btw i finished an unauthorized fan treatise in literally a day and it FUCKS. it's got everything. unreliable narrator. kin drama. flame wars. rpf fix-it fic. livejournal call-out posts. doxxing. murder. the epilogue had me GAGGED. if you haven't read it it is free and absolutely worth it

not exactly a whump trope but definitely angsty, i love when characters react differently than you’d expect in response to emotional turmoil. i love to see a character reacting with irrational anger, a boistrous character going really quiet, a loner character who now never wants to be without their friends. i just love the marked before and after of “oh, this character has been changed”

#I’m with @hurtcomforts on this one #h/c is a brand of whump but not all whump is h/c #although I do think purely emotional is whump but that’s because that’s my main thing #just something about like a very specific level of mental torture especially in like the aftermath of a thing #like then pushing people away or something #I guess it boils down to whether you consider angst a part of whump? which I do because it’s the same community #you do the same stuff you know? it’s just one is mental and the other is physics

i think if someone was trapped in a timeloop for long enough they would start to fear getting out of it. how long would the initial agony last before it fades into the repetition of your regular life? the comfort of always knowing what would happen next. it's never-ending but always familiar. would the thought of experiencing something new be too much to bear?

since im on a roll about tragedies:

i am sick to death of fourth wall breaks that are funny. i want fourth wall breaks that make me want to cry.

give me hamlet looking up during his monologue to see the audience and plead with them for help. give me orpheus, on the road back up from the underworld begging us to make sure eurydice is there, to tell him she is safe. give me orpheus turning when the audience stays silent.

give me someone, bloody and full of tears monologuing to the camera when the narrative has wound itself so tight that they can't escape it anymore.

"youre just watching me. help me. im dying and im rotting and im losing myself and you wont do a thing."

i want the tragedy to be the performance. i want the tragedy to be, truly, in the eyes of the beholder.
