Need to read some fic where Law is the one who falls HARD and instantly, while Luffy takes a while.Â
Law full on pining from day 1 while Luffyâs like âhaha youâre so weird but your bearâs coolâ
Law convincing himself that just being close to Luffy during their alliance is enough, treasuring every moment bc he knows Luffy doesnât feel the same. All the straw hats pitying him and/or outright hostile towards him bc heâs transparent as fuck
Luffy being like âIâm busy becoming the pirate king traffyâs cool I like him but heâs not my crewâ and law accepting that and thinking itâs for the best, he doesnât have a good track record keeping loved ones alive anyway.
Law devoting himself mind body and soul to luffy after Dressrosa, knowing even then that Luffyâs going to be pirate king and law will do anything to make that happen because he wants luffy to have the freedom lawâs never felt
And luffy, despite what everyone seems to think, heâs not dumb. He knows how law feels. He doesnât GET it, just like he doesnât get why Boa Hancock feels that way, or why he has a fan club, but he does know how law feels about him.
And maybe itâs not until after egghead that something changes. Maybe itâs when Luffy realises that Teach HAS Law, and he gets more upset than people expect. When he goes after Black beard with a fury even he doesnât understand
And I dunno, maybe Luffyâs never felt love this way before, can recognise it in others but not in himself because itâs all new, but when he gets law back, beaten and tortured in the name of the eternal life surgery, Luffy canât let him out of his sight.
Almost maniacally, carries law all around the sunny like a soother, law barely conscious as chopper is desperately trying to tend to his injuries but luffy just feels WEIRD without law in his arms. Heâs being petulant and stubborn about it because heâs not processing WHY he feels this way.Â
And law comes back to himself slowly and is equally confused. Feels undeserving for this weird questionable kindness of being dragged all over like a favourite stuffed animal while, again, chopper is BEGGING luffy to leave law in the infirmary
It goes on for days, until law finally tells luffy to for the love of god put him down, and luffy says âI WONâT I CANâT something BAD will happen againâ and Law has to stiltedly assure him that no, it really wonât. He goes on a tangent about compulsions that luffy clearly ignores
And to law this is a special sort of hell because he LOVES this. Knows this is the luffy version of being doted on,and feels entirely undeserving. Heâs knocked luffy off course of becoming the pirate king, his one dream. Law canât be the reason that doesnât happen
But Luffy keeps not letting him go, until Law has to FORCE the issue âSTRAW HAT YA PUT ME DOWNâ only for luffy to say âNO I FEEL WEIRD YOUâRE MAKING ME FEEL WEIRD AND I DONâT GET IT, YOUâRE MAKING ME NERVOUSâ
heâs throwing a whole mini tantrum on the middle of the deck on the Sunny where everyone is pointedly looking away as if they canât hear. And Law, equally unable to understand the situation, says, âWELL HOW DO YOU THINK *i* FEELâ
And maybe thatâs when it clicks for Luffy. Ohhhhhh this is how law felt all that time? Like uncomfy bad nervous and upset tummy? THATâS what this is?Â
âTraffy is this LOVE?âhe asks, VERY loudly.Â
And law, turning beet red, says âno!! Itâs not!! Put me down!!â
Because law has known luffy in some form or another for three years at this point and law has loved him for all of it and therefore he is WELL AWARE that luffy doesnât love him back, so this is clearly something else. PTSD, probably. OCD, definitely.
But then , because all of the straw hats ARE there, Franky yells, âdonât listen to him, little bro! Thatâs definitely love!âÂ
And law chokes, starts struggling to be put down, ears BURNING and face in flames. âNo itâs NOTâ he yells.
âTraffy,â Luffy says, a deep frown on his face as his arms wind again and again around lawâs middle. âI think frankyâs right.âÂ
âHeâs not,â law seethes, struggling against the rubber boa constrictor arms. â You CANâT like me, youâre going to be PIRATE KING.â
Luffy looks up at him. âSo what?â He asks, genuinely confusedÂ
âYou canât TIE YOURSELF DOWN to THIS,â law says, furtively motioning to himself. âYouâre the freest man in the world, you canât be tied down to someone who couldnât even beat black beard.â
Luffy studies him. He thinks REALLY hard, tilting his head and observing lawâs expressions go through the five phases of grief. Then he says âthatâs dumb, Traffy. Being free means I can choose whatever I want, and I want you.â
Which is, like, something law never let himself think about. So he doesnât know how to respond. It doesnât make SENSE. Luffy is everything, is freedom and joy, and law is a man whoâs failed every important person in his life.
But luffy IS free to choose, is the thing. And law long ago vowed to do whatever he could to make him pirate king, so.Â
ââŠfine, straw hat-ya. I think you will change your mind, but I wonât stand in your way.â
Luffy laughs. âThatâs a weird way to say youâll be my boyfriend, traffy,â he says.Â
And then he gives law the worst, most wet kiss in history. All the straw hats in the vicinity cover their ears in embarrassment.

One piece made me write fanfictions again đ« I'll leave here this Shanks/Buggy fic for your enjoyment. (English is not my first language so excuse me for mistakes ans such, I tried my best I wrote this the night before a uni exam)
.
âMay I join you?â the voice was calm, it was hiding a smile, he was sure of that, but he was too lost in his thoughts to actually think why this stranger was so happy to join him in a drink âsure, why not?â replied Buggy without looking in their direction. He just wanted to finish his drink and go to sleep, he didnât have the time and the will to interact with other living beings. For what it concerns him that couldâve be the voice of a marine coming for his bounty, he obviously wouldâve fought for his life, but for once he wouldn't had start it.
âI see thereâs things that never changesâŠâ said the voice âYou still drink dry whiskey when something is bothering your mindâŠâ now a tiny laugh escaped the lips of said stranger, but it wasnât a mockery, it was like a laugh you make when you remember something from a distant past âyour brows still frown the same way they used toâ the tone now was gentle âI missed you, Buggy.â BuggyâŠthe way the sound of his name escaped from that lips was so familiar to the clown he almost choked on his drink. That cannot be. It C A N N O T be. How? How it was possible? How he finds him every time he is at his worst? Buggyâs sure he had spies.
The silence was pregnant, like it was something unsaid that the voice was dying to say but it didnât.
Buggy slowly released the glass, almost empty, on the table, he took a really deep breath, trying to gather all his energy, and then he turned in the direction of the voice.
âShanks.â The name was said with a sharp tone. How he dared to came to him and say I missed you, Buggy like they were friends, how he dared to waltz again in his life like this? May I join you? Buggy repeated in a mockery way in his mind blahblahblah he continued in his mind trying to make fun of Shanks. Buggy proceed for a few seconds with this weird conversation and when his gaze focused again on Shanks he seemed to know what was going on.
âDonât mind at me, finish your conversation.â Shanks tiny laugh made Buggy so angry. Why he was there? How he had found him?
âWhat do you want, Red-Hair?â
âWhat? I canât fancy a drink with an old mate of mine?â Shanks, finally took a seat next Buggy and ordered a glass of rum to the bartender âIt seems like the ocean keeps bringing us in each otherâs way, itâs funny, donât you think?â
âNo.â replied Buggy annoyed. The OceanâŠ.funny bleh! He again mocked Shanks in his mind.
Donât get him wrong in his own way Buggy was almost happy to see Shanks, every time he sees him something inside him wakes and he is again on Rogerâs ship laughing and fighting for the king of pirates, if he concentrated enough, he couldâve almost feel the sea breeze and the voice of his old crew mates in the distance.
Sometimes Buggy misses that time or betterâŠsometimes Buggy misses Shanks.
But Buggy canât admit that to himselfâŠnot yet at least.
âSoâŠâ said Shanks after taking a sip from his glass âHowâs things?â
Buggy ordered another glass of whiskey he cannot proceed with this conversation without alcohol âYou donât really want to knowâ
Shanks took a big sip from his glass and for a brief of a second he stared at the almost empty cup âI just wanted to talk with you, like the old timesâ he took a deep breath and started to focus on Buggy again. He really donât know what he was missing about the clown, it was a strange mixture of emotions, emotions that never left him since Rogerâs days. Buggy was hisâŠpartner in crime, his friend and maybe something else? Every time he sees him he sees the same reckless child who just wanted to live an adventurous life and get rich, he sees the same kid who used to climb on the main deck to see the stars. He missed the way they used to bickering all day while at night they laughed till the break of dawn. He just missed passing the days with him, but he thought that maybe it wasnât the same for Buggy.
Shanks never was the romantic kind of guy, but in some ways he was afraid to tell this to the old friend, was he afraid of a rejection? And so the words kept dying on the tip of his tongue leaving behind a silence that was gradually becoming heavy and heavier.
Sometimes Shanks thinks he could have fell in love with BuggyâŠbut Shank canât admit that yet.
âI donât know if I want to talk with you, Shanksâ he was tired, really tired and he was doing nothing to hide it âI have nothing to say you.â He started to feel his cheeks heating up, maybe he had enough whiskey for the night, but the presence of Shanks made him feel uneasy, he was afraid that he might lose control if he dared to low his guard.
âStill angry at me?â
âAngry at you? Iâm furious at you!â now Buggyâs voice was full of anger and resentment, his eyes were starting to get wet cause of angerâŠmaybe he really had too many whiskeys âYou stole from me the occasion to be someone important! You know how hard it was to re-start from zero once âRogerâs Adventureâ was over?â he drunk a big sip âYou have no ideaâŠhow could you?â Buggy laughed âYou were Rogerâs pupil, the next âKing of the Piratesâ, he chose you that day!â he increased the voice âAnd now you choose that guyâŠwhatâs his name? Rufus?â
âRuffyâŠâ Shanks corrected. Not a single emotion, besides a weird kind of guilt, was his face showing.
âItâs. Not. Important.â Buggy replied drinking another sip making his glass empty once again. âI'm tired of this weird thing we haveâŠâ Buggy tighten his grip on the glass and ordered another. Was he jealous of that Straw Hat kid? âWhy can you just leave me go?â Was he angry cause Shanks once again didnât choose him? Buggyâs voice was just a whisper, almost lost in the chaos of the rickety tavern. He doesnât want to cry because it was the effect of the alcohol, he didnât want to make a fool of himself in front of other pirates and he didnât want to show Shanks that deep down he cared.
He knew damn well that that day he was the one who refused to join Shanksâs crew, but how he couldâve accepted that proposal? How couldâve did that knowing that things were never going to be the same between them?
Was he now thinking at that choice as a mistake?
Buggy never in his life looked back at his choices, he was a very impulsive man, but nowâŠShanks was there and he was staying there with him, he was starting to think that maybe that day he shouldâve accepted that proposal, maybe he shouldâve became his vice-captainâŠmaybe he couldâve stayed there a little longer just to remember how it was like having Shanks by his side during a lonely night.
He internally shook his head, maybe his thoughts werenât so right anymore, maybe he shouldâve stopped drinking and just came back to his ship where Alvida was probably waiting to mock him in some ways.
He emptied his glass in one big sip and left some berries for the bartender and he got up from his stool, but when was about to make the first step he felt a tight grip on his wrist pulling him back
âPlease, stayâ said Shanks. It was so strange seeing a man like him so vulnerable, but that was the only word Buggy wouldâve use to describe his voice in that moment.
âStay with meâŠjust tonightâŠâ it was a whisper only Buggy couldâve heard, it was such an intimate request âDonât goâ for moment it was like they were the only two inside that tavern, all the world disappeared around them. Donât go was echoing in Buggyâs mind Stay, was the mighty Shanks asking him something?
âI canâtâ saying that word hurt Buggy in so many ways he couldnât understood âI canâtâ repeat more for himself than for Shanks
âWhy?â
âCause were not kids anymoreâ
Sometimes Buggy misses being kids on a pirate ship with Shanks, but he canât say that out loud
Sometimes Shanks misses sneaking in the galley with Buggy just to stay alone with him, but they couldnât do that anymore
Buggy thought that would be so easy for him to free himself from that grip by using his power, but something was making him stay, he was sure it wasnât Shanks pulling him with more force, so why he was still there in this awkward silence while all the patrons were gradually leaving the tavern drunken as a lord? He really wanted to leave Shanks there, he begged every part of his body to get awayâŠbut he couldnâtâŠit seemed like couldnât leave Shanksâs again, at least not there.
Why every time Shanks came back in his life his brain had to stop working like that? Usually itâs so easy mocking him and be mad at him for something happened so many year ago, while Shanks laughed at him, but tonight? He tried, he really tried, but he was so tired and his body just gave up and decided to surrender to all that emotions that Buggy thought he had left in that distant past when he hopped in a future with Shanks by his side.
âLetâs be it againâŠjust for tonightâ Shanks replied âGimme something to came back to when all of this will be overâ
âWhat are you talking about?â
âBuggy, please, came to see the stars with meâ
That request left Buggy astonished. He never really stopped to look at the stars in years, since he was a thing he used to do with Shanks he preferred leaving that in the past with everything else, too much pain, too much memories of a past he wasnât sure he wanted to miss.
But tonightâŠmaybe it was still the alcohol talking, but tonight he wouldâve loved to look at the stars with him again, how bad couldâve be for him?
ââŠsure, why not?â
For a brief of a moment they were both again on the Oro Jackson, sneaking on the main deck, trying to not be found by Rayleigh, in the middle of the night, giggling like two little kids, just to see the most bright star in the sky making promises about a future together. Once again on the Oro Jacksons where everything was really made of gold, even the memories. How couldâve Buggy put all of that aside for so many years? Just thinking about that times filled him with such joy, he was so careless, they both were, he wouldâve love to came back to that time just for a moment to made them forever still.
Buggy didnât know how they got out of that tavern, too busy getting lost in that memories he thought he had forever forget. âItâs like when we were kidsâ said Shanks before sitting on the grass. Shanks was acting weird for Buggy, more weird than usual, but maybe he was just feeling nostalgic? And to be honest Buggy was starting to be too drunk to care about other stuff beside what was happening in that moment.
Buggy took place near Shanks, and he took off his hat letting his hair fell free on in his shoulders. A pleasant sea breeze hit his face and he closed his eyes to enjoy it, he missed being drunk with Shanks even though he was the only one drunk and Shanks was just being weird. He let himself fell on the ground, just for tonight he wouldâve let his guard low, he didnât want to leave the Oro Jackson anytime soon.
âOld age started to creeping on you?â asked Shanks letting himself go to a childish laugh.
âShut up, my head started to acheâ
âYouâre getting old, Buggyâ Shanks laid on the ground
âSo are you, Red-Hairâ
âBut Iâm not the one lying half drunk on wet grassâ he was still laughing, but it was a tender one. Shanks was enjoying every moment of that, he really missed all of this and having it again, even for just a night, was like healing old wounds he didnât remember to have âYouâll be so waist tomorrow, how many did you have before I came?â
âDonât remember. I was there drinking all night, couldnât stand Alvida any longerâ groaned Buggy.
âIf I knew it took you some glasses of Whiskey to talk to me like this, I wouldâve made you drink silly soonerâ Shanks was happy, so happy he might have wanted to do something, something stupid they used to do now and then when they were kidsâŠbut Buggy was right, they werenât kids anymore and things now had other meanings. But how it was possible for Buggy to forget all their time together so easily? He could never forget what they had and what they couldâve had if they only stayed togetherâŠShanks still conservers all that precious memories in his heart.
There was a few minutes of silence, Shanks stared a Buggy for most of it, he kept thinking how he missed all of this and how he never wants to miss it again, but he knew that soon he wouldâve been on his ship again, before his crew mates started to get worried. The silence wasnât like the one in the tavern, it was a comfy one. Both friends just lying on the ground watching the stars just like when they were kids. Shanks started to point few of them and started to tell stories, legends he heard during his travels, Buggy, to be honest, didnât understand much, but enjoyed Shanks voice in silence.
âItâs really almost like thenâ said Buggy interrupting Shanks blathering about stars
âAlmost?â Shanks perfectly understood what his friend was saying, he knew was missing. For a moment he thought that maybe there was still hope, maybe his friend didnât forget everything. He started to get closer to Buggy, their bodies almost touching each other, Shank couldâve fell the other oneâs breath on his skin, everything was taking them back where all started. Drunk Buggy wasnât a genius, but sober Buggy wasnât either, so he let all of this happened, he had been with some women in all these years, but none of them ever made him felt that was. He tried to get even more close to Shanks, oh sober Buggy will regret all this tomorrow morning, but drunk Buggy wants to be happy againâŠjust for tonight. He deserves this.
They stayed like that, rediscovering each other bodies for what he felt like centuries. The time marked both of them, but the changes didnât seem to bother the two pirates.
âI missed you, Buggyâ
If moments before that phrase made Buggy go mad, now he smiled at that word fuck, I must be very drunk he thought. He missed Shanks, he really did, he just can let the world know. What his crewâs going to think of him if they knew what he felt and what was feeling right now for the infamous Red-Hair ShanksâŠhe could not let other people knows, but they were alone on that field, just the stars and the moon as witnesses of their sin.
Buggyâs body moved before his brain had the chance to think, before he realized his lips were touching Shankâs. This is a mistake he thought This is a HUGE mistake his brain was screaming I canât, I canât, fall for him again he was panicking maybe you never stopped falling for him a tiny voice said in his mind. This canât be true, Shanks was his enemy, this canât be right, there werenât kids anymore, this was a mistakeâŠHe continued to repeat these words in his brain while his lips kept moving on Shankâs, they tasted like rum mixed to whiskey, it was a strong taste, but it was enjoyable, and Buggy loved to enjoy it. He was getting drunk of that taste.
The kiss was timid, like he was a little boy kissing his crush for the first time, but that wasnât their firstâŠhe remembered very well when they sneaked in the galley to have some sort of privacy, it wasnât so easy thing on a pirate boat. He still remembered their first kiss, it was messy, chaotic, nothing like this one.
Shanks kissed Buggy with the same kindness, he wanted to fix this in his brain so he had something to think of during lonely nights on his ship, but it lasted just for a moment cause the Red-hair started to kiss the clown with passion, searching for the same thing they had when they were teens sneaking around Rogerâs ship, smearing all the lipstick Buggy had on his lips, cause he had no time to waste, he wanted Buggy and wanted him now. He didnât want to force anything, but he wanted to let the other know that he was ready, he was ready to pick up from where they left, he was waiting for that moment for more than twenty years and he didnât want to waste this moment. For the first time in years, he was exactly where he wanted to be.
When he got away to take breath Buggy started to laugh It was a long time since I heard him laughing thought Shanks hinting a smile
âWhatâs funny?â
âMy make-up is all over your faceâ he was still half-drunk
Shanks tried to smear off the lipstick, but he just did worse âWhy you started this? Now itâs gonna be a problem every time were gonna do stuffâ He laughed âmaking things harder was always your specialtyâ
âI always thought you liked challengesâ Buggyâs laugh became higher, but Shanks shushed him quickly with another kiss and a mere of seconds the Red-hair was on top of him, his hand on both his cheeks. Buggy detached one of his hands and started to unbuttoned Shanks shirt.
This was a mistake, both knew, but that night was made for mistakes so why not? That night was for them and them only, itâs gonna be their secret, nobody needs to knowâŠ
Sometimes Buggy and Shanks missed kissing on a pirate ship, but maybe the next time is not so far away
