it's moments like this that make me surprise how there's barely any André salt/bashing fics
I think part of that is the fact that, up until Season 4-5, Andre was in the category of 'well-meaning, but still fucking up'.
And then anyone who has stuck around through Season 4-5 is either chilling on vibes and acting like it's fine(understandable) or has decided to sandbox the shit out of the show anyway(also understandable).
The height of salt is season 3 era where it /was/ legitimate bad faith interpretations and making shit up to bash characters, and those people left.

Deciding if I want everyone to have multiple outfits, or just Marinette. I know the answer is yes, but my fashion sense is personally awful.

You mean 'Showing Love' that you made in 2023? I read that fics and Instead of stopping there, the story might go further since Marinette's character could be expanded to show how, despite Chloe's wealth, not everyone is fortunate enough to have a family like hers.
Unfortunately, it seems that you have no desire to depict Marinette in a difficult situation or as a mistake-prone person when it comes to Chloe, who is genuinely this way because of her parents' poor parenting methods.
I don't understand this ask? It's anonymous so I don't know what you are picking up off of.
Canon shows Marinette making scads of mistakes related to Chloé. I don't need to invent new ones, I just need to address the ones that exist. Marinette does still make mistakes in regards to Chloé in my fics. Those mistakes are just generally addressed fairly quickly rather than drawn out for tons of angst.

Thanks for the response on the Andre piece.
I was worried I was reading too much into the potential one side emotional incest angle but it seems everyone I mention it too gets it off the cuff.
Like horrifying obviously, but also aligns way to fucking well with how the relationship operated in the canon for comfort actually.
ML is the single best show I've ever encountered for accidently creating realistic toxic dynamics and child abuse.

This. André raising his daughter to be his wife is all kinds of creepy.
One interesting thing regarding Chloe's shift from fight to fawn is it seems to largely only apply to her mother & Ladybug. It seems rare she if ever that she tries to like, fawn on an Akuma, usually defaulting to run and if that doesn't work 'fight' as best she can. I guess its a case of survival mechanism trumping abuse encoding, cos she knows fawning and freezing won't work so its just react, react, react
Yeah, seems to be? I THINK I remember a few times she Fawned at her dad, but I can’t remember if that was in response to him being a dick, or if she was trying to get him to do something for her, and she just started with Fawn instead of Fight. But even if she did, it’s not often.

What Could Go Wrong?
“You said one person, right?”
“Fair is fair Chat. I told my secret to a friend, and I’d rather you told a confidant directly rather than it slipping out in a moment of weakness.” Ladybug appeared to shudder at a memory. “I’ll trust your judgement as long as you trust them”
“I do.” He said with conviction.
Adrien had initially thought of Nino. His bro. His ride or die. Heck, he was the one who *taught* him the term ride or die.
But as much as he cared for his best bud, Nino didn’t exactly have the best track record for keeping secrets, especially from his girlfriend. And somehow Adrien had trouble picturing the Ladyblogger having discretion when it came to superhero matters. Leaving just one person….
“I’ll be transparent LB” he said, leaning against the roof chimney. “While I trust them, there have been times when we haven’t gotten along. Like when I started school for the first time.” Adrien shook his head at the memory, and mentally congratulated himself on how much he had grown since that first day out of his bubble. “I’ve even wonder at times if I somehow offended this person or done something wrong because they would seem to avoid me on purpose.”
Ladybug nodded along sympathetically.
“But other times, they’ve really been there to comforted me and support me. I know they care, even if they have an - er - strange way of expressing it…” he trailed off before meeting ladybug’s eyes again.
“I just” he exhaled, “I just want to be closer to them, and if sharing this secret helps break down those barriers, it’s worth it to me.”
Ladybug’s eyes softened as she cracked a smile. “This person sounds very special.”
“I don’t know what I’d do without them.”
“Then you have my blessing Chat”
Adrien beamed.
“Well in that case m’Ladybug, is it alright if I leave patrol early? I don’t want this to wait any longer”
A laugh from Ladybug, “Yes! Chat go! and I really hope this person is able to give you all the support you deserve.”
“He will!” Chat called back, already a rooftop away, not wanting to delay a second longer from sharing his secret with his father.

Exactly. This is basically Marinette's arc in Chasing a Dream in regards to Chloé, minus the time travel stuff
Say, when you said that idea of a time traveler from adulthood goes back into their teen body & realizes Chloe is both not as bad as they remembered & also an abused kid in crisis would make a good oneshot.
Which character do you think would fill the role best?
Honestly it could probably be almost any of them given the key thing is "Has an adult perspective" combined with "The Closeness to the situation of being Chloe's peer". But if you opted to write it who would you pick?
Marinette seems like the most obvious one for narrative weight. I already like writing stories where Marinette finally is able to really see into and process Chloé's home life.

Chuck Jone's rules for good animation
All living creatures, fictional or not, have anatomy. Equally true of an amoeba, an angle worm, a mastodon , and a Grinch.
If you want believability in your characters, you must have visual consistency. In animation, each character must move according to its own anatomical limitations: Daffy duck must move with Daffy Duck’s anatomy, Donald Duck with Donald Duck’s structure. The amoeba’s anatomy seems to have only one restriction - its bulk; like an inflated baloon, it can vary its shape, but it cannot change its volume. That is, if you want a believable amoeba
All animals - humanized animals or animalized animals - must appear to stand, walk , run or skip under the stablizing pressure of gravity in order to achieve believeability
There is no sympathy without believability, no real laughter without sympathy.
In the sympathetic recognition of any character there must be some evidence of one’s own self, one’s own weaknesses, one’s own mistakes, no matter how well self-concealed, buttoned down or pigeonholded.
The flimmaker as well as the viewer must be able to find the character within himself. We cannot fashion personalities from what we SUPPOSE another person to be.
If you start with character, you probably will end up with good drawings. If you start out with drawings you will almost certinly end up with limited characters, caught in the matrix of your limited drawing. Therefore…
It is not what or where a character is, nor is it the circumsances under which he finds himself that determine who he is. It is only how in a unique way he responds to that enviorment and those circumstances that identifies him as an individual. hopefully, an interesting character becomes interesting because of that uniqueness among his contemporaries.
For identity, you do not DRAW differently, you THINK differently. It is the WHO of the character , not the WHAT that counts. Walk- through circus clowns depend upon WHAT they look like for their brand of comedy. That is WHAT they are. Comedians depend upon HOW they move for comedy and pathos - their wonderful who-ness.
As the writer John Buchan said, you will never succeed in playing a part unless you convince yourself that you are it.
Animation means to invoke life, not to imitate it.
no great children’s book, film or fable was ever written for children. It was written for the witer, the artist , the flimmaker. Again, the mark of any ’ great work ’ for children, from one by Beatrix Potter to a book br Dr. Seuss , can be easily identified: if it can be read with pleasure by adults it is probably a very good, possibly a great, childrens book.
you cannot write DOWN to an audience or to your subject. you must write UP to them with the certainty that you cannot ever do justice to your subject, but must bend every creative nerve and muscle of your heart and brain to its full capacity in an attempt to do so.
The least you owe an audience is the best you can do
No art form can exist without restrictive disciplines. Most of the great paintings in history have been caught in the terrible discipline of the rectangle. The flimmaker finds himself trapped in the exact and severe disciplines of both the rectangle an time. Most cinema features are in a time warm of 90 to 120 minutes, most animated cartoon shorts in a confinement of 6 minutes.
You must not complain of your restrictions. If you cannot live with them, find a discipline you can live with.

Above is a section from Chuck Jone’s book Chuck Reducks. I’ve bolded some of my favorite and most inspirational rules. Forgive me some spelling errors. I was staring at the book while I was typing so I wasnt really watching the screen haha.
