Trying to get L’s approval while working on the case, appeasing him every day, only to come back empty handed with his back handed compliments and unusual ways. Only gaining the attention of Light.

Bathroom lights flickered greatly, muffled crying could be heard if you listened close enough. Files and different papers were spewed across the tiled floor. (Y/n) sat against the stall door, doing her best to ease her quiet sobs, hand pressed against her mouth to muffle the sound.

“Stupid, hes so fucking-” Her voice cracked as she buried her face into her knees. L had always been an odd one, and (Y/n) tried her best to understand it to the best of her ability. She’d clean up after him, cater to his every need, she’d wait on her hands and knees for him just for his approval. The girl was shot down every time with his backhanded excuse of a ‘thank you’, mostly just dismissing her completely. He treated her as nothing more than a distraction.

(Y/n) couldn't help but feel hurt at each side-eye glance, every dismissal. She acted so greatly towards him and was met with nothing in return. The Kita case was stressful enough, it drove her into the ground the moment she was assigned to assist the department with it. And meeting L was just rubbing salt further into the wound.

“(Y/n)?”

Her head shot up at the voice. Light. Light had been assisting his father with this case the best he could, and was treated just about the same way as she was. His soft, gentle tone made her sob further.

“(Y/n), I’m sorry about him, really, he shouldn't have said those things to you.”

The girl shifted on the floor, moving away from the door as she felt it being pushed open. Light peeked his head inside, giving her a small, sympathetic smile. The sight of her tear stained cheeks, red eye’d combo musnt have been a pretty sight, of course.

Light had been a supportive one, he was a good boy.

Raised in a traditional household, he was so average , and it was so awfully nice.

He moved to sit across from her, sliding down onto the tile floor below. Taking a look around at the papers she’d been given moments ago.

“He expects you to file these? Geez, none of them are even categorized correctly.” He laughed lightly. Doing his best to lighten the mood, as best as he could of course.

The silence wasn't comfortable, it was more painful than anything. (Y/n) didn't acknowledge the boy, only burying her face further into her knees. She felt embarrassed, her breakdown leading to having a colleague try to comfort her, in the women's restroom nonetheless.

Her thoughts were abruptly interrupted, causing her to lift her head up to see.

Light had gathered a paper or two, and promptly, ripped it in two.

“I say, Fuck him, he can eat shit if he’s gonna treat you like this. Go on, grab one. Rip it. You'll feel much better” She raised an eyebrow at his statement, looking curiously to the halved sheet in his hands. Why not? Letting her hands fall from their position, she took the paper that was offered to her. Staring down, Light was right, it didn't make any sort of sense.

“So…rip it?” She questioned, to which he nodded. “Rip it.”

And she did. And afterwards, she felt better. She did it again, and again, he joined in until there weren't any papers left to rip. The act had given her a chance to smile, widely at the childish deed done.

“Your work-” Light piped up, gaining her attention once more, smiling at the sight of the joy finally coming back to her. “I think its fantastic. What you're doing for this case, it's phenomenal. We wouldn't be this far without you.”

And he was right. Who needs L’s satisfaction or approval, especially when you're trying this hard. (Y/n) acknowledged her own work, and she couldn't help but agree. They'd be nowhere without her. Her time spent wailing in the bathroom won't go unnoticed like her hard work. She made a mental note to rip L a new one later.

Barely any time passed in the stall as she soon moved next to Light, his arm held around her gently. Her head rested against him as they admired the scraps of paper on the floor. A memory they'll cherish for a while, a silly glimpse of hope through these hard times. her laugh echoed against the stalls as she looked up to the smiling boy who held her close.

“You're a bad influence, Light Yagami. ” She heard the door to the restrooms open. “And I love it.”

a bit of both i think? i think itd be less of a visual change and more of a personality change (he might make changes to his wardrobe if you don't like his casual manwhore look, MAYBE make changes to his hair if you prefer) but he'd definitely slowly shift back into being himself once he's sure you're not going anywhere. unless his original personality is what you prefer of course lol, makes it way easier on him
