The Crypto Fear and Greed Index tumbled down all the way to 8 just some days back. 😨 This index measures investors’ sentiment in the cryptocurrency market. It rates investors’ sentiment between 0 to 100. A value of 0 represents the highest degree of fear whereas a value of 100 represents the highest degree of greed. The value of 8 means extreme fear. This is not a usual scene in the crypto space. In the entire history of the crypto market, the fear and greed index has touched 8 only 4 times including this one. The first time was in February 2018 when BTC bottomed at $6000, the second time in August 2019 when BTC bottomed at $9,320, and the third in March 2020 when BTC bottomed at $3,782. If you go by history, you may predict BTC has bottomed at $26,700. But history isn’t always right is it? Economists have expressed concerns over fears of inflation ever since the Federal Reserve started printing money to increase money supply and stimulate the economy as a response to the threats posed by the global pandemic COVID-19. But Crypto investors started reacting to Fed’s actions only after Bitcoin failed to surpass its November 10 ATH of $69,000. After December 4’s unexpected crash in the crypto market, the narrative quickly changed to Inflation as crypto analysts around the world scurried to find patterns with Fed’s printing, inflation and price action in the crypto market. Since then, the infamous Inflation FUD has dominated the crypto market. During this time, we have closely watched the CPI data that gets released every month. From 7% to 7.5% to now 8.5%, inflation has been escalating and so has the fear among crypto investors. Will the crypto market take another dump? 📉 Are we doomed? 👻 These questions have haunted crypto investors. 😟 But, if you ask me, my personal opinion is that this inflation has already been priced in. 💯 The market should not drop further below this level as of now. As soon as the FOMC meeting ended, and the Fed announced an interest rate hike of 0.25% or 25 basis points, the crypto market reacted positively. This interest rate hike was the first interest rate hike since 2018. Contrary to many people’s prediction, the crypto market did not dip after the Fed meeting because 25 basis points increase had already factored in. If the Fed had raised interest rate hike by 50% or 50 basis points, then the crypto market would have surely dipped. But since the Fed’s announcement was as per general expectations, the crypto market rallied. Bitcoin jumped back above $40K to reach $42.4K. The total daily volume in all exchanges has increased too. Will Bitcoin continue rallying? Or will we start seeing a bearish momentum after the weekend is over. Technical analysis suggest that $42.6K is an important milestone for Bitcoin. If Bitcoin crosses $42.6K during the weekend, we should see Bitcoin and the entire crypto market rally next week too. There’s been a lot of noise in the crypto market lately. 🔊 Everyone’s been talking of the sudden surge in the number of Bitcoin addresses with a balance of more than 1000 BTC. 💰 This news alone was enough to pump Bitcoin’s price and subsequently the entire Crypto market. 🚀 Bitcoin briefly surpassed the $45K resistance. This led to retail crypto investors running back to buy their favourite coins. But was this pump worthwhile? Why are we seeing the price dump today? For starters, let me reveal that the spike in those Bitcoin addresses was not due to Russian oligarchs buying heaps of Bitcoin, but rather due to custodians moving Bitcoin around.
