this would normally be part of the original post or a reblog but i forgot you can't add a video directly in a reblog so here's the partial timelapse of the first drawing in the last post. if you remember that simon art from may, there was one drawing i kind of painted for by just picking a color, sometimes lowering the opacity, and working from there, instead of using any kind of blending brush (haven't found one i vibe with in krita yet). i wanted to expand on that process for a while, and finally did here. it's been different after using one brush that Did blend (very nicely might i say) for however long in csp, but in a refreshing, enjoyable way
frankly i like the things i learned while making this more than the result itself and i wasnt really sure i even wanted to post it in part due to that but if i do keep iterating on the process i used during it, i feel this is valuable context
oh also before i forget: the sketch was done using this brush instead of the one i made earlier

so it turns out doing art requests is like. extremely not a thing i'm good at lol. between overthinking what i was doing and juggling other non-art things, i ended up just kind of getting nowhere with them (as well as with personal works, due to feeling awkward about not working on something else). i opened up requests impulsively and didn't realize just how severely i misjudged my availability and just general ability to work on them until i tried to actually do them and found myself struggling with them more than usual. to the people who sent in requests, i'm sorry for not really being able to deliver, but thank you for showing interest in my work regardless ๐ maybe some years down the line i'll be more ready to commit to something like this but it turns out this simply did not work out
even though i've never really been able to play them (whether due to not owning them or struggling with execution), fighting games have always been really close to my heart for their art and design. last week or so, i did some gesture drawings, realized it could be fun to draw some moves from memory, very quickly realized that i did not remember them very well, and ended up instead just experimenting with working in different ways and in different programs. anyways this is getting long so more thoughts and also brush details under the cut
for clarity, the gambit-esque gesture drawings were done in samsung notes and then arranged together in medibang bc samsung notes has no image editing and the alternative would have been the world's longest screenshot. the i-no and anji were both done in medibang, with the i-no being drawn using a modified version of the default pen brush, while the anji was drawn with the brush i made using the image below. the lone gesture drawing and the ky were in krita.
(left image is the original, right is the one i edited for use as a bitmap. use the bitmap option, enable pen pressure size but not opacity, and set brush spacing to something low, like 8. i have random rotate set to 100, and as of right now i have opacity set to 36% but i don't remember if it was there when i sketched that)
i actually started out using a stock image of a rock for a bitmap, but it was too fuzzy and irregular for my tastes, so i looked through some images i had on my phone for something rounder, since that's closer to my krita brush, and this is what i ended up trying next. i really wish i did it sooner bc this is exactly what i needed. it was the One thing making medibang just not feel that great to use. it's probably just because i remember how i felt making them but i really think you can See how i'm immediately more comfortable when i can sketch with something a little looser
meanwhile, the gesture sketch (it was very vaguely based on a move sol has but i don't remember if it actually looks like that) and the ky were done in krita, before the anji and i-no, but after the gambits. tried to do some lineart but it didn't land so then i tried just coloring right over it and i didn't really like that either so it didn't get finished but outside of realizing his face (especially his chin, damn how did this happen ๐ญ) is long as fuck i think i liked the sketch ๐ but here are those two phases anyways
also i've been trying krita's timelapse so here's that canvas's history. bit fast tbh, might make later ones slower
happy pride month, everyone! i've been drawing a lot more recently, as you've probably seen, and i've been enjoying the direction my work is going in general. so, i wanted to try something. i would like to take some art requests, specifically to do with lgbtq+ subjects (tis the season)
disclaimers (for lack of a better word) and other conditions detailed under the cut
CLOSED
i'm not particularly fast (it might take some days for something to get done)
i reserve the right to simply not do a request for any reason, including but not limited to: "my hands hurt so i'm taking it easy", "i don't think i can fulfill this request satisfactorily", and "i'm simply not interested in doing it". no hard feelings, but it's my time, my effort, and my blog. you understand, i think ๐
you can request things like characters who are lgbtq+ (headcanon or otherwise. and feel free to specify design headcanons too!) or drawing ideas to do with lgbtq+ identities (something like, for example, "two male hummingbirds huddled together on a tree branch and colored using a rainbow palette". be as descriptive as you want, but try not to get too complex. expect the result to be relatively simple)
you can request your ocs! please provide visual reference if possible, however. my brain is a little silly so if i'm left to just kind of guess at details, it might end up different from what you're expecting from me just misinterpreting things
probably goes without saying but hateful behavior and sentiments aren't going to be given the time of day. i'm not interested in any form of di///sco//urse (attempting to avoid people searching the word directly), this is just something i want to do for fun
in that same vein, actually, please try to keep things light in terms of tone. the world is scary right now, so i'm not particularly jazzed about drawing something gruesome or depressing. please be niceys ๐
i'm still going to be working on my own things. this is basically a reiteration of the first point, but i feel it's worth mentioning that i'm not planning on exactly becoming an art request machine for the month. expect this to be a side-ish thing by default
i plan to post requested art as a reply to requests sent through the ask box (and please just Only the ask box. i'd like things to be in one place), but you can also send asks if you want clarification on anything mentioned here (or not mentioned! i might have glossed over a detail that needs further elaboration without even noticing it)
i would say anticipate receiving a cleaner "sketch" or "colored sketch" (see tags, linked) drawing as a baseline, maybe with some shading, but i might take it further if i really enjoy how the piece is going
you can use the requested art as things like icons or banners, but please provide credit somewhere. i'm just a little guy!
esteemed tag readers, this is what i was alluding to last post. making a full-on original character again after however many years and personally i think ive made some major artistic strides these past few months, including while i was drawing him, that helped these feel fulfilling to work on (though also the fact that i was struggling with sleep at the time probably was a factor). havent really settled on a name yet, but his concept is "cursed werewolf except the curse is something else". i decided the "something else" was fire and his goal is, by some means or another, to rid himself of it
oh by the way the one looking up probably isn't him ultimately but it was the drawing that kicked off the session where i drew most of these so i thought it should also be here
would have liked to do one big piece for splatoon's 8th anniversary but i simply did not have it in me. i did have it in me, however, to do a bunch of splatsona doodles in the dead of night
