I didn't know how much I needed someone telling me today that they like my art style until they did it...

I seriously almost cried because I sometimes still feel like my art is too stiff, too boring, overall just... not even "not good enough", but just "not enough"?

You know how I barely ever do backgrounds, how my characters don't wear very interesting clothes, how the poses aren't really dynamic and such things...

It's not that I really mind, you know? I draw because I have fun and because noone else wants to draw the stuff I want to see, it doesn't really matter to me if my pictures aren't that interesting, be it visually or contentually. It is what I want to see, so it makes me happy.

But somehow knowing that I'm among someone's favourite artists really made me happy today.

Even though I obviously know you shouldn't rely on appreciation from other people, but we all know our human monkey brains don't work like that and it's ok.

Gf said the other day that I barely draw any nsfw/smutty stuff and... yeah, true. It's hard to draw, at least for me, you have people being very close with each other, which is already hard to draw when they're dressed, but when they're not you also have to have a certain understanding of anatomy, which I just lack, unless I have references to use (and looking up nsfw references is awkward at best, and outright traumatising at worst throwback to that time when I had actual porn in the search results).

But even if I were the best of the best... why bother? It's not like I can really share it anywhere?

Tumblr doesn't allow it.

Instagram doesn't allow it.

Twitter still has that feature, but who knows how long?

I can submit it on Pixiv (Japanese) or Animexx (German), but who will see it there?

So... uh. Let me preface this with "I'm sorry" and "I swear, I love Koumei" and also "Well, I didn't think of it, I just drew the scene!!"

Then let me go on with: this is based on a scene from Athena's fic The Evil Of Empty Words. Please go read it first because not only is it a really good fic (it's a case fic and I swear, the solution is as Aoyama-esque as it can be!), but the picture is a mega spoiler, so don't ruin this moment for you!

Full pic is under cut because, duh, spoilers, but also because it's quite a graphic depiction of strangulation and suicide... ish. Please just read the story.

Thanks to Clip Studio Paint for perspective rulers and 3D models of people and rooms, I would not have been able to pull that off without crafting my own reference picture of perspective and poses 🥲

Also, big thanks to my gf for printing this out for me, as I cannot for the love of me colour digitally, and this would've ended in eternal WIP limbo.

Last WIP.

The lighting isn't half as dramatic as I'd like it to be, but ... no but. Will have to do.

Tomorrow I'll give it colour and then we will see how it will look overall when finished.

Next step will be printing and then colouring traditionally because if I'd do it digitally, I'd never finish it ...

It will be quite the challenge though...

Trying to do some monochrome shading first to establish some contrast... i want this to look dramatic, but I'm not sure if I'll pull it off 🥲

This doesn't look too bad, but Koumei's part of the picture is a lot darker and i feel like the contrasts are not showing as much as I like to T_T will probably have to do quite some editing after scanning after all...

He sighed and just when he wanted to enter, there was a familiar voice calling out to him. "Zero!" He turned around and smiled when he saw Hiromitsu. "Hiro! You made it after all?" "Hey, when even you told me you'd make it, I had to make room!" "Heh. I'm glad." They shared a tight hug, before Rei looked back at the building. "Let's go in? To see who else is there." "Sure!"
