soft and smooth! If y’all are a big fan of drinking kombucha, you’ll definitely be a fan of this mask because it’s powered by a proprietary complex of black tea ferment AKA kombucha that inhibits damaging free radicals and helps to improve skin elasticity!

Dior Hydra Life Extra Plump Smooth Balm Mask

This mask is my saving grace when I have any dry skin on my face. I rarely use this mask all over my face because it’s so rich and nourishing so it makes me break out. But, when I am feeling under the weather and my nose and lips are dry, I put a heavy layer on those areas over night (even though you are only supposed to leave it on for 3 minutes - I’m a rebel). It’s so soothing and instantly makes my dry skin feel repaired and hydrated! And because it’s plumping, it makes an amazing lip mask! I wake up the next morning with plump, moisturized lips! 

Clinique City Block Purifying Mask and Scrub

This is a dual purpose, 2-in-1 mask (I love a multi-tasking queen) that both detoxifies and exfoliates. It’s a charcoal clay mask so it’s going to suck all the impurities out of your skin. All the dirt and oils are extracted out of my pores when I use this mask. But that’s not all, it also has little natural silica beads that gently exfoliate the skin when you wash off this mask in circular motions. I love using this mask when I want a really deep clean and want to clear out my pores. Plus the bright blue colour turns into a light blue colour (when it dries) so you know exactly when to wash it off! No need to set a timer!

Bio Beauté Radiance Detox Mask

This is a new addition to my mask collection but I have really been liking it! This mask is super cool because it has a 3-step texture. First, you apply the  Vitamin-Rich Detox Mask in a thick layer and leave on for five minutes. After, you massage the mask into your skin and the gel transforms into an oil. Then, when you wash the mask off with water, the oil  becomes a milky emulsion which helps it wash off easily! I find the three textures really help to clarify and detoxify my skin which adds so much more radiance to my complexion!

Farmacy Honey Potion Antioxidant Mask

This is probably the coolest mask I’ve ever tried... or should I say the warmest mask I’ve ever tried? This mask is actually a warming massage mask, meaning it heats up on your skin when you apply it. It’s a super relaxing sensation. It starts out as a sticky honey-like texture, but when you begin to massage it into the skin, it warms up and turns into a white creamy texture! The purpose of this mask is for brightening, which I did see some results but I feel like you would have to use it more to actually notice the difference. 2. The Face Shop The Solution: Nourishing Face Mask source: The Face Shop/ Nature Collection thoughts: “This face mask features a light-as-air sheet that feels soft and weightless in skin. The serum containing Propolis provides a nourishing solution to exhausted skin.” I found this to be alright. I’m finding now that the more I use this line of face mask, I’m not a fan. I do like that this mask contains propolis, but other than that this mask is not something I would lean towards. I also feel like this mask may have broke me out a bit as well since it does contain sodium hyaluronate. rating: **

3. Nature Republic Real Comforting Mask Sheet: Collagen source: Nature Republic (Korea) thoughts: “The ingredient of collagen helps the skin keep moist and makes the skin feel soft and radiant.” I’m not really a fan of masks that are an emulsion type. I tend to like ampoules or essence ones more. But this one was not bad, it was hydrating and absorbed into the skin. rating: **

4. Nature Republic Real Comforting Mask Sheet: AHA/BHA source: Nature Republic (Korea) thoughts: “Ingredients such as AHA and BHA smoothen rough, uneven skin texture by removing dead skin cells and sebum.” I do like that this mask is an ampoule type. I just find that ampoule and essence type of mask sheets seem to have a lot more product and it absorbs a lot quicker.   rating: ***

5. LuLuLun Premium Kyoto Green Tea Sheet Masks (7 Sheets) source: T & T Supermarket thoughts: These masks have a light citrus-green tea kind of scent to them, which I love. The matcha tea leaf extract helps even out skin texture, loquat leaf extract helps tighten and calm skin, silkworm cocoon ball extract helps hydrate and firm skin. These masks were amazing especially when I used it consecutively, I did see a difference in my skin. In addition, it really helped heal/ soothe my skin and prevent any further breakouts. rating: ****

6. Healing Bird Hand Cream: Provence Lavender (10ml) source: YesStyle thoughts: I’m not a big fan of this. The scent doesn’t really smell like lavender, or that it’s a lavender scent that I have not smelt before. I’m definitely not a fan of this collection of hand creams. I did lose the Nice Orange one which I also found to have an odd kind of mixture of scents/notes in it. I still do like the formulation of these though. rating: **

7. Cotton Labo Cotton Pads (100pcs) source: OOMOMO thoughts: These cotton pads were not worth the $4CAD. I rather buy the Muji ones which were better than these. These absorbed a lot of product and weren’t strong either. rating: *

8. G9Skin AC Solution Clear Spot Patch (12 patches) source: YesStyle thoughts: These are definitely one of my holy grail patches. This brand has patches all in the 12mm size and you get 60 of them in a box. Since these have become my holy grail I won’t be including them in my future empties anymore, only when I have completed the whole box unless my opinion has changed on these. rating: *HOLY GRAIL*

9. Huxley Secret of Sahara Oil Essence; Essence-Like, Oil-Like (30ml / 1.01oz) source: YesStyle thoughts: I just really like this and the formulation of it. It really hydrates my skin and is great under my moisturizer. It is on the pricier side, hence I do have this on rotation. I finished this product in 28 days, using it every night and two droppers full each night. rating: ****

10. Colgate Optic White Renewal: High Impact White (70ml) source: London Drugs thoughts: This was a fairly new product and I decided to give this a go. I still haven’t found a toothpaste that helps whiten my teeth yet. This also didn’t fair well. It says it removes 10 years of yellow stains when brushing twice daily for 4 weeks which is what I did. And this did not help at all. If it did it was probably very minimal but I didn’t notice anything at all. I feel like I had better results with other toothpaste or even the regular optic white which is slightly cheaper. Overall, okay toothpaste but didn’t see any results. rating: **

11. Foreo LUNA play source: Beauty Event thoughts: I did own a Clarisonic along time ago and wasn’t a big fan of it. I debated on getting the Foreo before since it seemed like a better device than the Clarisonic plus no need to purchase brush heads. I really enjoyed using this little device as it was able to get the nose area quite nice as well. It says that it lasts for 100+ use and supposedly has a 1-min timer. One thing I noticed was that there was no 1-min timer. Secondly, I feel like it didn’t last me 100+ uses but it’s hard to say since I wasn’t using it every day. This did last me about 6 months though before it died on me. I am considering purchasing this now since I really liked how clean it made my face feel. I just don’t know if I want to get a mini one again or a full size. I was looking at the LUNA go at one point which is kind of pricey for something so small but it is the same size as the play and is rechargeable. rating: ***

12. dear, klairs Mid-Day Blue Sun Lotion SPF40 PA++ source: YesStyle thoughts: This is actually the older version that I have. It has been in my stash since Nov 2017. I decided to give this a go since it was expiring soon, only to find out that there was a new formulation coming out when I started using this. A lot of people have said that this sunscreen leaves a white cast, I didn’t notice one too much or more like there was but it went away after a while. This also took a while to absorb/ blend into the skin. I did notice that if your skin isn’t really hydrated it will highlight the dry areas and throughout the day will make the dry areas even more noticable, which I did not like. Overall, I wasn’t a fan. I heard the white packaging sunscreen is a lot better also the reformulation of this is suppose to be better now as well. I might give this a go again since it is a chemical sunscreen. I did use this for a good 3 months even after it has expired in July. I would say maybe about half or 2/3 of it is left but I just don’t like it, hence I’m going to discard it. rating: *

11. Royal Milk Tea (280g) source: Foody World thoughts: Usually you would find this tea mix sold individually in a box but I found a bag of this. I absolutely love the bag version as I feel like it gives a bigger yield and is cheaper. However, this is hard to find for me and is not always available at my Asian grocery store. This brand in particular is very good, if you have ever tried the bottle version of this. I have purchased a different version to try as well, since that was the only one available at my Asian supermarket, we shall see how that fairs. rating: ****
