The Rafale M fighter jets embarked on the carrier Charles de Gaulle recently made their longest force projection flying 4,000km from the Indian Ocean to Singapore under the banner of RASTABAN Manoeuvre 2023. H225M Medium-Lift Helicopter out and about in the evening. Since the start of their delivery in the first half of 2021, the H225Ms have progressively replaced the Super Pumas/Cougars. They are now pretty much the workhorse for heli ops with Full Operational Capability close to being achieved. February 7th, 1998. Greyhound on the loose in the morning sun! Glad to have caught the veritable C-2A(R) Greyhound, Carrier Onboard Delivery (COD) aircraft on its last cruise with the carrier USS Nimitz before retirement at the end of this year. For close to 40 years, these Greyhounds from VRC-30, the Providers, have rendered sterling service as the crucial transport and logistics platform in support of carrier operations. They are a welcome sight out at sea for many a sailor. Just like the bright sun rays that burst forth with the winged-horse that provides help and relief in the time of need that’s depicted on their squadron patch - Providers surely. Another moose (C17) I caught with a tagline at the nose - “Go for Broke”. A great motivational tagline to adopt for the new year. 👍👍💪💪 This C17 from the Hawaii Air National Guard is one of a number of C17s with commemorative nose taglines. “Go for broke” was the motto for the 442nd Regimental Combat Team in WW2 which was composed of almost entirely 2nd generation American soldiers of Japanese ancestry. Most of these Japanese-American soldiers were from Hawaii. They served with distinction in WW2 becoming the most decorated combat unit in US military history. Considering the discrimination their family members faced being interned in concentration camps in the US during that time, these soldiers went all out to prove their loyalty, bravery and fighting qualities. Christmas post inspired by a true blue sourdough. I understand old, grizzled Alaskans are known as “Sourdoughs” in homage to the prospectors, miners, and trappers that explored Alaska. In their journey, these frontiersmen often carried with them sourdough as the legend goes. Glad to have caught this special themed wolf-tailed 🐺 Alaskan moose (C17 Globemaster III) that is dedicated to the ‘Spirit of the Sourdoughs’. 💪💪🇺🇸🇺🇸🍞🍞 Completes the pairing with my die-cast model of a sister aircraft (00-0185) from the same squadron (3rd picture in post). This northern visitor hails from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska, primarily in support of US Pacific Forces. Under the associate unit organisational structure, it is a shared asset between the Alaska Air National Guard and active USAF 144th/517th Airlift Squadrons, 3rd/176th Air Mobility Wings. Wolf pack and firebirds unite. The 2nd picture shows my collection of patches for both units in which this moose is associated with.
