Red lights.
Plot: If guilt had a name it would be Dean Winchester.
Pairing: Dean Winchester x sister!Reader
Warnings: mention of violence, mention of Demon!Dean, needles, blood, fluff in the end but only a bit
Tumblr media
Everything happened so fast. So very fast.
The red lightning, which emerges from the lamps above you turns the bunker into a place you're unable to recognize. This whole situation has been feeling like a never-ending nightmare for a while and now it was also looking like one. Dean has always reassured you, that while the world around you was filled with ghosts and demons he would always look out for you. And you never questioned him. However, right now, you were hiding from him as if he turned into one of those monsters he swore to protect you from. You look up you can notice it in Sam's eyes. You're not the only one terrified of your oldest brother.
"Smart, Sam. Looking the place down. Doors won't open. I get it." His deep voice is echoing through the empty and cold hallways. "But here's the thing. I don't wanna leave. Not till I find you two."
Your relationship with Dean has always been different from the one you have with Sam. While the younger brother actually feels like a brother to you, Dean has always meant more to you. After all, he practically raised you since you were a little child. However, at this moment, while his hammer was destroying the door, you tried your best to still see him in all of this. He may be a demon, but underneath all of that hatred your brother had to remain… right? But it becomes much more difficult with every second that passes. You take a deep breath.
"Y/N.", Dean suddenly says and Sam instantly pushes you behind his bigger body. "Oh, come on.", you can see how a fake pout emerges on his face:" I just want to talk to my sweet little baby girl." For a moment he lowers his weapon as he stares you down through the shattered wood:" Don't think, that I won't also kill you. I can still sense my love for you, however, it is not enough for me to save you. But if you help me kill Sammy, I might make it quick for you." There's a ringing in your ears. "Don't listen to him.", Sam whispers but his voice is muffled and feels unbelievably far away.
Dean has never ever threatened you. Even when you were much younger and he had earned a beating from John, because of something that you did on his watch… he never ever threatened you before. It was something that seemed impossible to you. But now it had happened and it filled you with an unknown emotion.
"Come on.", Sam speaks and clutches your hand, bringing you back into reality. You two rush through the red hallways and after a minute or two you stop. Sam takes a deep breath and when he turns around to face you, his eyes widen in fear. You don't even have time to properly react before he pushes you to the cold ground. And when you look up, you make eye contact with Dean. His hammer sticking to the wall. It was hurled with such an immense force that it makes your jaw drop.
"Oh man, looks like I missed.", he says softly:" Can I try again?" There is a sincerity in his voice that makes your skin crawl. You nearly throw up. Meanwhile, Sam's knife is close to his throat. So close, it's almost making him bleed.
"Do it!", the oldest brother angrily hisses, his spit dripping down his chin. But Sam's arm just drops after a few seconds. You shut your eyes, not knowing what is about to happen next before you unexpectedly hear Castiel's voice. "It's over!"
You sit on the floor next to the door, your back is leaning against one of the shelves while you observe how Sam pushes yet another needle into your oldest brother's forearm. A weird emptiness has been filling you up for a while now, and while you should be happy that Dean is back at the bunker… you can't help but feel drained. "Are you okay, Y/N?", Castiel asks, and when you eventually tear your eyes off Dean's unconscious body you only nod.
Sam sighs:" He almost killed her." Castiel's eyes widen in shock, as his head snaps towards him. "He did what?" You want to defend Dean, but before you can answer someone groans. Castiel notices how you quickly get up from your spot, and softly nudges you to stand behind him. His grip on his knife tightens to the point where his knuckles are white. Meanwhile, Sam was slowly opening up the bottle with the holy water.
Dean lifts his head and when you notice his black eyes you can't help but feel sick. You quickly turn around and throw up into the corner. Sam and Castiel exchange a quick but worried look. The blackness quickly fades and when his normal eyes scan the room he takes one final deep breath. "You look worried, fellas.", he jokes, but no one laughs. You turn around at the sound of his voice, before wiping your mouth with the back of your hand.
Without waiting a second longer, you snatch the bottle out of Sam's hand and toss the liquid into Dean's face. A pleased sigh escapes your lips when you acknowledge that there is no smoke. "Welcome back, Dean!"
"How is he holding up?"
Sam, who is entering the room looks over at the angel. "Well, he is still a bit out of it, nevertheless, he is doing better." You look up from your book. "The whole thing really took a turn on him- he… he just feels really guilty." The last word leaves Castiels lips as a whisper as if he was hoping you wouldn't hear it. But you did.
A knock on the door catches Dean's attention and he shifts on his bed before sitting up straight:" Yeah?" He expected to see either his brother or Castiel, however when he makes eye contact with you his jaw clenches. "Hey.", you say and slowly walk into his room. You sit down on the edge of the bed. A soft but tired smile emerges on your lips and Dean mirrors it. "Hey."
"I just- I just wanted to check in with you.", you explain and your brother nods. A silence falls over the two of you and you clear your throat:" Remember- Remember when we were younger… you came back from a hunt and you were hurt and John was… god knows where. We didn't have anything in the fridge except for some eggs and cheese."
At that Dean laughs:" And you made me that god-awful omelet? Of course, how could I ever forget about that? My arm was broken and I had the worst stomach pains on top of that." Once again you both sit in silence before Dean runs a hand down his face:" I am so sorry, Y/N." The sound of his voice breaks your heart and you move closer to him:" It's okay, Dee." He just chuckles dry. You know that he won't ever believe you.

Dilemma

Summary: When you and your brothers get caught of guard during a werewolf hunt, they are quick to try and blame each other. But little do they know that their bickering might cost you your life.
Warnings: Fighting, Injuries, Hospitals
Word count: 2.1K
⛤ SUPERNATURAL MASTERLIST ⛤
“Why does it always have to be werewolves?” You groaned from the backseat, leaning your head up against the cool window. You and your brothers were on your way to a hunt just a few towns over from where you had been staying: A pack of particularly disruptive werewolves had been disrupting the town.
“It’s not.” Sam shrugged, “We took out that banshee last week. and the poltergeist the week before that-”
“Don’t be pedantic, Sam. You know what I mean.” You pouted.
“Look Sweetheart, I know you don’t like them but everything will be fine. This is a routine hunt and it’ll be over before you know it.”
You had always hated werewolves. Ever since you were you. The majority of them were cruel and tricky to catch, but over all just more of a pain in your ass than anything.
“Sure.” You mumbled leaning back into your seat. “Whatever you say, Deano.”
~
The minute the impala rounded the corner they were on you. Swarming in from every corner of the space, weaving between the trees with their teeth bared and a cantankerous look plastered on their faces. You heard your eldest brother curse, reaching into the glove box and pulling out the gun loaded with silver bullets. Your fingers reached blindly for your silver knife stashed away in the side pocket of the door, as you continued to watch them swarm still not blinking. Like maybe if you focused on them hard enough they would disappear. Poof. Gone.
Of course it’s never that simple, is it?
Dean’s fingers lingered on the door handle but before he tugged it to open the door, his green eyes met yours. One look said a million more things than words ever could. Be careful. Please. He pleaded with unspoken words. You gave him a nod of reassurance and that was all it took for him to turn and charge out of the car towards them.
They came toward you snarling. Thirsty for bloodshed.
You charged forward, engaging yourself in a tussle with the nearest one. She bared her teeth, scowling as you charged at her with your knife. When you swung she jumped back so your blade missed her completely. Cursing, you moved around her quickly as she moved to attack. She went low trying to catch you off guard but your trained eye noticed this and you stepped out of the way. When her back was to you, you slashed down firmly with the weapon. The werewolf howled in pain struggling on the floor as the silver burned her skin before her body gave out and she lay dead on the ground. One down, who knows how many more to go.
But it was like something had been set off the minute you killed that first wolf. Head’s snapped toward you, eyes twitching and two of them made a beeline for you.
Gunshots fired and one of them went down before she had even managed to take more than three steps in your direction. Dean’s pistol simmered with heat as he moved to aim the trigger at the second but quickly had a change of plan when he was tackled to the side landing with an uncomfortable sounding grunt. The two of them scuffled on the ground as Sam tussled with two of his own.
The wolf that was racing toward you was bigger than you. Much Much bigger. And stronger, given his wolfish strength. The thought made your stomach drop a little. But you had handled worse.
He swung at you with his claws which you managed to duck under. As you moved, you managed to nick his calf with your blade. Not enough to really do any damage, but enough to piss him off even more. He turned impossibly fast, knocking you to the ground. You groaned as you collided with the gravel but scrambled to get back on your feet and then ran, trying to create some distance between the two of you until you either found a way to get the upper hand or one of your brothers noticed. But the werewolf was much faster, and so it had been a stupid idea in the first place. He gripped the back of your shirt, jolting you back before slamming you into a tree. Your knife dropped to the floor and you had to bite your lip to keep the whimper slipping from your lips as you heard your ribs crack from the blunt force.
And then his face was uncomfortably close to yours. So much so that you could feel his hot breath fanning across your neck.
“You killed her.” He spat, pinning you closer to the tree and letting the bark dig into your back. Droplets of blood began to seep into your shirt from where his nails dug into your skin as he pinned you into place.
“Yeah. And you’re next.” You lifted your leg to knee him in the groin. He recoiled and you scrambled for your knife in vain for he knocked you to the ground with another kick to your already injured ribs. You went down with a cry and he moved to pin your wrist to the ground before kicking the knife away and tossing you back up against the tree.
“I thought you would be better than this, Winchester.” The werewolf taunted “An infamous Winchester taken down pack of wolves.”
Then he slashed at you: Long, irregular stripes down your stomach tore open as he dug his claws into your skin.
“Funny really. Almost poetic.”  He leaned closer, keeping you pinned as he loomed over you. His hands had found your waist making you squirm as he pushed his fingers into the wounds he had created. An agonised sob slipped out. “But I suppose it’s only fair. You kill my sister…so I kill you. Oh how I can’t wait to see the look on Sam’s-”
He never got to finish his sentence because he had dropped to the floor dead. Sam stood behind him with his pistol ready and a worried look on his face. That was when you noticed that the rest of the creatures had been disposed of by your brothers.
“Jesus Christ, Kid. That was close.” Dean breathed out. “You need to be more careful.”
He was angry. You could tell from the way he stood; jaw clenched, shoulders a little too high to look natural.
“You’re okay though?” He asked, checking you over visually for injuries.
You opened your mouth to speak but were cut off by your other brother.
“ What the hell was that?” Sam frowned, drawing Dean’s piercing gaze away from you and  distracting him enough that he didn’t notice how you favoured one side.
“I’m sorry?” Dean’s eyebrows shot up and he stopped in his tracks, twisting toward his brother.
“You didn’t think to park somewhere less obvious?”
“We’re in the middle of nowhere, Sam.” Dean’s voice rose as he began to walk back to the car.
“Exactly. And they still knew we were coming.”
“And how is that my fault?” He scoffed.
You had fallen behind. Their voices began to fade in and out as your head pounded, throbbing in sync with the gashes in your skin, still gushing with blood that stained your flannel. You pulled it closer, stumbling. Though soon it would do little to conceal what should have been so obvious to your brothers.
“Dean…” Your vision swam and you lost your footing slightly. But your call went unheard.
“Clearly they heard the car. If you were less obsessive over the damn thing and had just left it on the side of the road then they would never have known.” Sam spat. “Honestly Dean, It’s careless. An attack like that… Y/N could have gotten seriously hurt.”
“Oh so it’s all my fault?” Dean threw his hands up in the air as he snapped at his brother. “If you had done the research like you were supposed to then-”
“You always do this, Dean. You can’t always pin the blame on me. It wouldn’t hurt for you to help out once in a while instead of sleezing around in some bar-”
“Sammy…” You whispered, trying again to desperately gain one of their attention.
You felt sick. Weak. staggering slowly behind them.
And then, you hit the floor.
Your legs gave out beneath you and you crumpled to the ground in a heap of agony clutching at your stomach.
“Y/N?!” Dean cried out your name at the sound, whipping around. His eyes widened in horror at the sight as he dropped to your side. Wrapping his arm over you, he rolled you onto your side to examine what he had failed to see before.
Sam paled at your bloody hands, gawping as crimson flowed around what little pressure you applied.
You whimpered as Dean pushed up your shirt to reveal the mangled cuts. Sam sucked in a sharp breath as he blinked away tears.
“S’rry.” You slurred eyes barely open as your head lolled on the ground. “Tried to… tried to t’ll you…”
“Shh.” Sam’s voice trembled. He gripped your hand to try and ground you not caring for the way your blood tainted his skin. “It’s okay. You’re gonna be just fine.”
“Mmh-” you cried out as Dean applied pressure to the wound with his bundled up flannel. The cold air pinched at his skin. He cared little for it. They needed to get you to the car. It wasn’t far at all; he could see the bonnet shining in the moonlight. But the thought of moving you made his stomach weak.
“We need to move her.” Sam voiced.
“I know.” Dean swallowed thickly. He took a deep breath. “Okay. Sweetheart, we need to move you okay it’s going to hurt but you need to stay awake, okay? You’ve already lost too much blood.”
You made no response except an incoherent murmur. You skin was paler than usual and your lips had began to turn a concerning shade of blue. But the cold was worse.
“Okay. On three Sammy. You lift.”
Sam nodded.
“One…Two…Three-”
Sam lifted you swiftly, expecting you to howl in pain. But your body didn’t so much as twitch. Your eyes rolled into the back of your head as you passed out.
~
“I’m sorry, Sam.”
The two of them sat waiting anxiously at your side. They had rushed you into the hospital, alarming the nurses as they demanded you get help.
The youngest Winchester bounced his leg. “She’s going to be fine.”
“That’s not what I meant.”
Sam shifted his gaze ever so slightly, afraid to tear his eyes away from you for too long.
“I shouldn’t have yelled. It wasn’t your fault.”
Sam nodded gently. “It’s not yours either, Dean. So don’t go getting that in your head.”
“But it is-”
“Stop. We’re not talking about this now. I can’t.” He returned to watching over you cautiously.
The two of them fell into a pregnant silence.
“The doctors said she should be awake soon.” Dean tried to lighten the mood, but somehow it made it feel darker.
“I know.”
“You think she’ll be mad?”
“Who, Y/n?” Sam tilted his head. Dean nodded. “Nah. She’s too forgiving.”
“Yeah. Wonder who she gets that from.” Dean teased playfully. Sam just rolled his eyes and continued to rub circles into your hand.
And then you stirred, scrunching your face up. When you tried to shift, your eyes shot open as pain joleted through you despite the drugs the hospital had dosed you up with.
“Hey, Hey.” Sam cooed.  “You’re alright. It’s okay.”
“De? Sammy?” You blinked.
“Yeah Sweetheart. It’s us.”
“You’re in the hospital.” Sam added. “They fixed you up.” You nodded slowly, noting the bags under their eyes and the extra stubble. “Are you okay?”
Dean could have laughed. “You’re in the hospital and the first thing you ask is if we’re okay?”
You fell silent, shrugging, which caused your ribs to pull, earning a wince.
“What are we gonna do with you huh, Kiddo?” Dean chuckled. “You’re too good for this world.”
“Well then, it’s a good thing she’s gonna be around for a long while longer.”

Everything Goes Wrong
Summary: Dean is there to comfort his little sister after she suffers a fatal injury while hunting.
Pairings: Dean x Sister!Reader; Sam x Sister!Reader
Warnings: Angst; hurt/comfort; whump; death
Word Count: 1.3k
Author’s Note: Requested from anonymous many moons ago.
Tumblr media
Dean. He was running toward you, screaming your name. You couldn’t comprehend his urgency; the leviathan were dead, the fight was over.
It all happened so quickly. You walked into a battle already underway. A small group of hunters also trailing the levis were first to arrive at the hideout, complicating an already dicey hunt. At the sight of their chaotic fighting, it became immediately clear that none of them had the tact or skill of a Winchester. Your brothers took action, causing two of the chompers to flee. Dean tossed one of the rookie hunters a sack of crude borax bombs and instructed them to capture the runaways. Sam crossed the warehouse, distracting one of the remaining leviathan. Dean took advantage of his brother’s diversion, driving the righteous, blood soaked bone he brandished deep into her skull.
On the other side of the abandoned stockroom, you were taking a beating from the last leviathan. He had been momentarily stunned by the bottle of borax you smashed over him, but his resiliency was remarkable. Almost immediately regaining his composure, he flung you into a pile of scrap metal. You scrambled to your feet, unsheathing your knife in the process. He made quick work of disarming you before effortlessly pinning you against a steel support beam. You winced, preparing for the worst, when suddenly, he retreated. Your eyes opened to find Sam impaling him with the bone several yards away.
High off the action, your entire body pulsed with energy. Or was it throbbing? Normally, the adrenaline of a hunt didn’t make you this… this… what was this feeling? You heard Dean shout your name again. Why did he sound so strange? A warmth spread across your stomach, and you looked down to find a mess of red. Blood? Your blood. Soaking your clothes and pooling at your feet. Bewilderment washed over you as your fingers wrapped around the handle of your blade.
Just as Dean reached your side, your legs buckled. He braced your fall and carefully lowered you to the ground.
"Sammy!" Your eldest brother’s voice was gruff and full of urgency.
Consumed with killing the leviathan, Sam had been unaware of the commotion behind him. When he turned to see you bleeding in Dean’s arms, Sam shot up and sprinted toward you. He landed hard on his knees in front of Dean.
"Just the knife?" Sam’s eyes darted rapidly up and down your trembling form, trying to assess the damage.
Not wanting to speak the words, Dean nodded, his expression telling Sam the severity of your injuries.
“The car’s too far.” Dean thought aloud.
Sam wrestled with his next move. He didn’t want to leave you. He knew your chances of surviving were slim. He heard it in Dean’s tone. He saw it on your bloodstained clothes. Still, if there was even the slightest chance of saving you, he had to try.
“I’ll see if I can catch up with the other hunters.”
Both men knew it wouldn’t be enough, but it was the best Sam had to offer. Dean nodded reluctantly.
As your brothers’ muffled voices became more clear, so did your reality. The once dull pressure was now a searing pain. Your body screamed and your face contorted.
"Y/N, look at me.” Your eyes, wide with fear and confusion, found Sam’s. "You're gonna be okay. I’m going to get help.”
Sam leaned forward and pressed a long kiss to your forehead. “I’ll be right back, Y/N/N. I promise.”
Tumblr media
Through a large, broken window, Dean watched Sam tear across the field and into the nearby woods. When he glanced back at you in his arms, your eyes were closed.
"Y/N, you gotta stay awake." Dean gently shook you until your gaze met his. "That's my girl."
"So tired, De." Your groggy voice begged for sleep.
"I know you are, kiddo, but I need you to keep your eyes on me.”
"Too hard,” you murmured, “Can’t do it."
"Yes you can, sweetheart." Dean was no longer able to mask his concern. "How can I help, Y/N/N? Tell me what to do."
Your brother’s desperation lifted the fog numbing your senses, and you clearly understood what you hadn’t before; you were dying. Anyone else would panic at this realization, beg their God for more time, cling to the last bit of life and fight. Not you. You woke every morning knowing this was a possibility. Saving people, hunting things; it was a dangerous road.
You weren’t bitter; no matter how menacing, your days were full of purpose, and that wasn’t something most people could say. You weren’t afraid; years of close calls had prepared you for this moment. You were, however, insurmountably saddened by the fact that Dean had to watch you die. You knew he would bear the weight of your absence completely despondent and guilt ridden. There was so much you wanted to say to ease his inevitable grief, but talking had grown increasingly difficult as words and breath eluded you. The most you could do was take the hand of solace Dean extended. You silently prayed that would be enough.
"Tell me a story."
Dean smiled. Between your sleepy eyes and the way you were curled in his arms, it felt like you were little again.
“Have I ever told you about the day mom and dad brought you home from the hospital?”
You shook your head “No.”
“Sammy was not happy.” Dean gave a weak laugh remembering how ornery his brother had been.
“He locked himself in his room. I tried to tell him that having a little sibling wasn’t all bad, but he wouldn’t listen. Dad had to take his door off the hinges to get him out.”
“He loves’me now.” you noted dreamily.
“He sure does.” Dean agreed, furrowing at your slurred speech. Another sign that your body was succumbing to its injuries.
“That phase lasted less than an hour,” he continued.
“Wha’happn’d?”
“He held you.” Dean’s voice was thick with nostalgia. “Mom convinced him. He sat in Dad’s chair, and she laid you in his lap. He wasn’t sure at first, but then you smiled.”
Despite your pain, a contented grin eased across your face.
“Just like that.”
“D’d you hold me?”
Dean nodded. “You were so small, but I swear your eyes were as big and Y/E/C as they are now. I stared at you for hours. I never wanted to let you go.” I still don’t want to let you go.
Dean paused to clear the sadness from his throat, but he was losing the battle against his emotions. He could see your eyes growing dim and feel your skin getting cold. You didn’t have much longer.
“I love you so much, Y/N/N.” Dean’s words were short and breathless.
“I love you too.”
Dean pulled you closer and placed a warm hand on the side of your face.
“De?” A small, crimson spot appeared at the corner of your mouth. “C’n I close m’eyes, now?"
At once, Dean felt everything and nothing. He knew the instant your eyes closed, he’d never see them again. He cursed himself for bringing you on such a risky hunt. He cursed himself for not keeping a better eye on you during the fight. He cursed Sam for still being gone. Not because he thought his younger brother would bring anything or anyone to save you, but because he knew how broken he’d be, returning to find his little sister asleep forever. He wanted to shake you, to scream, to do everything in his power to ensure your heavy lids didn’t fall, but he refrained. He knew this would be the last comfort he could ever give you. Dean surrendered to his heartache and let you slip from this world.
"Yeah, baby girl. You can rest now. I’ve got you.”

The thought of your dad dying had always lingered over your head. Every time he missed a check in a voice in the back of your head screamed that it had finally happened. That John Winchester had made a fatal mistake and been killed by whatever he’d been hunting.
Dean had always assured you that it could never happen. But no matter what your older brother said the thought always lingered. Though in all the scenarios you’d imagined, you’d never imagined it happening like this. You’d never thought he would make a deal with a demon.
It had been a few days since Dean had been discharged and the three of you had decided to go up to Bobbys. None of you had really spoken about what had happened in the hospital. Dean had spent his time working on the Impala and you had locked yourself away in one of the guest's rooms.
You felt as if you were in a state of shock. You and your dad hadn’t always seen eye to eye but as you lay staring at the ceiling you couldn’t help but replay every memory of him you had. As you lay there you could feel tears pooling in the corners of your eyes.
Your dad was dead and you never even got to say goodbye. John Winchester was by no means a perfect man, but he was your father and you loved him all the same.
A knock on your door had you quickly wiping your eyes before sitting up. “Co-come in.”
The door squeeked as it opened and Sam’s head appeared. His eyes looked red as if he’d also been crying and you frowned. “Sam? What’s wrong?” You asked your younger brother.
He didn't say anything as he shuffled into your room before lying down beside you. He was quiet for a moment before he spoke. “The last thing we did was argue y/n. He probably died thinking that I hated him or something” He sniffled slightly looking at you with teary eyes. Guilt had been eating Sam alive for the past few days. He’d never gotten to properly apologise and now he would never have the chance.
You sighed before beginning to run a hand through his hair. “Sam. He knows you didn’t hate him. Trust me.” You smiled softly at him. “I know he never said it but deep down he was so proud of you.”
Sam hummed softly and leaned further into your chest.
“She’s telling the truth, Sammy.” Another voice chimed in. You felt the bed dip as Dean sat behind you. Sam kept quiet but you felt him relax slightly at Deans's words.
Your brothers were all you had now. You felt Dean lie down beside you and you shifted slightly so you could see him. He rubbed a hand up your arm as he looked at your younger brother.
After a while, Sam’s breathing evened out and you felt his hold loosen slightly as sleep took over.
“Are you ok? Seriously.” You whispered turning your head to look at Dean. The green-eyed man didn’t say anything for a moment and he just continued to rub your arm. “I…I don’t know.” He finally admitted. “Y/n what he said to me about-” He gestured to Sam. “what did he mean.” Dean’s tone was serious as he spoke. What John had told him was clearly causing more bother than you first realised.
“And he only made that deal for me. I don’t understand why he would throw it all away when he was so close.” He frowned looking down at you.
“Maybe because your his son and he cared more about you than that damn thing that killed Mom.” Dean raised an eyebrow but didn’t say anything. Maybe you were right.
He let out a sigh before shaking his head. “I don’t wanna have this conversation right now okay.” He wrapped his arm around you before settling down.
“It’s late. We can talk in the morning.” He pressed a kiss to your forehead. “Go to sleep.”
Dean closing off was what you expected but at least you’d planted the seed. He shouldn't feel guilty for what your dad did. You nodded and spared Sam a glance.
The youngest Winchester was still sleeping calmly against your chest and you smiled softly brushing a hand through his hair. You felt Dean’s arm tighten around your shoulder slightly. You knew the movement was his way of telling you to sleep and stop worrying over Sam.
You let out a quiet sigh as you lay back on the pillows, placing your head on Deans's shoulder. “Night.”
“Night sweetheart.”
None of you were okay but you had each other and as you lay there for the first time in days you felt some semblance of peace.

Enough Adventuring for One Day
Tumblr media
Pairing: Dean x Sister! reader x Sam
Description: The Winchester's sister gets lost in a store.
Warning: Separation, anxiety attack
-‘๑’--‘๑’--‘๑’--‘๑’--‘๑’--‘๑’--‘๑’--‘๑’--‘๑’--‘๑’-
(Y/n) follows her brothers into a local grocery store. It was a large building, with high concrete walls and a ceiling that towers over the sectioned shelving. Red, yellow, and blue stripes follow along the edge of the interior, like an Elementary school does to add 'excitement'.
"OK," Sam says as he takes out a folded list from his flannel pocket. "We just need the basics. We can start with- Dean! Where are you going?"
"They have cakes over here," Dean says in an obvious tone, "They might be on sale."
"That's not essential," Sam sighs as he watches his older brother walk towards the bakery with a childish desire. "I guess it's just me and you, bug."
(Y/n) obediently waits behind Sam as he analyzes the prices of lunch meat. She holds in a bored sigh as she lazily looks around. The young Winchester's eyes seem to brighten as she notices a small aisle of room decorations. Even though she's not home a lot, doesn't mean she can't admire the aesthetic objects of the store.
The girl scrolls down the different comforters and figurines until a painting on the top shelf catches her eye. The moon on the canvas cascades over a lake and a shadow of trees; its reflection ripples through the waters like a pale entity. Orbs of colorful light dance about the scene like frilly dresses at a lively ball.
The inspired energy that the girl got from it didn't last, however. (Y/n) casually glances to where Sam was, only to find that he was gone. She quickly looks back and fourth from the walkway to see if she could spot him. With no luck, and panic starting to settle, she backtracks to the bakery to find Dean.
Tears form in her eyes as she turns the corner to find that he disappeared as well. She begins to feel claustrophobic as she helplessly looks around for her brothers.
The world begins to spin and it feels like she is slowly falling. Her cheeks become wet and she knows the dam in her eyes finally broke. (Y/n) is scared.
A large hand grabs her shoulder and the Winchester jolts forward defensively. Her fist connects to the palm of Dean's hand. "Whoa there," Dean grins, "I know we told you to keep your guard up, but gee. That could've hurt someone." His eyes glance over her shoulder, " I found her, Sammy."
Sam walks over and grabs (Y/n) by the arms. "Don't ever wander off without telling me again," he says sternly. "One minute I thought you were right behind me, then I look and your missing. What if something bad-"
"Lay off her," Dean says, "(Y/n), you okay? you don't look so hot."
Sam stops his ranting and notices his sister's pale expression. "You feeling well?" He questions as he feels her forehead with the back of his hand.
"I- I couldn't find you. I'm sorry- I was looking at a painting and was going to go back to you, but when I did, you were gone. S-so, I went back to the bakery to find Dean, but he was gone too-"
"Hey, hey." It's alright. You're okay," Sam coos, brushing away a few stray tears rolling down her face. "I'm sorry I blew up."
"Yeah," Dean butts in, "Don't cry, cause I got you cake."
"For her?" Sam spectates with a raised brow, "Really?"
        "Of course," Dean bickers back.
"Can we just stick together while Sam finishes his shopping... Please?" (Y/n) interjects, "I think I've done enough adventuring for today."

Join the Hunt
Tumblr media
Summary: Y/N Winchester messed up on a hunt, and faced the harsh consequences John made. He threw her into a vamp's nest, causing her to turn. Dean however, vowed to turn her back to a human, doing whatever it took.
Y/N sat in silence during the long car ride. She glanced over at Dean, who was nursing a wound… a large gash in his arm. She didn’t dare speak to him, knowing John would kick her out of the car and make her walk back. When they reached the motel room, he started to scream at her ruthlessly.
In a fit of rage, he blamed Y/N for the botched hunt, his voice echoing harshly against the worn-out motel walls. She bit her lip, holding back tears, as she absorbed the brunt of his fury. “I didn’t —” she tried to defend herself. But John wasn’t having any of it.
"Enough!" Dean finally interjected, his voice matching the intensity of John's. "It wasn't her fault, and you know it!”
Y/N locked eyes with Dean, grateful for his intervention. Silence filled the room, punctuated only by the sound of their heavy breathing. “She fucked up, and it cost you that fucking thing,” John said pointing to his wound.
"Enough, Dad!" Dean snapped back, his eyes hard and intense. "She's learning. We all made mistakes on our first hunts." The room fell silent again, tension hanging heavy in the air.
“She doesn’t,” John said pointing at her. Then he turned to face her. “You will obey all of my goddamned orders, do you understand?”
“I didn’t know what to —” she tried defending herself.
John cut her off again, "No excuses, Y/N!" His gaze was icy.
“I didn’t know what to do!” she yelled back, her eyes widening out of fear.
“What did you just say to me?” John asked advancing towards her, his voice threatening.
“I… I didn’t mean to yell,” She said backing away. “I just…I…I didn’t know what to do.”
She was backed into a wall, causing John to sneer. She looked over at Dean, who was watching the encounter happen as he cleaned and stitched his arm. John gripped her chin tightly, threatening her. “Dean’s not going to fucking help you,” he spat. There was a small window of silence before John struck her unexpectedly. She knew John was right. He had made a threat to him, one that would hurt them both if Dean interrupted her. John gripped the back of her neck, walking her forward and out of the motel room in the cold night.
As the door slammed shut behind them, Y/N found herself in the chilling darkness, her heart pounding in her chest. He threw her at the Impala, where she held out her hands to block her fall. She landed hard, her palms scraping painfully against the rough gravel. For a moment, she just lay there, her breaths coming out in shaky gasps as she tried to collect herself.
He picked her up again, and dragged her to the inside of the Impala, slamming the door shut, and going inside himself, starting the car immediately. She was left in the passenger seat, her body trembling from the cold and fear. She watched as John's face hardened into a mask of anger and determination. As the Impala roared to life, Y/N knew that the night was far from over. She wrapped her arms around her stomach protectively, looking out the window.
The moon hung high in the sky, casting long shadows that danced across the deserted highway. Y/N peered out at the desolate landscape, her heart aching with a mix of guilt, fear, and a strange sense of anticipation. She knew that this was just the beginning of her journey into the world of hunting. They had arrived at John’s intended location.
John took Y/N to an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of town, rumored to be the site of several unexplained disappearances. It was a grim, foreboding place, its skeletal structure silhouetted against the pale moonlight.
She felt an involuntary shiver run down her spine as they entered. The eerie silence of the place, punctuated only by the distant hooting of an owl, added an extra layer of dread to the already tense atmosphere.
There, they met a man. As the man approached, his eyes filled with a disturbing glee, Y/N felt herself freeze. But she forced herself to move, to stand tall, because she knew she had to be strong, for herself, for Dean. The night was only just beginning, and she was ready to face whatever lay ahead. John threw her at the man, causing her to stumble but quickly regained her footing, her gaze never leaving the man's eyes. She could see the swift, but fast movements of the man, as he approached her. In the moonlight, the man smiled, and she could see fangs. She heard a door close behind her. Her head turned at the moment, realizing John was no longer behind her. “Dad!” she yelled, running to the door of the shed. It was bolted shut. “Dad don’t leave me in here! I won’t make a mistake again I promise. Dad!”
But there was no response, only the cold wind whistling through the cracks. She turned back to face the man, her heart pounding in her chest. He was right in front of her, and she went into shock, before a painful bite was made onto her neck, and she let out a scream.
The scream echoed through the warehouse, bouncing off the walls and reverberating in the still night air. Y/N tried to push the man away, her hands fumbling against his chest, but he was too strong. She felt her knees buckle beneath her, her vision starting to blur as the man continued to bite her, injecting his venom.
John was already riding back home, happy that Dean had not interfered, considering his son did not know the extent of the punishment. “Where’s Y/N?” Dean asked, his arm stitched and cleaned up when John came home.
“I sent her on a hunt,” John said, only half lying.
Dean's face hardened at his father's response. He knew of John's harsh training methods, the brutal way he punished those who didn't live up to his impossible standards. "She's not ready for a solo hunt," Dean protested, his voice filled with worry.
“She’ll learn,” John said. “Like falling off a bike, right?”
Dean was silent for a moment, but then he shook his head, his face hardening. "This is different, Dad. And you know it. Y/N isn’t ready for this." He stood up, heading for the door, determination in his eyes.
“She’ll be fine,” John said, knowing he was completely lying at this point. “Get packed up, we’re going on our own hunt tomorrow.”
+++
Y/N woke up a day later, and felt different. Her body felt heavier, her senses heightened. She looked around, the warehouse now eerily silent. She touched her neck, wincing as her fingers brushed against the tender wound. She knew then, something had fundamentally changed within her. “Ow,” she mumbled as she got up. It was a habitual response to getting up after blacking out, but she realized she was never in pain.
She looked around the warehouse, only to find the man there. She grabbed the first wooden stick she could find. “I wouldn’t do that if I were you,” the man said.
"Stay back," she warned, her voice shaky but determined. The man merely chuckled, an unsettling sound that echoed through the warehouse.
"You don't understand what's happening, do you?" he asked, a sinister smile playing on his lips.
“I know you hurt me,” she said. “You bit me.”
The man nodded. Even in the dark, she could see him perfectly. Y/N felt a wave of dread wash over her as the reality of her situation set in. She was a vampire, forever changed by a single, terrifying encounter. She had joined the hunt, but not in the way she had ever imagined. She now, became the hunted. “My father —” she started, but he interrupted her.
“Made a deal with me,” the vampire said. “He would spare my life, if that meant the second you messed up again, I would make you a part of my clan.”
Y/N's heart pounded in her chest, her mind reeling. "No...no, you're lying!" she protested, but deep down, she knew it was the truth. This was her punishment, her penance for not being the perfect hunter John wanted her to be.
She backed away, her eyes wide with horror. "He wouldn't...he couldn't do that to me," she whispered, more to convince herself than anything else. But the vampire's smirk told her all she needed to know. “Dean wouldn’t let that happen.”
The vampire laughed, a chilling sound that echoed through the empty warehouse. "Dean doesn't know, and by the time he finds out, it'll be too late," he taunted, his gaze cold and merciless. "Welcome to your new life, Y/N."
Soon, she heard the familiar sounds of the Impala coming. She turned towards the noise, her heart pounding. She knew she couldn't let Dean see her like this. She quickly ducked behind a stack of crates as the Impala pulled up outside. “Get the knives,” John ordered. “It’s a small vamp’s nest, shouldn’t take long.”
As Dean exited the vehicle, Y/N watched from the shadows, her heart aching. She could smell both of their blood. She knew she had to hide, to run, but something held her in place. It was the bitter irony of her situation - she was now the prey in their hunt.
Her mind raced, and it blocked out all movement, all of her senses. She didn’t realize Dean was behind her. "Y/N?" Dean's voice was soft, filled with concern. She didn't dare turn around, she couldn't let him see her like this. But as she felt his hand on her shoulder, she knew it was too late.
She turned around slowly, her gaze meeting Dean’s. His eyes widened in shock as he took in her appearance. "Y/N, what the hell happened?" he asked, his voice barely a whisper.
She stepped back, where the shadows would hide her fangs. “Leave,” she said bitterly.
"But Y/N..." Dean started, his voice filled with confusion and worry. But she cut him off, her voice harsher than she intended, "Just go, Dean!" She watched as he hesitated, torn between his loyalty to his father and his concern for her. She pushed him back, a little too strong. He flew backwards, landing on the second floor.
The shock on Dean's face was palpable as he hit the ground, a sharp gasp escaping his lips. The night echoed with the sound of her frantic footsteps and Dean's stunned silence. “There’s a cure, Y/N,” Dean said silent enough for her to hear. “I can find it.”
“You’re luring me into a trap Dean,” she said. “I know you. It’s shoot first ask questions later, isn’t it? No matter the monster?”
"I... It's different with you, Y/N," Dean said, his voice barely a whisper in the darkness. "I won't give up on you. We're in this together, remember?" His words hung in the air, a beacon of hope amidst the despair.
But Y/N knew things were far from simple. She was now a part of the underworld they hunted, a creature of the night. “Find me when you have it,” she said before running into the night.
As Y/N disappeared into the pitch black, Dean was left standing alone in the frigid warehouse, her words echoing in his ears. He knew the path ahead was fraught with danger and uncertainty, but he was determined to find a cure and bring Y/N back. No matter what it took, he would not let her become a monster. “You turned her?!” Dean yelled to his father.
John turned and faced Dean, his expression unreadable. "It was necessary," he responded, his voice cold and detached. "This is her consequence for failing us."
Dean's anger flared at his father's words. "You had no right!" he spat, his fists clenching at his sides. "She's not a tool for your twisted training methods, she's family!" The tension between them hung heavy in the air, both men locked in a bitter standoff, their previous hunt forgotten.
John's gaze hardened. "You don't understand, Dean," he said, his voice low and dangerous. "This is the life we lead, the price we pay. Y/N had to learn that one way or another."
“What were you going to do?” Dean asked. “Kill her if I hadn’t found her?”
John's silence was all the answer Dean needed. The realization hit him like a punch to the gut. "I won't let you hurt her anymore," Dean declared, his voice steady despite the fear gnawing at him. "I'll find a cure, and you won't lay a hand on her again. As of right now, we’re done.”
John watched as Dean stormed off into the night, leaving him alone in the abandoned warehouse. He had never seen his son so determined, so protective. And as he stood there, a chilling realization crept over him. He had lost control, not just over Y/N, but over Dean as well.
+++
Dean spent the last year trying to find a cure, which also meant a year of the life he lost with his sister. He was constantly on the move, scouring libraries and reaching out to old contacts for information. Despite the exhaustion and the loneliness, he clung onto the hope that he could bring Y/N back to her human self. When he had found her, he was shocked at the transformation. She was no longer the girl he remembered. Her eyes were darker, her skin paler, and there was a coldness to her that he had never seen before. But in spite of it all, he could still see traces of his sister in her, the strong-willed girl who refused to back down from a challenge.
“Hello, Dean,” she said. Even her voice had changed.
"Y/N," he greeted, his voice filled with a mix of relief and worry. "I found it, the cure. We can make this right." His words hung heavy in the air, a promise he was determined to keep.
“I think I’m okay,” she said bitterly. “Now go, because I don’t want to see you get hurt.”
"But Y/N," Dean pleaded, his voice shaking. "You don't have to live like this. There's a chance for you to go back to your old life." His words echoed in the silence, a desperate plea for the sister he once knew.
“My old life?” she asked a menacing laugh in her. She jumped from the second floor of the shed to the ground, landing gracefully. “You mean the life where I was constantly under John's thumb, forever living in fear of disappointing him? Or the life where I was nothing more than a trainee, never good enough, always a liability?” Her words were like a slap in the face. A reminder that Dean had failed to protect her.
"No," Dean responded, his voice steady despite the hurt in his eyes. "I mean the life where you were my sister, where we looked out for each other, where we were a team." His voice was filled with a quiet desperation, his eyes pleading with her to understand.
“Even then,” she said. "I was a burden, never quite measuring up to your standards, or John's. This is my life now, Dean. I'm not the baby sister you oh-so feel obligated to protect anymore," Y/N said, her voice cold and distant.
"But Y/N," Dean replied, his voice filled with sorrow, "You were never a burden to me. You're my family and I'll do whatever it takes to help you. You don't have to face this alone."
Y/N looked at him, her eyes flashed anger, along with unshed tears. "I don't want your help, Dean. I've made my choice." She turned and walked away, but what she didn’t realize was that Dean had a plan. Bobby, her once surrogate father, and Sam, her brother, were behind her.
Suddenly, her body was pinned to the ground, a stake pressed against her, but not hurting her. Bobby's voice echoed in her ears, "Sorry, kiddo. But we're doing this for your own good." Sam was holding a vial of the cure Dean had found. As the liquid was forced into her mouth, Y/N knew her life was about to change once again.
Her body convulsed as the cure spread through her system, the transformation painful but necessary. The pain was quickly replaced with a sense of relief, as her once heightened senses began to dull and her fangs disappeared. She was human again, brought back from the monstrous existence she had been forced into. "Y/N," Dean's voice was soft, filled with relief and unshed tears. "Welcome back."
“I told you, I WAS FINE!” She said.
"But you weren't, Y/N," Dean replied, his voice filled with pain and concern. "You were hurting and we couldn't stand by and watch. We're your family and we'll always fight for you, no matter what."
“Oh boo fucking hoo,” she said. She could hear Sam stifle a laugh at her comment. They're was no more risks of danger since she was no longer immortal.
“Look, Y/N,” Bobby said sternly. “You have two options. Either come with us and hate us, or be on your own and hate us while being miserable.”
Y/N sighed, looking at the faces of the only family she had left. "Fine," she grumbled, "I'll stick with you guys. But don't expect me to be all sunshine and rainbows about it."
“So,” Sam said as they drove into the night. “How did immortality treat you?”
Y/N rolled her eyes. She was angry at her brothers and angry at herself. She stared out the window. “It was actually great,” she muttered. “I had a life un-ironically.”
"Sounds like a hell of a story," Dean commented, a hint of a smirk playing on his lips. "Maybe one day you'll tell us about it." Y/N merely grumbled in response.
She didn't want to admit to her brothers that they were right. That she was in fact hurting and angry at John and hurting over the betrayal she's felt for nearly a year. However, they were her brothers. And she missed them.

Summary: Sam helps Reader through a panic attack
Warnings: Panic Attacks & Anxiety
Y/N had always loved the thrill of the hunt. The rush that came with taking down a monster, the feeling of accomplishment when a case was solved, and the sense of purpose that came with being a hunter. But there was one thing that she didn't love - the panic attacks that often came after the adrenaline wore off.
It was a particularly difficult case, but Y/N had managed to keep her cool throughout. She and the Winchesters had tracked down a shapeshifter that had been terrorizing a small town, and after a tense showdown, they had managed to take it down. Y/N had felt triumphant in the moment, but as soon as the excitement had worn off, she felt her heart racing and her breath coming in short gasps.
She tried to hide it from the Winchesters, but Sam had always been able to read her like a book. He found her sitting in the back of the Impala, her hands shaking as she tried to catch her breath.
"Hey," he said softly, sitting down next to her. "Are you okay?"
Y/N shook her head, unable to speak. Sam took her hand, rubbing his thumb over the back of it in a soothing motion.
"Just breathe," he said, his voice low and steady. "In through your nose, out through your mouth."
Y/N followed his instructions, focusing on her breathing as she tried to calm down. Sam's hand on hers was comforting, and she found herself relaxing a little.
"That's it," Sam said, a small smile on his face. "You're doing great."
Y/N took a few more deep breaths, and finally felt her heart rate start to slow down. She looked up at Sam, feeling embarrassed for having a panic attack in front of him.
"I'm sorry," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Don't be sorry," Sam said, squeezing her hand. "It happens to all of us. It's nothing to be ashamed of."
Y/N nodded, grateful for his understanding. They sat in silence for a few moments, and Y/N felt a sense of calm wash over her.
"Thank you," she said finally, looking up at Sam with a small smile.
"Anytime," he said, his own smile widening. "You know I'm always here for you, right?"
Y/N nodded, feeling a warmth spread through her chest at his words. She leaned her head on his shoulder, enjoying the feeling of his presence next to her.
"Sam?" she said after a moment.
"Yeah?"
"Can we stay like this for a little while longer?"
"Of course," he said, wrapping his arm around her shoulder. "As long as you want."
They stayed like that for a while longer, Y/N feeling safe and comforted in Sam's embrace. As the sun started to set, they finally got up and made their way back to the motel

A Part Of The Family - Dean Winchester
Tumblr media
Masterlist
Summary : You go on your first hunt with your father John and your half-brother Dean, hoping you'll finally be able to prove you're a true Winchester to your father.
Warnings : half-sister!reader, Y/N is 15, John is a shitty father, angst, feeling like you don't belong in the family, killing vampires, maybe some grammatical mistakes as English is not my first language so tell me if you see some or if I missed any warnings.
Word count : 3.1k
French version
Prompt : PL n°1, n°10 "We could have prevented this"
“What are the rules ?” John asks you with a harsh voice.
“Always be on alert and ready to attack, kill first and ask questions later.” you answer, determined.
“Good, don’t forget you have to cut their head or they’ll still be able to attack. As it’s your first time on the field, you stay close to me or Dean, right ?”
“Yes, sir.”
John hands you a machete before closing the trunk of the Impala. You feel a knot in your stomach as you realise you’re only a few minutes away from the most dangerous moment of your life. Your hands start shaking, you tighten your grip on your weapon, hoping it’ll give you more courage. Rapidly, you look up and see Dean’s eyes on you. He puts a hand on your shoulder to reassure you. You give him a quick smile but the fear can still be read on your face. When you’re finally ready, you start entering the vampire nest.
You’ve been on their trails for a few days now and thanks to your personal researches, you found where they’re hiding. Now, you hope you’ll be able to kill these monsters without making a mistake, you want to show John he did a good thing by taking you out of the foster system after Sam left for University. Indeed, when the younger Winchester decided to leave the family business, John didn’t like being one hunter short so he came to get you, knowing he’ll have your custody easily because your mom died at your birth. Until he’d come to your foster family, you didn’t know your father’s identity, let alone that you had two big brothers. When you met them, an immense amount of joy had filed you, you thought you’d finally belong to a real family. John had said to your foster parents he came to have your custody because he just discovered your existence. He made a beautiful speech to them on the importance of having his daughter in his life. When he had pronounced those words, your heart had burst with love, but reality caught you up quickly when he immediately put an emotional distance between you before starting your hunter training. You knew it wouldn’t be easy but you want to prove to him he can count on you during hunts so you make sure to always give your best. However, John is demanding, you feel like you’ll never meet his expectations and because of the pressure you can make some mistakes. Fortunately, Dean knows to be patient with you, he protects you from John's reprimands.
When you’re in the old building, you’re faced with a heavy silence. It doesn’t feel like there’s any threat on the horizon while you’re getting deeper into the nest. You keep walking discreetly and glancing in every corner until you find some kind of cage with a prisoner inside. With a glance, you recognise Jake, a teenager your age who’s been helping you to find the vampires. He had started searching for them before you arrived ; his sister was one of their victims. Together, you had put your skill to good use, you with your supernatural knowledge and him with his knowledge of the city and its residents. When you see him, you lower your machete and run toward the cage.
“Jake ! My God, you’re okay ? Did they do anything to you ?” you question, examining his body quickly with your eyes.
“You know him, Y/N ?” John interrogates.
“He helped me to find the nest.” you inform before turning back to your friend. “You’re okay, Jake ?”
“I’m fine.”
“We’re getting you out of here, don’t worry.” Dean states while starting to force the lock.
“Kid, do you know where the vampires are ?” John questions with a dry tone.
“No, I just regained consciousness, actually. Thanks.” Jake says when Dean finally frees him.
Jake gets out of his small prison stumbling. You catch him when he’s losing his balance. You’re about to ask him if everything is fine when you see pointy teeth coming out of his gum. Surprised, you don’t have the reflex to lift your machete up. Dean and John are about to intervene when other vampires leave their hiding place. You finally push back Jake, scared but he comes back to you again. You try to fight him with your weapon but Jake breaks your arm, forcing you to drop it. Dean hears your cry of pain and turns his head to you. He sees Jake about to bite you in the neck when Dean runs to you and cuts Jake’s head without a second thought. You’re too stunned from what’s just happened to move.
“Everything okay ?” Dean questions, preoccupied.
“Yes, don’t worry.”
John growls angrily, making yours and Dean’s head turn to him. Dean leaves you to help John. You pick your machete up from the ground and try to at least hurt some vampires. Not able to use your dominant hand, you have even less strength to cut heads. By some miracles, probably due to adrenaline, you cut the head of one blood-drinker. In spite of yourself, you stare at the body and their head, not believing you’re the cause of it. Snapping out of it, you look up and see that most of the vampires are dead. John is handling the Alpha vampire while Dean seems to lose his fight with another monster as he’s struggling to get their fangs away from his neck. You run to him and cut the vampire’s head with all the strength you have. When Dean understands he’s not in danger anymore, he sets his gaze on you, proud to see you were able to save him. You can’t help but smile lightly as you realise that, for a first hunt, you did pretty well. With your valid hand, you help him to stand up while John finally kills the Alpha vampire. You look at John, hoping to see he’s happy or at least relieved to know you and Dean are alive and almost not hurt, beside your broken arm, but it’s an angry John who comes your way.
“What the hell was that ? We got ourselves in an ambush because of your stupidity ! How could you not understand Jake was a vampire when he was helping you ? Don’t tell me you didn’t even think about checking him before telling him everything !”
“He… I…” you stutter, making John even more mad.
“Answer !”
“He told me he was looking for the vampires, too but he didn’t know how to attack them.” you explain, feeling ashamed.
“And you didn’t think it was weird he knew that much ?”
“He said he’d been researching for two months so it seemed normal to me.” you defend yourself and John sighs to contain his anger.
“Damn it, Y/N, that’s unbelievable ! We could have prevented this if you had some common sense !”
“Dad, she’s still learning. It’s okay.” Dean intervenes with a calm voice.
“Not when she puts us in danger ! We could have died and she has a broken arm. She should have done better !”
While listening to John’s reproach, you lower down your head. On second thought, the hunt went worse than you thought. You put your loved ones in danger and you disappointed John. it’s going to be even harder for you to find your place in your little family and you hate yourself for that. John is right, you should have done better.
“We’re all alive and they are all dead. It’s a win.” your brother insists.
“I don’t care if we did well ! She should have thought like a hunter.”, John retorts before taking you by your shoulder with strength, forcing you to look at him with a wince, “You better not do that again, next time, use your head.”
“Yes, sir.”
John sighs, letting go of your shoulder. Dean has a quick peek at you to make sure you’re okay, you give him a quick nod to reassure him, but your glistening eyes don’t convince him.
“Come on,” John starts, “we have to go to the hospital for your arm, we can’t fix it. Another waste of time because of your stupidity.”
“I’m sorry.” you breathe, ready to cry in any second.
“‘Sorry’ doesn’t change anything. And get those tears out of your eyes, half Winchester or not, Winchesters don’t cry.”
“Yes, sir.”
Your shoulders drop when you follow John while Dean looks at you with compassion. He knows what it’s like to fight for John’s approval, it’s very rare to gain it, even for him it’s complicated while he does everything John tells him.
In the Impala, John doesn’t say a word, too angry he doesn’t even take a quick glance at you, as for Dean, he wishes he could reassure you, but he doesn’t want to get John more mad. You hold your arm to minimise the pain on the way while you think back to John’s words. Among every thing he reproached you about, his last sentence hurt you the most. Since he came to get you, you know John treats you differently than Dean, he doesn’t see you as a part of the family. Yet, it doesn’t stop you from feeling your heart burst out in pain every time he reminds you of it when he specifies your only Dean’s half-sister or when he refuses you calling him ‘dad’, that one hurts the most.
When you arrive at the hospital, there aren't a lot of people, surprisingly so you just have to wait an hour and a half to be taken in charge of. When your cast is on your arm, you go back to the motel still in silence. You bite your lips, stressed while you’re searching for something to say to rectify your mistakes but you don’t really know John, you ignore what you should say. When you walk through the door of your motel’s bedroom, John points the small kitchen table to you. Reluctant, you walk toward it without a word and sit. Dean starts following you but John orders him to get cleaned up. Knowing it’s not the time to challenge him, Dean obeys. John stays on his feet in front of you, towering you with his height. Instinctively, you look down on your fingers, fidgeting with them until John starts talking.
“I hope you realise what you did was dangerous.”
“Yes, I won’t do it again, promise.”
“You better ! You could have died and so could have your half-brother. At least, you did kill some vampires but apart from that, you ruined this whole hunt ! If you don’t want to go back to your foster family, you better be more useful next time. I don’t need a deadweight but a hunter.” he rumbles.
“I’ll do better next time.” you assure him, determined.
“We’ll see in a few months because with your bullshit, you got yourself a broken arm. You’ll be in charge of the research and when you’ll be able to train again, we’ll get back to it and this time, I’ll be more strict. You need to learn correctly, I can’t have a kid who doesn’t know what she’s doing.” John spats, emphasising on the word ‘kid’, hurting you once more. “Don’t make me regret my decision to get you. And get that sad look out of your face, I can’t waste my time with weak people either.”, he orders and you try to get a grip on yourself, “I’m going to the bar.” he finishes, walking away from you.
Without a glance, John leaves the room. When you hear the door slam shut, you jump. Tears filling your eyes in an instant. You try to hold them back but the more you blink, the harder it is to prevent them from falling. In spite of yourself, a tear rolls down your cheek. You wipe it away quickly, hoping Dean didn’t see anything because he just got out of the bathroom. You take deep breaths, trying to cool down your emotions. Dean delicately puts a hand on your shoulder and kneels down in front of you.
“Hey, kid, you’re okay ?”
Contrary to John, the word ‘kid’ in Dean’s mouth seems affectionate. You see in his eyes he’s genuine, but you refuse to show you’re weak for another second. You clear your throat before looking him in the eyes.
“Yeah, just tired of the day. John went to a bar.”
“Just you and me, then ? What do you say about going to the Burger in front of the motel ?” he proposes with a smile.
“I’m not really hungry and I wouldn’t like John to get even more mad because he won’t find us when he’ll get back.”
“He’ll be in that bar for some time, don’t worry, besides, you need to recharge your battery, you did your first hunt !” he states, hoping it’ll cheer you up.
“What a victory it was !” you scoff, rolling your eyes.
“You got through it with only a broken arm and it was a vampire nest, I call that a victory. C’mon.”
Dean helps you to stand up from your chair. He puts back on his jacket and takes his wallet before inviting you to leave the motel.
At the Burger place, you almost don’t eat anything. You swallow only some French fries but don’t touch your hamburger while Dean devours everything in a heartbeat. Dean doesn’t start a conversation, guessing you need some silence after everything John told you. Dean knows he wasn’t kind with you the second time he reprimanded you with the small part he was able to hear through the bathroom walls. Furthermore, Dean and you have been knowing each other only for a few months now, he ignores if in this kind of situation, you’d rather talk or stay on your own. Just to be safe, he prefers to stay close to you without being oppressive so that's what he’s currently doing. When he’s finally done with his meal, he asks for a doggy bag for yours and goes to pay. On the way back, you don’t see the Impala, which reassures you because you know you still have some time off before John’s return. Entering the room, you take your stuff and close yourself in the bathroom. When you’re ready to go to sleep, you lay on your bed, your back facing Dean who’s on his own bed watching TV. You try to sleep but John’s words keep haunting your mind. The more you think back about the hunt, the more you realise how naive you were. Mentally, you’re calling yourself names, telling yourself that because of your mistakes you lost what little esteem John had for you. Feeling your tears again, you try to breathe slowly. You can’t cry, especially with Dean next to you. He can’t see how weak you are or you'll go down in his estimation as well and it’s the last thing you want. Despite your tries to be discreet, you sniff, drawing Dean’s attention to you. At first, he doesn’t think too much about it, but when he hears your heavy breath and your sniffing several times, he gets up from his bed and comes to you. He sits down next to you and puts a comforting hand on your shoulder. Feeling his presence, you don’t dare to move, waiting for him to scold you.
“Wanna talk about it ?” he questions softly.
“There’s nothing to say.” you state.
“Y/N, I know how his words can affect someone.”
“He’s right, I’ve been stupid, I should have been a better hunter.”
“You’re fifteen and you’re still learning.” Dean retorts, “You were naive, it’s true, but a few months ago, you still thought vampires were some kind of legend from Transylvania, not the reality. You can’t be perfect from the start. You were bound to make mistakes on your first hunt, you can’t be mad at yourself for that. Believe me, I made worse mistakes on my first hunts”, he tries to reassure you but you’re still silent, “Y/N, could you look at me ?”
“No, I don’t want you to think I’m weak.” you refuse, ashamed.
“Why would I think that ?”
“Winchesters don’t cry. Even if I’m not a real one.” you say, repeating John's words.
Dean sighs, trying to find something to say. He hates the way John’s words already got into  your head. He wishes he could reassure you like a big brother should but he’s still facing your back, not wanting to confront him. He knows he shouldn't take it personally but knowing you think he could act like John tightens his heart.
“I know I’m not well placed to say this,” he starts, hesitating, “but you can cry. Before being hunters, we’re humans.”
“I don’t want to disappoint you like I disappointed John.” you whisper, sniffing.
“You’re not gonna disappoint me and as for John, he’ll get over it, you can trust me. When you’ll be fully trained, he’ll see how excellent of a hunter you are.” Dean affirms.
“If he didn’t send me back to my foster family by then.” you add.
“I won’t let that happen.”, your big brother states, determined, “Now that I know I have a little sister, I can assure you you’re stuck with me as long as you decide otherwise.”
“Half-sister.” you correct, John’s voice still echoing in your head.
“In other words, my sister. You’re a part of the family.” Dean insists and you feel a new tear rolling down your cheek.
“Why are you so nice to me ? You didn’t even know I existed six months ago, you have  every right to ignore me.” you question with a trembling voice.
“I just told you, we’re family, I care about you.”
Without responding, you turn around before throwing yourself in his arms. All the tears you’ve been holding back for the past few months finally roll down your cheeks. Feeling your shoulders shaking, Dean holds you closer against him. He strokes your back, inviting you to let all your emotion leave your body. His heart breaks a bit more when he realises how much you’ve been holding back to at least satisfy John a bit. He knows the pain all too well so that night, he makes sure you know he’ll always be there to support you. Your head still hiding in the crook of his neck, you stay in his arms, accepting for the first time the comfort of your big brother.

Being third born after two boys, Y/N always felt like she had big shoes to fill. Despite her best efforts to impress the man, she never really formed a bond with John. Her next role model was Dean, who became more of a father to her than John ever was or could be.
Until her eleventh birthday, Dean did her hair into pigtails every day, partly because he hadn't learned to do any other hairstyle but mostly because he thought it was the cutest on her. He'd pack her and Sam's lunch with snacks he'd bought from vending machines and even pretend to take her on hunts because he knew she wanted to be exactly like him.
When she wasn't learning about monsters and guns with Dean, she spent time with Sam. He'd help her with her homework or play board and card games. They have as much in common as Y/N and Dean. Neither Sam nor Y/N got along with John, and neither remember their mothers.
Y/N's mother was a woman John met in Nebraska three years after the boy's mom died. The affair only lasted a night, but to his surprise, he heard from her again six months later with the news that they had a baby girl on the way. John was shocked and heartbroken. He couldn't bear the thought of bringing another child into the life of hunting.
John kept his distance, adamant that Y/N would be better off without him, and when another three months of silence went by, he figured that Y/N's mother came around to see it his way. Unfortunately, her pregnancy was complicated, as was the birth, and it turned out that having Y/N is what killed her.
When John got the call, he had half a mind to let the state take custody of little Y/N. Indeed, they would provide her with a better life than he could. John decided to meet her at least, and when he laid eyes on her perfect little face, he couldn't bring himself to abandon her.
Y/N was barely sixteen when Sam left for college. While she was proud of him for putting himself first, it broke her heart for him to go the way he did. She missed him more and more every day, often keeping Dean up at night with her sniffling and crying. After a while, he would get into bed next to her when the tears started and sing Hey Jude while playing with her hair to help her fall asleep. That went on for another six months before she finally started to fall asleep without crying.
For her seventeenth birthday, Dean came across a necklace he'd wanted to get for her since Sam left. From his wallet, he took out the only picture he had of the sibling trio, representing the single moment of their life where John treated them like regular kids, and using his pocket knife, he carved around their heads and bodies to match the exact size of the locket, smiling proudly at himself when it fit perfectly.
Now at eighteen, she stands next to the Impala while Dean lugs their bags out, drops them into the trunk, and slams it shut. He heads for the driver's door but stops when he realizes Y/N hasn't opened hers yet. Eyebrows raised, he twirls a finger in the air as if to say, 'Let's get a move on.'
"Are you ever gonna teach me how to drive, Dean?" she asks. "I mean, you've got to, you know?"
"No, I don't. Get in," Dean says. She does so with a huff. Dean checks the mirrors before backing out of their parking spot. Turning to Y/N, he says, "Besides, as long as I'm around, you don't need to," but softens his face into a smile when he looks at her. "Cause there's no way in Hell I'll ever let you drive my car."
Y/N lets out a soft chuckle. "It doesn't have to be this car, Dean!" She rolls the window down, letting the cool breeze hit her face. "What happens if we get separated and I'm being chased by… I don't know, something that has super speed, and my only way back to you is to steal a car and -"
"Stop. First of all, you should know that I'd never put you in that kind of danger," Dean says, disgusted by the mere thought. He lets out a long sigh. "I'll teach you," he says, looking at her gleaming smile. He tries his damnedest to see her for the adult she's becoming, but he only sees the happy baby in pull-ups he used to feed marshmallows and jello to on a motel room floor. "Just… not yet, okay?"
She scoffs, "Most people learn to drive when they're only fifteen. I mean, you took me to freaking Vegas with a fake ID for my birthday, for fuck's sake!"
"I said not yet, Y/N!" he says, shooting her the 'dad look' he's been perfecting since she was four.
"Fine," she grumbles. She clasps her hands, "So I was looking through news articles, and there seem to be vamps in the next town. Should we be on that?"
Dean clears his throat and needlessly adjusts the rear-view mirror. "Actually, kiddo, we're on something else right now." He keeps his head straight but glances at her out of the corner of his eyes. Whispering, he says, "We're gonna go get Sammy."
Y/N's eyes widen as her head whips to look at him. "What?"
He keeps his eyes on the road, "yeah, uh, with Dad missing... we could use the help," he says, gripping the steering wheel tighter.
"But Sam's at college!" Y/N scoffs, "he wanted out!"
"He abandoned us!" he shouts, shaking his head at himself when he notices her shoulders tense. Her eyes peer into her lap, where her hands lie folded. “Look Y/N/N, I just… I can't shake this awful feeling that something is wrong." He waits for a response from her, but she only nods with thin lips. She tunes him out and focuses on the wind hitting the window. "I gotta make sure they're okay," he says softly.
Over the years, Y/N has learned to trust Dean's intuition, but right now, it just feels like he's being selfish. She opts to stay quiet, even if it makes a long drive longer.
Tumblr media
Y/N jolts awake at the sound of the trunk slamming shut. She takes a moment for her eyes to adjust to the darkness. She doesn't see Dean next to her, so she scans her surroundings through squinted eyes, hoping for a clue about her whereabouts. She finds a gas station receipt in her lap and flips it over to see the scribbles of Dean's handwriting telling her to 'stay put or else.' She rolls her eyes, crumpling it into a ball to throw it into the backseat.
She hears the voices of two familiar men, one of whom she hasn't heard in two years. Her heart races, and she fumbles with the seat belt, trying to unhook it with shaky hands. She jumps out of the car and turns in time to see Dean leaning on the back of the Impala.
"It's a law school interview," Sam says, "and it's my whole future on a plate," he glares.
"Law school?" Dean asks with a smirk. Y/N walks over to stand next to Dean. He shoots a quick, acknowledging glance her way. Sam's eyes shift between Dean and Y/N, softening when they land on Y/N, "so we got a deal or not?" he asks flatly.
Dean says nothing but lightly nods his head. Y/N runs towards Sam, nearly knocking him over with a hug.
"Y/N/N," he smiles. Pulling her even closer to him, he wraps his arms tightly around her back and kisses the top of her head. "I missed you," he whispers.
"I missed you, too," she says, her eyes welling up with tears. Sam looks at Dean just in time to see him press his lips together with an 'I told you so' in his eyes. Sam shakes his head, squinting at Dean just before he lets go of Y/N.
"Kay, I gotta put a bag together," he sighs, "I'll be right back."
He turns to head for the door, and Y/N doesn't take her eyes off him until he disappears into the building. She blinks her eyes and turns to face Dean. He pushes himself off the back of the car and silently heads for the driver seat.
Tumblr media
Sam and Y/N sit in the car at a gas station while Dean heads for snacks. Sam opens his door but quickly looks over his shoulder to check on Y/N. This is when he notices the box of tapes sitting next to her. Intrigued, he shifts in the chair and asks her to hand them to him. Y/N is hesitant because it's hard to say how Dean would react, and she's always hated being in the middle of their fights but does so anyway. Sam rests his tongue between his lips as he takes the box from Y/N. Stretching his legs out of the car, he rests the box in his lap to filter through them.
"Hey," Dean says from behind the Impala, his mouth wrapped around a candy bar, "either of you want breakfast?" he asks, holding a soda and a bag of chips.
Y/N waits for Sam to answer first. "No, thanks," he says, glancing Dean's way momentarily.
"I do," Y/N smiles.
"So how'd you pay for that stuff? Three of you still running credit card scams?" Sam says, going back to looking through the cassettes.
"Yeah, well, hunting ain't exactly a pro ball career," Dean says, putting the gas nozzle back into the pump.
Y/N chimes in, "Besides, all we do is apply," she shrugs, "it's not our fault they send us the cards."
"Yeah? And what names did you write on the applications this time?" he asks, swinging his legs back inside the car and closing the door behind him.
"Uh, Burt Aframian," Y/N answers. Dean gets into the seat, handing Y/N the drink and chips. "Thank you," she chirps.
"And his son Hector," Dean adds, "scored two cards out of the deal."
"Sounds about right. I swear, man. You've gotta update your cassette tape collection."
Dean frowns, nearly offended. "Why?"
"Well, for one, they're cassette tapes, and two," Sam holds one up, "Black Sabbath? Motorhead?" he says, dropping them to grab another, "Metallica?" he laughs, "It's the greatest hits of mullet rock," he says as Dean rips the Metallica tape from his hand with a glare.
"Well, house rules, Sammy." Dean pops the tape into the player with a tight smile, "driver picks the music, shotgun shuts their cake-hole," he says, dropping the empty case into the box. "Isn't that right, Y/N?" he smirks into the rear-view mirror and smiles when he sees her roll her eyes.
"You know, Sammy is a chubby twelve-year-old," Sam scolds, "it's Sam, okay?"
Turning the volume up, Dean cocks his head to the side, "sorry. I can't hear you. The music's too loud," he says with a slight chuckle.
Tumblr media
Crashing a crime scene where police are still investigating is just another Saturday with Dean for Y/N, but seeing Sam's eyes widen at the box of Dean's fake IDs calls attention to how out of the norm this life is. Dean makes wise-ass comments to the cops, as usual, and Sam stomps on Dean's foot. Dean responds by smacking Sam's head as they bicker on the way back to the car, but Y/N can't help but grin from ear to ear.
Even when her brothers are arguing, Y/N couldn't possibly be happier. Today is her first hunt with both of her brothers and the first time in far too long since the three of them had been together for any reason.
They make their way to find Amy, who they learn is the girlfriend of the victim from listening to the cops on the bridge. They stop her while she's putting up missing posters, and after lying about being distant relatives of her boyfriend, they ask if she'd be willing to answer some questions to find him.
… "It's kind of this local legend," Amy's friend says after a few minutes of chatting. Massaging her thumb with her other hand, she continues, "This one girl? She got murdered out on Centennial, like decades ago." Dean glances over at Sam and Y/N, who listen intently, "Well, supposedly, she's still out there. She hitchhikes, and whoever picks her up? Well, they disappear forever."
Tumblr media
At a local library, Dean searches the archive page for any murders on Centennial Highway with no results. Sam shoves Dean's chair, and when it rolls back, he scoots his chair to the computer to take over, earning him a slap from Dean. After replacing 'murder' with 'suicide,' a news article pops up.
"This was 1981. Constance Welch, twenty-four years old, jumps off Sylvania Bridge, drowns in the river," Sam reads.
"Does it say why she did it?" Y/N asks, scooting her chair closer to Sam to try and read the screen.
"Yeah," Sam says.
"What?" Dean says with raised eyebrows.
"An hour before they found her, she calls 911. Apparently, her two little kids are in the bathtub. She leaves them alone for a minute, and when she comes back, they aren't breathing." Sam lets out a breath, "both die," he says in a whisper.
The air grows thick around them, and Y/N frowns. "That's terrible," she says, shaking her head.
"'Our babies were gone,'" Sam reads, "'and Constance just couldn't bear it,' said husband Joseph Welch."
"Hmm," Dean points to the picture on the screen, "that bridge look familiar to you?"
Tumblr media
They hit the bridge at nightfall. Crickets sing to water drumming against the rocks as it rushes under their feet. The clouds hang low in the sky, giving the air around them a haze.
"So," Dean says, peering over the bridge at the water, "this is where Constance took the swan dive," he says, leaning against the rail next to Y/N.
"So you think Dad would have been here?" Sam asks in disbelief, looking over at Dean.
"Well, he's chasing the same story, and we're chasing him," Dean shrugs, turning to walk down the bridge.
Sam turns to follow. "Okay, so now what?" he says, forcing a breath through his nose. Y/N walks right next to him, still scared to let him out of her sight.
"Now we keep digging until we find him. Might take a while," Dean grumbles.
Sam stops walking, "Dean," he says, raising his hands before dropping them. "I told you. I've gotta be back by Monday."
"Monday," Dean says, pivoting to make grueling eye contact with Sam, but only turns his body enough that he's still facing the bridge's railing. "Right," he says, shaking a finger, "the interview." The bridge creaks under him as he turns the rest of the way.
"Yeah," Sam nods.
"Yeah, I forgot. You're really serious about this, aren't you?" Dean says, shifting his weight between his feet. "You think you're just going to become some lawyer? Marry your girl?" Dean asks, the animosity growing with each word.
Sam shrugs, "maybe. Why not?"
Dean's voice roughens, "Does Jessica know the truth about you? I mean, does she know the things you've done?"
Sam takes a few threatening steps toward Dean, "No, and she's not ever going to know," he scowls.
"Well, that's healthy," Dean sneers. "You can pretend all you want, Sammy, but sooner or later, you're going to have to face up to who you really are," he says, turning around to continue walking.
Sam huffs, "Who's that?"
"You're one of us," Dean shrugs, a hand gesturing towards Y/N.
"Hey! Leave me out of this," Y/N grumbles from ahead.
"No," Sam says, speed walking towards Dean, "I'm not like you," he says, turning around as he stops in front of Dean. "This is not going to be my life."
Dean keeps his jaw tight. "Well, you have a responsibility to..."
Y/N feels the tension rising and tries to plead with them to stop arguing, but they ignore her. "Guys!" she shouts again.
"To Dad? And his crusade?" Sam scoffs. "If it weren't for pictures, I wouldn't even know what Mom looks like! And what difference would it make? Even if we do find the thing that killed her," he shakes his head, "Mom's gone. And she isn't coming back."
Dean grips Sam's shirt and swings him around and against the bridge's railing with a clunk at Sam's weight against it.
Y/N flips around and runs to their side, "Dean, what are you doing? Are you crazy?" She panics. But Dean continues to ignore her as he glares at Sam.
After a long, breathless pause, Y/N shouts again, "Dean!"
The misty air is still between them, and even the wind seems too frightened to move. It's as if the world is put on pause.
Dean's eyebrows raise, and he keeps a firm grip on Sam's shirt. Under his breath, he says, "Don't talk about her like that."
He throws Sam's jacket from his hands and takes a few stabilizing steps backward in one movement. Y/N runs to check on Sam, who shakes her off with an "I'm fine" that sounds muffled compared to the pounding of her heart. A few tears escape her when she looks over at Dean walking away from them, but she doesn't realize she's crying until the taste of salt hits her lips.
Her eyes return to Sam, shaking her head in disgust that Dean would treat him like that. She knew it had been rough for Dean since Sam left for college, but hell, it's been hard on her, too, and she's not throwing anyone against the side of a bridge!
Dean halts, “Sam. Y/N!” he calls. Y/N turns with a full-body glare, but her eyes widen when she sees a woman in a long, white dress standing on the bridge's railing. The woman looks over at them, and Y/N can see the resemblance to the picture of Constance. The woman's hair and dress sway in the wind, and she keeps her eyes on them as she allows herself to drop from the ledge.
With a grunt, Sam rushes to the railing to look over it for her, Dean and Y/N not far behind him.
"Where'd she go?" Dean barks.
Breathless, Sam pushes out an "I don't know."
The roar of the Impala's engine turning on startles them, their bodies whipping around just in time to see the headlights flick on.
"What the-," Dean says.
"Who's driving your car?" Y/N asks.
Without taking his eyes off of the car, Dean pulls his keys from his pocket and jingles them, stealing Sam and Y/N's attention to them in unison. The engine revs, drawing back their wide eyes to the Impala. The tires squeal as the car begins to speed towards them.
"Y/N, go! Go!" Dean says with a hand on each of his siblings, spinning them around to run in the opposite direction. Dean presses his hand firmly on Y/N's back as they run, keeping himself between her and the car. They run as fast as they can until Dean can feel the Impala's breath on his ankles, and he guides them towards the bridge's railing.
Y/N's heart feels like a brick in her chest, weighing her down at the thought of jumping over. "I can't," she says in a breath, and all in a split second, she feels like her feet are cemented into the bridge's planks as Sam jumps over. "No!" she screams as Dean grips onto her arm, pulling them both over the bridge.
Sam hangs from the ledge of the bridge, shouting for Y/N as her screams are washed out with a big splash. "Y/N!" he calls again from the back of his throat, climbing up the bridge to get on his knees. He looks over the bridge, scanning for Y/N and Dean, calling out when he sees his brother, "Dean! You alright?"
"I'm super," Dean grumbles with an outstretched thumbs up. Lying on his back, half submerged in the muddy water.
"I can't see Y/N! Where's Y/N?" Sam panics, and when the words hit Dean's ears, he springs to his feet in a second. He whirls around in a circle as he searches for her.
"Y/N!" Dean shouts, wiping mud from his face. He paces around, "Y/N, where are you?" he yells, half-expecting her to pop out from behind a bush to scare him.
Tumblr media
The world spins around him for a moment, utterly void of sound aside from a ringing in his ears as Dean tries to comprehend what is happening. He closes his eyes tight, shaking his head to clear away the fog that covers him. They open onto the water, catching the moon's glimmer reflecting off something. He runs towards it, hopping from rock to rock until he finds Y/N's broken locket stuck in algae. Dean picks it up with shaky hands, recalling how her face lit up when he first gave it to her. She'd be devastated to see its state now. Fear spills down him in an icy chill.
His head swivels around in search of her. Tears, that he refuses to let fall, poke at his eyes when he sees her lying face down in the water, a bloody rock next to her.
“Y/N!” He shouts, rushing to her. He kneels to pull her out of the water by her shoulder, turning her over so that her back rests against his knee. "Y/N!" he yells again, and when she doesn't respond, he grabs her by the waist and hoists her over his shoulder. He grunts, shifting his weight before jogging for the shore. "Sam! I got her!"
"Dean! Is she okay?" He calls out as he sprints down the side of the hill to catch up to them. The brothers reach the shore simultaneously, and Dean drops to his knees to gently set Y/N on the ground in front of him, Sam following suit.
"Come on, be okay, be okay, be okay, be okay," Dean pleads softly, placing two fingers on her neck. His heart is beating so hard that he can't tell if it's her pulse he's feeling or his own. "Sam, I can't feel anything," he says. Dropping an ear to her mouth, he adds, "And I don't think she's breathing."
"Call 911," Sam demands, ripping his jacket off to tie around Y/N's bleeding head wound. He quickly inspects the rest of her body for any bleeding before placing a hand on her chest. Looking up at Dean, who stands frozen, Sam puts his free hand on Dean's shoulder, "now, Dean!" he shouts, shoving him.
Sam tilts Y/N's head back, checking again for a pulse, a breath, a twitch, a shudder, anything that meant he wouldn't have to perform CPR on his baby sister. He places his hands on her chest, one over the other, pausing in case her heart miraculously started again, but all he feels under his palms is the stillness of Y/N's wet and cold chest.
Sam begins chest compressions, and the tears he'd been holding back rush out uncontrollably when he feels her ribs break under his palms. It makes him want to pull away, but he forces himself to continue. Dean watches in wide-eyed horror as he gives the 911 operator their location when asked, keeping his free hand pressed against his forehead.
"Anything?" he shakily shouts at Sam after what feels like hours. Sam ignores him, counting out loud until he hits thirty again. He stops compressions to blow a shuddering breath into Y/N's mouth, watching her chest rise and fall before delivering another. "Hello! Is anybody on the way? My sister is dying here!" Dean shouts into the phone, but all that meets his ears is static.
"Dean," Sam says with a heavy breath, beginning compressions again. "You gotta take over," he says between breaths.
Without question, Dean drops his phone to the ground as he falls to his knees next to her, "come on, Y/N," he pleads, ignoring the burning in his knees as he places his hands together on top of Sam's. Sam leaves his hands under Dean's for just one compression before pulling away.
"Okay, that's ten. You've got twenty more before breaths," Sam says before they count out loud together with every push into Y/N's chest.
Dean is growing tired by his third round of compressions, but the sirens in the distance electrify him, giving him the energy he needs to continue.
His face scrunches up as he musters the emotional and physical strength to keep going. Sam hurries to his feet, "don't stop, Dean, you're doing great!" he says with a palm at him.
"Don't stop," Dean repeats mindlessly, "don't stop."
Sprinting towards the paramedics, Sam waves his arms, shouting, "Down here! We're down here!" before he knows it, a group of professionals sprint down the hill, the gurney in tow. One takes a story from Sam as one tries to pull Dean away so the other two can take over caring for Y/N.
"No, I can't stop!" he cries, which grabs Sam's attention, "don't stop," he nearly whispers, hands pumping into Y/N's chest.
Sam rushes over and lowers himself to Dean's level. "Dean, let go. It's okay, they'll take it from here," he says, grabbing onto Dean's hands to pull him off of Y/N. They watch the paramedics in shock as they cut the shirt, bra, and pants off of Y/N, inspecting her skin. The first responders put what look like stickers with wires attached to them onto her chest and pull out the AED, telling everyone to stand clear before delivering a shock with a beep. Then, there was a pause and the silence that follows is deafening. Nothing. They check for a pulse and call clear again, shocking her. Then, nothing. Again.
Tumblr media
In the hospital's hallway, Dean tries to tune out the surround sound of constant beeping. His elbows rest on his scraped and bloody knees with his head held in his hands. He rocks back and forth, battling with himself. He sheds tears both out of fear for his sister's well-being and of guilt that he did the very thing he promised her he wouldn't: put her in danger.
The clacking of Sam's shoes pulls Dean from his homemade mental Hell. Dean lifts his head, quickly wiping his eyes before grabbing the cafeteria coffee. Sam's familiar smell of motel soap and deodorant washes away the torturous smell of hand sanitizer.
"Thanks," Dean mutters, taking a sip of the coffee before placing it next to him on the cold tile floor.
Sam's eyes are red and puffy. Dean struggles to comprehend how Sam doesn't even try to hide the tears coming down. He often admires his brothers ability to wear his heart on his sleeve, though he'd never admit it. He wonders who he's being 'strong' for in this moment because it's certainly not himself.
Clearing his throat, Sam pulls his pants up slightly at the thighs before sitting on the bench next to Dean. He glances up at the ceiling momentarily, waiting for the announcement to end before asking, "Any news yet?"
Dean shakes his head. "No," he says in a raspy voice, forcing his eyes to look up and down the hall. "Excuse me," he says, standing to interrupt a nurse before she can enter a different room. "Would you mind helping us find whoever we need to talk to for an update on room 221?" he asks, gesturing to the door he hasn't been able to even look at since arriving.
Her eyes flutter to Sam, then the door, and back to Dean before she somberly nods. "Of course," she says, setting her pen back onto the clipboard as she turns to head in the direction she came.
Dean wants to return to his seat, but his body feels like an anchor. He sucks in a sharp breath. His shoulders tighten into his neck and with weak arms his hands fall to his hips. He hangs his head, clenching his teeth and pulling his face to suppress the tears. Sam jumps up to Stand with Dean, placing a hand tightly on his shoulder.
"She'll be alright," Sam says, not fully believing himself, "she's a Winchester; she has to be."
Dean quickly straightens himself out because damn it, he's the one that's supposed to be taking care of his younger siblings - not the other way around.
"Sam and Dean Winchester?" a deep voice echoes the hall and they whirl around to greet the doctor. Dean quickly slaps the tears from his face. "I'm Dr. Ferguson," he says, holding his arm up to shake hands with Sam, then Dean. "Let's go somewhere more private to talk."
"We're good here," Dean spits.
"Very well," the doctor sighs, looking down the hall behind him. He shuffles them closer to the wall and out of the traffic flow. "Well, while we were able to restart her heart, I'm afraid your sister has sustained a substantial injury to the head," he says, "the trauma caused the tissue around her brain to swell quite rapidly, and well, we have her on a ventilator, but," he lets out a breath, "we haven't seen as much progress as we were hoping for. She's technically in a coma right now, but we hope to see her come out of it in the coming weeks."
"Weeks?" Dean bellows.
"Yes, I'm afraid that's standard recovery time for an injury of this magnitude. Although, we'd be having an entirely different conversation if not for your quick thinking in the field," he says with a tight-lipped smile, eyes jumping from Dean's to Sam's, "it's a long road to recovery, but this is a good start."
"And what happens if she doesn't wake up?" Sam asks.
"We will do everything in our power to ensure that doesn't happen," the doctor nods.
"Thanks, doc," Sam croaks. "Can - can we see her?" he stutters.
"Of course," he says, pushing the door open with his fingertips, "go on in," he says.
Sam immediately notices Dean's hesitancy when they exchange a glance, so he nods before taking a few steps into the room. He covers his mouth to stifle a sob when he sees his little sister with a tube down her throat and one in her nose. When he's close enough, he reaches for her hand and sits in the chair beside her, startled by the sound of the door shutting. Dean slowly enters the room, but keeps his distance.
Dean feels like the air is void of oxygen and tells himself to pull it together enough to stand by her bed. "Hey kiddo," Dean says to Y/N with a shaky breath. "God, please be okay," he says, forcing a smile as he grips onto her hand.
Tumblr media
The two sit with Y/N for days, only leaving for bathroom trips and snack runs, but when one goes, the other stays, and when one is napping, the other is awake. Dean has grown slightly more self-composed but is still anxious as they stay by her side, even when the nurses come to deliver medications, chart vitals, or empty her catheter.
"Hey, Dean," Sam says, clearing his throat.
"Yeah," he replies, keeping his eyes on Y/N.
Sam looks down into his hands, "about my interview-"
"Wait, what?" Dean says, cutting him off, "you're still gonna leave after all this?" he shouts through a clenched jaw. The chair scoots back in a screech as he quickly brings himself to his feet, "you don't wanna be here when she wakes up?" he asks, aggressively gesturing at Y/N.
"Dean, we don't even know if she'll wake up," Sam quivers.
"Man, you are a piece of work," Dean shouts, shaking his head.
"If you would've let me finish," Sam growls with narrow eyes, "I was going to say that I called earlier… to reschedule it," he sighs, looking back at Y/N, "they were very understanding of the situation."
"Oh," Dean says, turning on his heels to face away from Sam. He swipes a hand down his face, shaking his head when his eyes open to the white walls of the hospital's room. "Look, man, I'm sorry," he says, palms open and facing Sam. "This just has me on edge."
Taking a few steps towards him, Sam holds back the urge to get nasty with Dean, telling him he's not the only one feeling 'on edge' about their sister's condition. Instead, he raises his palms and softens his face, "Me too. Believe me."
Tumblr media
By Thursday, Y/N had graduated from a ventilator to an oxygen mask. Though still needing the feeding tube, she's shown glimpses here and there of the Y/N they know and love, but overall, she struggles to remain conscious. The doctors are calling it a 'Minimally Conscious State' and "completely normal with this type of recovery."
On Saturday, Sam heads out for food from a local restaurant at Dean's request - something about them having good pies - but Sam has a sneaking suspicion that Dean needs some time alone with Y/N, and Sam could use the fresh air anyway.
Sitting in the chair beside her bed, Dean holds one of Y/N's hands in both of his, bringing it up to his lips and kissing the back of her hand. "I'm so sorry I failed you, Y/N," he cries. "I should have been protecting you," he whispers, letting the tears fall freely now, "but instead of doing that, I got you into this mess."
Looking up at Y/N's face, he swears he sees a tear slip down her cheek. Despite being convinced he's imagining it, he reflexively draws his hand to wipe her tear away, gasping when it comes back wet. His heart races as he gently stands to get beside her in the bed. "Shh," he coos, wrapping his arm around her.
His eyes fall shut, and he's transported back in time to the almost seven-month period where she would only fall asleep if Dean were right there in bed next to her. Through tears and voice cracks, he sings Hey Jude in a whisper, occasionally reaching over to wipe her tears away.
"I love you so much," he whispers. "I don't know how to live without you," he says, his tears turning into sobs. "Please wake up," he cries, arm wrapped tightly around her, "I promise I'll teach you how to drive if you just please wake up."

SPN Season 14 Recs
Season 14, the season that had so much potential. As I am in an SPN mood, I'm going to recommend some season 14 fics that I love! Links are in the titles of the fics. Fics are from both Ao3 and FF.
I also added my fics because while I do have a masterlist in my pinned post if anyone is looking for a specific season, they can look here.
More fics may be added later on.

Not All Good News by trevelies
Summary:
"Michael is caged inside Dean's mind for now. But there's grace leaking from the cracks, banging on the doors, and Dean knows what happens at the end of this story. With borrowed (and confusing) Archangel abilities, a group of mistrustful Apocalypse Universe Hunters, and too many Michael Monsters to deal with, Team Free Will 2.0 is ready to clean up the mess that Michael's left behind and stop another apocalypse. Not all the danger is locked inside a bar's walk-in freezer, though - and the Winchesters need to watch out for old and new enemies around every corner.
And at the end of it all, Dean needs to decide how far he'll go to get rid of Michael once and for all."
Gonna Leave a Scar by trevelies
Summary:
"Michael repossesses Dean in Kansas City, and Team Free Will 2.0 isn't exactly on board. It doesn't matter that their only weapon and chance at defeating Michael is currently broken into pieces - family never gets left behind. And that goes double for Winchesters. Sam does a deep dive into Dean's head because he's not letting Dean disappear on his watch, even if it means facing an Archangel on his own turf."
All On You by trevelies
Summary:
"The Spear" speculation. Dean's vision is swimming - literally. But Team Free Will 2.0 has much bigger problems. The angels have finally located Michael, and the Winchesters have Kaia's Spear, an angel and a half, and about three weeks of bad memories to take out on Michael's feathery ass."
The Abyss Gazes Back by Water_of_life
Summary:
"Dean was able to convince Sam to go along with his plan of locking Michael (and Dean) away in the ma'lak box and dumping it in the Pacific Ocean. Sam gave in to Dean then, but he never gave up searching for another way to save Dean and the rest of the world from Michael. Now that a group of deep sea researchers have stumbled upon the box, Sam is about to find out if he put the reprieve to good use, and if they are all ready to face what is coming."

‘Heat of the moment-’
Sam sat up abruptly, awoken by the sudden racket that filled the room. After sitting up groggily and allowing his eyes to adjust to the light he glanced at the clock, hardly noting the time before he turned to his brother who was surprisingly already up and raring to go, having made his bed which he was now perching on as he laced together his boots. He felt the blankets shift around him as you tried to bury yourself into the mattress, bringing the covers over your head to try and block out some of the noise and fall back to sleep.
“Rise and shine, Sammy.”
“Dude.” Sam blinked, swiping his hair from his eyes. “Asia?”
“Come on. You love this song and you know it.”
Sam rolled his eyes and nodded. “Yeah, and if i hear it again, I’m going to kill myself.”
“Be quiet.” You murmured from behind the sheets, squeezing your eyes shut and rolling over. You knew it wasn’t going to happen but you were trying to cling onto the idea of getting more than 4 hours of sleep for once.
Dean took a break from trying his shoes to reach over and turn the dial on the radio. The song blasted louder from the speakers. He raised his voice with a grin “What? I’m sorry, I can’t hear you.”
Sam let out a light chuckle, still bleary with sleep as you sighed and sat up. Dean was still grinning at you before he began to mouth along to the words of the song. You shook your head at him before hauling yourself up and making your way to the bathroom to get ready for the day.
~
Dean had decided that he was going to be annoying today. You weren’t sure if it was because he didn’t want to go on the hunt and he was trying to delay it or something or if it was simply because he was being Dean. You decided on the latter because his keenness to be up and ready this morning was unusual. It started with the gurgling when he was brushing his teeth. Then, just as the three of you were about to leave, despite being up before either of you he had forgotten his pistol leaving you and your other brother standing impatiently by the door while he rooted around the motel room for it. He was irritating in the car too and you were itching to jump out of the Impala, praying for the day to end.
The diner was hardly busy when Dean pulled into the driveway. There were only a few cars belonging to passers by occupying the spaces. After securing your pistol in the pocket of your jacket the three of you headed inside. You decided to stick close to Sam; you had an odd feeling about this hunt and weren’t entirely sure what it was but something just wasn’t sitting right with you. Your brothers entered one of the booths and you slid down beside Dean who let out a content sigh as he scanned the menu.
“Hey, tuesday. Pig in a poke.” he read, gesturing to the sign.
“Do you even know what that is?” Sam raised an eyebrow.
The eldest brother opened his mouth to answer only to fall short of his words. Sam gave him a smug look and then pair fell into some sort of childish bickering that you weren’t really paying attention to. You were too busy scanning every inch of the room still unable to shake that uneasy feeling from your mind. Something just wasn’t right. Everything seems so…perfect. It made your skin crawl and you bit your lip.
“Hey.” Sam nudged you under the table with his knee, he had noted the way that you had gone silent and that you were fiddling with your hands restlessly. He knew almost straight away that something was up. You twisted to face him. “You okay?”
“Yeah. yeah.” You muttered. “Sorry.”
You nearly let out a sigh of relief when the waitress came over and distracted your brother's attention away from you. You hated the way that they stared when they were concerned about you. The three of you rattled off your orders before Dean leaned back in the chair, stretching his arm back behind you to lounge about as you all discussed the plan, only interrupted once by the waitress bringing your food and accidentally spilling a bottle of hot sauce which tumbled to the floor and smashed into tiny pieces.
The rest of the day passed by quickly after that.
~
You did not like the look of the so-called ‘mystery spot’. It was all overly commercialised, filled to the brim with strange and amusing objects that stuck out at odd angles or were glued to the ceiling. The darkness of the room mixed with the obscurity of the place made it come across as quite disorientating. You supposed that was the point. Your strange feeling from this morning was still lingering. You and Dean moved around with flashlights as Sam waved around the EMF. But it was silent.
“Find anything?” You asked.
Sam shook his head.
“Do you have any idea what you’re looking for?” Dean said rather loudly. He was still set on the idea that this hunt was a complete waste of time and had decided to make it everyone else's problem.
“Uh… yeah.” Sam shrugged until you gave him a look and he dropped his shoulders. “No.”
It wasn’t long after you set off to explore again that Dean’s gun was being cocked. Somehow someone had managed to catch you off guard, causing the three of you to whip around alarmed when his shaky voice boomed through the room.
“What the hell are you doing here?!” He demanded. The man was small and scrawny and would normally be no match against Winchesters, but he was wielding a gun that he didn’t seem to know how to use and his unstable finger was hovering dangerously close to the trigger.
“Woah. We can explain.” Dean started, raising his gun in surrender and gesturing for the two of you to follow suit.
The man moved his weapon uncertainly. “You robbing me?”
“No.” You told him. “Nobody’s robbing you, calm down.”
Dean began to lower his gun, but this only wound the man up more.
“Don’t move!” He demanded. “Don’t!”
“I’m just putting the gun down.” Dean tried to reassure him, but the man was having none of it.
He raised his gun, but before he fired he spotted you moving out of the corner of his eye.
Sam, as worrying of a brother as ever, gestured with a tilt of his head for you to move toward him. He knew that you were perfectly capable of protecting yourself, but it made him feel ten times better to know that you were hidden behind his lumbering frame, especially given the recent circumstances that had resulted in so much loss between the three of you. Your movement however, combined with Dean’s haste to put down his gun startled the man and with a fast flick of his arm he had pulled the trigger.
No one had any time to think before your pained scream filled the room. It was quick and short as the bullet lodged itself within your chest and you collapsed to the ground, writhing with an agony so intense that it made white spots dance in your vision like little stars.
“Y/N!” Sam cried out, moving quickly to bridge the short distance to your side where you lay in pain on the cold ground. Sam slid an arm around your back as your other brother dropped to his knees next to you, hovering his hand over your chest where blood had already begun to pool through and seep into your shirt. He was frozen with terror unsure what to do at the sight of your pained expression or the way that your hands clutched feebly at the hem of Sammy’s jacket.
“Call 911.” Sam demanded, turning to face the man who stood there white as a sheet.
“I-I didn’t mean-”
“Now!” Dean yelled.
You whimpered at the yelling. It cuts through your already pounding head adding to the concoction of your agony. You couldn’t see straight, couldn’t hear properly, couldn’t feel anything besides the burning fire in your chest that spread through your lungs like a disease. Your head lolled back against Sam’s arm as you began to taste metallic copper in your mouth, slowly drowning on your own blood that had filled your lungs.
“No. No” Sam said as you writhed in his arms, glancing up bleary eyed at him. Dean pressed down firmly on the wound, and it hurt more than anything but you couldn’t bring yourself to even whine at the contact.
“Come on sweetheart.” Dean pleaded. “Not like this.”
You could see his lips moving but it sounded like he was underwater as your body began to grow numb and your vision slowly faded. You tried to blink away the spots that consumed your vision, but it was no use and your eyes ended up fluttering shut just as your ragged breaths slowed before stopping altogether until you lay morbid limp in your big brother's arms.
~
‘Heat of the moment-’
Sam sat up abruptly, awoken by the sudden racket that filled the room. After sitting up groggily and allowing his eyes to adjust to the light he glanced at the clock, hardly noting the time before he turned to his brother. He had been here before. He realised suddenly, but this time his older brother was not lacing his boots. Instead he was stood at the foot of the bed, staring at the space beside Sam. He felt the blankets shift around him as you tried to bury yourself into the mattress, bringing the covers over your head to try and block out some of the noise and fall back to sleep. Sam stared at you, startled. He could have sworn that just a moment ago you were-
“Rise and shine, Sammy.” Dean said, with much less enthusiasm as he had before. His little brother furrowed his brows.
“Dean…?”
“I know. Is it just me or are you getting a serious sense of deja-vu?”
He nodded in agreement.
“Be quiet.” You murmured from behind the sheets, squeezing your eyes shut and rolling over. You knew it wasn’t going to happen but you were trying to cling onto the idea of getting more than 4 hours of sleep for once.
The Winchesters shared a look. Man, something strange was happening and whatever it was, you clearly weren’t feeling the same thing they were.
~
The diner was exactly the same as it had been the last time the two brothers were here. You were still looking around with the same uncertainty as you were before and you even ordered the same thing as you did before and so did Dean. Tuesday’s special. Pig in a poke.
“It’s tuesday?” He said uncertainly to himself.
You stared at him blankly as if it was the most obvious thing in the world “Yeah.”
Sam eyed you strangely and you raised a brow.
“You okay?”
“Peachy.” He replied, leaning across the table. “Are you?”
Narrowing your eyes at the pair of boys you asked. “Okay. What’s going on with you two?”
“What?”
“Are you sure you’re feeling okay?”
“You don’t…you don’t remember any of this?” Sam asked you
“Remember what?”
“This. Today. Like it’s happened before.” Dean.
“You mean like Deja Vu?” You frowned.
“No like it’s really happened before.” Sam stressed. “If it feels like we’re living yesterday all over again.”
“Deja Vu.”
“No. Forget about that. Its-
The conversation was once again cut off by the waitress who was delivering the food. And once again she sent the hot sauce toppling. But this time, Sam caught it before it could hit the ground.
You gave him a charismatic grin. “Nice reflexes.”
The rest of the day did not pass by quickly after that.
Your brothers were trying to explain the situation to you, while theorising themselves. It was safe to say that at first you were completely lost, but were halfway to believing them when it happened.
The car came from nowhere, speeding around the corner. It collided harshly with your unsuspecting body sending you skidding across the asphalt. By the time your brothers had reached you, a trail of blood trickled down your face from the wounds that were opened as your skin ran across the floor. Dean nearly choked on the sight of your pained and bloodied face as he reached you but you were dead before he had even lifted you into his arms.
And then, there it was again. That wretched song, screaming from the radio.
‘Heat of the moment-’
Sam sat up abruptly, awoken by the sudden racket that filled the room and muttered one single phrase.
“Son of a bitch.”
The rest of the day did not pass by quickly after that. In fact, it never seemed to end.
~
Sam was getting angry now. No. That's not really the right word to describe it. He was frustrated. Tired. Scared. Dean was angry. And growing impatient. But both of them could not bear to live another tuesday. They couldn’t bear to see you fine one second and then dying the next. They had lived through at least a hundred tuesdays, had scanned every inch of the diner, the town, the mystery spot, they had followed the people from the diner and had even tried to keep you in the motel room but no matter how hard they tried they were forced to watch you die again.
The worst part was that you were clueless.  Sam and Dean had to re-explain the ordeal to you everytime they woke up to that stupid song again, leaving you back at square one. They had lived through the day so many times that it had gotten to the point where they could both predict your sentences word for word and while it freaked you out, their patience was wearing thin.
Until finally, something changed. Dean had asked the woman he kept bumping into to see her flyer. They finally had a lead. So, the next time Tuesday morning rolled around, they felt hopeful as they filed off the information to you.
“When’d you get time to do all that research?” you asked through a mouthful of food.
Dean did not have the energy to answer, so he just stood, rolling his eyes. “Let’s go. We’re wasting time here.”
That was when Sam spotted it. The sticky, pink syrup sat in the dispenser next to the half eaten pancake. He frowned, stopping suddenly. When you noticed his absence you turned and asked him what was wrong.
Sam watched the man leave through the slats in the blinds. “That guy has maple syrup for the last 100 tuesdays, now all of a sudden he’s having strawberry?
“It’s a free country, Sammy. A man can’t choose his own syrup now? What have we become?”
“Not in this diner.” Sam shook his head. “Not today.”
“Nothing in this place ever changes. Ever. “ Dean told you. “Except us.”
~
The two brothers nearly lost their shit when they woke up again, but by the time they had suffered through the morning routine and had reached the diner they had come up with a plan.
There were no conversations during breakfast. The pair left you to ponder over your own thoughts after mentioning the idea of a time loop. Any of your questions went unanswered as they stared down the man, jumping into action when he rose, pushing the stool out with an ear splitting squeal and making his way to the parking lot.
Dean gripped the man firmly, forcing him against the fence by the scruff of his neck and silencing his protests. “We know who you are. Or should I say what?”
You watched very confused from the side.
“Oh my god-” the man begged, wide eyed. “Please don’t kill me!”
“Uh, Boys-”
“It took us a hell of a long time, but we got it.” Sam seethed.
“What?!”
“It’s your M.O that gave you away.” He continued. “Going after pompous jerks, giving them their just deserts. Your kind loves that, don’t they?”
“Yeah. Sure. Okay! Just put the stake down!” He pleaded, side eyeing the weapon that Sam pressed to his neck. Sam refused to move.
“Sammy, maybe you should-”
“No!” He yelled at you. The tone of his voice was so unexpected for Sam that you recoiled. “There’s only one creature powerful enough to do what you’re doing. Making reality out of nothing, sticking people in time loops- In fact, you’d pretty much have to be a god.”
“You’d have to be a trickster.” Dean spat.
“Misters…” The man pleaded shakily with tears in his eyes “My name is Ed Coleman. My wife’s name is Amelia- I’ve got two kids! For crying out loud I sell ad space!”
“Don’t lie to me! I know what you are!” Sam shouted into his face.
“We’ve killed one of your kind before.”
There was a heavy paused before the grey hair and wrinkles on the man before you morphed into the all familiar face of the trickster you and your brothers had run into not too long ago.
He smirked and your brothers’ faces dropped. “Actually, you didn’t.”
“Why are you doing this? Why her!?” Sam pressed, digging the stake into his neck.
“You’re kidding?” The trickster replied “You all tried to kill me last time. Why wouldn’t I do this? Why not make you three suffer.”
“So this is funny to you? Killing her over and over again?” Dean gritted his teeth.
“One- yes, it is fun. And two -this is so not about killing Y/N. This joke is on you two. I mean… come on. How great has it been to watch you to see her being torn apart again and again. Watching your sister die everyday. Forever.”
“You son of a bitch.”
The trickster smiled. “How long will it take you to realise you can’t save your sister, no matter what.”
“Oh yeah? We kill you, this ends now.” Sam growled.
“Woah. Okay, look. I was just playing around. You can’t take a joke, fine. You’re out of it. Tomorrow you’ll wake up and it’ll be wednesday. I swear.”
“You're lying. “
He shrugged. “If I am, you know where to find me.”
~
“But you better promise me, I’ll be back in time-”
Sam sat up abruptly, awoken by the sudden racket that filled the room. After sitting up groggily and allowing his eyes to adjust to the light he glanced at the clock, hardly noting the time before he… made a double take. The small three letter panel now read ‘WED’
Sam couldn’t contain the gasp that fell from his lips. “It’s wednesday!”
“Yeah…?” You said from across the room where you were rummaging though your bag. “Which usually comes after Tuesday. Turn that crap off, would you?” you asked him.
“No. Leave it on.” Dean interjected. He agreed with Sam. If he heard Asia one more time he was going to kill himself. “Isn’t that the most beautiful song you’ve ever heard?”
“...No. Jesus, how many Tuesdays did you guys have?”
“You don’t wanna know.” Dean sighed. “Wait..what do you remember.”
“I remember you two being pretty whacked out yesterday. And then i remember running into the trickster. S’bout it really.”
“Right. Whatever. Lets get out of here.” Sam said as he pulled on a shirt.
“What? No breakfast?” You asked, slightly upset that you were going to miss out on the diner food you had quite enjoyed yesterday.
“No breakfast.”
~
Sam and Dean were still inside when they heard it. The unmistakable pop of a gun being fired. You were outside loading the last of your things into Baby and-
Sam's heart sank.
“Y/N!” He cried, dropping what he was doing and racing down the stairs towards you.
The offender fled the moment the gunshot had sounded and your two brothers could see him rounding the corner, but their concern was on you, sprawled out across the floor in a pool of your own blood.
They shook you, crying out your name but you didn’t move. Your heart had stopped beating.
“No. This isn’t supposed to happen today.” Sam squeezed his eyes shut tight, only to nearly cry when he opened them again and you were still lying lifelessly in his brothers clutch. “We’re supposed to wake up.”
And then, he began to cry.
Part 2 may be coming…I’ll add it to my to do list

Save Yourself - Chapter 18

So We Won't Have To Keep Them All Inside
Dean Winchester x Female Reader
Helllloooo! I am so sorry for the super long hiatus. I hadn't planned that, but life got very bleh and uninspiring and stressful. Despite the next few chapters being the main part of the story I've been wanting to write I had a bit of self doubt in my ability to keep going. But it's here and hopefully on a slightly more consistent bases. If you haven't read this series then I will simply say I'm writing such a big fic because it's very much my Dean Winchester story. It's the one that has lived in my head so long, that has been thought about and rethought about so much that it makes the whole thing daunting. But my brain is back on this fic train and I'm hoping to finish it off by the end of the year. As always shout out to my tag list, you've been so patient and I hope you're as excited to read the next chapters as I am to write them. Much love 💙💙💙
Series Summary: “I promise.” Those two words would trap you in a life you never wanted. You are an artist, a hunter, a Winchester. And yet the pain in Dean’s eyes as demanded you live the life he wants you live, you couldn’t say no. You met the Winchesters by chance, found out they were real people. And you figured it was a once in a life time thing, but then Dean called you, and so did a new job. Both leading to the life you wanted, a family that didn’t begin or end in blood and a once in a life time love. And he said leave it and him behind, forget. But you can’t. Chapter Summary: The family trip to Dodge city was meant to be fun for the whole family… And it was, until it wasn’t. With Dean finally coming around on the idea of Jack not being outright evil, a bystander getting killed threw a monkey wrench into everything. And then there’s Claire; determined to be a hunter, to do it all alone until she realizes that having someone by her side is helpful. Warnings: Cannon typical violence, some fluff, some sad feels
A few days later
You all had managed to make it home in one piece. Jack was distraught and none of you knew how to help him. Death was an unfortunate part of living, and an unavoidable part of hunting. And how could you even begin to explain that to someone who’s been alive for a matter of weeks?
“I understand why you like the kid.” Dean says softly, “but I think we need to cool it with the training for a minute.” He gently slides his hand into yours, giving it a small squeeze.
“I just want him to see the world we fight for. To see what you and Sammy do is important.” You give him a meek smile.
“I know, sweetheart.” He kisses your temple, pulling you into his arms. “And you will. You make Sam and I believe in the Family Business all the time.” He chuckles.
You watch as the sleepy little town of Lebanon, Kansas rolls by; the sun is shining, crows flying through the air and baby roaring down the road. It’s amazing how the world rambles on, no matter the tragedy or joy that’s happening… Your phone buzzes in your pocket and you quickly fish it out to see a string of texts from Sammy.
“Jack isn’t taking it well.” You sigh, rubbing your eyes. Dean glances at you everyone once in a while, watching as you pull your lip in between your teeth and biting at the skin.
That’s not good. Dean thinks to himself.
“We’ll work through it.” He reassures you as he pulls up to the bunker. He swiftly glides the Impala into the garage, parking her right next to your little blue Subaru. He turns to open the door when he feels your hand on his thigh.
“You mean that?” You ask. He fully turns to you, eyes searching yours as much as yours are searching his.
“Ya.” He nods, taking a deep breath. “This case,” His gaze moves past you, eyes looking at something you can’t see. “It’s dug up a lot of memories of people I couldn’t save.”
“Dean-”
“Not— not in a bad way sweetheart, just a reminder.” He gently cups one of your cheeks, thankful you are not one of those people. Not yet. He shakes the intrusive thought from his mind, bringing his other hand up to your cheek. “And we’ll help Jack get past this.” He brings his lips to yours, pouring every ounce of love he can into the kiss. The heat of your lips warms his body head to toe, a little bit of hope seeping back into his bones. Hope that this small bump in the road is all it is.
“And as fun as Dodge City was, I think you and I need some time alone.” Dean hums in your ear, placing a gentle kiss on your neck.
“Okay Romeo.” You giggle, playfully swatting at him. Your phone rings out and you gently pull away, earning a pitiful whine from your husband. “It’s Claire.” You sigh.
“Fine.” He playfully rolls his eyes as he slides back to his side of the car.
“Hey what’s up?”
“I need you to come help me with this case.” She blurts.
“I’m doing fine. Little stressed, how are you?” You roll your eyes. Dean flashes a smile as he gets out of the car, grabbing the bag of groceries and walking inside.
“Hi (Y/N). How are you? You wanna come on a hunt with me?” She pointedly repeats. “I could use the girl power, and a Winchester. Which you happen to be both…” A sudden wave of voices drowns out her words.
“Where are you?” You frown.
“Bar, about an hour away from Omaha.”
“Nebraska?” You scrunch your nose, sliding out of the car. “We’re kinda dealing with that baby situation still, and Dean’s finally….” As you put your hand on the door the lights in the garage flicker.
“(Y/N)?” Claire asks.
“Let me call you back.” The words slowly tumble out as you hang up, feet moving faster than your brain as you appear in the doorway to the war room. “What in sam hill happened?” You ask, running over to Dean.
“Jack’s gone.” Dean grunts as he stands, turning to help Cas.
“What?” You frown.
“Jack thinks he’s a monster.” Cas sighs as he plants himself in the nearest chair.
“What did Claire need?” Dean asks, leaning against the war table.
“Wanted help on a case.” You check him over as you direct your question to Sammy. “How are we going to find him? He can’t be out there alone.” Your mind starts to race with all the possible ways he could get hurt, or how he could accidentally hurt someone.
“Baby.” Dean pulls you back to face him.
“There’s so much that could happen.” You whisper, the terror rising in your voice.
“Sweetheart.” He says firmly, squeezing your hands to get you to take a breath. “Go to Claire.” You open your mouth to protest but he shoots you a look, happy when your mouth snaps shut. “You help Claire, I’ll find Jack.”
“Call me -”
“When I find anything.” He nods, pulling you into his chest. “Gotta keep the kids alive.” He whispers in your ear.
“And you thought we didn’t have any kids.” You laugh.
“Should have known you’d get your way.” Dean chuckles, placing a kiss in your hair. “Be careful.” He whispers.
“I’m not the one who gets visits from Death on the norm.” You slap his back. “I will though… as long as you are too.”
“Promise.”
_______
The diner bell dings as you enter; It’s a little busy, but not much more than any of the ones back home. You wave to the waitress and pick up a couple of menus, sliding into the booth where Claire is sat. The waitress brings two mugs and a fresh pot of coffee, pouring each of you a cup before attending to the other patrons.
“We’re dealing with a nest of Vamps.” She begins.
“Why yes, the drive was good. Not much traffic, lot of semi trucks though.” You cock an eyebrow at her. She gives you a nod, letting a small sigh escape.
“Good. How’s the old man?” she asks, managing to keep the eye roll small. “ And Sam?”
“They’re good. Trying to track down that baby… who’s not actually a baby like we thought.” You frown, pouring a couple of creamers into your coffee.
“You guys always have the weirdest cases.” She shakes her head, taking a large gulp of her black coffee.
“Last name is Winchester. Pretty much a magnet for weird.” You pick the menu up, trying to read the specials but your eyes can’t seem to read any of the words. You check your cell. Nothing.
“Your volume is on-.” Claire grits her teeth as a notification dings. “If they found anything you would know.”
“Ya, well, if you ever disappear like this I would worry just the same.” You sigh. “Why did you need me on this hunt anyways?” You ask, taking a sip of your coffee.
“Can’t believe you drink it like that…” Claire looks at your mostly cream coffee in utter disgust.
“If I wanted criticism on how I take my coffee I would go find Lucifer.” You mutter.
“Like I said, I need a Winchester.” Claire reiterates. “Being a young female hunter has it's disadvantages.” Her eyes move to the door. “And Dean always tells the two of us to travel in pairs…”
You turn to see a pair of men walk in; they look like brothers, maybe a few years apart, dressed in standard issue hunter FBI suits. Ah, that’s why she didn’t want Dean.
“Brought a friend.” The older one smirks, sliding in next to you.
“(Y/N), Jason and Nick Clayton.” Claire gestures to the two. "We ran into each other while tracking one of the vamps."
“Pleasure.” You stick your hand out to Nick, the older one. “(Y/N) Winchester.” Before your name has even fully left your mouth both their jaws hit the floor. You glance at Claire, who simply shrugs.
“(Y/N) Winchester... like the one who killed Rasputin?” Jason asks.
“Killed– Dude she’s the one who took on the Devil AND GOD.” Nick exclaims.
“And freed so many trapped spirits in that haunted college–”
“And had an angel wipe her memory only for it not to work!”
You and Claire look at each other, the same look of bewilderment on your faces.
“Ok, cut the crap. It’s not like she’s famous.” Claire rolls her eyes.
“Not famous?” Nick scoffs. Claire looks over at you, her jaw clenching so hard that she’s about to break all her teeth.
“It’s because I’m Dean’s wife.” You shrug.
“What?” The brothers say in unison.
“No way. You’re not his wife. He’s your husband.” Jason clarifies.
“Lucky bastard.” Nick winks. You scoff at the absurd notion that you are more famous than Dean.
“Wow… Let’s move on from the fangirling ok?” Claire scrunches her nose in irritation.
"Now I know how Dean felt when we first met." whisper to her. "But yes, let's get this show on the road." You gesture for her to take the floor, letting her explain the current vampire problem in the area.
_______
“(Y/N)!” Claire yells as a vamp pins her to the floor. She squirms underneath him, her vision blurring as his hands close tighter around her throat. In the blink of an eye his head is gone, blood splattering her in the face.
“Thought you said you could take him?” You grin, offering your hand to her.
“Shut up.” She slaps your hand away, jumping to her feet.
“You ladies move fast!” Nick shouts as he takes out another vamp.
“Looks like it’s a party now.” You announce as the rest of the nest files inside.
“Let’s do this.” Jason grins. One vamp rushes Claire and in one clean swing his head is on the floor. Another rushes you, taking a swing of your pipe to the stomach before getting their head chopped off.
“Pipe!” Claire yells, holding her hand out. You slap it into her palm, unsheathing your machete for another vamp as she takes the head off another. The four of you stand back to back, waiting for another wave or for someone to move.
“You know, this thing is really handy.” She breaks the silence, spinning the pipe in her hand before handing it back to you.
“Winchester original?” Nick asks.
“Saw it in a video game, thought I would give it a try.” You laugh, wiping some of the vamp guts off the knives taped to the top of it.
“We’re fucking awesome.” Claire scoffs as she slowly turns in a circle to look at all the dead vamps..
“Hell ya.” You hold your fist up and she bumps it.
“Where to next?” Jason asks.
“How about food? And sleep?” You grab Claire by the neck and lead everyone out of the barn. “And a shower. The vamps seemed extra bloody today.” You attempt to shake off some of it, but to no avail.
The two boys get in their car and you and Claire climb into hers.
"You ok?" You ask.
"Are you Kidding? We just had the coolest fight." She snorts, leaning against the steering wheel with a grin on her face.
"I meant about the fan club." You correct. "This was meant to be your hunt, not a Winchester spectacle." Not that I ever expected to be a spectacle...
"Kinda why I wanted you here." She mumbles, glancing at your sky high eyebrows. "It proved that I know what I'm doing... and that I have back up." You nod, watching as the trees whip past.
"Prove to who?" You ask, looking down at the dry vamp blood on your thighs. You see her body go rigid, hands firmly gripping the wheel.
"Me..." She answers after a moment. "... Jody."
"We all know you're a great hunter." You say softly. "It's just... not really the life that anyone wants their loved ones to have." You look over at her; she's got a bloody lip and a small scratch across her cheek but she still looks too young to be wanting this life. "But we all understand the choice." You smile at her. She smiles at you, relaxing into her seat as she speeds back to the motel.
_______
“Ya… thanks man.” Jason hangs up the phone, turning to the group. “Looks like we got the main nest. Hunters in the next county found a few stragglers but nothing else.”
Claire and Nick nod, talking about where else they could look. Their voices fade into the background, you mind racing with possible answers as to why-
“(Y/N?).” Claire whispers, gently touching your arm.
“Ya?”
“You ok?” Jason asks, sharing a look with his brother.
“I haven’t heard from Dean–”
“They’re fine.” Claire reassures, standing up from the table.
“It’s been three days… something’s wrong.” You sigh, looking out the window.
“This is why you shouldn’t fall in love. All you end up doing is worrying.” Claire glares.
“Little worry is good.” Jason smiles.
“You don’t worry about anyone?” Nick prods, earning an icy glare.
“I haven’t heard from Cas or Sam either.” Your frown deepens.
“Wait, what?” Claire frowns. Dean tends to be hyper focused on hunting, but all three of them not keeping in touch? Definitely weird. She watches as you stare out the window, your expression flipping between worried and reprimanding yourself. “Maybe they don’t have cell service. Or they jumped in a lake with their phones again.” She shrugs.
“I’m sure they’re fine.” Jason pats your shoulder. “Unfortunately we have to head out.”
“Family calls.” Nick agrees. You quickly exchange info, telling both of them if they need anything to call. You walk them to the door, watching as they drive off in Nick's 1967 Mustang.
“They seemed nice enough.” You shrug, taking a seat next to her on the bed.
“They were.” Claire nods. You wait for her to elaborate, watching as she studies her fingernails.
“So why call for backup?” Claire sighs, slamming her laptop closed and looking at you.
“Jody and Alex bond over helping people in normal ways.” She takes a deep breath in. “And I haven’t had that with anyone except you and Dean.”
“Sounds like you wanted some family-”
“I don’t need a family.” She states, the walls behind her eyes slowly building.
“Maybe not, but you have one.” You point out. “I don’t know what it’s like to be you Claire. But I do know you can’t keep everything inside.” You gently take her hand. “If Sam and Dean show you anything, it's that family can put you through hell, but they can also pull you out.”
Her phone buzzes loudly, you can’t see who’s calling but by the eye roll you have a good guess.
“Jody?”
“Ya. Although she already called in her weekly attempt to make me come back…” She mutters, moving her hand over the ignore button.
“Answer it.” You shout.
“Why? I already know what she-“
“Please.” You whisper. Her big doe eyes study you for a moment, and she answers.
“We’re on our way.” She tells Jody, grabbing her backpack and dragging you with her.
_______
24 hours later
“You ate a lizard?” You scrunch your nose in disgust.
“Not much else over there.” Dean chuckles against your neck.
“Claire should have stayed out here, your PDA would make her sick and she’d be back to herself in no time.” Alex playfully jabs as she grabs all her work stuff.
“Haha.” You give her a small wave as she leaves. When the door clicks shut Dean moves you into his lap, hands caressing your legs.
“Dean…” You half heartedly push his hands away. His finger ghosts over the big bandage on the side of your leg. You helped the girls save him and Sam, managing to limp away with only a gash in your leg.
“Missed you sweetheart.” He mumbles, bringing his lips to yours.
“Missed you too.” You mumble back. He breaks the kiss, keeping his forehead against yours.
“Too close for both of us.” He states.
“Still thinking about you eating lizards.” you poke back.
“I mean it.” He takes a deep breath in, slowly letting his heart beat slow down. “To think about what could have happened.” He wraps his arms tightly around you, burying his face into your hair.
“I would rather not think about it.” You gently rub his back. “Spend too many hours doing that already.” You look out the screen door, watching as Donna, Sam and Jody laugh about something.
“Ugh, Alex was right. You too are gross.” Claire groans from the hall.
“Glad to see it puts your usual attitude back in place.” You chuckle, unraveling from Dean to look at her. She shrugs, plopping into the recliner. “You heading out?” you tentatively ask. Her eyes are puffy, hair scraped back into a ponytail.
“Think I might hang around here for a while… for Jody. And Alex.” She flashes a small smile.
“Good.” Dean nods.
“Embrace your people while they’re here.” You smile at her.
“No good to keep everything inside.” She nods, picking at her nails. The screen door screeches as Sam walks in, taking a seat next to you and Dean.
”Well on a completely unrelated note, I am apparently more famous than you among hunters.” you poke Dean in the chest.
Dean whips his head back so fast he hits the wall behind the couch.
“Nice.” Sam chuckles.
“How?” Dean frowns. You just laugh, shaking your head and giving him a kiss.
“I mean… you are the prettiest Winchester.” Dean chuckles.
“Dean! You can’t say that when Sam is here!” You laugh.
“Ok, you guys are the worst.” Sam shakes his head and walks back outside.

Dean woke up abruptly to his phone ringing. At first he thought it was his imagination and he closes his eyes to re-picture the girl he was having fun with in his dream. However, the wretched sound repeats itself, pounding into his head like a migraine. He felt around on the covers irately looking for his phone. A grumble leaves his lips as he throws his legs over the side of the bed. A soft glow lights up beside his feet and he could feel the vibrations through the floor as the device blares on with that infuriating ring. He picks it off the ground and answers without looking at the Caller ID.
"What do you want?" He asks gruffly.
"Dean," a girl cries from the other end, "please don't be mad."
"(Y/n), what the hell? It's like 1:30 in the morning-"
"Can you please pick me up?"
        "What are you talking about?"
"I left the bunker without you or Sammy's permission."
"Then I'm sure you can manage the problem on your own," he said after a short thought. He was about to hang up out of spite until his sister began to sob on the other end. "Alright," he sighs, "I'm on my way. Where are you?"
---
A smile reaches (y/n) Winchester's face as she looks around at all of the people. Music booms into her skull and neon lights paint the bodies of everyone in the room. The abandoned barn was quite claustrophobic and she had to be careful not to bump into any of the dancing duos.
She will admit, she was nervous to come when the Gothic girl at the gas station told her about it. Mostly, it was because she's never really done anything without her protective brothers right in tow. Of course, She's been to places like this when her brothers wanted to relax, but she has never experienced it by herself.
Although, her stomach continually tightens from the separation, excitement bubbles over that anxiety. She wanders around like a lost puppy, in awe with everything that her eyes cross, and finds herself at the snack bar. She grabs one of the plastic cups and fills it halfway with the red drink presented in the punch bowl.
"Hey there," a boy says, coming up behind her. "Let's dance." His breath reeked of alcohol.
"No thank you," (Y/n) politely says, unwrapping his arms from her waist. She begins to leave until a force knocks her against the table. Her beverage falls to the ground, staining the rotten wood with a deep brown.
"That wasn't a question," the boy sneers into her ear. He begins to grind against her legs, laughing as he sees tears stinging at the edge of her eyes. "It'll be quick," he mumbles, his hot breath leaving goosebumps to run along her neck.
"Leave me alone," (Y/n) yells and swings her fist into his nose. Blood specks around her knuckles and she notices the boy holding his face, red spilling between his fingers.
Anger flares withing his eyes as he looks at her. (Y/n)'s body trembles under his gaze. She bolts towards the entrance, hearing the boy trail behind her as she races through the crowd. "You're dead-" His voice is muffled by the speakers.
(Y/n) struggles to get her phone out as she makes it to the open double doors. She scrolls through her contacts as she races to the side of the barn. She traces along the wooden grey wall, dirt collecting on her finger tip. She decides to hide under a couple of planks propped against the barn and holds the phone to her ear. "Dean, please don't be mad."
---
Headlights glare into (Y/n)'s hiding hole as the Impala pulls up beside the building. The young Winchester scurries out and walks over to the driver's side door. Dean didn't bother looking at her through the rolled down window; he kept his eyes ahead of him with a bored expression.
        "Dean, I-"
        "Just get in the car."
The Impala soon rolls off the dirt path that leads out of the farmland. Dean turns onto the main road and passes a glance at (Y/n).
"Mind telling me why you thought it was a good idea to sneak out?" Dean asks in a serious tone. His sister shrugs in return. "You don't know? Then why the hell did you do it? Do you know how dangerous that is- what if something happens and me or Sammy don't have any idea where you are! Have you thought about that?" Dean raises his voice.
"Why can't you just leave me be," (Y/n) mutters, leaning against her palm and staring out the window.
        "What was that?"
"Why can't you just leave me be." The girl repeats loudly, turning to face her brother.
"Huh, I wonder why? We fight the Supernatural for a living, (Y/n). You know better than to ask that. It's for your safety."
"It's not my fault I was born into this stupid family," She suddenly yells out. The car ride becomes thick with silence and Dean's anger could be felt, pulsating off his body in rapid waves. (Y/n) looks down at her lap in guilt. "I didn't mean that."
        "Sure you didn't."
"It's just that, I never get to experience anything without you or Sammy being protective about it. I wanted to try something without being coaxed out of it."
"Why bother calling then, if you wanted the 'experience'," Dean snaps sarcastically.
        "I was scared..."
"Scared of what?" Dean says with a dry laugh.
"This guy, he tried... he tried to-" a sob wrecks up her throat as she tries to explain the situation that unfolded a few minutes prior. "I-I'm sorry! I didn't know what to do and y-you were the first person who I knew would come rescue me." A large hand falls unto her trembling one and traces along her palm in comfort.
"It's OK. you don't have to say anymore," Dean shushes. (Y/n) interlocks her fingers between his calloused ones and holds on tightly.
"I won't do anything without you permission again," she whispers.
"I know," he smiles softly, "and (Y/n)? Your grounded."

Never Was
Tumblr media
Disclaimer: I do not own supernatural or any characters. If a scene is altered or completely brand new, it is to fit the storyline of Y/N Winchester, Sam and Dean's little sister.
Dean: 35, Sam: 31, Y/N 23
“I may be your mother,” Mary said strictly. “But I am not just a Mom. And you are not a child.”
“I never was,” Dean forced out. Y/N looked up at her eldest brother as he said those words. She had never known much about his childhood, since she wasn’t born until he was fifteen. She looked back at Mary, and then at the floor. Dean’s hand was gripping the back of Y/N's chair as he spoke, and her other brother, Sam, was sitting next to her.
Mary looked like she had been slapped as he spoke, but her stern gaze lingered. “I’ve been playing thirty years of catch-up here,” Mary defended.
“And we’re not?” Dean asked, pointing to his younger siblings. Y/N shifted uncomfortably in her seat, wishing she could be anywhere but here. This was worse than any fight between their father and Dean.
"Mom, we've all lost years," Sam finally broke his silence, his voice soft but steady. "And we've all made sacrifices. It's not just about catch-up."
“I want to live my life outside of being just your Mom,” Mary said. "I want to be someone, not just someone's mother. I hope you can understand that," she finished, her voice trembling slightly as she held Dean's gaze.
“This isn’t simply moving out of the house,” Dean continued. “This isn’t moving in with a boyfriend, or having a one-night stand wounding up with another kid. You’re working with our enemies.”
Y/N could feel the room's temperature drop at Dean's words. The silence that followed was deafening, the tension palpable. She felt Sam stiffen next to her, his gaze locked on their mother. “They have the same intentions the three of you do,” Mary said.
"But they're not us, Mom," Sam said. "And they're not family. We are."
“You want to work with them?” Dean asked, his tone changing. “You want to do all of that, well then there’s the door Mary.” He left the siblings alone as he walked out of the room.
Y/N watched him leave, her heart aching for her family. She glanced at Sam, then at Mary, her young eyes filled with confusion and hurt. "I think... I think I need some air," Sam mumbled, excusing himself and following Dean out.
Y/N didn’t know how to react. She didn’t want to abandon her mother, but she also didn’t want to feel like she was betraying Dean, so she just sat at her chair, and looked at Mary. “You understand right?” Mary asked her.
“I understand you wanting to be more than just a Mom,” Y/N replied carefully. “But out of all people why the British Men of Letters?”
The question hung in the air, heavy with the weight of betrayal. Mary looked at her daughter, her eyes filled with a mixture of regret and determination, but she didn't answer. “Can you at least try to talk to Dean?” Mary pleaded. “I know he listens to you.”
“You want to use me to convince Dean why you’re — and I’m not saying you are — right?” she asked with disbelief.
"I just need him to listen," Mary said, her voice soft and desperate. "And I think you could help with that."
“He’ll know that it was you, Mom,” Y/N replied. “He’ll know that you sent me.”
"And maybe that will make him listen," Mary said, her voice barely above a whisper. "Please, Y/N, we're family. We need to stick together, even when it's hard."
Y/N raised her eyebrow at her. “It’s hard because you made it hard. You chose them, not us.”
With that, she left Mary in the library, following Dean’s trail to his room, and knocked on his door. He didn’t answer, but it wasn’t a no. She pushed the door open gently, and found Dean laying on his bed, staring at the ceiling. He looked at her, then laid his head back down, patting a spot next to him, and scooted over to the left. She laid down next to him after closing the door. “Mom send you over?” Dean asked.
Y/N chuckled slightly. “She tried to,” she admitted. “But I came here because I wanted to. Not because of Mom.”
Dean pet her head slightly. “That’s my girl,” he murmured, his voice thick with emotion. “I don’t mean to say this to pressure you. But you’re the only person who’s never betrayed me, Y/N," Dean continued, his voice barely audible. "And I don't know what I'd do if you ever did."
Y/N knew Dean meant well. And she also knew that Sam has betrayed Dean in the past. So to hear him say those words was not only heartbreaking, but a relief to herself. It made her feel appreciated and important. She knew her relationship with Dean was special, and she would do everything in her power to preserve it. "I mean you did raise me," Y/N replied, her voice soft but firm. "I won't betray you, Dean. Not now, not ever."
“I raised Sam too,” Dean said sadly.
"But Sam and I, we're different," Y/N responded quietly, reaching out to squeeze Dean's hand. "And you know that. I promise, Dean, I'm not going anywhere."
“You’re a good kid, Y/N," Dean replied, squeezing her hand back. "And I'm grateful for you every single day."
Y/N smiled softly at his words. She always felt comforted by Dean's reassurances. "I'm grateful for you too, Dean," she whispered back, her voice filled with sincerity. "Always."
Y/N snuggled closer to Dean, and he wrapped a protective arm around her, rubbing her temple with his thumb gently. She felt safe in his embrace, knowing that no matter what came their way, they would always have each other. "Sleep tight, kiddo," Dean murmured, his voice soothing in the quiet room.
"I'm 23, Dean," she said.
"You're still my little sister," Dean replied.
With a soft sigh, she closed her eyes and let the rhythm of his heartbeat lull her to sleep. Dean stayed awake, continuing to stare at the ceiling. He couldn't shake off the disappointment and betrayal he felt. But as he looked at Y/N, peaceful and trusting, he knew he had to stay strong for her. Even if his own world was crumbling, he would keep hers intact. If anything, she deserved the stability and love he was able to provide. As the night grew darker, Dean promised himself to protect her from the pain, from the betrayals, and from the harsh realities of their lives, as long as he was able to do so. He meant what he said. She’s never betrayed him, never failed him. He wrapped his arm tighter around her. A silent vow echoed in the room - he would never let her down, just as she had never let him down.
