5 Tips for Eating Healthy on Super Bowl Sunday
Although it’s not a crime to indulge in your favorite foods and desserts a little bit during your Super Bowl party, it’s important to eat healthy during this year’s much anticipated game. No matter who you’re rooting for, be sure to keep these tips in mind!
Water is your friend. You’re probably going be working up a sweat from jumping up and down whenever your team scores a touchdown (hopefully!) Skip the soda and keep ice-cold bottles of water around to help energize your muscles and control calories.
Try new, healthier recipes. Remember, healthier does not mean less tasty! Replace the mozzarella sticks and nachos for some of health.com’s super healthy and delicious Super Bowl snacks. Who knew lemon-drop chicken wings, zucchini fries, and artichoke dip would each be under 200 calories?!
Control your portions. While intently watching the screen you’re less likely to pay attention to what you’re eating, which may lead to unknowingly consuming more calories than you should. Before the big game, plan out your menu and determine what amounts are suggested, and what portions may be excessive.
Get your friends in on game plan. You’ll feel more motivated to eat healthier if your peers are doing the same. A group effort will benefit everyone if you keep each other in check during the game!
Dance it off! Surely one of the best and easiest forms of exercise, dancing during this year’s halftime show will help burn calories faster! It won’t be hard; after all Katy Perry is taking the stage with hits like “This is How We Do” and “Dark Horse”— but this just in, Missy Elliott will be joining the pop star during the show! The duo will definitely make you lose control.

10 Places Where #HealthIT Is Transforming Breast Cancer
Tumblr media
Survival rates and quality of life for breast cancer patients and survivors are increasing; so what does the latest in health information technology have to do with this good news?
Tumblr media
These technologies are bringing us one or two steps closer to finding a cure this National Breast Cancer Awareness Month:
State-of-the-art Digital Mammogram Screenings @ the Women’s Imaging Center at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, where comfort is the central goal along with offering patients secure and educational results. http://ow.ly/CnqOu
Evelyn Lauder’s Breast Cancer Research Foundation will give more than $47 million this year to hundreds of scientists who have achieved grand milestones in their study to further and effectively steer the way to a cure. See the grantees @ http://bit.ly/1pbSc8C
Robotic technology originally used at NASA is now being used for breast cancer biopsies to improve accuracy and higher precision. "It's everything we would want it to be, because first of all it may reduce burden on the health-care system, but it also shows that this technology is not unique to space,” says Pierre Jean, director at the Canadian Space Agency. http://ow.ly/CnBVW
New technology could help women diagnosed with specific breast cancers avoid nonessential treatment. A UK startup firm is developing a treatment that uses the objective evaluation of software rather than the subjective judgement of a pathologist to improve accuracy of diagnosis. http://ow.ly/CovZH
New 3D technology including 3D breast tomosynthesis and ultrasound might take the place of the 2D technology we use today for detecting breast cancer. Such devices will be able to detect hidden sections otherwise undiscovered by conventional mammograms. http://ow.ly/Coyt
Breast cancer survivors have fertile new hopes of motherhood after chemotherapy. Holly Lefkow, RN at at South Florida Institute for Reproductive Medicine, notes fertility methods 20 years ago were “unlikely”. Now, preserving eggs or embryos before treatment can have high success rates for cancer patients. http://ow.ly/CoDnu
The ultrasound elastography— a test which comprehensively differentiates between health and cancerous tissues in mammograms is the latest in breast cancer diagnosis technology. Clinicians practice reading these tests by using “the virtual breast” to help improve test results. http://ow.ly/CoGV
Genetic Technologies Limited has just launched BREVAGenplus in the US, an easy to use test that determines clinical risk factors. Results from the test will better inform physicians and patients and prompt more effective treatments. http://ow.ly/CoODd
Surgical oncologist, Anita Johnson highlights the MarginProbe System, a test that assists surgeons in detecting cancerous cells in removed tissues, and states that improvements in new technologies used for treatments is helping increase survival rates. http://ow.ly/CoT9d
“My Breast Cancer Journey” is the newest app from health startup Willowglade Technologies, and it aims to assist breast cancer patients with information resources and support for recovery process. http://ow.ly/CoTcx

Three Key Factors That Influence Poor Health Literacy
A national survey conducted by the Department of Education found that only 1 in 10 Americans have comprehensive understanding about their medical care and health insurance. In result, low health literacy has played a critical role in the economic inefficiency of the U.S. healthcare system. Healthcare costs will continue to increase from an estimated $106 billion to $236 billion annually.
Tumblr media
Since the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, insurers have made a conscious effort to improve health literacy, however it is now imperative that providers proceed to locate the source of patient confusion before the next enrollment period in November.
Here are three factors that are usually overlooked by health professionals:
Intimidation – Fear of the unknown is a common contributor to poor communication. Patients are scared to ask questions when it comes to understanding aspects of their health or comprehending basic health instructions.
Complex terminology – Research found that millions of Obamacare consumers were “buying on faith” because they did not understand their basic health plan design. Physicians have to be mindful that their patients are not medical students. A second vocabulary that consists of simpler terms will result in better outcomes for patients.
Anxiety – During a time of urgent care is when patients retain the least amount of information. High levels of stress can serve as a distraction during a time when you have to remember large amounts of information.
ACOs have approached this issue head on through leadership efforts and promotion of educational materials by medical professionals. As health literacy improves, patients will feel more empowered to make efficient health decisions.

AdWeek Round-Up: Digital Ads Dominate Panel Discussions
As Advertising Week 2014 came to a close last Friday, one thing was predominated the conversation: Digital. Influencers from across industries weighed in on the state of the marketing and ad industries. Topics included closed loop marketing, native advertising, and social media; panel discussions included “Branded.Content” and “Content Marketing Success Stories,” among others.
Tumblr media
Partnership branding was also a key buzzpoint during the week-long discussion. Netflix and The New York Times were used as shining examples of storytelling and consumer engagement The New York Times introduced a social news piece through their brand studio titled, “Women Inmates: Why the Male Model Doesn’t Work”, a collaboration with the popular Netflix show “Orange is the New Black”. For the first time, the revered media platform Netflix, was not seen as a streaming platform but as a company that supports social change according to Tom Foran, chief revenue officer at Outbrain.
“[Netflix is] a transformational company that has the ability to raise awareness of real issues in the world through both its original programming and its sponsorship of journalism.”
Tumblr media
Perhaps the most important topic was native advertising through mobile mediums. Today, mobile usage consist of 60% of digital media consumption and many predict that mobile will eventually take the place of the television.
A recent Nielsen report found that 84% of mobile consumers watch television with a second screen. As wearables and smartphones continue to rise, digital marketers scramble to develop creative mobile strategies for consumers. During AdWeek, Heineken was one of many brands that shared their successful mobile marketing tactic that boosted their brand awareness 29%.
Tumblr media
The end-all AdWeek 2014 experience was great, but not without it’s flaws. Despite some participation from large pharmaceutical industries, health care was almost completely shut out of the conversation. In addition, there were several lacking opportunities to expand on newer trends in B2B marketing and using social media as way to track successes and failures.
