David Tennant and horses
(with apologies to David for including that Casanova outtake at the end)
Excerpts from the DVD commentary for The End of Time Part 1:
David Tennant: I’m a bit allergic to horses.
Catherine Tate: Oh are you?
DT: So it wasn’t the best for me.
CT: Sneezing?
DT: Little bit sneezy.
CT: Allergic to horses?
DT:  A little bit, yeah, a little bit.  I’m not that bad.  I can take a couple of pills and get through the day.
Euros Lyn: We’ve seen you on the back of a horse
CT: But I’ve bought you a pony for Christmas
DT:  Oh, that’s nice [laughing]
CT: Now it’s gonna have to go back!  Poor little pony.

Behind the Scenes of The Star Beast - Part Four
Excerpt from Digital Spy's interview with Ruth Madeley:
This past weekend saw the return of Doctor Who, with the first of its 60th anniversary specials 'The Star Beast'. In the episode, we were introduced to UNIT Scientific Advisor Number 56, Shirley Anne Bingham. Like Ruth Madeley, Shirley is a disabled woman who uses a wheelchair, however, as Ruth told Digital Spy in our exclusive interview: "Her being in a wheelchair is the least interesting thing about her – and that's what you want." Shirley is straight-talking, no-nonsense and not afraid to put the doctor in his place. "She knows exactly who she is, she's ballsy, she's northern and she's not frightened to take the lead. And I think she's a great addition to the whoniverse," Ruth said. She also laughed here, at her use of the word "whoniverse", and explained that she wasn't a huge fan before appearing on the show, despite "having a great respect" for it. However, this didn't stop her from being in awe of David Tennant and Catherine Tate, who she said, it was incredible to watch working. "I love that Shirley isn't a gusher when she meets The Doctor because I'm so not like that," she laughed. "I found myself sat next to David at the read through, and realised I was just staring at him. I'm really uncool!" Very early on in 'The Star Beast', a fellow UNIT officer started to act awkwardly when he realised that Shirley can't get up the stairs to access the rocket, to which she cut him down with: "Don't make me the problem." It's a sentiment many disabled people have felt in an inaccessible world, and Ruth points out that "it was so important to show that the problem isn't us, it's actually all the stuff around us". "I'm having 'Don't make me the problem' put on t-shirts," she joked.
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who posted set photos!
I’ll post additional parts in the coming months with the  #whoBtsBeast tag. The full episode list is [ here ]

David Tennant and Mark Gatiss - a photoset
These two met and bonded over their mutual love for Doctor Who, and they worked together numerous times down through the years before finally working together on the show that had cemented their friendship (both on “The Idiot’s Lantern”, an episode Mark wrote, and on “The Lazarus Experiment”, an episode that Mark guest-starred in).  Mark was one of the first people David told after getting the role of the Tenth Doctor.
I love fanboy friends.
Mark Gatiss from the Quatermass Documentary: At the end of rehearsal, we had mics in our hair and he (David) said, “We have to get de-mic'ed, I’ve got to tell you something."  I thought something had gone terribly wrong with the production… and he said, "Chris isn’t coming back to Doctor Who next year."  I said, "Oh God! Really?"  He said, "Yeah, and they’ve asked me,” and it was like, “Oh my God!"  As long as we’ve known each other we’ve talked about how we’d play the Doctor.  It’s our dream come true, so it was extremely sweet. I think he was quite nervous about telling me somehow, as if I’d actually try to kill him and take his TARDIS off him.
Trivia: Mark wrote a part for his friend David in the episode "The Unquiet Dead”, but Russell T. Davies, who was working with David on Casanova and who already had David in mind for the Tenth Doctor, talked Mark into making the mortician character an older man so the part would no longer be appropriate for David – mainly because RTD didn’t want to use David in a small part if he was later going to be the Doctor.
2024 Update: Adding some more photos to this set (originally posted 10 years ago), because I’m always happy to see a long-term friendship thriving:

Behind the Scenes of Angel!Crowley and Aziraphale
From VFX Voice interview with Visual Effects Supervisor Matias Derkacz:
One of the main assets of the show, which played a role in the Before the Beginning sequence was Aziraphale’s and Crowley’s wings, which had to be recreated for Season 2. “The wings were created for Season 1, but we redid them as they needed more complex behavior,” Derkacz explains. “The wings were animated to follow Crowley’s and Aziraphale’s body movements to enhance their emotions. So, there was a bit more animation work involved with this. It was more complex the way that feathers behaved since we had to have proper feather interactions. That was the biggest sequence for sure in terms of volume and complexity. It was a fun and challenging sequence.”

Behind the Scenes of Wild Blue Yonder - Part Four
Excerpt from Benjamin Cook’s article on Bernard Cribbins in DWM #598
Gareth announces that David and Catherine are on the travelator next. They take their positions. David runs on the spot and stretches his legs to warm up. Then he runs – fast – and propels himself off the runway. “I could always do the sprint,” he says, catching his breath. “Can’t do long distance. I peak too soon. It probably shows my impatience. I can just about manage the 200m, but anything beyond that… I’m probably slower than I was 12 years ago.” That’s disputable. The crane, which is carrying the camera, was too slow for David in the practice run just now. Either the crane has got to speed up or David has got to slow down. “How come Tom gets a techno crane?” Rachel Talalay – director of Special 1: The Star Beast – has popped in to see what’s going on and she’s impressed. “I’ve not seen this before. It looks amazing!” “Sometimes I’m a busy man,” says Tom [ Kingsley, director of Special 2: Wild Blue Yonder ], “sometimes I’m just a man waiting for a big crane.”
