Burmese Cat
The current form of the Burmese cat can trace its roots to one Burmese ancestor named Wong Mau, who was a female Burmese brought to the United States in 1930. The breed originates on the Thai-Burma border where they were known locally as Thongdaeng or Supphalak which means "copper color." The original version of this cat was dark brown but now can be found in many different colors after modern cultivators strengthened the breed by mixing it with other types of cats.

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier (aka Staffie or Stafford) was developed in the 19th century to create a "generic type of dog" by breeding the Bull dog with various terriers. The result is a well-muscled small-to-medium sized dog used for everything from guarding to blood sport. Thankfully dog fighting is no longer allowed in the UK in 1835. The modern Stafford most closely resembles the original Bull Terrier before the two breeds diverged. #staffordshirebullterrier #stafford #staffordshireterrier #staffie #art #jenstoart #jensdogscustom #cute #cartoon #drawing

The American Staffordshire Terrier or AmStaff as it's nicknamed, is a medium-sized well muscled dog that's known for being loyal and confident. They are different from American Pit Bull Terriers based on height (they are shorter) and build, except in the UKC where they are the same breed and the British Staffordshire Terrier is a different breed. All kinds of Staffie are great guard dogs and companion pets.

This month we're celebrating the Siamese Cat
The Siamese is one of the oldest and most recognizable breeds of cat in the history of the world. They're so well known, almost any seal-point patterned cat is often labeled as Siamese. True Siamese cats come from an ancient landrace of native cats called the Wichienmaat from the region of modern Thailand. They are first described in the Tamra Maew, which is a set of ancient manuscripts dating as far aback as 1351AD! Over time, their elegant long bodies and striking coat colors gained them popularity throughout Asia and into Europe.
Find this design and nearly a thousand others on the website.

Turkish Angora
Welcome to 2024. This year I resolve to get back on the ball fleshing out my non-dog offerings here at the dog store! In addition to one dog a month, I'll be doing at least one cat and maybe a couple other things, we'll see. Depends on time. BUT! Here is the first cat of 2024! The Turkish Angora. My gracious model was a Turkish gray named Athena.
The Turkish Angora is one of the oldest, ancestral breed of modern cat. They have slim elegant bodies and long beautiful coats. Outside of the US they are known as Angora or Ankara Cat. They have a curious, playful temperament and bond happily with humans although they'll often pick a favorite member of the family to claim as their "person" and protect.

The Affenpinscher was developed in Germany as a mouse-hunter. The name translates to Monkey Terrier because of their monkey-like faces. Affenpinschers are good companion dogs as much as they are good in-home rodent hunters, with a low-shed wiry coat and a happy disposition. They are an ancestral dog to the Brussel's Griffon who favors them in appearance.

The Sealyham Terrier is named after the Sealyham House in Wales where the breed was originally cultivated. They're considered a "hypoalergenic" breed because they hardly shed even with their two-layer coat. The under-layer is dense and the outer, longer layer, is weather resistant. They were once one of the most popular terrier breeds, but nowadays they're rare and even called endangered in their native lands. This Sealyham is colored to match Stache, the 2023 winner of the Purina National Dog Show! #sealyham #sealyhamterrier #sealyhamterriers #art #dogart #redbubbleartist #teepublicartist #jensdogscustom

Also called the "Louisiana Catahoula," the Catahoula Leopard dog is a very old and mysterious breed. Named after the Catahoula Parish in Lousiana where they were bred and their patchy/spotted leopard-like coats, the origins of the Catahoula breed is not known for certain. They were bred by French settlers in the mid-1700s in order to create the best all-around working dog. The significance of the breed to local history led to the Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog being named state dog of Louisiana. #catahoula #louisiana #jensdogscustom #catahoulaleoparddog

Bedlington Terrier
Bedlington Terriers may look like lambs, but they have the heart of a lion in both love and in bravery! Bedlingtons are known as affectionate pets, but they were bred for rodent hunting and are both fast enough to catch a rabbit and small enough to follow it into its den. Their coats are low-shed and start off very dark as puppies but blanche out as they get older.

Doves are very popular pet birds and have been for centuries. They can live inside or outside, alone or in pairs, and are ideal for apartment or roommate living because they are easy to care for and are relatively quiet. Some doves are better for different living situations and some breeds of dove don't make good pets at all. Research what dove is best for you and you will end up with a sweet and loyal pet that coos.

The Puli is a very old breed, introduced to Hungary from Siberia in the 9th century AD where they became invaluable herding dogs. The corded coats are hairlike in nature, similar to a Poodle’s. In fact, they are ancestors of the modern Poodle, although the Puli was never meant for water sport. Instead, the thick fibrous coats were meant to protect the Puli from wolves who would attack their flocks. They look similar to the larger, white-furred Komondor and in fact work in tandem with them, guarding the livestock at night while the more visible herder is resting.
