thinking about how in nightbringer he's always outside HoL when he wants to be alone since the others are always in the library + they keep chaining him to his bed, so he most likely doesn't feel safe in his own room to begin with

how Asmo keeps trying to invade his personal space (asking to do his hair, nails etc.) and doesn't take the hint, and how Lucifer casted a spell on Satan so he physically could not leave his side for a while, and how he's never really allowed the time to properly work through his emotions

that dinner party where the others all started talking about the Celestial Realm until Satan eventually stormed off

the way he describes being in their presence as torture and refuses to see them as his brothers, yet he's instantly calm around MC because they treat him decently

how the others kept complaining over how the demons of the Devildom were treating them-how they were discriminated against because they're fallen angels-yet they keep on treating Satan, the only full-fledged demon of HoL, like some feral animal that has to be put down in two days

currently thinking about how the very first thing we learn about Satan in the original is that he masks his emotions

him saying that he loves to go on walks alone and how he gets to meet all kinds of different people that way

thinking about how he's usually in the library instead of his room

when they were all up in the human world and the other brothers were outside stargazing, meanwhile Satan stayed inside. And when asked about it by Lucifer, he claimed it was because he wanted to read before offhandedly mentioning that they're reminiscing about the Celestial Realm and he won't understand any of it anyway

he now gets along better with all of his brothers and yet, when the two of them got lost once, he told MC that there's no need to worry, because his brothers would come looking for them, making it a point to add that they wouldn't search for him

that time Satan ran away to the human world and Levi, Asmo (arguably the two brothers closest to him) and MC came to bring him back. How he started getting angry at one of their questions, so they opted for running away instead of even attempting to comfort him in any way

how his first response after Lucifer told him to leave HoL was to actually pack his things; how he was fully intent on leaving, and how when MC comes to check on him, he instantly tells them that his brothers would never stop him from leaving, that they think it's funny

the way he seemed genuienly surprised when MC accepted after he asked them out to the dance, and then admitting he actually thought that they wouldn't want to go with him

MC being his main source for comfort, and Satan even calling them his sanctuary. How before MC it was books and cats; his room being filled to the brim with books, to the point it's become a safety hazard, and him always carrying cat treats with him

currently thinking about how Satan's first instict whenever he gets angry is to isolate himself, if possible even lock himself up in his room for days on end and how his brothers don't seem to pay it much attention (Levi once said that they already had a shut-in, they don't need another one). And how he doesn't even necessarily need to give into his wrath, how simply getting worked up over something someone else said is enough for him to isolate himself

also thinking about the whole idea of 'you become the person that would have saved you when you were younger' and how Satan in the og game is literally so full of love and very kind, patient and compassionate when given the chance to fully be himself

Mass Effect LGBTQ+ representation issues and some headcanons

I've seen a few Mass Effect posts about the sexuality of the trilogy's characters, and I'd like to add my 5 cents, since none of those posts take into account the whole xenophilia aspect of canon relationships. And some of us are here for it. For the aliens. I am here for them. I'm not sorry.

Also, I have to acknowledge the fact that Bioware has made some very questionable choices, and the in-game representation is bad. Like BAD-bad.

I.E.(this list is going to be looong):

All Male Shepard/Kaidan Alenko dialog for ME1 and ME2 was written and fully voiced, but NOT INCLUDED in the final version of the game. And I know that the same thing happened to FemShep/Ashley, but that a bit different because...

The only "gay" romances in ME1 and ME2 are for femShep, and either with a female-representing human-like aliens (who like to dress in tight clothes that emphasize the size of their breasts), or with the equally feminine Kelly Chambers in ME2. Because, you know, guys who buy this game will be more tolerant of two "hot chicks making out" (insert a bunch of mods that make your femShep wear only lingerie and look like a TikTok e-girl) than a more realistic same-sex romance.

Especially when this romance is between two guys. Because ew. Right, Bioware? But you also wanted to sell your games to LGBTQ+ folks, so you installed a…

… so-called "gay button" into your games.

Before ME3, no one except for "hot chicks asari" states their sexuality. You can go through two entire games as a straight character completely surrounded by other completely straight characters. Oh, maybe Kelly likes aliens a little too much, but "who doesn't like asari", right? Even asexual salarians are into them. Sure, a straight woman like femShep…

"Hot chicks making out" really sells those game copies, I guess.

If you think ME3 is better, think again. The only two gay characters in the game are Cortez and Traynor, and they are both supporting characters, who are not even in your squad!

Cortez and his whole "I lost my husband" drama is conveniently placed on the lowest deck of the ship, so if this story offends your bigoted sensibilities, you can just ignore him along with the "dumb jock" Vega who is really unpopular with the players. Is it because he's really friendly with an openly gay character? Oh, who knows?

Meanwhile, Traynor is either mocked (oh, she found EDI voice hot and commented on that! what a shame! awkward lesbians, amirite?) or fetishized (don't get me wrong, Donnelly is funny, but his remarks about Traynor are even more yucky than the way he talks about EDI and lube).

But don't get mad about all this, because all the women in the trilogy are fetishized and heavily sexualized. The best example of this is Samara, whose character design is a war crime.

Bioware made Benezia look horrible (she tried to make Saren change his ways not with her power or wits but with those giant bazooms and the cleavage, I guess), and then they doubled down in ME2 and gave a warrior samurai nun a boob window. A FUCKING BOOB WINDOW. Because boys buy games, and they love boobs, y'know.

Oh, and any inappropriate remarks made by NPCs in the game are directed only at the femShep. Just like the MShenko romance, the male version of the dialog is fully voiced, but conveniently excluded from the game. Because guys can't tell other guys that they look hot in "that soldier getup". That can make bigots uncomfortable.

And let's talk about bi representation, because Bioware apparently hates bisexuals as much as straights and some queers do (trust me, as a bisexual I've experienced both types of hatred, and it's ugly). The only bisexual characters in the game are Kaidan and Diana Allers.

If you're a bigot playing as the maleShep, you can "safely" kill Kaidan on Virmire in the middle of the first game and not have to deal with his uncomfortable love confession at all!

So, yeah, Bigots: 1, Representation: 0. The bisexual is successfully killed, congratulations!

If you play as femShep, you won't even know that Kaidan is/was bi. Because who wants a bisexual guy who is comfortable with his sexuality? You can't sell that kind of romance to the good ladies who buy this game.

Diana Allers romance, meanwhile, is laugh-worthy. If you play as maleShep, you won't even know that she's bi. And if you're femShep, this romance is as insignificant as the one with Kelly, you won't even get an achievement for it! You can also kick her out of your ship without any consequences, so she will be KIA offscreen. You will find about it via fucking email. Bigots: 2, Representation: 0. Both of dirty bisexuals are successfully killed, congratulations!

The bi-xenophile Kelly suffers the same fate: no achievement for her romance, you cannot continue the romance after ME2, and she will either take a poison pill and die or be killed in the Collector's Base/Citadel offscreen in ME3. If she survives both the base and the Cerberus attack, you won't even get to say goodbye to her before the final battle of the game. Bigots: 3, Representation: 0

9. And I almost forgot about Omega DLC that kills the only female turian in the game. Who's also into asari. God, they did her dirty.

"Those were different times," you might say, but all of this could have been fixed in 2019, when the Limited Edition was released. Instead, we just have fellow modders changing the design of Benezia and Samara, restoring MShenko (one of the most healthy, respectful, and mature romances in the entire trilogy) and other gay romances in the game, making all NPCs flirt with your character, adding female turians and krogans to the environment, etc., etc.

Still, I think these games are great. The characters, the cinematics, some aspects of the writing, great! I love that canon. But the LGBTQ+ representation in those games sucks. Big time. But that doesn't stop me from having a bunch of headcanons. For the sake of convenience, I'm going to separate out all the characters for the games in which they debut.

Mass Effect:

MaleShep/FemShep: Both are canonically bi. Both don't mind the alien physiology thing and polyamory. Both are "married to your job" type, so they were okay with casual sex and one-night stands, and only mellowed out while in charge of the Normandy crew. Because of convenience, both had more hetero than same-sex hookups.

Ashley: Straight as a plank and xenophobic, but not homophobic. She's definitely into maleShep, but more into the idea of him as a sole survivor/war hero/butcher of Torfan than an actual person.

Garrus: He likes turian and quarian women. And both fem and maleShep. But with maleShep, he's more busy with the whole "flirt him to death" aspect of their bromance, so there's really no time to get on the floor and get dirty.

I also feel that turian society in the game is very patriarchal, so Garrus has a bias towards femShep and feels less restricted by her rank. With mShep, I think he would have only acted if mShep had specifically pursued that relationship. But mShep is also more interested in just flirting with Garrus.

Kaidan: Canonically bisexual (more into women) and demi. Not into aliens, but not xenophobic. Not a stranger to casual sex, but would really prefer to go steady because #introverted and has enough problems already. "How can you flirt with all these people, Shepard, it's exhausting…"

Liara: She's into both versions of Shepard. And maybe a bit into one drell. Classic demi/asexual. Also, imo, all asari are agender and Liara is not an exception.

Tali: Is a mess and can definitely go cross-species (her romance with Garrus is canon, after all). She's also a massive nerd and a bit kinky. I think she's into human/turian/quarian males, but maybe this femShep really is THAT SPECIAL.

Wrex: Krogan women - that's his sexual orientation. Real bros with mShep, more cautious with femShep because bias. Another "married to his job" character.

Joker: Straight and nerdy. #Irony. Too cool for homophobia.

Chakwas: More married to her job than anyone on this list. Cool lesbian aunt.

And this post is already so long that I'll make a separate one for ME2 and 3.

My thoughts of Chapter One: Pt 1 (1-2 and 1-3)

I decide to not include the prologue, since we have that in the official YT in PrettyBusy.

1-2 "The Death of Belial...?" aka what the fuck is this title XD

The story start with us opening our eyes and seeing Sitri and Ppyong kneel

Goddamn!!! Look at that arm- *Cough*

I like that MC was really awe at Sitri and it took Ppyong greeting Satan to snap MC out of it

Now, I was so happy that Ppyong isn't one of those annoying characters. He manage to be right spot of being cute and smart... More that later.

So, of you unlock part 1 of Naberius' comic and part 2 or 3 Leraye's comic. It has said that Ppyong and devils like him are lesser devil.

It finally sink in to MC that Satan is what he said.

And that where MC and Satan is right now is Gehenna

Now, I want to talk about this. So Ppyong only mention the four region and not all seven, which made me wonder why?

I wanted to counter this with, "well technically we do have called hell all does names, is just within different languages XD"

Again... why not mention the other three region?

Also, through out the story you'll see that all these devils are bias for their home region. I see this as like a sports fan screaming their home team XD

Tho, this makes me wonder about characters that weren't originally from the region they are currently staying at. Like Buer and Bathin.

Bathin was originally from Paradise Lost and Buer was from Tartaros.

I think that they'll show more loyalty to the kings instead of the region.

What makes it sad that Bathin's Homescreen dialog.

Next, Satan asked the two where is Belial.

It ends with Sitri telling Satan that he and Belial was ambushed by angels. And both Satan and Sitri think that Belial is dead...

1-3 "Sitri's kiss"

So... Satan is dumb

Hell, Ppyong is the smart one here

But... Sitri is a yes man

And Ppyong is so done with them

This made me love Ppyong, while he can be loyal to Satan, and the nobles, he has his own thoughts.

After this, Ppyong ask who we are.

After getting a little nervous with all eyes on you, Satan answered

This is really important later, that Satan mention our name first rather calling us Son/Daughter of Solomon.

Then, he show Sitri and Ppyong the brand

After getting some... thoughts about Satan and our situation, Satan notice and tease us

Sir, stop!! I'm getting hot and flustered 😳

Then Sitri and Ppyong saw and reacted shock upon seeing the brand

Satan made sure to mention that it was a Seraphim that branded us.

Which... After seeing the other two Seraphim in the event, yet... It's a good idea to mention that its a Seraphim that did this.

Sitri is in disgust upon hearing it and start grinding his teeth like Satan, which is rare. He is mostly calm... Passive aggressive, but calm.

Then he asked why did a Seraph brand us.

As soon as he mention Solomon, Sitri was suddenly happy to the point he was in tears.

He rushed towards us and kissed us either on the lips or cheek it wasn't clear, it only describe the feeling of the kiss.

There was a moment where Sitri was crying and MC can either pushed him away (Who would do that!?!?) Or wipe away his tears.

Then Satan kicked him and yelled

Now, here's my hot take. I think that Sitri didn't do this with Solomon like what he did here with MC, and people would like to bring up that Satan kissed Solomon in that one comic. But that wasn't Satan.

The clothing is different and the horns are different, and this devil is wearing a earring, plus Satan's eye brows are red not the same hair color.

I do see Satan and the others kissed Solomon on the cheek when greeting him, but people saying this is Satan is wrong.

And the story ends with Ppyong asking Sitri why he kissed MC and he's responds is.

Now... I could admit that maybe Sitri did have feelings for Solomon, but I see that as a one sided love turned into (unrequired love) thing and he knew that he is just happy that he can see Solomon.

Tho that's all speculation. And seeing that this is a Otome game, I'm not holding my breath.

However, I'm hoping on a Sitri arc where he stops calling MC as Solomon when he can finally move one. Maybe in the future.

I made it it's own post cause it got long and this is basically just gonna be a list of my WIP's with some general information and thoughts with some links to some snippets I've shared previously.

Longfics:

Knowing Spirit Albarn is a Drag Current WC about 14k

This is the current longfic I'm trying working on. Spirit ends up doing drag at chupa cabras, Stein comes looking for Spirit and finds out his secret and is thoroughly amused. Stein keeps coming back cause he finds it entertaining and is trying to understand why Spirit's doing it. But Spirit's double life takes a toll on him.

Graves/Fountains (a Wip title) Current WC about 3k (not counting notes that are just dialog spread around my note taking locations)

Stein and Spirit go on a mission and things go wrong, they're both left unable to resonate with anyone, as they're both ignored their problems for so long their souls have gone into what is basically a perpetual state of self defense, so LD puts them both on mandatory leave until they can fix their shit. They end up working at Deathbucks to pay the bills when its been a while with no progress and LD is like 'we can't keep paying you'. They eventually are going to have to go into each others mindscapes and help each other deal with all these things they've buried deep. The wip title is in reference to the imagery in their respective mindscapes.

Pacts Writ in Flesh and Blood Current WC about 27k

A resbang I was unable to finish, as it got a bit too depressing at the time. I will come back to it eventually, but it might yet be awhile. It's present stein/marie and past stein/spirit. It's a supernatural horror au, that started from the idea of Faustian deals, if you know 'the magnus archives' there's also some inspiration taken from there for this one. The promo from resbang will give you a better idea what it's about and has some excerpts:

P.I. AU Currently just notes

More like a very long fic. Its ensemble cast and its scope scares me, it'll probably be a while before I tackle this one, simply cause juggling an ensemble cast this large, and having to make sure the murder mystery makes sense is going to be a lot balls in the air. When it was first conceived it was intended to be Stein/Marie but I'm likely to pivot it slightly to make it still that to and extent but likely end game Stein/Spirit. Idk it's not currently very fleshed out besides some general beats I want to hit with things. Stein is Frank Stone (I think it's hilarious and this choice of mine will never stop amusing me) private investigator who's investigating his buddy Sid's death. also did I mention its the 1920's? cause its the 1920's.

Oneshots:

none of these titles are finalized and are more just ways for me to tell them apart from each other

Carnival Currently just notes

Based off that one ending image of Stein making Spirit puke on the teacups, Spirit is there to chaperone the kids, and asks Stein to come a long. Marie upon learning this implies its a date, which worms its way into Stein's head, leading to something of a disappointing experience when they go.

GD Current WC 2.5k

(I don't want to say the title of this one as it gives away something small that I haven't decided if I want the reader to go into the fic knowing about yet)

Current oneshot I'm working on, after a mission Spirit convinces Stein to visit his parents when he learns they're in the area. It is a bit awkward for all involved but Spirit is learning things about Stein he never knew.

Two fucked up little guys Current WC 1.6K

This one admittedly is almost done, but I haven't felt up for finishing it. Set after Stein and Spirit stopped being partners and after Maka is born, but before the anime. Neither have good coping mechanisms for their stress and end up instinctually reaching out for each others wavelengths, and connect while half way across the city. It's angsty, there's some hurt/comfort but it's not got a happy end coming for it. Though this one is also one that after I post it and people are interested I might end up coming back to and expanding the story on later (and giving it a happier ending most likely)

Misc:

These are things that are minimally fleshed out and tend to be more prompts then actual Wips atm

Gay Pirates:

Spirit used to be steins first mate, now they both have their own crews, and spirit keeps boasting about his getting them into trouble. Maka mutinies her dad stranding him on an island but still kinda feels bad about it so sends Stein a letter addressed as if from Spirit for a duel to the death, and Stein ends up getting stranded on the island with him cause his crew get drove off while he's off board by the navy.

Road Trip:

Been sitting on this one for awhile, but @bcbdrums reminded me it was in my wips by mentioning her own road trip ideas on some posts. I was gonna work on this on the side of my long fic but it grew past oneshot territory and is likely gonna be a medium length fic so it went back on the backburner. It's normal world au and is a last road trip before Stein leaves for med school. But there's gonna be a time skip after the trip to after med school

the moon in bloodborne is one of the weirdest seemingly deliberate inconsistencies throughout the game. it has a bunch of bizarre qualities including the fact that it's a physical object that gets loaded in and its not part of a skybox that just gets switched during cutscenes. despite the inherent terror of the blood moon taking up so much space in our collective brains, it only appears in yharnam, the cathedral ward and yahar'gul. ive seen a lot of theories about why cainhurst or byrgenwerth have regular moons, but i think the more likely answer is that the blood moon is only affecting yharnam. these are also the only places where the tentacled amygdalas or, as they're known internally, "false gods" can be found.

eileen knows too! she knows about dreaming ("No more dreams for me. This is my last chance.") AND the doll. ("You still have dreams? Tell the little doll I said hello"). both were kicked out of the dream because they no longer hunt beasts, thus breaking their contracts. djura protects them and eileen hunts hunters.

at the start of the game you "sign a contract" with the blood minister and get a yummy yharnam blood infusion that gives you access to the dream. presumably, all hunters do or did this to join the hunt and the doll's dialog ("Over time, countless hunters have visited this dream.") reveals that the hunter's dream was once host to many hunters. they likely all dreamed before going mad.

THE HUNTER ASKS:

yeah check this out: if you line your brain with eyes, you have insight. get it. eh? ehhhh??

the witch of hemwick is PROBABLY not wearing eyeballs...fresh ones at least. pebbles are calcified eyes that have hardened due to whatever force causes blood to calcify in bloodborne world (leading to blood shards, blood gems, etc). VERY RARELY will they drop an actual eye, which the item description reveals was taken "quickly" before death or immediately after.

eyes are used exclusively to access the hintertomb chalice, which is of interest to the church because it appears to be where they get their church slaves from (more on this later). BUT the women of hemwick do more than eyeballs. they create bone marrow ash by burning corpses and. hmm. well.

you're right. there's no beasts here. there's no beasts where there's incense in the game, like the parts of the labyrinth that the church has explored (evidenced by the architecture and censures that resemble those in the cathedral ward) or entrances to upper cathedral ward/forbidden woods. a few characters mention that they're running out of it or that it's masking scents. its the reason why the suspicious beggar has to stand outside oedon chapel lol. he cant deal with the stinky anti-wolf smoke

you know where else there's no beasts? yahar'gul. and the only incense is found in the cells where they keep their meat for experiments. but there is an unexplained burning corpse or two in the middle of town.

if you break incense pots, they're full of bones. O_O oh shit i just noticed something lol: eileen's mask says "The beak contains incense to mask scents of blood and beast." YUCK!

the witches are not really educated and do not seem to partake in blood ministration as they are missing any bestial traits. it seems like they are "for hire" and work for both byrgenwerth and the healing church supplying parts from the graves they "maintain".

THE HUNTER ASKS:

it seems like they did once at some point in history and had to give up due to a combination of no more room to bury people and something going wrong with the corpses of yharnamites (more later!).

we know a little bit about yharnam funeral customs by way of eileen's crowfeather set which states that yharnam's treatment of burying the dead is considered a taboo and shameful act by outside cultures which leave their dead to "sky burials", a type of funeral ritual where the corpse is left for birds (like the fat ass crows in this game) to pick clean. those birds are eating so good lately.

perhaps the reason why underground burial is considered distasteful is due to the fact that the great ones were once buried underground by the pthumerians. the graves in the forbidden woods (including the forbidden grave) are, according to the art book, tombstones for great ones.

here are some ways we know yharnamites deal with corpses:

cremate them for profit

bury them

exhuming them for profit

just leave 'em there

lock them in caskets and run before they come back

experiment on them

chuck them in a hole and forget about 'em

fake iosefka does the last one. someone (her?) exhumed a grave near her clinic that was absolutely packed with corpses and they dug deep enough to find an entrance to the hintertomb. the player must enter the hintertomb through a chalice ritual, but this locations is either THE or one of the ways that the hintertomb was discovered.

the hintertomb is described as an auxiliary wing of the pthumerian labyrinth filled with "unceremonious" tombs. hemwick witches can be found here, likely looking for some fresh product to move. its where various people and organizations dump their trash. you can find piles of dead pigs, fake iosefka's failed experiments, some church giants left to die (presumably, they did not originate from there as they are already belled), and some other crap.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to say that besides Batman (my AU) stuff I'll also post some Garten of Banban! Not really from the original game but my version! I wanted to turn my version into an actual game (with permission of Euphoric Brothers of course) but I'm only good at drawing and writing (at least I like to think so) and I have no money to pay someone for coding and other stuff so the idea is gonna stay on paper. But I still want to share the idea with you guys, perhaps some day I'll be able to do something with this : )

Changes in the game:

-The story (duh) -The protagonist is a kid -Character design -Locations and their looks -Puzzles -Dialog (also duh) -Everything makes more sense and has an explanation, I promise -No drone (The only time you will use a drone is for specific puzzles, you don't get to keep it, sorry) -Ways of showing lore, instead of logs and tapes (that don't really add much) you will get more! Audio logs, tapes, documents, drawings, dialog and so much more! -You can interact with anything! Even lights! Every interaction with objects will either be for worldbuilding or to learn about the character/s -The game would be psychological horror with some comedy, there will be some stealth and puzzle bits, there also would be a moment or two where you have to just run for your life and avoid objects or else you're gone. And there will be some action too.

Warnings!

The game would include topics like: -Child abuse -Child neglect -Abuse -Neglect -Experimentation -Non-binaryphobia -Emotional manipulation -Implied animal neglect and abuse -Referenced child death -Referenced death of humans and animals -Implied SA -Referenced torture -Gore (in one of the puzzles in chapter 3, might add more gore in other chapters) -Blood (both normal and mascot one (I know it sounds weird)) -Adults sexualising the mascots for no reason (It's only mentioned in one of the audio logs)(ma'am that's a MASCOT it doesn't need clothes, please stop being weird) Other warnings yet to be added, depends on what I will do with other chapters

I don't know what to tell you -There is a age regressor character (Nabnab, he's not regressed all the time tho) -If you look at a character and think "wow they are so neurodivergent" that's because I am neurodivergent and it kinda spreads into the characters I'm writing ok? I have no control over this

I wanted to show the design of the characters but my style changed and now it looks weird, besides I'm redesigning most of them so instead I'll show you some old art for the chapters! It's not much and it's old (not like years old but you know) but I want you to have an idea of how things would look like : )

I have seen there have been some alterations in Yukari's social link, not a fan of those to be honest, but I understand these were made due to you not needing to romance all the girls but still... I think they could have done a bit different and some were not even necessary. so my thoughts after the cut if you want to read to avoid leaving spoilers in the open.

So lets start with the reversal hug....yeah they went p3p route of changing to "but you are a girl" which honestly I am not very upset about, even though I like the original dialog Yukari says when you pick that option.

one thing that I feel like wasn't a good change was how now Makoto tries to talk to the punks instead of just running and punching them. I like that detail a lot about him, how the option to help Yukari was basically no questions asked, see some jerks intimidating his friend/crush, just punch the guys.

Next, how Yukari now doesn't tell him to not invite anyone else, to just be the 2 of them when talking about going on a trip, but Makoto can say that they should go the 2 of them. I honestly don't get why this was changed, There are many other moments that were kept that show that Yukari is romantically interested in him through her social link so this change is a bit weird to me.

Now rank 9, I understand they had to change it to make the friendship option, and its not really a real issue but changes one aspect I always liked about their relationship.

Rank 9 now gives you the option to say "I love you" to Yukari to go the romantic path. and that's cute and all, but one thing I liked in the original was, they never had to say that to each other. they had this mutual understanding, they didn't need to spell it out, it gave the impression their relationship evolved naturally from friends to lovers.

In the original Yukari would say she love him in rank 10(reload too) but that is much more "hey I know you know this already but I will say", so Makoto saying that changes a bit this dynamic to me. in a way I wish it was some other option like "were not my feelings clear enough" or something better worded but with the meaning of "we both know the answer to this." and I think it would fit fine with the rest of the dialog.

There is also the point that if Makoto says he loves her, doesn't make much sense to me she would say "I want you to only have eyes for me", that's already implied.

And rank 10 has a few weird choices... in the original they would be talking to each other sitting on the floor, she would say that if she is loud people might find out. and they continue talking for a bit before Yukari gives him her phone strap, when in reload that was cut short.

And to me that also feels like it harms a bit their dynamic, cause it was cute how much they seem to be talking to each other, Yukari says one thing that makes Makoto tease her and they just continue to have a good time. When in reload its more direct. Also...removing the hug from rank 10 was weird imo, like i guess they moved it to rank 9 but dont know I liked where it was in rank 10.

This last bit I am unsure now but I faintly remember Yukari asking Makoto to go to her room with the excuse of playing cards... why is this not in reload lol its just so funny, it could be added in her dialog like "let's go to my room...uhmm so we can ....play some cards or something uhmm" it would be a funny nod to the original

Anyway these are just my thoughts on the matter, they don't really ruin the game for me or anything of the sort, are just some nitpicks I have, I just love when a couple don't really need to say they love each other they just know. and well that being said I will just headcanon that some parts are like the original in any works I do so that's fine.

Alpha testing, v0.12-v0.14

So, it's been a busy period, both in real life and for the game. Game stuff first though! M was back testing a few consecutive versions of the game. Some of the highlights for each version:

v0.12 - Looking beyond the code

M had suggested a new room/corridor algorithm to reflect the final design of the dungeon, rather than how it was constructed. During construction, some corridors can be widened, and some rooms can have space taken from them, and so an algorithm was developed that looks for a certain number of adjacent squares (like a 2x2 seed) that fills space and is stopped by a 1 tile wide corridor.

However, the initial algorithm was overzealous in its conversion and also converted the map edge to ground that could be walked on. Oops! So when M stepped onto to one of these spaces, and was looking over into a tile with x or y coordinates of -1, the game would indeed crash.

The other type of "illegal" looking happened due to my implementation of the turn speed option. During battle, you'd turn too fast and (because of my hacky implementation), the enemies wouldn't spawn, and so you'd enter a soft lock sort-of battle mode limbo. Again, all fixed, it now accounts for turn speed!

v0.13 - Tamed doors

Probably the best feature I added in this version was the ability to interact with doors and stairs simply by walking into them. It was a small change but one that was appreciated.

Apart from that, M had a suspiciously bad run of luck previously when trying to extract lore/logs from computers within the dungeon. When I looked into it, I was testing multiple log parts and forgot to get rid of a debug value that stopped the player from collecting the first part of the log. If the first part wasn't obtained, the later parts couldn't be obtained too!

However, in this version, I once again forgot to reset the extraction rate for the log - I wanted to make sure everything was working so I set the rate temporarily to 100%. So M went from being too unlucky to being too lucky...

v0.14 - The sound of music

I had M fiddle around with the volume settings on the options in the title screen (without telling him why), and we spent some time in the options menu. Here's some paraphrased dialog:

Him: Oh, the music cut out and reset just now

Me: Yes, my composer hasn't completed the song so it's just here as placeholder

Him: Right, I don't think I've heard it cut out before because I've never spent so long here on the title screen

Me: Actually, it's because this is the first version of the game to include music!

My composer friend (P, from now on) had asked me to put in some music in order for him to get an idea of the types of songs I want, and how they sounded in context. P said just use whatever was the most fitting, and he had written samples of songs previously for me, which are amazing, so of course I added them in. Along with some examples of other music I thought was fitting.

I said it to P, and he said it back to me during his test (v0.15, blog coming soon), but wow, the music really makes the game come together.

There's 3 lots of patchnotes below the cut, so brace yourselves...

Undertale headcanon: How long live monsters?

In the game, it was not so much information about monsters aging; you can't even tell what kind of century today. (But some valid theories proves that it's 211X year)

For giving answers, we need to look for many facts, so this post have 3 parts:

I. Age assumptions.

II. Are ghosts and Gerson exceptions?

Bonus: protagonist(s) age.

Let's begin.

I. Age assumptions.

In common, we have three options:

Monsters live shorter than humans;

Monsters live longer than humans;

Monsters live as long as humans.

Have you already noticed what I highlighted? Good. But let's check all.

---- Can monsters race have live less than humans race? ----

Yes. But not most of them.

We know that the monster's body is weaker than human's one, but it doesn't mean that it affects how long monsters can live. Rather, it means that after losing hope or will to life, the monster's body starts destroying and monster dying. According to some dialogs, many monsters fall into depression; they can live less just because of it.

---- Can monsters race have live more than humans race? ----

Yes. But not most of them. (Did I repeat myself?)

We can name some of long-livers, but they exception, not rule:

Boss monsters (Asgore, Toriel, Asriel);

Ghosts (Dummy, Mad Dummy/Mad Mew Mew, Napstablook, Mettaton/Hapstablook);

Gerson.

...or, after all, are only Boss monsters?

II. Are ghosts and Gerson exceptions?

Monsters are mostly made of magic.

Not fully, mostly. Some parts of monster's body are physical; it's highly possible that these physical matter turn into dust after the monster's death.

How much of a monster is magic is unknown, but we can say that it's variable:

Undyne in Genocide Route can gain enough determination for surviving after death hit and don't melt like in Neutral Route, so she for sure has more physical matter that regular monsters;

Napstablook (and other ghosts as well) literally have no body (only if they fused with physical object like robot or dummy).

What it gives to us?

Determination is a will to life. It's the reason why Amalgamates can't die after injection; if monsters have both determination and enough physical matter, they can live a long time.

But what about ghosts? They can't be killed (only with magic attack), and according to Napstablook Undernet nickname (NAPSTABLOOK22) and some dialog (that proves he could know Toriel before she locked yourself in Ruins), we can say that he lives for a long time:

After all, the queen is or was highly interested in his farm:

Without physical matter (or with very-very small number of it), monsters fully depend on their soul. So... they can die naturally only after losing hope. It's pretty close to immortality, isn't it?

And the last one: Gerson, who is... turtle. Turtle can live more than 100 years; monsters turtle probably even more. If live also depends on species, we can say that Fuku Fire and Grillby (for example) also have a long life: fire can exist for hundreds years.

---- Can monsters race have live the same as humans race? ----

Yes. Most of them.

War was a long time ago when humans still used swords and armor:

In the Dark Ages, a person who lives 40 years already counted as long-liver. From this perspective, of course, monsters live longer than humans!

Frisk and Chara's sprites are the same size, so they probably have the same age (+- 1 year). What else can we say?

They are old enough for reading;

They aren't interested in toys in Toriel's house;

They know concepts of love (can flirt and ask for romance advice) and dating;

And they understand the conception of death and killing.

Also, Frisk are just a little older than Monster Kid (their sprite are higher), who is very childish and naive.

So, their age should be 11-13 years: they can act and feel themself as adult, but for mostly all people around, they are still small children.

Kinda tired of gluskin fans, fic writers etc being accused of something. Also funny how she calls Blaire a cute baby, dude, you can dislike Gluskin, of course he is not a saint, but Blaire literally gets advantage of people with some mental illness and child abused victims, and even use their trauma, allowing beatings AND rape, for the experiment to success. People sympathize with Gluskin and Walker since both were victims at some point. Trager gets a pass, despite him RAPING women willingly (though people like him because his design is cool and his BUDDY) before the experiments, and as far as we know Eddie never targetted children or raped women, he mutilated them during some kind of psicosis

I'm gonna be very straight forward, but I cannot stand to watch videos that just berate things I enjoy, so I will not be watching the video for greater context but will however respond to the actual information you sent me directly.

I absolutely agree in the points you made. I find it incredibly contradictory to find people who like one character disgusting but then immediately turn and love the character that's just as bad (or worse). I have gone at length for my dislike of Jeremy and you put it out plainly that is simply due to the fact that he is the one actively creating these monsters. And he knows what goes on within the walls of that asylum. He's a terrible man, but it does make him an incredible villain, so I can totally understand why people enjoy him, I simply do not.

Something important about this game is that it's very blunt, red barrels does not beat around the bush, if they want you to know something about a character, they will directly tell you. So it's easy to very much note that none of Eddie's crimes are that of the sexual nature. He has some wild dialog and very handy in game movements, but if they had wanted you to know of him as someone that executes crimes of that nature, we would have seen in in those flashes of life during the locker scene. Instead we just continue to see a delusional and violent man. Which is a very important thing to note, as when anyone takes part in horror films and enjoyment of the slasher genre, the fact people die is meant to be scary but it's never meant to be some sort of damnation of the monster that is doing it. Or else you wouldn't see so many people enjoy characters like Jason or Michael. Where as if a horror film takes note of a rape scene, it's meant to feel much less like an action scene for your to scream and get an adrenaline rush from, and is very much a tone shift to make you feel uncomfortable and distressed. And not in a pleasant way, it's something entirely different in film versus a villain killing someone.

Now it's to note that from here, it's pointed out that it's obvious that these people in the asylum are essentially just a bunch of slashers, aka, the fact they are killing people is just meant as actions/excitement. It's what you are expecting to come from playing these games. And instead what you are meant ro focus on, story wise, is the underlying information. I'm just going to focus on Eddie to make it easy, but you find his papers that say he has a terrible home life and was assaulted by his father and uncle, you learn that he mutilated women but never did anything uncouth with the bodies, you find out through Waylon that... the scientists are just as gross as his father and uncle were, and that he wasn't cooperative with the obviously bad therapists and would lie to try and get himself in a better situation. People chalk this up to him trying to be manipulative bit it feels much more obvious as a defensive tactic. He's scared and wants out. You are meant to feel for those in the asylum, just like Miles and Waylon do. When he dies, he gifts you with a weakened and delusional message.

Jeremy on the other hand, you get little to no secondary backstory to him, you are meant to see him directly as he is. The man with the money that is making all of this happen and knows it is happening. You are meant to just see him as the man making this asylum work, this terrible place exist. He is only there to kick Waylon at every chance for his escape, to tell him that he wants him dead, he is not there for you to sympathize with. He is supposed to represent the reprehensible company you want to see fail. That's the entire point of Waylon's and Miles' characters, to be the breaking points to destroy this company. When he dies, he is destroyed, he stabs you and then is mutilated by the walrider. He doesn't give you anything to sympathize on.

Now this is not to say that I wouldn't allow people to give him sympathic headcanons, I have read some, I have enjoyed them. They simply aren't my takes on the character and that's fine. I would never send hate to those that like him, but it is fun to bully him as the villain he is.

What does all this rambling mean though? It means that anyone that viscerally hates Eddie snd those that like him while actively saying how much they like Jeremy is entirely missing the point of the first game. The point is that no matter how terrible of people all these variants are, you are still supposed to hate what is happening to them, you aren't supposed to think they deserve to be there and should be without help. No, you are meant to see this as the greater ide aof how mental health is often toyed with and overlooked, how people are often let down and made worse by how terrible many systems are. How money can make those with just as devious thoughts be CEOs while those without are just tossed into a dirty box to be laughed at and prodded, destroyed further. It's meant to show that power imbalance.

You aren't supposed to agree with Murkoff, the point of the game is to see them as the villain. And if you instead are siding with the evil company at the end of the game, either you didn't play it right or you need to execute better critical thinking when enjoying media.

7x05 vs 8x05 - Mirroring Scenes

Not only is this the surrender of the Lannister army twice (in 7x05, it has their allies like the Tarlys as well), but it also shows you just why you should have been concerned at the Tarlys' execution no matter how much of a jerk Randyll was to Sam.

First we start out with Dany "addressing" her defeated enemies from a high vantage point (above them all):

Not enough people made the choice and bent the knee were intimidated/conquered & saw her for being a savior in 7x05 so Drogon flexes and sure enough we see:

In 8x05, the Lannister soldiers have not surrendered yet so we see Drogon flexing again (at Dany's command through their bond):

In 7x05, Dany orders Randyll to step forward and after some back and forth between he and Tyrion, she asks him "You will not trade your honor for your life?" (which calls back to what Dany asks Jon in 7x04 "Isn't their survival more important than your pride?" while withholding her help in the NK war until Jon bends the knee) Randyll straight up tells her that she is not his queen and so he seals his fate.

When Dickon refuses to bend the knee, Tyrion tries his best to convince Dany to put him in a cell. "I meant what I said. I'm not here to put men in chains. If that becomes an option, many will take it." (which shows right here that she always intended to rip the old world out "root and stem" & not truly win the hearts and minds of her people or rule with love or even love mixed with some fear) "I gave them a choice. They made it." -> in 8x05, people cry out for the bells to be rung in KL, to surrender, just like the Lannister army was given the choice to lay down their swords & when they made that choice, it sealed all of their fates

"Your Grace, you start beheading entire families--"

"I'm not beheading anyone."

Which is the uninhibited and terrifying (Dany POV-less) version of this scene en masse:

And is it any wonder that we see Cersei and Jaime in the 8x05 scene before Dany makes her decision, more specifically Jaime picking up a sword as he makes his way through the city to get to Cersei? Especially when:

(and Jaime is a mirror of Jon in a way which considering Dany's end and how it comes about is important to keep in mind especially since "You can forgive them all and make them see that they made a mistake. Please, Dany" & then Tyrion and Jon are mirrored later on as well, right down to the relieved expressions on their faces when they both see surrenders happening from their different vantage points)

We all already been knew but when you pick apart these scenes and see just how much they mirrored these two events, it becomes even more evident where they were headed with Dany's story in the end. While the execution of her dark turn was rushed (and then the moral & impact of her arc was negated by that Emilia-insisted reminder of season 1 Dany in the 8x06 throne room scene dialogue because she was too close to it), this was always where she was headed. They did everything but put up a big sign in neon lights telling you where this was always going.

And say what you will about the writing, the last season, the show, the showrunners, etc., but connecting scenes like this through mirroring was absolutely brilliant.

Talking to my bff about mayans/soa and it got me thinking about Gemma.

Before all of this gets away from me I want to say that this isn't me even entertaining the idea of intention on Kurt Sutters or anyone else's mind. This also isn't me turning the narrative around and making soa out to be some feminism show. It's not. It's really not. It's a macho sausage fest. But this post goes out to the girlies.

So. Gemma. Queen Bee. HBIC. She is the soa enforcer when it comes to women in the show and around the club. She calls women sluts, whores, etc. and far worse stuff. Sometimes her dialog could be spoken by a dude on the show and I wouldn't even blink, esp. when it comes to degrading women.

And by all accounts she won that way. She is the ultimate old lady, highest ranking woman present at all times, even when she is not the wife of the clubs prez. She is playing the patriachys game, she is one of the boys; she is winning. People either hate her for behaving like that/or judge her far harsher than the dudes or are in love with her; kinda affirm her actions and try to immitate her cause they are "bad bitches" too.

Screw intention on Sutters part but is she winning? Truly? She is the one woman who suffers the most gendered crimes, most often on the show. And she is the one woman who would be a good addition at the clubs table cause she cares about the club and isn't afraid to kill people over it. And still never gets to be one of the brothers.

Gemma is someone who "gets the life" and protects it, for that she is rewarded. But rewarded as a woman. She is still "just" an old lady even if the is thee old lady. And she gets punished as a woman when she missteps. Just like the other not old ladies, the ones she looks down on.

Even before Clay/Gemma conflict on screen she tells Tara that it's not the first beating/smack that she took. It's implied that either John and/or Clay hit her. While Tara is shocked, Gemma is more "that's the life" about it. Both her husband's cheat/ed on her regularly, and while it happens on runs, she is supposed to be fine with it. And pushes that narrative. The conflict only arises cause the girl shows up. Gemma is raped and beaten when the club has enemies and is instructed to deliver a message. She is later beaten by her husband on screen, when she tries to argue with him earlier that the club doesn't do drugs he grabs her by the throat and tells her that she doesn't tell him what the club does. Conveniently forgetting that he uses her as a battering ram to tell everyone else what the club does and quiet liked her cheer-speeches in the earlier seasons. As long as she is "in line" she apparently can tell what the club does/stands for.

Later her son pimps her out, literally, to that husband who beat her viciously, her son knows this, cause he needs information from him and she is supposed to honey trap him into sharing. Much later, after she admittedly kills his wife, that same son shoots her from behind and kills her. She is shown to give him permission cause that's "who they are". She is the most driving force behind the "outlaw life" in the show. Should have patched her in and given her an outlet for all the ideas.

And as much as she is the hbic she gets sex crimed every season at least once! As much as she plays the game and shits on other women she gets punished just like them. Let that sink in for a sec before you break your neck posting "Gemma was right etc." and immitate her too much by "putting bitches in their place". Remember how Gemma was put in her place by the dudes whose rules she followed to a T.

Tara, most behatedest, who hated the life/style and the club and even at her most "gemmafication" didn't enforce the boys club rules as much, doesn't get "put in her place" the same way. She doesn't stand for and accept some default behaviors. Again, the show isn't feminist tm and Tara does her fair share of fighting women too, but she does punish and hold Jax responsible for misstepping, cheating as much. She isn't beaten by a man ever, she isn't raped, she isn't pimped. Her most horrific physical injury/handicap/illness is completely "sexless". In fact she pretends to have a miscarriage and blames it on Gemma and because Gemma behaves the way she does Jax believes she caused it.

So while I think hating Gemma is understandable, she did *all this*, one cannot ignore that she also got "got" every season. And while I think it's cool that Gemma brought confidence and a certain attitude to women and their self perception I don't think one should ignore how her hating other women and playing by the boys rules, enforcing them on other women, didn't help much in the end when it came to domestic violence and such.

I'm gonna focus mostly on Wangxian since they are the only pairing I've actually published anything for, but aspects of the neverending (unpublished) Tolkien fic are likely to creep in here, too.

B: Any of your stories inspired by personal experience?

The fic as of yet only titled "Wangxian 1929" has many aspects that are inspired by stories I was told as a child about the lives of my maternal grandparents, including how they met. There are also a number of details inspired by events from my own childhood and young adulthood and Wei Wuxian's love of astronomy and cosmology is really just an echo of my own interests. I probably can't talk about much of it here because only one chapter has been published (though many more have been partly written), but in that story it is really Lan Wangji's often quite isolated and lonely day-to-day experiences, ones characterized more by his inner life than his interactions with others in the world outside of him, that most reflect my own experiences.

The neverending and unpublished Tolkien fic, if I were to honestly strip it down, is probably really just a very self-indulgent dialog with myself about theodicy and the frustration that comes with perfectionism as an artist, particularly when they are tied together so as to ask: how can a thing be both good and not perfect?

C: What character do you identify with most?

Regarding Wangxian I can see in myself almost equal parts of WWX and LWJ. I greatly identify with many of the quirks of WWX's brain as well as his very intense internal sense of justice (and admittedly his enjoyment of being the center of attention), but I also greatly identify with LWJ's stubborness, his idealism, his introversion, and his social akwardness.

I probably shouldn't tell anyone who I identify most with in my Tolkien fic…

S: Any fandom tropes you can't resist?

I have a real soft spot for the sunshine/grumpy pairing. This doesn't necessarily apply to Wangxian--or at least not to older Wangxian--but I think there can be some similar dynamics at play, especially when they first meet and are young and LWJ is so angry at himself for feeling what he feels. But the waiting for them to get together angst, the long slow ratcheting up of yearning. That's just chef's kiss and I don't think I can ever read enough of it. You know that comic where the creator talks about the joy of seeing their OTP fall in love and get together 1000 times in 1000 different ways thanks to fanfiction? That's me with Wangxian.

Oh god… this is SO hard…. Dialogue is my FAVORITE thing to write so I’m choosing more than one 😩

I love from chapter 2 when Javi is going to drive Osita back to her apartment after she’s hurt and is joking that he’s gonna kidnap her

“Just gotta get the keys from my pops and then I’ll be right back.”

“What if I try to make a break for it?”

“It won’t take me long to catch you.”

“Touché.”

In chapter 7 when Osita wakes up Javi by taking care of him but won’t let him go down on her until he gets ready for work bc she knows this man is hungry as hell

“You are not making this any easier on me!” You jokingly shoved him. “You and I both know that if you don’t eat, the rumbling in your stomach is loud enough to set off seismic wave detectors for an earthquake, and while I am flattered by your offer, I don’t think my pussy has enough nutritional value to get you through lunch time without eating.”

Anything with Steve is some of my favorite dialogue to write so I love in chapter 10 when he catches Javi and Osita at his birthday 😂

Whatever ya say man. Hey listen, all the girls are cashed out in the car so we’re gonna hit the road. I just wanted to say it was so good to see you, Peña. The two of you need to come by sometime now that we’re close. I know I’ve given you a lot of shit over the years, but I mean it when I say I’m really fucking happy for you. 10: Why did you choose this pairing for this particular story?

Okay so Javi is my favorite Pedro character bc I believe in my heart of hearts that this man is actually such a big softie, and loves and cares so deeply for the people around him. After Season 3 especially, I feel like you can tell how much he wishes he could have had a more “normal” life, and had to give up some of the things, like a family, that he’s always wanted but he feels like he’ll never get, let alone deserve. Osita is kind of in the same boat after her relationship with Paul and isn’t really quite sure what to do after her life has felt like it’s fallen apart too. I also love the “I didn’t know how much I needed you until I had you” trope and was perfect for these two because they both love and care about each other so deeply and weren’t sure if they’d ever find the kind of love they have for each other 🥺💕

12: What do you like least about this fic?

That at some point, it has to end 😩 No idk, I think that the fact that I tend to write long ass chapters has been hard for me, like I love the way they turn out, but I also am a huge people pleaser so I put a lot of pressure on my self to try and write and put stuff on here as often as I can and sometimes it’s kind of daunting. Like I feel awful that chapter 17 has taken so long but I know that’s a me thing 🥴
