"Mom," Steve whispered in the inky blackness of his parents' room. "Mom, there's something under my bed."
Patricia Harrington turned over. "Steven, go back to sleep," she murmured.
"I can't." Steve said. "There's a monster."
"No such thing." his mom said, angrier, more awake. "Go to bed now, and if I catch you out of bed again you can forget going to Tommy's this weekend."
Steve nodded and padded back down the hall, pausing at his door then taking a running jump into bed.
The room was silent.
"I know you're here." Steve whispered, making sure all his limbs were tucked safely away under the covers. "You don't scare me."
A couple minutes of quiet, then Steve heard a scraping sound come from under his bed. He squeaked and pulled his blankets up to his nose.
A horrible, raspy laugh came from below him. "I do scare you!" said a voice. "You lied!"
"No-no you don't!" Steve said boldly. He clutched his blanket tighter, then said, "I can't be scared of something I can't see! That's just dumb."
Something dark began to slither across the floor out of the corner of Steve's eye. Oh, I'm gonna regret that, he thought.
The thing began to pull itself up, looming over Steve. It cracked a smile, and sharp white teeth gleamed in the light from his closet.
Steve screamed.
"Shut up!" his dad shouted angrily from downstairs, and Steve clapped a hand over his mouth, eyes flicking between the shadow and the door like he wasn't sure which monster to be more afraid of.
The monster crept toward him, and Steve dug his fingernails into his face, scooting away from the horror. He whimpered, not daring to close his eyes.
Then the monster began to shrink.
It shriveled away, changing color and backing up, until a little boy, about Steve's age, stood in front of him. He had long curly hair and was dressed in a t-shirt that was way too big on him. When he opened his eyes, Steve flinched, because the whites of his eyes simply...weren't there. His eyes were an onyx black.
"Hi," the boy said. "I'm Eddie."
Steve was too stunned to speak, but he did uncover his mouth.
"I'm the monster under your bed!" Eddie said. "I'm supposed to scare you, but, um-" he risked a quick look at the door "-I don't think you need my help for that."
"Why are you supposed to scare me?" Steve asked.
Eddie shrugged. "Dunno. Every kid's got one. It's just how it works. I was made to be your monster, forever!" He sat down on the edge Steve's bed, bumping Steve's shoulder against his. "Weird to be on this side of the bed. No dust bunnies or anything."
Steve giggled, forgetting his fear. "You're fun!"
Eddie grinned at him. "Thank you! None of the other monsters think my jokes are funny."
"So you have to scare me?" Steve asked. "But you're not scary. Not after talking to me."
Eddie paused. "Oh, right. I'm not supposed to talk to you. Um..."
"What if we just say you're scaring me?" Steve asked. "I'll pretend I'm really scared of the monster under my bed, and you pretend you scare me every single night. But really we're hanging out instead of scaring!"
"Ooh, I like that idea!" Eddie struck a dramatic pose. "I'll be the monster under your bed, but I'll be ready to protect you if you need it too!"
Steve stuck out his hand like he saw his dad do for business deals. "Deal?"
Eddie shook it. "Deal."
-
Steve sprinted through the forest, the kids hot on his heels. "There!" he shouted. "Everyone in!"
The kids bolted to the abandoned cabin, and Steve slammed the door shut. "Is there a bed in here?" he called. "A couch? A fridge?"
"Bed's in here!" Will yelled, and Steve followed his voice to the cluttered bedroom, complete with partially-caved-in bedframe. He gingerly took a seat on the mattress, cringing when it crackled. He did not need to know what was on this.
"Eddie?" he called, tapping on the flaky painted wood.
The shitheads crowded in, and Mike murmured. "What the fuck is he doing?"
Steve ignored him. "Eddie, come on, I need your help."
Something tall, dark, and lanky slid out from under the bed, and all the kids jumped back in fright, raising their various weapons. Steve leapt to get in front of them, raising his hands as a shield. "Chill! Calm down, this is Eddie!"
Eddie shrank into his human form, draping himself over Steve. "You had to summon me to the nastiest bed in Indiana? Really, Steve?"
Steve shrugged. "This was the closest one. We need your help, Eds."
"We?" He focused on the Party. "Well, these must be the infamous buttheads." Eddie slid into the shadows and reappeared behind the Party, inspecting them. "Dustin, Mike, Lucas, Will, El, Max, right?" he said, pointing at each one as he said their names.
"What the fuck are you?" Dustin asked.
Suddenly Eddie was under Steve's arm, wrapping a hand around his waist. "I'm Steve's monster under the bed." he said. "I'm just... friendlier with Steve than most of the monsters I work with."
Steve rolled his eyes. "You can tell him you're my boyfriend, they know I'm bi." He kissed Eddie on the cheek.
The kids all broke into gasps, except for Max, who fake gagged. "Don't be gross!" she yelled. "Demogorgon outside, remember?"
"Ah, right." Steve said. "Eds, can you-"
"On it." Eddie kissed Steve. "I'll be back."
The kids watched Eddie melt into shadows, then wheeled on Steve. "Steven Don't-Know-Your-Middle-Name Harrington," Dustin said. "You have a lot of explaining to do."
edit: i did not expect this response to the short little thing that took me 30 mins max at 2am!! i’m planning on rewriting it and turning it into a full length fic, so i’ll come back and edit this with the link!

May tumblr endure the pain of all the angst fics on it's sight for eating your askbox.
Well then, I'm really glad you liked the Selkie!Ghost prompt I sent in :D, I loved what you did with it ^^ -X/3NH
(If you want the old prompt just tell me)
Okay new prompt: Ghost is a monster that lives under the bed and in the closets of children. Soap has been the singular person he's haunted, not by choice, just because Soap won't have a single nightmare related to him. In fact, Soap sees him as a friend.
Ghost's kind feeds off nightmares related to them, so he's latched to Soap until he can get a singular nightmare out of him. But Soap is now in 141 and he still hasn't had that nightmare relating to him.
So Ghost now protects Soap because he's grown attached.
(Do what you want w this concept, but I was thinkin Ghost takes a shot for Johnny, but gets that nightmare he wants so bad, it's about him dying in Soap's arms. Ghost's now free, free to choose another contract, but he doesn't want to get anymore nightmares, he wants to be with Soap. (also his family isn't too nice cause "he's the reason SOap doesn't experience nightmares, he's doing it wrong" (No soap is just a massive fan of monsters and doesn't feel scared around them)))
Wow thats a lot, well enjoy ^^
Hello friend! I want to say, I absolutely adore your asks and I'm sorry for always taking so long to answer them! They usually need to be a tad longer than my normal stuff and I want to do them justice! Also, did some very mild experimentation with some formatting/punctuation. Nothing super noticeable but if you notice something looks weird, its on purpose!
Also, Ghost is also a child for the first portion of this. He matures a bit faster but their age gap is only really a year (felt weird writing about an adult monster under some kid's bed)
Ghost had never, ever heard of a kid like Soap. The kid was... well. If changelings were real, Ghost would put money on him being one.
Soap regularly grabbed spiders and played with him. Not the cruel playing of little tyrants that ripped their legs off, but a genuine, loving little thing. He'd pet them and let them crawl over his hands and set them outside when they started to get agitated.
Snakes fascinated him. The first time he managed to see one at school, he came home, sat on the floor and told Ghost all about it. How the scales moved and reminded him of Ghost's arms. Then he asked Ghost if he was a snake which made him lash out and try to yank the kid under the bed.
However, since Soap feared him no more than he feared snakes or spiders or soft kittens, he just went straight through him. It looked more like he tried to pat him than anything else.
Ghost couldn't believe it. Other monsters his age were back home! Bragging! And here he was, taking way too much time.
"I'm going to kill you!"
Soap sighed. "You're always so grumpy. Do you want me to make you a cup of tea?"
"...I guess." Ghost pouted.
Soap smiled at him, radiant. Ghost wondered if he was made out of the sun.
The tea was delicious. He even got biscuits on the side.
"Why do you want me to be scared of you anyway?"
Ghost refused to talk to him about it, worried it would ruin his chances of ever going home. Soap smiled at him.
"Is it like a grade? If you scare me, you get a better grade?"
"Something like that." Ghost agreed. "I need to scare you."
"I will do my best to be scared by you!" Soap smiled at him and finished eating.
On Soap's thirteenth birthday party, far far after when Ghost should be long gone, he asked for some odd things. Horror posters and books about mythology. Ghost knew he was trying to get more information on him, probably to banish him.
Soap never did anything though. He continued to be his friend with so much ease. He also never told anyone else. At some point, Soap realized this was abnormal and instead of panicking like Ghost had hoped or maybe telling someone, he just moved on.
"We're friends. I couldn't endanger you like that." Soap had answered honestly when Ghost asked.
"We are NOT friends."
Soap smiled easily. "I'll get you to admit it one day. I promise." He gently nudged Ghost's shoulder. Ghost hadn't been touched in a while and the fact that Soap could touch him but he couldn't quite touch Soap was... weird. A little scary.
Soap smiled at him gently.
Ghost hated the day that... man put the idea of the military in Soap's head. He inspired Soap apparently. Sent him on this spiral to try to get into the military.
"Fucking hell, Johnny. The military?" Ghost sat on his bed and stretched out. His shadows had shifted from... well shadows into dark clothing. Recently, he had gotten used to adjusting them to look like a leather jacket, leather pants and dark gloves. If this so happened to be exactly like Soap's most recent movie crush, then it was purely coincidental. And if maybe, just maybe, Ghost enjoyed the lingering gazes from Soap, that was also coincidental.
He cropped up in Soap's dreams sometimes, but it was never frightening. The only reason he even knew was because Soap sometimes muttered his name in his sleep.
"It would be great! Going out there, helping people, good innocent people. Going on missions and adventures."
"Your brains being splattered against the ground. Dying. Fucking up and hurting people that don't deserve it." Ghost grinned, ignoring Soap's scrunched up face.
"Stop being such a bawbag. This isn't going to scare me so you're just doing it to be a dick." Soap hit Ghost with a pillow.
Ghost laughed and laid flat on his bed. He went quite when Mrs. MacTavish passed by, asking if either of them needed snacks. "She can't hear me, can she?"
"Course she can. Why couldn't she?" Soap tilted his head.
Ghost frowned. At this rate, he might as well just become human. He already fucking was. "How long?"
"About two years now. She thinks you're super shy." Soap explained, not understanding how terrible this was for Ghost.
Ghost dissolved, slinking under the bed.
"Wait, Ghost!" Soap looked under the bed. "Come on. Are you sad about your family again?"
"LEAVE ME ALONE."
Soap flinched and sighed. "I'll make you tea, okay?" He left Ghost alone for a bit while he did.
Ghost did miss his family. He couldn't go back until he fucking got a stupid nightmare and he was hungry because Soap's dreams were so fucking devoid of any fear. Stupid asshole.
The tea made things a little better.
When Soap finally got everything together to join the military, he was 15. Too young to actually join, but that wasn't going to stop the asshole. He planned to join and Ghost had to go with him.
The problem? While Ghost was roughly 16, he didn't have any papers saying he existed and he couldn't just wait for Soap to come home on his leaves. So he just made some stuff. Fake documents and different things. he was also very, very fleshy. Soap and him had touched hands and his skin felt the same way.
It disgusted him. He really, really hoped that while they were in the military, Soap would learn fear.
But that didn't happen.
Because Ghost was accepted and Soap wasn't.
"You're clearly too young. Try again next year."
Ghost felt his heart drop.
Shit.
This did not occur to him as a possibility.
Soap immediately started in on the man while Ghost sat there, stunned. He tried to smoke away. Dissolve and reappear miles away and back home.
His body refused. Panic flooded him.
No.
Fuck.
Ghost spent... three years? Time was weird. But he bumbled around the military. For the first time... ever, he ate what he was supposed to. Nightmares. None of them were good enough. They weren't Soap. It was better than the nothing he had been experiencing the past 19 years. That's when they reunited again.
Soap flinched when he saw him before hearing him speak and immediately brightening. "Hello... Simon."
"Hello, Johnny."
So Ghost watched out for him. He had to keep him alive and safe. Both because of his job and also because Soap needed to dream of him to set him free.
Soap still dreamed about him. Ghost could hear him speaking his name in the dark of night. Saying it with a tone that Ghost heard other people use in these scenarios. It was different than the playful manner of when they were younger. For some reason, it made Ghost's chest flutter.
Somehow, Ghost became a Lieutenant and Soap became one of his Sergeants. They worked together well and no one ever suspected it was because they were old friends.
Ghost had long since felt human. Any connection he had to being a monster gone. Even if he fed off the fear of his comrades, they weren't exactly Soap. He still had to eat human food and had human problems like cold hands.
Still felt pain.
The bullet went straight through his chest and the blood from his wound splattered all over Soap's face.
Soap's blue eyes widened. He was finally afraid.
It tasted rather bitter.
Ghost collapsed into him and Soap cradled his body. His blood covered them both.
"MEDIC!"
Soap screamed his little head off. So loud and insistent.
Ghost wanted to dissolve. Wanted to sink back into the darkness and hide under Soap's bed again.
"never wanted to join the military."
"Why did you then?"
"wanted to stay close to you." Ghost admitted, panting. His mask felt tight around his face. "it wasn't just a job for me. hadn't been for a while."
"The military?"
"No. Johnny." Ghost leaned up and kissed him through the fabric.
He finally dissolved.
His consciousness floated somewhere. It felt like home. He could still smell the soap Mrs. MacTavish used on the sheets.
Soap dreamed of him. Ghost was rather violently dragged into it, spectating whatever Soap finally put together.
The fear and adrenaline was intoxicating. Finally rid him of the awful feeling of being hungry that had plagued him for so long.
Soap held his body. It looked much worse than it was. The entire world seemed tinged with Ghost's blood.
"Please. Please. Stay with me." Soap begged, rocking his body.
Ah.
Johnny wasn't afraid of Ghost. He was afraid for Ghost.
How endearing.
The bond between them, the hold, snapped. Ghost felt himself start to spiral away from Soap, his body wanting to spin back into smoke.
But he dug his heels in.
"No." Ghost mumbled. "Got this fucking far. Can't ditch now." He had spent the majority of his life with Soap and he was realizing now that he wanted to spent the rest of it with him too.
It continued to drag him and he struggled and thrashed until his eyes flickered open to see Soap staring at him.
"You're awake."
"Fucking hell, don't stare at me like that. And I'm supposed to be the monster here." Ghost sat up, fully healed.
Soap went to stop him before pausing. "Always forget you're not human. You okay?"
Ghost nodded.
"Do you remember what happened?"
He nodded again.
"All of it?" Soap batted those damn eyelashes at him.
"If you're asking for another kiss, you can just lean down."
This kiss didn't have fabric between them.

You were sound asleep the dawn of the night weighed on you as you were in your blissful slumber, your husbands arm wrapped securely around your waist the light snores leaving his lips.
Until you were both awaken by your son Kingsley crying his little eyes out holding his Teddy bear in one hand wiping his tear stained eyes with the other. "Mommy, daddy there's a monster in my room" he weeped as you and kai sat up. Kai was more alert and got out of bed walking over to his fourth year old.
"Hey buddy why don't you go lay with mommy and I'll go check if there are any monsters and fight them off yeah?" Kai said Kingsley just nodded his head before climbing up into bed beside you. Wrapping your arm around your son placing a loving yet comforting kiss on his head you hated when Kingsley had a nightmare and comes running in crying you wished you could take all his bad dreams away.
Kai went off into your sons bedroom doing checks from top to bottom even though he knew there was no such thing as monsters but he did it anyway to give your four year old piece of mind. Once kai knew nothing was there he came back into your shared bedroom seeing Kingsley was still indeed awake, "I checked everywhere buddy no monsters" kai said you couldn't help but smile at your husband how caring he was to his son, how overprotective he gets even when nothing can hurt him.
"Do you want to go and double check with daddy" you asked knowing Kingsley always makes his father double check his room with him, your son nodded his head crawling out of bed taking his dad's hand and into his own room. You followed closely behind your arms folded leaning against the door watching as your husband and son looked for monsters.
"No not in the closet" kai said looking again somewhere else, "not under the bed, Kingsley where did you see this monster" kai asked Kingsley who pointed at his chair that his oversized Teddy bear sat on making you and kai chuckle. "Oh my sweet baby it's only snuggles walter" you smiled at your son "he looked scary there" your son blushed now realising it was indeed his Teddy who was scaring him.
"Tell you what little man how about snuggles Walter sleeps with you and he'll make sure no one scares you" kai said grabbing the Teddy bear from the chair. "Now snuggles Walter I need you to look after Kingsley tonight can you do that for me" he asked the bear pretending that it was talking back to him nodding it's head.
"Snuggles Walter said he'll make sure no monsters are here even though you can't see it buddy but he'll be looking out for the monsters" kai said placing the large bear beside his son tucking them both in to bed.
"Okay daddy" Kingsley smiled with a tired yawn, "sorry for waking you and mommy up" he whispered kai let out a small smile, "Hey don't say sorry buddy because I promise you nothings gonna hurt you baby as long as I'm around I'll make sure of it" kai said placing a kiss on his sons head.
You went over sitting on the edge of the bed brushing your sons hair, "sweet dreams baby we're just right down the hall if you need us" you said placing a kiss on your sons temple "do you want your nightlight on?" You then asked Kingsley nodded you flickled the switch leaving the dim light on. "Good night mommy, night night daddy" Kingsley yawned. "Good night son I love you" kai said with a smile.
"Night night I love you" you yawned feeling more tired than before, "I love you too" you heard as you closed the door slightly and went off into your own room with your husband, "I hate when he has those nightmares or thinks there's monsters in his room" you said climbing back into bed. "Me too but at the same time it's fascinating how their imagination works" kai chuckled pulling you closer to him, "kai you were probably the same when you were his age" you giggled kai shrugged you turned around to face your husband.
"I probably was but that was a long time ago" kai chuckled tiredly as you traced your finger over his features. "What?" He asked you shook your head before speaking "I just love you so much" you sighed kai placed a kiss on your lips "I love you more" he yawned before you both drifted back to sleep.

Levi squeezed you as you sat on his lap and played with his hair. He smiled up at you and thought you were incredible. He'd met you after the war by hiring you to work as his only assistant at his tea shop. He fell hard and fast for you and you deeply loved and cared for him. You had the perfect love, wedding and married life. You brought in two wonderful children into the world.
Lilly was your first and was five years old and a bundle of joy. You now had a one-year-old son, Evan. You and Levi wanted more, but you were going to wait for Evan to grow up a bit more. You were happy living in a cute home by the sea and forest with a huge garden for the kids to play in and for Levi to watch birds.
Levi kissed you and hummed in happiness. "I love you."
"Love you too." You hugged Levi's head to your chest. "You're so wonderful."
Levi pressed his face into your chest making his voice muffled. "You're better."
"Mummyyyyyyy!" Little feet ran down the hall followed by sobs. "Daddyyyy!"
You slipped off Levi's lap and hurried to the stairs to see Lilly in a shirt of Levi's with her hair a mess, tears running down her cheeks and her cuddly bunny in hand. "Lilly?"
Lilly opened her arms to you as she sobbed. "Mummy!"
You scooped her up and hugged her. "Oh, baby, my sweet little flower."
Levi limped over to his precious daughter. "Little flower, what happened?"
Lilly struggled to talk because she was crying so much. She took in deep breaths and kept crying. You kissed her forehead all over as Levi held her hand and kissed the side of her head. You both waited for her to talk.
Lilly rubbed her eyes and sniffed. "Monster."
Levi frowned. "Monster?"
She nodded. "In my room."
Levi clenched and unclenched his jaw as he instantly assumed some man had gotten into his daughter's room. "Where?"
Lilly whined and hid against you. "Mm."
You rubbed her back and whispered. "Levi, I don't think it's a person."
Levi relaxed a bit. He grew up in a world where the monster was always a man or titan and he knew all titans were dead, so it would be a man. What he wasn't used to was a child's pure and wild imagination creating a big monster in a room due to the dark being scary. This was all knew to him and he needed you more than ever.
Levi gulped and nodded. "Monster, huh?"
You looked down at your daughter. "Lilly? Why don't you show me and Daddy where the monster is and then we'll scare it away." You nuzzled your nose against hers making her giggle. "We're super scary. Can you do that?"
Lilly nodded. "Okay."
Levi smiled. "You're very brave."
Lilly blushed a bit. "Brave like daddy?"
"Of course! You're very brave like me."
Lilly giggled. "Good!"
You carried her upstairs to her room and stood in the doorway. "Okay, point for daddy where the monster is."
She pointed to her bed and the closet. "There and there."
Levi nodded. "Right, right, I see." He opened the closet and looked inside before looking under the bed. "Mm, yes I see the monsters. It does look like the naughty things are there. I believe you little flower."
Her eyes widened. "You do?"
"Of course." He walked over and took her from you and gave her a big hug. "They're horrible mean things to scare a cute, kind and smart girl like you."
Lilly played with her daddy's shirt. "They're mean."
"They are! So, you know what we'll do?"
"What?"
He smiled at her. "We're going to scare the monsters away. We're the Ackermans and we can be a lot scarier." He bounced her making her giggle. "Give me your best scary face."
Lilly laughed. "Daddyyy."
He smiled at her. "Come on. Give me your biggest scary roar!"
Lilly put her arms out. "ROAR!"
Levi gasped. "Wow! So scary!"
"Really?!"
"Yes! Right mummy?"
You giggled as both looked at you. "Best roar I have ever seen and heard."
Lilly giggled. "Thank you, mummy."
Levi carried Lilly to her closet. "Ready? The three of us will roar together. Go!"
You all roared at the closet over and over again making Lilly laugh hard. Levi kicked with his bad leg a few times into the closet to defeat the last of the monsters. You all ran to the bed and got on the floor to scare the monsters there until it was all done.
You put Lilly in her bed and handed her the bunny she loved so much. "Lie down, little flower."
Lilly snuggled up in bed. "Thank you, mummy and daddy."
"You feeling okay?"
Lilly nodded. "Yes. I'm not scared anymore. I'll just scare the monsters away."
"Good girl."
Levi grunted and said your name. "Help? My knee has locked up."
You stood up and helped pull Levi to sit on the bed. "There you go."
He smiled and massaged her knee. "Thank you." He turned to his daughter and sighed. "You've got this, okay? If you ever need help, we'll always come running."
Lilly nodded. "Yes."
"When your brother is older, he'll help too and I know you'll help him."
Lilly smiled. "Yes."
Levi leaned over and kissed her cheek. "Good girl. Proud of you."
You kissed her cheek as well. "He love you so much."
Levi nodded. "We love you a lot."
Lilly grinned. "Love you too."
Levi held her hand. "Want us to stay until you fall asleep?"
She snuggled up and hugged her bunny. "I'm okay."
You tucked her in and got up. "All right." You pulled Levi to his feet and helped him to the door as he limped. "Sleep well, little flower."
She yawned and waved. "Night mummy, night daddy. Love you."
Levi blew her a kiss. "Night, love you."
You closed her door a bit. "Love you too." You turned the light off and walked with Levi to Evan's room. "Gonna check on Evan."
Levi opened the door for you to see Evan happily passed out in bed softly snoring. "Out like a light."
You giggled. "Bless him."
Levi closed the door and put his arm around you. "Did I do well?"
"Fantastic. You were incredible." You took the lead down the stairs and held Levi's hand as he walked down. "You were perfect with her."
"I'm glad."
You led Levi to his seat again. "Is your knee okay?"
Levi dropped into his chair and sighed. "It hurts a bit, but I did use it too much. Slowly but surely. I mean, I wouldn't have been able to do that five years ago." He grabbed your wrist and pulled you onto his lap. "You've made me stronger."
You cuddled up to your husband. "You're so handsome and cute."
He chuckled. "I try."
"I'm proud of you, Levi. You're so strong and filled with love." You cupped his face and kissed him. "I love you."
"I love you too." He massaged your thigh. "So, umm...do you want to try for another baby?"
You hummed a laugh. "Yes, but not tonight cause you hurt your knee."
Levi's eyes sparkled in delight. "Of course. Tomorrow?"
You giggled. "Yes."

Rara's Nightmare (Part of We're a Family Universe)(Steddie X You)
Tumblr media
From this AU
A/N: Idk where this came from in my brain but I couldn't stop thinking about it. Enjoy the FLUFF!
Warnings: While is from a Steddie AU this is mostly Steve taking care of Ro when she has a nightmare. No angst or smut, just good wholesome fluff.
Word Count: 1043
Aurora woke up with a gasp as she looked around her dark room terrified of how the things she knew now seemed threatening as they lurked in the shadows. Grabbing the little stuffed dragon her daddy bought her, she braved the hallway as she excited her room.
The house was quiet except for the little creaks of the wood as the wind hit the side of her home. Taking a deep breath, she headed for the stairs passing Dylan’s room along the way. She could hear the low rumbles of his music through the crack at the bottom of the door. Aurora contemplated knocking and waking him up but sometimes her brother could be grumpy if you woke him too early.
Plus, she knew the monsters that were probably hiding in her room were too big for Dylan to fight on his own. No…she needed to be brave and get to her parents. Her little chocolate-colored eyes quickly darted around as she descended the stairs clinging to her dragon for protection.
As she entered the living room, however, she suddenly felt lost. In the dark everything seemed to be different. Had the couch always been there or did it move on its own? Wasn’t James’s room just around the corner? She saw the kitchen but then why couldn’t she find her mommy and daddy’s door?
Backing up slowly, her feet abruptly slipped out from under her as she fell on her butt and started to cry. They sound of a door opening startled her as she curled up into a ball and cried harder.
“Ro? Honey, what happened?”, Steve cooed in a concerned voice still husky from sleep. “What are you doing out of bed?”
Aurora promptly wrapped her arms tightly around her father’s neck knowing that if any of the monsters decided to attack she was safe with him. Pressing her head gently into the nook of his neck, he lifted her into his arms, and rubbed her back comfortingly as he got to his feet.
“What happened?”, you ask quietly, the sound of your voice calming her more.
“I think she just had a nightmare. Go back to bed, baby, I got this. Sweetheart, do you want to say good night to mommy?”
Even though he turned her to face you, she didn’t lift her head as she clung to him tighter. The little toddler sighed when she felt your hand pet her curls before kissing the top of her head.
“Good night, Ro. I love you.”
“I love you to, mommy.”, she garbled making you and Steve lightly laugh.
The long trek it took her only took her father a few moments as he took a seat on her bed and placed her under the covers. She watched with wide eyes as he leaned towards her nightstand and turned on the nightlight they had gotten her for her birthday. Aurora couldn’t help but smile at her ceiling as brightly colored stars painted the makeshift sky.
“What happened, honey? Did you have a nightmare?” Hugging her dragon tighter, the tears begin to fall again as she nods. “Hey, hey now. Everything’s ok, baby. Do you want to tell me what it was about?”
Adamantly, she shakes her head as she sinks lower into her blanket.
“Ok, that’s ok.” Steve watches as her eyes flick to her closet and more fear washes over her. “You know, daddy’s not the only master in this house. I mean, he may be the only dungeon master but I’m a force master. I became a Jedi when I was a little bit older than you.”
“Really?”
“Oh yeah.”, he grins as he bends down and grabs the toy light saber she keeps by her bed. “May I borrow yours? Mine is downstairs.”
“Daaaad!”, she giggles. “That’s not a real light saber.”
Steve playfully scoffs as he rises to his feet and spins the sword around in his hands like they do in the movies.
“That right there is dark side thinking, Rara. This saber here is as real as you want it to be.” As he reaches out to touch the end with his fingers, he lightheartedly winces as he pulls it back pretending he got burned. “Ow. Hot.”
As her demeanor softens, he smiles as he takes a fighting stance and begins looking around her room.
“Alright, fair warning to any dark side users in this room! Come out now or you will be killed if I find you.” They both waited in silence to no one and his joking wide eyes met hers making her laugh. Slowly heading for her closet, he pushes open the door and moves some of her clothes around to find it empty. “No one there.”
Taking careful steps around her room, he shines the toy light in dark areas and her grin grows as she realizes everything he passes is things she knows like her stuffed animals on her furniture that seemed to tower over her before.
“Dada.”, Aurora calls and when he turns to look at her, she points under her bed.
Placing his finger over his mouth in a shooshing motion, he moves towards the edge of her mattress before dropping on his heels seeming to startle anything that may be hiding.
“Damn, nothing. I think if anything was in here, they know I’m your dad and I’m not going to let anything bad happen to you.”
She beams up at him as he turns off the light saber and places it on her bedside table next to the night light as he shifts his weight onto his knees to lean over her bed.
“You’re safe, sweetheart. Now can you go back to sleep?”
Lazily she nods her head as he eyes lids begin to droop.
“Dada? Can…Can you stay with me till I fall asleep again?”
Smiling, he lightly pushes on her back signaling for her to give him some room as he crawls in behind her and brings the blanket up to her chin before kissing the back of her head.
Pushing her body into his chest, she reaches for his hand and grips two of his fingers in her tiny palm as she begins to drift off again.
“Good night, dada.”
“Good night, Rara.”

hi! welcome back! may i request some dad!kakashi hcs?
omg just thinking about dad!kakashi makes my heart melt, i originally thought about him having a daughter but i think you can read it as it was a boy just aswell, and i imagine them being like 3-4yo. anyway, hope you like it! let me know what you think!!!
dad!kakashi who everyday wakes up early to make them breakfast, most times just simple animals shape pancakes that he knows it will make them smile.
dad!kakashi who cant never say no to them, of course he didn't want them to be spoiled but he couldn't deny anything they asked. playing with dolls? yes. dressing up as characters? sure. tea party? of course. playing in the mud? absolutely. drawing on the wall? make sure to hide it from you.
dad!kakashi who didn't think he was going to be a good father when you told him you we're pregnant, but couldn't imagine his life without your children now.
dad!kakashi who always took you two on walks by the creek, one hand holding yours and the other one on his pocket, watching carefully your children walk in front of you two, always getting distracted by their surroundings. most times his ninken were there too, and while you and him sat on the grass and enjoyed each other presence, they would play with your kid and you two would just watch it in pure bliss.
dad!kakashi who always carries them when they're asleep, holding them carefully and slowly walking back home, not wanting to wake them up after consuming so much energy after playing all day.
dad!kakashi who reads for them every night before they go to sleep, always making sure to change his voice in certain characters lines.
dad!kakashi who every night tells them 'i love you' before giving them a forehead kiss and making sure their puppy plush were there for them to hold at night.
dad!kakashi who sometimes does not wakes up early, but gets woken up in his favourite way instead, with your kid happy voice jumping on the bed and a caressing kiss on the cheek from you.
dad!kakashi who don't rush his kid way to the academy, if they want to be a ninja just like their parents its okay for him, he would teach they everything they wanted to know, but at the same time making sure they're happy and enjoying their childhood just like any other kid, no pressure at all.
dad!kakashi who loves just sitting on the couch, you three together plus the dogs, under the blanket and watching a movie peacefully on rainy days.
dad!kakashi who on the same day when the lights goes out because of the rain, tells histories to your kid, most of them about him and you, and how after so many years loving you he finally made you reciprocate his feelings, which you always corrected him saying you always did but he was too 'silly' to notice.
dad!kakashi who on the nights they would wake him up, afraid about the monster under the bed or hiding on their closet, he were always there to calm them down and to make sure there weren't any monsters, even threatening the said monsters if they dared to scare his kid again.
dad!kakashi who most of his days he liked to spend his time holding you tight, watching the little piece of love you two created together, not believing how he got so lucky.
_________
"but dad what if they come back?" he had been asked, watching the concerned look on his kid face.
"if they come back me and mom will be here to protect you pup, and they would have to deal with a very angry me for scaring you again, they would be in trouble for sure" he said stroking their hair.
"what are you going to do with them? are they going to be grounded?"
"worst, pup", he looked in their eyes with mischievous smile on his face "i'm gonna make them eat all the broccoli we have on the fridge".
"oh my god" they said afraid for the monsters.

If you're okay with it, can you do a fic or headcanons of Wolfie (Nightwolf) with a toddler regressor who's prone to nightmares and doesn't want to take naps for that reason because "the monsters will get them"? 🔮
I tried to hard to write this as a fic but no matter what I did, words didn't wanna word :(
Tumblr media

CG Fujin w/ Toddler Nightwolf Nightmare Hcs
🐺 Wolfie over here doesn't get nightmares incredibly often
☁️ They were really prominent after the events of MK11
🐺 ^ They did eventually calm down and nowadays he rarely gets them
☁️ But we're going to focus on when they were really bad :(
🐺 The really bad nightmares are actually flashbacks to his time as a revenant, when he was forced to work for Quan Chi
☁️ Big Nightwolf knows how to cope with these nightmares, speaking with his Momma and having some tea, calming himself down
🐺 But little Nightwolf? He's just a child, a scared, terrified child
☁️ Nightwolf actually adores naps most days, so it began to confuse Fujin why Nightwolf was so animate about not even taking one
🐺 He wanted to play with his stuffies more, or have a longer bath, or watch more tv!!
☁️ The TV one highly confused Nightwolf, since he usually moped until Fujin offered his favorite show
🐺 The only problem is that, little Nightwolf, especially toddler or wolf Nightwolf, needs a nap
☁️ Getting incredibly fussy and irritated without one
🐺 Fujin never forced Nightwolf to take a nap, just encouraging him and asking if he'd like to take one
☁️ He also never forced Nightwolf to tell him what was up, since Nightwolf always frowned and seemed upset by the question
🐺 He didn't want toFujin to see him as weak, he could handle the nightmares when he was big, why couldn't he when he was small?
☁️ Fujin was also incredibly patient with Nightwolf when he was fussy and irritated, making sure he watched his tone when Nightwolf raised his voice at dinner because Fujin got the wrong plate
🐺 He knew Nightwolf was suffering with nightmares while he was big, but didn't know that little Nightwolf dealt with them too
☁️ He didn't find out until he finally persuaded a slightly sleepy Nightwolf to take a comfy nap
🐺 He'd tuck him in, read him 3 whole stories, have whatever stuffies he wanted!! They could also whatever yummy food he wanted for dinner too
☁️ It was very convincing, but it was also incredibly clear how anxious Nightwolf was
🐺 Looking around the room, eyes darting from corner to corner, trying to find something that wasn't really there
☁️ He forced Fujin to check under the bed and closet, hiding under his blankie for protection so nothing would come out and snatch him back to the Netherrealm
🐺 Fujin knows young mortals can have quite the imagination, and knew that sometimes they fabricated things being there when they weren't
☁️ He didn't make it super far before Nightwolf practically screamed his name
🐺 Getting tangled up in his blanket as he frantically tried getting to Fujin because he wanted to hide in his Dada’s arms
☁️ Fujin gently rocked him, having Nightwolf hide on his lap as he sat on the bed
🐺 That's where Nightwolf spilt everything
☁️ About the bad bad memories that flooded his mind at night, and how scary it was waking up
🐺 How he was scared the monsters from the Netherrealm would come out of the closet or under the bed and snatch him away when he was sleeping
☁️ Fujin firmly held and comforted his baby, letting him sob and cry into his chest
🐺 He explained to Nightwolf that that couldn't happen, no one was going to come snatch him and all the bad things are gone now
☁️ That his scary dreams are very scary, yes, but they cant hurt him now, and he was so brave for telling Fujin about this
🐺 They decided to skip naptime and cuddle instead, watching a softer movie as they ate one of Nightwolf’s favorite meals
☁️ For a good while, naptime was still iffy
🐺 Very specific requirements would have to be meet if Nightwolf wanted to take a nap
☁️ Fujin had to take a nap with him, a chair had to be put up against the closet, and they put up a dreamcatcher (which got cleansed weekly)
🐺 Overtime naptime did go back to normal, and Nightwolf recovered better from his old memories
☁️ They kept the dreamcatcher though, it makes little Nightwolf feel safer, just incase
<3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
I actually don't think enough about how Nightwolf suffered and would have really scary memories about his time as a reverent. It screwed up Jax pretty badly.

hey hey! I sent in the IronFam ask earlier and I do have a prompt which hopefully you like! soo the fam have gone on vacation and on the first night Morgan is a lil scared and wants her big brothers and dad to check under the bed, the closet for any potential monsters lurking. to make her feel better they pretend to find the tickle monster. maybe with lee!Peter and lee!Morgan with either ler!Tony or ler!harley. whatever u would like
Tickle Monster Vacay
Summary: See prompt above 😁
(Okay, this was so precious ❤️ I love it!! ❤️ Thank you so much Anon😭 I hope you enjoy! ❤️)
"It's okay Morgan. Nothing's going to hurt you."
Morgan burrowed into her father's chest. "But daddy, what if there's monsters here?"
"Hey Morgan, it's okay." Peter sat on the bed. "All of the monsters here are the cute cuddly ones. Like the one's from Monster's Inc."
Morgan turned to Peter. "But what if he tries to eat me?"
"You're too big Morgan." Harley poked her leg. "They'd get as far as your leg and be full."
The littlest's eyes widened and she immediately dove under Tony's arm.
Peter rolled his eyes and elbowed Harley in the ribs. "Way to go Harley."
"Sorry for trying to help."
"Okay, neither of you are really helping." Tony did his best to soothe his frightened daughter. "So unless you come up with something that does help, keep your mouths shut."
Harley rolled his eyes. "Sorry."
"Come on Harley, he's really trying here."
The older boy sighed. "I know, but we're supposed to be on vacation Pete. I've got to have a little fun."
Peter tugged the blanket back. "Morgan, is there something we could do to help?"
The littlest looked up at Peter. "Can you check please?"
"Check where sweetheart?" Tony asked.
"The places monsters like to hide."
"Like under the bed?"
Morgan nodded. "And in the closet."
Tony nodded. "We can do that."
Meanwhile, Harley moved toward the closet. "We can take a look, but they won't be there."
Peter hit his shoulder. "Because there's none there."
"Ow!" Harley shoved him back.
"Alright you two, knock it off," Tony followed Harley's direction. "Let's help Morgan feel safe so we can all go to bed."
"Daddy don't leave!"
"I'm not leaving sweetie. I'm just checking the closet."
Morgan clung to her stuffie. "But what if the monster comes out?"
"He'll have to go through all of us," Harley flexed his muscles.
Morgan hid behind her stuffy. "We're gonna die!"
Peter stroked her hair. "Don't worry Morgan, your dad and I will be here."
Harley growled and crossed his arms.
Tony nudged his arm and gave him a wink the other two couldn't see. He then turned to the duo still at the bed, "Peter, check under the bed please."
The younger boy nodded. "Right."
Morgan watched her surrogate brother intently as he crouched down. While the two were distracted, Tony tugged Harley closer to the closet. He whispered, "Follow my lead, go for Peter."
Harley raised one eyebrow, but gave a brief nod.
In response, the older mentor stepped to the closet and put his ear to the door. Tony then knocked on the door, "Hello, any monsters in there?"
Harley smirked. "Careful Tony, don't want to stir any of them up."
"Harley," Peter hissed.
The older boy held up his hands. Instead of responding, he turned back to Tony.
"You know, Harley's right. Certain monsters are attracted to sound."
"What!"
Peter soothed the littlest. "Shhh, your dad's just being silly."
"No I'm not, I know one monster who feasts on sounds."
Then Tony cracked open the closet.
Morgan dove under the covers and yanked them over her head.
While Peter tried to soothe her, Harley let out a low growl that made her squeak.
"Oh no, I think there's a special monster here," Tony hissed.
"An extra especially monster."
"Come on you two, knock it off!" Peter snapped.
With a subtle slip into his pocket, Tony clicked the button that turned off all the lights.
Morgan flew into Peter's side. "Petey!"
The young boy squeezed her tight. "Come on Tony, don't join him!"
Neither Tony nor Harley answered. Instead Harley let out another low growl as Tony let the closet door slowly fall open.
While Morgan sunk even farther down, Peter slid forward so he was in front of her.
Meanwhile, Harley and Tony slunk through the darkness to opposite sides of the bed. Harley was starting to pick up on what Tony was doing and he was game to pick on the spider kid.
"Tony, Harley? Whatever you're doing, stop it! You're scaring Morgan!"
Harley leaned close to Peter's ear and whispered, "Boo."
When Peter's arm shot out in his direction, the older boy snagged it then yanked him toward him.
"Hey!"
Meanwhile, Morgan let out a squeal as she was scooped into her father's arms. "Petey!"
Peter squirmed to get out of Harley's bear hug. "What are you two doing!"
Tony chuckled. "We've come to feast."
"Feast on what!"
"Your giggles."
Both Peter and Morgan let out a surprised squeal as the other two dug in. Tony immediately spidered across Morgan's tummy while Harley attacked Peter's sides.
"Nohoho! Harlehey!"
"Harley's not here right now." The older boy moved up to his ribs. "I'm the tickle monster!"
"NOOHO! NOHOT THEHERE!"
"Aww, does the spider kid have ticklish ribs?"
"SHUT UHUP! YOU KNOW IHITS SPIDERMAHAN!"
"Man is a stretch."
While Harley attacked Peter, Tony spidered up Morgan's sides and into her armpits. "Gootchie gootchie goo."
"Daddyhy noho!"
"Sorry sweetie, your daddy's not here right now. Just the tickle monster."
Morgan let out a squeal. "Ihi knohow ihits yohou daddyhy!"
Tony cooed. "Am I that ohobvihous?"
Morgan nodded and wrapped him in a hug. "Lohove you dahaddy."
The older mentee returned the hug. "I love you too honey. I'm sorry we scared you."
"It's okay, you wehere beheing sillyhy."
"I promise you Morgan, the only monster you'll see on vacation is the tickle monster." Tony added in some side tickles for good measure. "Ahand he will neeeever hurt you."
Morgan giggled adorably and tried to grab her dad's hand. However, the moment was cut short by a loud squeal.
When Tony looked over, he saw Harley had Peter by the armpits and was slowly making him to lower to the floor as he wiggled his fingers around.
Morgan pointed. "Daddy, we have to save Petey!"
"Not to worry princess." Tony set Morgan down and charged around the bed. "Unhand him you fiend!"
"What? AhEE!"
Once beside them, Tony squeezed Harley's hips. This made the older boy drop Peter and collapse into a pile of laughter on to the bed.
Morgan crawled over and peered down at her surrogate brother. "Are you okay Petey?"
The young teen caught his breath, then growled. "Harley, you're dehead!"
Peter scrambled on to the bed and immediately attacked the older boy's armpits.
"AHH! TOHONY YOHOU TRAITOHOR!"
"That's the joy of being senior tickle monster." The older mentor spidered up Harley's sides. "You can switch sides whenever you please."
"SQUEE! ATLEAST CAHALL OHOF YOU'RE ATTAHACK SPIDEHER!"
Peter paused his tickles. "Now I'm ahan attahack spideher? Harley, can yohou nohot just sahay Spidermahan?"
The older boy growled before pulling Peter down on top of him. "Ohof course nohot, that wohould behe to easy."
"Hey!" Peter immediately tried to grab the knuckles rubbing the top of his head. "Knock ihit off!"
Tony chuckled. "Yohou guhuys are crazy. Rihight Morgan?"
When Tony looked around, there was no sign of his daughter.
"Morgan?"
A giggle drew all of their attention to the door. Morgan stood in the open bedroom doorway, a grin on her face and her stuffie in her arm. "Come and catch me monstehers!"
Then she took off down the hall.
Tony sprang up and ran after her. "Get back here you sneaky little sneak!"
Meanwhile, Peter wriggled out of Harley's hold. "Morgan's going to need back up."
"You take up, I'll take down?"
Peter paused at the doorway. "No I thought I'd let you climb across the ceiling for a change."
Harley rolled his eyes as he poked Peter's side. "Get up there."
With a grin, Peter scurried up the wall. Harley grinned back before heading down the hall. "Better watch out! We're coming for you Tony!"
After that night, Morgan never feared monsters again . . . Well, all except for one monster.

Hi there I hope you are having a good day! I have a request if you don't mind. It's specific. So you don't have to write it if you don't want to but: Female Hero x Male Villain. So Hero has a child, a few months old or a year but very young. With juggling hero-work and raising a child she is very tired. So one day she comes home and collapses on her bed, until she realizes her child is strangely quiet and her babysitter has come to talk to her. So Hero goes into their child's bedroom and finds Villain standing in the room cradling her child. She demands to know what he's doing and he asks who's the child's father. Hero is very confused and asks him why he needs to know. Villain explains that he has been watching her since the day he figured out she was pregnant and the Father of her child had never once been there for her. He demands to know who the Father is and why he is not taking responsibility for this beautiful child and the lovely Mother of his child. Hero stares at him silently, before just bluntly says: "You're the Father." Meanwhile The Babysitter is sitting in the closet tied up listening to all this drama.
Hello! Anon, this is super interesting! Definitely something I can write. Requests and asks are always open! Unless it's a squick, generally I can write it. So please, ask away! And you can also ask continuations!
Please, enjoy!
Part 2 Part 3 Part 4
Nanny heard the front door to Base open and shut. They rose to meet their boss, but Hero waved them off as she stumbled to her bedroom. Nanny could see the dark circles under her eyes. Hero needed to rest. They'd let their boss get a few hours sleep before waking her for dinner and time with the baby.
Nanny heard Hero's baby fuss in the next room and so they headed to check on their charge.
Hero collapsed on the bed without showering or even removing her clothes. She'd do that later. Right now all she wanted to do was sleep. She flicked on the baby monitor on the night stand. She liked to fall asleep to the sound of her baby. The soft little snuffles, coos, and even Nanny's soothing voice.
But no sound came. Hero's heart started racing and she was instantly awake, exhaustion long forgotten. She jumped out of bed and ran to the nursery. She froze in the doorway as her worst nightmare was a reality.
Villain stood over her baby's crib, her infant tucked safely in his arms. His face was soft, warm even. Something Hero had never seen before.
"What are you doing here?" Hero demanded, cursing herself internally for not bringing a weapon.
"Who's the father?" Villain asked, ignoring Hero's question. He rocked the infant gently in his arms.
"Does it matter?" Hero's voice was flat, cautious. She didn't want Villain to hurt her baby.
"When I first noticed you were pregnant, I wondered who it could be. You have no love life to speak of," he smirked. "We're too busy with work, you and I, for things like that. But no man appeared. Not when your belly grew big and round. Not when you took yourself to the hospital. Not even when you came home. What kind of man could abandon a child? Such a beautiful, lovely baby."
Villain looked up at Hero. "You can't surely plan to do this alone." He continued to rock the baby. The baby fell asleep in the crook of his arms. Hero relaxed a little as she saw her baby was safe.
"I'm not alone. I have Nanny."
Villain frowned. "I saw that. They weren't very useful in protecting your baby."
"What did you do to Nanny?" Hero feared the worst.
"Closet, taken care of."
"Did you kill Nanny?"
Villain flinched in horror. "I know you hate me, but I'm not a monster, Hero. Besides having a nanny isn't two parents. It's not the same. A child should have both parents in their life. Where is the father? I could persuade him to come back. What kind of man could do that?"
Hero sighed. "You," she muttered.
Villain's eyebrows shot up. "Pardon?"
"You are the father, Villain."
If Nanny could have gasped around the gag in their mouth as they knelt in the darkened closet, arms tied behind their back, they would have. Hero had never disclosed the father of her child. And for the father to be Villain, well, that was something else.

Nightmares
Tumblr media
"Hey hey hey, it's alright. I'm right here".
I wake up from a horrible nightmare,
all sweaty and shaking, tears in my eyes.
Austin is holding me close to his chest while caressing my back.
I can't hold my tears back and they stream down my face. Thanks for that, now I have "Fix you" in my head.
"Wanna talk about it?"
"Yes please".
It was about a mom who had daughters, four or five. They lived in my parent's home but thank God it wasn't my mom. They didn't have another parent.
She treated them terribly: tortured them and made their lives a living hell.
At some point they finally got enough courage to fight back and two oldest kids beated her up so badly they thought she was dead. Somehow their mother was lying on the kitchen floor unconsciously for so long that she became a skeleton but she woke up.
Two oldest daughters went and crushed all their mother's hand bones.
The oldest daughter told others to run and they did, they managed to escape and they went to a bus safely but then the oldest sister came back with two of her friends.
"You go now, I'll come with my friends later".
Then some weird voice in my head told me that she never left, she stayed with her friends.
Did their mom die? Was she like half dead? A zombie? Did the oldest become a monster mom too? I don't know.
All I know is that this was the most horrible dream I've ever had and I've had MANY nightmares. Thank God Austin was with me.
"Wow, that's pretty fucked up"
"Yeah"
"Can you go back to sleep, baby?"
"Not yet. I have to check closets and under the beds".
"No you don't, everything's fine. There's no one here, we're absolutely fine".
"I need to, I can't sleep otherwise"
"Okay, I'll come with you"
I turn on every light in our house and we check every single closet, under every bed and every corner together: there's no one.
We come back to bed and he continues holding me like he did when I woke up.
It's hard for me to fall back to sleep and I ask Austin to stay up until I sleep again.
"Of course, that was my plan"
It's already a bit bright outside and it gives me almost as much safety as my man's arms. Almost.

Continuing to search, Jennifer and Jonathan keep calling out Nancy's name. They hear her voice loud and clear, but can't see her. Finally, Jonathan sees the tree with the odd substance as he removes his bag and creeps towards it to where he's on his knees. Jennifer does the same thing before jumping back when a hand reaches out. Jonathan grabs Nancy's hand, pulling her towards him as Jennifer tries her best to help, yanking harder. She was afraid of hurting the brunette. She keeps pulling until Nancy falls on top of the male as he hugs her and stares as the trunk closes up. Jennifer sighs in relief as she pats Nancy’s back, hugging her also as she looks at Jennifer with fear in her eyes.
——
When they get Nancy back to her house, Jennifer decides to ask if she could stay over to comfort her. She says that it is okay for her to leave as Jennifer does that, exiting the room before saying goodbye.
Jennifer walks down the stairs and out the front door and proceeds to walk down the empty, dark street. She continues when she hears the bush nearby rattle. Jennifer was afraid it was one of those monsters coming to feed off her body or something. Stalking up to the bush, Jennifer feels herself getting scared. When she reaches out to see what it is, a bunny hops out, eating the grass then watches her. The bunny hops out of sight as Jennifer sighs in relief, making her anxiety decrease. Walking, Jennifer slides her hands in her pockets to keep them warm as she manages to find the right street.
"Come on, Jennifer. Get a hold of yourself. Jesus." She curses under her breath.
Jennifer watches as a crimson colored vehicle speeds by, not realizing that it was Steve's BMW. She continues down the dimly lit sidewalk, managing to make it back to her house, pinning herself against the bricks. She approaches her bedroom window, sighing in relief. Sliding the glass open, Jennifer pulls herself through. She stands there, hoping that she didn't make too much noise before closing the window behind her. Jennifer slid her jacket off then her shirt, tossing them in the hamper. she then proceeds takes off the long sleeve shirt she wore under the t-shirt as well as her pants. She puts the last bit of dirty clothes in the hamper before grabbing her sleep clothes, putting them on before sliding in the bed as her eyelids get heavier each second before falling asleep.
——
The next day, Jennifer gets woken up by her mother calling out to her. She rushes out of her bedroom and asks if everything is okay. When Claudia nods, she holds the phone out to Jennifer as she sighs in relief. Taking the phone from her mom, she answers.
"Hello?"
"Hey, we're gonna go back to that place to capture it. Wanna join?"
"Uh, yeah. Sure. Where do you wanna meet?"
"The hunting store around noon-ish, got it?"
"Yeah, see you then Jonathan."
Hanging the phone on the wall, Jennifer looks at the time and sees that it is ten till twelve, so she does what needs to be ready. She proceeds to take a shower, and get the dirt and whatever off her body from the night before, making sure she doesn't smell bad. Walking out in just a towel, Jennifer makes way towards the closet to look for clothes, managing to find an outfit that was freshly washed. Throwing the clothes on, Jennifer finishes getting ready before throwing her damp hair in a ponytail. Not a usual hairstyle for Jennifer, but she did it because she didn't want to deal with styling it.
Jennifer exits her bedroom and enters the kitchen, seeing that her dad is gone, same as her mom and brother. She grabs a granola bar and decides to leave a note in case someone in the house searches for her. Finally, getting out, Jennifer checks her watch, seeing it is almost time she's supposed to meet up with Nancy and Jonathan, so she quickly walks there since the car is gone in the carport. Arriving, Jennifer meets up with Nancy and see Jonathan as they stand leaning against a car.
"Why are we going back out there? Nancy almost got stuck in that... that... dimension."
"Yes, I know, but there are answers in there."
They walk in the hunting store and search for things to use in the hunt for the being they came in contact with the day before. After, Nancy sets the stuff on the counter as Jonathan asks for ammo. Jennifer just stood there and smiled at the cashier as he gives the three of them a look.
"What's this for?" The cashier asks.
"Monster hunting," Nancy tells him.
"Okay,"
They bring the objects outside and put it in the back of the vehicle.
"You know, last week... I was shopping for a top Steve would like. It took me and Barb all weekend. It seemed like life or death, you know? And... and now--"
"You and Jennifer are shopping for bear traps with Jonathan Byers."
"Yeah," The brunettes say in unison.
"What's the weirdest part?"
"Me or the bear trap?"
"You. It's definitely you."
A car horn honks as someone shouts Nancy's name.
"Hey, Nancy." A male calls, catching Jennifer including Jonathan's attention. "Can't wait to see your movie."
The car speeds away.
"What the hell was that?"
"I don't know."
Nancy turns around and walks past her as Jonathan asks where she's going. Ignoring them, she sprints down the sidewalk as Jennifer and Jonathan are hot on Nancy’s trail. She crosses the street and towards the movie theater and sees the sign with title credits for new movies, and sees 'All the right moves,' filled in with red spray paint. 'Starring Nancy The SLUT Wheeler.’
"I can't believe it," A man complains.
"These kids!" A woman exclaims.
"Jesus," Jonathan curses as Nancy continues to stare, sighing.
Looking around, Jennifer watches as a couple stares at Nancy in disgust until she hears a spray can hissing and someone laughing. She follows after it, leading to an alleyway. Nancy stops at the entrance of alleyway as Jennifer and Jonathan stay behind. The brunette marches toward the group, seeing Steve, Tommy, Carol and Nicole
"Aw, hey there, princess."
"Uh-oh! she looks upset."
Nancy walks up to Steve before stopping in her tracks. She moves her hand against his cheek as the three friends of Steve's gasp in shock.
"Damn."
"What is wrong with you?”
"What's wrong with me? What's wrong with you?”
Steve scoffs.
"What are you talking about?"
"I wouldn't lie if I were you. You don't wanna be known as the lying slut now, do you?"
Jennifer and Jonathan stalk closer.
"Speak of the devil," Tommy says when he sees Jonathan.
"I saw you. You completely ignored me when I called your name. What are you doing with this loser anyway." Steve says. "What? You let him in your life to... study?"
"Or for another pervy photo session?"
"We were just-- I--"
"You were just what? Finish that sentence." He becomes more serious and a little intimidating. "Finish the sentence."
Nancy breathes heavily as she tries to muster up something to say, so Steve'll leave her alone. Steve scoffs.
"Go to hell, Nancy."
"Come on, Nancy, let's just leave." Jonathan suggests.
"You know what, Byers? I'm actually kinda impressed." Steve begins. "I always took you for a queer, but I guess you're a little screw-up like your father."
Steve continues picking on Jonathan as Jennifer brings Nancy away, holding her close. They see his eyes glowing with anger.
"Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah, that house is full of screw-ups." He bullies, pushing him further away. "You know, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. A bunch of screw ups in your family.”
"Jonathan, leave it." Nancy says, sternly.
Jonathan stops, ignoring Nancy's words standing his ground.
"I mean, your mom... I'm not even surprised what happened to your brother."
"Steve, Shut it!" Jennifer yells.
"I'm sorry I have to be the one to tell you, but the Byers, their family, it's a disgrace to the entire--" Steve begins before getting cut off by Jonathan's fist colliding with his face, making him fall into a wall next to them.
He grunts as Jonathan heaves. The adrenaline courses through everyone's veins watching this moment unfold in front of their eyes. Steve lunges forward and tackles Jonathan to the hood of his car, pinning him down. The males struggle at first, but Steve then gets thrown to the ground. Jonathan groans as they call out Steve's name, trying to get him to stop. He gets on top and wrestles.
"Stop! Steve! Knock it off, you guys!"
"Get off of him, seriously!" Carol shouts.
"Kick his ass man!"
Jonathan gains the upper hand, decking Steve in the face causing him to fall to the ground. As Nancy and Jennifer shout for him to stop, Jonathan ignores everyone else as he straddles Steve and begins punching him repeatedly. Sirens wail as officers arrive on the scene.
"Cops!" Tommy shouts.
"Guys--"
"Jonathan, get off him!"
Jonathan punches him once more. He gets in another punch or two as Steve's friends begin to escape.
"He's had enough!"
As one officer tries to get a hold of Jonathan, he throws him against the vehicle beside them as the deputy shouts. The other manages to get Jonathan off of Steve as Tommy helps him off the ground and scurries. Jonathan gets slammed against the hood of the vehicle as handcuffs are placed on his wrists. Jennifer and Nancy stand side-by-side. She lets go of her hand, breathing heavily as Steve and Tommy catch up with the two other girls before one of the cops chases after them. Jennifer stands concerned, folding her arms against her chest before pinching the bridge of her nose. She was afraid of what will happen next, hoping her mom wont get contacted.
——
At the police station, Jennifer watches Nancy retrieve ice from the receptionist as she is seated beside Jonathan. She listens to the question. "Why'd you do that?"
"I don't... I don't know, Jennifer. I'm... Just tired of all the shit I have to deal with on a daily basis. Most of the time, it's Steve."
"I get that, but you didn't have to assault him. And, before you say anything, I'm not taking sides. I believe you both are responsible for your actions."
"I guess you're right."
Jennifer glances at Nancy once again, overhearing her speak to the receptionist.
"Do you think we'll be out of here soon?"
"You and her? Yes. Him, no. He assaulted a police officer."
Walking towards Jonathan, Nancy holds a towel with ice inside before putting it up to his swollen and injured hand. Jennifer rises, so the other female can sit beside him.
"Jennifer, you can take off if you want. I'll stay with Jonathan."
"If that's okay with you, Jonathan."
He doesn't say anything as Jennifer takes that to step away, leaving the room as one of the officers takes her in for questioning.
After they interrogate Jennifer, she is able to leave fairly quickly as she just walks wherever her feet take her. Stumbling upon a path to the woods, she follows it as Jennifer hears the sound of leaves crunching continuously. She follows it. Seeing Dustin and Mike, Jennifer sighs in relief only to find them running from to other males. One holds a knife as the other follows behind. She goes after them out of instinct without realizing it. Coming up to the quarry, Jennifer watches the bullies rein the two kids in as the raven haired kid picks up a rock, Dustin picks up a stick.
"Hey, dickheads!" You shout, all four kids looking your way. "What the hell are you two doing?"
The two school aged boys ignore Jennifer as she watches Wheeler throw a rock, missing the bully completely.
"Nice throw, numbnuts."
Dustin yells as he swings the stick in his hand, but the kid dodges before grabbing him and holding Dustin against him, knife drawn against his cheek.
"Let him go!" Jennifer shouts, walking closer.
"Stay back, or I'll cut him!" The kid shouts.
"What do you want?" Mike asks.
"I wanna know how you did it?"
"How I did what?"
Dustin whimpers as Jennifer carefully steps closer inch by inch.
"I know you did something to me. Some nerdy science shit to make me do that."
"You mean piss your pants?"
Jennifer snickers but immediately covers it with a cough.
"Our friend has super powers, and she squeezed your tiny bladder with her mind."
"Shut up!" He shouts. "I think I should save Toothless here a trip to the dentist. Help him lose the rest of his baby teeth."
"Let him go. Let him go!"
Jennifer stays quiet, unsure of what she should do in the moment, grabbing onto a rock  that is a little heavier, but stays back.
"I'll let him go, sure. But first...it's your turn."
"My turn for what?"
"Wet yourself."
Mike, including Jennifer, were confused at the kid's words. The other bully begins to stand down.
"What?"
"Jump... or Toothless here gets an early trip to the dentist."
Jennifer watch as Mike turns his heel, stepping closer to the edge as Dustin shouts. Jennifer ushers after him but it's too late, he jumps off the cliff. The three boys including her rush toward the edge of the rocks, looking down.
"Holy shit," Dustin curses.
Mike is floating like something is holding him from falling to the rocky terrain beneath. Getting lifted up, he is safely placed on the ground as everyone watches in astonishment. Mike glances to the side and sees Eleven. Blood trickles from her nose as the three boys look over as well. Dustin smiles as well as Jennifer. Eleven uses her powers to push one of the bullies back as she breaks the arm of the other who was holding a pocket knife. He screams out in pain, holding his arm.
"Go,"
The boys run away in fear as Dustin begins shouting at them.
"She'll kill you. You hear me? She'll kill you, you sons of bitches!"
"Dustin."
Jennifer watches as Eleven begins to look very pale before falling down. Her body is weak as she rushes to her side as she frantically apologizes to Mike. He soon brings her into a hug as Dustin follows. Kneeling, Jennifer watch the happy moment before Dustin offers her in. She joins in on the hug as well, wanting to keep the kids safe.
Watching as they walk away, Jennifer turns the other direction to go back to the station when she sees the Chief's vehicle rush through with Joyce sitting in the passenger seat. She knew that Jonathan would soon be in a lot of trouble.

Conversation
There are Monsters in the Dark
[Bruce waking up to Jason looming over him]
Bruce, bleary eyed: Jason? Why- why are you watching me sleep?
Jason: I need your help.
Bruce, groaning: What did you do?
Jason: Excuse you, I did nothing but be my perfect angel self.
Bruce, deadpan: Ah yes, angel and Jason. Two words that are basically synonymous. Well then, my angel child, I'm sure this can wait till tomorrow after I have had at least 3 hours of sleep.
Jason: It actually can't, because there is currently a monster residing under my bed.
Bruce:
Bruce, blinking slowly: Jason, you are 22. There isn't a monster under your bed.
Jason: Oh, silly me, let me just inform the MONSTER under MY BED that there is apparently an age limit on that sort of behavior.
Bruce: You can't be serious, Jay.
Jason: Deadly. Much like the monster under my bed. And as my dad it is your job to get rid of it.
Bruce: *Getting up and angrily putting his robe on* Alfred help you, Jason, if you woke me up at 4 am to kill a spider.
Jason: Firstly, it's not a spider, Bruce. And secondly, there is no need to invoke the name of our lord and savior, Alfred Pennyworth.
Bruce: *rolling his eyes*
[Bruce getting on his knees to check under the bed]
Bruce: See, there's no- F*CK! *Bruce slamming his head against the bed-frame upon seeing Tim dressed as the Joker under the bed*
Jason, laughing hysterically: Oh my god, I should have filmed that.
Bruce, wide-eyed looking at Jason: What is wrong with you?
Jason: So, so many things. But this right here, was genius.
Bruce: Tim! Get out from under the bed, now!
Tim: *Crawling out from under the bed* Sorry, Bruce. But that was pretty funny.
Bruce: No! It wasn't! That is the most horrifying sh*t you two have ever pulled!
Tim: What about that time in-
Bruce: And yes. I am including the incident in Shanghai.
*Tim and Jason grinning and high-fiving*
Bruce: No! No high-fiving! This is not a high-fiving moment! I could have seriously injured, Tim.
Tim, snorting: When? After or before you screamed and hit your head against the bed?
Bruce: *Unimpressed bat-glare*
Bruce: I'm returning you both.
Jason: Sorry, there's a no return policy on broken orphans.
Tim: *snorting and high-fiving Jason again*
Bruce: Stop high-fiving! This is serious!
Jason: Yeah, yeah, Old Man. Save the lecture. We're on a time crunch, we still have to dress Timbers up as Ra's and hide him in the Demon Brats closet.
Bruce:
Bruce: Why are you two like this?
Jason, shrugging: Blame it on the childhood trauma.
[Tim and Jason walking out of the room]
Bruce: Alcohol. I need Alcohol. Lots and lots of alcohol.

chapter eight - “hovel, sweet hovel”
delicate masterlist
word count: 2k
synopsis: bucky and y/n arrive the shelter and take a look at what it has to offer.
pairings: bucky barnes x fem!reader
[A/N]: what would you like to see happen next? let me know! (p.s. this is what i pictured the shelter/hovel to look like)
Tumblr media
"I think this is it," Bucky said, looking forward at the structure in front of them.
"That's the 'shelter?'" Y/N huffed, hopelessly annoyed.
They had been walking and jogging on and off for forty-five minutes straight. Her feet killed.
"We're... gonna die."
"We are not gonna die, Y/N."
"Look at it! That is a hovel!"
"Well, inside's better than outside," Bucky retorted. "At least no one will see us if we're in there. It looks abandoned, they'll assume it actually is.”
She sighed and followed behind Bucky into the shelter. It was a one story stone structure that looked so old and weathered. It... looked like a shed. An old ass stone shed. She briefly wondered if Wakanda had a storm season because she was almost certain this thing wouldn't withstand it.
The door let out an anticipated squeak, and she was just as disappointed to see the inside as she was the outside. Bucky put the bags down and rubbed the back of his neck.
"Yeah... this... isn't great..."
It was just as small as it seemed. And empty. Mostly. There were a few withered shelves with dusty pots and bowls, and an even more withered attempt at a table. There was what looked like a furnace in one corner with old, rotted wood in it. The wooden floor creaked under their steps.
The whole place felt like a ghost: desolate, ancient, and lonely. Except for one peculiar thing...
"Bucky?" she beckoned.
"Hm?"
(Y/N) hadn't noticed it when she first entered, but in the middle of the table sat a small, shiny, black panther figurine. It posed on all fours, looking ferociously up at her. It looked so out of place in contrast of the eternal layer of dust on everything else.
"What is this?" she asked reaching for the one thing that didn't match.
When her hand wrapped around it, energy surged into her skin. It felt almost... alive.
"(Y/N) what-" Bucky was cut off by a sound that startled them both.
In the corner across from the furnace, a section of the floor starting moving. Wood on wood on stone was not a good sound. Nonetheless, in mere seconds, there was an opening, and if (Y/N) leaned forward, she could see stairs!
Both of them remained still, feet planted on the creaky floor. They immediately looked at each other.
"What did you do?"
"I'm... not sure. I think I opened it."
(Y/N) smirked.
"What?" Bucky asked, confusion clearly evident in his tone.
"I should've known," (Y/N) shook her head. "Shuri wouldn't have led us here unless there was something more."
She held the panther figurine as she walked towards the opening.
"Wait," he grabbed her arm. "We don't know that Shuri knew that was here. What if it's a trap?"
"A trap from who? I don't think anyone knows we're here except Shuri."
"I don't know. J-Just let me go first."
"Alright. After you, oh wise one," she acquiesced, voice sarcastic but endearing all the same.
Bucky tried to suppress a chuckle. "Smartass. You're the wise one."
She tried to go down the stairs, letting him go first, but apparently that wasn't enough.
"Wait, just let me go look around and I'll holler when it's all good."
"Holler? Who says holler?"
"Me. Wait here."
"Fine," she made a show of pointedly plopping down on the top step, still and waiting as he requested.
It only took about ten seconds.
"Woah..." his voice came from far away.
"What is it?!" (Y/N) leaned forward.
"You were right! Come down, you gotta see this!"
She wasted no time... and standing beside Bucky, her jaw dropped.
"Holy..."
Beneath the ground was a significantly larger, way more modernized, and highly advanced survival shelter. All equipped with smaller versions of a table, chairs, and cabinets, along with a compact freezer and miniature stove, a chest, a closet, and two sets of bunk beds. Everything was clean and looked in optimal condition. There was even a rug.
"Shuri definitely didn’t leave you with nothing," Bucky commented, still taking it all in.
"-us with nothing," she corrected, retreating back up to the shed to get the bags.
-
Later in the day, (Y/N) got a handle on the panther key and how to use it to open and close the entryway to the bunker. Once she figured it out, she kept it closed, ensuring their concealment and maximizing their safety.
Bucky had found his way into the closet, listing off the contents to (Y/N) who sat on the floor, back up against one of the bunk bed legs. She was exhausted. Her body had been assaulted by adrenaline and strenuous mortal-danger-physical-activity. Bucky seemed to be fine, though. Curse that super soldier serum. His energy was always so high.
"...oh, and here's the bedding stuff. I don't know what this is, though."
(Y/N) lethargically leaned her head over to get a good view of the closet.
She chuckled. "That's a space heater...Oh! And next to it - that's a portable AC. Makes sense. I doubt they could get electric or plumbing out here."
And her head rolled back to center, eyes closing, body exhausted.
Bucky seemed to notice. "Hey, if you're tired, I can make the beds...or at least yours if you wanna sleep now."
(Y/N) stretched her legs straight out in front of her. "No, that's okay."
She wasn't about to force her one armed friend to make a bed for her. That's just rude. Especially after he carried those bags. She felt bad; she wished she had done more.
"Nah, I don't mind. It's not like I got anything else to do," he insisted, bringing the bedding over.
(Y/N) stood, body internally complaining in aching protest. She didn't really have the energy to expertly persuade him.
"Buck, it's fine." Her voice was faint.
He didn't even stop to hesitate, seemingly determined on the task. She thought it better to just give up and let him do his thing since he was so set on it. However, the sheet was fitted and there were pillow cases, not really one-arm friendly assets. He was struggling... very clearly. (Y/N) felt even worse.
He started moving quicker, frustration jerking his arm in quick, irritated bursts as he was trying to get the sheet to stay. There was still no success.
She stepped forward gently. "Bucky..."
"Damn it!" he hissed, slamming his hand on the bed frame before forcefully standing up. His hand went to his forehead, rubbing his eyes in disappointment.
(Y/N) was a statue. She had never seen him mad before; she had no idea what to do. Don't get her wrong, she wasn't scared, she just wasn't sure what to say.
"Can't fuckin' do anything," he muttered under his breath.
She finally moved forward. "Hey, forget the bedding, it doesn't matter-"
"Yes it does," he turned. "We're hiding from a collapsed regime and I can't even make a damn bed. Plus you've done so much for me, I just wanted to help with something. I just wanted to be able to do something."
Oh. Suddenly, his anger was gone. It was replaced with a miserable helplessness. It made her chest tight; she needed to fix this.
"Buck, you don't owe me anything. I'm here because I wanted to help, not because I was expecting anything in return. And I don't know what you've been paying attention to, but I watched you carry the majority of those - heavy - bags the entire way here while simultaneously figuring out the way to the shelter while my brain was momentarily smooth. You were the voice of reason in that chaos we just escaped from, and it's a damn good thing you were so calm because I don't know if I could have handled the panic of the both of us."
"You could've," he murmured. "And I wasn't calm, I'm just used to this. I was trained for situations like this."
No, she wasn't going to lose to deflection.
"Regardless, you were a huge help. Seriously."
He still didn't look convinced.
"In fact, I feel more safe here with you than I would with Shuri and the Queen. You're like a super soldier body guard."
A look washed over his face that (Y/N) couldn't quite place. He looked at her quizzically, like he was trying to figure something out.
"You... feel safer with me?"
"That's what I said, yes."
"You're not like... worried about..."
"The Winter Soldier? No."
He sighed. "How can you be so sure? You have no idea if or when I might... you know."
"We are literally the only people here, and I don't plan on saying the trigger words. So unless you plan on saying them, I don't really think we have anything to worry about. And, even if you did 'you know,' you could definitely get away with it and no one would find the body."
He turned bright red. "What?!"
"I'm kidding! Sorry. But Bucky, you've been doing so well with me and Shuri, and honestly the Hydra programming might not even be there anymore."
"But we don't know for sure!"
"Bucky..." she pleaded, turning her head slightly as to say what is this about?
"I can't trust my own mind," he sighed looking at the floor. "I just don't wanna do anything bad. It's just - weird that you don't seem to be worried at all."
"Why is that?"
"Everyone sees me as a monster."
The room was dead silent. He wasn't looking at her, but if (Y/N) looked at him any harder, she was sure she'd burn a hole through his head. How could anyone see this man as a monster? Logically, she understood what other people saw. But personally, she couldn’t find it in her to perceive him like that. It just didn’t work. All she could find was gentleness, compassion, and sincerity.
"I can't see you as something you're not," she said, whisper soft. "I don't care if you hands are 'scarred from murder' or however you said it a few sessions ago. I trust them entirely."
He finally looked up at her, his face filled with something she couldn't quite place. It looked a bit like disbelief and then it changed into relief and then something else entirely. A slow smile crept up on his lips.
"...hand."
"What?"
"My hand. Singular. Not hands."
A deep, deep smile - to match the one on Bucky - grew on her face just before the pair started cracking up ridiculously. Perhaps this was an odd way of releasing the tension, fear, frustration, and exhaustion of the day. Nevertheless, laughter was cathartic. It was so cathartic that eventually (Y/N) could hardly catch her breath and Bucky's stomach hurt. This went on for several minutes.
In time, they both calmed down. She didn't remember when exactly it happened, but they were both sitting on the floor now. They sat in between the two bunk beds, facing one another, each back leaning against a respective bedpost.
The atmosphere was different now, but not in a bad way. It felt like 2 a.m. at a sleepover, when the conversations get drowsily deep, with slow voices and honest confessions. It was heavy eyelids and low inhibitions.
A fresh wave of exhaustion washed over her. She let her head fall slack against the bedpost, resting.
"Bucky, what were sleepovers like in the forties?" she asked softly, eyes closing ever so delicately.
"Well," he started, getting into a story of his past with Steve and the couch cushions.
And that's how she fell asleep. Sitting on the floor, leaning against a bunk bed, and listening to his voice fade out into the background of her consciousness.
If only she knew how she would wake up: laying comfortably on one of the beds, with one blanket on top of her and another below her because he couldn't get the sheet to cooperate. With the pillowcase carefully draped atop the pillow instead of enveloping it because that's what one hand would allow. With the bed next to her being slept in with no blanket because he used his as the replacement for the sheet he couldn’t get to cooperate.

The Zodiac Gems
Synopsis: Mashup between Steven Universe and SCM. All you wanted to do was watch Steven Universe with your favorite gods. You didn't ask to turn into the Zodiac version of the Crystal Gems and defend the Earth from Dark Gems. That's crazy.
✨Masterlist✨
Gender-neutral goldfish!
A/N: Another mashup by yours truly? You bet! I mean, have you considered how similar Steven and MC are? Steven is a half-human giving him gem powers, and MC has stars in their eyes, giving them powers useful to the gods! It all started with a crazy idea of mine. I really wanted to see Leon and Zyglavis fused together as a giant woman. “All I wanna do is get stepped on by you, a giant woman, a giant woman! All I wanna be is to come up to the knee of a giant woman~” That’s probably my favorite TikTok song.
--Word Count: 6521–
"Guys! Hey, guys! I just binge-watched this really cool TV show that I want to show you! I brought some cool gems for you! I want to do a fusion! Guys?" I paused, looking around the living room at the bustling Zodiac gods. It didn't look like their usual party–there was no alcohol. Plus, there were no smiles on their faces. Something serious looked like it was going down.
Ichthys noticed me, and a big smile appeared on his otherwise bored face. "(Name)'s here! Hey!"
"Ichthys, pay attention," Zyglavis chastised him, drawing his attention back to the conversation they were having. "This is very important. You need to know the part you're going to play. You can't be distracted." His intimidating gaze then turned to me, and he spoke in a softer tone, "I apologize. We're busy at the moment."
They obviously didn't have time to talk. But Huedhaut was all by himself, and he looked like he was leaving. Quick to catch him, I jogged to his side, asking curiously, "What's everyone doing, Hue?"
He paused in his stride and took in my appearance before relaxing slightly. "There's a problem on Earth that needs immediate addressing. Fortunately, this is a problem that doesn't require you to risk your life." Ruffling my hair affectionately, he offered a smile. "You should stay safe in the mansion until it's taken care of. This will require all of us to be out."
I watched as he left the room. Did that mean all of the other gods were leaving soon too?
"Hey, goldfish," Leon abruptly turned my attention to him as he called me out in the silence of the room. "We're going take care of-”
"Can I go-"
"No," He interrupted me with the wave of his hand, irritated that I interrupted him to bother asking a question I already knew the answer to. "Don't ask. Don't worry about it. It's those dark gods again. We're going to put a ward over the mansion. Don't leave under any circumstances. Do you understand?"
"Well, yeah, but-"
"Good." Leon ruffled my hair the same as Huedhaut as he walked past me, the other gods leaving to join.
Dui hesitated behind everyone else as he saw my dispirited expression. He comforted me, "We'll be back soon to hear about your really cool TV show, okay? You can even set up the TV in the living room until we get back."
I hummed before replying, "Okay... Good luck!" I waved as they left me alone in the mansion, sadly dropping my gems onto the sofa. I tugged on my hair, deep in thought. I was alone in the mansion... That meant I had the whole place to myself until they got back!
Immediately, I bolted to Partheno's room, eager to get into his closet. There, I threw together a fantastic cosplay where I was not a regular Crystal Gem–But I was a Zodiac Gem that went by the title: Fate! I may have been a half-human, but I still fought corrupted gems!
Back in the living room, I pulled sheets from multiple beds, spreading them out across chairs and stacking the chairs on top of each other to make a giant gem monster. Of course, the gems I used for the monster were also from Partheno's closet as I spread my other gems about the room acting in place of my zodiacs. "Oh! Hang on! I need a weapon from my gem! Um... What kind of weapon would the gem of Fate have? Well... Steven has a shield–but no. Partheno can create shields with his powers. Maybe I’ll just stick with a sword; that seems simple enough. Meet your fate at the edge of my blade, gem-monster!" Of course, the handle of a broom had to substitute for my sword since the gods didn't usually leave weapons lying around.
Though, fighting a gem monster made of chairs wasn't as simple as I thought it would be. Standing on a sofa for the leverage of the high ground, I only ended up falling backward over its back, giving myself a nosebleed by faceplanting the floor.
I wasn't sure how I accomplished such a thing, but I freaked out after finding blood all over the shirt I borrowed from Partheno. At a time like this, Zygalvis would be lecturing me about why we don't climb on top of furniture.
"Ah... How am I going to get this blood out?"
"Wow, (Name), you really knocked yourself out there!" My head shot up as Ichthys looked down at me with an amused grin. "You should clean that up before Zig sees!"
"(NAME)!" I flinched as Karno exclaimed, "How did you get hurt?! You're covered in blood."
I could barely comprehend all the questions as he attacked me with a napkin. My nose had stopped bleeding, and it wasn't as bad as he was making it sound, but he was still wiping the blood from my chin like a worried mother. Ichthys snickered, "I guess Karno got to you before Zig could."
"It's not funny, Ichthys," Karno uncharacteristically snapped, "(Name) could have gotten seriously hurt. They're still half-human."
"Huh... Wait a second..." My eyes widened as I peered closer into Karno's collar. Right in the center of his chest was a shiny maroon gem. "You have a gem!" My eyes shot to Ichthys, and I noticed the teal gem that was sticking obviously from his chest as well. "You both have gems."
"Oh no," Karno muttered with furrowed eyebrows as he lightly touched my head, looking for any bumps. "How hard did you hit your head?" He tiled his head, biting his lip in concern. "Leo, I don't think they can come on this mission. They have some sort of concussion."
Leon scoffed as he peered over to me. "If a little fall is enough to knock them out, then maybe they don't need to be a Zodiac Gem. Humans are fragile as it is."
Tauxolouve's eyes widened at Leon's suggestion. "Are you saying we're kicking them off the team? This was supposed to be their first mission."
"I- I'm fine!" I glanced down; the necklace that was around my neck was gone. Instead, the gem I had was in my belly button–just like in the show! Excited to be like the Crystal Gems, I jumped up, waving off Karno's concerned hands. "I'm alright! I promise it was just a little fall! I'm okay!"
Leon snickered as he looked away from my bold announcement. "You're bleeding."
"Huh?!" I barely had time to catch the blood that was already dripping from my nose.
Karno quickly shoved another napkin into my face, stopping up the blood. "This is a terrible idea. You're staying home."
"Noooooooooo!" I cried, gazing pleadingly at Karno. "Don't leave me home alone! I need to hone my skill!"
Karno didn't look like he was about to agree, but Tauxolouve added for me, "It's just a recovery mission. There won't be any fighting."
Karno was stuck grumbling to himself when Zyglavis walked into the room and spoke firmly, "I'm taking the lead on this mission. We didn't know that there were many more corrupted gems out there. We'll be split thin this time. (Name) will be accompanied by Dui and Partheno to retrieve our lost seal."
Leon immediately sat up with a displeased sneer. "Who decided this? Lou, you're going with (Name) and the trouble makers."
Tauxolouve wasn't expecting to get involved like that, but he nodded regardless. "I won't let anything bad happen to our little pebble."
I grinned widely at the support I was getting. "If anything bad happens, we can just fuse!"
Karno furrowed his eyebrows with a sigh. He knew fusing wasn't an ability I had. "Keep an eye on them."
***
"So much for no fighting..."
Dui, Tauxolouve, and Partheno stood between me and the two gems before us. They weren't normal gems, and even I could tell that much. I tugged on Dui's sleeve and asked quietly, "Who are these guys?"
Dui glanced at me and gave me a reassuring smile. "Servants of the Dark King–Crow and Servillah. But don't worry, they're not that powerful without their King behind them. This will be easy!"
"And how about you!" Crow taunted with a wicked grin, "You're not as powerful as you think without your precious leader, are you? We destroyed that seal to draw her out. Where is she?!"
Partheno glanced at me before looking back at Tauxolouve in confusion. "They're looking for (Name)..."
Tauxolouve also spared me a glance. "Then we're just going to have to stop them from getting what they want. Poof these two and bubble them!"
The fighting was intense, something they told me I wasn't going to get involved in just yet. But these weren't the usual corrupted gems. These two were dark gems that knew what they were doing. I panicked as Dui was thrown off of his feet in front of me by a giant boulder. "Dui!" I flinched as my gem began to glow, and a sword extended from it. Their attention was on me now, but even I was surprised by what happened. My desire to protect Dui triggered my powers. I glared at the dark gems; my sword clutched in my hand in an untrained manner. "Stay away from Dui!"
The dark gems glanced at each other before nodding. Servillah commented lightly, "This is the fate gem, the one our King wants."
Tauxolouve shoved me behind him, facing the dark gems aggressively. "Return to your King. Touch them, and I can't guarantee you'll leave in one piece."
Servillah chuckled at how serious Tauxolouve sounded. But they weren't paying any attention to the other gems. Their attention was solely on me. "Do you hear that, Crow? It seems this is the fate gem we're looking for. Let's take care of this."
Before they could approach me, Partheno and Tauxolouve were already on top of them. My only option to help was getting Dui back to his feet. But he hadn't moved since the boulder pinned him. "Dui?" I dropped the sword as I ran to his side, trying to push away the large rock. "Hey, you're okay, right? C'mon. I'm trying to help you out." He tried to speak, but I couldn't understand a word of what he was saying over the sound of fighting. My feet slid across the ground at the effort it was taking to push the rock off of Dui, but I froze in panic at what I saw. Dui still couldn't get up like he wanted, and I tried to keep him still as my fingers deftly traced his cracked gem. "Dui... your gem is damaged." Unsure of what to do, I shouted to the other gems, "Dui's gem cracked!"
Both Tauxolouve and Partheno split their attention from the dark gems to me. Obviously, this was a huge problem. But the dark shards of glass that Crow was previously fighting with formed into a sword. I saw it coming, Partheno saw it coming too, but we couldn't help. It was all Partheno could do to shout, "Lou, behind you!"
"LOU!" It all happened too fast. The shards went right through Tauxolouve, and he froze in shock. Partheno quickly put up a shield between us and the dark gems, but it was too late. Thankfully it was enough to keep them back, though it angered them.
Tauxolouve had his eyes set on me as he weakly tried to speak, "(Name)... I... I'm sorry. You shouldn't have seen this. I-" He didn't have a chance to finish talking before his body poofed out of existence, only leaving his purple-colored gem behind.
I quickly picked the sad-looking gem into my hands as Partheno pulled me with him, lifting Dui on his other arm. The only reason the dark gems stopped their attack was because of the pink shield that still surrounded us. I was holding Tauxolouve's gem tight in my hand as we warped back to the mansion and made our way back to the living room to regroup with everyone else.
Zyglavis was the first to take notice of us as he asked, "Where's the seal?"
Partheno huffed as he pulled Dui into the living room and revealed, "They destroyed everything before we got there."
The gods were on edge with the unexpected news. They thought things were supposed to be fine. Scorpio snapped, "What happened out there?!"
His question made tears rush forward once again as I recalled the dark blade slicing through Tauxolouve, barely missing his gem. But now, his gem was all that was left, and I hugged it close to me. "Lou died!"
"What did you just say?!" Leon was angry, but he was also confused. Gems didn't 'die'; they were shattered. But maybe he misunderstood.
Partheno quickly tried to rectify my panic while keeping Dui sitting down. "No, no. It's fine. Everyone's here and accounted for. Take a look."
Huedhaut caught on to the situation in no time as he knelt in front of me, taking my hands to look at the violet gem I held. He tried to give a soft smile as he explained, "(Name), we haven't explained how regeneration works yet. When a gem's form is fatally injured, we retreat into our gem. Tauxolouve is fine; you're holding him right now. He'll come back to us soon. Our lives are tied to our gems. As long as that is intact, then we can regenerate however many times as it takes."
The kind words that were supposed to make me feel better incidentally only ended up causing me more strife as I continued to cry. "Is Dui going to die?!"
"What?" His eyes widened, and their attention was suddenly on Dui, who wasn't in good shape. "His gem is cracked..."
Partheno nodded solemnly. It had been years since a gem was cracked like that. It was all because of those dark gems. Partheno growled in anger. Couldn't he have done something? He could have shielded us so we could escape. But no, our escape wasn't an accident. They didn't chase after us, after all. "They let us get away. They want Fate."
"Damn it..." Leon scowled, but it wasn't directed at me. "Fate hasn't been with us for years. What do they want her for?"
I rubbed Tauxolouve's gem gently under my fingers, hoping it might comfort him somehow. Sighing, I glanced at the older gems. "Fate was... me, wasn't she?" I lifted my shirt slightly to peer at my gem. "They want me?"
This time no one was willing to answer until Zyglavis spoke. "We won't allow that to happen. Stay here with Dui. There may be something we can retrieve that will help him. Keep him from moving. We don't want his gem to shatter."
Ichthys put a comforting hand on my shoulder, though he looked as upset as I felt. "I'll stay with you. Dui is my best friend too." Decided that Ichthys would stay with us, the others left on their hunt. I joined Ichthys and Dui on the sofa, wrapping Lou up in a blanket on my lap. It was sad in the silence until Ichthys tried to brighten things up, "The others left to find a fountain that belonged to Fate. The water will heal Dui's gem in no time; he's going to be just fine. Fate was really good at healing cracked gems. I heard stories that she could even heal shattered gems... But those were just stories."
"But will Dui be okay until then? His gem looks bad." I sniffled, holding Tauxolouve closer to me as I watched Dui. He wasn’t moving after the brief warning the other gods gave him. Whether he understood or not, he was lying still on the sofa.
Ichthys tried his best to smile as he encouraged, "No worries! Dui's going to be just fine! Come here. We're just going to wait for the others. It won't take long. I promise." Wrapping his arms around me and holding me close for comfort, he tried to convince himself, "Everything's going to be okay."
I shut my eyes, trying not to cry as I whispered to Ichthys how I was feeling, "I'm afraid. Those dark gems... they were powerful. They- They really hurt Lou and Dui."
"We'll take care of them. Lou will be back in no time with how hard you're hugging him." He was trying to make me feel better. It's not like it didn't work. I felt safe in his arms.
It was only later that we rushed to the door at the arrival of the others, only to receive unfortunate news from Karno. "The fountain was dried up, probably since Fate left us. There's... no way to fix Dui's gem."
Zyglavis sighed as Dui was a gem that followed him. "We... have no other choice. Dui cannot stay like this." He turned to walk back to the sofa.
"Wait... I- I don't understand." I tried to go past Ichthys and Karno to get to Dui, but Krioff held me back.
His eyes were solemn when I glanced back at him for some kind of explanation. He suggested, "Maybe you shouldn't see this."
"What are they doing?" He didn't answer me. Instead, Krioff and Aigonorus tried to usher me out of the room. "Stop, I- Dui..." Looking beyond their shoulders, I noticed that Zyglavis had extended his weapon. "Dui!" I panicked as my first thought was that they would shatter him to put him out of his misery.
Krioff and Aigo were unsure of what to do when I ducked under their arms to run to Dui. I bolted past the other gems, jumping right in front of Zyglavis' weapon. "(Name)!"
"Stop it!" I cried as tears finally poured down my cheeks. I held tightly onto Dui, not allowing the other gems to pry me from his side. "I don't want to lose Dui! Don't hurt him!"
Zyglavis was struck speechless as he wasn't sure what to say to me, but Huedhaut was quick to kneel beside me as he rubbed my back. "No one wants to lose Dui, but his gem is vulnerable like this. If we bubble his gem, then we won't lose him. We'll find a way to fix him."
"I don't want Dui to go away too!" I looked up at Huedhaut, but my eyes were too full of tears to see clearly. "Lou disappeared so easily! I don't want Dui to go! I don't want to keep losing you guys!"
"Are they... doing what I think they're doing?"
"Shh, don't say anything." Teorus nudged Ichthys into silence.
Karno offered me a small smile with a proud look in his eyes. "You're not going to lose us. You're doing a great job, (Name)."
I didn't understand what he was saying. Was he talking about my need to protect Dui and Tauxolouve? I would do that for any of them.
"I'm not going to leave you..." My eyes widened at the voice above me, and Dui's arms that were limp beside me reached up and wrapped around me. "Thank you."
I glanced down at Dui's gem, finding it entirely intact beneath my head. "Dui!"
My arms tightened around him, and he laughed a bit, rubbing my hair as he hugged me. "Hey, maybe you should save some of those tears. We might need them later."
I looked up in confusion, my eyes still watering. "My tears?"
Leon scoffed, but he was no less happy with the scene. "It seems our pebble is a Zodiac Gem after all."
"(Name)!" Ichthys shouted as he jumped on me. "You healed Dui's gem with your tears! You have Fate's healing powers!"
"That was... real?" I thought Ichthys might have been joking when he told me what Fate's powers were. But he was being completely honest with me. I couldn't tear my eyes off of Dui as I trapped him in another suffocating hug, burying my face in his neck. "They... They were going to poof you. You were going to go away, and I'd never see you again. I just needed you to be okay! I- I didn't want you to go away!"
"Well, you saved me. Thank you, (Name)." Dui's arms tightened around me.
The other gods were pleased that Dui wasn't in any danger of dying. Despite almost skewering me with his spear, Zyglavis was also pleased that the reaction he triggered in me was strong enough to heal Dui. It was something he hadn't seen in a long time.
I was given enough time to emotionally recover with Dui before they dragged us to a meeting, where I held Tauxolouve protectively in my hands. It was in the living room again, but the air was more serious this time.
Zyglavis recapped the situation, "The Dark King is attempting to return. Those two gems that you met are attempting to steal Fate from us. As we've just witnessed, Fate's powers are in (Name). Therefore, they are the key to the Dark King's resurrection, and our enemy is aware of that."
"But they thought Fate was dead before they found out about me," I pointed out with a frown. "It's not like we met before. Someone had to tell them that I was Fate."
Scorpio grumbled in annoyance, "It could have been any number of filthy humans that you associate yourself with. But it doesn't matter now. We have to keep you away from them."
Leon added heatedly, "We can't sit around waiting for them to come after (Name). We need to find where they're coming from and take this fight to them. Besides, there has to be more than just two of them somewhere."
Karno shrugged his shoulders and speculated, "Yes, however, there are so many corrupted gems that we've located. Corruption could explain their thin numbers. For all we know, they could try and use Fate's powers to heal corrupted gems and raise their army."
Huedhaut hummed in curiosity at the theory of healing corrupted gems. "It's interesting... But that's just assuming Fate's powers can do that. We've never had to cure corrupted gems before the war."
Karno nodded his head in agreement. "We don't have time to speculate on what their powers can do. We need to focus on protecting (Name) and finding those dark gems."
"I would be a perfect candidate for defending them," Partheno piped in. "The dark gems couldn't get through my shields, even with their weapons. I'll stay by their side until the dark gods are taken care of. I'll watch over (Name) and Lou."
Zyglavis nodded his head in understanding. "Then we'll leave their protection to you and Tauxolouve once he returns. The rest of us will be checking all known warp pads to search for these hidden dark gems. If they're on Earth, then we'll find them."
It wasn't all that long after the gods had left when the trouble began. Partheno had been taking good care of me, watching closely on Tauxolouve's condition as well. But when Partheno left to get a snack for me, I didn't realize how vulnerable I would be in our own home.
The dark gods appeared without warning, trying to steal Tauxolouve away from me. "Don't touch him!" I drew my sword swiftly, and I was the only line of defense between Lou and them. I was relieved when Partheno finally returned not a moment later. "Partheno, hurry! The dark gems are trying to steal Lou!"
The dark gods stood unfazed right in front of me, but Partheno acted like no one was in the living room. It made me wonder if Partheno even heard me. But maybe he was just more worried about protecting his vulnerable friend. After all, I was more capable of protecting myself than Tauxolouve was at the moment.
However, I was confused. Partheno took Tauxolouve in his hands, but there was no sign of his pink shield to protect us like last time. I was tempted to call his name to get his attention, but his sudden words made my blood run cold, "Put your sword down."
"P- Partheno...?" I wavered at his threat. He couldn't be serious. Was he trying to trick the dark gems that he was on their side or something? It wasn't a funny trick.
"I won't say it twice." If his threatening tone didn't give me a hint, then the dangerously sharp tool in his hands created by his shield powers most certainly did. He was threatening to shatter Tauxolouve with the very powers he was supposed to use to protect us! "This Sagittarius gem's life is in your hands."
"What are you... doing? Please, don't hurt Lou!" His eyes were like daggers, but his expression softened as my sword vanished with the faint glowing of my gem. It was the only thing I could do to save Tauxolouve. Partheno... betrayed us?
"Cooperate, and no one will be harmed," He warned, easing up his hold on Tauxolouve as his threatening tool vanished. "We just need those precious tears of yours. You two, did you bring it?"
"Yes, Lord Partheno. Of course." Lord Partheno? I was confused, but they took out Dark King's cracked gem, unbubbling him and placing him before me. I couldn't even start to comprehend this betrayal by Partheno. He wanted me to revive our enemy... helping these gems that wanted to use me.
Partheno's eyes were merciless as he commanded, "Get started, or do I need to give you a reason to cry?"
He was threatening Tauxolouve again, and my eyes did water, but the tears refused to fall on command. I was lost, confused, and my heart was aching at the thought that one of the gems I trusted would just give us up like that. "Partheno... Why? You were a Zodiac Gem. Why are you doing this to Lou?"
"I'm not a Zodiac Gem!" He snapped, making me fear for Tauxolouve’s safety. Partheno sneered at me, unconcerned with my fear. "I wasn't created like the other Zodiac Gems. Fate was kind and allowed me to join them while keeping my secret, but now... you're here, and I had to make sure you had her powers before I could use you. This is perfect."
"But why betray us?" My voice cracked as I was overcome with too much emotion to remain rational and calm about it. He was planning this from the very start. It wasn't an accident that Dui got hurt before Partheno jumped in with his shields to save us. "We were your friends. We loved you. You might not have been made conventionally like the other gems, but neither was I! I- I- Wait! Don't shatter him!"
I begged him to stop being rough with Lou, but he was just getting fed up with me. "I've had enough of your whining. Just cry already. If not, they have a few methods they'd like to try to force those healing tears out."
"No!" I covered up my face, trying to keep my building tears from falling. I couldn't succumb to their wishes. But my arms were grabbed by Crow and Servillah, who forced my head to hang painfully over the Dark King's gem. "Let go!"
"You just have to force our hand, Fate. It didn't have to come to this." Partheno's grip tightened dangerously on Lou's gem; just a slight tap with his tool left a fracture in Tauxolouve's gem.
He was prepared to add another tap to the cracked gem before I finally cried desperately, "No! Stop it! Give him back!" Struggling didn't help; they ensured my tears fell on the Dark King's gem.
The gem glowed for a moment, signaling that I had done what they needed me for, and I was no sooner tossed to the ground without a care. The other gems didn’t expect much from me, but I knew I let them down by allowing something like this to happen.
The air turned colder as the Dark King finally took his full form. His eyes were even more callous as he glowered down at me on the floor in front of him. His gaze alone was enough to send shivers down my spine. "Fate? What a pathetic form. It's suiting for how you took away my victory over this disgusting planet... I'll take away everything from you before I have fun with the gem who tried to strike me down."
They barely placed any attention on me as they left. The only one to regard me was Partheno as he returned Lou to me in a pink bubble, though I was sure it was only a temporary kindness. "You're cruel, Partheno..."
"I'm not here to be nice." His cold statement and piercing eyes made me draw back in fear, holding Tauxolouve tight before he abandoned us in the room.
Being left alone, I scratched at the bubble, trying to pop it so I could heal Tauxolouve. He couldn't come back if I didn't mend his gem, but it was my fault he was like that in the first place. I let my guard down because I was feeling safe. I should have known better. "Lou... I'm so sorry. I couldn't do anything. I'm a horrible Zodiac Gem. Leo's right; I'm just a stupid pebble. Partheno tricked us, and I- I brought back the Dark King."
"(Name)..." My head perked up, thinking it was Tauxolouve who was calling my name. But the voice called again, and I realized it was coming from elsewhere. "(Name), hey! I snuck into the mansion!" Ichthys suddenly appeared after transforming into some kind of animal to sneak in. "Any more of us, and we might've been caught. But they sent me to check on you and Lou after we ran into those dark gems outside. Oh no... Is he okay?" Ichthys leaned in closer, peering at Tauxolouve inside the bubble.
I shook my head in response. "Partheno was going to shatter him to make me cry. They made me bring back the Dark King. How are we going to win like this?"
Ichthys grinned and answered simply, "We're going to get Lou out of there, and then we're going to fuse!" My eyes widened as Ichthys popped the bubble with little effort. "Now, give him some of those tears so we can get our Sagittarius gem back." Ichthys affectionately wiped my cheeks of tears, passing his fingers over the cracks in the gem.
The gem instantly healed, but I didn't understand how Ichthys wanted to fuse with him. "But... How are you going to fuse? He's not back yet."
"If you fuse with a gem that hasn't formed, then it's a way of calling them out of their gem. Lou loves to take his time. But it's no problem if we rush him a bit. You did just heal him." I watched in awe as Ichthys started glowing, and they fused into a completely different person.
I stared up at this bigger, new gem, a little intimidated by the size of him. "um... Hi..."
They smiled down at me, though I could see the mischief glimmering in Ichthys' eyes. "The others are outside of the mansion. They were facing off with Partheno and those Dark Gems. We should go help them. You stay close by me, (Name). I'll protect you."
I nodded my head, following the fusion out of the mansion. Everyone was fighting; however, I noticed that some zodiacs were gone. The Dark King had already slain them, forcing them back into their gems to heal. I instantly realized his game, recalling what he said to me earlier. He was going to defeat them all and wait to shatter them in front of me.
But I didn't understand. Why wasn't anyone fusing like Ichthys and Tauxolouve? My eyes landed on Zyglavis and Leon. They were the two most powerful gems, and they weren't that far from each other. If I could just get them to fuse, we'd have a chance. "Zyglavis! Leon!" Without a second thought, I bolted toward them, abandoning my guardian.
"(Name), wait!" They wanted to protect me, but Ichthys and Tauxolouve couldn't follow me. They were forced to stop Crow and Servillah from getting to me instead.
Though Zygalvis and Leon weren't fused, they were fighting the Dark King exceptionally well together, being two of the few gems still standing. But I growled in frustration. Why weren't they fusing? We needed to win! They were the most annoyingly stubborn gods alive.
Upon seeing me, they were worried that I was running toward them like that, but they were in awe as I started to glow the same color as my gem, and I grabbed each of their arms. It was a shock when all three of us fused, but it seemed I was the one part of their fusion that allowed them to stay together.
"Wow! This is new!" My multiple eyes focused on the Dark King. "We have a goal to focus on. Let's finish this!" The Dark King was having enough trouble fending off Leon and Zyglavis as individual gems. As a fusion that included me and my powers, we were unstoppable. It felt amazing being a part of a fusion. It was like all of our skills just combined into one being, and suddenly I knew how to fight. We were going to destroy the Dark King today.
"That's enough of that! Keep up this act, and he'll be the first to go!"
Partheno's scream caught me off guard, and I forced us to pause and glance back at the threat. My eyes widened. Partheno and his two minions had Huedhaut in a precarious situation with his gem cracked. Only... a sword was digging into his gem, ready to finish him off at any second. "Hue... Wait, stay focused! The fusion will fall apart!"
My head ached for a moment, and our fusion split violently, unable to hold itself together. I was sent reeling backward as I reached toward Huedhaut, who was about to get shattered. "Hue!"
"(Name)!"
I heard someone call my name as I hit the ground. My head was hurting, and the scene around me was going dark. "W- Wait... No... Hue..." I desperately tried to reach for him, but I couldn't stay awake.
***
"(Naaaaaame)! Hey, wake up!" Ichthys called, hovering over my still body.
"Stop screaming at them." Dui pouted, trying to pull Ichthys away. "They hit their head really hard. Give them time to recover."
Teorus leaned over me in concern. "We let them rest. Shouldn't they wake up now?"
Karno sighed at how eager the young gods were for me to wake up. "They're human. Give them time to heal."
"Wah!" I jumped off of the sofa in a seeming panic. "W- Where's Hue?!" I noticed the broken-in-half, midnight blue gem beside the sofa, and my eyes watered as I clutched the halves carefully in my hands and cried, "The dark gems got him before I could get there! How long has he been gone? When is he coming back?! He can come back, right?!"
"Wow, you're really worried about Hue," Teorus joked lightly, not taking my tears too seriously, "You're going to give him a big head. Aren't you worried about the rest of us?"
"Nevermind that," Karno waved Teorus away. "We should be worried about your head. Honestly. How did you manage something like that all by yourself?"
"How many times did I tell you not to climb on the furniture?" Zyglavis' chastising voice carried from the other side of the living room, but it was apparent the other gods were there as well. "Honestly, I can't tell who poses more of a danger to you anymore."
"I wonder if it would be safer to bring them to fight the dark gods with us. They can't handle big chair beasts, but maybe dark gods are more on their level."
I shot up at the sarcastic voice that sounded through the living room. Karno then snapped at Huedhaut, "Is now the time to be making jokes about fighting dark gods, Huedhaut? (Name)'s in no shape to fight anyone, and they were worried about you a moment ago."
"Huh? I thought you- I thought you died!" I stared in confusion, my tears momentarily stalling. "If Hue's here, then who's this?!"
I stared at the midnight blue gem in my hands, and Karno was humming in worry again. "Oh, dear. (Name), you're holding a rock..."
"Huuuh?" I looked back up again in confusion. I glanced at the other gods noticing that they all seemed different as well.
Jumping on top of Karno, he was shocked at my sudden attack, but his cheeks burned as I ripped open his collar, feeling his chest. "(N- Name)-"
"Oh-ho, now this looks entertaining," Leon laughed as he took his usual seat.
But I winced as a sharp pain went through my head, and I sat down again, rubbing my forehead head. "You don't have gems... Ugh... What happened?"
"You don't remember?" Zyglavis sighed in exasperation. "When we came back, we found you sprawled on the floor. You fell from the sofa and hit your head. Have you finally learned your lesson about climbing on the furniture?" Zyglavis sat beside me to readjust the bandages on my head that I'd loosened.
"O- Ow!" I awkwardly nodded my head. "Y- Yeah... I just... I had a bad dream. Partheno was trying to shatter Hue so that I would unfuse with Leo and Zyg."
Partheno's eyes widened at hearing that he was the bad guy of my dream. "I'm sorry, what?"
Leon was equally surprised by what I said. "You were what with me and that kitchen scale?"
A bright idea came to mind, and I quickly asked, "Since I've been injured in action, trying to protect the mansion from an evil monster and all that, we should all watch a movie now, and I can tell you about my dream!"
Karno sighed, rubbing his forehead mumbling something about how I never seem to learn anything. "We'll only watch this with you because it's our fault you were left home alone and got hurt."
"And we love to spoil you," Ichthys added, leaning into my shoulder with a grin.
Partheno pouted, still hooked on what I previously said. "Hold on, why am I the bad guy?"
I shrugged my shoulders, picking out the TV series I wanted us to watch. "Maybe 'cause the pink gem in the show turned out to be one of the bad guys and... well... pink is your color?" Trying to cool things down, I exclaimed, "ALRIGHT! STEVEN UNIVERSE TIME!"
