15.06.2021 ~ Sneaky peek because I haven't posted this picture on instagram yet š¤«āØ
This is a new aria I'm studying at the moment, it's called Oh had I Jubel's Lyre! It's my first oratory, Joshua by HƤndel, and I love the sound of it! The aria is so light and joyful, and it's coloratura which is new for me. But I'm excited to sing it!
Do you like to sing as well or do you play an instrument?

How to Really Comprehend a Scientific Paper
**credit to my research advisor, sheās an amazing mentor and I aspire to be just like her someday :)
Read the abstract. Write down what the paper says it is going to be about.
Read the introduction. Write down what the paper says it is looking to accomplish and how.
Read the conclusion. Write down what the paper actually did accomplish.
Go through and find all the pictures, graphs, or diagrams. Write notes explaining these images to yourself.
Read the whole paper start to finish. Write a summary of the paper as though you are explaining it to a layperson, and then another summary as though you are explaining it to a colleague.
Throughout all of the above steps:
If there are words you donāt know google them and write down the definitions
If the paper defines a formula, law, variable, etc in a certain way write that down
If there are references to or recommendations of other literature write those down. After the last step if thereās anything youāre uncertain about or would like more information on look to that list for further reading

Not all studying is made equal. There are actually two different types of learning, active and passive. This post will discuss the differences between them and explain how you can use active learning to get the most out of your study sessions.
PASSIVE LEARNING
Passive learning is when youāreĀ merely sitting back and absorbing the information, like a sponge absorbing water. This includes:
reading a textbook
rereading/rewriting notes
highlighting
listening to a lecture
watching a documentary or demonstration
All of the above methods essentially involve just exposing yourself to the material and naĆÆvely hoping some of it will stick. This isĀ not effective for long-term retention or critical analysis.
Of course, quickly skimming over your notes might be helpful the morning of an exam, and it is certainly better than not studying at all. But if your tests involve writing essays, analyzing arguments, or building off of concepts to create new ones, passive studying is not recommended. Instead, you should useā¦
ACTIVE LEARNING
You learn best when you are forced toĀ actively engageĀ with the material. Active learning strategies include:
testing yourself with flashcards
answering practice problems
identifying patterns and cause/effect relationships
creating connections between topics
explaining concepts to others
formulating questions that push your learning further
revising notes (Note that this is different from rewriting, which is a passive learning technique. Turning your lecture notes into different forms, such as mind maps, sketchnotes, and summaries is an effective learning method. Copying your textbook onto lined paper and going over it with gel pens + Mildliners is not.)
discussing, debating, and challenging
These methods require you toĀ analyze, synthesize, and evaluate information, strengthening both your memory and comprehension. That sounds a little intimidating, but active learning is easier to implement than it sounds. For example, my favorite way to study for history is to pretend Iām the teacher and explain a topic out loud to my invisible āstudentsā. Flashcards and writing unique sentences is great for foreign languages. For math, Iāll always try to prove every formula or theorem I use instead of merely memorizing it. If youāre not used to using active learning methods, the extra effort may present a challenge at first, but I promise itāll lead to improved understanding and better grades in the end!
THE LEARNING TRIANGLE
The learning triangle ranks learning techniques based on how much information we retain afterwords. Iām not sure I agree with all the exact percentages, but itās safe to say that the general order and concept is correct. If you want to improve the effectiveness of your study sessions, try to use learning methodsĀ near the bottom of the triangle, as well as all the active learning strategies I mentioned earlier. Personally, I created a list of my favorite active learning strategies to hang up above my desk as a constant reminder to be an active studier.
And there you have it! Active learning will help you improve recall and comprehension in a very short amount of time. Itās one of the best ways to study smarter, not harder. Next time you sit down to study, go give those active learning methods a try!
Thanks for reading! If you have questions, feedback, or post requests, feel free toĀ drop me an ask. To find the rest of my original posts, clickĀ here. :)

BACK & BETTER THAN EVER BBY š„°š„°
I'm not going to be doing the 100 day challenge anymore because I've obviously been pretty ~inconsistent~ with it, but if there are any new challenges pls don't be afraid to tag me or lmk I'd love to take part !!!
I had a pretty productive day, if I do say so myself. I did watch quite a few youtube videos, but they kind of kept me going throughout the day. This one girl goes to university in Scotland and it made me think about how fun it would be to go to uni abroad. It would be so expensive though; I'd have to win a whole-ass lottery to be able to afford it š
anyways, see y'all later
much love xx

Studying is not a burden.
Say it with meĀ
We are privileged to study.
I see people cribbing and crying about not wanting to study but all those of you who say that do you realise how special and privileged we are?
We all must make complete use of our resources and the gift our parents have given to us which is education. Millions around the world would rather want to study than do anything else. We can be tired of studying but we must never not want to study. Donāt study for your parents or for your teachers study for yourself and those who arenāt able to.
Study and give back the opportunity you received to others.
Study to absorb knowledgeĀ
Study to change the worldĀ
Just studyĀ
