Hey everyone!
I apologize for not posting anything for a month(!).Being engulfed by my hectic routine, I decided to keep my studyblr on hiatus for a while. My mocks ended this Thursday but my tension still remains. Its not like I am scared of exams rather I lost my motivation to study.I had been studying with so much zeal until previously but now am not.I hope to post more regularly as CIEs are around the corner and I need to refuel that motivation.
How have you been? When are your exams?

This is how March for me really looks like. Pre-mocks+mocks+insane hours of studying=sleep deprived student who more or less resembles a mad scientist now.

9/100 days of productivity
{02.03.2017} :: AS Electrochemistry Managed to spend some time reviewing physical and organic chemistry while waiting for my friend to finish his extra classes by the pretty water fountain area on campus. Only problem I have with the area is the insane number of mosquitoes, but I survived. Also somehow scraped a 32/40 on the AS Statistics test I had today, which is a massive comfort. I feel a little more ready for AS, at least where math is concerned. Probably going to try waking up early to continue with organic chem, I’ve been having some trouble with my carbonyl compounds.

Days have blurred into hours and hours into minutes.Time is ticking away and work is piling up,day and night. No wonder I haven’t been able to be active, for which I apologize deeply.
For the past few weeks I’ve been supper busy. From school work, self studying, making props for a carnival (now postponed) to keeping my sanity ,all kept me occupied.I missed this all a lot and hope to be posting more frequently.

Why does the quadratic formula work?
I can’t believe that most people I know never derived it – it explains WHY the formula works like it does! As long as you can do some basic algebra, you should be fine:
Take the expression for a quadratic polynomial:
Tumblr media
Then, move the constant over:
Tumblr media
Divide by a:
Tumblr media
Take half the x term and square it:
Tumblr media
Use it to complete the square:
Tumblr media
Condense the left side to a squared term:
Tumblr media
Convert the right side to a common denominator and add together:
Tumblr media
Put together:
Tumblr media
Take the square root of both sides:
Tumblr media
(note the plus/minus is for the duality of roots)
Simplify the right hand side by taking the square root of the bottom term:
Tumblr media
Solve for x:
Tumblr media
Since they have common denominator, put together, and voila!
Tumblr media
Quadratic formula!
Note, the more intuitive way involves using group theory, but that’s not something you touch til later undergrad courses in math, so don’t worry about that.

Spent 3 hours after school in the library today. I managed to get two S2 past papers done which is a miracle because it was so loud today with GCSE students doing everything but revising (why would you go to the library to talk?!) Hoping it’ll be quieter tomorrow!

Instead of procrastinating and whining constantly about your studies, for once, sit on that desk of yours and think how lucky you are get the opportunity to gain education, while numerous are deprived from this blessing. Keep a water bottle with you along with coffee or any other caffeinated drink.Keep your phone some where not within your perimeter, take a deep breath and study as much as your brain can absorb. Its not about quantity but quality.Take notes, read the text book and highlight.Aim high towards your goal and never give up.Take baby steps and you will reach there,God Willling.

The last coupe of days have been immensely exhausting. I've been trying to balance all subjects on daily basis, but at midnight when i tell myself to take a break the guilt settles in.School is getting tougher and the urge to get the best grades is getting stronger by each passing day.On top of that, CIEs are getting nearer, minute by minute.
*sigh*
Ill try to post more on weekends. Please do leave some tips.
Yours sincerely,
-A sleep deprived O-levels student

Yesterday i made sketches of graphs of functions (which is actually quite fun).In it I made sketches of linear equation, quadratic equation, cubic equation, exponential function and reciprocal function.I recommend this to everyone as its extremely useful and even before solving the question you know how your graph looks like.
