Remember when Ross made a pros/cons list about why he shouldn’t date Rachel and put a bunch of horrible stuff on it, meanwhile Joey did the same thing in a later season and couldn’t find anything to put on the cons list except that she made him switch to light mayo??? I absolutely love the fact you’re a Rachel and Joey fan!!! What scene really made you appreciate the relationship and what set it above Ross and Rachel?

I don’t think there was one scene but it absolutely started when she moved in with him, before he even started to have feelings for her, and definitely after he put that to bed and before she started to reciprocate.

They had so much fun together, he was always there for her, they understood each other, had the same sense of humor — it could have been epic.

The One Where Rachel Should Have Ended Up With Joey™

i got so emotional everytime i see the scene where joey talks about how he felt when he was in love with rachel. that whole speech just gets me. you can tell how much joey loved her and that his feelings were sincere from the very beginning and that rachel starts to feel something too. it's just so beautiful and the chemistry between the two of them is so damn good.

Since you're reblogging a lot of anti-ross stuff(fuck that guy) how did you feel about the Joey/Rachel plot? I liked it i thought it was sweet.

I actually loved the idea of Joey/Rachel. I didn't really like how the writers executed it (Because you could tell they thought Ross/Rachel was endgame, so they didn't even bother giving Joey/Rachel a real chance) but I really think it had potential, and could have even been endgame! When the Rachel/Joey plot started, it genuinely renewed my waning interest in the show the first time I watched it. I thought it would be a great way to expand Joey's character and help him mature and grow. I thought that he was just the sweetest, most considerate guy (despite how he'd been portrayed in the past) and I think he could have been a great step-father to Emma.

On the other hand, I thought that Rachel would be able to relax and let go a little bit. Joey brought out her fun and goofy side, something she couldn't really do with Ross because he was so damn judgemental and rude. While allowing herself to have fun, Rachel also would never have given up the job in Paris if she had been with Joey. He would have supported her the entire way, and probably would have been willing to move with her. After all, acting gigs happen all over the world, but your girlfriend's dream job? That's a once in a lifetime shot, and he never would have asked her to give that up.

The episode that sold it for me was the one where Joey and Rachel trade books (The Shining and Little Women) and have a whole episode about sharing their thoughts and interests with each other (something we never see Rachel and Ross doing). The scene that genuinely stole my heart was when Rachel was watching Cujo alone, and Joey comes home just in time to wrap his arms around her and comfort her. You can just see in his eyes that "Oh, I'm so fucked. I'm in love with this woman" realization.

I think Joey and Rachel being unable to have sex was just the most ridiculous, half-assed cop-out of their relationship. My theory about it is that the writers had pushed the idea of Ross/Rachel being endgame that the viewers during the running of the show couldn't even conceive the idea of Rachel ending up with someone else, so the writers backed down due to the backlash-- even though the Joey/Rachel relationship was WAY more healthy, fun to watch, and relatable.

I can't believe the showrunners for Friends wrote Rachel and Joey believably falling for each other as friends and roommates, caringly developed the healthiest, most positive relationship either of them had been in over the course of nine seasons, and chucked it all aside to give Ross his undeserved happy ending
