Lie To Me - 3 | Heat Waves
Ivy lay awake staring at the ceiling, occasionally glancing over at her clock that read 3:45. She was waiting for it to become morning.
She'd accepted that she wasn't falling asleep anytime soon, not with her head in the manic state that it was in.
Ivy couldn't put her mind to rest, she was thinking about everything. She was so conflicted with her feelings.
She was trying to be honest with herself lately, a new thing she was trying. It was good, to be honest, but it was causing her a lot of stress.
Admitting to herself that she likes someone takes a while, she just keeps telling herself she's being strange or thinking about little things too much over and over again.
She couldn't get Ashton out of her head. His beautiful eyes, his smooth sun-kissed skin and the freckles that splayed across his cheeks.
She was in love with every single feature of his face.
When she and Ashton stayed up drinking beside the pool one night that's when she realised that she was in deep.
He looked so gentle and welcoming with his kind eyes and his features lit up with the pool lights and the moon.
She didn't say anything and tried to act normal but her heart was beating out of her chest.
Her heart was also racing the other night with Luke, his hands grasping onto her like he was going to lose her at any moment. She felt secure with Luke which wasn't a familiar feeling for her, she was almost always on edge, waiting for something horrible to happen. She hoped for the best but also prepared for the worst. He'd take a bullet for her and she knew it. He made sure she knew it.
She loved how comforting his warm, soft and tanned skin was against hers. She loved how he scrunched the fabric of her shorts and how his hands felt against her thighs.
The other night was very new for them, Luke had dreamed of it but he never thought it would happen.
He loved the way his hands looked against her olive skin, soothing her with his delicate touch.
He loved the way his head fit so perfectly on her chest like it was made just for him.
He loved the way her fingers raked through his messy blonde hair. It could send him right to sleep, even if the world was ending it would never fail to instantly put him at ease.
And Ashton was also thinking too much for his own good. He was an over-thinker and it kept him up some nights.
He was used to it. Whenever he couldn't sleep, he would go downstairs and sleep on the couch, hoping Ivy would join him and they'd cuddle up and watch Titanic until they fell asleep.
He threw the covers off his body, slipping on some pyjama bottoms and making his way downstairs.
He ran his hand through his hair, pushing the strands away from his eyes with a deep sigh.
He got a glass of water for himself and an extra one for Ivy in case she came down to join him.
He sat down on the l-shaped couch, staring up at the ceiling again.
He sat in silence for a few minutes until he could hear light footsteps coming down the stairs.
He sat up and smiled, watching Ivy come down the stairs to meet him.
He opened his arms up, moving a little to make space for her beside him. "Hi, Ives," Ashton smiled as she situated herself beside him, and he hugged her close to his side.
"You okay?" Ivy asked him and he nodded.
"Yeah, just thinking too much and I couldn't sleep," he let out a breath and Ivy nodded, knowing exactly what he was talking about.
They had many nights like these.
In the early hours of the morning when they couldn't sleep, they would find each other and just sit and be there with one another, even if they weren't saying a word.
Whether it was on the couch, in the kitchen, in Ashton's bedroom or by the pool they adored just being with each other.
It was one of those nights where they just needed to be silent and simply just...think. They both knew it, so it's exactly what they did.
They sat in silence in each other's arms, watching the tv but not fully registering what was going on in the movie. "Ash? What do I do about having conflict... with my thoughts? I want something but I also want something else. They're both so different but I just can't choose."
"Let it play out, it'll sort itself out and you'll decide what you want. Remember, don't settle for anything, go for what you truly want, Ivy."
"Thank you," she whispered, finally being able to put her thoughts to rest. Ashton always helped her, he gave the best advice but never used it for himself.
"Ivy, help me stop thinking," it was eating him alive. It could be the stupidest, most irrelevant thing but he would spend every minute of the day thinking about it.
"Just think, on your deathbed, this thing you're thinking about. Will it matter to you and will you think about it at that moment? If not, it doesn't matter and it's not worth your time or thought."
Ashton sat staring at the ceiling again, thinking more for a moment. It wouldn't matter, the only thing that would matter to him would be his friends and family in the end, nothing makes him truly happy like they do. "You should've told me that sooner," Ashton chuckled and Ivy smiled into his chest.
"Come to my room?" Ash asks, slightly nudging her shoulder.
Ivy nodded her head, attempting to climb off of him but he didn't let her.
Instead, he carried her up the stairs, the blanket from the couch still wrapped up around her.
As soon as her head hit Ashton's pillow she was knocked out and Ashton brought the bedsheets over her, making sure she was warm and comfortable enough before getting in bed himself.
Ivy's words kept playing over and over in his head. After hearing what she said he'd probably never overthink about something stupid ever again.
She was so knowledgeable and Ashton knew for sure she'd read that in one of her books. A lot of the things she says, all her lyrics sound like they're straight from a beautiful piece of literature.
She was like a goddess out of a beautiful piece of literature.

Lie To Me - 2 | Model Buses
"Need any help?" Michael asked from the living room, tilting his head back to look at Ivy.
"No, I'm good. Can you just ask everyone what drinks they want when they come down?" Michael nods, getting up from his place on the couch as Ivy brought through the pizza boxes and laid them all out on the coffee table.
Ivy ran up the stairs, going into her and Calum's room first. Luke was on Calum's bed with a guitar laid across his chest, lightly strumming it while staring at the ceiling, mumbling something about someone lying to him. He has a beautiful voice.
Calum was too entranced in his video game to even notice that Ivy had walked in but the other dirty blonde boy sat up, placing his guitar against Calum's wall. "There's pizza downstairs," Ivy said as she stood in the doorway, waiting for at least an acknowledgement from Calum.
Luke leaned forward, hitting him on the back of the head and the dark-haired boy's head jerked forward, his headphones falling off with a clatter against his keyboard.
Calum grunted at Luke, swatting him away, "almost done," Calum murmured and Luke got up from his seat on Calum's bed. He followed Ivy out in the hallway, Ashton emerging from his room at the mention of pizza.
They all make their way down the stairs, gathering around the small coffee table in the centre of the living room, Michael placing down drinks for everyone.
Calum finally decided to join them after five minutes, complaining that his pizza had gone a bit cold but only he was to blame.
They always tried to make an effort to eat together, they all especially loved going out to eat at restaurants and once a week they would go out to get ice cream at their favourite shop not far from their house.
It had become routine at this point, it was where Ashton and Ivy would go after school some days to hang out, still in their uncomfortable school uniforms.
Ivy and Ashton's friendship was always growing stronger with everything they went through together. It's almost as if one of them was upset, the other would be too.
They know each other well enough to know how their brains work, more than they do themselves.
From the moment Ivy and Ashton sat next to each other in first period English - Ivy was always thankful that she had English first on a Monday, she'd always loved it and was her favourite subject. They knew they'd take a particular liking to each other.
Ivy liked how Ashton was very sweet and seemed to always be smiling, she's always loved his kind and inviting eyes. She loved how his hair was soft, curly and shaggy.
Ashton liked how Ivy always seemed to be prepared and put together no matter how stressful or chaotic things were. He admired her hope in unfortunate situations - she probably learned it from some book she'd read. He admired her love for books and he always found how she would always be reading romance novels quite strange even though her perception of what love was very tainted by her parents.
That's when they grew a lot closer - when her parents had trouble.
She'd always be staying over at his and they both loved it that way. She loved the chaos and how strange it felt to get ready for school at someone else's house.
Ashton's parents always loved Ivy and would always love having her over. Ash's mum was especially kind to her because she'd always wanted a daughter (not that she doesn't love Ashton). She was terrified to have another kid since there were complications in her pregnancy with Ashton and doctors said it would be best to not have any other children.
She was content with Ash, his mum loved him unconditionally.
And when the other guys started hanging out at Ashton's house, Ivy seemed to stay away from them. She was intimidated at how confident and outgoing they all were.
She'd always been captivated by Luke, though. He was always so calm, much like her in many ways. They always had lots in common and that's probably why they got on so well.
Calum, Michael and Luke all noticed how she was always at his house but didn't say anything. They all kind of knew what went on with her parents, everyone did much to Ivy's dislike.
Her dad was horrible to her and her mum. Her mum wasn't the best at dealing with both their anger, either. She would always pick fights with him and heavily regret it later. It wasn't so much her fault, more her dads for being so hostile all the time.
Ivy always knew they were once in love but it seemed since she was born that their relationship fell apart. Ivy's mum would always tell her it had nothing to do with her. She knew she wasn't the cause of it directly but her dad was never as eager to have children as her mum was.
She saw the pictures of her mum and dad when her mum was pregnant with her. Her mum always looked so excited, her dad did too but he wasn't ready for it.
The last straw for Ivy was when they would get physical with each other. She would hate overhearing their arguments and still managed to hear every word they said to each other no matter how hard her mum tried to keep her dad quiet in an attempt to not disturb her.
But when Ivy saw her dad smash a wine bottle against the wall out of anger that was when she realised she was no longer safe there.
She stayed over at Ashton's for nearly three months before her mum decided to move away from Australia, leaving everything behind - even her daughter - and moved to London.
Ivy never held any resentment toward her mother until she moved to the other side of the world with very little notice.
She had to hear it from Ashton's mum which stung. A lot. She couldn't even have the decency to call and tell her.
She cut ties with her mum and dad after all of that and hasn't looked back since.
There was a lot of damage done to the girl. She was only sixteen at the time and was already confused and pressured enough with exams.
She was supposed to have lots of great friends, go to parties and drink for the first time, hook up with random guys and take long walks on the beach in the summertime.
But instead, she had her headphones at full volume to block out all the shouting, and she would watch as her tears fell on the pages of her favourite romance novels.
She always longed for a love like the ones in her books, they seemed so perfect in the good times and even in the bad time they would figure it out together and get their perfect happily ever after.
It didn't take long for her to realise that it was strictly fiction, nothing like that could be real life.
There was a small amount of hope left in her, but it was tiny and even if she was to fall for someone it would take a lot of self battle for her to come to terms with it due to the damage from witnessing the train wreck of her parents relationship.
The one thing she did get from her daydreams was the great friends.
"Ashton, why does Ivy never join us?" Calum asks, curious as to why the beautiful and timid girl never really joins in on their conversations. If she is there she would sit on her favourite armchair, daydreaming about something. It was quite obvious she was always deep in thought, longing for something better to come from her life.
"She's scared of you guys," Ashton stated plainly. She wasn't scared of them per se but she was somewhat nervous to be around them. It was nothing they'd ever done, they just seemed complete opposites. They were in many ways but they're closer than ever now.
"Scared of us?" Michael asked, sitting up more, his eyebrows furrowed.
"Well, not scared. She's just... I don't know. She feels out of place I guess." Ashton shrugged.
"Well tell her we wanna see more of her cause from what we've heard from you she's the most amazing person in the world." Luke smiled at Ashton, recalling the many conversations they'd have about the girl.
"She is," Ashton looked at his hands, smiling and nodding. He claimed she was the best thing to ever happen to him.
Just as they were talking about her she came into the kitchen, opposite the living room, getting a glass of water for herself. "Ives?" Ash turned to her.
She lifted her head at the mention of the nickname Ashton gave her when they were young. "Do you guys need anything?"
"No, no. Come sit with us," Ashton patted the spot next to him and Ivy walked over to them, happily sitting and listening to them talk about what songs they wanted to write and the dreams they had for the band.
"What do you think, Ivy?" Michael asked her and she lifted her head, looking toward him, completely clueless as to what they were talking about.
She was too busy thinking about her situation at home.
She felt included with them, even if she just sat and listened. "Do you think we're ready to book a gig?"
"Yeah, of course. You all sound really good from what I've heard," Ivy smiled, glancing at Luke.
She noticed he didn't talk much and she thought it was because she was there.
It was, just not in the way she thought...
He was entranced by her. He couldn't tear his eyes away from her and how Ashton described her made him more enchanted by her. She was living up to the very high expectations Ashton had set.
And she was beautiful too, her rosy cheeks and hazel eyes matched her personality perfectly. It seemed as if she was crafted so carefully that everything fit her personality perfectly. She looked so perfect.
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
They walked into the ice cream shop, Luke holding the door open for everyone.
Ashton's arm was draped over Ivy's shoulder, resting his head against hers. She looked so cosy all bundled up in Michael's huge puffer jacket, a weird scene in Australia for summer. She also had Luke's sunglasses perched upon her head which earned a few strange looks combined with the jacket.
"Why do you even have this on, it's so warm," Ashton laughed at the girl beside him.
"I'm a cold person, Ash. You should know this by now." It was true, she was always freezing.
"You three go get a seat, me and Luke will get the ice cream," Ashton said, letting go of Ivy, Calum instead, linking their arms together.
They found a space in one of the booths, Ashton sliding in next to Ivy, Calum and Michael sitting opposite them.
Michael glanced over at both of the boys, ordering what they all usually get. "Why does Luke stand like that?" Michael smiled, looking at both of the boys.
They all turned to look at the two boys, he and Ash looked so out of place in the pastel themed ice cream shop. Their dark clothes clashed tremendously with the soft coloured decorations.
Ashton had on his black patchwork jacket that Ivy had gotten him and black jeans.
Luke had on a red and black plaid shirt, the few top buttons were undone to show off his new necklace that he got at some market Ivy and Calum dragged him to. Luke was so tall and lanky, his broad shoulders would be intimidating to anyone.
They walked over with the ice creams, placing them all down on the table, Luke situated himself in front of Ivy, beside Michael and Ivy was sandwiched between Calum and Ashton.
They talked and talked until there was nothing else to discuss. It was late into the night when they got back to the house, so late that the ice cream shop had to kick them out because they were closing for the day.
Luke opened the door, shoving the keys into his back pocket as they walked through the hallway, everyone dispersing into different areas of the house.
Michael and Calum went off to play Mario Kart and Luke, Ashton and Ivy went through to the kitchen.
Ivy got a glass out of the cupboard, pouring herself some water. "I'm gonna go to bed now," Ivy said quietly, scurrying over to the two boys, pulling them in for a hug, and saying goodnight.
She quickly passed by the living room to say goodnight to the other two, earning a mumble from them both in unison. Ivy rolled her eyes and went behind them, giving them both a kiss on the cheek. Michael smiled and let out a cute giggle while Calum kissed her on the cheek back.
"I'm gonna got to bed too," muttered Luke, leaving the kitchen with a yawn. Ashton smiled, wished him a goodnight and went to sit with Michael and Calum.
"Ivy?"
"Yeah," Ivy turned to see the tall dirty blonde in the doorway of her and Calum's shared bathroom.
"Doesn't matter," he brushed off what he was going to say, partially forgetting, the tiredness taking over his mind. "Goodnight." He walked up to her while she brushed her teeth, giving her a tight hug.
"See you in the morning, Luke." Ivy smiled as he left, rubbing his eyes, already taking his jeans off, obviously becoming uncomfortable.
Ivy rolled her eyes and smiled at him, finishing up brushing her teeth, and quickly washing her face before climbing into bed with a loose shirt on.
The sound of Luke's singing from down the hallway helped her fall asleep.

Lie To Me - 1 | Prologue
Luke was leaning against the wall of Ivy and Calum’s bedroom doorframe, his arms crossed across his bare chest, admiring the way Ivy’s hazel eyes glided across the pages of her book, taking in every single word.
Luke has always noticed the littlest details about her, how she likes her tea in the morning different from how she takes it at night, the way her eyes squint when reading things that she doesn't quite understand the first time - even though she has perfect vision. He realises how her lips look fuller and her eyes look more vibrant and glassier late at night than any other time of the day.
Ivy didn’t even notice Luke was standing there, she was too entranced in the soft, quiet music playing from Calum’s speaker and the printed words on the hundreds of pages. Luke had lost track of how many minutes he’d been standing there, also being submerged in the music that Cal had left playing while he’d gone downstairs.
Calum, Ashton and Michael were downstairs, no doubt playing video games from the amount of shouting and screaming that could be heard despite it being the early hours of the morning, quite obviously drunk from how much rowdier they usually were. Ivy was the only one who hadn't drunk tonight, she normally would but everything seemed so peaceful tonight and she wanted to savour it.
Their neighbours hated them and made it very apparent. No one could blame them. They were a really noisy bunch with all the instruments, music and video games.
“Ivy,” Luke whispered as he ventured into their room deeper, making sure that Ivy was at the end of the chapter she was reading to not disrupt her trance too much.
She hummed in response, placing the book on her bedside table whilst feeling the bed dip at her feet. Luke was shirtless as usual, his broad shoulders and muscular back on full display. Ivy was wearing a tank top and the matching shorts that Ashton had bought her for her Birthday a while back.
She adored the set and its soft and lightweight material brought her immense amounts of comfort. Ivy always made sure she was the one to wash them in case one of the other boys washed them at the wrong temperature or shrunk them somehow.
It was a calm and tame summer night in Sydney, Australia. The moon was full and bright, lighting up the night sky vibrantly, radiating a silver ring around the huge sphere in the sky. It was truly a beautiful sight accompanied by the stars dotted around it.
“Do you want me to tell them to shut up so you can have a little peace?” Ivy could tell from how glossed over his eyes were that he was slightly drunk and very tired from how low his voice was.
“No, it's alright. I quite like their noise, to be honest.” Ivy flashes him her breathtaking smile and he nods, understanding completely what she meant, it's quite comforting to hear them laughing and screaming downstairs or from their rooms.
Luke and Ivy were the quiet ones in their group but they loved the entertainment and loud nature that the others had. “Calum will be up soon I would imagine,” she kept her voice low and quiet despite the loud noises from downstairs. She preferred to have a quieter and more peaceful atmosphere when with Luke, it was what fitted their dynamic best.
He was more of a sit back quietly and observe type of guy, always has been. When Ivy first met him she thought he hated her because he was so quiet and didn’t speak much but now Luke is who Ivy is closest with besides Ashton.
Ashton and Ivy have been friends for years, since the start of high school. Ashton was the one to introduce everyone to each other.
Ashton and Ivy went to a different school than the other guys and Ashton met Luke, Michael and Calum by starting the band. Ivy was their number one supporter and decided to drop out of school and go on tour with them. Everywhere they went, she went and they all loved it that way.
They were currently on their 3-month break from tour, back home in Sydney. Everything seemed so much more peaceful and settled now than they were back home but they all loved the buzz of packing and leaving, the screaming crowds and the constant change.
It could be quite exhausting at times but they wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.
Luke hummed, suddenly growing extremely tired and wrapping his arms around Ivy’s waist, pressing his face against her chest.
Ivy laughed the tiniest bit, “You’re such a baby, Luke.” She ran her hand through his hair, damp from the pool and shower, lightly grazing his forehead which he loved, humming and burying his face further in her chest.
“Your tits make a nice pillow,” Luke chuckles and he can feel Ivy’s chest vibrate beneath his chest as she laughs and Luke lifts his head, giving her a sleepy smile. The sight in front of her made her stomach flutter. Ivy adored when Luke was tired, he was so much more delicate and sweet in the later hours of the day.
She moves further up the bed, readjusting the pillows to get more comfortable with him. Luke always has been and always will be an extremely affectionate person. There was nothing he loved more than someone running their fingers through his hair, there was nothing more comforting to him, especially when it was Ivy. There was something about her demeanour that was so tender and tranquil to him.
His eyes became heavier by the second, his long eyelashes brushing Ivy’s soft olive skin lightly. “Can I just stay in here for the night?”
“Of course,” Ivy said as she grazed his jaw with her fingers, Luke hummed again at the sensation, in pure bliss.
Ivy wanted him to stay. She loved the feeling of his warm skin against hers. His arms were secured under her, his fingers splayed across his back and his other hand laid on her hip, scrunching the fabric of her shorts between his fingers, playing with the waistband of her shorts, his thumb rubbing delicate circles on her thigh.
Luke wasn’t thinking straight from how tired he was and Ivy was shocked at how his hand caressed her thigh so delicately, sure she was used to him cuddling up on the couch but the furthest it went was laying on her chest with his arms dangling by her sides.
But now, it felt more intimate. Ivy blamed it on the alcohol in his system and his sleepiness. He was a sappy and emotional drunk and even when he was sober he sought out affection wherever he could get it.
And with Ivy, he loved it, even more than anyone else. He loved the guys and how they would huddle up together on the couch from time to time but there was something about how soft and delicate Ivy was compared to him that he loved.
He loved the way her frame was much smaller than his and the way she would trace shapes on his back, scratching the broad and smooth skin of his shoulders.
And also, especially at that moment, his tipsy mind was taking over as he indulged in the fact that the small tight tank top she was wearing wasn’t hiding anything, making it plain as day that under the thin fabric she was wearing nothing.
Normally he wouldn’t even bat an eyelid at that fact but if he was being completely honest with himself he was deprived of female attention, not because he couldn’t get any but because he didn’t seek any or care for it too much.
“Luke?” Ivy glanced down at him as he ran his hands along her sides delicately, being careful to be light with his motions. He hummed, not tearing his eyes away from the sight in front of him of how perfectly his hands fit around her.
She was confused about where this came from. He had never been like this with her before, and he was gentle with her and she would be lying if she said she didn’t enjoy it.
He whimpered, his eyes shutting in pure bliss, his head falling to her chest as Ivy lightly tugged at his hair, smoothing the strands away from his face, looking at his beautiful ocean blue eyes. “You know, I’ve always loved your eyes, Luke, since the first day I met you,” Ivy whispered, hoping she could get a better look at them as he tilted his head up toward her to see her gaze fixated on him.
Her words pulled at his heart in the best but worst way possible.
“You have the cutest nose I’ve ever fucking seen,” Luke said, his voice quiet and it was prominent he was fighting sleep.
“You’re tired, Luke. Get some sleep,” Ivy started stroking his hair again and he went back to his original position on her chest, closing his eyes. He indulged in the heavenly feeling of Ivy’s nails lightly scratching his scalp as he drifted off to sleep.
This night was very unusual but special and neither of them would protest it ever happening again. It was blissful, confusing and conflicting with Ivy’s thoughts all at the same time.
Ivy was relieved that the boys had finally gone quiet, worried that they would have disrupted his peaceful slumber, though not even a marching band could wake Luke at this point, not with Ivy’s fingers tangled through his dishevelled wavy hair.
Calum appeared in the room, roughly tidying his clothes and clutter off of his bed to make room to sleep in it.
It drove Ivy insane the fact that Calum was so messy, he wasn't dirty though. She could deal with messy and clutter but dirty and grubby is where she draws the line.
She was quite glad that all of the boys were much cleaner than the regular teenage boy, though sometimes she had to encourage Michael and Ashton to take showers, it was only late nights after shows when they were sweaty and too tired to be bothered about hygiene.
“Do you want me to take him through for you?” Calum kept his voice quiet, gesturing towards Luke and Ivy shook her head.
“No, he wanted to sleep here tonight.” Ivy looked down at him, sweeping his hair away from his face to see his face while he slept contently.
“Okay, just tell him it's a one-off when he wakes up, I already have to deal with his snoring through the walls.”
“He’s not that bad, Ash is the worst.” Ivy laughed quietly and Luke stirred in his sleep, moving his hand from Ivy’s thigh to her shoulder, hugging her tighter.
Calum turned off his speaker and climbed under his bed covers. “Goodnight, Ivy.”
“G’night Cal,” Ivy whispered across to him and gave her hand one last run-through of Luke’s hair before falling fast asleep, Luke’s soft breathing and the feel of his soft dirty blonde hair fanning against her neck and chest sending her into a harmonious slumber.
