He was always a favorite of mine as a kid and he featured pretty heavily in my weird middle to high school comics but I haven't done a lot with him lately, I'm pretty sure this comes from some Kaijune daily drawing or other. Personally I always struggle a bit between redesigning to feel more like plausible creatures or leaning into the limitations of the old suits, here obviously I leaned more towards the suit but not all the way. I think it might be fun to try and come up with some sort of story where it would be fitting for the kaiju to look like old suits.

I'm working on a few pictures but I thought I might go into the old files to find something again. This was originally an attempt at GMK Godzilla but I was thinking it might work as a Ghost Godzilla. I figured it wouldn't hurt to give it a quick coloring job and see how it does.

I've gone looking through my files for old pictures I could color but apparently this one wasn't on my hard drive and I kind of forgot about it until someone on deviantart favorited it recently. It's got issues, I'm pretty sure this was even in ballpoint pen and not the stuff I have now, but it wasn't the worst thing from back then.

Really random impulse to draw these guys, it was an old cartoon already even when I was young and I really don't recall forming a strong attachment. Well, I always thought Tendro's thing of being a pillbug-rhino-Triceratops-artillery-thing was kinda neat. Still skipping humans for now so no space barbarian family with these guys, just the aliens.

Just today I found out about an old 1960's cartoon that featured a prehistoric superhero who teamed up with Moby Dick, the literal public domain white whale being the plucky animal helper back in prehistoric times and I find myself wanting to see someone's long winded essay on that and what it means for the novel to incorporate that into continuity. Just, deranged alternate history the god in the shape of a whale that turned against man with the loss of his superhero buddy. I haven't actually read Moby Dick and media analysis is not a skill I managed to develop very well so it will never be.

It's called the Mighty Mightor and from the look of the guy I think they wanted to use Thor but likely ran into copyright issues (I don't know this, I'm guessing it based on 'He-Man is kid-friendly Conan' sort of trivia) so amusingly in the opening Moby Dick gets top billing as the one with the name recognition.

Since Nintendo is shutting down more online stuff I've spent a fair amount of my free time playing some 3DS stuff and Mario Maker for the Wii U. A big one for 3DS is Kid Icarus: Uprising to try and get the semi-achievements for playing the 'together mode' since I never did that very much. Annoyingly I passed 30 Light vs Dark rounds a while ago and am pretty sure I haven't cleared the 'Win 5 Light vs Dark Matches' yet. Out of practice and getting older, I'm honestly just glad when I can get some hits in on the other team and not be simply executed by a player way out of my league.

I have gotten one fun anecdote out of it so far - guy going by michael (all lowercase in the player name) was sniping the team I was on with a club that was taking everyone out in one hit. I managed to get close to him, immobilize him with a black hole power and took out his character. He took that personally and was gunning for me and killing me the same way even when he definitely could have done the sniping thing. Eventually I managed to kill him with the black hole trick again near the end of a match and decided there wouldn't be a more annoying time to dip so I didn't join the next match.

I had this silly little thing on the back-burner for a while and decided today was a reasonably good day to try to finish it. I can't quite consider it done, but it's enough to get the point across.

I do remember as a kid not having seen any of the movies with Baragon but had rented Gamera vs Barugon a few times so Godzilla Monster of Monsters caused me some confusion. "They misspelled a Gamera enemy and got him very wrong for some reason."

I've never been as active in following fan kaiju stuff as I wanted to be, was always kind of pulled in too many directions to give it the focus I feel it deserves. I've been wanting to go through people's stuff and maybe draw some of the fan kaiju out there, which I think I'll get to start being more full time soon, but for now I thought about which ones did I see a lot? I already covered Tyrantis a few times since he's got a couple novels out now and curiously I find it a lot easier to read a narrative that way than a bunch of bios online. So I thought of a few and settled on Irokus, though looking at the page now it looks like Kaijuverse hasn't been active on deviantart for some time. I think I messed up the upper front of the skull a bit too.

I was just doodling a bit and this guy came out. I guess it just about has to be an alien animal that feeds on pollinators of the planet's version of flowers, but maybe there's something else it can be.

Packaging: Super glue! Dries in seconds!

Reality: Takes several hours to dry on anything not human skin, then will dry instantly upon contact with slightly misplaced finger.

Also, pretty fragile on most objects, but on skin requires going under it by scraping off a layer or two.

It's funny how many ways the main MechaGodzilla depictions end up balancing out. Two evil against heroic Godzillas vs two defensive MechaGodzillas against destructive Godzillas, two on the 50 meter scale, two on the 100+ meter scale, two with useless non-tails and two with very articulated tails. Two I can draw somewhat ok and two I really struggle with.

I gave up with Kiryu at some point and just started throwing in my own metallic-ish details just to get done and I just don't like looking at the Monsterverse version and I think I might have accidentally ended up using a bad fan rendering for my main reference? Oops.

Also, I think some bootlegs might have snuck their way into my MechaGodzilla 50th anniversary drawings.

Been thinking of experimenting like this a little. I need to learn photography better and my added in background is pretty rushed, but I've considered doing this kind of toy photography stuff for times when I don't have quite enough time or light to draw and I took a stab at it.
