I have no explanation for myself, I just wanted an edgy Jiayi, but I also obviously couldn't leave Adrien out! I'm not miraculous' writers team

Jiayi has now fully embraces the burn-out and lives at peace with it whilst abandoning her fashionista dreams, while Adrien is just... rebellious in a different way

I lowkey love Jiayi's design tho, I might reuse it for a different oc in the future

I’m confused- I remember reading a post that said the canon kinda killed your desire for a full comic series of this, so are we just getting snippets of what might’ve been?

Okay uhhh this one is complicated for me to explain. I hope It doesn't get TOO confusing lol

See, I'm no comic artist and I'm self aware enough to know that I am not yet at the level where I can consistently pump out full chapters in the format I want and the quality I want.

Right now I'm settling for snippets - like the Audience snippet with Chloe and Volpina or else The Bubbler comic. It in particular is very close to the format I'm hoping for: showcasing/highlighting (in my opinion) the biggest change in that episode If compared to the canon and If someone knows the original context and sees this one scene, maybe they can put something together about the rest of the chapter. Maybe not about the fight, but about the focus of the plot - Adrien's birthday. I want to do that for a few episodes, roughly showcase some key difference between canon and my au while I mentally prepare myself with more and more pages or experiments while I settle for a certain style I'd be comfortable to work with.

For bigger episodes, I will absolutely make longer ones (ex. Bubbler, Mr. Pigeon, Befana, Volpina). For shorter, maybe mini comics that highlight a crucial point in the episode.

Uh but to answer your question properly: I'm still working on Miracle and Plague. Just slower, at my own pace and while balancing my other projects and high school senior life while I'm at it haha

PS. canon did absolutely kill me from the inside but it only got rid of my burning spite. now Im genuinely interested in finishing the story my own way (probably why I havent been pumping out any big rants LMAO)

MNP ✦ First Box of Secrets has been posted!

But hey, what do you mean by "Box of Secrets"? Well, since I've noticed a bit of activity on the site, I thought that maybe It would be a good place to post more exclusive content. Among full timelapses and the common reposts from my main account, It's a perfect spot for Miracle and Plague items that I don't want to share on the public blog just yet.

Sooo what can you expect from the Box of Secrets? Concept art, some bonus doodles, perhaps spoilers perhaps WIPs and updates of the future comics,, stuff like that. There won't be much for the time being, but I'll do my absolute best to post at least one item a month. Most of it won't require a membership either!

It's really only for those who are VERY interested in behind the scenes and I don't expect anyone to do anything about it just yet, but It's nice to have a spot to drop all the cool things I'd have kept on my drive otherwise haha

Oh and I won't be sending out updates to this blog about new posts. Consider this a one-off post to shamelessly plug my kofi page :P

Started out as a doodle, ended up tweaking Monarch's design.

Instead of separating the vest and the sleeves, I merged them into one outer layer with loose sleeves and a long part at the very end with decorative buttons. The wing-like cape is now attached to his shoulders rather than the back of the vest to resemble the coat he wears in his civilain design. It can be a lot more threatening when he hovers over you with that large fucking cape man (learnt that from drawing a comparison of gabriel with and without a cape. it does SO MUCH)

Im ngl. my guy is kinda scary like that. If I was Chloe and face to face with him Id die imagine four eyes staring you down and peer pressuring you to agree to a ponzi scheme

MORE because I'm own to draw every villain from the first part until I get bored of it or become too busy to do so. Like in the previous post, I obviously gave them all a little tweak, because I CAN

LADY WIFI - I pretty much just changed the hairstyle and added the butterfly motif, because I didn't want to reshape the mask

REFLEKTA - Removed the stupid hat and resized the collar. Additonally, the eye on the top of her head is actually a part of the slightly changed powers. It's open when she's interacting with other people affected by the transformation.

HORRIFICATOR - Major tweak, or rather just changes to import it into my artstyle. The green feet were awful LMAO

COPYCAT - Instead of the usual 'just create a copy of chat noir', this guy is more of a chameleon and miraculer kind of deal? He can't fully replicate his appearance nor powers cue the sharper ears and lack of belt loops for the weapon.

I'll likely put off talking about the story/power differences for a different post or just. wait for when I can make a comic about them

I think that these guys are like. my favorites out of the entire series. Maybe It's the nostalgia, maybe It's because they're from the era when MLB was still good... idk

I'm really proud of the little redesigns tbh, I like to think I added a bit of cooler detail in comparison to the originals

STONEHEART: has a small, rock heart in the midsection of his torso, spikes on his head to imitate hair + additional spikes as he grows in power

STORMY WEATHER: swirly skirt that is literally a storm, more princessy sleeves and gloves

MR. PIGEON: removed the stupid swimming cap, added shadybug-like mask and a lot of splitting patterns, wings at the sides of the shoes because pign.

THE BUBBLER: Probably my least favorite canonicaly, changed a LOT

Also what prompted me to do them was working on another comic from the Mr. Pigeon chapter SO YEAH MAYBE THAT WILL APPEAR PRETTY SOON

As for the visual, I like to think It's a more personal subconscious mix between their wants and needs (needs obviously set by the Wonder rather than the person). Jiayi doesn't want to be ladybug, yet she's put in an efficient hero costume of a design fitting her style. Adrien bases his understanding of a hero from the character in the book he took the name from, so his attire would resemble a more silly approach to his role (like the bell or the vest with solid parts on the shoulders.) Another example is Alya. She WANTS to be a hero but is also aware that the Wonder will give her something related to a fox, leading to her having many fur-like elements like the shoulder patches and asymmetrical patterns on arms and legs. Last example: Chloe. A flashy bee that you cannot miss. She could've had something smaller on her back, something more practical that didn't get in the way and yet she "gave herself" traslucent wings that give off the impression of glowing when put against the sun.

I like to think that they can change their forms as they grow mentally or grow used to the role of a hero. All because I was planning to give Chat Noir a secondary form when he starts becoming more independent and a more vocal about his issues with his father. (I just really love redesigns with Chat having a hoodie man.)

I saw that you mentioned jiayi and Lila knowing each other's secrets, and got confused, does Lila know that she is ladybug?

She doesn't know about Jiayi being Wonderbug. I could've explained it a bit more clearer tbh

The thing about these two is that due to their time spent together, they created a bond that allows them to recognize certain patterns or know about things that they wouldn't tell someone otherwise. Lila uses it to her advantage later on, testing whether Jiayi changed her habits from years back. Hope that makes it more clear?

Part two, time to talk about how the Wonders affect the users themselves!

Unlike the canon, I actually wanted to make Wonders more magical and something that you could look at and think "Wow, that's some actual magic properties". Let's be honest, canon miraculouses are bland as FUCK. There is no flavor to them and the most magical thing about them is the bug like creatures that power your jewelry.

In Lady Wifi, we find out that the masks are forever stuck to a person's face as long as they're transformed. Nothing wrong with that, but I think I can add a bit more spice to that.

First, costumes are interactable. By that I mean the hero can totally take off the capette, change into their civillian clothes and walk around in the crowd. What you'll do with the anthennas, eyes and the tail is a different conversation, but It's totally possible.

Leading on, all the features that come with the transformations like wings, cat ears, tails, additional eyes stay all the way until the user detransforms.

Of course, It'd be too easy to recognize the heroes If they just took off the mask, wouldn't it? Because of that, the Wonder creates something of a non-physical mask around their face that makes them hard, nearly impossible to recognize. Their skin color, face features, race, hair color and other details are extremely hard to define

Additionally, photos of them make their face fully blocked. The entire face (with exception of eyes, mask and only certain features) is automatically blocked with light and there's no way to bypass this thing unless the person is only half-transformed. Alya's blog is pretty much photos of them without their face, because there's no way to compare closeups to anything, but It's not a bad thing! As It's difficult to define someone's charateristics, the people selling merc of them or doing motivational posters can indeed use the phase "ANYONE CAN BE THE HERO"

Moving on, the transformation will bring the user with a few other side effects: most notably, hair color. With the first transformation, the Wonder will create a colorful fade, color itself depending on the artifact. For example: Jiayi has red fade, Adrien has dark brown/black color from below, Alya's color change isn't all that visible due to her already having dyed orange hair and Gabriel's light purple is often mistaken for silver hair. Master Fu hasn't transformed in a very long time, which is why his green fade is not there. On the other hand, in one of my previous posts I posted Alix's hero design where instead of a fade, she has white-blue stripes in her hair. It's due to Zodiac Wonder having a slightly alternated effect.

There are certain attributes that the users get when transformed

Insect-type users are much lighter and often have something resembling wings on their backs which allow them to fall slower and/or stay in the air for longer than others

Feline-type users have better agility, hearing and environmental awareness, supported by their tails

Additionally, Feline users often lack irises, with their eye color filling up the sclera

Exotic-type users are the most varying and don't share a similarity.

Turtle user's skin is harder and less likely to be bruised or cut

Ladybug user doesn't have irises or pupils visible. It doesn't affect the person's vision

Gabriel has two sets of eyes to make up for lack of glasses

Zodiac Wonders are much more "magical" or surreal. Visible example of this is Rabbit's curled up ears that translate directly to the user upon transformation

Miracle & Plague 05: The Bubbler

Some actual MnP content ASIDE for rambles??? Well yes it is!

A while ago I figured I probably wouldn't be able to make a full rewriting of the series AND illustrate it all and keep going with it for what I assume would be months or years like the Scarlet Lady AU does. Not because I wouldn't be able to, but I think I'm just really burnt out by spite for this series and too worn out to do Thomas' homework. Also I have other projects I'm more invested in on a personal/emotional level.

However, I really REALLY want to show the bits and pieces I already have, because I put too much effort and time into it (plus I really like how it turned out I don't want to throw it in the trash). So I decided that once a blue moon I'll make a comic based on some part of the story that will focus more on the relationships that would've been developed in the chapter rather than the action itself.

Case and point: The Bubbler. One of the bigger early developments of Gab-Adrien relationship, or rather a showcase of it. Sitting at the 5th position of the chapters I posted a while ago, It also shows Adrien getting to find more friends than just Chloe - specifically Nino. A funky guy, total opposite to Adrien yet they get along just fine. While Adrien is getting new friends, Gabriel is still not fully accepting of his son going to a public school and is distrustful of his peers, leading to him denying the idea of a party. However, with him too busy in the morning to join Adrien for the breakfast as he would usually do, he reflects and realizes that he denied his son the one tradition they've kept for years after Emily's passing.

Also the cover is rough, It was honestly more of a test based off Thomas' old concept art on miraculous comic covers. Same with the new logo :>

My memory is terrible so I don't remember if I just sent you this ask or not lmao, but do the episodes you didn't put in any color have any reason to being removed? You just didn't like them, or thought they were filler, something like this? Also, did you reorganize the timeline from more later episodes?

Yeah, pretty much. I could've marked them something special, sure, but I only marked most of the episodes I remember and Im not about to watch it all over again just for the sake of doing so accurately.

The ones that are left unmarked are just. Mediocre. Maybe filler (Prime Queen, Animan), maybe episode based solely on Marinette's obsession (too many to count), maybe doesn't fit with mnp narrative anymore (The Puppeteer), maybe it sucked ass (entirety of season 5) and I don't want to be the one to fix that mess (Chat Blanc). That's all.

So does that mean no romantic relationships for the main characters whatsoever, or just not with each other?

Tbh I just don't want to focus on too many side stories with falling in love. Like yeah they're teens, but the main story focuses on keeping Paris safe rather than being lovey dovey, at least in regards to Miracle and Plague

Though that being said, Alya and Nino are together. and there's a plotline with Chat being romantically interested in Wonderbug for the duration of season 1 so yuh
