God, FByleth’s design just gets worse every time I look at it. Why try and change an already solid design for the sake of titillation? Blame IntSys, I guess.

[FE + Fate/Zero] Hayami
Did you know? Shou Hayami has voiced two prominent fire-based magi in anime. They both also happen to be men of fine taste and culture.
Tumblr media
There’s Tokiomi Tohsaka from Fate/Zero fame, first of all.
Tumblr media
Then there’s Arvis of Velthomer from Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War.
Outfit swap when?

[FE16] Eh...
Spoilers for Fire Emblem: Three Houses down below. Opinion post. You have been warned.
Strongly disappointed by FE16′s reveal trailer. Byleth ended up being a self-insert, and hoo boy fucking howdy did they take a page out of FCorrin’s book for FByleth. She looks awful, plain and simple. Why add so much bullshit to her design? It’s not just disrespectful, but also a plain slap in the face.
I don’t even know how to feel about the general aesthetic of the game, either. It all looks so... dull, really. That, and the character designs so far range from decent (e.g. MByleth) to okay (Claude) to meh (Edelgard, Dimitri) to just bad. Some of the units have these weird facial markings, and even for FE’s animesque standards, the hair sometimes makes me think it doesn’t really fit in with the rest of FE.
Definitely not sold on the game thus far. I’m probably trying it out anyway, but if it’s not to my liking (i.e. filled with too much NuFE bile), I’m selling it. Direct’s left a bitter aftertaste in my mouth. Instead of stepping away from the NuFE formula, it seems IntSys cares more about money than integrity. Not that Heroes hasn’t already proven such, but this is the main series.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got some FE5 to play.

[XB2] Speculation
Spoiler discussion below. You have been warned.
I’ve seen some renditions of Malos’s true form as Logos that take a very similar approach to Pneuma. However, I’d personally double down on the traditional Japanese look he’s got going on so as to contrast with Pneuma’s futuristic armor, meaning I’d take some cues from elaborate samurai wear above all else. Just some thoughts; do let me know what you think.

[FEH] We Have Our Winners... I Guess
CYL3 has concluded. Alm and Eliwood have won the men’s division; while Marth losing out again kinda stings, I do feel both Eliwood and Alm wholeheartedly deserve their placements. Alm is long overdue for an alt, and Eliwood should be treated with equal respect and reverence as Hector and Lyn.
Mini-rant below. Proceed with caution.
The women’s division is such a fucking joke, though. FE has been mocked for its sycophantic waifuism that prevails among some portion of the fanbase, and I’ve thoroughly had it with that assetry myself. No comment on Micaiah, as I haven’t played FE10, so I’m no place to speak about her. But I hope you’re happy with Camilla clocking in at 2nd. I hope you’re fucking pleased with yourselves.
Every day, we stray further from Kaga’s light.

What if we called Alfonse a twunk? I mean I know where you're coming from. He's not a twink, buy maybe he's something in between?
You’re kinda missing the point of my post, which was how Alfonse is often reduced to just being called a twink. That just kinda got to me.

[FEH] Brazen 9
Hey, people. Brazen Atk/Def Seal is live, which means Alfonse can effectively run Brazen Attack/Defense 9. And you would still call him a twink, knowing he gains +21 Atk/Def at that HP threshold? This prince is swole as hell; twink? What twink?

[FEH] Hey, old man...
Mild spoilers for Book III. You have been warned.
I’ve already seen a lot of rage against Gustav for his interactions with Alfonse and Sharena. Personally, I get where the man’s coming from. He knows Alfonse will one day have to lead a kingdom. For that, insight and wisdom are required that Alfonse himself does not yet possess. Being a member of the Order of Heroes is, in a way, ‘simpler’ than serving one’s nation directly.
Henriette tells Alfonse that Gustav used to be much like him. Gustav, too, was once a more idealistic, avidly heroic young man. She also mentions something happened to him one day that made him cynical compared to how he used to be. We don’t yet know what that’ll be -- I’ll be following up on that once we find out in the story.
But one day, Alfonse will be king. Gustav simply wants his boy to be ready to take the throne. He knows he’s inching closer to death’s door with every breath he takes, and that’s why he’s so concerned about his children. He’s just stern in his concern, is all. Sure, one could say Gustav is harsh to Alfonse, but the man has his reasons. He’s not a bad father at all. Right now, Alfonse just doesn’t consider the bigger picture as much as he should, and that’s what Gustav tries to make his son aware of.
So don’t hate the old man, alright?

[FEH] The Light Dies
Seems the Askrans will finally be getting their taste of what it’s like to be a Fire Emblem protagonist. Aside from Alfonse being hit particularly hard by Zacharias’s departure that day, If you’re a Lord, you suffer through a large deal of hardship. That’s par for the course.
Personally, I cannot wait to see them succumb to their agony and observe how they deal with such feelings of frustration. They need to feel the same pain that the likes of Marth, Leif and Eliwood have faced, experience the same horrors and anguish. They need to be exposed to the truly hideous side of war.

Laegjarn deserves much better than Fjorm. Come on, people. Do you really want to saddle Laegjarn up with such a horribly generic and incompetent faux-protagonist who isn’t even the star of her own story?

[FE8] Lyon
I remember seeing this one confession stating Eirika’s route felt ‘more canon’ because of Joshua and Cormag’s involvement. I couldn’t possibly disagree more with that statement.
Are you saying that finding out the real truth behind the war is ‘less canon’ than a man’s revenge and finding out about a royalty reveal? It is only on Ephraim’s route that we ever learn what’s really transpiring in Magvel. It is only on Ephraim’s route that Lyon himself is in control, which makes all the post-reunion confrontations feel that much more personal and genuinely moving. The juxtaposition between Ephraim and Lyon is highlighted on Eph’s route, and no such things are ever played up between Eirika and Lyon. Whereas Eirika is just being taunted by a generic chaotic-evil baddie, Ephraim’s route reminds the player that he’s fighting the man he once called his best friend. Their final confrontation is not just a simple battle -- it is a personal clash of two individuals who would rather not fight one another, but are driven to clash nonetheless because the world is at stake, for better or for worse.
In short, I think saying Eirika’s route feels more canon is a major disservice to Lyon’s entire character, which is only really divulged on Ephraim’s route. By contrast, I find Eirika’s route much less compelling overall. Good for worldbuilding, but not much else, in my opinion. I wish it was more interesting. For all the reasons I’ve listed, though, I find Ephraim’s route far more compelling.

[FEH] More Jugdral (mini-rant)
I can only say I’m overjoyed to see Jugdral getting more attention. I might be biased in saying that since FE4 is my favorite game in the franchise (and FE5 may very well become my #2), but that also brings me to something else.
Allegedly, people have been complaining about FE4 receiving a second banner within a one-year time span. What’s the problem? Jugdral is far and away the most obscure continuity in the franchise, and you’re complaining about overexposure of Jugdral all of a sudden? What of all the Awakefates alts, huh? What of all the alts for your favorite nu-FE and FE7 characters?
Just let Jugdral fans enjoy their scarce content for once, jeesh. You’re all acting like it’s everywhere while selectively ignoring the myriad of alts AND the huge nu-FE-based starting roster. But do you ever hear me complaining about that oversaturation? No. So shut up, and don’t ruin the rare moments of fun for Jugdral fans. Be grateful for all you already have.
Thank you.
