Loki just busting out with "Why would I respect Captain America?" during the cleanup after Avengers 1 but before he's gagged "That nation doesn't treat it's veteran warriors with any respect, and leaves those wounded in war to die of hunger on the streets each winter."
That gets Thor's full attention in the worst way possible and Tony starts talking about the Maria Stark foundation, but Loki just keep stirring the pot about veterans exposed to carcinogens during the Iraq war who can't afford medical care and the political games being played with their benefits package. Clint mentions Jon Stewart and Loki rips the rug out from under them by pointing out that a comedian private citizen from a stigmatized minority religion is the main advocate for something that a warrior culture like Asgard would get done without a single word of debate.
Thor wants to muzzle Loki, but he's distracted by a shouting match about the VFW and how many vets commit suicide so they aren't a burden on their families. Cap agrees completely with Loki and that feels really weird, but Loki's contained and there is a new cause he needs to fight for so he'll work through that later. When Sitwell and the other officials arrive the heavy hitters on the Avenger's team are all ready to spend some political capital on this issue while Loki's quietly explaining to some impressionable peon that he was coerced into acting as he did during the invasion by the owner of the army that attacked, and if they will keep him on earth a while he will happily tell them everything they want to know about Thanos. By the time Stark, Sitwell, and Natasha convince the rest of the team that they need to focus on more immediate issues Loki is already three-quarters of the way through negotiating with the CIA or FBI representatives to exchange the things he knows - both about Thanos and about advanced technology/magic - for a comfortable living arrangement and a full pardon.

REVENANTS-The Odyssey Home: a book review
Author Scott Kaufman honors a real life Vietnam Veteran with a novel about veterans, their families, and the sacrifice they make for our freedom.
REVENANTS-The Odyssey Home By Scott Kauffman Published by Moonshine Cove Publishing, LLC, 2015 When I started this book I didn’t know what revenant means; the author waits until chapter 33 to tell us. “A revenant can be someone long forgotten and now remembered,or someone returning after a long absence; it can also mean a ghost.” Note: the photos in this post are from my private collection…

Empower Women Vets | Warrior Tonya Oxendine | Wounded Warrior Project
Tumblr media
According to the 2021 #AnnualWarriorSurvey, nearly 67% of women warriors WWP serves reported experiencing military sexual trauma (MST). #Veteran Tonya Oxendine shares how MST impacted her life and how she found new strength through our programs which empower female veterans.

The 2021 survey asked WWP warriors about military sexual trauma (MST) in two separate contexts. First, MST was included in a list of possible injuries incurred during service. In this context, 10% of warriors selected MST as an injury they had experienced during service. Later in the survey, warriors were asked again about MST but in more detail surrounding specific experiences. In this context, more warriors reported experiencing MST; 16.3% indicated they had experienced sexual assault or sexual harassment involving military personnel (active duty or Reserve), DoD civilian employees, and/or contractors (of either gender) while in the military.
The VA defines military sexual trauma (MST) as sexual assault or harassment experienced during military service. Sexual harassment is the request for or pressure to engage in sexual favors (i.e., threats of negative treatment, refusal to cooperate, or WWP Talk promises of better treatment in exchange for sex), unsolicited sexual advances, or verbal comments that are sexual in nature. Sexual assault is unwanted sexual contact or activities without your consent, including when you are asleep or intoxicated and being overpowered or physically forced to have sex.28 MST, like any trauma, is associated with a higher likelihood of PTSD, depression, and substance use disorder (SUD).
After 30 years in the Army, Tonya Oxendine retired with the highest enlisted rank as command sergeant major. It was only after she retired that her life started to unravel. She faced post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and anxiety, even after securing a promising new career on the civilian side.
“I was struggling with my mental health and had suicidal thoughts regularly,” Tonya said.
She eventually found female veteran resources in  WWP Talk, a free mental health phone support line provided by Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP). The program provides wounded veterans with free emotional support and tools to help them set and achieve goals.
Tonya started talking with a teammate from WWP Talk and participated in other WWP mental, physical, and financial health programs.
Through WWP Talk especially, Tonya realized how important it is to take care of herself for her own sake. “The truth was, at the time, I didn’t think that I mattered.”
WWP Talk offers individualized emotional support over the phone. Each participant is paired with a WWP Talk partner who will call them at the same day and time each week. They will typically talk for 20 minutes and work through setting goals and finding solutions that fit.
WWP Talk helps veterans like Tonya with PTSD, anxiety, and depression. It lets them know they are not alone.
“When I started talking with my WWP Talk partner, I felt alone and isolated,” Tonya recalled. “But soon I came to look forward to talking with him and took notes on what to share with him in between appointments. I knew he would want to know how I was doing.”
Tonya recalled how her WWP Talk partner changed her outlook with skills she could use “to cope with day-to-day anxiety.” “My WWP Talk partner wasn’t pushy, he just listened,” Tonya said. “Sometimes I would just be crying and even his silent listening was comforting.”
“Thanks to WWP Talk, my counselors, and my mental health providers, I am now able to express myself in ways that can help others, which in turn helps me,” Tonya said.
“WWP Talk is about resilience,” Tonya added. “It helps build resilience and find ways to be happy, better, and healthy. In helping my mental health, I’m going to be able to help other people find happiness.”

NANAIMO — One of the most successful Wounded Warrior Runs is currently making its way down Vancouver Island.
It’s the tenth year participants have raised money and support for veterans, first responders and their families dealing with mental health issues by running over 600 kilometres from Port Hardy to Victoria, travelling between Parksville and Nanaimo on Friday, March 3.
Laurie Grubb, vice president at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 256 in Nanaimo, knows all too well the traumatic effects of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) through her husband, a Vietnam vet who has dealt with the debilitating effects since leaving service.

on the run from a losing game, 8/10
warrior nun, ava silva/sister beatrice, M, chapter 8/10
Beatrice wakes up to the sliver of light from the cracked door faded and cool, a telltale promise of the impending sunset.  Her mouth is dry, her eyes gummy, but there’s a warmth in her stomach she can’t place immediately as she unwraps herself from the pillow she’d curled around and rolls onto her back, blinking up at her ceiling sleepily. It comes back slowly, the way she’d burst out with a confession that should’ve driven Ava away but had instead dragged her closer, the way Ava had kissed her and told her she wants her, the way Ava had set aside her own self-proclaimed want so that she could tuck Beatrice into bed to catch up on sleep. The warmth in her stomach bubbles up into her chest, her throat, spreads along her cheeks.  Ava likes her.  Ava wants her, wants everything Beatrice does, wants the sex and the romance and the next steps forward with her.

Finished Brightheart design sheet.
This was difficult to draw. I spent a long time thinking her design and I tried to search the best way to portray her scars. It was hard to find accurate information in cats, so if anyone who reads this would like to offer some critique or advice I’d love to read it.
More information:
o  Warning: this point contains details about her wounds and mental state, skip this point if you are 14 years old and younger or don’t feel okay reading this stuff, as it is graphic. Proceed with caution. Her right side scars were done while trying to climb a tree to get away from the dogs. Unfortunately though Swifpaw’s sacrifice gave Brightpaw time to react and try to escape, the dogs grabbed her hips from the left side. The rest of the scars were done because she curled on the floor leaving her left side exposed. That way she got heavy bite wounds on her face and torso. He face got the worse part. Both her left eye and ear is gone and some of her upper face was ripped off, thus her left eye socket is assimetrical. While on treatment her face got swollen and was in complete mental shock (Acute stress disorder if she was diagnosed in human standards). After taking her bandages off and a lot of work from Cinderpelt to stabilize her and avoid it from developing into a worse condition, she seemed to get to a better mental state... until she saw her reflection. Since then, both that incident and hearing Bluestar’s assigned name made her relapse and suffer mentally (Post-traumatic stress dissorder).  Later after treatment hair grew back, blending a bit her scars, but not fully. She still has nightmares and can’t bear the thought of dogs, but has learnt to accept her scars and self image and to stop blaming herself for Swiftpaw’s death. This was thanks to early intervention from Cinderpelt and Cloudtail’s emotional support. Firestar recognized her recovery and the pain that her assigned name brought her, and thus changed her name to Brightheart to honor her strength and kindness, as well as her strong will to live and never give up. I don’t have much experience in medical fields and while I did ressearch, I could have got it wrong. I’d appreciate input in that case so I can learn and change it. I take these topics seriously.
o As she got old her ginger patches started to become smaller as white hair grew on them. They also became slightly diluted and desaturated. Small spots from old age appeared on her face scars.
o Just because I’m not sure if it’s very telling, on her elder drawing she’s sleeping on Cloudtail’s back leg and tail. She likes to sleep like that because Cloudtail has a very soft and fluffy tail and gives her comfort.
