#technically the first movie I remember seeing in theaters was wall-e #but I have much more vivid memories of seeing brave in theaters a couple years later #I do remember my younger sister falling asleep when we watched wall-e #she’s still never seen it all the way through

Didn’t realize how badly I’ve been hyperfixated on Reed Richards until I got an ache in my chest over characters being mean to him. Of all the characters to blorbo-fy, this is so embarrassing, I’m going underground.

the humble "like" is oft mocked despite what it does for us. "like, three people" is a vastly different statement from "three people". "and i was like 'what the fuck'" is vastly different from "and i said 'what the fuck'". i love you "like" and anyone who says you make people sound stupid will be killed on sight

Going slightly insane about blorbos again, but people on Twitter were discussing Mark Waid’s depiction of Doctor Doom again. Waid’s depiction is notoriously uncharitable to Doom, even by the typical standard of him being a narcissistic dictator and it’s always been pretty split between people who like his depiction of Doom and those who don’t, but I’ve been thinking more about it and I think I just fundamentally disagree with Waid’s take on Doom’s motivation.

Waid has written about the angle he took on all the major FF characters while he was writing his run, and he describes it as “whose entire motivating force is jealousy” and I actually disagree! Like yes don’t get me wrong, his jealousy of Reed is one of his defining traits, one of his defining motivations, if he’s trying to kill the FF it’s because he hates Reed. But he also just has other things going on. Trying to get his mother back is most prominent, but I don’t think him staging a coup and becoming Latveria’s dictator has very much to do with Reed personally. Doom faced extreme oppression growing up because of his class and race, he lost basically everything, in a telling of his origin he essentially becomes Robin Hood in Latveria, scamming the rich to give to the poor before he comes to America on a scholarship. He had already been subjected to the things that would warp his views, he’s full of righteous rage because of it and a lot of that narcissism seems to come from that taste of power he got from his intellect while justified trying to survive. To me his obsession with Reed reads as a symptom of what was already there, not the driving force, and that’s the thing that makes it tragic and not just petty (though it’s also that).

7, 38, 21!

7 is Franklin Richards. I don’t really ever read stories specifically looking for him, but of course he’s going to appear in Fantastic Four comments no matter how big his role is. The retcon that made him no longer a mutant was recently retconned back out and that issue is a ton of fun. My favorite story with him is probably the short Waid era arc that had him accidentally unleash the villain of it because he was insecure and felt like Reed didn’t love him because he’s not super smart. It’s a fun arc with a really sweet resolution between the two.

21 is Spider-Man. Who I also mostly read as a by product of Fantastic Four comics. My deep seated confession here is that I actually don’t think I’ve ever read a single Spider-Man issue, I’ve only ever read him in FF and Silk. I love his relationship with Johnny though, and the issue of DeFalco’s FF run where he cheers Johnny up with sparring (and causes property damage in the process) is a really nice issue in a run I otherwise have deeply mixed feelings on.

38 is Alan Scott, specifically as Sentinel. Most of his Sentinel appearances I’ve read come from the Kyle Rayner GL run, I love him there. I think taking advantage of the death of the Corps as a rare opportunity to push Alan as a more prominent character and mentor was a smart move and I love his dynamic with Kyle. If his Sentinel and Green Lantern appearances were combined he’d be ranked around where Spidey is.

roy’s whole pitch to dick at the start of outsiders is so fucking funny when you actually think about it. bc it’s like:
