Ok so Buckās behaviour in Buck, Bothered and Bewildered (7x04) is obviously yeah heās jealous and wanting attention, and plenty of people have pointed out it kinda seems like heās actually going for Eddieās attention at times (literally in the episode Tommy is surprised by it being his attention), and Iāve decided I wanna make a list of each of the scenes where heās going for some attention and who specifically I feel he wants it from.
The Hangar - obviously this is entirely for Tommyās attention, especially considering there was an entire tour we didnāt see that happened beforehand.
By the Sewers, Talking with Eddie - in this scene to me it feels like he is actually mostly thinking about Tommy here and feeling jealous of Eddie for already being close with him. But there is some feelings around Eddie as well and itās from this conversation that his feelings about the both of them get complicated and mixed up.
Talking with Maddie (1) - again his feelings are a little messy here, he knows heās definitely feeling some way about Tommy and heās thinking a lot about him and doesnāt know why considering he just met the guy like 2 weeks ago (and he also doesnāt get why Eddie seems so close with him when heās also only met him 2 weeks ago). Heās feeling strange about it all and externalising it as jealousy over Eddie and frustration at Tommy.
At the Gym - this is entirely just wanting Eddieās attention. Including when he invites Chimney for the Thursday basketball thing, in the moment heās only thinking about Eddie.
The Basketball Game - firstly I just wanna say in the lead-up to the event, after asking Chimney and during the couple days before the game, Buck is actually thinking more on Tommy, heās who his thoughts keep leading to despite him trying to be more focused on Eddie over it. And thatās confusing him. While actually there, itās a case where his mindās occupied with Eddie but his eyes keep going to Tommy. And his confusing thoughts and feelings are pissing him off a little bit (along with the general feeling of being left out), he doesnāt know whatās going on but at this point heās definitely aware that heās thinking about both men but he doesnāt know exactly what heās thinking on either of them.
Talking with Maddie (2) - heās feeling really bad about Eddie. And heās thinking and reflecting but he doesnāt yet know whose attention heās really been after. This conversation will make him continue reflecting and heās still not certain on his thoughts and feelings, but things are starting to clear and sort themselves after this.
And finallyā¦
At the Loft with Tommy - Heās still not entirely sure what heās thinking or feelings in regards to the whole situation. He feels bad, but thatās about all he can identify at first. About halfway through the conversation he starts to feel more confident, and through speaking one-on-one with Tommy (something he hasnāt actually done since the hangar) he realises his main goal to begin with was actually Tommyās focus and attention, because heās reminded of how cool Tommy is and how much he enjoys just talking with the guy. And he says as much, he says ātrying to get your attention has been kind of exhaustingā - this catches Tommy off-guard, who hadnāt realised Buck wanted his attention at all, he thought Buck solely saw him as a threat to him and Eddie relationship to one another. And then Tommy kisses him. And itās surprising but itās good and now things are very quickly starting to make sense for Buck. Why he was thinking about Tommy so much without even needing a specific reason, why he felt threatened when Eddie and Tommy were getting to be seemingly so close. Things start to click. And heās gonna keep thinking and things are gonna keep starting to click into place for a good while after that, after Tommy leaves.

Canāt we just agree that in 7x04, Buck was seeking the attention of both Eddie and Tommy but in different ways? It took Buck until the end and talking with Tommy to realize exactly why he wanted Tommyās attention, maybe even that he was looking for it at all.
I mean, you canāt dispute that he wanted Tommyās attention, he literally went to the hanger, a place he never would have expected to see Eddie at all.
It was about Eddie and Tommy both. Buck saw himself potentially getting replace by Tommy. And Eddie was getting the time with Tommy Buck had been hoping for.
Can we let this argument go? Please š„² Can we let those who love Buck and Tommy love them, let them believe their endgame whether they are or not? Can we let the Buddie truthers continue to hold onto the hope for Buddie being endgame? Can we not be so hostile and negative? Itās honestly exhausting and toxic and so unnecessary.
Can we also get a better ship name than BuckTommy because thatās terrible and lazy š

The way that Tommy looks at Buck like what he has to say is worth all of his attention.
Because he remembers that first night when Buck told him how hard he had been working to get his attention.
Buck being nervous and kinetic and just overthinking everything and Tommy just softly saying āEvanā putting his hand on top of Bucks.
Tommy ending their first date early, because Buck really didnāt seem ready, knowing it was the right thing to do, but still feeling bummed because he really liked him, a lot.
And Buck reaching out to Tommy the next day because he really did like HIM a lot too, and couldnāt just let him go without telling him he wanted to be readyā¦for somethingā¦with Tommy
Tommy telling Buck he was jealous of the 118 being a family. And Buck inviting him to the wedding..to celebrate with that family.
Buck just being Buck and wanting to spend time and be with this new very interesting person and giving zero f$cks about people having issues with it being a man.
The way Buck talks about Tommy to Maddie and Eddie. Because he just cannot contain how much he likes him. And ok, yes heās a man, but thatās not as important to Buck as how he feels about Tommy and how Tommy makes him feel.
To see these two navigate this. Because yes, this is Bucks bi-awakening, and Tommy is clearly the more experienced one.
But we all know that Buck is really good at loving the people he loves. And the 118 is really good at supporting their family.
Itās the ultimate win win. Buck will get a partner who truly sees him for who he is, values and supports him. And Tommy is going to be part of a family.

So I just finished Oliverās interview with Zach Sang and I have a few thoughts - all positive š
1. I adore Oliver - heās so well spoken, clearly loves the show and Buck, and Oliverās emotional intelligence or connection with people definitely rubbed off on Buck and made him the character he is today.
2. He is so well spoken about buck being bi and everything that comes with that - and Iām so glad as a bisexual woman, that we have Oliver being the face of this storyline and the care he handles it with - especially after being a supernatural fan and the car crash that was Destiel and how badly Deans bisexual coding was handled in the media and q&aās and such - because there is nothing wrong with fans perceiving a character being queer, and that fandom specifically were made to feel like there was.
3. And finally his answer about whether he would want Buck and Eddie together was so well said, because of course heās open to it, but he puts Buckās character first and I truly agree with him that if it wouldnāt serve the story, Buck and Eddie shouldnāt happen. You can tell he loves Bucks coming out and how he wants to treat it with love and positivity, and I can see how he wants to avoid the negative stereotypes of people being Bi and immediately being assumed to be attracted to everyone, and I so appreciate that.
Buddie is something that is so special because either you look at it as two male best friends who love each other unconditionally and wholly, or as this budding romance that builds over 6 seasons. And for me either is beautiful because they are still each others person, and they have this family dynamic that works.
I donāt want Buddie to happen for the sake of satisfying the fans, I need it to be meaningful and special, and if it narratively wouldnāt make sense or wasnāt treated with care Iād rather it stay as it is - with this beautiful male friendship.
Buck as a character is very special to me, and he means a lot to me, so how he is handled is something I care a lot about. And bisexuality is also something that should be handled with care and Iām very glad it seems to be treated with the care it should be at 9-1-1.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

the number of people who saw Tommy was surprised about Buck wanting his attention and THEN go on to say "oh it's because he thought Buck wanted Eddie's attention AND he knows Buck/Eddie have romantic feelings for each other and THAT'S why he was surprised AND Buck was just confused on his feelings and he really wants Eddie" - they are really watching with buddie goggles on. they came to one correct conclusion and then go off the rails
yes, Tommy did think Buck wanted Eddie's attention - because Eddie told him as much! Tommy goes to Buck's place immediately after he helps Eddie with his ankle, so he would have heard Eddie's take on it - that Eddie thinks Buck is jealous because Eddie and Tommy are spending so much time together. That's why Tommy starts talking about he doesn't want to interfere in their friendship; he doesn't know that Buck wanted his attention until Buck says it.
As for Tommy thinking Buck and Eddie have romantic feelings for each other... There is just straight up no evidence for that in the show lol. You want to write fic based on that assumption? Hell yeah. But thinking that's what's happening in canon is simply wrong based on what's on screen
And the third one - oh, Buck is just confused - is insulting to the story that's being told. Buck is into Tommy. Even if the relationship ends, he will always have been into Tommy. He told Tommy himself, he told Maddie, he told Eddie - he acted like someone with an enormous crush because he has an enormous crush! And trying to erase that because it doesn't work with your view for your ship is
That's also why all the speculation that Tommy is going to step aside because of how close Buck and Eddie are is ridiculous - he already knows how close they are, and he doesn't seem to care.

I donāt necessarily know how I would want this to go - or even if I want it to happen, but I do wonder if 9-1-1 is going to address the fact that biphobia exists and how often biphobia is related to the idea that bisexuals ācanāt pick a sideā or the fact that bisexuals are often indirectly just slut shamed.
I am bisexual, and those comments definitely exist and can be said unthinkingly. And often they are said as a passing joke but for the person they do hit and itās not fun.
With Buck now officially starting his discovery of his sexuality - it would be a good time to open up that narrative.
Itās not like Iāll be angry if they steer clear of that because if Buck can have a smooth coming out and self discovery then Iām absolutely down for that - and I love that for him and the show. But I just feel it could be addressed if they felt like adding a bit of angst. And itās been in my head all day as a thing that could happen.

I need Evan Buckley to be romanced. I need him to be a stuttering mess, acting like heās never been wooād before. I need to see him nervous and gain confidence in dating men.
Buck deserves this after all the relationships heās had where he feels he needs to better himself to deserve his partner.
I want there to be at least a few episodes of him and Tommy together so that Bucks bisexuality can be an individual character story and not something linked to buddie.
Because honestly buck being bisexual matters more to me than Buddie being canon, so I would rather them honour this storyline and do it as well as they can than use it as a stepping stone to buddie and rush it.
Coming out stories where there is no angst and just the road to understanding themselves is not shown enough and 9-1-1 has an opportunity to show a man in his 30s discover himself with no (real) drama and just loving acceptance from his family.

If the writers miss out on the opportunity to have date-crasher Eddie say "I'm so glad you guys kissed and made up" while Buck chokes on water and Tommy just smirks, I will actually never forgive them

You know what? I donāt WANT an awkward double date. I donāt WANT buck coming out and people having the āI knowā reaction or the āis it Eddieā reaction.
You know what I do want?
I want Buck panicking over what to wear for the date. I want Buck flopping on his bed like very teenager after their first kiss all giggly and happy and touching his lips because he kissed a boy
I want Buck smiling every time he says Tommyās name because maybe it isnāt forever and maybe heās not even looking for forever anymore but heās so happy and heās so light and being with Tommy feels good
I want Tommy to keep calling him Evan, because before Buck was Buck he was Evan and Evan deserves to be happy to be treated so softly and lovingly and Evan deserves to be free.
I want Buck to be happy. To be happy and free and queer in the way we all deserve.

I love angst, but it hurts :((
Itās very interesting that there has been a scene where Gale is making almost a direct comparison between John and Gales father earlier in the season, and what I would give to have Gales thoughts on how he separates his views of his father compared to the love he has for John. Because that canāt be easy to do when there appear to be at least similar vices with both characters.
And then this, where he flinches away from Bucky.

There is definitely something heartbreaking about Buck flinching in the second gif.
Bucky is going through something and struggling - and clearly Gale isnāt enjoying Bucky not helping out but he also worries about John. But Bucky is also the person who Buck trusts the most in the world, and then he flinches when Bucky touches him - which we have never seen before.
My hc/assumption is that Buck doesnāt like physical affection from people, he doesnāt like arms around the shoulder or surprising touches, but with Bucky itās okay or even encouraged - as we have seen repeatedly though the series, bucky is the one person allowed to touch Gale at any time with no issues, and now weāve come to a point where Gale is flinching at John, and thatās very telling for where Buck is as a character.
There is definitely some angst that can be written about this.
