So, you think c!Wilbur has experienced no consequences. Let me debunk that.
A common c!Wilbur critique point is that "he experienced no consequences for his actions, and should therefore be punished if he is resurrected". This point relies on the idea that death is freeing to him, and as a result, he managed to escape without ever having to suffer for his crimes.
For once, I'm going to put the terrible point about suicide being an escape from consequences aside (not that it doesn't debunk the critique point quite well anyway), and cover some actual reasons why this claim is actually pretty inaccurate.
This post is under a read-more, for your convenience.
Main Point: Be Honest, The Void Is Inhumane
After dying, Wilbur was sent to the afterlife. The afterlife is an expansive void, with absolutely nothing inside it. To be in it is, supposedly, like constantly being torn apart on a fundamental level, and put back together again. There are no senses, no colours, no nothing - at most, you'll be able to summon a semblance of the feeling of the concept of an item.
To put it shortly - this is forced sensory deprivation.
Okay. Alright, sensory deprivation is a therapy, right? How is this so bad? Wilbur seemed to be pretty chipper, didn't he?
Nope. This isn't just "sensory deprivation". This is FORCED sensory deprivation. Did you know that extensive forced sensory deprivation can result in, and I quote, "extreme anxiety, hallucinations, bizarre thoughts, temporary senselessness, and depression"? In extreme cases, it might be comparable to torture. It literally has been used in the real world as torture before.
Also, did you know that even fifteen minutes spent in a similar situation will trigger psychosis-like symptoms in even a mentally healthy person?
Well, Wilbur's spent thirteen and a half years there, so far. Non-stop. And he wasn't exactly mentally healthy when he was going in. Not to mention that we know his mental health has declined since headed in, because he holds all of his prior, self-deprecating beliefs, and reportedly talks about unsettling topics.
(Now do you see why it's actually not surprising in the slightest that Wilbur hasn't gotten any better in the Void? Get the dude some goddamn therapy.)
Forced sensory deprivation is an inhumane condition. If you're willing to believe that Dream was being negatively affected by the Prison despite holding up a brave face (which he was), hold the same energy for the guy who notoriously hid his crippling depression during his Presidency, okay?
The "he asked for it" defense does not apply to the void, by the way. Wilbur asked for death, not for an infinitely persistent consciousness.
Extra Point: Literally Everything Else
I may as well bring it up in brief on this post. Wilbur hasn't done a single thing on this server that hasn't resulted in a consequence.
He tried to set up a business? Sure, it was a little bit scammy, but he ended up being shot for making fun of a policeman, and his friends ended up detained without trial. (They never even got to the potion brewing bit, and that's what the police kept citing to him as the law break.)
He tried to make a nation? Someone declared war on him, skipping every negotiation step. Clearly the land didn't matter, because it got blown up in front of him. He was killed, and his family hurt for him.
Okay. He tried to instill elections? He won the popular vote? Someone's played the system and declared themself emperor. Oh, and he's exiled now.
Everything Wilbur has done has been in response to consequences. That's a point a lot of people bring up against him, but... why? Why against him? He's experienced consequences, tried to continue despite them, and gone on to just face more consequences.
And as much as you can try to argue something like "the exile was justifiable", it wasn't. Schlatt had no proof that they'd actually rise against him yet. Wilbur was actually conceding. Even if they "might" have risen against him, there was no evidence to prove that yet, so the exile was completely tyrannical.
Conclusion: Wilbur has experienced consequences, and I'm not sure where the idea that he hasn't has come from.
