Lys’s Anime/Manga Recommendations Pt.4
For my first string of posts, I’d like to give some anime or manga recommendations! Each post will feature a different series, plus a little about them and why I recommend them. (Everyone has different opinions, and I reserve the right to my own, as well as encourage you to share yours!)
I hope you enjoy the fourth installment!
———————————————
(Note: As of today, January 26th 2021, to my knowledge, the anime is confirmed and is going to be handled by studio MAPPA. Since it’s not yet released, I will only be talking about the manga for now. Also, there is a confirmed Chainsaw Man sequel which was confirmed during  Jump Festa Online 2021. Its release date is still unknown.)
Chainsaw Man (2018)
Our protagonist Denji fights devils with his pet chainsaw dog named Pochita to pay off the debt left behind from his late father. No, you did not misread that last sentence. Denji yearns for a normal life; he wants a girlfriend, and to stop eating burgers out of the dumpster. One day, the yakuza his father owed make him leave in the middle of the night to fight some devils. Once Denji arrived at the location, it turned out to be an ambush, set up by the yakuza. They were to bring Denji to another devil, who was supposed to give them money. A fight ensues and Pochita merges with Denji. (The merge isn’t something I’m going to go into in detail.) Denji then gains Pochita’s chainsaw ability and kills the devil who was acquainted with the yakuza. Denji then gets recruited by Makima, who runs a branch of an organization meant to protect humans from devils.
Sorry, for the long synopsis, but I felt it was necessary. In regards to my thoughts on the series, I was surprised at how much I liked it.  Tatsuki Fujimoto’ art was detailed, but not overly busy; it conveyed the necessary information without seeming cluttered. I can’t express my love for the art style enough. The one thing I was not overly fond of, was the pacing near the end. Some parts seemed rushed, and other slow.
This manga made me laugh, and also made me despair. While the characters may not all be human, they all display human nature, and was unexpectedly realistic. I didn’t think I would fall in love with the characters, much less that this would become one of my favourite series, but here we are.
At the end of the day, read Chainsaw Man.

Lys’s Anime/Manga Recommendations Pt.3
For my first string of posts, I’d like to give some anime or manga recommendations! Each post will feature a different series, plus a little about them and why I recommend them. (Everyone has different opinions, and I reserve the right to my own, as well as encourage you to share yours!) I hope you enjoy the third installment! ——————————————— (Note: for this installment I’m going to be talking mostly about the manga, as I haven’t seen the anime yet.)
Yakusoku no Neverland/the Promised Neverland (2016)
Yakusoku no Neverland follows the story of your typical shounen protagonist with orange hair, (except this time, she’s a girl,) who lives in an ideal orphanage with plenty of siblings and a loving guardian. Until the inevitable twist reveals that the children who were getting sent off to foster families were actually being used for something more sinister…
That’s about all I can say about the plot without spoiling anything. When YnN was recommended to me, I was told it was imperative I didn’t have anyone spoil the plot for me. Honestly, while it’s best to experience it for yourself, I don’t see why you wouldn’t read it anyways. In my opinion, you will just be less shocked.
While there were some slow parts in YnN, I still really enjoyed it. The artist, Posuka Demizu, did an amazing job adapting Kaiu Shirai’s story. The emotions conveyed through imagery, as well as how perspective was used to enhance certain scenes was wonderful.
All in all, a great read.

Lys’s Anime/Manga Recommendations Pt.2

Yahari Ore no Seishun Rabukome wa Machigatteiru (2013)
Often abbreviated as OreGairu, the anime is centred around how our protagonist, Hikigaya Hachiman views youth, school, and life in general. He is rather cynical, which is the reason that one of his teachers forces him to join a club with a single member: Yukinoshita Yukino.  Throughout the series, the members of the club help other students as they deal with their internal conflicts.
The anime is based on a series of light novels written by Wataru Watari, which I am currently reading. I personally think the light novels and the anime are superior to the manga. The medium of a manga did not add to the effectiveness of the delivery of the story. In my opinion, the perspective of the protagonist isn’t as emphasized as it is in the anime, much less the light novel.

Carole and Tuesday (2019)
Carole and Tuesday is about Tuesday Simmons, who flees her home to pursue music. She meets Carole Stanley busking on a bridge, and they decide to form a band. Together they try to make it big in Alba city, on planet Mars.
Though the premise is fairly simple, the story becomes increasingly intricate. The thorough world-building, as well as character development, are a lot for one show. But, the complexities are handled beautifully and aren’t difficult to process.
The amazing animation paired with excellent music creates a unique mood that makes Carole and Tuesday definitely worth a try.
