So trust me I take my 💩 and your 💩 VERY seriously 💯 Reposted from @thedocskitchen4: Here’s what you need to know about colon cancer. 👉🏾 Discuss having a colonoscopy if you see blood in your stool, toilet water, or toilet paper. Of course, hemorrhoids, diverticular disease, and anal fissures are more common causes of rectal bleeding than colon cancer, so don’t freak out if you notice some bleeding. However, rectal bleeding is a symptom that should be taken seriously—discuss it with a health professional even if you are under the age of 45. 👉🏾 Many colon cancers are preventable. I spend most of my week preventing colon cancer by removing pre-cancerous growths called polyps found during my colonoscopies. 👉🏾Since most polyps, and even some colon cancers, are asymptomatic, we recommend that everyone without a family history of colon cancer get screened for colon cancer starting at age 45. Screening typically involves a colonoscopy. Stool tests or a special CT scan are also tools worth considering for #coloncancerscreening. 👉🏾If you have a family history of colon cancer, you may need colon cancer screening at age 40 or younger. This is why it’s so important to talk about this stuff as families. Keeping secrets won’t keep you safe. 👉🏾 A #plantbaseddiet may decrease the risk of colon cancer. Red meats and processed meats have been associated with an increased risk of colon cancer. 👉🏾 According to the American Cancer Society, 12% of colon cancers occur in people under the age of 50. I’d love to know 💗 I know it’s none of my business... just YOU may be the reason someone schedules theirs... 💗 Remember ladies and gents and non-binary to do those monthly exams! Breast cancer doesn’t discriminate 💗 I spread awareness because I have had a cancer scare myself 😢 On Wednesdays I wear pink because... a monthly breast #exam can save your life 🙏🏽 #Prevention and #detection is KEY 🔐 In February 2015, during my #monthlybreastexam, I found a lump in my left breast called a #fibroadenoma. I freaked out!!! But here’s what to do so you don’t freak out: 🎀 Make an appointment with your gynecologist 🎀 They will refer you for a mammogram 🎀 Get the mammogram and follow their instructions THEN I needed to figure out some lifestyle changes. Mine include: 🎀 No antiperspirant OR deodorant 🎀 Eating a healthy diet 🎀 Exercise 30 minutes a day 🎀 Drinking 1/2 my weight in ounces of water daily 🎀 Minimizing my daily exposure to chemicals 🎀 Give cancer a terrible host 🙌🏾 🎀 A fibroadenoma feels like a firm, smooth, or rubbery lump in the breast with a well-defined shape. It's (USUALLY) painless and moves easily when touched. Mine HURT to the touch especially during my cycle. It started off as a pea size and grew to the size of a large jelly bean by 2020. And it got evicted during a surgical procedure on 6/10/2020 💯 The pathology report came back normal and it wasn’t cancerous - just a slow growing, very fibrous cyst 🙏🏽❤️✝️ I share my story and my lifestyle because I care about you and the things you might be going through, too. I also share because I had no clue what to do. I was scared and that’s no fun. I hope you never find anything in your monthly #breastexam... but if you do? Now?
