OVERWATCH OC — CIRCE

Here’s my Overwatch oc! Her name’s Circe, real name Amira Salem. She’s a support that would definitely be nerfed into the ground upon release if she was ever a real thing and she uses fire to heal and enable allies and attack enemies. The names of her abilities may change if I don’t like them. :p

After being tortured and experimented on for years by Talon, Circe lives her life as a nomad, dedicating herself to healing the suffering and preventing those at risk of enduring the same fate she has.

Early Life:

Amira had a lot of expectations to live up to, and she was happy with that. Her mother and father taught her many crafts such as combat, engineering and first aid, in the hopes she would become the best version of herself possible. Amira worked hard to become extremely talented at these crafts and make her parents proud of her. However she struggled socially due to being autistic and, despite her parents attempts, found it hard to suppress her “less acceptable traits”. Besides this, Amira continued to strive to become the perfect example of ambition and stand by her parents values of resilience, empathy and fortitude and was ultimately excited for a future of success and security.

Future Stripped:

In the short span of a day, Amira’s world was turned upside down. Her village was invaded by Talon forces who laid waste to her home and she, and many other young people, were orphaned and captured to be used as test subjects at Oasis. The goal of these tests was to create a generation of Talon soldiers commissioned by Doomfist with unique abilities that were more effective in both combat and aid. For seven years Amira was tortured and experimented on, the leading scientist behind these tests being Moria O’Deorain. Her body was used in a variety of tests, most notably one that increased her body heat and bio-electricity levels, causing her to expel fire from her hands and regenerate at a faster rate. These flames had the ability to both heal and to hurt. She had a number of cybernetic augmentations and nodes implanted into her in an attempt to stabilise her new condition, as well as vents implanted into her upper arms and slits down her arms and fingers. (Talon wanted to turn her into the best version of herself in their own regard, mirroring her original future that was stripped from her). The augments were difficult to control and she had to be trained to hone both the harmful and healing aspects of her abilities. Amira was also punished and disciplined regularly for speaking out and for her general defiance against Talon while in captivity, believing that if she wasn’t dead she wasn’t broken. Her cell was visited by some Talon agents and their allies, some mocking her and her state and some showing unexpected remorse. Eventually, she escaped and ran from the laboratory.

Forging a Path:

After eventually escaping from Oasis, Amira was riddled with anger and despair. She trekked an austere and dangerous journey from Oasis back to her village. It had been completely rebuilt from the ground up but, remembering the absolute destruction that had taken place all those years ago, Amira knew she could not remain in what was, to her, essentially a completely new place, not at all the home she grew up in, without doing something about what had happened to it and her people in the past. With no other options Amira continued to train in an attempt to hone her powers and eventually became an elusive figure that travelled around towns and countries helping those in need, adopting the sobriquet “Circe” and working as a medic for hire. Refusing to let her past break her, Circe holds onto her parents values in order for them to live on through her. She avoids capture from Talon, while also intercepting and preventing them from completing their missions.

Overheating - How Circe’s Body Interacts with its New Function.

So, to put it extremely basically, because of the experiments Amira’s body temperature and bio electricity levels have been raised, allowing her to expel flames from her hands.

However, the constant discharging of fire for an extended period of time can cause Circe’s body to overheat. So when Circe overuses her heated flames, it can be fatal.

Circe has vents installed in her upper arms and back in order to prevent overheating for as long as possible but, if Circe were to become extremely aggressive with her attacks or if she’s in an environment with high atmospheric heat, she’d begin to feel exhausted and find it hard to breathe at first, then her limbs would become weak and then, if she’s been firing for too long/been in the environment for too long, she’d ultimately combust and explode.

Yeah. Sorry, kid. No one said it’d be a pretty sight.

In-game, Circe has a metre showcasing how much she is able to fire hostilely for. If the player fires aggressively for too long, they begin to take damage. Imagine a Pharah shooting herself constantly. While Circe isn’t shooting at herself, she’s overheating and thus damaging herself for as long she fires over the metre - the same amount of damage an enemy would take if hit directly by one of Circe’s flames. If the player fires while over the metre for too long, she dies. If the player chooses to stop firing after breaching the metre, they cannot fire until the metre has been completely drained once again.

This is a vague concept of what it’d look like in game, so forgive me for how messy it is. (Also please ignore how dainty her hands are in the first pic I gave up on drawing and just traced my own 😭)

Minor trivia about Overheating:

- Both in game and in lore, Circe can only overheat if she’s attacking since her healing fire is a low-temperature flame. Either slightly cold or warm.

- Overheating doesn’t actually cause Circe to sweat at all. She actually sweats very little. She has the vents to cool her off, and the sweat evaporates from the heat before it can breach the surface of her skin.

- In-game, I imagine Circe having an animation for cooling down after overheating. She shakes/flaps her hands in order to fan them off. She also has little voicelines for when she’s doing this!
