Milly had really been hoping that Luke would’ve been able to get through to Mr. Rech. Somehow she just had this suspicion that he would have ‘ways’ of getting to others. So to read that it still didn’t work had the lawyer frowning. This just wasn’t making any sense.

[text – Luke Feroleto]: I gave Mr. Mallory a call but it went to voicemail. I left a message and I’ll try again after some time.
Still biting at her nail her fingers hesitated at the keyboard. Something didn’t feel right with these sudden drops in client interest. She was sure Luke felt that, too. It was a problem and Milly aimed to solve it.
[text – Luke Feroleto]: I’ll do some in person visits. Try to get a better read on what the situations are with these people.
Mr Mallory always picked up his phone, Luke had joked in the past that it was as if the man was surgically attached to his phone. If he wasn’t answering his phone now, then chances were he would refuse a deal as well.
[text - Milly] Face to face does often work better.
[text - Milly] I’ll put out a few more feelers. Maybe others will know what’s going on, even if they’re not involved themselves.
A few days later and Luke had his answer, it just wasn’t one he liked.
[text - Milly] There’s a new company in town. It would seem we’re in competition for the same business partners and they’re currently winning.
They were winning because they were threatening everyone who even considered working with the Feroleto’s, but that was less than legal and so not something he wanted to share.

“Hmm,” the hum was non-commital with an air of ‘we’ll see about that,’ of course Wol would still keep an eye on his bro. Not that it would be easy when he was off taking part in competitions. “We should probably head back to the party, everyone’s probably wondering where you are.”
Zara snorted. “Oh because I’ve never heard that one before.”
Edward was going to do his best to keep Wol-Ryung as far from all of this as he could. “Let’s go,” he agreed. “Before people start asking more questions.”

“I have to agree with the grumpy old man, Ava,” Ashwin said as he waited for her to leave before him. “At best you might end up in an asylum.” He didn’t know anyone who ended up like that, but there were plenty of rumours.”
Ava rolled her eyes as she left the office, locking the door behind them all. “I’ll only end up in an asylum if I go blabbing to people about what I saw and I am not that stupid. I can keep my mouth shut, Ash. Now let’s get a move on, it’s cold out.”

Clearly everyone you’ve ever dated is an idiot for letting you go.” Now had he let her go? Debatable. They’d tried their best to make it work, but some things just weren’t meant to be. “C’mon, how many hearts have you broken since the last time we saw each other?”
Izzabella chuckled. “The bills never do get easier. At least this way you don’t have a large mortgage to still pay off.”
“A lot of the volunteers like to work at that one, all the people who can’t take an animal home for whatever reason but want the chance to form a proper bond with them.” “ Oh,you are talking nonsense, Max,” she laughed at his next comment. “I dunno, a couple maybe. Had my own broken a couple of times in return, of course, but c’est la vie. What can I say, I’m fussy.”

He leant forward as Amelia pulled the file out, fingers itching to take it from her grasp. Alec still didn’t fully trust why a witch would be helping out anyway, as far as he was aware the Fae had things under control. He was curious about why she was helping when she really didn’t need to. Even before the truce was officially finalised. His own loyalty would always be with the Fae as he had seen with so many other species over the years, so this was unusual to say the least. Alec was convinced there might be some kind of catch.
Amelia’s list was surprisingly accurate, and he skimmed through the names, it was only when he came to the last two that his brow creased. “Not him,” Alec tapped the name, “but this one,” even as he ran his fingertip along the name it prickled. Magic but from a different branch of the family. “Possibly.” Possibly a future Selkie, and technically not his problem; they looked after their own. However if he wanted a favour from them it wouldn’t hurt to take a look and let them know. “Mind if I tag along?” Alec could easily find out where the child lived himself, but he didn’t have a reason to come into contact with them.
Amelia had started doing this job long before the Truce with the Fae had been declared, and so she had been the logical choice to work with the Fae afterwards. Not that she had to like it, she just had to learn to deal with them. Not that they were the easiest to work with. They couldn’t understand why a witch would care about children that were nothing to do with her. To Amelia, that said more about the Fae than it did about her.
Her instinct was to refuse Alec’s request, but she was always being told by both her human and witch supervisors that she should learn to work with others and so she relunctantly agreed. “Okay,” she nodded. “That’s the family I’m visiting next, actually. I’ll tell them you’re a trainee; they do on occasion come with us to gain experience. That means you keep your mouth shut, these families have no idea what their children are.”
