Requip Goes Digital
Tumblr media
So, the above picture is a screenshot taken from the priestess of the phoenix movie, and apparently, requip magic can project a holographic screen that lets the user view and organize all sorts of things about the magic and the storage and stuff. Also, does anyone else realize that Erza bought an actual wedding dress during that movie?! What does she need a wedding dress for?!

Happy the Hero!
I feel like Happy doesn’t get enough credit for doing what he does best: hauling people around because he can fly and they can’t. So, this is two times Happy carried someone with just his tail and two more he just decided to do two at once, instead.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because Happy is way stronger than he looks and he works just as hard as everyone else!

Simple Truths
Tumblr media
Natsu: If you can’t do the fighting yourself, then I’ll just have to do it for you.
Erza: You can’t; he’s too powerful. Besides, you don’t know anything about him.
Natsu: Who says I need to know the guy to beat him up?

Weird Graylu thing...
So, I was rewatching the tower of heaven arc, when I noticed something I completely overlooked the first fifty or so times I’ve watched this anime. Has anyone else ever noticed that the early anime episodes make it seem like Gray has a thing for Lucy, even when the exact same manga chapters don’t?
Case in point, see this...
Tumblr media
...and this... (both from Episode 34: Jellal)
Tumblr media
...vs this...
Tumblr media
In the manga, not only does Lucy just show up wearing fresh clothes (she apparently changed when no one was looking, like normal people do), Cancer is the one who brought them to her, whereas in the anime, Virgo is the one who brings the clothes for her and with a serious lack of decency, tries to change her right in front of everyone. And Gray looks.

Erza Headcanon
Tumblr media
So, I was rewatching the Galuna Arc when this particular scene between Erza and Gray gave me a new headcanon about our favorite redhead. It's that some of Erza's swords are purposefully blunted (or magicked) so that they don't actually cut or truly hurt the people she's attacking because Erza doesn't want to kill people. She just wants to beat them up. And hit them with swords. Because Erza.

Stellar Spirit Key Locations
This is basically what the title suggests. I’m writing out where all the stellar spirit keys were before Lucy found them; of course, we don’t know where Yukino got the ones she possesses, but you can’t win them all, so I’ll deal with what I can find. Also note that there are spoilers relating to where each key came from, but most of this info can be found by about the middle of the Grand Magic Games. The only real spoiler is the spirit listed third from the bottom, so those who aren’t caught up with the final season should be aware. I can’t really skip this.
Aries: Angel (from the Oracion Seis) took this key from Karen Lilica after she killed her a few years before the beginning of the series. Both women treated Aries rather poorly (to put it lightly), but it was Karen who really took that treatment to the next level, prompting Leo to go to extremes in his attempts at protecting her from their summoner. This treatment is also what prompted Leo’s dislike and distrust of stellar spirit mages.
Taurus: Lucy found Taurus before the start of the series at what appears to be some kind of farm, as she is seen forming her contract with him in flashbacks in a meadow surrounded by cows and windmills, and such, because of course you’d find a cow spirit in a place filled with cows. He is also a massive pervert, but behind that is a genuinely good-hearted spirit who is fully dedicated to protecting Lucy.
Gemini: Angel acquired this key at some point before her run-in with and loss to Lucy Heartfilia, but the fans are never told who she got the key from, in the first place. After Angel broke her contract when she lost to Lucy, Gemini sought Lucy out to form a new contract with her of their own free will. They are, in fact, the sole reason Lucy was able to assist in destroying Nirvana, as she was too weakened from earlier battles to actually summon a spirit on her own, at the time.
Cancer: Spetto, a servant woman in the Heartfilia estate; Layla gave her Cancer’s key when she retired as a mage before Lucy was born, and Spetto gave the key to Lucy, in turn, when she began learning stellar spirit magic many years later.
Leo: He was banished from the stellar spirit realm and blamed for being unintentionally involved in the cause of his previous keyholder’s death, said keyholder being Karen Lilica. Before learning that he was a stellar spirit, Lucy knew him as Loke, a popular and flirty Fairy Tail mage who was ranked fourth in Sorcerer Weekly for The Wizard I'd Like To Be My Boyfriend; apparently, he tried flirting with Erza once and she almost killed him, after which, he never again attempted anything with her. In fact, he is seen terrified at Erza’s first in-series appearance, causing a great deal of panic in the guildhall with his rather dramatic entrance.
Virgo: Lucy found Virgo shortly after the series began from a rather disgusting man called Duke Everlue, who violated his contract at some point during their encounter, after which Virgo actually requested Lucy be her new keyholder.
Libra: Yukino’s stellar spirit; we are not told where she first found the key.
Scorpio: This key first came to Lucy through her encounter with Angel, who at the time, was collecting as many golden keys as she could from various victims over the years. We are not told who she took Scorpio from or when this happened.
Sagittarius: This key was given to Lucy as a reward for helping the residents of Galuna Island when they were “cursed” by the moon drip ceremony by Lyon and all his little friends.
Capricorn: This key was passed on to Zoldeo (a former servant of hers) when Layla retired, and he performed forbidden magic that let him basically possess Capricorn for many years by the time Lucy comes across him on Tenrou Island during Grimoire Heart’s attack on Fairy Tail during the S-Class Trials.
Aquarius: Layla passed this key onto Grammi, a former servant who lived for years in Alakitasia with her daughter Brandish. This is the only key Layla couldn’t retrieve before she opened the Eclipse Gate on July 7, X777, and thus, is the reason she was forced to substitute her life force to make it happen. Grammi later brought the key to Layla on the latter’s deathbed, torn apart and blaming herself over what happened. She was later murdered by a crazy-but-grieving Zoldeo as she left the Heartfilia estate, shortly before he actually perform the forbidden magic on Capricorn’s key that let him possess the spirit for so long. (This confuses me a little, to be honest, because I think it’s mentioned Capricorn hadn’t been seen in the stellar spirit realm for about fifteen years, but if this possession only happened after Zoldeo murdered Grammi, by the time Tenrou comes around, it has only been 7 years, or so. So, either I’m getting things mixed up in my head, or this is an actual plot hole. Ya’ll let me know what you think about all of this, if you’re caught up with everything and I actually missed something.)
Pisces: This key belongs to Yukino, and we aren’t told where she gets it from, unfortunately.
Ophiuchus: Also known as the Thirteenth Gate, this key belongs to Yukino, and although I would love to have gotten more info on it, we aren’t really told where it comes from before it came into Yukino’s possession.

Extras
So, today, I received my very first reblogs ever, and in celebration of that, I wanted to make another post. Unfortunately, I legit don’t have much else already stored away that isn’t really specific to my Carpe Diem fanfic. However, I dug around in my files a bit and managed to find a few extras that hadn’t yet been added to my bits and pieces post, the one containing random info I noticed watching and rewatching the anime like a goob. It literally has its own page in my files because I kept noticing stuff and had to start writing things down. Seriously.
But anyway, it’s really not much as of yet because I’ve sort of been stuck on bnha lately, but what I do have to add to it all is down below, with a very extra Acnologia add-on teaser at the end because I actually do have a theory on him that I’ve been saving for a rainy day.
Here it goes!
-There were originally 8 towers being built when the R-system first began construction, but the magic council found and destroyed 7 of them, never realizing that there was still one remaining.
-Before chasing after Simon, Sho, Wally, and Milliana when they kidnap Erza, the group lets the military know what happened at the casino. Because, apparently, they actually know how to stop and think first.
-Natsu conveniently forgets about his motion sickness on the way to the tower of heaven when the group passes a wrecked Fiore Naval Ship just before reaching the tower. He forgets this so clearly that he’s seen standing straight up right next to Gray on their little boat with barely a hint to show he was motion sick just a moment before. Because, Natsu.
Teaser Time!
Acnologia does not hate humans, not truly. He is jealous of them because in his quest for vengeance against dragons, his magic turned him into a dragon and he no longer had even the illusion of humanity. His human form is basically a cruel joke the universe played on him.

Bits and Pieces
So, this is nothing more than random bits and pieces of info I discovered while watching through the anime for thousandth time. Enjoy.
The Tower of Heaven began construction 10 years before canon.
Lucy acquires a leather pouch, of sorts, for her gate keys sometime before the Phantom Arc.
Max was in Sorcerer Weekly, at some point, and he seemed pretty popular.
Natsu sleeps for 3 days after the events at the Tower of Heaven.
Hibiki is nicer than Sorcerer Weekly makes him out to be.
During Nirvana, Gemini-Gray uses one-handed Ice-Make Magic.
Angel had Caelum throw one last blast at Lucy after Urano Metria, but Caelum missed on purpose.
Gray is gone for days right before the Daphne Arc.
It is possible for hotels and lodges to use an automated check-in/ out system using lacrima. No need for desk employees.
In the Daphne Arc, when Gray and Natsu fight, Gray asks Natsu why he’s “just standing there doing nothing about it”. He later mentions a city without sound. Natsu, of course, does not take the hint.
The Edolas events supposedly take place over 6 days.
Natsu’s cowlick is a purposefully done style choice.
Ultear’s time with Brain and the magic bureau thing happened before Cobra and the others were taken from the Tower of Heaven.
Hades believes information about him should have been in the guild’s library and that it must have been expunged at some point. (Perhaps, the others had never heard of him because they did not read the appropriate books?)
The rather large heart Hades keeps on his ship, the source of his power, is a demon heart.
Jude is apparently the reason Lucy grew up a bookworm.
Wendy and Natsu work well together while fighting the Hungry Wolf Knights.

Stellar Spirit World Time
Because I’m a goob, I actually calculated the difference between Earthland time and Stellar Spirit World time. My headcanon is that time flows differently there only when humans are present, which is why they aren’t really allowed to cross over. It really messes with the flow, as it were. Now, I marked three months as being 6 hours, because there’s no way they were there for a full 24 hours; I had to guess. If anyone wishes to use my calculations for their own purposes, that’s fine with me, but be warned that any adjustments to the ‘6 hours’ thing will mean that the entire calculation will need to be redone. It’s pretty simple, when you think about it, but if anyone needs any help with that, feel free to ask. I’ve always been good with math. And, yes, I’m aware that I went unnecessarily overboard. I do that sometimes.
.875 days is 3.75 minutes
1.75 days is 7.5 minutes
3.5 days is 15 minutes
1 week is 30 minutes
2 weeks is 1 hour
1 month is 2 hours
2 months is 4 hours
3 months is 6 hours
1 year is 1 day (or 24 hours)
2 years is 2 days (48 hours)
3 years is 3 days (72 hours)
4 years is 4 days (96 hours)
5 years is 5 days (120 hours)
6 years is 6 days (144 hours)
7 years is 7 days (or 1 week, or 168 hours)

Fairy Tail Timeline
Please note that most of this is estimated, based on what dates are given and what works best for my story (Carpe Diem, found on my profile on ff.net here: https://www.fanfiction.net/u/997490/). This isn’t, at all, definitive, so far as canon goes, though I did try to keep it as close to accurate as possible. I had to guess at a lot of the in-between stuff, and I’m perfectly alright with you guys using this timeline for your own stories, if you’d like. Just reference me as the creator, and you should be fine.
On another note, you will see below that a few of the OAV’s and at least one of the movies made it into this timeline, though I didn’t add the OAVs that were too far off from canon to make sense, since this timeline was built for fanfic purposes. I’ve got everything measured out in weeks, and as you can see below, nothing less than ½ a week is listed anywhere on this timeline, unless it really just happens over the course of a single day. Most of it is self explanatory, so you shouldn’t need a key to read this, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
And I’ve gotta say it just once, even if it’s not actually super relevant: Fairy Tail is so much easier to timeline than Naruto was. I’m honestly relieved I didn’t have more trouble with this than I actually did when I first sat down to work everything out, and it genuinely surprised me. I seriously thought it was going to be a total nightmare because that’s what all my previous timelining experience pointed to, but Fairy Tail has clear story arcs, a legitimate year system, and several dated events spaced throughout the series. With all of that lined up, it was so easy to go through and determine how much time took place during a given arc and estimate the time between them for the events that didn’t happen back to back. Like, I am just so freaking happy with this, you guys.
Timeline
X784
Intro Arc: July 2- meet Natsu, July 4- join Fairy Tail; 14 ½ weeks until Battle of Fairy Tail
Daybreak Arc: Occurs 3 ½ weeks after intro (Lucy’s rent is almost due again)
Lullaby Arc: Directly after Daybreak Arc (Give ½ week allowance for both events)
Galuna Island Arc: 1 week after Lullaby (½ week allowance for event itself; technically, this begins almost directly after Natsu and Erza return from Era, since Mystogan shows up the same day, but the week given should account for all the little things and the extra stuff at the end of Lullaby)
Phantom Lord Arc: Directly after Galuna (Give half a week allowance for event itself)
Loke Arc: 3 weeks after Phantom Lord
Tower of Heaven Arc: Occurs half a week after Loke Arc and events begin the next night after check-in at resort (spent a whole day at the beach, first; check-in is always later in day), spend 2 weeks total at Akane
Battle of Fairy Tail Arc: October 15; 8 ½ weeks until Tenrou; About 3 weeks after return from Akane
Oracion Seis Arc: Maybe a week and a half after Welcome to Fairy Hills: Occurs a day or so after events with Nirvana, use this to lead up to next event.
Daphne Arc: A day or so after Fairy Hills, this and previous event even out at about half a week
Edolas Arc: Begins half a week after Daphne Arc, in Edolas for about half a week, so about 5 ½ weeks left until Tenrou island
Memory Days: Occurs half a week after return from Edolas
Tenrou Island Arc: December 15- Grimoire Heart, December 16- Acnologia; solo mission season begins right after Memory Days (next day, sooner than anime implies; headcanon is just about a full month)
X791
X791 Arc: Wiki says April, but at least 3 months before games (and July doesn’t count), so must be March
Key of the Starry Sky Arc: Begins about half a week after return and lasts about a week (smallest amount of time possible; mix with bits of arcs before and after to make transition more believable)
Grand Magic Games Arc: July 1-7 X791 (return from spirit world on the 25th/26th, depending on if return day is counted in days left)
The Exciting Ryuzetsu Land: Takes place the night right after Wendy and Chelia’s fight. (Note: Canon-compliance is not certain, yet.)
Eclipse Stellar Spirits Arc: Perhaps, a week or so after GMG; Stellar Spirits’ behavior is unlikely to be a delayed reaction. Fairy Penalty Game: Takes place at some point between these arcs, probably sooner rather than later.
Sun Village Arc: Maybe a couple of weeks after Eclipse Stellar Spirits Arc?
Natsu vs Mavis: Takes place at some point between these arcs because Warrod makes an appearance
Tartaros Arc: Natsu mentions in Alvarez Arc that he went through 10 months of training, which puts this at roughly 2 months after games.
X792
Avatar Arc: July 7- Natsu returns at the GMG, July 8- Natsu and Lucy search for guildmates
Dragon Cry: Apparently takes place at some point between these two arcs
Alvarez Empire Arc: Sometime in September (month was mentioned at some point during this arc in the anime; Note: Lori is with Natsu, Lucy, and Brandish when Dimaria shows up, which has her taken as well.)
100 Year Quest Arc: A year later, apparently?

My Naruto Timeline Explained
In creating a Naruto timeline for my own personal use, I did briefly consult a Naruto timeline on AnimeFamily (http://www.animefamily.com/Naruto/Analysis/Charts/Timeline.htm), mostly because the chart was easy to understand and made mention of specific dates shown in either the manga or the anime, dates that I then used the manga to verify, because I’m one of those folks who likes to make things harder for myself. That being said, sometimes the anime and the manga contradict each other, and sometimes, the manga will even contradict itself, so here and there, I'll have to take liberties and choose for myself one way or the other. I'll do my best to let you guys know when that happens.
3/10: Naruto's milk expires 3/11: Prank in the first episode 3/12: Graduation Exam; Incident with Mizuki 3/13: Naruto recuperates 3/14: Naruto takes his registration photo and meets Konohamaru 3/15: Team Assignments; Naruto drinks expired milk and has indigestion 3/16: Bell Test
Naruto's milk expired on September 10, as shown in the manga page below (chapter 3). Zoom in on the panel where Kakashi is holding the milk up to his face, and at the top of the carton, you will find the expiration date shown. There are Kanji for month and day inked in right next to the numbers, and through a google search on those kanji, I determined that the month came first in this particular instance. It's also remarked that the milk expired only a few days previous, as you can see, so I adjusted my timeline accordingly. As far as Naruto's frequent trips to the bathroom in this chapter, there are a lot of factors that determine actual expiration versus the listed expiration. My headcanon for this bit is that Naruto left his milk sitting out too long, like a dumbass.
Tumblr media
For my own personal use, I'm keeping their graduation in March, mostly because I can't see Naruto sitting on the D-ranks for an extra six months, especially since the fact that they're rookies is pointed out so often in the earlier parts of the series. If they had an extra six months, they wouldn't be quite the rookies they were in canon because that gives them ten months as genin before the Chuunin Exams in July, and we all know they didn't have quite that much time. So, I'm keeping the date the panel showed for when his milk expired but changing the month to March so that they graduate in the month before Wave happens. Honestly, don't quote me on this, but I think March also lines up with schools in Japan, so keeping to a system that makes sense here seems like a good way to go about it. I did want to keep their birthday in September because Kakashi's birthday falls into that timeframe, and I like the idea that their team assignments would fall on his birthday, but alas, it doesn't actually make much sense with everything else going on.
Now, as seen in the list excerpt above, I've got Naruto's prank on the Hokage Monument marked for the day after his milk expires. I can't recall my specific reason for that, save spacing it all out believably. The graduation exam does take place the day after the prank, as seen in both manga and anime. The incident with Mizuki obviously takes place that very night, and I'm pretty sure Naruto does take a day to recover before dealing with his registration.
4/20: Land of Waves begins; fight with Demon Brothers 4/24: Fight with Zabuza just inside Wave 4/30: Gato; Reunion with Zabuza and Haku 5/15: Bridge completed; Team 7 journeys back to Konoha 5/17: Team 7 makes it back either today or tomorrow, a little sooner than with Tazuna
With the Land of Waves arc, I had to guess because we only know that it happened in spring; based on my research, it really only took a single month, so I just picked the one that suited me best. This happened to be April for me, partly for spring, partly so they have a little bit of time before everything happens, and partly because Gato's birthday is at the end of April, and I'm mean enough to time everything so that big showdown happens on his birthday. I also wanted there to be a decent amount of time to include stuff in-between Wave and the Chuunin Exams. There was no specific mention in the manga (that I could find) on how much time passed between them leaving Wave and the start of the Chuunin Exams, so I took a few liberties because in the end, this timeline was built for fanfiction.
Tumblr media
As you can see in the page above (chapter 9), the Demon Brothers were watching them from the moment they left Konoha, and just a few pages later (perhaps, just hours after they leave the village), the encounter begins. Please also note that while these pages are colored, I am not the one who did them. That honor belongs to those at https://narutocolortranslationsquad.wordpress.com/.
Tumblr media
So, from this (also chapter 9), it's pretty easy to estimate that the encounter with the Demon Brothers happens that very day, but I've determined from the next couple of chapters that the encounter with Zabuza occurred, at least, a few days later.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Clearly, Zabuza is already inside Wave, as you can see part of the bridge in one of the above panels. (manga chapter 10)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These pages (manga chapter 11) are shown before they face off with Zabuza, so it's pretty obvious that Zabuza is just letting them come to him, rather than leaving Wave to chase them down. He does, however, very obviously get to them before they can reach Tazuna's home.
Tumblr media
In the above page (chapter 16), it is noted that Kakashi needs about a week to recover.
Tumblr media
Zabuza, as seen above (also chapter 16), will need about the same amount of time.
Tumblr media
According to the above page (chapter 33), the latter events of this chapter occurred about 2 weeks after the fight on the bridge. I'm not posting all of them, but the next few pages after this one are the ones that lead up to them actually leaving Wave. I surmise travel time from that point to be a couple of days, faster than they traveled with Tazuna, but not overly fast because they didn't seem to be in a rush.
6/24: Suna team arrives for Chuunin Exams; Jounin are informed 6/30: Kakashi informs Team 7 about the Chuunin Exams recommendation 7/1: Chuunin Exams begin 4PM; Forest of Death 6PM (Ends on 7/6 at 6PM); Orochimaru attacks 7/2 Sound Genin Attack 7/3: Neji; Rest 7/4: Rest 7/5: Rest/ Journey to tower 7/6: Kin; Arrival at tower; Prelims; Jiraiya begins teaching Naruto 7/20: Sasuke wakes and leaves the hospital during the night 7/21: Summer Solstice; Sasuke finds Kakashi to get training 7/28: Naruto summons Gamabunta 7/31: Naruto wakes in the hospital; he and Shikamaru encounter Gaara in Lee's hospital room
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, as you can see from the two separate pages above (chapters 34 and 35), the Suna team arrives in Konoha for the Chuunin Exams on the same day the Sandaime announces the Exams to the Jounin. In fact, the two encounters happen at the exact same time, even if they’re displayed in two separate chapters.
Tumblr media
Now, Kakashi is a chronically-late troll (chapter 36), so Team 7 doesn't actually know they've been recommended until, literally, the day before the exam, itself. Of course.
Tumblr media
(chapter 45)
So, as for the 1st and 2nd tests, there's a bit of confusion. I consulted the manga, and the 2nd test took place right after the first, and not the day before, as the AnimeFamily timeline seems to believe. Likely, this discrepancy is because Kishimoto drew an awful lot of clocks during these chapters, showing us the exact times, but then, the times don't match up, what with it all happening on the same day, and all. Hence, the written test takes place at 4PM, and they enter the Forest of Death at 3:30PM that same day. See what I mean?
All we know for sure is that they're in the Forest of Death for exactly 5 days, right down to the time they enter, I'd say. Anyone else who wants to switch things around for fanfic purposes, I'd guess that your options are to either go with everything being on different days or change around the times a little bit. Your choice.
Orochimaru attacks that very night, heading straight for Team 7 once entering the forest. There is also an encounter with Team Oboro just before Orochimaru shows up and again just before reaching the tower. The next morning, the Sound Genin show up, and then after all is said and done, Team 7 spends a couple of days resting, heading for the tower sometime on the 4th day. They encounter Team Oboro again sometime between the 4th night and the 5th morning, I believe. And then, once the 2nd test ends at the same time it started, the Prelims begin almost immediately.
Tumblr media
It's pretty obvious (chapter 88), but the page where the final test is said to take place a month later is just above. Naruto asked Kakashi for training help that day, but was refused and placed with Ebisu, during which he met Jiraiya. It could be split up over two days for anyone who’d like to do that themselves, but it really appears to all happen one event right after another, so that’s how I’m doing it here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, the above 2 pages are from the same manga chapter (specifically, chapter 93), occurring on the same day, so from there, I calculated the days that Sasuke left the hospital and found Kakashi.
Tumblr media
(chapter 94)
So, later on the same day as the page above shows (early in manga chapter 95), Naruto summons Gamabunta for the first time. Naruto passes out after the summoning and wakes up in the hospital 3 days later, as seen below (chapter 96).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(chapter 97)
Not long after Naruto wakes up, he and Shikamaru have an encounter with Gaara in Lee's room, while the former is attempting to murder the latter. Gai interrupts after a bit of disturbing conversation where we learn quite a bit about Gaara's history, and as seen in the above manga page, we learn that the finals are set for the very next day. This means that the finalists don't have a full month to prepare, so much as 3 1/2 weeks; the finals seem to be set to occur exactly 1 month from the start of the 1st exam, rather than the end of the 2nd.
8/1: Chuunin Exam Finals; Invasion 8/3: Sandaime’s funeral 8/6: Multiple encounters with Itachi and Kisame; Jiraiya takes Naruto to find Tsunade 8/10: Naruto completes Stage 1 8/31: Naruto and Jiraiya go to Tanzakugai after he masters stage 2 9/6: Sannin Showdown 9/7: Day of rest, to recover 9/8: Group heads back to Konoha together 9/9: Group arrives in village due to Naruto’s determination 9/10: Naruto and Sasuke fight on the hospital roof; Sasuke defects later that night 9/11: Retrieval
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Based on the above manga pages (chapter 139), Itachi and Kisame show up in Konoha just a couple days before the funeral, probably right after Gaara&co all went home after the fighting. The page with them is shown before the page mentioning the funeral, and I don't think that would have been an accident on Kishimoto's part, so I'm assuming they just secretly hung around in the area for a few days before making their move. Clearly, they didn't come after Naruto before the funeral, since he was there, but it couldn't have been more than a couple of days afterwards, at most.
I don't suppose I'll need a manga page as evidence that Jiraiya left with Naruto the very same day Itachi and Kisame showed up; it was rather obvious in both the manga and the anime. I'm also pretty sure that the encounter Naruto, Sasuke, and Jiraiya had with Itachi and Kisame happened later that same day, which indicates that the earlier incident happened sometime around noon, if I'm guessing right (Naruto was eating lunch when Jiraiya found him).
Now, there's a lot that seems to happen all in one day: Itachi and Kisame show up just as Naruto and Jiraiya leave; they deal with Kakashi&co. and then follow, followed shortly by Sasuke; there's the second encounter with Itachi and Kisame, and then, Gai shows up and takes an unconscious Sasuke back to the village; Naruto and Jiraiya move on to the next town, where Naruto explores the festival while Jiraiya spends all of Naruto's money, and then, after all that, Jiraiya shows Naruto the first stage to learning the Rasengan. That honestly feels like too much for one day, so while it's all marked that way in the timeline for now, it might change later.
So, based on what I could tell from the manga (research goes by faster with the manga than the anime, so most of my timeline research came from there), it took Naruto only a few days to clear stage 1, since it was the easiest. Stage 2 is where he seemed to have most of his trouble. There isn't a lot to use for the passage of time with his training on the Rasengan, but I happened to come across the manga page below from chapter 152.
Tumblr media
So, according to this page, Naruto has been working on stage 2 for 3 weeks, because it was at the beginning of stage 2 that Jiraiya is referencing in the first panel. Naruto completes stage 2 within a day or so, after this.
Tumblr media
(chapter 159)
So, 1 week before the Sannin Showdown, Tsunade gives Naruto a week to master the final stage of the Rasengan. The rest of it is pretty self-explanatory. A day for recovery after the showdown with Orochimaru and Kabuto, and then, they head back toward the village, arriving within another day or so, due to Naruto's sheer determination. Once Sasuke wakes after Tsunade takes a look at him, he has that fight with Naruto on the hospital roof and defects that very night, as per the manga. The anime included some fillers in-between all that, so some of the dates might change later on, but this seems to be the most likely course for things, from what I could see.

(chapter 238)
There are about 3 months between Sasuke's defection and Naruto leaving the village. The above manga page occurs on the same day Naruto leaves, and since Tsunade returned to the village literally right before Sasuke defected, I'm pretty sure that's the time frame Tsunade is referencing. It seems to me that Naruto leaves sometime between mid-late December, and he returns in June just about 2 1/2 years later, since preparations for the Chuunin Exams are, once again, taking place. I haven't set exact dates yet for these events, but honestly, any random date in mid-late December and again in June after the timeskip should be just as good as any other. We're very seldom given exact dates for these things, anyway.
And, that’s actually all I have, so far as timelines go; I haven’t been able to narrow down much of Shippuden yet. I tried to post manga pages as a reference when I could, but after a while, I kind of got tired of messing with them, and they do sort of clunk things up a little, so I started cutting back somewhere near the end, as you can probably tell. Now, don’t forget that this is a timeline built for fanfiction, so it’s not going to be exact, but it’s about as close to it as I could get for my own purposes. You guys are totally welcome to input any info or advice, if you’d like, and you're free to use this for your own purposes or repost in other places, as well. Just reference me as the timeline's creator, and everything will be fine.

Naruto Story Arcs Timeline
So, I have what amounts to two separate timelines that I use for fanfiction purposes. One is only there to show the passage of time during an arc and the passage of time after an arc. The other is there for specific dates I might end up needing to know, later on. A lot of those dates are guesstimates, based on manga research. There is very little research that came specifically from the anime, and that's just because it was easier to look it up in the manga than it was to watch entire anime episodes looking for one thing. Perhaps, the next time I decide to go through the anime, I will keep an eye out for timelining stuff, but really, there's no guarantee.
I have a specific reason for all of the dates I chose (which I will go about explaining on a different post), and as you can see, this timeline isn't complete because I haven't quite gotten to the point of trying to narrow Shippuden down into a specific time frame.  Any help or advice on that would be much appreciated.
Bolded names are birthdays, or at least, the ones Ithat fall on specific dates within the timeline; there are a lot of birthdays that didn’t make it in just because of the timing of it all. It's shown with the month and then the day, but I left out anything on the year, since we aren't given a year, and as long as it's all kept in order, it's pretty easy to understand. Note that once I’ve gotten a good timeline for Shippuden worked up, I’ll update the timeline here and probably add another post explaining things again, but for now, this is all I have available at the moment.
