i also did some sketching of people at u of a campus while i was out and about today. I started with the goose seconds before this mysterious lady with a cane and a bag full of seed came by - the goose FLEW at her hissing and flapping in what I later determined was excitement (and this action had the unfortunate consequence of scaring the shit out of me and flinging gravel in my eyes, sob sob)

I took myself on my first semi-serious bike ride of the year today and I was out for [counts] 5 and a half hours just soaking up sunshine and nature. I tried to take myself a little further afield than I usually do once I've acquired a treat, so I spent some time in ÎNÎW River Lot 11 Indigenous Art Park (as seen briefly in this comic I did!)

The two pieces are Isoktew and Mikikwan respectively, the latter as seen from sitting at the top of Pehonan, all of which you can read more about from the link above!

i had this comic in mind for the past couple months and only just now got around to executing it haha. edmonton is always covered in gravel and sand left behind after the snow and ice melts in march and april before street sweeping begins, an annual condition that victoria basically never experiences ever. if we're lucky, we might even see a daffodil or two before may!

Updates (and a poll?)

Hi all,

I've been neglecting this blog for a bit because I've been having a rough time. I lost a family member a few weeks ago and even though I was as prepared as I could be, it was still difficult and I found it hard to think much about a lot of things that inspire me with regards to this blog because I look around and have all these memories (and unanswered questions). (however, i also have inherited a bunch of recipes which is an enormous piece of 'berta history. to me, anyway. and i haven't even told you about the oilers cookbook.)

I am still having good days and bad days but I do want to think towards a future when I can start chipping away at those last ten or so asks in the box. And hey, since there's about ten, why don't we prioritize them with another mysterious emoji poll for me to look at when I feel up to it?

in true canadian fashion: sorry i'm late

although, in some ways, i'm actually early. You know what I realized doing this ambitious painting? this year is going to be the 15th anniversary of IAMP.

The call for auditions was uploaded September 22, 2009, and if I recall correctly my audition as artist and VA was accepted around October or November of that same year. I've grown a lot as an artist and as a person in that long time and for some weird reason I just can't let these guys go.

anyway, thanks for everyone who participated in the roulette, I know it doesn't seem like a big deal but I really struggle drawing all of these guys without losing steam. it really helped! especially since I don't do a lot of gouache work and I second guessed myself a lot. It warms my heart a little to see you guys engaged in this silly game.

what else is there to say. oh yeah, I put two types of maple leafs. the stereotypical sugar maple is in the upper right of course, but I also put a manitoba maple in the lower left because that's the kind of maple I'm most familar with where I'm from. it's long been my mission to bring the western rep in whatever I do, so it's kind of my love letter signature to my own constantly changing understanding of Who Am I and Where Am I From.

anyway. enjoy :) i enjoyed making it. thanks to ctcsherry for creating these guys

it started snowing here so its very dark and i want to come back to this tomorrow to do some touch ups in daylight but look at my boy!!

thankfully you can't tell how little light i have from this picture but every time i put my arm over it i cast a shadow and have to squint like a little old lady and what colour im trying to put down aaaaaaa (and sorry for the eyeless nightmare fuel it'll look better eventually i promise)

on the one hand having 4 characters to go back and forth on is great because it gives the layers time to dry before i get impatient

on the other hand, even though sunset isnt until past 8:30 today, the sky is getting darker and darker because we are supposed to have snow overnight and im trying to paint as fast as i can while i still have light ;~;
