It's been almost a year since I made this post and it's still gaining the occasional stray note here and it makes me want to continue it, but, there has been no continuation because as my roommate withdrew from college on winter break + isn't returning this upcoming school year so frankly I don't want these characters to go through this shit lmaooo

I can say that WWX and LWJ moved in together off campus though and they have pets<3

Hey what if I made a college AU based on my experiences in college as I go about my first year college life because I have ideas and they feature:

WWX + NHS as roommates, they've been best friends for at least 3 years and communicate 57% of the time through sexual sounds and echoing memes off each other

NHS being the hyper-upper of WWX's gender nonconformity and self-expression outside of toxic household

WWX lofting their bed up to the highest level and putting a hammock under it and smuggles younger brother JWY in for an overnight whenever he needs it

WWX teaching NHS basic life skills because while NMJ did his best to take care of him that really just translated as he wasn't allowed do any chores

NHS going to a LGBTQ+ student mixer and seeing all the queer staff and queer students and ends up crying in the corner rather than making friends because one of the staff members is a drag queen, WWX wanted to attend but was afraid of someone recognizing them and ratting them out to their parents and their college funding taken away so stayed in the dorm and played Minecraft

NHS was given a treasured knife of NMJ's as a going-away gift, and promptly gave it to WWX who left their collection of knives at home on the third day when they both had to piss but there had just been a really loud argument and pounding sounds at the end of the hall

Someone has a boyfriend who likes to eat and keeps both of their time-blind ADHD asses fed, though for the sake of this AU NHS might be the one who likes to eat and drags WWX out of bed and across the street to the dining hall

every time I think about yunmeng bros orpheus and eurydice au I lose my fucking mind

because Jiang Cheng keeps the blindfold on. he keeps it on. he believes. even when he hates Wei Wuxian, or is trying to hate him, even after Wei Wuxian has (he thinks) (and sometimes accurately) failed him over and over, even after Wei Wuxian couldn’t control it, Jiang still believes Wei Wuxian was capable of the miracle of his golden core, that Wei Wuxian wasn’t really dead, that Wei Wuxian could do anything, and if he abandoned Jiang Cheng it was because he chose to, not because he tried to fix things and failed

this deep, primal, childhood-rooted trust betrayed by so many lies and so little malice that is one of the lynchpins of the inexorable tragedy in one story would be escape and salvation from otherwise inexorable tragedy in the other

and I know he probably wouldn’t even get the chance because WWX is the protagonist and WWX is the musician and WWX absolutely would look back because the shape of his insecurities and he just does not have that same kind of trust in JC - WWX is the older brother, the genius, he has to fix it himself, he can’t trust JC, JC can’t handle it 

but JC - I mean. he has his insecurities. he would be tempted. GOD he would be tempted - why would WWX CHOOSE to follow HIM. but. but. he would believe wwx could do the impossible and walk out of hell behind him. if the task duty demanded of him was to just - trust. and keep walking.

he trusts wei wuxian so, so much. beyond sense and sanity until both of his siblings commit suicide in front of him, and then, somehow, with chenqing and JIN LING’S WELFARE and beyond, he trusts him. and if there is ONE thing jiang cheng can always do, it’s be surrounded by death and just. keep. walking.

if he had been set this other task, from this other world -

JC would walk out of the burial mounds with WWX behind him and not look back.
