i'm gonna break down the poster later but for now I wanna talk about the poem

As others have noticed the first letter of each line, read bottom to top, spell out "The Red Wedding" which is likely the episode title, so I'm not going to speculate too much on that.

Like we know at this point hardly anything is accidental in TDP especially when there's blatant opportunities to hide clues, so with that in mind, I want to look at stanza by stanza to the best of my ability.

Gnash your teeth, O Dragon Fierce! Night’s not far away

"Gnash" is an aggressive reference to teeth, which makes me think of "ivory draconic" for the Nova Blade, but also of scenes yet explained (the arc 1 intro of human warriors gathered on one side of the border, and Thunder's display of power). However, I think it's likely that what the poem is referring to is even farther back in history, given that "night" might refer to a time period (i.e. the stars leaving) happening soon.

In the sky that watchful eye Does weep and stare and pierce

"White as the star's heart it pierced" and we see eyes in reference to dragons' ire against Elarion. That said, this "watchful eye" could belong to a long ago Startouch elf (Aaravos, Laurelion, Leola?) who cared about what was happening, hence being 'watchful.' Pierce has a less peaceful connotation, but this section of the poem definitely reads as "in the past to me" (I say, preparing to eat my words in the future)

Dance away, O Golden Queen! Eternal fiery flame While shadows jeer into your ear Don’t forge a blade from shame

This, meanwhile, feels like a pretty straightforward reference to Janai in present day. She is both queen and the Golden Knight of Lux Aurea. Dancing is a part of Sunfire proposals, she has fire powers, and she's planning a wedding. "Shadows" could be references to her nightmares from Aaravos and the shadow monster creatures Karim's army is probably going to accidentally turn into thanks to Pharos' lingering corruption. She wields a Sunforge blade, of course, and has doubt/shame surrounding her choices and status as queen as it moves back and forth... so maybe "don't make a harsh choice out of shame/fear of unworthiness?" But we shall have to see.

Now onto what's probably my favourite stanza:

Eight in a line, O Chosen Mine! Ready for a war Endlessly burning Hopefully yearning That love will triumph once more!

"Eight in a line" makes me lose my mind because there's 8 pieces across the board in chess (2 rooks, 2 knights, 2 bishops make 6, + 1 king and queen make 8; as well as 8 pawns, of course). "O Chosen Mine" also makes it sound like Aaravos is the speaker of the poem, which given that he's someone poetry has been written about up until now, is deliciously meta.

"Ready for a war" might apply most straightforwardly to the Sunfire elves, but I don't think we even have eight named Sunfire characters in show, so it must encompass more main players. Perhaps unrest in the Pentarchy, and of course, the Dragang taking steps to try to go to war against and defeat Aaravos.

"Endlessly burning" has a couple different meanings, given that 1) fire cannot burn forever, 2) it seems humans were gifted sun magic first way back when, and 3) fire/burning has a more positive association with light. "Hopefully yearning" has a positive connotation, even if people on both sides can have hope for various reasons ("There is one weird hope" from Claudia in 4x01 vs Ezran's "There is a hope" in 3x03, etc). To yearn for something is to have "a strong feeling of wishing for something, especially something that you cannot have or get easily" and we know that wishes and wants are something that can go from good to bad in TDP's world, especially when it comes to Aaravos.

The characters are hoping/working/wishing that "Love will triumph once more," the way it did for them in 3x09. This reflects back into love > control, narrative of love > narrative of power, etc. It also caps off this stanza of "eight in the line" having the game motif, and then triumphing also indicates winning the game.

But, of course, they can't. Not in S6, anyway.  😈

Season 5 will reflect season 2 Theory

Season 4, despite its flaws, was a clear-cut reflection of Season 1. Here are some examples (There are many MANY more, I can make another post about it while waiting for Season 6) : - Harrow’s and Ibis’ deaths (Harrow gives The Key of Aaravos and Ibis his staff – to Callum) - Harrow gives a letter and Ibis his last breath (message). Both talk about Aaravos.

- Callum meets Rayla for the first time in Episode 2 of Season 1 – He sees her again for the first time in Episode 2 of Season 4.

- In both Seasons 1 and 4, episode 3 ends with death and both have a message regarding said death (Runaan’s arrow on Harrow’s death + Ibis’ breath on his own death).

- The rest of the Season is about going UP the mountain to save Zym – while in Season 4 they are going INSIDE the mountain.

- Both Lujanne and Rex Igneous are unable to help the group – In both cases Callum finds the answer (use the Primal Ball – understand it’s a map).

- Both last episodes end with the “bad” gang finding a map (Claudia’s dark magic spell in Season 1)

!Bonus note on Rayllum: They are not in love in the first season and almost the same can be said about season 4. They are not exactly together yet and Callum seems to act like Season 1 Rayla while Rayla is more cheery like Season 1 Callum.

Ever since we got the Season 5 trailer and screenshots, I couldn’t stop myself from comparing them to Season 2. So here are some examples!

Beautiful irony! In the first episode of Season 2 Janai and Amaya fight to the death and the sword Janai used to destroy Amaya’s sword is gifted to Amaya in Season 4.

Both Seasons will start in Katolis.

The tables have turned! While Aaravos was secretly desperate to use Viren for his own benefit, now Viren needs Aaravos to save his life.

Just like Callum had to fight his inner dark self, Viren comes to realise how he lost his own battle and that it’s probably too late.

The Great Bookery! Both Season 2 Viren and Season 5 gang look for information on Aaravos. They end in battle : Viren against Katolian soldiers, the gang against corrupted banthers. Talking of bathers...

The boat from Season 2 is quite similar with the one from Season 5. I doubt they’re the same though.

Struck by lightening. We’ve seen this before... Could a similar turn of events happen in Season 5? What if the gang is on the white boat and are attacked by the pirates on the red boat. What if like Season 2, Callum and Zym go together, but to slow the pirates down (being the only ones that can fly).

Season 2 Claudia uses an octopus-like creature to catch the gang when they try to escape on Phoe phoe. Well what if she uses it again to catch... Callum?

I've been thinking about this lately, so, here's my Slay the Princess ships and why I ship them:

Witch x Damsel, aka Sleeping Briars: There's just something that's so compelling about the two "fairytale" vessels---aka, a witch and your classic damsel in distress---who can both lead to some of the most romantic routes in the game. The dynamic between a devious little prankster who has serious trust issues and can't let anyone get close as a result and an adorable sweetheart who trusts everyone and falls in love way too fast is really interesting to me, and I think they'd actually be pretty good influences on each other.

Adversary x Razor: Two ladies who love fighting, bloodshed, and pain in general? The potential is right there. They're different enough that there's some dimension, but they're similar enough that their dynamic would be killer. Literally.

Spectre x Stranger: Honestly, I just think that they're both very charming and would probably get along really well, but there is something to be said about them being the two Vessels you get when you don't really give the Princess a chance---either if you kill her without hesitation and get Spectre, or if you refuse to even meet her and get Stranger. They're both lonely and scattered, and maybe they'd find something in each other.

Thorn x Wild (Wounded): There's something really sweet and intimate about two people who've hurt and been hurt finding comfort in each other. Idk, I think it's nice.

Burned Grey x Drowned Grey: It's... it's right there. The duality is right there. The wedding gown and the funeral gown, the fire and the water---it's right there.

Prisoner x Skeptic: This is really the only Voice/Vessel ship I've got on my list, and it's because in my opinion, it's the most grounded. Prisoner is arguably the most human out of all of the vessels, and Skeptic's whole thing of picking things apart and looking at everything from a different angle feels like a pretty reasonable response to the insanity of the construct. Her cynicism combined with his suspicious attitude could make for a really interesting dynamic, and I think they'd balance each other out well.

Contrahero: Come on. Come on. They're perfect. The first time I saw the Stranger ending, my head was already buzzing with "they're staying in the cabin? Together? Married couple! Married couple!" thoughts. I'm far from the only person in the fandom who sees how amazing the dynamic of the intrepid knight and the goofy little jester is.

Smitten x Cold: The dynamic between the dashing romantic who lives off of passion and feeling and the tired and quiet soul who seems to have cut himself off from emotion altogether is too compelling to ignore. The tension just writes itself.

Stubborn x Opportunist: While these two seem pretty different at first glance, I think the fact that both of them are voices who don't know when to quit speaks wonders as to how they might bounce off of each other. One of them solves problems through fists and fighting and the other solves problems through words and deceit---and I think that creates a pretty interesting duo.

Huntcheat: @tai-janai got me hooked. It's actually pretty damn adorable, I dunno what else to say.

(Also, Nightmare is aromantic in pretty much every one of my AUs, and Paranoid is aroace more often than not)

Runaan and Callum--despite the jokes I've made to the contrary about Runaan adopting Callum--will probably have a hard time getting along, especially if Runaan tries justifying his killing Harrow. Callum might be on a journey to become a more forgiving and compassionate person overall, but it remains to be seen how far that will go. Having said that, Viren's fever dream with Harrow seems to suggest that what went down is hella ambiguous and may suggest that Runaan wasn't ever the primary person responsible for Harrow's death (even if Runaan is unaware of that), or that Harrow isn't even dead at all.

Tiadrin and Lain are more straightforward. They'd probably quickly grow fond of Callum much like Rayla did and, much like Janai, they'd probably consider Callum one of their own. Or at least enough to needle him every now and then with "you're sounding just like Runaan! Why can't you be more like Ethari?"

A month and a half from now,” said Callum, reading further down. His mind buzzed with every emotion at once- both elated and bracing for something horrible- would he be able to even get to go to his aunt’s wedding? What would Aaravos do? Should he dare to hope that they could have this? “This is a trap.” Viren was probably right of course, but Callum folded his arms. “Well even if no one else can go, I’m going! That’s my aunt. I haven’t- I haven’t been to a family wedding since my mom married King Harrow.” That felt so long ago. Callum’s voice died out at the last syllable, wondering how he could feel like he’d lived a few lifetimes already in under twenty years.

Why is the worldbuilding in ATLA more cohesive than in TDP?

because the writers actually remember it as a context for its story and characters.

the worldbuilding in ATLA and TDP is very similar in the respect that they have color-coded elements where each "nation" has each element. in both series the color-coding exists to make each group obviously and immediately different.

in ATLA the cultures deeply matter to the characters and story. as early as the first episode you see hints about the culture of the water tribe from katara and sokka. you know sokka has put this immense pressure on himself to be a Warrior and his sexism is partially an outgrowth of that. katara is fascinated by waterbending and her culture but there are no resources for her to learn because of the war, and you immediately get the idea she's also hoisted on a "mom role" from a very early age. all of this reinforces the patriarchal standards of water tribe culture and also the fact that they're impoverished thanks to the war. the characters would not be the same if you transported them to a different setting.

like some of the dialogue can be clunky and the entire conceit of the world is obviously kiddish ("fire nation" "water tribe" "earth kingdom" "air nomads" is not going to win any realism of the year awards.) but it's a very effective introduction to these characters and ties them explicitly to the setting.

in tdp it matters fuck-all. rayla is a moonshadow elf and the effects of their honor culture are clear on her. out of all the characters i'd say her, runaan, and ethari are probably the most developed in the aspect of "the setting should inform the characters." yes runaan and ethari are shitty parents but honestly like what would you expect from an honor culture society where one party is an assassin who allowed rayla to become one thanks to her guilt complex, even when ethari expressed doubts?

this is basically thrown away to tell her "oh dw all your parents (dads + bio parents) are all Good and Did Nothing Wrong." they also scrub away all of her flaws that she exhibited in the first season, or really anything that might make her seem like a "bad person." the moonshadow elves are just scrubbed to be Vaguely Good Guys With No Problems And Whose Choice to Ghost a Teenager Must be Respected (finger wag from the writers.) this could have been genuinely compelling drama for rayla. the setup is there. but they just forget about this stuff i guess.

how about callum and ezran? how does the culture of katolis or indeed any of the human kingdoms rub off on them? does their culture actually inform anything they do? i mean besides the fact that the human kingdoms aren't magical because of dark mage lords eating magic or whatever, which, by the way, the idea of dark mage lords doing this is like. in supplementary material and there is 0 indication of it happening in the actual show. do they have a particular culture or perspective at all? does even something as simple as the fact that they are princes and might have some differences with the common people ever come up? no. they're just bland POV characters who are high-minded to a kind of absurd degree. their context is very clearly supposed to be "Normal." which isn't a context at all because nobody's context is actually Normal. it should be normal to the character, but a grave mistake for the writer to treat it as such.

with the elves it's a little better but still not great. they have at least thematic set-up but moonshadow elf culture is the best of them, which isn't saying a whole lot. what exactly is the relationship between the dragons and the elves for example? who knows!

the writers frequently forget that their characters are situated in a particular situation in a particular world. i mean my favorite example to throw around is the time one of the writers said (on twitter) that khessa's comment to janai ("have fun with your pet") was meant to be a tease about their relationship. and that's insane to me. "have fun with your pet" does not work as a cheeky little tease when you are talking about a pow who's afraid for her life and you are a cruel monarch that tortures people for funsies? like this is khessa endorsing SA if you decide to take the show's context with any level of seriousness. this isn't a coffee shop au? this isn't a high school au? this is supposed to be a high fantasy with actual stakes that addresses Deep Themes? the context to a situation that these hacks themselves wrote should matter?

etc. etc. xadia does not feel like a real place because the setting is completely disconnected from the characters, and only matters to the story insofar as "wow look at this Cool Place you will find your Macguffin in!" It's just about worse in every way even if on the surface it may appear to contain """nuance."""

"I want to ride you 'til you see stars." Amaya signed to her new elf friend, only to frown when the queen looked at Gren expectantly. Turning, she saw his normally upbeat face had turned to stone; his hands still, "Well, tell her what I said."

"No." He signed back with no hint of emotion, good or bad. That meant Gren was really, really pissed off. The question was why? And why the hell was he refusing to speak for her? He'd said a lot more graphic things to women for her with only a little blush, "If you'll excuse me, General. Please excuse me, Queen Janai."

He bowed and stormed off, Amaya gave an 'I'll handle this' look to the queen before following him. She cut in front in front of him, blocking him off.

"What the hell, Gren?!"

"I'm not helping you ruin this." Gren was surprised she was doing it, after seeing them hold hands in the Dragon Queen's lair, he'd thought that Amaya finally found someone worth getting to know. After seeing them in the same space for a small length of time, he was sure of it. Amaya must be too, if she was trying to push her away.

"What the hell does that mean?"

"She really likes you. So you're doing what you always do when this happens. You'll act like an ass until that's all she can see you as. Only this time, you're not pushing her away so you won't fall for her, you're pushing her away because you realized you're already falling."

"I just want to fuck her. She's a friend and she's hot. Why shouldn't I?"

"Because you don't want to."

"I fucking think I do."

"Okay fine, a part of you does." he conceded, Queen Janai was very beautiful, "But come on, can you honestly tell me that you said that expecting her to fall in bed with you?"

"Yes." She looked down, ashamed at herself, "No."

"You know, she's going to need someone strong right now. And frankly, so could you. You've been holding up the mountain by yourself for years. Maybe it's time for you to let someone share the burden, Castro."

"You think Janai is my Signe?"

"She may be."

"You know Castro and Signe die at the end, right?" Long story short, Castro had to lift a mountain to save lives, Signe would stop and talk to him every day; they fell in love. One day the load became too much, and Signe helped bear the weight without question. For twenty years they held the mountain until it crushed them, after the last person escaped.

"Well, I look forward to hearing the legend of Amaya and Janai, happy ending and all." He pulled her into a hug, which she returned with much more force, "Just take it slow and see were it goes, okay? She may be your Signe, or maybe she's just your epic pal, Nanna. It's a perfect win-win."

Amaya went back, a little blank book and charcoal pen in hand. She explained that Gren called her out for using humor as a defense mechanism. She'd told Janai a tasteless joke that she was ashamed of herself for making, and she was glad that she hadn't understood. She refused to tell Janai what the joke was.

The elf was frustrated, Amaya insisted she would never say those words to her. She did put her at ease by revealing it's nature, not a racist joke, but a lewd pickup line that she never intended to follow through with. She explained she and Gren did have a long talk, but the rest was private. Janai looked curious at it all, but left it alone. The general suspected it was only because they didn't know each other well enough to push for information, not yet.

Some months later Amaya made herself a liar. She did sign the words to Janai, but to be fair they came from a far more genuine place. And yes, she did tell Gren that she used that line, and Janai did fall in bed with her after.

She probably felt a little too much satisfaction at that.

Scenario:

The turtles crossover <3 and they have a simulator that will recreate one of their enemies. They all have to fight their version of that enemy, so it has to be one they all have.

The first they try out is Stockman/ Stockboy because he’s easy. God they all laughed at that.

It was difficult to find an enemy that all of them each have. They were all in the simulator and so they decided to fight their shredders (rise and either 2007 or 2012 tried to reject this).

Right off the bat, a few were slammed into walls by Rise shredder. God Rise Shredder and 2012 Mutated Shredder were horrible.

“Grandpa! That is no way to treat your family. Now come here for a hug <3”, rise Mikey teased.

They then teamed up with 19(89??/ 87???) to wail on him.

They take a break from the exercise to eat.

“That was crazy! And what was that about calling Shredder grandpa?”

“He was our great x8 grandfather! He was tricked into wearing demonic armor and became the shredder who was sealed a way 500+ years ago.”

“His soul is free now and living it up with our gram gram, who was his daughter. She created the Hamato clan.”

“Wow…I’m glad to hear. He was a tough cookie.”

They talked about some of their villains.

“Okay so do you guys have a bebop and rocksteady?”

“Nope! But we do have a Todd. He’s not a villain but they were his friends. Like Meatsweats, who tried to eat us. I’m his biggest fan.”

“…what?”

“He use to be a famous chef that would destroy the dreams of every chef that entered his kitchen.”

“Now he just tries to cook and eat any mutant he thinks would taste good. He has some good recipes for turtles.”

They go quiet for a moment as they eat their pizza. A Mikey leans towards a Raph.

“Remind me not to look particularly tasty.”

“Duty noted.”

They go back to the simulator. They decided to try Karai. After all, in most versions she was on the other side most of the time. Rise said nothing because they wanted to see her again.

Since it was a simulator, Karai would only act based on the turtles memory of her. 2012 Karai wouldn’t go for the kill.

Rise Karai… she stood there. She smiled and held her arms out. The rise boys ran to her. They hugged her and cried.

“Gram gram…. I’m sorry… we failed you…. You shouldn’t have died!”, they still felt guilty.

“Anata wa hitori janai.”

Rise smiled at her and they all let go. She fought with them. 2012 Leo was going through a crisis when he he saw them.

Rise Karai gets 2012 Karai on their side.

Eventually, they stopped for a moment so that the rise boys had time to clear the tears. 2007 talked to them for a moment. Once they gave the go a head, they decided to fight a simulation of foot soldiers.

They all laughed at the paper foot. Buddy was among the crowd and hugged all the Raph’s he could.

“This is Raph’s best friend and sparring partner! Buddy!”

“Awe he’s so cute!”

The robot foot were something. The other feet were notable too in some way.

Of course there was the foot leaders too.

“Why are their heads on fire?”

“I don’t know.”

“Whose the girl being Mikey and Donnie with a metal stick?”

“Casey.”

“That’s Casey jones??? Why is she with the foot?”

“She grew up that way. Pretty sure the foot leaders were her dads before…they died.”

“Is she still?”

“Well someone has to lead the newly changed sister clan. Since she was part of the main branch, she tasked Jr with assimilating the secondary branch members all over the globe. Of course there are splinter cells that don’t agree with the change but…”

“Well there is no more shredder after all.”

“Whose Jr?”

“Casey.”

“What?”

“Ah we have two Casey’s. Cassandra Jones or Casey Sr and Casey Jones Jr.”

“We just call him Jr.”

“She looks a round your age…”

“He’s from the future.”

“Oh.”

“Guys please, she isn’t slowing down at all!”

They forgot she was still beating them with a metal stick while they were talking.

“We should do something about that huh?”

“Probably.”

They watch a little longer. Okay so a Mikey started crying so they finally walked over to pick her up.

“Cass! That’s enough, they yield!”

“I crave violence cousin!” (I would have said brother but she is so their cousin)

“Regardless.”

Simulation change once more. This one gave a noticeable tone shift for the Rise crew. Like this is life or death.

The Kraang… rise Kraang made someone wet themself (or they say as a joke).

This is the most serious they have ever seen the rise crew and they don’t like it. Rise forgets it’s a simulation.

“I will stop you!”, Leo grits his teeth and glares.

The Kraang mocks him and it circles him.

“What ever it takes, EVEN IF THAT MEANS I HAVE TO DIE!”, he snarls before launching himself with teleportation.

They don’t crack a joke and fight with everything they have. They get the floor wiped with them.

They get back up. They get beat again. They get back up. The Utrom get knocked out and the other Kraang squished.

The other turtles are trying to fight sister Kraang but nearly die. (I like thinking brother Kraang is confirmed dead.)

Everyone but Leo managed to get knocked out. He gets back up again.

“Your persistence is futile. I will beat you will an inch of your life and have you barely cling to life just to make you watch your pathetic world crumble under the rule of the Kraang.”

He punches Leo a few times. The others try to help- but they can’t do anything.

“Yield to the Kraang!”

Leo coughs up blood. He escapes. The Kraang follow. They fight more. Leo was much better than he was when he fought the Kraang.

Leo had a plan for the debris. He will have the Kraang fall onto two spike shaped debris. Leo following after him.

“Little Leo no!”

The simulation stops before anyone sees him make contact with the protruding metal. Leo falls onto the ground.

His family looks him over before he gets slapped in the face by a slipper.

“What did we talk about when it comes to devaluing your life?”

“Not to…”

“That’s right. No more simulations for you.”

Bonus:

On a lighter note:

“Hey… you guys want to see Leo’s best friend?”

“Sure!”

They see Usagi. Rise Leo looks at them and giggle.

“Wow, your boyfriend is cute!”

“What? No no! He- he’s just a friend I promise!”

“Really? Aw… I was hoping I had a chance with mine…”

“Well just because he is in complete denial doesn’t mean you’d fail.”

“I don’t know…”

Leo goes on to explain how Usagi isn’t interested in him (also casually saying Usagi kissed him- which the others pick up on) and that he will never go out with him and he accepts that.

The turtles that were with rise Leo thinks he’s been lead on. That is not the case.

“Oh! Man I remember that one time I was invited to a new friends wedding. I caught the bouquet. Dream come true. Until the other guests wanted the bouquet. Usagi helped me run a way.”

“Uh have you told him that you-?”

“Oh several times, but he keeps ignoring it. For a while I thought that him kissing me meant that he liked me but now I am not sure.”

There was a pause.

“However I am not going to say no to any kind of affection from him <3”

“That doesn’t sound healthy….”

“What can you do? When your me? Haha”

Two weeks later and someone walks in to see Leo sitting on Usagi’s lap. Oh wow, Usagi can run.

“I don’t know what happened. One second Usagi was talking about his day and the next second a weapon was sent his way.”

Acceptance/Anata wa hitori janai pt 1

After your passing, you wake up and find yourself in a dream like empty black void. And suddenly, you hear a voice. And you get the feeling that you are not alone.

“We have been watching you for a long, long time.”

“Who are you?”

“I am who I am.”

“I don’t understand.”

“I am the turtles gram gram. But you can call me, hamato karai.

You get a surprised feeling and realized it was the other family figure the guys had told you about.

“Is there something that you want to ask of me?”

“I have seen the things you have done for our family. You protect them. You have fought for the turtles. And it seems like you have been fighting for our clan.”

You turn around and see the ghosts of the entire hamato clan with you.

“A friend worthy of our family.”

“Really? But, how can you be sure? I’m not one of you.”

“Oh my child, you have always been one of us But I have also seen your mutant has been getting out of hand.”

“Look, I know it. I really didn’t mean to hurt leo. When…uh… when he looked at me, it seemed like he was seeing a monster.”

Karai gave you a sad look

“I know how it is. But I know that when you ran away, you just felt scared and alone. And believe me, splinter and the boys know what that feels like. To be judged unfairly. To feel alone in this world.”

And at that moment, you just felt mesmerized by what she was saying.

“So we just want to say… that we all forgive you.”

Another surprise.

“Thank you, karai. And…”

She wanted to hear what else you had to say.

“I’m really sorry. When I told Leo that I was dangerous. I didn’t really mean it. Wha… what I should have said is…”

You began to get sad and nearly cried

“Karai, the truth is… I just wish I wasn’t mutated. And I wish me and my inner mutant. And the guys. I just wish we didn’t fight all the time. I… I just… I wish I could have spent more time with Leo and they probably could have seen… like everything I’ve been through. But… but I wasn’t gaining control over it. I just.. I wish I was with the boys. I wish I could get that time back and…”

Karai really felt bad for you

“I… I need my family. I just… I need to be home with my family.”

“Look, I know you don’t want to be here right now, but you are, and there’s no change in that. If you can’t accept yourself for who you are, this nightmare of yours will probably never end. So what do you say? Truce, for now?”

“Actually, let’s call it a forever truce.”

And then she smiled

“I just hope you can still be able to do great things when you go back.”

Another surprise

“What?! Back?! Wait! You mean…”

“Yes. We will let you get back into your body. Back to our family.”

Karai manages to open a gateway to New York.

“Thank you. So much.”

“And y/n, Anata wa hitori janai.”

You jumped out and you feel yourself floating in air and find out your flying.

“Okay y/n. Find your way home. And be reunited with your family.”

You fly around the city for hours, calling their names. And friends of theirs.

“Leo?”

“Raph?”

“Donnie, you there?”

“Mikey? April?”

“Draxum?”

“Splinter? Cassandra?”

“Hello?”

“Where is everybody?”

You sit on a swing seat in a playground. Even though no one can see you.

One thing I noted watching The Dragon Prince is that the intro splits the same continent in half with the elves/humans so they started with the same amount of magical animals/plants each. There’s still some magical animals the human side but their presence is far, far reduced comparatively so do you think that’s specifically because of dark magic harvesting leading to more “normal” to our eyes species dominating?

I’m fairly surprised there isn’t a visibly established livestock industry’s for magic animals too (that way say your lunar moths can be renewably hatched each year, or a sheep population equivalent kept etc).

You seem very immersed in much of the lore so thought it’d be fun to at least pose as a query.

I think there's a few different things here to consider (that we'll probably never get a definitive answer on) but this is my best guess + what we do know about how dark magic operates:

Both regular animals and magical creatures can be used for dark magic. We know this because we've seen human blood be used in a couple of spells, Claudia puts grasshopper goop in Soren's mouth (2x08), and then later uses the deer in its entirety to undo Soren's paralysis.

That said, it does seem that magical creatures are more potent and preferred for dark magic spells. This makes sense - while you can use the life essence of anyone/anything for dark magic, creatures with magic inside them (any arcanum) are inevitably going to have more to "squeeze out" than a non magical creature would.

With that in mind, I think canon gives us a few answers and subtextual clues.

The most important one is something Viren refers to 2x05 (which has haunted me ever since), in which he cites that, "After centuries of fighting amongst ourselves, the five human kingdoms finally found balance, an era of peace." The Book 2 novelization gives a little more information about this period on conflict, explaining that "The first summit of the Pentarchy had been held centuries ago, and it had brought an end to the Mage Wars and created the modern order of the human kingdoms" (Ch17).

We don't know, of course, if this is precisely the same period of time. Maybe by helping to imprison Aaravos (and presumably disposing of the last king of Katolis), the Orphan Queen likewise helped put an end to the mage wars. Maybe she only came on the scene centuries after the mage wars! Who knows. "Held centuries ago" could mean three, which matches up with the Orphan Queen / Aaravos imprisonment timeline (and no more mister startouch elf preying on mages) or it could go back closer to 700-800 years. We'll just have to wait and see if we ever get more details!

Regardless, the Mage Wars and the fact they were likely fuelled by dark magic, since it was humans fighting amongst themselves, might answer why we see so few (known) magical creatures in the Human Kingdoms other than maybe glow toads: mages went after the most potent magical ingredients during the fighting, and reduced those numbers to virtually nonexistent or extinct.

I would imagine before the Mage Wars / even before Xadia split, maybe, more magical creatures were held and domesticated as livestalk. (Elves certainly do keep some animals as pets, such as Janai's flying hot cat, though I'd expect something like a Moonstrider to maybe have evolved as a sort of hunting companion.) However, humans on the eastern side and elves on the western side were likely forced to abandon any farms / communities they had in regards to animal care when the Exile / Schism happened. Information and resources might've been lost, as animals on one side of the continent were likely different compared to others, although some humans (who already lived in the west) and some elves (who already lived in the east) wouldn't have had to have moved.

That said, I think the simplest and shortest answer is just that there's not a lot of mages within TDP's world. For each group of people, we see a lot more warriors or diplomats than mages and they don't seem to regularly be employed in the military of kingdom we've seen, Sunfire or Pentarchy troops or otherwise. We can also guess that in the Pentarchy due to the specificity of the ingredients needed, sometimes, that Katolis by virtue of being closest to the Border would be primed to have the most dark mages and dark mage traffic / travellers (although I've HC'd that Evenere due to its isolation has a fair bit of lingering magic more than say Del Bar or Duren). But due to the amount of knowledge and ingredients required to seemingly do most dark magic spells, as well as the toll it takes on the body, I think it makes sense that most people wouldn't have the interest, access, or ability to pursue that kind of path when there's plenty of others that are less gruelling / easier

Magic is everywhere, and small pieces of magic (like Ruthari's moon opals) are everywhere, but outside of the specific skillsets of each primal (Moonshadow illusion spells and forgery, maybe cooking, forgery and healing for Sunfire elves) it doesn't seem like magic is something they readily depend on for food or livestock in their day to day lives. And if that's not the case for the majority in Xadia (only used in times of crisis, etc), I can see that need plummeting in the Human Kingdoms simply because it takes a lot more time/energy to maintain than might be necessarily utilized because of the low demand

This was all long winded speculation and hopefully mostly coherent. If you're interested in more deep dive worldbuilding thoughts I'd really recommend some of @kradogsrats stuff as it's great and a lot more eloquent / all encompassing tbh

are there unpopular characters in rise kinda feel... not really. ILL SAY. Casey senior just cause she kinda takes the back seat after movie with casey jr..... do yall understand how many fake outs she was.... you could think shes karai due to being in the foot clan or maybe think shed get mutated into mona lisa (her voice actress played the one in 12!).

BUT NAW! angry bruser, sporty, vigilanty CASEY JONES. I love her..... also that she joins the squad cause SPLINTER. was like. oh a troubled youth... they need guidance. extremely cute. 90s movie splinter moment. based. thing we were robbed of #587. 18. it's absolutely criminal that the fandom has been sleeping on...

i really like thinking about the arcs we didnt get to see in unfinshed rest of season 2 and 3.... there was gonna be more mystic stuff, the family actually getting along with draxum more naturally.... GIRL TURTLES (<- dissolves into goo).

i wanna think about it. i wanna think about the raph leo becoming co leaders thing.... the showwww so so so primed for them working together and not having a direct hiercharly system fits cause this is the iteration they designed to be more like a typical family. that why splinter had a career that is not. ninja master. lol, thats why they are different ages (sorry to any quadruplets out there). and after the ages where the childhood developmental stages that are gonna favour the eldest sibling. as for something that actually ended up IN the show... fav fav moment makes me cry when every i rewatch or even THINK ABOUT IT. The moment that lets Splinter reconcile the pain that the Hamato clan brought him, with the legacy, intention, and love, it was created with.

The moment when Splinter's mom, (had to check ->), Atsuko shows up with the rest of the Hamato ancestors. she puts her hands next to splinter and she looks at him so so fondly and she repeats HIS action movie catch phrase. and THATS the moment Splinter, Hamato Yoshi can like. come to peace about the clans legacy.... Perfect culmination of his arc....

like it PROVES. his whole life the legacy of this clan was what was taking his family AWAY. his mom, probably his grandpa? he was suppose to let his sons GET MARTYRED. he left his family, as they had left him. but as they say anata wa hitori janai.... his mom still saw!!! HIS LIFE. his movies. Sees him as he grew, as a mutant, and the love between family is literally magic that keeps them together. THATS what Karai wanted it to be..... So I've watched the first three seasons of TDP a while ago, randomly decided it needed a rewatch, somehow realised it got two additional seasons while i wasn't looking and now I need a place to vent my random thoughts.

I watched around a season a day and i just have to watch the se3 finale tomorrow and I'll catch up with what I've seen so far. When I see the 4th and 5th seasons I'll probably going to start spewing a lot of random shit so beware.

First of all. FIRST EPISODE AND CLAUDIA IS READING LOVE AMONGST THE DRAGONS?!

Second. I shipped Amaya and Janai hard the first time around already but this is so good. Like Janai's sister dying? Prolly my favourite scene so far. (Btw I'm spoiler free for seasons 4 and 5 except i googled ship name for them and saw a picture of them kissing so i know that's canon. Would honestly feel cheated and insulted if it wasn't.) Also the translator is such a cinnamon roll.

There are sooo many lovable characters in this series. I love Amaya and Soren most I think but everyone has such good arcs!!

Like Claudia being manipuated by Viren? I really like how her corruption comes from her love for Viren. I also loved how Soren is seen as the slower one out of them but she's more naive when it comes to their father.

The scene where Soren leaves her and she says "Don’t make me choose! Not again."? Right in the feels man.

Also sending my love to Bait! The guy deserves some love! I felt really bad for him during that scene on the ship when he felt like he was replaced by Zym and then when Callum invited him to come and he was so happy?? Like my heart? And then he basically goes and becomes a parental figure to Zym.

Oh that reminds me. What was the captain's name? I can't remember but i recognised it in those texts in the beginning when important people who work on the series are written so. Fun.

Also Gren is so random but I hope we'll see more of him. Loved his friendship with Amaya even if it had like two minutes of screentime.

I'm trying to think of everything that went through my head during the watching. Um.

Oh! Aaravos (is that correct?) What's up with that dude? And I didn't go back to check but in Harrow's letter to Callum he said that cube is a key sth connected to Aavaros and that he's a powerful mage and knows all six arcanums? So I'm wondering where that'll go. But he'll prolly be the final villain instead of Viren? We'll see ig. And a stupid thought but i just imagined him being somehow stuck in the cube? And my brain automatically got the idea that to open it all six sides must be activated(glowing) at the same time? I dunno what my brain is on atm but this exists in my head now.

And what happened with Ezran's abdication? Like why did he do it? What did anyone gain from that? Were the others supposed to leave them alone just because he did it? Dunno.

Also Aanya is so cool. Really love how she has a brain you know?

Also who was the guy who first deserted when the option was offered? Cause I know we saw him before but idk where. Wait he's not the guy Rayla spared is he? That would make some sense but i know we see the guy who deserts at least once in the throne room? I'm confused.

Also all kings and queens are dead so who's leading all the other armies beside Kasef(is it Kasef?)? Why don't we meet them?

Also Corvus is great and I love how he just goes along with everything Ezran does. You're a weird king Ezran.

This is so random but how was that vet supposed to know how fast an unhatched dragon's heartbeat is supposed to be? Just seemed funny to me.

Also i think the first time around i didn't like Soren in the beginning but now i loved him from the first scene when he helps Callum show off in front of Claudia.

I'll be back in the morning but right now I'll have to finish this rant cause i went to bed like two hours ago and couldn't sleep so this happened lmao.

Ok so because callum used dark magic, Aaravos can control him. I’m pretty sure that’s gonna be important. So I was thinking about how they are gonna get around this and that’s when I remembered, the sun forge. Janai’s sister said it would purify the parts of Viren touched by dark magic. It would kill Viren for sure, and honestly probably Claudia at this point too, but what about Callum. He only used it twice so he should be fine. I’m not sure how they would fix the sun forge tho. For sure they’d need the staff but honestly I don’t see Claudia giving that up anytime soon. Maybe they get the sun seed back from the prince of fools and miyana( I think that was her name) or maybe Sol Regim tells them to take the seed back to Janai, let him go back to his brooding, and to piss off. I really hope someone tells them that last thing. They’re both tap dancing on my nerves.
