Slime rancher guide: pt.1

Disclaimer: I only got this game today, but I feel that I'm doing pretty good, and I wanted to make a guide of things that I wish I had known. Let's get into it:

1. Go on casual mode if you're a beginner. That means no evil slimes (Tarrs), which gives you more time to get used to the game without worrying about all your stuff getting destroyed

2. Get four pink slimes to begin with, and feed them twice a day- this will mean you can feed them when you wake up, explore and collect things (next point), and then you should have more food to feed them before you go to bed

3. Build a silo so you can collect large amounts of fruit and veggies to get a good supply for your slimes

4. Save up for the 'higher walls' unlock for each of your corrals (pink slimes won't try to escape straight away, but other slimes will), and always build your corrals before you get new slimes

5. This is more personal preference, but feed your new slimes 1 pink plort each. This will turn them into hybrids of both pink slimes and the other one, and this will make it so they'll eat anything. Very helpful to do with the meat-eaters

6. Stick with four slimes per corral until you put the net upgrade on it. The more slimes there are, the higher chance they'll escape

7. Don't worry about saving plorts. The tutorial says it could be helpful, but it's a lot quicker to just exchange them all for money

8. Should've mentioned this earlier, but build gardens and plant one of any fruit or veggie so that you have a constant supply (you don't need to re-plant)

9. Phosphorus slimes need solar protection and air nets before you bring them back since they are night-only creatures, and can fly

10. Look for the jumbo slimes and feed them until they pop. You might need to hunt for resources, but you might get a key for a new area when they pop. Just don't fall in the water once you've gathered everything cause you'll lose your stuff

I think that's everything for now. Obviously you don't have to follow this, but these are some things that really help me. I'm a collector, so I save keys until I find every slime and resource, but it's up to you.

Okay, I've achieved something and I'm very proud of it...

I just finished three Pokemon 3ds games in five days!!!!

I'm so proud of myself!!💜💜💜💜

Sorry, I just had to share it. Hours of levelling that took place, so much joy whenever I beat the next gym, and utter satisfaction when I could just walk around and one-shot my opponents.

I have now completed: Pkm Diamond, Pkm Heartgold, Pkm Black V1, Pkm Y and Pkm Alpha Sapphire.

Now I just have about ten more to go (I collect the games).

I'm super happy with myself :)

What a cat wants

I find it helps a lot to explain how a cat sees the world, and what it wants when establishing a ‘territory’ to pretend the cat is some sort of strategic military thinker or that you’re playing a resource management game.

Cats, particularly feral cats, can have territories that vary markedly in size and area, and in terms of how many other cats they will tolerate sharing that space. Outdoor cat proponents will often claim that cats ‘need’ to roam, to have lots of space, but we really don’t want that to happen because the world is not kind to cats, it’s outright dangerous, and we care about their health and welfare.

So, consider the available space from a resource-management standpoint, because that’s kind of what the cat is doing. It has things that are ‘must haves’ which will get increasingly problematic if it doesn’t have them, and things that are ‘super nice’ which improve their lives. If you have enough of these resources, the cat doesn’t need to wander, and can tolerate more cats together in a smaller space.

Your home, which you share with your cat, should be a resource rich area. You are providing for your pet. That’s part of the whole deal about ‘having a pet’.

Must Haves:

A cat’s ‘territory’ (read: their home) must have the following resources for them to remain within it. If they’re inadequate, the cat will actively expand its territory.

Food

Fresh water, ideally in locations separate from the food

Toilet station, ideally in locations separate from the food and the water. Cats may have a preference for litter/substrate type and covered or uncovered trays, but they generally should be spacious and somewhere quiet.

Secure hideout. The definition of ‘secure’ will vary by cat, as some prefer to get as high as possible, some want to be under as many things as possible, but they want a place where they can watch the world and feel safe sleeping.

Really, really want:

A step up from the bare basics, cats still seek out and require the following inside their ‘territory’.

Human companionship. That’s right, for most cats you are a resource. It’s not a coincidence that the cat always seems to be in the same room as you but pretending not to look at you. They want to be around you, some closer than others.

More hiding spots, both high and low

Scratching spots. If they don’t have one, they will make one.

Sunbeam

A place to watch the outdoors. A high vantage point from a window will do, as will a catio or harness walk.

Vertical space! Most cats enjoy climbing and by allowing more vertical spaces it makes what you think of as a small space practically bigger for the cat.

Play! If you don’t give them things to play with, and that includes you, human, they will claim things to play with.

If a cat is lacking one of these resources, it’s natural for them to seek it elsewhere. Can’t access the litter trays because the other cat guards their access and they’re not getting along? Cat will make do somewhere else. Has absolutely zero enrichment or companionship inside? Of course it’s going to want to go outside. That doesn’t mean outside is good, it just means inside wasn’t good enough.

Aardvark

The aardvark (Orycteropus afer) is a medium-sized, burrowing, nocturnal mammal native to Africa. It is the only living species of the order Tubulidentata.  It subsists on ants and termites, which it will dig out of their hills using its sharp claws and powerful legs. Unlike other insectivores, it has a long pig-like snout, which is used to sniff out food. It roams over most of the southern two-thirds of the African continent, avoiding areas that are mainly rocky.

spring people types

Daisies- soo many freckles all over their body, naturally pale hair and usually half tied back, only ever wears eyeliner and sometimes blush, really soft spoken and quiet, believes in ‘kill them with kindness’ (but if needed can still go off on someone), dresses in cropped shirts and skirts of varying lengths, daisy chains obviously, but also flower crowns of all sorts, best friend to talk to when you’re upset, barefoot walks in fields when there’s sun and warm breeze

Painted eggs- split dyed hair, little stickers and fake gems across their face, the kinda crazy friend who goes between ‘i can sit and read all day’ to ‘I’M GONNA GO HIDE PEOPLE’S UNDERWEAR!’, of course they love easter traditions (doesn’t matter how old they are), layered skirts or knee length shorts with way-too-big cardigans and loosely buttoned blouses, they always find weird places to hide things: ‘where is- why is my pencil now taped to the ceiling fan?’

lavender oil- always tired despite the fact that they sleep fine, they have a really chill aura and are good at getting people to relax, they have a sweet and very comforting smell, usually in overalls and old band shirts, surprisingly they’re into alt rock music and can play most of Black Parade on acoustic guitar, collections of flowery perfumes and dried sprigs and petals, short choppy hair worn with clips and the occasional flower pin

rainbows- hopeless romantic, cheesy pickup lines, jokingly flirts with their close friends, long straight hair with bright coloured braids and beads, wears half and half printed sweatpants and cropped jumpers, large round glasses (even though not prescribed), glass pyramids angled for different colours, bubble wands and climbing trees to get good views of the rainbows, they usually smell a little like rain since they stay outside when a rainbow’s made

cherry blossom- chin length pink and white hair, hearts on their face and glittery lipgloss, low-key dresses in kawaii style (layered knee length skirts, blouses with bows, and long gloves), collects figurines, definitely watches anime and listens to vocaloid, can sing really well which is helpful for calming down themselves or others, big fan of sanrio characters and still has a few plushies from their childhood, very good flower photographer, also collects blossoms to draw them

milk tea- hair tied back in messy buns, casual clothes that are almost always paint splattered, the friend who zones out partway through conversations, random sparks of inspiration for art or writing, sooo many stacks of paper with half finished sketches, watercolours work best for them, matcha kitkats and milk tea is the best combo in existence for them, beauty spots under their left eye and collarbones, always loses their pencils

bunnies-  the most adorable people in the world, they have the fluffiest hair and it’s so soft as well, their noses actually twitch sometimes (their friends love it), soft chunky sweaters and white jeans, they usually go barefoot if they’re not going out out, bananas are a staple food at their place, pompoms for comfort, they have very strong legs so don’t piss them off, roasted chestnuts are perfect for any season in their opinion, they have a habit of chewing on things (their fingers, pens, pencil...)

autumn people types (re-post)

scented candles- short pastel coloured hair, shimmery but simple makeup, oversized glasses and jumpers, definitely one of the most chill people to be friends with, acoustic music, blanket nests, taking polaroid photos of the scenery, gentle halloween films

pumpkins- most chaotic energy, long wild hair that’s usually either black, dark red or bright orange, perfect eyeliner and small designs under their eyes, ripped jeans and tall buckled boots, photobombing friends, visiting and recording as many scary places as possible, hard rock music and bad singing

fallen leaves-  another one with chill vibes, braided hair with bobble ties, reading with a lamp during sunsets, absolutely loves cats and probably has at least two, playing guitar over indie songs, gold blush dusted over their cheeks and nose, dimples, roadtrips with friends to get the most out of the good weather

hazelnut lattes- will definitely organise study sessions and any dates at the coziest cafes, has way too many fluffy cushions (they basically swamp the couch), freckles dusted across their face and on their joints, drinks way too much coffee but somehow doesn’t end up completely buzzed, visits the pet store a lot to say hi to the animals, lo-fi playlists in the background

marshmallows- absolutely adorable and gets excited over the little things, has definitely bought face glitter before, quite good at writing poems and will sometimes read them out at a friend’s request, loves going stargazing and can name a few constellations, comfy clothes like baggy jeans and oversized shirts, so supportive in everything, a bit ditzy

wicker baskets- lowkey chaotic: ‘do you think i could catch a badger? or do you think it would bite me?’, saves up all year and then blows the lot at cafes and bookstores, lives off of hot chocolate and caramel, has so many story ideas but never manages to write them down, goes apple picking for the last of the harvest, knows pretty much everyone on their street

cinnamon- kinda crazy ngl, like one minute they’re upset and shouting but then they’ll pause and just hug whoever they were mad at for half an hour, really fluffy curly hair, they don’t tend to dye it that much cause they want to keep it fluffy, love going dogwalking with their friends even though they don’t have a dog, collects keyrings and badges

winter people types (re-post)

snow- quiet and tends to keep to theirself, looks like they have white freckles or glitter on their face, loves experimenting with hairstyles but never keeps it in for more than a couple hours, paints really well with watercolours, beanies and hoodies in tones of blue, they have a collection of different scarves but actually don’t wear them that much, has managed to befriend a few different robins in the street

fairy lights- usually pretty upbeat and positive, they kind of radiate good energy which means they have a lot of friends, is pretty famous in the friend group for making jewellery and headbands out of christmas lights (they’re pretty good to be fair), tries to keep their hair back no matter how long or short it is, definitely has a collection of tiny lightbulbs to see if they can make something out of them, has also definitely challenged people to snow-angel competitions

pine trees- quite obvious, but they smell of pine, trips to the library are very common (the mystery section specifically), knitted jumpers and jeans are the most common clothes in their wardrobe but don’t have a set colour theme, very sarcastic but lowkey: ‘what do you mean?’ ‘i mean no, want me to say it in another language? no’, very entertaining when someone annoys them

ice- not as sharp as most people would assume, also not as sarcastic as the pines but still sarcastic, mostly only to people that are rude to them or a friend, blue eyeshadow and small fake crystals, usually wears mostly white with light blue jeans or sweatpants, not sure why but they absolutely adore cinnamon rolls and would live off of them if they could, collects moonstones and glass figures

baubles- such a daydreamer but somehow always manages to hear everything, they have a love of anything and everything glittery, smarter than they’re given credit for and get pretty good grades considering their short attention span, definitely has pastel pink/purple hair, wears so many shiny bracelets, very good to go to when you think someone’s been shit-talking since they hear everything

candycane- the most out there compared to the others, never afraid to speak their mind even if it pisses people off, wears a white leather jacket with every outfit, got their tongue pierced for a dare but now absolutely adores it, really wants a pet hedgehog for some reason, knows how to metal scream and uses it as a party trick, wears only red and white makeup and refuses to let others do it in a different colour for them, will happily tinsel the whole inside of a house to play a prank on someone

holly- quiet but very friendly, absolutely wild hair with dyed-in red streaks, freaks people out but not on purpose, like they’ll be listening to something, someone will ask what it is and they’ll just go ‘oh, it’s a documentary on serial killers’, they have an almost alarming amount of medical knowledge and can spout off weird facts about certain injuries, they have quite a calming voice and pretty much everyone feels comfortable around them, carries a backpack covered in badges and keyrings, as are their hoodies
