not everyone is either butch or femme actually. That's a false dykeotomy.

instead of continuously over-donating to ao3 when those running the site are racist zionist sympathisers who shut down support of palestine from its volunteers 1 / 2 (among myriad other issues that u should NOT be funding) please direct your attention to these incomplete fundraisers for people in gaza and various tangible operations doing work. this is a call that if u have donated even a cent to ao3 to a) match that in your donations to palestinians/causes and b) stop donating so uncritically and unconditionally to ao3, pressure them. id like to direct u to @end-otw-racism

A small rant about campfires in dangerous landscapes
there's a specific like, visual motif i keep coming back to, coupled with a specific story/world motif. and that's the sitting around the campfire in an extremophile situation
like, darkest dungeon
ive always found the most notable parts of the game is when you finally, strategically, choose a room and use the firewood. it's the most calm point of the game i'd say, calmer then even the town cause you gotta manage money and such there
but at the campfire, you can just chill, forever even
until you press the sleep button and dive right back into the stress
something about the aesthetics to sitting next to a fire really gets to me, it's a checkpoint of sorts, a place to finally sit down and let your hair down, even if it's just for a moment.
usually fire is the tool against today's enemy, be it cold or abomination, fire usually at least helps.
and it's also the few times you can properly socialize with whoever's unfortunate enough to be with you
even if it's hard to talk since none of you are socialites probably, weird and awkward with social interactions compared to combat interactions. but even then, there's comfort in it, a simple piece of biological code that says "if: no people, self destruct" that remains false purely because you're sticking together
and this is the few times you can talk freely besides briefing and debriefing
there's danger obviously, the light and smoke can attract attention, and who knows what might stumble upon the camp if you all decide to sleep. but despite that, you can still make the most of this moment of safety, this moment of peace in a hostile land
you can just chill
for what feels like forever even
until you sleep and dive back into the stress
and i think there's something if not beautiful, then at least really neat in that

I still think about during my last semester of undergrad I took comparative religion as an elective and this was during covid and a bad wildfire season so everybody around me was losing their jobs, homes, health. And one day during Zoom class someone explained the word “yeet” to my comparative religion professor as the opposite of yoink
And without any hesitation she said “Ah, so the lord yeetith and the lord yoinkith away”
And when I tell you that kept me going for at least a week
