Review - Es Angel, es demonio de Mar Petryk ENGLISH

I'm here to tell you about a book I read a long time ago (around December of last year): Es Angel, Es demonio by Mar Petryk. TW: Violence, Abuse, Kidnapping.

I had been following the author but I didn't dare to read anything by her until I brought out this beautiful reissue of her first book and said "it's my moment".

Translation of the summary: If you have this diary in your hands, it is because a man came into my life like a hurricane, destroying everything in his path. Years ago I write - I remember - compulsively and meticulously, every day, hour, minute and second that I spent with him. His eyes, his voice, his lips, his hands dyed red caressing my face. Love. The fear. It is this failed attempt to detoxify the soul that gives birth to this diary, this story. My mouth spits out what my mind revives. Cultivate patience and remember, Memory is selective.

In itself, it is quite an intense story, in which we meet Bas from her diary writing, Angel (it kills me that his name is ANGEL BLANCO, which translates to white angel) and we see how their very tangled relationship unfolds.

From this reading I have written, "I liked it a little bit, I grew fond of it a little bit, I cried a little bit". And that's how I remember it.

What I liked the most was the construction of the protagonists, in the midst of a jumble of problems that are narrated with so much enigma that it drives you crazy (lit had me screaming, tell me now!), and the way they were written seems to me exquisite, you can see the reflection in its creation. I must mention that her way of relating frustrated me a lot, in fact, the protagonists start with a rather questionable relationship, many times situations that made me think "Get out of there Bas, plis" (many times she also got on my nerves, perhaps because we are super different I would never have done what she did). By the end, one gets to see their development, both personally and in their relationship.

One thing that is not clear to me, and that remains in my mind to this day, is whether Bas is the older sister or Javier. I think I read that Bas was the oldest but in my mind it doesn't add up.

It is a reading that is enjoyed, that makes you feel like its characters, you live it and it disarms you and then rebuilds you. Although I was expecting it to destroy me a lot more, other reviews I read were super bummed out, and it didn't affect me as much. And the truth is that I wanted it to end sad, but I want everything to end sadly.

Vengo a hablarles de un libro que leí hace ya un montón (a eso de diciembre del año pasado): Es Ángel, es demonio de Mar Petryk. TW: Violencia, Abuso, Secuestro.

Venia siguiendo a la autora pero no me animaba a leer nada de ella hasta que saco esta reedición hermosa de su primer libro y dije "es mi momento".

Sinapsis: Si tienes este diario en tus manos, es porque un hombre llegó a mi vida como un huracán, destrozando todo a su paso. Hace años escribo - recuerdo- compulsiva y meticulosamente, cada día, hora, minuto y segundo que pasé con él. Sus ojos, su voz, sus labios, sus manos teñidas de rojo acariciando mi rostro. El amor. El miedo. Es este fallido intento por desintoxicar el alma lo que da a luz a este diario, a esta historia. Mi boca escupe lo que mi mente revive. Cultiven la paciencia y recuerden, La memoria es selectiva.

En si es una historia bastante intensa, en la que conocemos a Bas a partir de su escritura en un diario, a Ángel (que me mata que se llame ANGEL BLANCO) y vemos como su enredadísima relación se desenvuelve.

De esta lectura tengo escrito "Me gusto un poquito, me encariñe un poquito, llore un poquito". Y es así como la recuerdo.

Lo que más me gusto fue la construcción de los protagonistas, en el medio de un revuelto de problemáticas que se narran con tanto enigma que te saca de quicio (lit me tenía gritando ¡decime yaa!), la forma en que fueron escritos me parece exquisita, se nota la reflexión en su creación. Debo mencionar que su forma de relacionare me frustraba bastante, en si los protagonistas comienzan con una relación bastante cuestionable, muchas veces situaciones que me hacía pensar "salí de ahí Bas, plis" (muchas veces ella también me sacaba de quicio, quizás porque somos super distintas yo nunca hubiera hecho lo que ella). Para el final uno logra ver su desarrollo, tanto personal como en su relación.

Una cosa que no me quedo clara, y que hasta hoy me quedo en la mente, es si Bas es la hermana mayor o Javier. Creo haber leído que Bas era la mayor pero en mi mente no me dan las cuentas.

Es una lectura que se disfruta, que te hace sentir como sus personajes, lo vivís y te desarma para después volverte a construir. Aunque esperaba que me destruya mucho más, otras reseñas que leí estaban super descorazonadas, y en mí no tuvo tanto efecto. Y la verdad quería que terminara triste, pero yo quiero que todo termine triste.

Los horarios son:

Lunes a viernes de 14:00 a 22:00.

Sábados y domingos de 13:00 a 22:00.

Sábado 30 de abril.  Por celebrarse la Noche de la Feria el horario será de 13:00 a 24:00.

El precio de las entradas varia entre $300-450 dependiendo el dia, con ingreso gratuido para menoresde 12 años, esdurdiantes, jubilados, pensionados, docentes y mas.

My ideas for this book are scattered. We start with the characters who are both deep and shallow at the same time; meaning that on one hand it's very developed the ptsd and the psychological aspects of the trauma they went through but still empty enough to not really know them outside it. Maybe it was the intent of showing how traumatic events can consume you completely. But I'm not sure.

I've read it on audiobook, it's fast and approachable. The narrator does a great job. It's not very long even though it took me a while to get a hold on it, was it because of the subject that may make me blue or that it's just wasn't as captivating as I expected.

Although enjoyable it left no impact on me whatsoever.

Mis ideas para este libro están dispersas. Empezamos con los personajes que son a la vez profundos y superficiales; lo que quiero decir es que, por un lado, están muy desarrollados sus teps y los aspectos psicológicos del trauma por el que pasaron, pero aún están lo suficientemente vacíos como para no conocerlos realmente fuera de él. Tal vez fue la intención de mostrar cómo los eventos traumáticos pueden consumirte por completo. Pero no estoy seguro.

Lo he leído en audiolibro, es rápido y accesible. El narrador hace un gran trabajo. No es muy largo a pesar de que me tomó un tiempo conseguirlo, ¿fue por el tema que puede ponerme triste o porque simplemente no fue tan cautivador como esperaba?

Aunque agradable, no me dejó ningún impacto en absoluto.

Muerte en el Nilo, la película - Reseña.

Las vacaciones egipcias del detective belga Hércules Poirot a bordo de un glamoroso barco de vapor se convierten en la aterradora búsqueda de un asesino cuando la idílica luna de miel de una pareja perfecta se ve truncada de la forma más trágica. Linnet Ridgeway muerta de un tiro a la cabeza.

Protagonizada por celebridades como Gal Gadot, Kenneth Bramagh, Emma Mackey (en mi opinión la mejor actuación de la peli), esta adaptación de la famosa novela de Agatha Christie se toma todas las libertades. Sacando personajes, cambiando su historia, sus personalidades hace su mejor intento para contar esta obsesiva historia.

Yendo al punto, no me gusto. Perdió esa locura que la lectura de la novela genera. El agregado de un poco de la vida de Poirot no me convence, lo más atractivo del personaje en el no saber que pinta de su vida, o al menos no del todo; las razones por su agregado no son difíciles de descifrar, pero eso no hace que me guste. Además, una parte de mi estuvo siempre segura de que Poirot era gay (aunque sobre la sexualidad, queerness y Agatha Christie hay mucho para hablar) y ver como trataban de ponerle una pareja de manera tan forzada todavía no me cierra. También sigo amargada que me sacaron a los Allen y a Cornelia, que ame en el libro.

Rodeada de paisajes fenomenales, puestas en escenas preciosas, cuenta la historia de manera rápida y yéndose incluso hacia lo considerado vulgar para la época en la que la historia se sitúa, o sea todo bien pero no te vemos en mediados de los 30 teniendo sexo entre las estatuas de un monumento egipcio.

Quizá como película sola este bien. Si no fuera adaptación, si no fuera mi querido Poirot, si no conocieras la historia es posible que se encuentre incluso entretenida.

Belgian detective Hercules Poirot's Egyptian vacation aboard a glamorous steamboat becomes the terrifying search for a murderer when the idyllic honeymoon of a perfect couple is cut short in the most tragic way. Linnet Ridgeway was shot in the head.

Starring celebrities such as Gal Gadot, Kenneth Branagh, Emma Mackey (in my opinion the best performance in the film), this adaptation of Agatha Christie's famous novel takes all the liberties. By taking out characters, changing their story, their personalities; tries their best to tell this obsessive story.

Straight to the point, I did not like it. It lost that madness that reading the novel generates. The addition of a little of Poirot's life does not convince me, the most attractive thing about the character in not knowing what he paints of his life, or at least not at all; the reasons for their addition aren't hard to decipher, but that doesn't make me like it. In addition, a part of me was always sure that Poirot was gay (although about sexuality, queerness, and Agatha Christie there is a lot to talk about), and seeing how they tried to put a partner in such a forced way still does not persuade me. I also remain bitter in how they took out the Allertons and Cornelia, whom I loved in the book.

Surrounded by phenomenal landscapes, set in beautiful scenes, it tells the story quickly and even goes towards what would be considered vulgar for the time in which the story is situated. I mean everything is fine, but I don’t know about having sex between the statues of an Egyptian monument in the mid-30s.

Maybe as a single film, it's fine. If it were not an adaptation, if it were not my dear Poirot, if you did not know the story it may even be entertaining.

As a 3.5/5 film as a 2/5 adaptation

Muerte en el Nilo de Agatha Christie - Reseña

La joven Linnet Ridgeway lo posee todo: belleza, riqueza, amor y aparece muerta durante el crucero por el Nilo mientras celebraba su luna de miel. Un disparo en la cabeza. El gran Hércules Poirot se encargará de resolver este nuevo misterio.

Es una historia policial de manual. Chica asesinada en un lugar donde solo un restringido grupo de personajes pudieron haber cometido tal horrible crimen.

Dividí el libro en 2. Su primera mitad está basada en la presentación de los personajes, vemos diferentes dinámicas, posibles motivos, posibles inocencias. Demasiado larga. Mucho sobre ir de un lado a otro por Egipto, de que este personaje esta viajando con este otro, que estos se odian por esta razón, que a este le gusta esta, etc. etc. etc. Para cuando llegas a la segunda mitad, no solo no recordás bien que personaje era cual, sino que ya no te interesa demasiado.

Una vez que se comete el asesinato la historia se pone interesante; avanza con agilidad y empiezan a tener sentido los nudos que atrapan esta historia. Todos los personajes entrelazados. Esta me gustó mucho más.

Como siempre Poirot me hace feliz con su presencia, algunos personajes se ganaron mi aprecio y me engaño feo la autora. Yo estaba convencidísima que no fue quien realmente fue. Y el dramatismo del final me termino de comprar para cerrar perfectamente esta historia.

Lectura rápida, más rápida pasada la larga introducción, y entretenida para leer en una tarde acurrucados en un rincón. Es un buen libro, quizá no mi favorito de la autora, pero claramente no su peor. Simplemente una historia para disfrutar.

Young Linnet Ridgeway has it all: beauty, wealth, love and turns up dead during a cruise in the Nile while celebrating her honeymoon. A shot to the head. The great Hercules Poirot will be in charge of solving this new mystery.

It's a textbook crime story. Girl murdered in a place where only a restricted group of characters could have committed such a horrible crime.

I divided the book into 2. Its first half is based on the presentation of the characters, we see different dynamics, possible motives, possible innocence. Too long. A lot about going from one place to another in Egypt, that this character is traveling with this other, that they hate each other for this reason, that this one likes this one, etc. etc. etc. By the time you get to the second half, not only do you not remember well which character was which, but you are no longer very interested.

Once the murder is committed the story gets interesting; developing with agility and the knots that catch this story begins to make sense. All characters intertwined. I liked this one much more.

As always Poirot makes me happy with his presence, some characters earned my appreciation, and I was ugly deceived by the author. I was extremely convinced the murderer wasn’t who really was. And the drama of the end finishes buying me to close this story perfectly.

Quick reading, faster after the long introduction, and entertaining to read in an afternoon curled up in a corner. It's a good book, perhaps not my favorite of the author, but clearly not her worst. Just something to enjoy.

Frankenstein de Mary Shelley – Reseña

“Todos los hombres odian al desdichado, ¡como, entonces, no voy a ser odiado yo, que soy el más desgraciado de los seres vivientes! Hasta tú, mi creador, me detestas y me rechazas. Soy tu criatura, a quien estas ligado por uniones que solo pueden romperse con la aniquilación de uno de nosotros. Tienes la intensión de matarme. ¿Cómo te atreves a jugar así con la vida? (...)”

Narra la historia de Víctor Frankenstein, cómo descubrió el secreto para dar vida a la carne muerta y cómo creó el monstruo que después se rebeló contra él y al que ahora persigue. El primer impulso era crear una historia aterradora pero el proceso creativo de la autora hizo de esta novela una obra cuyo hilo vertebrador es la profundización y el estudio del alma humana...

Clásico de clásicos no decepciona al prometer grandeza. Todos conocemos, hasta algún exento, la historia. Siempre me sentí fascinada por el concepto, creador rechaza creación hasta el punto en el que ambos juran desperdiciar sus días para asegurar el fin del otro.

Narrando en cartas los relatos dentro de los relatos dentro de los relatos, esta novela logra una descripción de los sentimientos de los personajes de una manera excepcional. Párrafos sobre la belleza que encuentran en la vida, sobre lo desdichados que se creen, sus deseos, sus temores. Cada oración les da complejidad a ellos, y la complejidad los hace reales, ¿no?

No estoy capacitada para darles el mejor análisis de la obra, pero si puedo compartirles lo que género en mí. Disfrute bastante esta lectura, pesada y tediosa como es, el carácter dramático de cada segundo de los personajes me llevo completamente a la gloria. ¡Que forma de expresar tanta intensidad en tan simples palabras!

Es una historia simple, quizá hasta predecible. El desarrollo de los personajes a lo largo de la historia es precioso, ver como Víctor se convierte de un joven científico entusiasmado con la idea de poder controlar la vida a un desdichado ser perseguido por las consecuencias que el querer ser más trae. ¡Y el monstruo!, ver como de la ingenuidad y la esperanza termina aceptando el rol demoniaco que se le dio.

Mis criticas van a lo cansado que esta gran expresión de los personajes puede llegar a resultar. Por momentos tenia que dejar el libro por lo abrumador que se hacía. Amo lo intenso que es, pero hay momentos en los que se necesita un descanso porque sino te consume.

Es de esas historias que me gustaría sentarme y escuchar todos los análisis posibles que le podrían hacer. Tiene razón de ser tan venerada.

Narrates the story of Victor Frankenstein, how he discovered the secret in giving life to the dead flesh and how he created the monster that later rebelled against him and now pursues him. The first impulse was to create a terrifying story, but the creative process of the author made this novel a work whose backbone thread is the deepening and study of the human soul.

Classic of classics does not disappoint by promising greatness. We all know, at some exempt, the history. I was always fascinated by the concept, creator rejects creation to the point where both swear to waste their days to ensure the end of the other.

Narrating in letters stories within stories within stories, this novel achieves the description of the feelings of the characters in an exceptional way. Paragraphs about the beauty they find in life, about how miserable they believe to be, their desires, their fears. Every sentence gives them complexity, and complexity makes them real, doesn't it?

I am not able to give you the best analysis of the work, but I can share with you what it created in me. Enjoyed this reading a lot, heavy and tedious as it is, the dramatic constitution of the characters took me completely to glory. What a way to express so much intensity in such simple words!

It's a simple, perhaps even predictable story. The development of the characters throughout the story is beautiful, to see how Victor becomes a young scientist enthusiastic about the idea of being able to control life to an unfortunate being persecuted by the consequences that wanting to be more brings. And the monster! seeing so naive and hopeful, ends up accepting the demonic role that was given to him.

My criticisms go to how tired this great expression of the characters can be. At times I had to leave the book because of how overwhelming it was. I love how intense it is, but there are times when you need a break because otherwise it consumes you.

It's one of those stories that I'd like to sit back and listen to all the possible analyses that could be done to it. It has reason to be so revered.

"Chef´s Kiss" by Jarrett Melendez - Review

"Now that college is over, English graduate Ben Cook is on the job hunt looking for something…anything…related to his passion for reading and writing. Interview after interview, Ben soon learns getting the dream job won’t be as easy as he thought. Not enough experience. But when Ben stumbles upon a “Now Hiring—No Experience Necessary” sign outside a restaurant, he jumps at the chance to land his first job. He’s actually not so bad in the kitchen, but he will have to pass a series of cooking tests to prove he’s got the culinary skills to stay on full-time. But it’s only temporary…right? "

This is the cutest graphic novel I've ever read! Such a sweet story; the characters are incredibly complex and real, the drawings are amazing and the writing gives the best companionship.

I loved this story. - I mean it's about food and gay - it doesn't get better than that.

My biggest pet peeve is how much some things were explained, if you skipped them the story would be the same. Some scenes added nothing to the story and felt like a waste

Overall a great experience.

Ahora que la universidad ha terminado, Ben Cook está en la búsqueda de trabajo ... cualquier cosa... relacionado con su pasión por la lectura y la escritura. Entrevista tras entrevista, Ben pronto aprende que conseguir el trabajo soñado no será tan fácil como pensaba. No tiene suficiente experiencia. Pero cuando Ben se topa con un letrero de "Ahora contratando, no es necesaria la experiencia" fuera de un restaurante, aprovecha la oportunidad de conseguir su primer trabajo. En realidad, no es tan malo en la cocina, pero tendrá que pasar una serie de pruebas de cocina para demostrar que tiene las habilidades culinarias para permanecer a tiempo completo. Pero es solo temporal... ¿Verdad?

¡Es la novela gráfica más tierna que leí en mi vida!

Una historia tan dulce; con personajes increíblemente complejos y reales, los dibujos son increíbles y la escritura le da la mejor compañía.

Me encanta esta historia - quiero decir es sobre comida y gay - no hay mejor que eso.

Mi mayor problema es lo mucho que se explicaron algunas cosas; si te los omitieras la historia sería la misma. Algunas escenas no le sumaron nada a la historia y se sintió como un desperdicio.

En general, una buena experiencia.
